Support Groups - Please Join me for A Week At A Time Challenge
06-29-2005, 09:06 PM
I loved this thread from a while back. It appears it no longer exists so I am willing to start it up again. The object is to take on a challenge related to your weight loss goals for 7 days straight. Choose whatever inspires you - a certain amount of water intake, no sugar, 30 minute walks, etc.
I will award accolades for each day you maintain your goal(s) and 7 day winner awards and pounds down at the end of the week on Sunday. We will begin each challenge on Monday - you can choose a new challenge or repeat any challenge for extra mileage.
We will support each other keeping in mind to stay focussed on the challenges of the day and week related to our weight loss. There are plenty of threads where a lot of time is spent on personal stories, so I would like to keep that to a minimum.
So join in if this sounds like something you would like to try.
My challenge for this week is 64 oz of water and staying within my WW daily points for 7 days! :goodluck:

It's midnight and kudos to me for reaching my first days goals! :cb:
1. 27 of 28 WW daily points used :cp:
2. 64 oz of water down the hatch :cp:
Bonus 30 minutes of Richard Simmons Disco Sweat completed this a.m. :flow1:
Looking forward to more of you to join me!

I would love to join you. My personal goals will be to drink 60 oz of water and exercise on my elliptical for at least 20 minutes.
06-29-2005, 11:22 PM
Count me in :D . My goals are to get some kind of exercise every day, and to eat no sugary anything. And to learn how to put in a second tracker for short term goal.
06-30-2005, 02:21 AM
I'm in....my goal this week is to exercise for 6 minutes on my elliptical everyday, increasing the time as my fitness level improves and allows me to.

Welcome princess. carla49, and squiggly! Your goals are awesome and totally achievable. Please let us know when you are challenged so we can help you get over the hump. Also let us know at the end of the day or by the next a.m. what goals you met so I can award your kudos.
Thank you for taking on the challenge! I know this will be a great source of support, inspiration and accountability for us all. :grouphug:
Go forth and live for each moment :cheer: You can do this taking it one moment, one day, one week at time!
Have a great day.

Great idea MsCat! I was just thinking about this thread and how I could use another short challenge! My 7 day goal is to not eat too much. That is to stop eating when full, not stuffed. So no going over on even one meal...
I'll count today as day one because I've only eaten breakfast so far and didn't eat too much. This should be a tough challenge with the holiday weekend!
Good luck everyone.
I'm in. I actually started something similar for myself. Starting this past Sunday my goals were to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner (Healthy) with no snacking, and to drink some water every day. No specific amount. Just some water, to get into the routine. So far, I've accomplished it every day. Just haven't had today's water yet.

Welcome to our newest members skinnyjeans and Doss! :cheer:
Well ladies, we are in the home stretch - stay strong as we travel home and prepare our evening meals.
So far I am on track - I have about 20 points still left on WW plan and I have 32 oz of H2O in - working on the next 16 oz before I leave work today. I had a weight loss this a.m. but I am trying to resist being a scale addict :goodscale We all know that jumping on and off the scale is not a true indication of weight loss. Our weight varies throughout the day for a multitude of reasons - some that are not related to our weight loss efforts. We also know that when you start on a new regimine the first few pounds you lose is excess water and natural purging from the change in intake. So I know not to get too excited about the initial loss. I am going to wait until Monday morning to weigh in again.
Off the soapbox - :goodluck: to you all and I know we are all looking forward to sharing our accomplishments!
Thank you for the welcome. :) I know the first few pounds is usually water weight, but it feels SO good to see that smaller number on the scale. ;)

Well, yesterday and today make 2 days meeting the challenge. Yesterday, 10 min rebounder and a 40 min walk, and today 20 min rebounder. (And maybe a walk later.) No sweets so far, although I have a ton of bing cherries in the kitchen and I'm not sure if they're cheating or not - they are very sweet, but it's natural fruit sugar. But if I eat enough of them they do tend to work themselves thru the system pretty quickly...
And I've already figured out how to add the short term goal ticker!

I met my goal for this day. Knowing that I committed to it with you ladies prompted me onto my elliptical early in the day. thanks!

On to Day 2. I am so glad I made it through yesterday. We went to a baseball game for work and there was food everywhere! I managed to not overeat although I didn't eat the healthiest food. I'll have to watch that. Just because I am not stuffing myself doesn't mean I get to eat bad.
Good luck over the Holiday weekend everyone. We can do it!
07-01-2005, 09:38 AM
I've done it for today! 10 minutes on my elliptical.
07-01-2005, 11:18 AM
We are doing so splendidly!!!
Here are the awards up to yesterday - a clap for each day this week of meeting your challenge! Let me know if I have missed you.

Help!! After 2 days meeting my goals, everything fell apart today. Had to leave for a 3-hour trip as soon as I got up, then spent the rest of the day and evening sheltering from the heat in my stepmother's house, which reeks of tobacco smoke. And no evening walk or anything: the 2 days on the rebounder really aggravated my foot problems, my right foot and sciatica are really not happy about the drive... Lots of excuses, but I know I could have done some pushups or stretches or something.
As for my no junk food goal, I actually did pretty well, apart from the scoop of Cool Whip on my fruit. But then there was a vile greasy spoon burger :cbg: about an hour ago. At least I'm not hungry anymore, and tomorrow is another day.
I still feel a tiny bit virtuous: I said no to wine three times (very hard for me), and didn't eat even one of the wafer cookies on the coffee table. And instead of the awful burger, I could have gone next door to my hotel to Tim Hortons  for donuts and coffee with a ton of cream and sugar, so...
So Canada Day has not been totally successful. But it could have been so much worse!
What I really need is to receive a lot of supportive :goodvibes!, and a whole lot of nice crisp veggies. Because as Scarlett said, tomorrow is another day.
07-02-2005, 12:28 AM
Carla - believe me - you're human! We all have setbacks and worse than what you experienced Friday. Last week I ate 3 Krispy Kreme donuts in one evening! Tomorrow is another day and you have the opportunity to triumph over temptation all over again. You did fantastic in the face of a very challenging situation. One scoop of cool whip is not evil or junk food - 3 scoops of cool whip is a different story.
As far as virtuous - consider there is no such thing as a tiny bit virtuous. ;) Forget the spoon burger because it has nothing to do with the resolve and tenacity it took to say no to the wine and the cookies! That is total virtuousity! :strong:
In parenting, in work and in life I stopped focusing on what was done wrong -its over and done with and it cannot be changed. Leave it where it belongs -in the past. Give up "shoulding" on youself. :) Instead I like to focus on what I did right because that affects my now and future, positively.
You did great and you will do great tomorrow! I know I will posting an award for you. :cheer:
07-02-2005, 01:36 PM
I did it! met my challenge. 10 minutes on the elliptical today.
07-02-2005, 07:57 PM
I know everyone is busy with the holiday but . . .
KUDOS TO PRINCESS!!!!!:cp:
Don't forget to check in on Sunday everyone so we can post the end of the week tallies. If you have lost any weight during the week let's hear about it so we can all cheer for you!
07-02-2005, 09:32 PM
Well, Mscat, thank you for the wise advice. I do have a tendency to look at my failings instead of my successes, and the last two days have actually been quite a success. I coped with two days travel and visiting my very difficult, annoying, chain smoking, opiniated stepmother. And while I didn't get my exercise in, my other goal was to eat nothing sugary, and I agree that a scoop of Dream Whip with its measly 50 calories is not really a transgression. So in retrospect, I've met the food half of my goal Fri and today.
My sore feet are feeling better, I have another 9 days before going back to work with all its temptations, and I see some good things in the weeks ahead.
Thanks to all for the support. :)

Well, I am feeling pretty proud of myself. After my post at 9:30, I realized I was making excuses again. So I did 2 x 11 minutes on the rebounder, went for a 30 min gentle walk with a friend, and then walked up the 114 steps from his appartment to mine. I feel like I've wiped out my Friday no-exercise blues. I am woman! I am strong! I can hardly wait to weigh in tomorrow!
07-03-2005, 01:21 PM
Carla - you are welcome - what an inspiration you are to us all. Keep it up!
I am going to wait until this evening to post kudos for the day and give everyone a chance to check in. Tomorrow a.m. based on what comes in by this evening we will see what everyone's totals are for the week and who lost pounds! I am excited for all of us as we finish our first week together. Have a great weekend!
07-03-2005, 01:46 PM
I didn't meet my challenges for last week but I did lose one pound. My challenge for next week is to drink 60 oz water and 20 on my elliptical. I know it's the same as last but seeing as I didn't accomplish my goals last week. I need to keep on this one as well.
07-03-2005, 11:59 PM
I take Sunday's off from exercise, but not from my food plan. So, I have no exercise to report for today. I would like to share what was a major success for me. I am in the middle of a 3 day extended family reunion. Today I spent 6 hours in the park surrounded by food, including very tempting junk food -- my favorite of which a generous soul happened to place right in front of me. I went un tempted. I ate before I went. I drank water and diet sodas during the afternoon. I kept my hands clean so that I could take some of my favorite thing, but did not. I was not among people with whom I felt completely free to be myself. No binges there and no binges after coming home.
07-04-2005, 12:05 AM
oops. I forgot to mention that my weight has remained the same.
For this coming week, my goals are:
to exercise on the elliptical 4 days for 12 minutes or better
to exercise at Curves 2 days (I'm skipping the two machines that exercise the glutes because the ellipitical does an excellant job of that and I do not want the glutes to get bigger!).
to listen to a weight reduction tape 2/day for 7 days and journal for 7 days
07-04-2005, 12:27 AM
I made my two goals today. I also went the whole day with no pop. Pop is a big problem for me.
07-04-2005, 12:30 AM
to princess for resolve in the face of temptation (Great goals for the coming week!):cp:
to carla for making her exercise goal:cp:
