It would depend on which kind you were eating. If you are eating a kind that contains a seafood and rice-then try to approximate the amount of each you are eating, and count it as proteins and starches. If you are eating a seafood and veggie sort of a thing you would count it as a protein and a veggie. There are lots of different varieties...so it would depend on what you were eating exactly.

I too LOVE sushi (but I think that's obvious)! LAWL told me to stay away from things like spicy tuna/crab/shrimp. This has a type of spicy mayo in it. Also stay away from really sweet types of sushi like eel roll. Most bars tend to put a sweet teriyaki sauce on their eel. And, of course, stay away from the shrimp/veggie tempura. Fried food not good. As for how many you should eat they just told me to "eyeball it".

My fav happens to be spicy tuna so when I'm in the mood I just make it at home using modified ingredients. That way I know how much of an ingredient I'm using. Of course, it doesn't taste as fantastic but it comes a close second.

Hope this helps.

If you wanted to go for the kind with the mayo in it, jut be sure to eat a small portion and count a "fat" as well.

hi aphil and iheartsushi....

thanks for the replies.

one of my favorites is eel roll so i will stay away from that type for awhile...
my other favorite is pretty standard the "california roll" which is mainly cooked crab, seaweed wrap, and rice ... i put ginger and wasabi and some low sodium soy sauce.... so i guess i could count it as:

P or PP , V (seaweed)?, S or SS

thanks ladies

I eat sushi every Friday. I absolutely adore it. My trick is to fill up on edamame first and then I don't overeat when my "real" sushi/sashimi comes. Hope that helps!

Are edamame a veg or a starch? They're fresh soybeans, right? I've had them in frozen veggie mixes and I love them.

edamame actually count as a protein. :) I LOVE them, but I think it may be an acquired taste. Several of my friends don't enjoy them much. LOL
