Sorry, but what is PCO?
I start Phase one for the second time tomorrow, so I will jump on the badwagon with the June 1sters :) (decided not to postpone til the 1st).
I will keep you up to date on what I am going through but from what I remember, the cravings for the first 3 days are bad. But you get over them. I remember feeling full, IF you drink enough water (at least 64 oz a day, not including other beverages).
I am going to try to get to the gym, if not walk this time. Last time I was sooo very tired from lack of sugar.
Make sure you eat enough too!!!

I edited your title so we don't have more than one Phase I start per week. Pity the poor MODs who try to read every post!
My biggest hint is to READ the revised food lists in the FAQ Section, NOT in the book.

Thanks for the replies!!!
@jenne1017
PCO stands for PolyCystic Ovaries or polycystic ovarian syndrome. It's very similar to diabetes, but it only effects women. It's a mixture of things...insuline resistance, hormone imbalance, acne, thinning hair, etc....but main thing it can lead to infertility. Some women have cyst on their ovaries and some don't (I don't thank goodness!) My doctor(and what I've read) say the best way to control the PCO is to lose weight on a low carb diet.
-Also, thanks for the tips! I pray I can make it thru this time. I tried it about 1 month ago for 1 DAY!!! I couldn't do it!!! I was so HUNGRY!! But I'm more determined to try it now though. I went to Lane Bryant for the last time last Friday. I don't EVER want to step foot in that store AGAIN!! Hope you keep me posted and I'll post and let you know how things go for me too!!
@Ruthxxx
Thanks for editing my title and for the suggestion.
Talk with you all soon!

I thought I was going to start PH.1 last weekend and til now (as I am typing this) but I forgot that I had already made plans for the Memorial Day weekend.
I am with you on this round of PHASE 1.
I just thought of a question, tho. Laurie mentioned beans as being a good way to help with constipation. Will canned refried beans (natural, no artificial added ingredients) work, or does it need to be whole beans??
Thanks to anyone who may be able to shed some insight into this.

well, I started a day late but am on track, sorta. I didn't eat breakfast as,well, we were detered from food shopping yesterday.
We got a kitty!! (I will post a pic in the pet thread), so we've been a bit stressed getting them both to get along.
We're actually going to nap now. Then get up, do laundry and go for a walk.
ANyway, I didn't eat breakfast, but had a cheese stick and a huge salad for lunch. Got in 24 oz of water so far, hummus and peppers for afternoon snack and taco bake for dinner.
Thank goodness there are no BBQ's!
How are you all doing out there???

I hope you have success on Phase 1. I tried it a couple of weeks ago, but I couldn't stick with it! But now that I've found this msg board and found different food ideas for Phase 1, I probably won't get bored and give up so easily this time! I'm TIRED of my FAT!!!! I want it GONE! :D
I hope we can keep in touch with our success stories!
Everyone...have a safe and happy Memorial
Day!!

Planning is Key!
Yesterday I went food shopping and today I just spent three hours preparing a bunch of food for the week.
I made a caramel cheesecake (skim milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, splenda, Davinci SF caramel syrup, and gelatine); cauliflower "potato" salad, tuna salad, hummus dip, spinach quiche, blanched broccoli, onion dip, and a bunch of cut up veggies. That should hold me over a while.

A Broad, refried beans are the same as the regular for fibre - just mashed up. I know you will be careful to NOT get the ones with added fat, especially lard! I just pitch a can of beans into my wee processor, add chili powder and a bit of salsa and zap!

Hey! Unfortunately I wasn't able to start today. I was running late for work this morning so I stopped by mcdonald's and grabbed breakfast. And, since I was running late this morning, I forgot my lunch, so I went to mcdonald's again! So tomorrow should be a much better day. I'll let you guys know how my actual 1st day goes!

Hi, everyone! I plan to start Ph. 1 tomorrow with the rest of you. Just got back from the grocery store. Hopefully I have enough different foods in the house now to keep me on plan!! ;)
I wondered if anyone on this board has ever done the Carb. Addicts diet? I was reading a little about it on another site and have requested the book from my library but don't expect to get it for a week or so. I decided to go ahead with SB for now, at least until I find out more about CAD. If any of you have ever tried it, what did you think? How does it compare to SB?
Have a great day, all. I'll try to post again tomorrow!
:smug: Oh, yeah, my other goal is to get up and get some exercise every day!! So far, so good today!!
God Bless,
Britte

Welcome to The Beach, Britte.
CAD and SBD are very different. CAD is basically no carb except for your "reward" meal which has several rules about proportions. Sugar and white flour are allowed on CAD. South Beach allows good carbs and good fats during all meals. You do not go into ketosis and your blood sugar levels stay even throughout the day. Please be sure to follow the revised food list in the FAQ Section, NOT the list in the Book.
For more info, please see the section on different diets on the 3FC Home page.

Ruth, Thanks for the reply! That link was really informative. I didn't find anything there about the CAD, but read about lots of other options. One thing that someone wrote on one of those is that the most important thing about picking a diet plan, is picking a plan that YOU can stick with long term. That really caught my attention. I'm not sure if I can go "low carb" long term, realistically. I think I'll still read the CAD book, but I'm going to have to do a little more soul searching before I decide which plan to use. I really want this to work!!
Thanks again!

I did CAD a few years ago. It seemed much healthier at the time than Atkins but it still allowed too many bad fats. SBD is MUCH healthier and seems to be less of a diet and more of a reasonable way that everyone really should eat.

Negatives are Good!
Its the morning of day 3 for me. So far - NOT hungry, NO cravings, NO deviation, NO aches of the head or body (but I didn't have them the first time around either) - NO problem.

Well, I did phase 1, just started phase 2 - went away on a camping trip for memorial day weekend and I'm back to phase 1 again. I think I'll just do it 7-10 days to get my body back in balance. What happened was this: I packed nothing but appropriate foods for the entire trip - lots of lean meat and veggies for the grill, some trail mix, a little wild rice and a couple apples, low fat cheese, eggs, the usual proper stuff. I was determined to stay with it - having lost 6 pounds in the 2-3 weeks on Phase 1. Well -- all my plans and intentions couldn't account for the neighbors at the camp site. The couple across from us were very friendly - and Italian - and the bubbly friendly lady over there kept showing up with stuff she'd brought too much of. I swear, she was BAKING over there in her RV. First it was chocolate cake, then it was strawberry shortcake, then it was macaroni salad... you get the picture. I tried SO HARD to resist but when you're in vacation mode - well, my will power crumbled :) Then my nephews came to the camp to see me - and you know little boys and toasted marshmallows.
When we got home, exhausted, tired, and starving, there was only ONE THING on my mind that sounded good for dinner. Pizza! Something I haven't had in 2-3 years (I'm also allergic to wheat - did I mention? Ack). Well - I rationalized - you are going to have to go back to the beach Tuesday so go for it.
I was Sooooooo sick eating that pizza that I had a hangover the next day.
So - now I'm back and I'm going to try to use my experiences as lessons next time I'm confronted with homemade freshly baked chocolate cake with chocolate icing.
Thankfully, my holiday weekend binge didn't cause any weight gain ...

Welcome back Tia!!
Day 5 is going well for me. No headaches or emotional disturbances  since Day 3. I did get on the scale this AM (even though I said I wouldn't) and I was still down, but not where I wanted to be.
Last time I was on Ph1, I dropped 13 pounds. I'd kill for 7, making me the lowest thus far in my LC career. But, I also remember I lost the most weight my first week. So, while my hopes are high, reality is telling me otherwise. That's why I made 6 pounds my goal for the month!
Happy Thursday all!

How are all you doing?
Me? I am a bit disappointed. Only lost 2 lbs this week. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong, but again, I should count my 6 pounds on the ALMOST South Beach as a loss too.
MUST. GET. TO. THE. GYM. TODAY!!!!
How are all of you?

I started the week feeling (actually) bloated and it never went away because TOM was here also. For the weekend I had to fight off a massive appetite and a few cravings, but I'm still on plan, even tho yesterday I had too many nuts. Tomorrow will be day 7, half way! A friend gave me the SBD cookbook and I've been looking for new recipes to make for some changes.
I'm still hanging in there. Anybody else?

I am working on day 8. I started last Saturday. Today is the only day I have been hungry. Coulda been from me skipping my AM snack. I had mock belgian waffles(made pancakes though) and they were wonderful and that was at about 930. Had a big salad with lots of veggies and 1/2 can of chicken about 200. I had a cheesestick for my pm snack about 400. But have been hungry. Cooking grilled chicken and veggies for supper shortly. YUM! (Me loves grilled chicken)
How's everyone else doing???

I didn't Wenchy :( Maybe sometime this week. HB was sick after we saw our movie and so we came home and I took care of her (it's her TOM).
Let's see -- today's menu:
mock FT pancake scramble, soynuts (YUCK!!!!!), about 45 oz of water, a tub of Diet Coke at the movie (my treat and thank goodness -- I needed SOMETHING to wash those YUCKY Soynuts down with), some 98%FF pastrami, 2 slice of FF cheese, some olives and 1/2 cucumber for lunch. I wasn't hungry for dinner but ate a salad with peppers, cucumber, some blue cheese and yogurt with some Jello for dessert.
I did go grocery shopping so that's an accomplishment :)
