Look at all our new toys. . I'll be back later. Karen L 06-04-2001, 10:45 AM Tried to get here last night but the site was down. Just wanted to tell you that my Mother is having her knee replaced to day. The doctors think she will get along just fine . She is 74. She should have had this done 3 or 4 years ago. Any way the doctor is expecting her to be walking with a cane with in a 2 week window. Had a great weekend. It was a little cool but at least it was not raining. Had little children helping me replant flowers yesterday. Will let you know if they live . Flowers not children. Peggy I am a red head . In my purse I carry my life . Credit card. Some money. Hair pick. Lipstick. Powder for a shinny nose. Eye brow pencil. Bandaids. IB'S . Imitrex. kleenx. Points finder. Organizer. Nametag. equal. a ton of keys. Small knife, you never know when you have to split a donut. Journal . 2 point bars I never leave the house with out at least 2 of them. Got to go Have a great day  Karen LilyG 06-04-2001, 10:54 AM Trudy The swiss army knife does come in handy. Those little scissors have saved me some times! Glad the concert was good. Karen I think we all need bigger purses! I forgot that I have my Journal in there to but its in the form of a Palm Pilot so it has all my WW goodies all in one. Hope your Moms surgery goes well. Sounds like she will be up and about soon tho. Keep us posted. Well best get to work. Or I will be here playing all day Lizziepie 06-04-2001, 11:31 AM Slavika: Thanks for the new thread. And my goodness what a lot of new toys to mess around with. Checking the time you posted, either you didn't sleep, or you were up very early! Thanks for fising the points on the cake recipe. I was close. Karen: I'm sure your Mom will do fine. I know that friends have told me it is a very painful surgery, but the results are well worth the pain. I've had to give up on the big purses, shoulders didn't appreciate all the weight. But I miss having eveything I need so handy. Are the 2pt. bars really good? Haven't tried them. Trudy: Did you make the cake? Hope it turned out okay. Hi to everyone. We are on the count-down now to our travels. Really beginning to think about what to take. We keep hearing that is is cold and rainy up north, so will have to take all those cold weather clothes. :( I hope I'll get to wear shorts now and again. We're looking forward to seeing all our family. Will 'see' you later. Ann Trudy 06-04-2001, 05:44 PM Looks like we are going to have fun with this new format. :D Slavika...Thanks for the new thread... you were sure up early today. Karen.. sure hope your Mom's knee surgery goes all right. My Mom should have had it done years ago, now she is 88 and her knees are bone on bone. Believe me, she is so sorry she didn't do it. So you are a feisty red head  Lily..Now that Palm Pilot must take up considerable room. I hear they are really a good thing to have. Ann.. I cut the recipe in 1/2 and put it in a 8x8 pan. Delicious. Thanks :) It's hard deciding exactly what to pack sometimes. I guess any place would seem cool to you after the Florida weather you are used to. I did go to work out this morning, and on the way home picked up a small box of pansies just to fill in some spaces. I sure do like planting, moving stuff and playing in the warm earth. I am making stew for supper, so I had better check on it... talk to you all later... painter5 06-04-2001, 07:31 PM Hi, Have to check out these new toys. It is still raining and cold. Yuck! Went to Summerfair at Coney Island yesterday. It is juried art show with artists from all over the country. Just looked. Today I went to Dayton with a friend and went to lunch. Was nice. Ended up at Costco. I love that Tillamook cheese. My regular purse has a flashlight and a tape measure, Advil, Kleenex, Many pens, nail file. Not as interesting as all of yours. My shoulder gets too sore. I printed the cake recipe. Sounds good. Ann my friend that has a winter place in Florida says that you aren't too too far South of her. If we go to visit next winter we will have to meet. I am tired. Talk tomorrow, Peggy flaggies 06-04-2001, 07:47 PM G'day all, What a lot of new toys! I was disappointed not to be able to 'talk' to you all yesterday but the new toys this morning have made up for it.:) It is a beautiful sunny day here today and I will go for a bit of a walk. Son is ok, finger is back in place and other than bad swelling etc. all is well but no golf or football for a while. I think it was Ann who asked about Australian rules football, it is nothing like soccer which by some is regarded as a bit of a sissy's game;) it is difficult to explain, quite different from American football as well other than it is rough and tough and very much a body contact sport. Not good to watch for some Mums! It never ends, daughter needs $1800 worth of repairs to her car before it can be re-registered. Because she is in a different state with different rules, this is the result. She called to see us last night and dh can reduce the labour costs substantially by doing quite a few of the bits and pieces himself. I think a car should definetly be roadworthy but the 'repairs' that are required are quite ridiculous. Anyway we will help out and hope all is well again. Thank you Trudy for your smiley hug avatar, I emailed it to my daughter this morning, she can do with a bit of a hug. She is in the middle of 'swat vac' as well but so far has done well in her exams.:) Karen good luck with your mum and her knee replacement. I have heard it is painful but very successful regardless of age. Trudy I just love pansies, they are so colourful and fill up bare spots in the garden nicely. I planted many bulbs before we went away, they should start flowering towards the end of this month and July, I hope I will see some of them:^: in flower. Also my camellias should be flowering soon, oh well hopefully we will be home in a month or so. Ann I bet your mind is working overtime, what to take on your trip. It is all part of the fun. I wonder what has happened to Glenda, I hope all is well with her I have finished the Anzac Page on my website and will upload it shortly. Got to get my priorities right, posting here is first  Have a great day all Hope I didn't go to crazy with the new toys, difficult to know until it is posted :dizzy: and yes my favourite colour is blue!!!!!! though I quite like pink as well!!!!!!! 'See' you all Maria slavika 06-04-2001, 09:55 PM  Hi Everybody Oh, I  all these new little things to click and color. Karen how did your Mom make out with her surgery today? I hope she's not in too much pain. Ann I had a dentist appointment today. I'm having a lot of work done and I guess when I woke up I just couldn't fall back to sleep for thinking about it. The appointment went sort of ok, but my teeth and jaw hurt now. :( Trudy I love your new avatar. Looking forward to seeing you at tea time tomorrow. :) Maria if you could see my home you would know that blue is my favorite color too. I also really like bright yellow, it's a cheerful color. I'm happy your son is doing ok. Too bad about missing out on the golf. Lily hi there. Are you still experiencing really hot weather. We had a really nice day today, just in the low seventies, but the sun was shinning. Glenda where are you? :?: We miss you. My dentist appointment wasn't until 1:00 so I walked on the treadmill, pulled weeds, washed floors, toilets, sinks, clothes and lastly myself. I was really busy today. After the dentist I went to the store, and ironed all the clothes I washed. I feel soooo righteous. :D :D Night all. Talk to you tomorrow. LilyG 06-04-2001, 10:35 PM ANN: I would take the shorts just in case. This weather is different and it could change! You are gonna have so much fun! What day do you leave? :smug: Trudy: The palm pilot really doesnt take up that much room. Its smaller than my huge wallet! I love it cause if Im somewhere and dont know something I can look it up. Comes in handy when I travel for things like that. Sides I like to play solitare! I love pansies! Peggy: Bet that summer fair was fun! I love to go to those things. We dont get to many here. But when I see them Im there! :dizzy: Always find neat stuff to buy at them. Maria: Cars are always expensive to fix it seems. You pay a fortune for them and then have to pay a fortune more to repair them. Doesnt seem right to me. :?: Cant wait to see the new photos! ;) Glad your son is doing ok. Slavika: No the weather has cooled down. ;) Its been quite windy lately so it has taken the temp. down. I like it this way and wish it would stay but it wont. ALAS. Have fun at your Tea party tomorrow! Glenda: where are you? Margot: Where are you to? Have a great night all! Love the new colors! Karen L 06-04-2001, 10:46 PM Just wanted to let you know that surgery went well. I went up to see her at supper time . She was still in a lot of pain when I got there. They were showing her how to give here self a shot of morphine throught the IV. Then they also gave here a shot in the fanny. By the time I left she was really out of it. I'll be going back to see her tomorrow afternoon after my first meeting. By the way she managed to stay alert to see her soaps.:dizzy: Ann the 2 point bars are really good . My favorite is the Fudgy Peanut  In some parts of the country they are pretty pricey:?: I have seen some in the supermarkets that are more reasonable. Time to get off. Have to do my poor nails after yesterday and the dirt they need attention.  Karen slavika 06-05-2001, 12:07 AM Karen Glad your Mother is ok after her surgery......:) cute she was alert enough to watch her soaps. LOL. Peggy What is "Tillamook Cheese"? This might be something I'll need to be on look out for. Night again. painter5 06-05-2001, 07:43 AM Good Morning, It is still raining - will it ever stop? Karen I am glad your Mom is doing o.k. As long as she can see her soaps she will be fine. Slavika when we were in Oregon last fall we went to Tillamook and visited the cheese factory and when I saw Tillamook cheese at Costco I was surprised. Have you ever had one of Costco's pies? Lily I should have guessed that you would have a palm pilot. My sil has a governement issued one. They are something else. Maria I can't wait to see your update. It is fun to go to exotic places through you. See you all later, Peggy;) Lizziepie 06-05-2001, 10:58 AM Good Morning: We actually had some rain last night. Sorry Peggy that you are getting inundated. We'd love it. Karen: glad your Mom is doing well. The 2pt. bars here are 3.00 per box. is that more than you pay? Lily: how are the fingernails? Trudy: Glad you liked the cake. Slavika: Is Costco a supermarket? I made your Tropicolada cake doubled and it was just as good. I didn't bring any back from the pot-luck.Maria: will be looking forwad to your update. Geri-Glenda- Where are you? We will be leaving on June10th and will only be able to check in now and then. My dd has a computer so she will help me. Also in Maine ds has a computer. When we get to our home town, I go to the library. I thought I was going to be able to use some of the new toys, but when I typed in the codes and posted, nothing came up but the code letters. So either I didn't do it right or I can't use them with webtv. I will try again. 'See you later' Ann flaggies 06-05-2001, 06:32 PM G'day all A rainy miserable day here today, perfect to sew together the cardigan I am still:( knitting for my dd. It is a stripey affair with 6 different colours, the knitters amongst us here can imagene how many threads I have to somehow work away:?: Trudy daughter loved the smiley that you posted yesterday and i in turn emailed to her. Things are working out for her. DH is so tough and initially said daughter and fiancee will have to work out the finances for their car themselves and that I was just far too soft. Well guess what, he didn't sleep all night and in the morning asked if I minded if we helped them out  Men :mad: !!!!! Ann not much longer to your trip, bet you are counting the days. I am sure the same would apply in the States, there are heaps of cyber cafe's everywhere so no excuse for not letting us know how your holiday is going ;) Web page has been updated and I hope you enjoy reading about Anzac Day. Have a fantastic day all as I sit here today trying to eliminate millions of threads from daughter's cardigan. See ya Maria LilyG 06-05-2001, 08:58 PM Karen: Glad your mom is ok! At least she was alert for the soaps! Thats important! How long will she be in the hospital? Peggy: AlAS Still more rain. Hope it stops soon. I does get old after a while. Ann: The 2 point bars here are 3.95. I do like the peanut fudge one. But dont buy them oftem. My fingernails are long. They have always grown like crazy. People think I have them done but they are real and all mine. I know nothing about web Tv so cant help you there! Maria: I like the update. Its great to get some history in there to! Loved the photos! Wow that was alot of people there to. Slavika: I would think they would have Tillamook cheese at your store. Maybe not tho. Its yummy! I always tape my soaps so I can watch them while I am on the threadmill. Keeps me from getting bored. :D Was a really long day so Im gonna get dinner ready and probably crash. Im pooped :( Have a great night! slavika 06-05-2001, 11:49 PM  Hi Everybody Did I miss something? Are we talking about fingernails? I might wear the most rings in this group but likely my nails are the worst in the group. They get a little better in the summer, fairly nice in Maui and just awlful during the winter. They just break off. I have bought all the "wonderful" things to put on my nails but they break anyway. :( Ann when you tried all the new little toys did you "submit" your post? We get the "code" stuff when we type up our reply but when we "submit" it, then everything is as it should be. :) Costco is a huge "warehouse" type store that carries all kinds of stuff, like groceries, (but in bigger sizes then the average grocery store). You might have to buy 8 cans of soup that are packaged together, or 5 lbs of bacon packaged together....things like that. Costco also carries things like computers, TV, VCR's lots of different things. If you know what a "Sam's Store" is......well it's like that. :dizzy: Soon it will be time to leave on your holidays. I enjoy the planning part of a holiday. Lily now you are talking about Tillamook Cheese. Is that a "brand name" or a kind of cheese, like cream cheese or cheddar? Maria how are you coming along with your DD's cardigan? I didn't go to WW today but Trudy and another friend came for tea time and we managed to talk away another afternoon. I was telling the gals, I have not seen Sammy for a few days nor the one I thought was his "friend". Yesterday I saw a small squirrel but that is it, so if Sammy has gone I may pack up the feeder. A friend told me that someone in her area is putting out poison and killing the squirrels. She has a very large piece of property and found 4 or 5 dead squirrels in a couple of days. :( I miss him. My grandson phoned this evening to tell me I can have the 2nd Harry Potter book as he is through with it. I tried to tell him I had other books to read, but he insisted I read this second one and assured me it was even BETTER then the first one. YIKES, what could I say.......ok. I'm really not too keen on reading it, but maybe I could just skim through it. :D Tomorrow I go out for lunch and shopping, so it will be another nice day for me. Hope you all have a good day too. Karen hope your Mom continues to do well. Night all. Karen L 06-06-2001, 07:26 AM Slavika I think you and I will have to have a contest for the worlds worst fingernails:( There was a time a few years ago that I did the false ones. Wound up with a nasty infection:mad:When I came home from Florida they were long and beautiful. Then every day life took over and now I have a mess again. I just file and polish and try to hide them as much as possible:lol: My Mom was still in a great deal of pain when I saw her yesterday:( I really don't like to see her like that . but have to keep telling my self that it will be for the best when she recovers and can get out and about again. I'ts been many years since she has enjoyed shopping because she was always in such pain. I have to get my self ready to go to work You guys have a Green Great day! Karen L 06-06-2001, 07:30 AM Tried to use the color thing. Didn't work and tried to edit . That didn't work either. :dizzy: painter5 06-06-2001, 07:44 AM Slavika I have tears in my eyes as I read about Sammy. I hope he is smart enough not to go in that persons yard and eat the poison. I hate, hate it when people do things like that. Slavika, Tillamook is a brand. We buy the sliced cheddar. I am going to start building my ark today. Supposedly today is to be the last of the rain but you know how those weathermen lie. I am taking my older ladyfriends out today. We are going to visit a Feng Shui shop, have lunch and then go to Jungle Jim's. That is a hug multicultural produce store with a jungle theme. It has a 10 tall ape dressed like Elvis and every 15 min he sings. All kinds of crazy things like that. It is starting to storm, Have to go, Peggy I have longer fingernails too. Am forever filing them. LilyG 06-06-2001, 10:54 AM Slavika: Its a brand name of cheese. You can check it out here: http://www.tillamookcheese.com/ Maybe you can see what it looks like and see if you have it. Its not low fat tho. I have never seen a low fat version in my store anyways. Oh NO!!!!!!!! I hope that posion didnt get Sammy! That person should be spoken to. How cruel! Im  !! Karen: Im sure it is hard seeing your Mom in pain. But she will be better in the long run. Am I the only one with good finger nails? Mine just grow and grow and are really strong. Always have been. But then Im the only one in the family like that. All the others have bad ones. I was just lucky I guess! :) Peggy: What kind of shop is the Feng Shui? :?: The Jungle Jim one sounds like a riot! I wanna go! Sorry everyone is having so much rain. Its beautiful here. Maybe you all need to move to Sunny CA! Lizziepie 06-06-2001, 09:24 PM Lily: I got myself confused, and was thinking that I had recommended Knox nutri-joint to you for helping joints and fingernails. Now I'm not sure who it was. Duh! Sounds like you never have needed anything special. I did, and that stuff has really worked wonders. I can actually have long fingernails and they don't break or peel, and I hope it is doing good things to my joints also. But it does taste terrible, unless you mix it with juice. Sorry for the confusion. You must have thought I had some nerve! Slavika: I surely hope Sammy is okay.I don't understand what motivates a person to do such things. Karen: Every day you will see improvement in your Mom. and she will be so happy when the ordeal is all over and she can walk without pain Hi everyone. 'See'you tomorrow. Ann LilyG 06-06-2001, 10:19 PM Ann: It didnt bother me at all that you asked. When I was younger I use to drink that Knox stuff to. It was pretty bad. Maybe thats why I have such good fingernails now! Tho I havent used the Knox for 4,000 years. At least 35 years! Trudy 06-06-2001, 10:20 PM It has been cloudy and threatening rain all day... but nothing... my garden and flowers could use a drink. I used to have nice nails until the dreaded menopause ... now they are very brittle. I have never heard of Tillamook cheese.. we probably can't get it here. I just opened a pack of "Fruits 'n Creme" hard candy sweetened with Sweet 'n low that I picked up in the USA. They are really good, I should have bought a couple more of them. My DH and I took a day trip today. I am so tired right now, I am heading off to bed. Have a great day tomorrow all....:yawn: slavika 06-06-2001, 11:39 PM  Hi Everybody I had a great day with my friend. I bought the Princess a cute pair of small checkered yellow shorts and a little halter top. I also bought a T-shirt that will match the shorts to change the look of the little outfit. Ann maybe someone on one of the other threads was asking about nail stuff. I was talking to my friend about the poor condition of my nails today, and she said, somebody told her to get, (I think it was called) Nail Tek. It comes in a couple of different formula's depending on what the problem is with your nails. You buy it in Beauty Salons. Peggy/Lily I have not seen any dead squirrels around my place so I am hoping that Sammy moved on to someplace else, or maybe I just am not catching him in his little hut. I didn't see him today either....just the little squirrel. :( If I do not see him by the end of this weekend I will put the little hut away. Karen I hope each time you go in to see your Mom you will see a little improvement. How long does she have to be in the hospital? Who will take care of her when she goes home? Lily thanks for the web site on the Tillamook Cheese. I should have thought of that, but ALAS I didn't. Next time I am at Costco I will check for the cheese. Excuse me LILY....4000 yrs ago, hmmmm and you gals thought I tended to exaggerate. BROTHER! Trudy you will not believe this, but our friend got the birthday cards that you and I sent to her already......geez overnight service I can't believe it. Night all. :) flaggies 06-07-2001, 01:55 AM G'day all, Windy, strange sort of day here, still quite warm considering it is supposedly winter. I had my haircut this morning. It is very hard having to change hairdressers all the time (I know there are worse problems in the world :D) All I will say about my haircut is that I probably won't need another for 6 months:dizzy: Karen sorry to hear your Mum is still in quite a bit of pain, I am sure it will be worth it in the end though. Slavika why would anyone want to poison squirrels??? Do they cause damage? In some parts of Australia we do have a big problem with bats as they strip the trees of just about everything. The 'greenies' are trying to protect the bats as the authorities are looking at ways to tackle the problem. We have a controlled cull of kangeroos, koalas and cockatoos but so far the bats have never been a problem until now. In North Queensland cane toads are a huge problem. They were an introduced species to control the bugs that got into the sugar cane, we still have the bugs and an even bigger problem now with cane toads. They are huge and quite ugly. DD cardigan is coming along well, with a bit of a concentrated effort I should finish the second sleeve sometime next week and hopefully the cardigan will be completed within a fortnight and then no more knitting! I think I have done enough knitting in my lifetime. I also like cross stitch and have a couple of unfinished projects that I would like to get on with. Tomorrow night we are going to watch the netball, not sure if it is in the States, I believe it is played in Canada. It is sort of similar to basketball, I personally prefer the netball. An ex- girlfriend of our son is in the Australian side and they are playing south Africa here in Melbourne. We have always remained good friends and she has organised for some tickets. I am really looking forward to it. Lily I am pleased you enjoyed reading a bit more about our history on my web page. Just as a matter of interest I tried the 'mother of the bride' outfit on and yippee, I have progressed to being able to breath in it and I can do up the button of the skirt!!!! :spin: It does amaze me though that once I get into this frame of mind sticking to the points is not that difficult, why oh why do I stray and it is then soo difficult to get back into it again:?: Have a great day all Cheers Maria painter5 06-07-2001, 10:27 AM Hi, Maria it sounds like your hair is a little on the short side. Hope it grows enough by the time the wedding comes. Don't you love it when you just want it trimmed and they whack it all off? I can tell you are excited to get the skirt zipped. That is a good feeling. I think we should all get together and get a manicure. I used to do the Knox thing. I forgot all about it. I managed to lose a pound this week. I am happy about that since I ate out so many times. If any of you have Panera Bread Co. around you they have really good lunches. We ate there yesterday. Karen I hope your mom is doing better. Bye for now, Peggy LilyG 06-07-2001, 11:07 AM Trudy: Hope you had fun on the day trip. DH and I are talking about taking one Sat. Just need to decide where we want to go. Slavika: I wouldnt take the little hut away. Maybe a new Sammy will come and move in. I just hope he isnt gone. I think its really sad someone would do that. 4000 years Somedays I feel that old! Maria: Those cane toads sound awful. I dont even like the little bitty Tree Toads we have here. When I work out in the yard they jump at me and scare me to death! Hooray!!! The dress is starting to fit better! Thats great news! Peggy: Good for you another pound gone! I have heard alot about Panera bread Co. But we dont have one here that I am aware of. Suppose to be really good. Later! slavika 06-07-2001, 04:39 PM  Hi Everybody Maria Hi there. Actually, squirrels do cause a bit of damage. Sammy is a grey squirrel, and although they might nibble at your garden, or bury nuts in your planters, they don't do too much in the way of real damage. Some people have had squirrels get into their attic's but that's usually the red squirrels (which we also have in this part of the courntry). A couple of weeks ago one of my neighbors said to me, "I know where your squirrel, buries the nuts you give him.....in "MY" yard. My DH was outside at the time too, and I said to him, "do you think she is mad or just making a comment"? We decided, she was kind of a nice lady and was just making a comment....but maybe she is too nice to say more. It's been my experience, that all animals bring a lot of joy and pleasure but also some things we would rather not deal with. We have to clean up after taking our dogs for walks, or clean out litter boxes with pet cats, even pet birds require cleaning up after. Wild animals are really not that much different. When I feed the birds, I have a real mess with the seeds, and the birds sitting on my fence and messing all over it.....but DH or I sweep up the seeds and hose down the fence and don't mind doing it because I like to see the birds in the yard. Sammy is like that too, I have really enjoyed having him come and visit my yard. He also makes a bit of a mess, with empty peanut shells all over the place, and I clean out his little hut every couple of days, and even clean his little carpet. I can't even count the number of hours of pleasure I have received from looking out my kitchen window at that silly little squirrel (so have my grandchildren). Remember the hot day we had last year and and I told you gals, I looked out the window and there was Sammy laying tummy down in my bird bath getting cooled off, and he stayed there a long time too. Sometimes he would lay on his blue carpet on top of hut and just sun himself like a lazy cat. Lily I really miss Sammy, but if he is gone, I will not continue putting food out. I know lots of people think little squirrels are no better then mice.....and maybe that's why someone is setting out poison. Talk to you all later. :) LilyG 06-07-2001, 06:05 PM    You made me cry. I know you have had so much pleasure from Sammy. Im sitting here crying . slavika 06-07-2001, 11:42 PM  Hi Everybody Ahh Lily , you are so sweet. You're right, Sammy brightened every day for me just by coming into my yard, I do get a lot of pleasure from seeing him. :) My DIL brought the Princess here so I could see her hair do. My DIL took her to the hair dresser and had her hair all put up with long curls hanging down and silver glitter clips in the hair. She also had makeup on. She was on her way to get her picture taken with her dance class. Her costume.............a itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini. The polka dots are round silver disks that my DIL had to sew onto the costume. It's adorable. A short while ago my DIL called, and said she had to explain to the little one the meaning of the the word "conceited". LOL :D Ahh poor Princess. :D The dance recital is tomorrow night at 7:00. I hope the hair do lasts. I'm off to bed, night all. vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
