WW Clubs and Groups - 50 or More Pounds #64View Full Version : 50 or More Pounds #64 JanetMae 05-30-2001, 10:17 AM If you have around 50 (or more) pounds to lose, this is the group for you! So jump on in and join; you'll be sure to get a warm welcome! :) JanetMae 05-30-2001, 10:40 AM Patti, you're making me want to be in New Orleans right now, instead of waiting till September! Sounds like y'all had a lot of fun. Good for you, choosing the grilled salmon (one of my favorites too!) instead of something fried. And yes, you can pay for missed meetings and just keep on going, or if the missed mtg fees would be higher than rejoining, you can do that instead. Merri, we're so proud of you for going to your meeting; so glad it made you feel motivated, too! Don't worry about the small gain; as Texaslady says, I'm sure you'll have that back off in no time, especially with all the exercise you do. I'll bet you'd be a great water aerobics instructor; what a fun goal to pursue! Keep us posted on that, ok? Linda, great to hear from you again! We missed you. And you are once again setting a good example for us, by taking care of these few extra pounds right away and working your way back to goal, rather than letting things go. That's what maintenance and lifetime membership are about, imho. Re: the new program, it took 2 pts off the top of each range (we have to earn it back with exercise), capped the fiber at 4 grams (so you count it as 4 even if it's 7, say) and made certain starchier veggies worth points (carrots, onions, jicama, corn, peas). I'm with Texaslady; 123 worked so well for me, I'm sticking to that, although I have upped the points on a few really high-fiber items. JOYce, all that walking (and in the heat, no less!) is sure to pay off! Sounds like your dgd is excited to be starting college. How wonderful that she turned to you for help, too! Did your dh get back from that last fishing trip yet? Did he have good luck? Texaslady, that's a great idea; imagine the neat stuff we could find! You know, it's usually nice and cool (70's) in December down there; wonder if anyone is up for a Laredo trip between Christmas and New Year's? Congrats on getting your dd moved in; I can just imagine how hectic that's been. It's sweet of you to dogsit too; you're right, dogs can be so disturbed by changes, and by strangers coming in and out of the house. Granddog will be much happier with you during all that! Guess I'd better get back to work; am taking a half day off this afternoon to take Dad to San Antonio for a checkup, so have lots of loose ends to tie up. Everyone have a great Wednesday! Regards, Jan gmalil 05-30-2001, 11:59 AM WHEW!..just had to get that out of my system! I guess we experienced a rolling black-out this morning. Before 6:00a.m., before time for alarm clocks etc!! thank goodness, my alarm clock shrieked at me when the power went off! I had to be ready to get the girls up, knowing that their clocks wouldn't go off! (Have I gotten used to lazing in bed in the a.m.??) It lasted just over an hour. The only other rolling blackout that I know of in our town, was at rush hour in the afternoon, and it put out the traffic lights, on the other side of town, which really slowed things down. Jan dh's last fishing trip was a 'bust' because of the trailer problems that sent him back home. he and ds went deepsea for a day, but all they got was barracuda, and gave it away. He is planning to go sometime in June, but I just saw that there is a hurricane down off Mexico, so I'm sure he will wait til it is gone. texaslady, You are really getting a work out, getting dd's home ready! What fun! I put the picture that was taken at the prom as well as a cap and gown picture on my opening page, so you won't have to search the whole site. :). O.K.! I feel better... and know that my friend the puter is o.k., so better go get ready for this day...someone will be here soon to give an estimate on repairing our roof, which leaks in light rains. this is a new roof that dh and ds put on about 7 yrs ago, but they can't find the prob...time for the pros. :D Hi Linda! ~~~~ Joyce texaslady 05-30-2001, 01:43 PM Joyce - I was just reading the thread and had to drop in and say I'm sorry about the blackout. Your comment about the traffic lights really made me think - Can you imagine if the traffic lights went out in Houston??? My gosh, it would take me 10 hours to commute back out to the suburbs!!! I am at work and don't have your website bookmarked here - but I will check out the pics tonight at my home computer. Jan - Gosh, December doesn't sound bad to me - that will be life AFTER the wedding and things should be back to normal, whatever that is. Let's see if anyone else is up for it. Rymsh 05-30-2001, 06:01 PM Hi everyone. I hope you had a good "Hump Day". I only worked about 5 hours- yesterday was a 13 hour day, so I was trying to even out the hours a bit(we have a nurse on vacation). Then I met a friend for lunch. So that's been my day. Tomorrow morning is my consult with the surgeon. His office is less than a mile from mine, so I'll go to work from 6-9, then go see him and return to work afterwards. Long day. Friday after work is my first epidural steroid injection for the back/leg mess. Gee, who says I never do anything fun? Merri I'm really proud of you for going to your meeting even tho you knew your had gained a bit! I think half the battle in the weight loss business is facing reality and taking responsibility for your actions- which you did like a champ! Plus, like Jan said, the time to go is when you are struggling! Water aerobics sound wonderful- boy, would my muscles and joints like that! :) Wish we had somewhere near for that! Jan, it sounds like you had a wonderful time at Laredo, and exercised admirable restraint at that wonderful restaurant! (I still remember Janet and I with their wonderful tortilla chips!!!) Laredo between Xmas and New Years would be wonderful, but I don't know how do-able it will be from my end. Aside from the expense of Xmas and my sweetie's birthday being considerable, I have this concern about flying that far again in the winter. Anyhow, it's worth a thought, and I won't give up on the idea- sure would be fun!!! You didn't tell us what you bought while you and dh were there. Joyce, now, don't you get carried away with too much walking in the heat so soon after your surgery!! I hear that some California realtors who are fortunate enough to have properties in the "no blackout" zones where hospitals, etc., are advertising that fact as a selling point, because home sales in other areas have been real slow due to the blackout possibilities. Patti, I'm glad you enjoyed the dinner with your niece- and made such a healthy choice! How's the car repair coming? Have you recovered from the cost of the parts yet? Linda, welcome back!! I keep asking Joyce about you! Good for you for getting back on track before the added pounds get away from you! I'll echo the sentiments of Jan and Texaslady- 1-2-3 got me as far as I am, and I'm not going to mess with a good thing that works!!! And I don't count my carrots as points! Texaslady, I think if someone came up behind me and softly whispered "boo" I'd jump out of my skin at this point :dizzy:, but I'm hanging in there- thanks for all your supportive emails. How exciting that moving day is almost here! Are you and your granddog planning any special bonding activities over the weekend? Kendra, how are you? Don't slip away from us now that you've come back! Hi to Liz, Janet, Rebecca, Saara and Stamps(where are you, Stamps??). Take care, everyone. Carol Figgie 05-30-2001, 06:19 PM Hello, back to you! Thanks for your warm welcome when I posted for the first time in many moons yesterday. You're right; the welcomes (and welcome-backs) are always so warm. I think that maybe I will go back to the old 123 program, because trying to stay within the lower points range (the new one they started at the beginning of the year) is really tough sometimes. I never did count fiber more than the first 5 grams, so that won't be different. I went to my WI this morning and much to my delight, gained only .4--and this was after not weighing in for a month and not being very careful with my points counting. I am imagining how it could be when I go back to tracking all of my points and walking on the treadmill again. Jan, thanks for your positive feedback, as usual--what you said about my still setting an example was a kind thing to say, and it made me smile when I read it. I have about ten more pounds to go til I am back at goal. Carol, how are you doing? When I read of your concerns I also prayed for you, that things will come out OK. I have thought of you so often the past few days. May the Lord give you His peace. How is little Sweetie? Saara, congrats on being accepted at the University in Utah. Good job. Utah has some beautiful scenery; I'm sure you have been told that several times, though. Our dd graduated from California State University at Fullerton last Saturday morning. It was a wonderful graduation and a wonderful day. Her major was accounting, which according to her was a really tough major to have chosen. At the university's office they messed up her schedule last fall and told her she had to take a certain class, then she found out at the end of the semester that they had steered her the wrong way, and that she needed to make it up in summer school after graduation. She took it with a good deal of aplomb and will start the twice-weekly, 6 week long class tomorrow night. **Then** she will really be all through with schooldays! She does have tenacity. I have read about your reunion in New Orleans -- what fun! Eat a begniet for me, will you? Figgie 05-30-2001, 06:33 PM Well, Carol, we must have posted at the same time. I am glad that you did ask JOYce about me from time to time because that was one of the reasons I started thinking about this group more and more, finally deciding to come back. My gosh, a 13-hour day yesterday--you certainly do work hard. Glad that today was only 5 hours' worth. Make it a great evening! saarao 05-31-2001, 08:30 AM Hi everyone! Just a quick post before I go to work again. I have so much to do, and so little time... I turned in my paperwork today, so now I have accepted the place in Utah. Now I have to get the insurance and the visa. I heard that the INS is planning to start collectin a $100 fee for visa applications, hope they don't decide it before I apply for mine. The $480 for the health insurance is enough extra costs on top of the program fee... Well, I believe that Utah is really beautiful, as Linda said. And it will be great to be there during the olympics. But I'm already getting sick of everyone talking about this polygamy stuff... Everyone thinks that I will soon be someone's 4th wife or something. I know that most people are just joking, but it's not funny anymore when it's everyone's first comment when I tell them I'm going to Salt Lake City for a year. Luckily those people that know me best have enough faith in me not to even joke about something like that. Even my American "dad" just sent me an email warning. Gosh why can't people just be happy that I get this great opportunity to study abroad for a year. Sorry, I just had to vent a bit. I know that most people actually are happy for me. Well, the weather here is back to warm and sunny again. I hope it stays that way. I'm starting to feel like 2 months is going to be too short for all I want to do before I leave. I guess it's goign to be just party after party... lots of other people are leaving on exchange to, my roommate is going to Sweden for the fall semester and Spain for the spring semester. we're already planning a huge farewell party in August right before I leave. About the december gettogether possibility, I don't know if I can make it. I think I'll go to California for Christmas, but I don't know how long I'll stay. My american "sister" has promised to save me her "buddypasses", hopefully there will be plenty of them, so I can make several trips during the year. I guess I can't really make plans before I'm actually in Utah and know more about the school schedule... Well, have a great day!!! Saara. gmalil 06-01-2001, 12:59 AM Saara! What a busy time you will have! Sorry about the stereotype that Utah has! :( Just try to ignore it, is the best advice that I can give. Enjoy all the excitement and anticipation of getting ready to leave! What a fun time!! (careful with all those parties!!)...(that is grandma speaking) :D Carol, My thoughts and prayers are with you as you go to the surgeon tomorrow, I pray that he/she has good news for you! Don't worry about my overdoing! I haven't walked since I bragged about it! I had to stay home yesterday, waiting for a roofing estimate, and today was Meals on Wheels day for me and Linda. I get a different kind of exercise...getting in and out of the car 9 times! It is a good workout, although brief. Linda drives and I deliver the food. it is getting back up to the 3 digit temps, so I need to do it early in the day. Tomorrow, I am going to a china painting show, so that will involve some walking, although, not power walking. I had a homemade, frosted brownie at Bible study tonight, and was offered another as I left, it was soooo tempting, but I firmly said NO :nono:, and left, I can still taste it!!! It was so good. But I mentioned the 2.8 pounds I lost, and came on home without it. :smug: good night all. ~~~~~~~~ Joyce Rymsh 06-01-2001, 05:26 AM Hi- I don't have much time, but wanted to give you a quick update on my surgeon's visit yesterday. I'm scheduled for the biopsy Wed AM. It'll take about an hour or so to get the samples and is done under local anesthesia. If this is inconclusive he'd have to do a more involved biopsy in the hospital. He was neutral- said there's definitely something suspicious going on, but whether it's malignant or benign is impossible to tell without a biopsy. It'll take about 48 hours to get results after it's done. So, the waiting game continues. Kind of wish I weren't starting this back thing so I could keep myself real busy till the biopsy, but I can't (will have to be off my fet 24 hours after todays injection) so such is life. This too shall pass! Gotta run. Talk to you all later. Have a good weekend, everyone. Carol texaslady 06-01-2001, 09:28 AM Happy Friday, everyone! Carol - I am so glad you reported in - I was really thinking about you yesterday. I know that Wednesday seems an eternity away right now and the waiting game is just awful. I am hopeful the injections will do wonders for your back - I know that would help your mood too! As I said, ex-dh had them and swears it was a miracle to be released from the back pain he had been suffering. Hang in there, girl. Saara - OK - this is another "mom" speaking here - you do need to be careful with all those parties! I know that you know how many points are in alcohol - besides, it lessens our resistance to other temptations as well (meaning food!!!)! You have a good time but continue to practice the restraint you have had in the past and you will be fine. I am still SO excited for you! Don't worry about the polygamy stuff - its the same as everyone expecting cowboys and horses all over Texas. Sure, its there, but its not EVERYWHERE! And even if it was - you always have a CHOICE! You will be fine - don't let those others get to you. Linda - Yep, I think sticking with 123 is a great idea. Staying OP and getting on the treadmill should have those 10 pounds off in no time. Better to lose 10 than 50 - that's for sure. So smart of you to know that! Congrats on your dd's college graduation. Its wonderful that so many of us either had kids who graduated or did so ourselves! JOYce - Good for you on resisting the second Brownie! Doesn't it make you feel good when you have overcome a hurdle like that? That plus all your walking this week should produce positive results at your next WI. Keep on keeping on!! Sorry I forgot to check out your website for the pics last night. Was late when I got back from dd's and I bascially took a shower and went to bed! I will look at them this week-end. My "grand-dog" and I bonded quite nicely, thank you! We always do. He played outside (I have a large fenced-in yard!!) and he so ready to crash - even though I went to bed earlier than his "mama & daddy" usually do. The only problem we had this a.m. was that I have a bad habit of setting my alarm early and hitting the snooze button multiple times. Well, everytime it went off he thought it was time to get up! When I didn't move he would settle down again only to be ready to get up again 7 minutes later! I finally just gave up and we both got up! Time to get myself organized for the day! Hope everyone has a good week-end. Carol - you do what the doctor says and STAY OFF YOUR FEET for 24 hours after your visit today! Well, at least stay off them for as much as you can. I am thinking about you. Kudzu 06-01-2001, 09:59 AM Hey gang...I've only got a second, but I wanted to say...Carol, you are still in my thoughts and prayers. I want to call you this weekend, but if you have to stay flat on your back are you even going to bother with answering the phone? I still have good feelings about your biopsy, and I'm sending good vibes your way. Good luck with the injection today. Saara, that is wonderful about your Utah placement. I agree with JOYce's advice to try to ignore all the comments. There is a polygamist here in the states who has been on every talk show known to man defending his beliefs. He was recently convicted and is waiting to be sentenced. That may be one reason that the topic is so fresh on everyone's minds. I am very excited that you are going to be there for the winter olympics. I have never been to Utah, but from what I have seen in pictures, it is a beautiful state. What an exciting time for you. I'm going to try to finish posting later, but right now I've got to get back to work...but I can't leave without saying hi to Linda. I had asked JOYce about you several times and had asked her to tell you hello. We have really missed your posts. Hi also to Kendra. We missed you too and are so glad that you and Linda are back!! Well, it's off to work I go. More later.... Janet (Kudzu) Figgie 06-02-2001, 01:11 AM Thanks, Carol, for your thoughts about me during my absence. It is nice to be back, and I do think that in being back I'll start buckling down again (maybe tomorrow -- oops; I baked cookies today and have had 8 or 10 as of this writing...). This afternoon when dh and I were walking to an office where he had an appointment my jeans were beginning to feel looser again, but tonight my underpinnings are feeling a little *tight,* so I guess those cookies have settled in to stay for awhile. Texaslady, your positive feedback was nice to read. Ten pounds doesn't seem like a huge amount to lose, although I have found that the last few pounds are really pesky. Thanks for the congrats on dd's graduation -- gosh, I don't think I mentioned... (no humility on my part) **she graduated cum laude.** Enough of tooting my horn for her; she would be pretty embarrassed if she knew I had put this on the net. That was so funny about your granddoggy starting to bolt every seven minutes when your snooze alarm kept going off! Hee! Carol, you have an exemplary attitude. God bless you. I pray that you will have a good (and not too boring!) rest this weekend. I must have missed the details of this injection you had in your back. Had you injured it recently? Make it a good weekend, everyone! Rymsh 06-02-2001, 08:55 AM Good morning everyone! This is my second try at this- I had my post well on the way when I accidentally hit the "escape" key!:( My back procedure went well yesterday- I'm a little sore in that area when I am on my feet today (which I'm not suposed to be anyway today, so no big deal), but other than that it doing fine. You should see how I've rigged myself up so I can be on my computer and still have my legs up and some pressure off the back! Linda, huge congrats to you and your dd on her graduating cum laude!! You must be so proud!!!But, a huge :nono: on the 8-10 cookies!!! One or two, maybe, but not 8-10!! But at least you've got that out of your system!:D The back thing was an injury on top of a pre-exsisting proble. I have some degeneration of my spine (due to my Lupus, they tell me now) causing compression of a nerve root. I have loss of muscle strenth and some reflex loss in my left leg, which is why they are doing this series of stuff on me- hopefully to avoid surgery which I have no intention of having done anyhow. It was pretty stable till Feb when I was helping hold down a child while the doctor I work for drew her blood. The child's mom let her legs go, and I rose up and twisted suddenly to avoid a kick in the face, and then couldn't straighten or move. And thus the previous progress and stability went down the tubes! Now, aren't you sorry you asked? Saara, I'll add my maternal wisdom to Texaslady's about the major partying! Not only the points, but the well documented and big time health risks associated with party binge drinking! Be careful! We don't want anything to happen to you! When do you leave- have they given you a date yet? What have they told you about your host family? They are so lucky to have you! Joyce, good for you for resisting the second brownie! See, now you're the good example for Linda to follow instead of the other way round!:) How nice that you all do the meals on wheels- I know the 2 of you are a joy to the people you visit! Texaslady, your poor granddog must have been exhausted after all the snooze alarm activity! That's a riot! Janet, thanks for the good luck vibes- would love to talk to you this weekend if you have time! How are you feeling? Well, ladies, I've run on long enough with this, so I'll just say "hi" to everyone I missed. Have a great, op weekend! Carol gmalil 06-02-2001, 05:46 PM Hi all! I lost another 1.6 pounds this week! I didn't get to stay for the meeting, I had to be a 'soccer gma' today. dh is out deepsea fishing, so I had to go cheer-on Casie and her team... I did a great job, they won 7-0!!! I thought of you saara, one of the mom's asked if I could take a German exchange student this summer...I don't think I could handle that along with all the comings and goings of family. I'm going to go up to see my mom and sisters on Monday, have to sneak in a quick trip before all the graduation frivolities begin! Now, I must put on my red face.. :o I drove 30 miles to the site of the china painting show yesterday, to realize just before I turned into the parking lot that I was a week early!! :o I know exactly how to get there next week! I came home and walked the antigue district, instead. I found 2 little dolls, and then treated myself to a lunch at the Tea garden. I even did the antique store that has 2 flights of stairs, and walked them all! WHEW!! That store is always fun for me, it was a Dept/dime store when we got married 45 yrs ago, and I remember some of the things I purchased there, like the red plastic cannister set with white lids! {{{{Carol, }}}}good for you, for figuring out a way to stay on the puter and off your feet!! don't over-do with the wierd gyrations! you might complicate things!! Bye for now.. ~~~~~ Joyce Figgie 06-03-2001, 03:20 AM Carol, I am very sorry about your back problems, and no, I am not sorry I asked, you silly thing. My dh has had back problems for most of his life, actually -- his bones are not the best, I guess. About four weeks ago he worked at the church shovelling dirt into trenches (we are building a new education building; it is very exciting! I signed up to bake -- uh, oh--*cookies* when needed) and it exacerbated an old injury (sounds like what happened to you). He's had x-rays, which showed some degeneration of his spine, a herniated disk and a possible hairline fracture. An MRI taken on Friday will go to his doctor, and he will tell us what is up for sure and what we can do about it. It must be just awful to have back problems; the spine is such a major part of our bodies. Did you say that you had an injection? Is it supposed to help with the pain? I hope that you get to rest a lot this weekend. How is little Sweetie? I must say, I love that little guy in the text who wiggles his index finger--I will heed it and lay off the cookies for awhile. :) JOYce--congrats yet again on that loss. You told me that watching your points and all of the exercising you did last week probably contributed to it. I think that is great! Keep up the good work; and let some of it rub off on your friends, OK? :) I know; I know--I gotta do it myself.... Happy sunday to all! gmalil 06-04-2001, 10:24 AM Good morning! Just checking in, trying new toys. But must dash.. I am going to go visit my Mother and sis for a couple of days, didn't want you to think I was AWOL. all is well, i will check in on Wed. ~~~~ Joyce texaslady 06-04-2001, 02:18 PM HOW COOL IS THIS???!!! :D Carol - How are you feeling today? I have been thinking about you all week-end. Any relief from the pain yet? I sure hope so. JOYce - Have a good time visiting your sis and Mom. Check in again when you get back. I laughed over your week-end exploits. Sounds just like something I would do - but, as you pointed out, you won't get lost NEXT week-end! Linda - How's it going? I can imagine it is difficult to put yourself back OP after coasting along on maintenence for so long. Are you back on the treadmill yet? And I guess you are going to have to STOP baking cookies for a while! Saara - Where are you? Still partying? I think its neat that both you and your roommate are leaving for assignments at the same time. You will have some great adventures to tell when you get back together again. Jan - Haven't heard from you for a few days. Seems you told me your "last" day was in early June. Are you officially a teacher again now? I see you have your surgery planned for later this month. I know you will be glad when it is over with. DD and fiance have their furniture into the new house now. I went over there Sat. morning and it looks like they have been living there a month instead of one day! That can be chalked up to all the hard work they have put into the place this past month and the fact that they were able to move all the little things in carload by carload and get everything put away. But it does look great - they are so pleased. They plan a yard sale next week-end to try to sell the furniture they don't have space for and have hauled off some things which have been stored in my gargage for the past year? Now I may actually be able to walk around in there for a change. Better go for now. Hi to Janet, Patti, Rebecca, Kendra, Merri & anyone I may have forgotten:?: . Now to see if this post is as colorful as I think it is! Rymsh 06-04-2001, 03:50 PM Happy Monday, everyone!! I hope it was a good weekend! We have some  new toys here, don't we? Joyce , congrats on your 1.6 pound los! I hope you trip to visit your mom and sister is enjoyable, and that you find them both in good health! We'll miss you! Linda , how is your dh's back doing?? Probably shovelling wasn't the best activity for someone with a long time back problem! Texaslady , first injection really seems to have helped! Hopefully that's a good sign! I can't wait to see pix of your dd's house!!! Jan , when in June is your surgery scheduled? (or did I already ask you that?:o ) I stopped at my dd's on the way home from work to drop her samples of the medicine my little sweetie is on, and of course got to see him too. I swear, he gets cuter every day! He's saying some words, and is just the happiest little guy! He had an advanced case of the giggles today- he has this wonderful belly laugh when he gets really tickled about something! He's such a little love! Well, gotta run- hi to everyone, and have a good evening. Carol JanetMae 06-04-2001, 06:24 PM Hi all! Sorry to be awol, but have had a hectic (but fun) weekend. We had an all-night American Cancer Society walk-a-thon, first one I've been in. I was part of our church's group (we won for "best theme"). It was lots of fun; hundreds of people participated, and I think it helped build a better sense of community here. JOYce, way to go, passing up that brownie! That's the way to do it! And it paid off too, didn't it, with another good loss. Linda, I was about to send you the info on New Orleans; any chance you and your dh might be there too? Re: the cookies, I would have had a hard time not eating any in that situation too. (That's the main reason I cheat and buy bakery cookies, all sealed up, to take to bake sales nowadays. I figure it's worth the extra expense in the long run. Or sometimes I offer to make the signs and bring tables & other stuff instead. ) Carol, I'm so glad that the injection really helped! And your description of your little sweetie was so cute; I can just picture him giggling. What words has he learned so far? I will be saying little prayers for you all this week, that your Wednesday biopsy results are good. If they're ready in 48 hours, does that mean they'll be able to tell you Friday? Texaslady, you are so clever at using all the bells and whistles in this forum! Cool! So glad your DD is settled in now, and that you're getting your garage space back; that must be encouraging. Re: teaching, am officially a teacher again after this week, my last! Have lots of sorting and organizing to do for my replacement, but it feels good to clean things out. And yep, will be *very* glad to get that surgery out of the way on the 27th; I'm not much of a trooper when it comes to things like that. Saara, Janet is right, that Utah guy has been all over the news; that's probably why people are joking about it. Just ignore them, and think of all the great times you'll have next year! I hear the skiing is great there; is that a sport you enjoy? Re: December, most colleges have a fairly long Christmas break, usually from mid-Dec. until mid-January; sure hope we can work something out! I think you'd enjoy Mexico; you probably went across into Tijuana when you were in California, right? Nuevo Laredo is quite different, though. Janet, hope you had a good day at work! Did that parking situation ever work itself out, or are you having to fight for a space every day? Hi to Kendra, Patti, Liz, Stamps, Rebecca and Merri! Hope everyone had a good Monday ... Regards, Jan Figgie 06-05-2001, 12:07 AM Hi, friends...hope you all had a good Monday. JanetMae, thank you for your kind words in saying that you would have found it difficult not to eat cookies like I did -- that was nice of you. :) I froze the rest of the cooky dough so I wouldn't make/eat any more for awhile. Say, after being out of the loop for so long, I don't know anything about your upcoming surgery--I hope it isn't something serious. Nope,:( there isn't much chance that dh and I would be able to meet you in New Orleans...we have had two vacations already this year and we need to stop spending money so freely for awhile.:dizzy: Thanks for the suggestion that we might go, though; I appreciated your invitation. Carol, I was smiling as I read about your little Sweetie. What joy he must bring to you! I was glad to read that your first injection has helped your back; hope you continue to improve. How many injections are you going to have? JOYce brought us a huge bag o' filleted albacore, individually wrapped, yesterday from her dh's fishing trip. We are so blessed to be on the receiving end of his deep sea jaunts...can't wait to sink my teeth into those steaks; yum. And there are so few points in fish. Wish you all lived close to JOYce, too. I have bought three seedless watermelons at Trader Joe's recently. They haven't been that great; not very red yet. Guess I'll have to wait til July or so to get the really ripe ones. I bought dd a box of "Wisecrackers" crackers there too--thought it would be appropriate for the college grad.... TJ's has really neat stuff that you don't see other places. Oh! I also bought about 6 pounds of buffalo meat there, too. Three pounds' worth of patties and three one-pound packages with the meat in a block. They don't have it that often; I think its been almost two years since they last carried it. Happy Monday night, all. JanetMae 06-05-2001, 10:35 AM Hi Linda, sorry you won't be able to make the New Orleans thing, but keep us in mind as we try to plan a get-together with Saara in the upcoming year! Texaslady and I were talking about maybe between Christmas and New Year's, here in Texas, but Saara won't know whether that would fit in with her academic calendar until later. (Did you know that Texaslady, Janet, Carol and I met last March at my house? They are such wonderful ladies; it was such fun to meet "in person"!) Re: my surgery, it's just a hysterectomy; no cancer involved that we know of. Should be back to my old self by the time school starts in mid-August. (Have resigned my office-type job, which ends this week, and am going to teach again; can't wait!) Everyone: if you haven't checked your private messages, I sent one to everyone in this thread a few weeks ago re: New Orleans in September. Everyone is invited, of course, so let me know if the msg didn't come through and I'll resend! Everyone have a great OP Tuesday! Regards, Jan Figgie 06-05-2001, 01:04 PM Gosh, Jan, You sound like a real overcomer in saying that your upcoming surgery is "just a hysterectomy." Bless your heart. Yes, I do know that you, Carol, Texaslady and Janet met for a gettogether some months ago. I so enjoyed looking at the pictures you ladies took of each other! What sweet faces. Congrats on your going back to teaching -- what is it you teach? I'm glad you are so excited about the prospect. texaslady 06-05-2001, 02:36 PM Good afternoon, everyone, from rainy south Texas! We are having the most delightful rain - so far - just coming down softly and slowly. However, there's a big bunch more coming in off the gulf and it may not be as welcome as the current rain is! Weather guys even say it could develop into the first tropical depression of the season. There are flash flood warnings out for late afternoon and tonight - just hope I can get home at 5:00. And it would really be TOO BAD if I couldn't get back into the office tomorrow! But the weather people have been wrong so much and so often, I don't put much belief into their forecasts. Carol - I am so glad that the injection seems to be helping your back pain. I know not much can help your peace of mind until the biopsy is over and the results are in - but I am still sending good vibes and prayers your way. Let us know as soon as you do - OK? It's very clear from your posts how much joy your grandbaby brings to your life. I know that he is a real ray of sunshine for you. Give him a hug for me, too. Jan - Your week-end sounds like so much fun! I assumed, wrongly I guess, that because your surrounding area is less populated that everyone would sort of know everyone and have instant community spirit. However, I guess the fact that people do live farther apart from each other hinders that too. Glad you had an opportunity to get a lot of different folks involved. What was your "theme" that took First Prize?? And this is your last week at this job - Hmmmmm, what have you found "way back in the back" of your desk drawers??? You are so organized, you probably know exactly what is in those drawers and how long it has been there - unlike me, I would have to add! Linda - You certainly are lucky to be living so close to Joyce and her dh and receive the bounty of the fishing expeditions! I wish we had a Trader Joe's here!! I cannot believe we don't have one in a city this size!!!!! Someone is missing a terrific marketing opportunity. Good for you for freezing the cookie dough! I don't think I can make the New Orleans trip either. You may remember that my dd is getting married in late October. Between the wedding and homecoming season, I don't think I am going to be able to swing this trip. But Janet promised she would meet me there another time - maybe you can join us then?? Where are our other girls? Janet? Saara? Patti? Merri? Kendra? Rebecca? Stamps? Liz? Don't leave us now! Come back! Will check in again later. Have a terrific Tuesday - what's left of it, anyway.:) Kudzu 06-05-2001, 05:47 PM HI EVERYONE!! HAPPY TUESDAY!! I'm going to attempt to make a quick post. I tried posting last night, but ended up losing it. So frustrating!! I also experienced one of those joys of perimenapause that we were sharing with Patti...that one about never knowing when something was going to "pop" up. Well, it caught me completely off guard yesterday and now I feel so yuk!! I wish my body would make up its mind! DD has been in Georgia since Sunday on her senior Girl Scout trip. They went on a "haunted" carriage ride through the streets of Savannah last night. She was talking so fast when she called that I could hardly understand her. :D I was glad she was gone yesterday because we experienced some terrible storms. They left thousands of people without power and I passed huge uprooted trees and power lines on my way home. The winds even bent some signs. I didn't realize things had gotten so bad, but it brought back memories of that recent tornado. Jan, thanks for asking about the parking situation. My wonderful boss decided that he didn't want to use his spot (I think he felt bad having one when we didn't) so he graciously offered it to the rest of us to use. Only two of us took him up on his offer (and I really didn't want to use it but he insisted that if we didn't that it would just sit empty). That will mean that I will have an assigned place in the garage for six months out of the year. The rest of the time I can park in the basement if I get to work before 7:30, which isn't bad since that will help me to avoid the morning rush hour traffic. You cracked me up with your "it's ONLY a hysterectomy" comment. I know you will be relieved when it is behind you though. How is your dad feeling? Enjoy your time off!! Carol, you are still in my thoughts and prayers. I still have good feelings about everything, so hang in there. I enjoyed talking to you this past weekend. I also enjoyed hearing about your sweetie's "belly" laugh. I just love being around children...so pure and innocent. Texaslady, that is great that your DD is already settled in her new home. How is your future SIL liking his new job? I don't think you have told us...have you? Oh...and anytime you are ready for that New Orleans trip, just let me know. I think you will be ready for some fun and relaxation after the wedding. I enjoyed your colorful post. I don't have time to "play" right now, but I'm looking forward to experimenting with all the new toys. JOYce, enjoy your time with your mom and sister. Is your mom still enjoying her motorized scooter? Linda, let us know how you cook that fish that Joyce gave you. Do y'all usually grill it? Hi to everyone I missed. I need to get ready to leave for home. We have six elevators in this 15 story building, and they have all but two shut down for people who are moving in this week. I got to ride on the elevator twice yesterday with the Governor. Usually he uses his own private elevator, or they make us get off...but he was probably afraid to say anything yesterday. People were having to wait as long as 20 minutes to get a ride...and they had the stairs blocked off. Go figure?? :?: Have a great night everyone. Janet (Kudzu) Figgie 06-06-2001, 01:57 AM Janet, I almost always bake the fish we get from JOYce's dh, covered in foil. Sometimes I make fish tacos, other times I bake it and serve it cold, later, as a salad or in a sandwich. I too wish you lived closer -- and especially that you could shop at TJ's with me. I found some wonderful smoked gouda there this morning for a macaroni and cheese dish I want to try. That's the bunk you don't have one near you. I'm turning in early tonight -- dd's picking me up at 6:30 tomorrow morning so we can be at the door of our favorite department store when their half-yearly sale begins tomorrow at 7. I am so thrilled to be going together! :D chamois 06-06-2001, 11:18 AM Good Morning Everyone from rainy South Louisiana. I am getting the same rain from the tropical storm that Texas Lady is getting. Don't need floods but we sure could use the rain. I just joined WW on Monday and have better than 80 lbs. to lose. I would love to join your group and share encouragement and support with you. I am a teacher and I am determined to get myself in an excercise and better eating routine before school starts again in August (and takes over my life! :dizzy: ) My major motivation - my son is getting married next June to a "skinny" girl with a "skinny" mom. Don't want to be in those pics the way I am now! :o Beth Kudzu 06-06-2001, 11:40 AM WELCOME BETH! I think you will find all the support and encouragement that you need here. We are a very diverse group...ranging in ages from the 20's up to the...well, let's just say up! :D We have members all over the country, and even have one girl who is in Finland. She will be coming to Utah soon to study. We also have another member in Lousiana (New Orleans) and Texaslady also has a child getting married soon. Her daughter will be married in October...so I think you will find that you have lots in common with most of us in addition to the weight loss. Some of the ladies who post here have lost a significant amount of weight, and they are truly an inspiration to the rest of us. I better get back to work, but I wanted to welcome you. I'm in Mississippi, so I'm sure that we will be getting some of your rain soon. Have a good OP day, and post again soon. Carol, I'm thinking about you girl. Let us know how you are doing as soon as you feel up to it. Janet (Kudzu) texaslady 06-06-2001, 02:01 PM Checking in to see if we had heard from Carol yet - guess not. Beth, welcome to our thread! Yep, I know all about that wedding thing. That's one of the reasons I originally joined WW about 2 years ago - didn't want to be the fattest one in the wedding pictures. I have lost about 75 pounds but almost nothing more in the past 6 months. Its not WW's fault - its mine. My body just totally went into a leveling off period when I reached 200 and I haven't been able to put myself totally back OP again since! I want to lose another 25 pounds before my dd's wedding October 27, but at the rate I am going, its not gonna happen. I just HAVE TO GET IT BACK TOGETHER AGAIN! At least my dd's future mother in law isn't skinny (truth be told she's a little bigger than me!) That would be the worse! So how are the wedding plans going? We are heading into the home stretch - the last six months. I still have to make all the table centerpieces, pew decorations, wrap gifts for wedding party, make the rose petal cones, card box, finish the favors, etc, etc, etc. Guess I need to get cracking. You and Janet are going to get the brunt of all this rain now. It blew through here yesterday afternoon and evening. Some parts of town got 11"+ of rain in just a couple hours - needless to say they were flooded in. I live way out in west Houston so we didn't get as much rain - probably only couple inches - so wasn't a problem for me this time. Janet - Sorry about the uninvited "visitor"! Hopefully it won't be long before that guest just goes away forever. I was so grateful when it happened for me. Joyce - You should be back from your visit today. Tell us how everyone is doing. Jan - I know you are busy with your last week at this job. But think how much fun it will be next week when you don't have to go into the office everyday!! Tell you dad and dh Hi for me! Hope your Dad is continuing to do well. Linda - How did the shopping go? What did you buy? I really need to get out and buy some new work clothes. I feel like I wear the same 5 outfits every week! - probably because that's not far from the truth! I notice a lot of your posts are late at night - or early morning. I can't tell if you are just a night owl or if its the time difference between central and pacific zones! If I am not in bed by 10 p.m. (sometimes earlier than that!), I can't haul my bones out the next morning at 5:30! Gotta go, girls. Will be checking in through the day to see if Carol comes on with any news. Rymsh 06-06-2001, 02:14 PM Hi ladies! Happy Hump Day! First of all, I'd like to welcome Beth It's always great to have a new member! Do you have other children (aside from the son who will marry next year)? What subject/grade do you teach? Re my biopsy this morning: to make a long story short, after an hour on the table with various computerized digital mammograms he discovered he couldn't get what he needed to with this type of biopsy procedure. So I have to have an open surgical biopsy. He'll call me tomorrow to let me know when. Other than to say it didn't make my day, I'll leave it there.:( Jan , it sounds like you had a really busy weekend!!!! Thanks for the thoughts and prayers- be assured I'm returning the favor for your "only";) surgery on June 27th! My little  says the usual hi-bye-mommy-daddy- "gamma"", plus Tigger, cookie cracker, "do it", dog, and the eye-ear-"ose" trilogy. It's fun- always something new that we hadn't heard before coming out. And so far, all of it repeatable in mixed company! Linda , there's a series of 3 epidural steroid injections, at 1-2 week intervals. I too Love Trader Joe's- don't know how I lived without it. Does yours have Milton's(I think) Healthy Multigrain bread? Ours just started carrying it, and it's wonderful!!I haven't tried the buffalo meat yet- maybe later!:) How was the half yearly sale? What all did you buy? Texaslady , it sounds like Houston has a mess yesterday and today!!! Are things ok where you are??? How was the commute? Janet it sounds like your dd had a great time on her Girl Scout trip!! I'd never be able to take a haunted anything ride- I'd be sleepless for weeks afterwards! Ladies, I need to run- hi to everyone I missed. Have a good evening, everyone. Carol Rymsh 06-06-2001, 02:21 PM Texaslady , we were posting at the same time!! Maybe you and I can motivate each other for the last 20-25 pounds- I'm kind of stuck at this -97 pound spot. Not that a 97 pound loss isn't great- it's just not where I ultimately want to be! I just found an awful before picture of myself- talk about an incentive!! Carol texaslady 06-06-2001, 04:42 PM Carol - I am so sorry to hear that the dr. couldn't take care of business today! Just one more obstacle thrown in your path! And, of course, I am sure you aren't thrilled about the surgery - or the wait!!! You have had so much on your plate right now (no pun intended!), I can certainly understand how your motivation to stay OP has fluctuated. Unfortunately, I don't really have any excuse!! We have both done so well with our losses! We know we can finish this journey!!! Let's try real hard to get started again and put one foot in front of another til we are done! Can't stay. Just checking on you. Sorry you couldn't get it over with just yet. Still sending prayers your way. merri24 06-06-2001, 08:34 PM Hi all... Well, I had weigh in today and I lost 3 pounds - SWEET!!!! :D ...... I have to admit I was evil last night too I went to California Kitchen and I ate the worst things - pizza and cheesecake...... Rymsh ... That is amazing 97 pounds if I ever could get there!!! How long did it take you?? I'm sure you'll lose the last 20 pounds no problem.... I think coming on here helps me to be more disciplined w/weight watchers... Hopefully I can stay motivated and be like you rymsh... I'll chat more later.... Need to run some errands.... Merri 236/209/130 chamois 06-06-2001, 11:28 PM Thank you for the warm welcome. I am happy to be a part of such a nice group of ladies. :) Carol - God has blessed me with two wonderful sons. The one getting married next year is 22 and the other is 20. I teach 5th grade special education. I love what I do but I am soooooooo glad school is out! Teaching is a very stressful job.:dizzy: Sorry to hear about your health problems. I'll keep you in my prayers. A couple of years ago my sister went through a biopsy and the doctor was "sure" that it was malignant. She went into surgery thinking she would wake up with one less breast. When she woke up the doctor told her it was benign and all he took out was the lump. Keep the faith! Texaslady - My son and his fiance live in Clear Lake (not too far from you but on the southeast side of Houston). I called them yesterday when I heard about the tropical storm. They said they had a hard time getting around with the flooded streets. We had some flooding here too in the New Orleans area. Only 25 lbs. to lose? Sounds like with all that work you need to do before the wedding you should lose that and more! :spin: Janet - Where in Mississippi do you live? Also, who in the group lives in New Orleans. I live in St. Tammany Parish just north of the Lake from New Orleans. I just got finished cooking 300 shrimp and crab patties and a quart of hollandaise sauce (nothing but PURE fat!) My husband's company is participating in a food fest in New Orleans tomorrow and I was "volunteered" to cook and serve. I ate a couple of the patties with a small spoon of sauce (and counted the points :) ). Now the trick will be to get through tomorrow without eating everything in sight. I am bringing a salad and fruit and plan to eat only what I bring. Hope I make it through! Beth  gmalil 06-07-2001, 01:27 AM Well, I suppose I should start #65, but Jan and Carol do that so well...I'll let one of them.. I got home this afternoon... had a great visit with Mother, she loves her motorized scooter, and handles it quite well. She told me this morning that she know that she is in the right place for her....I am so glad that she reached that conclusion! It is a really nice facility, and she gets lots of attention and good care! My sis is doing really good too! But now home and into the graduation frenzy!! :dizzy: {{{{{Carol,}}}}} I'm so sorry that you have to have surgery, and go thru all the anticipation!!! You continue to be in my prayers! I hope the back is feeling better. Jan, I have never been sorry that I had the surgery that you will have! It's been about 15 yrs ago. Keep us posted. You should be feeling great by the time we get to New Orleans! Welcome Beth! gotta go! Joyce Rymsh 06-07-2001, 03:53 AM I'll start another thread- come on over to #65 everyone!
