No, its not a MIA thread :D

I know we're a pretty diverse bunch here, but I'd like to know exactly how many countries are represented in the 100lb. club and since I'm always on the lookout for a new travel destination, a little bit about your "home".

Since I'm in a demographic state of mind, I might follow this up with a poll of our ages...or perhaps the number of times you have sex in a month!

Wheee, Canada is in the lead! ;)

I'm a proud Canadian (British born) from Ontario. I live in a great town on the shores of Lake Ontario about 1/2hr. (by commuter train, about 2hrs. by rush-hour traffic) from downtown Toronto, which boasts the CN Tower (tallest freestanding structure in the world), Casa Loma, The Royal Ontario Museum and Art Gallery of Ontario, beautiful High Park, Skydome, Air Canada Centre, the Maple Leafs (hockey), Blue Jays (baseball) and Argonauts (football). Toronto is a clean and friendly city with a great transit system, lots of attractions (the Canadian National Exhibition is the largest of its type in the world) and offers trendy nightlife spots along with family excursions such as a ferryboat ride to "the Islands" for a picnic and amusement rides.

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!

Ach! I consider myself from Australia and England, what's a girl to do, so I put Australia, but I feel more English now, in some ways.

I was born in Hobart, Tasmania, and spent most of my adult life in Launceston, Tasmania until I moved to England at the age of 30. I love it here, and have a great life here despite everything being more expensive, and missing my family.

I've always lived in the US and haven't even had the opportunity to visit any other countries. I would LOVE to travel--even just further west within the US! I was born and raised in Connecticut, went to college in southern Pennsylvania for 3.5 years, lived with my sister in Virginia Beach for a year, and now I live in Northern Virginia (DC area) and have been here since early November. Of course, DC has plenty to offer: historical landmarks, national monuments, museums up the wazoo, the Smithsonian--including the National Zoo, plenty of clubs and bars, the Nationals (baseball--yes, I know, they were originally from Canada, but they're doing much better here! ;) ), etc. Of course, it is also one of the WORST places in America as far as traffic goes, so we don't venture into the city too often (I live outside of the city, and it can take me 1.5 hours to get to work from my apartment if I go in for a normal time--and it's only 12 miles! That's why I work at 6am :p ). As you can see, though, I'm an East Coast Kid, but I'll hopefully get to see a little more of the world as I get older and time and money allow :)

Born and raised in Toronto Canada (the best city in the world!!) I now live in Green Bay, WI - who have the, hands down, best football fans ANYWHERE. These people are insane!! Until you visit you would not believe it. They live and breath football here! Everything changes to work around our football schedule. (last year that included church services for the town)
Green Bay is a 2 hour drive north of Milwaukee and has a population of only 102,000.

Born in West Virginia... That's right, and I have all my teeth too! lol I've actually lived in Pennsylvania all of my life 1-23 in the most western part and from 23 to present, I'm in Central/Eastern PA. I love it here! I'll ALWAYS be a Pittsburgh sports fan-- no matter where I live! I like these "geting to know you" threads. Great idea Jill! :)

I'm trying to think of other interesting things about PA-- Philly has some cool things to look at and the night life is pretty ripe here. Other than that, I like living in a country setting away from the hustle and bustle. Oh and I see tons of horse and buggies around. We have some of the BEST home cooking and produce around! I guess we have all types here, a melting pot if you will!

How fun.

I'm another Canuck and live about the same distance from Toronto as Jillegal but I'm to the south west. I live in Hamilton, Ontario. It is a nice city, it has a lot of the ammenties of a large city like TO but the traffics isn't as bad! We have a football team, AHL hockey team, lots of cultural things (museums etc) and a royal botanical garden which is pretty spectatular.

Born and still living in Montreal, Canada ( i will not start a political debate here, but in my heart i feel more Québécois) Happy Canada day for those who feel more canadian;)

Montreal is a city where you can feel European and American at the same time, due to our French roots. It is a big city of course, but with lots of green space, parks.....Similar to NYC, Montreal has very distinctive neighborhoods. Plateau Mont-Royal, where i live, was compared a lots of times to Greenwich village. We also have a "chinatown" little Italy, and the old Montreal really makes you feel like you were in an old European city.

The odd side of Montreal however, is circulating in the city. Pavement is in very poor conditions, and montrealers are quite "European" in their driving habits, meaning, foot to the floor!

Wow! How cool is this! I'm in Texas. I've lived here all my life except for my first 5 years of marriage I lived in Alabama. I've never even been out of the south, much less visited any other countries. I's love to though. I have a big dream to visit New York and California someday. I've always wanted to see the John Wayne footprints that Lucy and Ethel stole that time! I love seeing where everyone is from and hearing about those places. It makes me dream!

I'm from Canada as well! I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and my family moved out to BC when I was 14. We were living in the interior, in a tiny town called Nelson. I moved out to the Lower mainland for college and stayed... and now I live in Coquitlam. The lower mainland is split up into a bunch of "smaller" cities, Vancouver itself is pretty small area-wise.

Anywho, this is a fun thread! Thanks Jill!!

Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, just a hop, skip, and jump from Vancouver, B.C. Actually, now with the border crossing and all the traffic, it's more like a three-hour drive. When I was a teen, we'd drive there all the time. Moved to Oregon, to the town I live in now, to go to college, then to Colorado, almost a decade in **** on Earth, oh, I mean Boise, Idaho, back to Seattle, and now finally back to Oregon. Married an easterner, though, who still says "farest" for "forest" and "harrible" for "horrible."

I was born and raised in Ohio ~ Mantua ~ little town between Cleveland and Akron. Then got married and moved to Maine ~ another small town ~ Skowhegan ~ lived there for 20 years. (That wasn't too far from Canadian border ~ DH loved Quebec City so we went there many times.) Then DH had a job change and we ended up in Kansas City, Missouri. Then DH had a job transfer and here we are in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Okay, I'm from the NE of England but I moved to Edmonton, Alberta three years ago when I married hubby. Before I came here I worked all over the country, but I always felt the pull back to my beloved North Yorkshire with its moors and coastline and good beer! :)

Edmonton is the best city I've ever lived in, and at the risk of starting an argument, :p it's the nicest of all those I've been to in Canada. It's the sunniest city in the country and has more natural urban parkland than any other city in North America. I love the green spaces and open feel of the place. For those who like retail therapy, we have the biggest shopping mall in the world. That's not my cup of tea though, and I'm pleased I don't live on its doorstep, but hey, it's there if I ever change my mind! :D

Edmonton is also known as "Festival City"--there's something for everyone, from The Fringe (my favourite when I can take the crowds) to Heritage (yummy food! :hun: ) to Street Performers and more.... :blah:

Then there's the fantastic Northern Lights, Fort Edmonton Park, The Muttart, and all manner of museums and galleries, not to mention the cheap cost of living.

No, I don't regret moving here at all. I should get a job with the tourist board!

Born in Wisconsin (U.S.A.) and have lived here all my life. I AM NOT a Packer fan!!!!! Lived in a small town named Loyal, WI until age 12 then moved further north to Park Falls, WI which is just 55 miles or so south of Lake Superior. I consider Park Falls my home town and would love to move back there someday, but DH won't consider it.
Currently living in Baraboo, WI which is the home of Circus World Museum and only a few miles away from Wisconsin Dells, the Water Park Capital of the World and home to three outdoor waterparks and 2 indoor waterparks that are open to the public. Most of the hotels, motels and resorts in the Dells now have some kind of water feature. I work at one of what seems like 1000 restaurants in Wis Dells.
This is a neat thread, cool to learn more about everyone. :)

I was raised in Union City, CA (Bay Area) and moved to a rural town in Arkansas just before high school. Talk about culture clash! It was like two different worlds. My 8th. grade class in CA alone had more students than the whole high school I attended in AR. The thing I miss most though (besides my mom, of course) is the weather. Where I grew up the houses weren't even built with air conditioning, didn't need it. Here it is just sweltering 5-6 months out of the year, bleh!

Born, raised and still live on the east coast Vancouver Island, BC. Canada. Was born in Nanaimo, Lived my whole life in Nanoose Bay in the same house...till I was 17...moved in with boyfriend/now hubby and have lived in the Parksville/Qualicum area for the last 10 years. All these places are withing a 20 minute drive...so basically all the same area.

I can't imagine living anywhere else...I think the coastal rain forest and ocean air get into your blood and I feel I might die of with-drawl if I ever left

Attractions: Never ending. The beautiful city of Victoria, BC (our province's capitol) 1.5 hour drive from here. The world famous and treacherous West Coast Trail. Incredible rugged west coast beaches. Here, on the East Coat of the island, we have the amazing Parksville and Rathtrevor beaches....miles of almost white sand..many resorts...the International Sandcastle Competition. Many, many local artists and farmers markets, selling everything from flowers to pottery, to organic everything.
Waterfalls...hiking trails...the best Salmon fishing on earth (Port Alberni, Campbell river...both near here) There's the Coombs Country Market (with the goats on the roof), butterfly world (a botanical garden with tons of butterflies). There's Cathedral Grove...with towering old growth forest...gigantic ancient trees.
And, of course, there are many small Islands a ferry hop away..and Vancouver is just 1.5 hours on the ferry...or 2, depending on where you travel from on the Island.

GEEZ...I could go on forever.
Jilly, I HIGHLY suggest you come and check it out!

Only one problem...it IS a temperate rainforest...and yes, if it's not summer..it rains a LOT. Seattle-ites will know where I'm coming from :)
Sometimes people moving here from the prairies or other very sunny places will suffer from S.A.D (seasonal affective disorder) if they don't get out enough.
However, if you're born here, or visit from May-Oct...gorgeous.

Love my home....can ya tell???
And love this thread too....it's so nice to here more about everyone!!!

Oh, and Linda, I've been to beautiful BC several times and absolutely love Victoria! In fact I love both the coasts (driving the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island was a superlative adventure). Yep, its a beautiful country we live in! :smug:

Hi Ladies

I thought I would bump up the Australian contingent.

I am new but have been watching the threads over the last few days and would love to become part of this one.

Anyway, in Australia - Perth to be exact. Lived in West Aust all my life but I migrated the 2000kms south to Perth about 6 years ago. I was born and raised in a small mining town north of Perth. Was a small town gal, but am definately a city gal now.

Love reading your stories - keep up the good work :)

I live in Seattle and I consider it my home - I LOVE it here! I never ever want to move. In fact, DH just asked me if there was anywhere else I would like to live and I said, "YOU CRAZY?!"

I was born in Southern California then lived until I was 7 in Memphis, TN before moving back to the central valley of California. Ugh, I HATED it there. Graduated from college in Fresno, CA and, after a visit to Seattle, I said, "I'm moving there!" My parents said, "Okay, we will too!" I lived here for 5 years before meeting my DH. We married and he was transferred to San Fran (Coast Guard) where we lived for 3 years - nice place to visit but I hated living there. He retired from the CG in 2002 and we moved back here to Seattle and this is where I intend to STAY! :D

There are tons - TONS of things to do in Seattle. You have Pike's Place Fish Market (want to see a fish thrown?!), Space Needle, waterfront of Puget Sound, ferries going all kinds of beautiful places (including the San Juan Islands, Vancouver BC and Victoria BC). The mountains are an hour away and the ocean is 3 hours. Beautiful hiking and gorgeous city scapes. I'm forgetting tons of stuff to do... The climate here is mild for the most part (though you do have to like the rain! :lol) - we don't even have air conditioning!

Okay, who wants to visit? :D

Hi every one,

I'm new here and when I saw this thread I just HAD to post! I am American (from Florida orginaly) But Portugal is where I call home. My husband is Portuguese and I moved here to live with him. I have been here about 2 years and plan on staying the rest of my life. I really love the European way of life and when I came back to the states for vacation everything seemed so strange to me. I am 24 and have been married for 1 year (almost not until September 6th)

If any one wants to see Europe Portugal is one of the cheapest and best ways, we are less then 3 hours from Spain and less then 6 hours from France and about a days drive is Belguim, Netherlands, Italy, Austria and Germany.

I was born and raised in Kent, the garden of England (supposedly), but Sidcup was a rather dull commuter suburb and not much else.

I moved to Sheffield in the North of England in 1992 - did a 4 year course at University and never left. Don't really know what to say about Sheffield - the people are very friendly and it's quite cosmopolitan which I guess is why I'm still here. We also have the beautiful Peak District very close by. I also like Sheffield because it is very safe - I've lived here for 13 years and have never had any trouble whatsoever. Sheffield is quite a nice place to live really!

Laura - Me! me!

Born is Petoskey, Michigan. Raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and moved to Southern California 4 years ago (San Diego to be exact). San Diego is pretty cool - very mild, little rain, ocean, mexico 15 minutes away and no real earthquakes (I've not felt a single one since moving here - much to my dismay!). However, it does lack cynical wit and sarcasm. Southern Californians are so darn earnest, it drives a girl like me CRAZY. We're looking for places to move in the next few years. On our list is Los Angeles (school), New York (school), Portland (beer) and Boston (dance).

My father was in the air force so we moved about every three years or so. Born in Sacramento, California and moved to Japan when I was two weeks old. Lived in Mass., England, Michigan, England. Graduated from an American school in England and came back to California. I have been here now for 20 years. Would love to go back to England to visit one of these days. My parents loved it so much that my dad served there twice.

Anyway I love most of the things about California but would love to find a small town to eventually settle down in. The commute on the freeways here are not, not something to love.

Born and raised.. Parma, Ohio.. (suburb of Cleveland, Ohio) Moved into Cleveland after 21 years of the 'burb's. Can't wait to move. hopefully within the next 3-5 years. I want to head to Washington State.

Cleveland is a fun place to visit.. we have the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame, the Indians, Browns, Cavs, Barons. A very nice theatre district. The Flats (basically a city of bars and clubs on the river). We have museums and orchestra and a bunch of artsy fartsy stuff. :)

But don't move here... Poverty Capital of the Country. Our Local, State and Federal Government is running this city into the ground. (hopping off my soap box)

But come visit.. we could use the Tourist money!

I was born and raised (in a commune) in downtown Manhattan (NYC) in a neighborhood called Chelsea, if you're familiar with New York. When I was almost 10, I went to live with a family in southwest Florida, and spent half of every month in NYC and the other half back in Florida. (I had to have monthly operations back in NY.) We also spent about 6 months in Otis, Massachusetts -- near Jacobs Pillow, in the Berkshires.

When I was 18, I just started to travel. (I'd already been supporting myself and living alone for over a year.) I'd visited a few countries as a child, and had grown up living with people from all over the world, so I just couldn't imagine living my whole life in one place. I went on to live in Richmond, Virginia; Captiva Island/Sanibel, Florida; Florence, Italy; Baltimore, Maryland; Srinagar (in Kashmir,) India; Perugia, Italy; Virginia (in County Cavan,) Ireland; San Francisco, California; Seattle, Washington; and Montgomery Village (a DC suburb,) Maryland. I lived in a few of those places more than once, but I thought I'd spare you the torture of reading all of them in consecutive order.

I'm now in Baltimore, and am anticipating a move to Central Pennsylvania probably next year because my partner works around the area, and our dollars buy us a lot more house there than in the Baltimore area. I just need to make sure I have easy access to a city -- I NEED TO BE NEAR A CITY!!!!

England. I was brought up near Stratford til I was 16, then moved north where I've been ever since (West/North Yorkshire and Manchester). Apart from a 4 month spell on a university exchange to North Carolina.

Where I want to live is the Canaries. My parents and sister live out there and it's such a lovely way of life, going down to the beach to swim after work, a nice climate all year round etc. I try to get out there to visit as often as possible. My uncle lives in Oregon, but I've not been able to get over to see him for years, I really must do it at some point.

We travel. Of my generation and my parents generation there's only one uncle that hasn't lived abroad at some point, and only me and him that don't at the moment. Of course, it helps that I have a small family...
