OK folks, day one and I did just over 30 minutes of power-walking! I tried to jog a little, but after like 1 minute I was almost dead so I slowed it back down...have to work up to that jogging...LOL.

How did everyone else do?

I did about 30 minutes of walking, broke up into 10 minute spurts because of the dog.

I didn't read your thread until this am. Can I start today Christy? Yesterday I was busy all day and didn't intentionally exercise. I was walking one hour a day for 2 months but I burnt myself out. Now really doing atleast 30 min of either gazelling or walking almost every day. If I can start today I will post later when I get busy and Move My Body! How about if I do one hour today to make up for not yesterday? Cindi

So far not so good. I already have a deficit of 60 min. for today and yesterday. I have every intention of making it up asap, even intending to put air in my bicycle tires tomorrow. I'm still in, just a little slow on the uptake.

This kind on the other hand is an exercise machine...Have you ever seen that loud mouth tony little on tv. You kind of glide..totally no impact. Good for my crunchy knees. Check out this link. http://www.homefitnessclub.com/jump.jsp?itemID=4074&itemType=PRODUCT&path=722,725&iProductID=4074

I Love mine. It's how I first began to ditch my couch potatoeness(not a word I am sure). But it's easy on the body. Now I need to get busy and do it. Right Now. Cindi

Very funny, Flower. Is it a sort of elliptical trainer? (I've never used one, but it looks like the same idea.)

Your choice of "Flower Power" gave your vintage away - I checked your profile, and realized I'm one year minus 2 days older than you. Groovy!

Far Out and totally cosmic my dear. We are aging like fine wines right Carla!!! So you graduated in 67? Gawd that makes us sound ancient, but with all of this great exercise we are getting younger every day.
It's not like an elliptical its more like a curved nordic track or ski machine.
Bye for now fellow oldie but goodie.
Forgot to mention my 31 min on my "gazelle" for 2 miles tonight. Cindi

I'm back on track: last night 22 min on the rebounder and a 40 minute walk, which covers Fri and yesterday. And this morning I took advantage of the cooler weather by waking up early and going out for a jog/walk. I'm determined to overcome my bad feet and get back to real running. This morning I alternated 100 paces fast walk, 100 paces very, very slow lumbering jog. But I covered 4 k doing it, and even iced my feet when I got home!

Time for coffee! :coffee2:

Hey folks! Sorry it took me so long to get back on! Between Friday and Yesterday I did 6 hours of house cleaning (scary huh??) so I'm counting that for those two days...planning to go to the track tonight. Looks like everyone's doing great--3 days down!!! :)

I got out an old Tae Bo tape by Billy Blanks..it's his first one that is instructional but it has squats and punches..and I hung in there for 22 min..Making my grand exercise total today 57 min..Good grief..I am also reading Body for life for women. It's a pretty good book so far.. This is a totally health oriented day and I am even eating the way this type 2 diabetic should and I feel GREAT...Cindi

dakotamidnight
07-05-2005, 12:51 AM
well....I'm unfortuantely forced to drop out of the challenge.

My back {I have severe scoliosis} slipped, and I can barely move. Won't be able to exercise much for at least 3 weeks, and really shouldn't until I get in to see the specialist again for it.

TheNewChristy
07-05-2005, 08:15 AM
Oh no, that stinks!! I know you must be in a lot of pain. :( That's OK, maybe well do it again next month and you'll be able to join. :)

I didn't get to go to the track Sun night b/c hubby didn't get home in time, but yesterday I spent over an hour swimming at the lake, plus I did some walking around the camp ground so I got to make up for it. I'm thinking of doing tae-bo tonight, but it's been so long I'm afraid I'll kill myself...LOL. Oh yeah, lost another pound this week--woo hoo!!

Talk to y'all later! :)

20 Min on my gazelle and only 10 min on my regular bicycle. My legs are just shaking. I was on it about 10 min last summer too...so I am sure out of practice. Haven't really riden since I was a kid. And that was a VERY LONG TIME AGO. Have good evenings all. CIndi

Cindi - congrats on getting out on your real bike! I did too, managed 30 minutes. But I went to spinning classes thru much of the winter - until I fell xcountry skiing and hurt my tailbone. It still hurts sometimes, like right now after my little ride. Don't worry about being shaky, it's amazing how quick the learning curve is on bike riding. And your legs should be pretty strong from the gazelle.

Not too many reports tonight - are we the only ones exercising?

Good Morning Carla...Maybe everyone is recovering from the 4th. My legs should be really strong if not from the gazelle from carrying around all of this weight all of these years. But the muscles that I use for biking must be different...they felt like they were going to go out from under me. My son goes down to our local gym everyday for 1.5 am and 1.5 hours pm. I just asked him about it. He says the muscles that you use to walk are in your calves..the muscles that you use to bike are the ones that run down the front of your thighs (the quadriceps). Mine must be on STRIKE! Time will make this better for me I know. I'll just add alittle time each day. Have a good day. Cindi

TheNewChristy

I feel you guys on the bike riding--I used to take 12-mile bike rides but now I don't know if I could get 12 feet. Plus, it REALLY makes my rear hurt, and I even have one of those big squishy seats!! Didn't get to exercise last night b/c hubby came home too late and I'm not sure how tonight's going to go because we're under a flood watch so I can't exercise outside and hubby is supposed to get home late again--maybe my son will take a late nap and I'll be able to get some exercise inside with a video or something...otherwise I'll be due for an hour and a half tomorrow!! :dizzy: You guys are doing great--keep going!! :)

Flower Power
07-06-2005, 10:12 AM
I have the same problem with my bottom Christy..and I even have an extra big squishy one too...But maybe I will get callouses Ho Ho! Have a good day and I hope you don't get any floods...UGH! I used to live in Atlanta..it sure is wet there..But everything is sooooooo green and beautiful. CIndi

carla49
07-06-2005, 10:22 AM
Cindy and Christy - if you just stick it out for a week or so (the biking, not your behind) it won't hurt to ride. At least not too much. Padded biking shorts help a little, but mine are all too small. I used to use a squishy seat cover, but it's old and a little too gross. I do have one of those seats designed for women, so at least my naughty bits don't take a beating.

Not an impressive effort: a very leisurely walk for 30 min. And I think I get credit for the 20-odd minutes it took me to install a new blind, if you take the amount of sweat generated as an indicator.

No bike today - I hope my poor butt will have recovered enough by tomorrow to go for another ride.

You made me giggle this am! I love gwtw. I used to live in Atlanta. Talk about nuts about the movie everyone is. I moved to nebraska and in my garage I found a brick with a plaque on it engraved that says from the theatre the movie premiered in. From when they tore it down. Lowe's Grand theatre...Funny huh? It's along way from Atlanta to a tiny town in Nebraska. Have a good day. Cindi

Might not get to 30 min of intentional exercise today but does 2 hours of cleaning and sorting our spare room that turned into a junk room count. I would think so. If I do hop on the bike or the gazelle I will report later. Have good evenings ladies....Cindi

Another good bike ride today - a little over an hour. And the sore backside is subsiding gradually.

A gentle 30+ minute walk in the miserable, soupy heat. Extra points for sweating like a pig? :hot: Also a fair amount of humping luggage back and forth to the airport, in the airport, back from the airport... I did at least 30 min walking. Wanted to rent a bike but was told that there are NO bikes for rent in all of Saint John! I haven't checked out the hotel gym yet, but the pool is out as it is tiny and on the other side of a huge window from a busy corridor full of people working at the same conference as me. I'm hoping for a rowing machine...

A pretty slothful day - slept in, worked thru the afternoon, and then went to enjoy the 5 to 7pm appetizers thoughtfully provided by the hotel. It was not a pretty sight. Then watched two movies with a colleague, and finally to my room to play with the laptop, read, wash out the undies... So what's missing? You guessed it: I not only didn't exercise at all, I didn't even leave the hotel.

The good news (for me) is that my feet don't hurt too much, so I should be able to at least walk tomorrow. The gym has no rowing machine, but there is an elliptical which I've never tried.

I think for the duration of this trip I'll just try not to get too carried away with feeling bad about not doing what I should. What happens, happens, and once I'm home I can get right back on track

Good night, sleep tight,
Carla

Welcome to 3FC, I think you'll enjoy it. I'm not on LAWL, so can't help you, but there is a whole section of threads on it. I know I've always resented any weight loss plan that wanted me to buy lots of $$$$ food, but it can help to have someone else do the thinking and measuring for you.

Cindi, it's great to see you back! Tomorrow's a new start, and who cares what you did on your trip? I'm sure you'll be gazelling again soon. By the way, does the gazelle take up less space than an elliptical and/or does it fold up? I've used the elliptical in my hotel a couple of times, and don't hate it...

So today was 35 min on the elliptical. I was aiming for 30, but the machine made me do a 5 min cool down as well...

Tomorrow may be a wash: I'm working in the am, hanging at the airport in the afternoon, and flying home until late. Maybe if I can drag myself out of bed early...

Our thread seems to be losing quite abit of spunk! It's summer though and we are all busy. I have been on vacation and now my sis is here with me for about 9 days. I am sooooo loving it and having much fun but she is 76 and though she walks in Missouri at a hospital sponsored health center it has been way to hot here in Ne to walk (100-107). But I did squeeze some time on the gazelle tonight. Only 10 min. though my ankles seem to have forgotten and they are getting sore..tomorrow I will increase until I get back to my 30-45 min a day. Glad to see you back, Cindi! I have to admit I don't always get in my 30 min. And I don't know why. That may improve as I just adopted 2 cats, and they think I should get up early to feed them, and then I have to clean up the litter tracked everywhere, which involves lots of squats and lunges...
