South Beach Diet - Phase 1 Start - Monday June 6th

View Full Version : Phase 1 Start - Monday June 6th

06-06-2005, 10:28 PM
Decided I need to start phase 1 over. I need to get the cravings all out of my system. I have done this program before and I feel great when I do it, but I just takes one weekend of junkfood eating to get me off the program. So if anyone wants to join me for the next two weeks hop on board.

Can't get the titled corrected? What am I doing wrong?

06-07-2005, 12:28 AM
Patty, I think that's one of the nice things about the beach. You know what you need to do and you can do it.

I have also found that all you need is a bad weekend with too many birthday parties & not enough will power & you're back at square one.

First of all congratulations on deciding to detox again.

The tags do not work in the titles. Sorry. It's that way for control of type size in the titles of threads.

I'm on board. This is my first go round on Phase I. I started yesterday and had a great day. I think I can do this (I think I can, I think I can!!!)

06-07-2005, 02:31 PM
I started on Sunday - I don't know if I'll make if for two weeks - the lack of variety is probably going to get to me by the weekend. I'm single so I'm not doing a lot of cooking. I'm going to go get some low type carb - meat and veggies only - frozen dinners. I gave up smoking 8 months ago and I definately have an oral/munchie "issue"! Anyway, I'm in on your 2 week crusade!

06-07-2005, 02:49 PM
Good luck to all on Phase 1! I know you'll do fine. This board is very helpful, loaded with helpful information and good recipes!:hun:

06-07-2005, 03:27 PM
Patricia: you're right - I just found 2 recipes that involve black beans - I love them and that'll do the trick! A little celery and I can do some dipping! :s: And an egg recipe. :D

Thanks -

Hello Ladies,

Day 1 and it was rough. So many times I wanted to sneak into my co-wokers office and get a piece of candy, but I i didn't. I was prepared so I had lots of snack foods to eat. My water is another story. I have only drank 48 oz so far. Get to drink more.....

Beckatz - I know you can I know you can. I saw where you had lost quite a bit of weight already. Did you lose that doing a program?

Zanesgrammy - I'm with you. Being single I end up eating the same ol stuff. Or I overcook and end up throwing away.

Ruth - thanks for the information. Someone cleaned up my title.

Hope everyone is having a great evening!

Beckatz...Welcome to the beach!

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the 3FatChicks board and this is my first post. I used to be a regular over at the boards before Bev took them down.

Anyway, I'm glad to be joining you on the beach. I actually started Phase 1 today (Tuesday), but will definitely try to support all of you who got your act together one day before me!

Today was pretty successful for me, though I did mess up and have a tiny piece of a carrot by accident. Got to review that food list!

I've got a bit of a sugar withdrawal headache, but it could just be fatigue.

Sending you lots of strength and support. You can do it! 1day@atime's screen name says it all! Good luck!

welcome all!!!

Hello Ladies,

Day 2 and it was a better than yesterday. The hardest thing for me was passing up some leftover muffins in the break room. Doing a little better on my water.

Adi - yesterday was my first day too! I printed a copy from here and keep it in my purse. I know my problem will be counting the pistachos. I tend to eat more than allowed.

Hope you had a great day today!

06-09-2005, 12:05 AM
Hi everyone,

I should be like Patty and carry a copy of the allowed foods with me at all times since today I made a few borderline choices. I totally forgot about the nut limit and probably had more than 15 almonds!

Otherwise, everything was peachy (minus the peaches) and I'm really proud of myself for sticking to the plan.

Hope that everyone else had a great day!

Patty-- you seem on top of everything. Stay strong. Put those extra pistachios away! ;)

06-09-2005, 02:46 AM
Darn those pistachios! I also fell for them & had them almost ruin me. I don't even buy them anymore, I sure miss them :(

Hello Ladies,

Are any of you all eating peanut butter? I purchased a jar of the natural peanut butter and it really looked gross. I know the lowfat one I have is not on ph1, but that is what really helps me get through these first few days. Any suggestions on Peanut Butter?

06-09-2005, 02:49 PM
I have bought Trader Joe's and the Smucker's natural. how does it look gross? Is the oil on top? You have to mix it :) it tastes GREAT! I think you could add some splenda to it if it's not sweet enough for you.

06-09-2005, 03:22 PM
I use Smucker's Natural. Take a butter knife and go up and down to mix in the oil. Once it is well mixed, keep it in the refrigerator and you won't have to remix it. I don't use it often but it is good. You get used to it not being so sweet after awhile. I have also heard of some people who mix Splenda in if they like it sweeter. Make sure you keep it to the 2TBSP limit and don't eat peanut butter if you eat nuts (or eat a half serving of each).

I was doing strictly low-carb and lost the 55 pounds but I got stuck for months. I would go back and forth with the same 4 pounds so I decided to go to the beach to jump start my weight loss again. It seems to be working. I have lost another 5 pounds since Monday. It's all good.

06-09-2005, 09:39 PM
Hello Ladies,

Becka - 5 lbs since monday that is great. I think i'm only at 2lbs. I have got to start exercising. I always seem to lose about 6 lbs then get stuck for a while, then end up gaining back. I can't seem to get past 165 lbs. I think it's probably a mental thing too.

Barb & Jenne - I think i'll buy try some of the Smuckers' brand. I'm not sure what I had purchased, but yes the oil was at the top, but it seemed alot coarser. I just looked bad. I think that is part of my problem too, I don't ever try new things. I tend to eat the same old stuff.
That will be my goal for this week..try something new.

Do you have any breakfast ideas? I have been eating hard boiled eggs, or i'll eat Turkey breast from the deli with cheese. I'm getting tired of that.

06-10-2005, 10:23 AM
When I have the time I like to heat up some olive oil and add chopped mushroom and onions (or green onions). Once they are cooked I add Eggbeaters (or an egg that has been stirred first) on top of the veggies. I cook on one side flip and then add a slice of 2% swiss cheese (choose your favorite cheese). In phase 2 I put this inside a WW tortilla.

Usually I eat phase 2 meals like oatmeal with fruit or mini WW bagel with yogurt or fruit.

Hello Ladies,

Thanks Barb for tips. I purchased some of that Da Vinc syrup. Going to try and add that maybe to the ricotta cheese. Any idea on what else to use that with?

Day 4 for me. Still having a hard time getting my water in.

06-10-2005, 10:26 PM
I don't care for plain milk but I love milk with added DaVinci or Torani syrup. Chocolate with a little Creme de Menthe is really good
I also like Vanilla. I've added it to yogurt but never seem to get the flavor just right so I mainly use it with milk.

I too am in p1. On day 5 today. It is amazing how much beter I feel by the end of the first week (2nd time p1).

For those of you who were talking about peanut butter, I have a store in the area that carries bulk foods. They have a nut grinder there and I just grind my own peanut butter. No salt or sugar is added. It tastes quit a bit different that the other sugar peanut butters but after I used it for a while I now can't stand the sugar loaded stuff. I store it in the fridge and it tastes as good at the end of the month as it does at the beginning of the month.

06-11-2005, 12:21 PM
Thanks Shelby's Mom - I didn't even think of going to our Whole Foods store here. I'm pretty sure they have one of those machines there. Last night I purchased the Smuckers so i'll try that today.

Barb - thanks for the tips on adding that with milk. Where do you find Torani syrup? My walmart here only has the DaVinci brands, for a while they only carried the sf vanilla and the hazlenut. One day I noticed they had sf raspberry. So i'm going to try that with the ricotta and now i'll try with milk and yogurt.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

I was getting Artesan and Torani brand at Marshalls and then I found out that World Marketplace had DaVinci and had more flavors. So I shop at both. I have heard that TJ Maxx also has the syrups but I haven't been there to check.

06-14-2005, 02:32 PM
Barb - Marshall's the clothing store? Or is there another type of Marshall i'm not aware of.

Yesterday was a bad day for me. I was stressed at work and I just need one piece of chocholate. I told myself just one. We'll 4 pieces later I finally got ride of the rest. Today i'm back on track.

06-14-2005, 03:14 PM
Just wanted to pop in and say Good Luck to all you Phase 1ners!
Try the Mock French Toast receipe under the Recipe section Phase 1 breakfasts -it's delish!

06-14-2005, 04:01 PM
Yup, Marshall's is a clothing store. They have a section with flavored oils and SF syrups. World Market had a larger selection though.

06-14-2005, 09:34 PM
Barb - I will try World Market, I'm just 20 minutes or so away from you. I live Rowlett.

06-15-2005, 10:18 AM
Wow! We're getting several of us from the DFW area. We have one in Rockwall (pretty sure that is GoingFishin) and Kiko (who just had the baby) is up in McKinney (or Frisco).

06-16-2005, 10:07 PM
Hello Ladies,

Tried the natural peanut butter with some splenda and it was good. NOt as good as Skippy low fat, but a good enough substitution.

Hope everyone is having a great day!
