100 lb. Club - End of Summer Challenge - August 31, 2005

I dislike challenges that are only a few weeks long because I always set lofty goals and get disappointed when I can't achieve them. This challenge will take us through to the end of summer, Aug 31, which as of tomorrow (June 15) will be exactly 11 weeks away. I think summer is a good time to lose weight because the days are longer and warmer so there is more opportunity to get outside and get some exercise, there are tons of fresh fruits and veggies around even when you go to parties they are less likely to have "comfort" food in the middle of summer and have healthier choices. So my goal is to get into Onderland and it is a bit of a lofty goal I admit but I really want to push myself a bit this time and I think I can achieve it.

Anyone else wanting to join me? Let's have a very successful summer so that next summer we are all outside in shorts and bikinis and feeling great about how we look.

(technically I know the beginning of fall isn't til sometime in october i think but i think a lot of us see the end of summer as the end of august because the beginning of school is just around the corner, we could make it a Labour Day challenge instead it that sounds better!)

I'm with you! I've been enjoying the summer so far and plan to continue way into November (Oh yes, I am flaunting that Southern California weather!)

My goals:
- Walk to work 3 days a week (4.5 miles) until school starts
- Don't skip a single racewalking class (Sunday mornings at 7AM!)
- Don't skip breakfast.

Goal weight loss -
30 pounds (238) by August 31st.

Count me in! I hear you on the weather Jessica, here in sunny texas it'll be summer until at least november.

My goals:
- No skipping Meals
- Exercise everyday for at least 30 minutes
- Stay OP with WW without using flexpoints.

Goal Weight Loss:
27 lbs (199) by August 31st

Sure, why not--I'll go with 25 pounds, which makes my goal weight 270. I'll love to lose even more than that, but I think this is at least an achievable goal, so let's get losin'!

Other goals will include:
- drinking TONS of water! (way more than 8 servings a day)
- finding activities (other than eating and sleeping) to occupy my nights off during the week (home alone and bored is a BAD combination!)

We are all at about the same weight and we all want to make it to ONEderland. (I've set my own pesonal goal for Labor day though; so I get an extra week.) This is so excited. How much fun would it be to add THREE new names to the ONEderland list?

Make that four new names, Apryl! I have 26 pounds to banish to get there. I've been aiming for (and achieving :smug: ) 1 to 2 pounds off a week so this challenge is asking for a little more from me. But hey, it's supposed to be a challenge, right? :)

Eat 3 meals and 2 snacks each day so I'm eating about every 3-4 hours throughout the day.
Drink 80 oz water or more each day.
Exercise 1 hour per day Monday-Saturday taking Sunday off.

I have been in a summer mood today (although the weather is awful here, we are back to winter in June for goodness sake) and have walked alot as well as a workout in the gym. Summer is sooooooooo much easier, my berries for my morning oatmeal (it may be summer but I still need my oatmeal) are half the price they were in winter!!! So I can have twice as many of them (nooooooooooo that's not the point miss Kylie get with it girl!!!)

Count me in for 25 by August 31st. That puts me at my goal of 165. I haven't had much movement lately, Im stalled out at 189 - 190. I haven't gained, I haven't lost, I'm just frozen! So this is it, the big push to start my fall at goal. Then on to the next goal. Finding my soul mate! I wonder which will be harder? LOL!

I'll shoot for 265. I'm 289 right now. So 24 lbs by Aug 31st.

It's a beautiful spring day here. 75 and sunny. With a wonderful breeze. Only 6 more days until summer really starts. We are sitting out on the patio with our laptops and coffee. OH I DON"T WANT TO GO TO WORK. I wish I could be one of those people who just call off on a whim. I hate being an adult sometimes.

Hmm... I debated taking up this challenge, since I'm already doing a personal one of getting to 280 by my birthday, august 10. And in the past I've always jumped in on these things with unrealistic expectations of losing 2-3 pounds a week, which just doesn't happen consistently and I get all discouraged adn give up.

But I'm already down to 288. 275 in 11 weeks only a little above 1 pound a week, and probably do-able, even with vacation in there. So I'll do it.

My goal: 275 by August 31.

Alright, so I'm in! I totally need to get back on track and what better motivation that a 100lb club challenge?! :D

Will check back in with my goal... haven't been on a scale in several months. I'd say I'll aim for about a 20 lb. loss and I will confirm that later.

My biggest goal is to eat well, exercise at least 5 times per week and drink lots of water... I want to get back on track! :)

American Aimee, I dislike challenges as well, I never seem to reach my goals.

HOWEVER August is a milestone month for me as it's my 26th bday, so I'm going to say under 240, which is 14 pounds.

I plan to get there by hiking, weights and water! My plan is to hike 2-3 times a week until my summer vacation (july 2nd), and while on vacation I'm going to try and keep that up. When I return I'm going to the Grouse Grind. :fr:

I want to officially be one full size smaller by the end of the summer. I want to walk into a store and know that I will be able to pick up that one size smaller and it will fit perfectly - everything in that size (okay, well maybe not everything, but you get the drift). No "well if I suck in two inches I can wear these"...no "it's a little snug but maybe in a month"...just walk in, zip, comfortable, go! I'm not judging this years goal by weight, I'm judging it by how my clothes feel. So by the end of the summer I want to go from a 26 to a 24. That's all I want, and I think I can do it!

Jen, thank you for presenting this challenge - what a fantastic idea. I am in. My big deal was to be 130 lbs by May. Well, I turned 40 in May and I was no where near 130 (which, being that I am 5' 8" is an unrealistic weight for me anyway). So, now that the pressure is off and I have stopped berating myself, I am ready for a challenge too. I would like to reach 254 pounds by August 31, 2005. That means I have twenty pounds to lose. More important than numbers, I want to continue exercising, eat whole foods and being good to myself. Thanks again Jen and I look forward to see how we all do...I know you ONEDERLANDERS or OHNEELANDERS (I did chuckle over that) will get there---here we go!

Sorry, I just saw your post. Yes, I do WW too, the flex plan. Good luck starting, it takes some getting used to counting the points. Also, if you do the journal buddy thread, it helps you be accountable.

I didn't lose but didn't gain either. I'm really motivated now to get back on track because I've been examining what I've been eating the past week or 2 and geez no wonder I"m not losing! I've been getting to the gym a lot more often but if I'm still eating crap it really won't make a difference. I've increased my cardio to 35 minutes and I'm doing a couple of machines each time as well. So today has been really good and I'm planning on keeping it up so that I can report a loss next week.

I am doing okay with food but need to get a little more active. I have been doing some stuff but not as intense as I need to. Along with the desire to lose 20 lbs by end of August, I am also planning to go kayaking for the first time in mid August...soooo, better get working on that upper body!

Dakotamidnight - it is not only .6, it is .6 of a pound that you lost and that is fantastic!!

I am going to weigh in on Monday so I will let you know how it goes!

I know I'm a little late - but I would still like to join!

My goal: 25lbs by Sept. 1st - then I'll be halfway to goal!!!
The plan: Well, I'm working on a waterfront so my goal is to do a relevant swimming/running workout every day (6 days a week) as well as drinking LOTS of water & keeping the "extras" to a minimum (no control over my actual diet as I'm at a camp!)

2. Continue cardio everyday
3. Continue weight training every other day

I know in this world of instant gratification, it can be frustrating that you don't lose 10 pounds a week or whatever, but any loss is a step in the right direction and is by no means any reason to get discouraged! Chin up, girl...at least you're heading in the right direction or both your body and your health!

My boyfriend moved from Preston to the US about 11 years ago. He is now a permanent resident (a/k/a resident alien! LOL). I'm American, so it makes for a very interesting relationship. We were in Preston this past April for my 40th birthday! He hadn't been back there in 10 years, and he was amazed how much everything changed. We also went to Lytham briefly--loved the windmill!!

So what is a sweet American girl like you doing in Preston??

I'm still on plan. I don't know if I've lost any more. I won't weigh myself until Wednesday. When I weigh myself daily, the ups can really discourage me, so I only do it once a week, but when the loss slows down, I'll probably only weigh twice a month. I NEED to see losses!! ;)

My menu yesterday:

Friday July 8th

B:honey nut cheerios/ff milk/half banana

L: 1 dumpling w/ 1 cup veggie beef soup

D: 1.5 cup turkey chili, 3 saltines, 1 c. pasta salad

929 calories.

I know that my calories were too low, I did that on purpose. I like to vary my calories, the day before was arond 1500. :dizzy:

hi Rose.
Looking at your end of summer challenge and you have lost 22 lbs already. I certainly wouldn't be discouraged over that. That is no small feat to lose that much already! You have done well.
I know the scale is rough. I am not only on it every morning but sometimes in the day time too and I know it can be upsetting. But KNOW that and keep it in the back of your mind and promise yourself before getting on you will not be discouraged if it is up or same.
do you do measurements? I didnt and because of a recent plateau I started measuring bust, waist, and hips once a week. I was pleased to see drops there even though I wasnt losing the weight. So try that if you dont already. That can be encouraging too.
And of course it is easier to say than do but realize if you are eating healthy and exercising that you are still doing your body good whether youve lost weight or inches. Your body still reaps the benefits of your healthy eating and exercise. And you know you feel better when you keep those things up.
But I really think you are doing awesome!
Let us know Wednesday when you weigh how you are doing.

I'm doing ok with food, water, and exercise, but the weight is just not budging. Any ideas on how to bust a stubborn plateau? I've lost 24.5 lbs since 26 April, but my last significant loss was about a month ago. :( I've lost one pound since 21 June. Heeeelpppp!!! :rofl:

Have you changed around your exercise program at all since you started? Also, have you varied your calorie intake every so often to "fool" your body? Have you added weight training to your exercise schedule?

You might want to post what you eat (unless it's already on the journal buddy thread, then we can look there) and what exercise you are doing and how much so we can give you some advice. :) Lots of times getting of a plateau requires that you shake things up a bit.

Sheila, thanks for your advice! Since I started my exercise has been pretty much the same - aerobics, strength training and walking. I've been thinking aobut getting a tae bo dvd and purchasing some hand weights - at the moment I'm using 'canned goods' :lol: as weights- these are a few of my personal priorities for this weekend.

I don't count calories, but I know roughly how many I'm eating (1500) - I've not toyed with the 'zig zag' method yet but am working on that today. I've slowed down on snacks and carbs (and am drinking more than my 64 oz of water). We'll see what happens... Someone else gave me similar advice in another thread. I hope this works!

I just realized that I've only lost 5 lbs since we started in 6/14! Yes, I know it's not "only", but at this rate, I may not hit 30lbs.

I'm getting a little nervous, August is coming quickly!!

Well, I dropped 2 pounds this week to put me halfway there. :goodscale: I'm not pinning my hopes on averaging 2.6 pounds a week for the remaining time to meet the challenge though. Still, what's another couple of weeks in the grand scheme of things?

With only 5 weeks to go, how's everyone else doing?

I joined late in the game, but I'm still pleased that I've lost some weight and have -11 to look forward to over the next five weeks. Hopefully, I can consistently lose 2lbs/week :crossed: (We'll see)

Exactly 5 weeks to go! Good to see that so many are having successes!

I wish I could report better news for myself but I'm not completely giving up. Things have been rough around here. Seems like there is always something going on with the husband, work or trying to get the darned house ready to sell. Anyhow I'm just shooting for 10 lbs at this point, 2 lbs a week is reasonable.

WOW! I hit my end of summer goal today. I was a bit conservative with my goal because at the time I made it I was plateaued. I am so hit to see those numbers though!!

Hi All, I've just movd house and don't have internet access just yet so I've not been able to update. Everything is still swell. I've lost another pound. 'Only' 10 to go over the next 3.5 weeks :lol3: OK, I'll be happy with losing 5 of those... stay strong everyone!

Haven't seen some of our challengers around for a while. Hope everyone is having a fun summer, and even if you don't meet your goal, we still want you to stick around and post.

With 25 days left in this challenge, I have to lose 8.5 lbs. (which would put me .5 pounds into VFT--my goal). I've been averaging about 1 lb. a week so I'm skeptical about making it, but glad that I'm plugging along. Can't really think of what else to do to speed up the weight loss so I'll just be happy that I'm losing something every week.

Nice work! Can I join too? I know I'm in a bit late, but still a couple of weeks until the ends of August. So, I'm hoping to be down to 230 lbs by August 31. That's 9 lbs. down. Challenging, but I think I can do it!!! I hope i have as much success as many of you have. You all amaze me!!!

I also have 8 lbs to go in two weeks. I peeked at the scales and I am down this week but will not record an official weight until Friday. I'm hopeful for eight pounds in two weigh ins but I don't know.

Since I weighed-in this morning, today marks the end of the challenge for me. I didn't quite make it, but that's okay. I thought it was a little ambitious anyway, and 22 pounds gone in 11 weeks isn't too shabby at all. :smug:

Well done to all those who took part, and congratulations to Dee, Kimmifier, Omega Laura, and YP1 who I see have either hit or passed their targets. :bravo: Sorry if I missed anyone out.

Hmm, I did pass my target. And then my body decided that if I liked it so much as a target I'd like to plateau there for a while :(

Still, I'd rather stick at 199 for a few weeks than 200, I suppose ;)
