Good Monday Morning Everyone!

I hope you all enjoyed your weekend and for those of you who are lucky to be off of work today, I hope you are enjoying your extended weekend!!!

Today is MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY and here's my contribution (I think it's a great one!):

http://members.aol.com/debelli/monday_morning_thought.jpg

SO DO IT

Do what needs to be done. Say what needs to be said. Listen to the things you need to hear. Learn what you need to learn. Explain what you need to explain.

Rather than constructing elaborate methods for avoiding these things, or elaborate excuses to evade them, just get them done. Instead of letting things slip and continue to weight you down, get them done and let your actions energize you. The avoidance of effort is just as difficult as effort itself yet avoidance accomplishes nothing positive.

Success is not always easy, yet it is for the most part simple. The way to accomplishment is not hidden. It is in plain view. You can see what must be done. Stop fretting. Quit worrying. Don't complain. You know what you need to do. So do it.

-- Ralph Marston

I'm going up to Sharon's today, so I'll be gone most of the day. Kids are with their Dad and Eli is working til this evening, so thought it would be a nice day to go up her way. I'll check in with you all sometime this evening!

Please try to be at TOMORROW NIGHT'S CHAT at 9:15PM EST I'm going to a dinner for the board members that I'm on, at 7pm, but think I should be home in time, if not, start without me and hopefully I'll get home before everyone is gone.

I'm going to go get ready for my walk, haven't checked the weather yet, so hoping it's not looking like rain out there!

Have a wonderful day, and a great week!!

Happ Memorial Day!

This will really be short...

Here's my Motivational Thought for today:

good morning everyone!

I just finished reading more of the posts.

Star: I'm sorry to hear about your pet. I remember when we had to put down our Barney. We had him for 14 years. It was very sad. My prayers are with you.

Karen: Hope you feel better soon.

Just weighed again. Down to 274.5 (another 1.5 pounds and I'll be back to my lowest)

Have a great day with your family and remember those who gave their life for us in order for us to be able to enjoy this day and everyday.

Good Morning....or is it? I woke up to a very Debbie ccoking story. My kids LOVE beef jerky. It's so darn expensive!!!!! Everyone in my fam has told me how easy it is to make it. I bought some nice tri-tip, marinated it all day yesterday in a teriyaki/giner marinade, and then cooked it just like they told me to in a 200 degree oven overnight. I woke up at 5:00am, came out to the kitchen, pulled it from the over, and low and behold, it looked [i]different. I said, that's o.k....maybe the sauce just got a little crispy, and got a spatula and scaped the little guys up from the depths of over ****. Yes, that's right. BURNT with a capital "B". At least Floyd the dog won't refuse it ! :D

Debs
The blueberry muffins came out o.k. I used the recipe that calls for bran and something else healthy which I didn't have on hand, and they came out pretty good. The flavor is fine, but they are a little on the dry side. I have a recipe of my own that I'm going to see about converting. Sparkle also posted a recipe for "mini-blueberry muffins", but I don't have a "mini-muffin tin". I'll have to compare ingredients.

BOB
If you are lurking...I broke out the atlas in your honor. Did you say Athens and Macon????? I'm confused, because if your destination was Macon, and you were coming up from Fl. Athens is WAY off the beatenpath!
Does Skeeter like crispified teriyaki jerky? Him anf Floyd could share the plate!

What's that noise???? Is it the sound of my House blend finishing up brewing. I'm like a sleep walker with my arms straight out saying "MUST HAVE COFFEE".

Just got in from my walk. Decided to go out despite the lite raindrops that were falling. Replaced my water bottle with my mini-umbrella in my fanny pack just in case. Rains stayed away thank goodness. Now, I sit here trying to cool down as I profusely sweat!

ICESKATE, thanks for posting that motivational thought!

CHERI, that's great you re so close to being back where you were-keep focused!! Thanks for reminding us to keep in mind those who served out country for us during this Memorial Day!

NANCE, those probably were the muffins I mentioned. Maybe a bit more agave nectar or something to make them a bit more moist-sorry about that!;)

Time to hit the showers!

A good, quiet weekend for me. I needed that after the past few months. Also a good OP weekend for me. I'm down another two pounds to 245--A NEW LOW!!!!!

My motivational thought for today is a bit off the beaten path. But I have a great aunt who is celebrating her 103rd birthday today (yup--you read that right). She is mobile and alert and does 50-100 situps everymorning before she gets out of bed. If there is anyone who is a testament about what physical exercise will do--my aunt is it. She did Yoga for years (though if I'm not mistaken she didn't begin until she was in her 60's). She has only just begun using a walker--sometimes. She has traveled around the world many times. When she celebrated her 100th birthday three years ago, friends and family came from all over the world to help her celebrate. Again, she didn't begin her travels until after raising her familyand becoming a grandmother. Her motto is "Any money not spent on travel is wasted."

Now I'm not saying you should adopt her motto. But she had a dream to see the world and she made it come true--and she did it fairly late in life (although in retrospect it turns out that her 60s were more like middle aged for her!).

What is your dream? What would it take to make your dream come true? Even if it is something you can't accomplish in one day, what is the one thing you can do TODAY as a first step in making that dream come true? A lot of little steps will make that big dream a reality and we owe it to ourselves to make our dreams a reality.

I know most of us on this board are united by a dream of a healthier lifestyle. We can take positive steps to make this dream come true every single day. Let's do it for ourselves! What other dreams do you have? To change careers? To travel? To write? Whatever it is take one step today to bring that dream closer to reality.

BOB--I laughed reading about your travels. Where are you in SC? I want to know where that lowcard store is as I pass through SC frequently in my travels and I have a lot of family in the Greenville/Anderson area.

Deb: Thanks for today's motivational tip--I'm bad about putting things off and letting them weigh me down (literally as well as figuratively).

SEF--Welcome. I know what you mean about getting stuck in commitment to the WOE. I floundered there for most of January and February--then go recommitted and have lost 15 lbs since then. I find that rereading the book every few weeks helps me tremendously as I forget all the damage that the wrong type of carbohydrates causes to my body.

Cheri--Way to go! Keep it up and you will surpass the old low and hit a new one soon.

I hope every one has a good Memorial Day holiday (not widely celebrated in Alabama since many folks around here still think of it as a Yankee holiday).

Just wanted o say Hi! and thanks for the welcome.

I have been reading posts trying to get a feel for the board.

My typing is not too good, I am among the walking wounded.

My cat, Bear is a huge long haired monster that hates to be brushed, but needs it. Last night I was brushing him and did it too long. He attacked the brush w/ my hand holding it. Hit a vein, I was a bloody mess!

This a.m. hand is puffy and the only digits that really work w/o pain are thumb and index.

I am trying to cut down (or out) carbs to see if that will help me get back to losing. I hate sitting on this plateau.

What a lazy day!!!! It's 11:30 and I'm still in my bathrobe! My DH and I worked so hard on Sat/Sun, we have decided to be bums today! Feels great! We are going over to my Moms for a swim and then over to some friends for a BBQ. Glad someone else is doing the cooking for a change!

Fillise
Congratulations on your new low! You must be so proud of yourself! I can't imagine getting 50 plus pounds off!!!!! I want to be there so bad with you! I've been up and down with my weight this past week.
Not 100% on track. I originally read the book from the library, and I agree, I think I need it and need to make it my bible! I haven't been exercising either, so when I don't loose, it's really no surprise! When I was on track 100%, I could count on being down 1.5 pounds a week, and if I actually exercised on top of that, I would most likely be down more! That's so neat about Grams! That is such an inspiration! I read a really need article about cenitarians from the far east, and what they did to contribute to their longevity. To sum it up, ate a lot of fish and vegetables, and kept active!

SEF
Too bad about your hand! It your tetanus up to date? If not you might want to see your doctor, and you might possibly need some antibiotics. Animal bites can cause infection sometimes too, so just keep an eye on it! Tell Bear that he's going to get a bath if he doesn't behave himself!

Well...to the pool! Check in on the board later!

Are you kidding!!!!????!!! If I tried to give that darn cat a bath, he'd make shredded sef of me!! He's a 15# monster. Maybe he needs SB!

Fillise - You must be one terrific "stick to it" lady. You deserve a round of applause! Hear us all clapping?

Ashley - My lady of the Poconos, (I do miss those beautiful mountains). How do you make SGWW pizza. Just use WW flour in place of white? I love pizza. To be legal I make it with a macaroni crust.

Thanx for advice on hand. Think my tetanus is ok. Hand not imflamed just sore at this point.

Hello Everybody!!!! Despite it being a wet and very chilly weekend, it was great to be off and relax. We had to put a fire in the fire place on two nights just to take off the chill. Can you imagine that???? It’s almost June. I fear we may be wearing tank tops in November at this rate!!!!

Did anybody watch the documentary on NBC last night about Pearl Harbor? Wow!!! What those people went through!!! I sure didn't realize before the devastation and the sacrifice and the loss. I send up a word of honor and gratitude to all who have served our country.

FILLISE---Here’s a BIG woooooo-hooooooo and a happy birthday to your aunt. What a wonderful, wonderful inspiration!!!!! How great it must be for you to see her living her life to the fullest and achieving her dreams. Please send my highest and best regards to her and can’t wait to hear how she’s planning on celebrating number 104. (Plus I’m really excited to hear that she is a fellow yogi . . . I want to grow up and be just like her!!!!!) Thanks for sharing that. Her story really is fantastic and such a blessing to us all.

SEF---Sorry to hear about your hand. Hope it’s better real soon. That must hurt like crazy. But don’t worry about typos . . . my hands are fine and my messages are always full of typos. Some people (you all know who you are!!!) like to point them out and make fun of me. Ha!!! So peck away and we’ll get your meaning.

DEB---You are too funny!!!! I LOL at the part about dogs (and even mosquitoes) avoiding your butt. Same goes for me. I have been sweating like crazy during these workouts and I LOVE the way that feels. I’m now home from my weekend at my bros. Me and Maddie crashed big time and took power naps this afternoon. I just talked to Paul a little bit ago and he was in Terre Haute so he should be home before dark. I really miss him like crazy and can’t wait to see him. Of course, as soon as he walks through the door, he’ll probably say something to piss me off and then I’ll forget about missing him so much. Ha!!!! Ah married life!!!!! Hey, in this book The Body Code, the guy refers to the Powerbelt walking products and has their 800 number listed in the back. However, I haven’t found where it is listed in the book. I’ll be interested to see what he says. But he must like it or he wouldn’t have it listed in his resource info in the back. Cool, huh???

Hey GATOR . . . you haven’t shared with me how much you love your new IMAC. Come on, as a fellow Apple girl, I want to know how it’s running for you. I’m considering getting the new I-Book. The idea of a laptop sounds like fun to me. Let me know what you think of yours.

Okay, here’s my motivational Monday . . . it may be a bit long, but thought it spoke VOLUMES to me. Enjoy if you have the time to read it all. It’s from Bob Greene in “Make the Connection.”

There are two concepts I want to introduce to you. They go hand-in-hand with daily renewal. They are 1. Living in the moment. 2 Finding joy in your life. . . . .I believe that without incorporating these two concepts into your day and your life, you will have a difficult time maintaining any results you achieve. More important, I can’t imagine a fulfilling life without the feeling of living in the moment and experiencing true joy. . . . . . When I first began working with people who wanted to lose weight or needed to improve their health for medical reasons, I never mentioned these concepts. I did, however, notice that all the people I worked with were preoccupied with either the past or the future. They never seemed to experience the present. Looking back, I realize that most of these people were never joyful. The two concepts are related. It is much easier to experience true joy when you learn to live “in the moment.” . . . . I also remember a time in my life when many wonderful things would happen, but I never took the time to appreciate them. Instead, I was always so focused on the future. I thought by doing that, more of these great things would, happen. Now I realize, what’s the point of good things in your life if they are never recognized or appreciated as they happen? . . . . Only after I experienced living in the moment was I able to experience true joy. How could I have been so preoccupied before? I wondered. I began questioning why most people focus on either the past or the future, when their entire life is lived in the present. I had to ask myself why I was always thinking of the future. The answer in all instances was that there was discontent with something about the present. That discontent was what made me obsess about improving my future. So in a sense, I was sacrificing my present for my future, not realizing that the future never really arrives. It’s always the future! I decided from that day on that I was going to experience as many current moments as I could. Soon after that I began experiencing the present moment on a regular basis, and true joy often followed. This has changed my life.

That’s it for me. Here’s hoping we all have some terrific “living in the moment” moments this week. Make yourself a great week!!!!
Take care.
Kim

Hi everyone :)

I've been feeling a little ticked off lately. I was down two pounds last week but it's been fluctuating between 198 and 200 for the last several days. I know this always happens but I am still a little peeved that it won't stay down. It's taken me long enough to lose that little bit, I wonder if I am doomed to stay at this weight for ever. I did go a little off plan on the weekend. I wolfed down TWO donuts while watching a movie I had rented. I don't know what got into me that day. I'm frequently in the donut shop picking up a coffee and I'm not bothered by the donuts but this day I just had to have'em. I saw SECRETS AND LIES which someone here had recommended and really enjoyed it. I went for a walk this morning. No idea how far, probably no more than a mile. I had left my car in the garage for maintenance and didn't feel like sitting around for a couple of hours so took myself off for a walk to the shopping mall. The weather was dull and overcast all morning then just when I left the mall to return to the garage the rains came down. So I got quite a soaking even though I had my umbrella with me. I should get in a lot of walking while I am away as I will probably be using public transportation quite a bit. I'll be taking my running shoes with me for sure.

Kim - I'm glad to see you back. I missed your posts while you were away. I'm glad you decided to stay with SB. I know it is frustrating when you are not losing. The only thing that keeps me on track is I absolutely don't want to gain back what I have lost.

Starchaser - Sorry to hear about Bogart. Although I have never had a dog I can understand that he was like one of the family and you will miss him terribly. My thoughts are with you.

Deb - I can really relate to your Motivational post to-day. It is so true. There's been many a time when I have spent more energy thinking about doing a task than what it takes to complete that task.

Snooks - Welcome to the board. I'm from the UK but it has been over thirty years since I have lived there so I won't be much help with products from there. The main thing with packaged and canned goods is to check and see how much sugar there is per serving. Up to 3 grms per serving is allowable. Deb posted some information recently about HEINZ baked beans. Apparently they make some without added sugar which are available in the UK ONLY (hope I got that right Deb). A few things I like to snack on are grapes, an orange or apple with a piece of cheese, Triscuits, Finn Crisp, Kavli Crispbread (the last two are similar to Ryvita) with cream cheese and/or fruit spread, dried apricots. I'm going to the UK for a holiday soon - I leave on the 5th June for two weeks. I'll be staying with family in Slough and South London. What part of the country are you from?

Fillise - Your aunt sounds like a wonderful person. Thanks for sharing the story with us. And congrats on the loss.

Nancemeister - Hope you enjoy the swim and the barbecue. Isn't it good to have someone else do the cooking for a change.

Rhroo - It doesn't sound like your day was too boring. It sounds more like a busy one, with the walking and the shopping. It's good to hear that you are so committed to the exercises. I wish I could say the same. I've really been slacking lately. Maybe after my holiday I will get back into it again.

Sef - Sorry to hear about your hand. I hope it is better soon.

Cheri45 - Glad to hear you are almost down to your lowest again.

Well, I have a pile of dishes in the sink so I had better move my butt and get on with them.

Will check in again later. I may not be posting much this week but I will be lurking. I have a busy week ahead. I'll be working right up until Sunday, except for a day off on Thursday. Then off Monday and away on Tuesday. I'm beginning the count down to my vacation.

Bye

Marie.

Evening Everyone:wave:

Had a nice day out with Sharon, leisure day, really didn't do much, and lots of places we wanted to go were closed. Tried to go to the movies, what a dumb thought, it was packed, so we just mosied on back to her house.

Got a call from my Mom, that my Father was in the hospital. He walks every day, and the other day he felt a cramp in his leg-this was while on vacation-they just got home last night. Anyhow, this morning, he went for his usual walk and came home (he goes out at 4am so he can be at work by 6am) and asked my Mom to take him to the hospital. Since he works at one (he's a pharmacist) she thought he missed the bus he takes, but he was having trouble breathing and knew something was wrong. Anyhow, to make a long story short, they found 3 blood clots in his lungs, so he's in CCU for the next 3-4 days. I just got home from taking the kids to see him and he looks great actually, but they have IV's and oxygen going up his nose-I would never think this would happen to him, he exercises a lot, so he's pretty fit, or so we thought. Anyhow, just thought I'd share this little bit of upheavel in my life.

Thought I'd share this interesting bit of info with you...as many of you know, I have been using the Weight Commander Program for over a year now and keep track of my weight as well as other aspects of my daily weight loss life. I am the same weight today as I was 30 days ago AND 60 days ago! Go figure!

CATLOVER, thanks for that great motivational thought-I love RM's words-what insight!

FILLISE, WOO HOO! You got girl! That's awesome news!!!! CONGRATS! Your Aunt sounds like an amazing woman! I love to hear about elders who are still going strong. My Great-Grandfather lived to be 105 and had his wits about him til the end, didn't have his eyesight though, but was quick as a whip! I loved the message behind your story-great motivational words!!!

SEF, OUCH! Sounds like a nasty scratch you got there from the fur ball! Please make sure if your hand isn't better by tomorrow you'll get it looked at. Don't be like STARCHASER and wait. How many carbs, on average are you taking in? How long have you been on this plateau? I wouldn't cut out carbs completely, but I'm sure we can figure out how we can help you start moving down again. Why don't you post a menu for tomorrow on the board, it usually seems to help see what you are eating. I've been on many a plateau (read above as well), and I can tell you, patience will be rewarded. Sometimes, our bodies just need a little time to get adjusted. As long as you know you are doing everything right, you will start to lose again!:)

OVERCOME, MAYBE since it was SB legal, you won't have too much of a reaction from too much pizza. Have you posted the recipe for the crust on the board?

RHROO, great going on the 4 miles! Glad you were able to find a suit, I'm sure you look great in it! The only suit I could ever think of wearing that would hide all my problem spots would be a wet-suit!!!

QUILTER, a fireplace-just the thought of that makes me wish I was with you! It's sooo hot here! Please do tell me what the guy says about the Powerbelt, I'd be interested in knowing. The owner sent me copies of different info on it that was in magazines in the past and PREVENTION gave it a wonderful rating! I know it works, and I love mine:) Thanks for the motivational thought!! Enjoy Paul when he gets home!!!;)

MARIE, I'm sure the scale hasn't reflected those 2 donuts-it's probably just normal fluctuations-look at me, I know it's not from what I've been eating! I hope you know that we're going to miss you while you are gone!!

Gotta go, will check in with you all tomorrow morning (if not later tonight).

Again, please remember TOMORROW NIGHTS CHAT AT 9:15PM EST I will post the link to the SB CHAT ROOM tomorrow!

Have a good one!

DEB---Just wanted to let you know that I'll be saying prayers for you dad's speedy recovery. Thank goodness he listened to his body when it was telling him there was something wrong. How good that they found the clots now before they started moving to his heart. Someone that active is going to get intense cabin fever if he has to stay in the hospital for long. I sure do hope he's better soon and back to his usual healthy lifestyle. Also, I loved your motivational thoughts today. I need to hear that all the time. I'm still reading the Body Zone and will let you know what's said about the Powerbelt equipment.

ROSALIE---Good to hear from you. Yes, I'm glad to be back. Have you gone to England yet? Let me know what your schedule is on that. I'll be sending good thoughts your way for a safe and beautiful trip. I'm sorry the weight loss is getting you down. I have been in that same boat and know it's NO FUN!!! Just keep doing what you know is healthy and watch to see if your measurements are changing. Maybe the pounds are staying the same but you might be losing inches. I've decided to avoid the scales for a while and just concentrate on these size 16 jeans I have that I'm desperate to get into. (My size 18's have a little whole in the backside and I don't especially want to expose my you-know-what.) Once I can get the 16's on, zipped and can sit down and breathe at the same time, I will get on the scales to see where I am. But not a minute sooner. Also, I LOVED Secrets and Lies!!!! Wasn't it GREAT????? I adore Brenda Blethen (spelled wrong, I know) and that other woman I think her name is Marianne Jean-Baptiste. She was amazing in it. When she was in the records office reading all the info about her birth . . . I swear I could feel all the emotions running through her head. And I'm not even adopted. I've got another recommendation for you . . . Cookie's Fortune. It's awesome!!! Set in US in the south and really well done. A wonderful cast and brilliant acting. Just watched it again this weekend and really enjoyed it the second time through.

Well, that's it for tonight. Paul is home and he's winding down from his trip. Want to spend some quality time with him. Must say one more thing: wasn't really scheduled to do the TM tonight, but got on anyways. And did 38 minutes with one 2-minute run and one that was less than a minute. Yippee. I love the power I feel after being able to actually move my behind in a run for 2 minutes. It's a good thing.

Take care.

Just checking in...I'm back to my long stretch at work, worked all week end (12 hr shifts), 8 today, 2 more 12's Tues & Wed, then my final 8 hrs Thurs....then it's VACATION TIME!. But first things first, huh? OK, I could not get enough time to sit at the puter & read so I copied & pasted a printable version of the messages into WordPad last night & printed it out. Things were a little slow at work today so I was able to read evrything! I really miss it when I'm out of touch with all of you. I made a few notes & will try to respond to some. Sorry, I just don't have the time to really respond as I would like.

First of all... Solshine how sweet of you to want to arrange a face-to-face meeting. I really would like that. We are planning to drive to Orlando, but I'm not sure yet which day it will be. I saw you posted your email, so I will email you when I finish posting this message & give you the phone # to reach me in New Smyrna Beach. Maybe we can work something out.

VIV, WOW, you're a celeberty! LOL... Really, I think that's great that you had the opportunity to have that interview. Can't wait to read it. Glad to hear that your dad is mending well. Sure hope he has a positive experience with the Rehab. We have Albertson's chain here in LA also. Will check out their SB ice cream the next time I'm there.

SPARKLESCAMP, Hope your date & week end of camping went well.

OVERCOME,I have also had the breast pains, & agree with others here that caffiene seems to be the biggest culprit.

Debbie Very informative Fri Fit Facts obout the oils. I use primarily olive oil now, but never can remember which one is best to use for the different things like salad, etc. I copied that post to keep handy. Thanks again for chatting with me this evening. oh, debbie....just read your post about your dad!! hope all will be ok. Will keep you all in my thoughts & prayers.

StarChaser, Sorry to hear your sad news about Bogart. I know that you will surely miss him. Hope your foot is doing better. Take care of yourself!

Nancemeister, 107 degrees?? OMG ... it must be hard to breathe in temperatures that high. What will the summer heat do to ya??

GATORGAL, Sounds like you have been a real

BOB, Hope you find your way back from Atlanta ok! Don't take anymore seanic routes, ok??? LOL Wouldn't want to get back from vacation & learn that your wagon got lost!! :D

SEF]/b] Welcome to the board! I'm one of the LA gals Debbie told you was on this board. Hope to get to know you. Haven't had time to read your BIO yet, but plan to do that as soon as I return from vacation. Will wave when I go thru Slidel on Friday!!! LOL

KAREN, Sorry to hear that your cholesterol was still up, but it's really great that your triglycerides are coming down...one step at a time. I've seen where others have had problems with elevated liver enzymes after taking Zocor. Hope that stays in check, otherwise is the dr talking about stopping it???

QUILTER/Kim, LOL...the dog episode...keep up the great work. Sounds like you had quiet a talk with yourself & it worked!

Well, that's it for me... got to get going...lots to do before bedtime. Hope to check in tomorrow night. Hope you all have a good day tomorrow. See ya!!!

Quilter - did you mean me? I loved your typo 'cause it gave me a good laugh. You should see the ones I make at work where it could get me into trouble :) Just keep typing away and I promise not to point out any more!

Deb - hope your dad gets better quickly. I'll be keeping your family in my prayers.

Melf - The Phys. Assistant that I see is monitoring it by having me do another blood panel in 3 months. The enzyme range was only 3 points above the average range, so it's not critical. Just have to keep an eye on it.
I was just hoping that all the numbers would have gotten better. I just have to keep working at it!

KAREN---I was just teasing and honestly couldn't remember who'd pointed out my "questionable" typos. I think it's hilarious. Keep pointing ou my error, especially the funny ones. I'd far rather know when I make an idiot out of myself than be kept in the dark because folks want to be polite!!!! The really funny thing is that I spent MANY years working in the editorial department of a publishing company and I spent numerous hours trying to find such typos. Now I am free of that and really take my typing accuracy a lot less serious. So, always know that I don't take things like that personally . . . I'd far rather laugh!!!! Hope your next cholesterol reading is better. I'll be thinking of you. Have a good week.
Take care.

Just a quickie..

Deb...hope your dad makes out okay. It seems the hospital is the best place for him to be. Strange how these things just happen out of nowhere. I'll pray for him :)

Melf...yes, my dr. told me to stay away from caffeine, but I NEVER have caffeine. I don't drink Coke, coffee, or tea. I only drink water. I eat a square of chocolate about once a week! He suggested I take vitamin e. I haven't had any pain in a few days.

Kim..thanks for sharing your thoughts on living in the moment and experiencing joy. It can be hard for people to do sometimes. I try to be really appreciative of what I have in life. Yes, I have problems, but there are people who would gladly trade their problems for mine. It's all your perspective.

Rhroo..glad you had a successful shopping trip. I'm a terrible shopper so when I find something I like it's a real thrill!!

Sef (and Deb)...will do my very best to get the sgww pizza crust recipe from Pete and post it. It was soooo good. He sprinkled the crust with seseame seeds and parm. cheese!

Back to school tomorrow. The time is going to fly by! 12 days left. My kids will be wired! So will their teacher :)

Off to bed.
Good night-
Ashley

Thanks Fillise, for the link to the SEC lineup. All I can say is, “Go, Gators!” We’ll be up to Auburn for the game there. We usually stay at Calloway Gardens for a couple of days and make a nice trip out of it.

Quilter- I’m still LOVIN’ my iMac. My old mac was a Performa, with not even 1 Gig HD. I had a 56K modem, and to load this board took a while. So many times I would wait and wait and then some of the pages would come up half empty, like they never loaded at all. This has a 200Mgz processor which is fast, but I now also have a cable modem connection which combined with the processor makes almost no waiting. I love the i-tunes application on this machine and have already “burned” a CD for a friend. I can import any tunes I want and just listen as I type. I’m not part of the digital generation, so computers always buffaloed me. But this one seems to be less intimidating, and I don’t mind trying stuff that I’m not sure of. I got the “flower power” model, and it doesn’t have that beige boxy look that we are all so used to.

BOB--have a safe trip back from UGA country. Watch out for the roads. It has been very smokey here, and they have even closed some of the highways because of zero visability. There was a 9 car smash up where there was one fatality. Horrible!

We saw Shrek today at the theater and it was really cute. Very fun to watch and a good spoof on some of the Disney
stuff.

CHRIS--Where are you? Haven't seen you on the board in a day or so.

Have a good evening, y’all.

Deb - Sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope he'll be better soon.

Kim - I leave for my vacation next Tuesday, 5th June. I'll check out that movie you mentioned - COOKIE'S FORTUNE - when I return. I don't rent movies too often but when I do I like to know what I am going for. I can't stand spending ages browsing around looking at all the movies trying to find something. It's always good to have a recommendation.

Melf - Don't work too hard this week and have a FABULOUS holiday. I look forward to having a chat with you when I return, which won't be until the 20th June.

Nite

Good Tuesday Morning Everyone!

I got up and did a slow 4.5 miles today. I really wasn't in the mood to go, after getting on the scale once again and seeing the numbers up, it does put a damper on one's spirit-but I got out anyhow, much good I feel it is doing me lately. I know if I'm patient the scale will turn around, but as you all can relate, it's hard at times. Here I was over a week ago, only 1lb from goal and now I'm back up to being 4lbs away-and I'm watching and keeping track of my eating, and I'm doing my exercise, so I don't see why the scale does up instead of down. Okay, enough of my pity party!:rolleyes

Thanks to all of you who wished my Dad well. I'm sure he'll be just fine. His side of the family has the long life, so I don't expect him to go anywhere for a long time. That's the side of the family that my Great Grandfather lived to be 105yrs old, and would you believe, both his children, my Grandfather and his sister, my Great Aunt, both are still alive! My Great Aunt is 94, still drives (though she can't see over the steering wheel and I surely wouldn't want to be anywhere within 2 miles from her on the road). I just hope that long life flows into my veins!!!

It's TUESDAY TIPS and I found this on another website and thought it was worth sharing:

EXCUSES TO WORK OUT

If you dread exercise …

…you don’t have to. If you think of exercise as boring, hard, and something you’d rather just not do, you can make that change.

For just about anything, there’s an excuse or a negative spin you can put on it. All it takes is a shift in attitude, and the change it makes in your life is worth the efforts that initial shift takes.

Change the way you think about it. Instead of looking for excuses to avoid exercise, start looking for excuses TO exercise. I started a list for you. Please add to it. Send me your excuses to work out, and we’ll make a giant list:

Think of exercise as …

…getting out of the house and do something just for yourself

…a connection to new friends and social activity

…an invigorating way to tap your energy for other things in your life

…a chance to learn new skills or new interests which will enhance life

…a new medium for achievement. Accomplishing physical tasks makes the mental tasks easier

…an excuse to participate in fun activities and games as an adult

So start making excuses!

Here are some of your excuses:

From Lorrie:

My excuse to workout??? Easy....Vanity! I like knowing that at 47, I can still be slender, fit, tone and even younger looking. It keeps me moving!

Next...my daughter. She's 10 and I enjoy rollerblading, swimming and dancing with her. It's wonderful knowing you can ALMOST keep up with your kids!

From Michelle:

1- each time I work out, I believe in my increasing strength; for some reason, that feeling of increased capable strength carries over into how I approach tasks and challenges throughout my day.
2- being strong and quick gives me independence and the means by which to jump to someone else's aid.
3- Healthy Sweat is my friend, and I only get to see her when I exercise hard.

From nbunnie: These are some of my excuses to walk every day:

Time to think, reduce stress, time to be with God, Get a suntan,
Sweat out toxins

From MissMD: The Reasons I Walk Are:

1.) It keeps me from eating during that time.
2.) I realize that there is a world outside my house.
3.) I can refresh my spirit about life.
4.) I have more energy for everyday activity.
5.) My dog loves getting out and she keeps me going.

From staying healthy in college: The excuses for my daily exercise:

1.)a breath of fresh air
2.)the sooner I get done, the sooner I can eat
3.)good time to think to yourself

From dragons2fly: I feel powerful and attractive. I feel I can accomplish anything if I can get my exercise in.

From Lisa S.: These are excuses for my workout:

It will give me energy
It will suppress my hunger for hours afterwards
It will increase the amount of endorphins in my body making me happy
It will make me feel less like a couch potato
It will help me lose weight and feel and look great
When I've done it I can forget about it and concentrate on the more important things like getting college work done.

QUILTER, my Mom said my Dad will probably be the worst patient-he hates being confined and having to lie still. They had to put a "family only" sign on his room, so many people in the hospital kept coming by to say hello to him-I told him they were just wondering when he was going to get his butt back to work!!!! BTW, good job on the TM last night!

MELF, I too usually only use extra virgin olive oil, but sometimes regular olive for cooking-baking I may use canola-glad the info was helpful to you.

OVERCOME, let us know when Pete coughs up that recipe for the pizza dough! I tried one recipe, I think it was from the Brennans book-I threw it away, it was awful-could of been me, could of been the recipe, but I don't want to try that one again.

I have the day to myself, but have quite a few things to do. Going to visit my father later this morning and then pick up my 4 year old niece after Noon for a few hours, take her to get something to eat, to the park, to "the surprise store" so she can pick something out, etc. I'll take her to run a few errands before heading home. I have that dinner at 7pm tonight, so won't be around for much of the day.

Please remember, TONIGHT IS THE CHAT AT 9:15PM EST I've provided the link to the SB CHAT ROOM below, just click on it:

http://www.3fatchicks.com/chat/sbchat.html

I hope to get home in time to join you all!

Also, please don't forget (as much as I personally would like to), TOMORROW IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY! I truly hope the scales are kind to us all tomorrow!!!

I'll check in with you all later, if I have time, before I leave for the dinner, otherwise, when I return!

Have a great day!

Deb,

JUst wanted to let you know that you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I do hope all goes well, and he will be home soon.

Hi, to the rest of you. This is our last week of school, and I am so overwhelmed, and exhausted. Translation I am a real _itch!!! I should have typed those in all caps. Anyway, I am thankful you are all here. It helps...

I am hoping my walking tape that I ordered comes today! That is really what I need... to work off some of this stress. (Not to mention pounds, inches, etc...LOL)

Tomorrow is weigh-in Wed. It will be my first time posting...I have no idea how I did, but we'll see.

Have a great day!!!

Good morning everyone! My tip for today works from the motivational meditation from yesterday--live in the moment! There is nothing we can do about the past, and the future is not here yet. The only moment we can experience is the present. Besides, it is the things that we do in the here and now that can make future dreams a reality!

Deb--Sorry to hear about your father. I hope everything goes well for him as he recovers!

Ashley--SGWW pizza--yum. I've got a recipe for a SGWW crust, but haven't tried it yet. Pizza (even SGWW) is a danger food for me--it would be ok if I couldjust have one slice, but I tend to eat the whole thing!

Nance--Thanks for your good wishes! People ask to borrow my book all the time, but I don't let it out of my sight. I need it! I'm tempted to just order a case from Amazon and just hand them out when people ask (and believe me--the weight loss is really starting to show so they ask!).

SEF--OUCH! I hope your hand heals quickly! Cats really do rule the house!

Kim, Thanks for being in the present and experiencing joy.You can see it had a profound impact on me!

Gator--we'll have to get together when you come to Auburn for the game! For once, I'll actually look forwar5d to the Florida people coming to town. :D:

BOB--enjoy those mountains and the green grass! Thanks for the link for the low carb store. I'm heading through Greenville in the next couple of weeks, so I'll check it out!

I hope everyone has a good day!

Hi Everyone!
I was surprised to see so many posts!!! Glad everyone is back on th puter!

Rhroo
Congrats on the size 10. That must make you feel great. I try not to take my daughter with me when I shop becuase she helps remind me that I don't pick out "hip" things. Makes me feel like an old fart!

Quilter
Ohio weather sounds awesome. I'm actually working on
convincing my fam to move to Northern Calif. where the weather is normal. We actually had a break in the weather, it "only" got up to 97 yesterday!

Rosalie
SOrry about the frustration you are having. I know that if I get off plan, even a little bit, I gain it RIGHT BACK! It's like there is no room for error. Just try to make today a new day and get through "One Meal at a TIME!"

Debs
Sorry to hear about your Daddy. I hate to here someone going to the hospital, unless it's to have a baby! My brother had an anersym in his lung a couple of years ago and really shook him up. Same symptoms, shortness of breath, etc. Everything worked out fine. I'll say prayers for your Dad!

BOB
Glad you posted because I was just about to send the gnat to buzz your ears! Glad you are having a good time on your vacation. Sounds like you've been doing pretty good staying OP. It's neat that there are actually low-carb stores. I didn't even know they exsisted!

Melf
Yeah...this heat is killing me. I hope we can move to a cooler climate. Biggest issue isn't selling the house, or finding new jobs, it's the kids. My daughter is 11, and my son is 13, so they are attached to their friends, but I can't imagine staying here another 7 years!

Well, time to get ready for work. At least it's only a four day work week. I didn't do to great staying OP this weekend, someone needs to set me straight about the ways of the world! I need to listen to my own advice and get back to "One Meal at a Time!"

Just thought I would stop in and say hi. I have been reading your posts but mostly posting on other threads.

Things are the same for me I have not lost or really gained any new weight. I am basically still eating the SB way. It is a way of life not a diet. I have decided to maintain over the summer and then kick some butt in the fall!

I am glad to see that you are all doing well and staying for the most part OP

Talk to you later

Where does the time go? I've lost track as I haven't been doing much the last couple of days. My had is better, I can make a fist w/ just a little twinge, the redness and puffiness are down too.

KIM - I was only 6 at time of Pearl harbor, but I can remember the way the adults around me reacted. In those days we didn't have the war in front of us in living color. You would think that after what the general populace has seen of wars on TV (the news reports, etc) that we would learn something. That war IS H---! That we would end what is going on around the globe. Oops! Sorry just sort of philosophical.

My Granddaughter had to do a report in school a few years ago that was to interview someone who had lived during WWII, either at home or on the front. She asked me and I sent her a tape do tell about things I rememebred from rationing to censored letters from her great-grandfather stationed in Alaska. Later I got a card from her that said, "Grandma, we got an A!"

I loved your motivation piece, I must try to recapture some of the joy, I have become an old stick-in-the-mud!!!

ROSALIE - I know how hard it is to be stuck at a certain number and not see results. That is what I am going through now. It is so frustrating not to see resuts when you are being as good as you can be. Maybe we need a litle exercise.

DEBBIE - Hope all goes well with your Dad. Sounds like he has good genes and physical condition. That should help a lot with what is going on internally.

Are you sure a wet suit is the thing? I'd never get in one! They hug the body and every lump and unwanted curve would show!

Maybe I should get out in the pool again. I usually do water exercise for my bad back and knees. There is less stress in the water and it gives support to the body. I have not been exercising as I should. Maybe exercise would he a help Marie and I. Well, I can't speak for someone else, just myself!!

FELLISE - Seems to me we all have an excellent model in your Aunt. She must be a delight.

MELF - Louisianna is a new home for me (here about 2 1/2 yrs). I am a PA girl but am rapidly becoming more southern. What they say about southern hospitalit is all true!! People have been so welcoming! My daughter is an RN, she worked at Johns Hopkins for 7 yrs, then moved to HI, she is back on the mainland now. For a couple of years she was a traveler and went to several locations. Now is back east and I think she wil stay there a while, she is able to visit PA frequently and that makes her happy!

Well I've rambled enough. I will post a menu as you suggested Deb. Have to go now. Hope I can fight off my granddaughter for computer tonight to chat.

Hi everyone, hope you had a great weekend. I just was plain lazy as we had lazy weather. Mostly drizzled all weekend never saw the sun. I am looking forward to weighing in tomorrow just to see what the weight loss will be for me. So far as of this morning I was down 2 lbs. I had to strip off all the clothes to get the scale to go down :lol

Deb - Sorry about your dad I hope he gets out of that hospital fast and quickly recovers. You amaze me how you get out and exercise everyday. I think you are my exercise hero :) Hopefully one day I will be able to do it also. I went with my friend this weekend on a dog walk and I thought I was going to pass out. Here she is 10 weeks preg and I was huffing and puffing as we went up and down hills. I asked her how far we went and she thought it was about 3.5 miles.

Sef - Sorry to read about your hand. I am glad the swelling and puffiness has gone down. I hate those animal scratches. I get them from the dogs sometimes and they never seem to go away.

Fillise - That is so great to hear about those that are still going strong at a old age. My Great Grandmother just passed away last summer and she was 103. She had all her wits when she left us. Most of her brothers and sisters are still living. I think its our Danish blood that keeps us living long... I hope that some of that blood is in me.

Overcome - I cant wait to try that Pizza crust. I normally dont even eat pizza but this last week I have been craving everything and anything that is junk food. My DH pulled out a can of that Pillsbury Pizza Crust that I have in the fridge and asked if we could have pizza last night. Took all the strength I had not to say okay.

Nancemeister - You guys got up to 107? We had horrible weather. It looked as if it was going to rain all weekend. It mostly drizzled. This morning I was pissed as I woke up to sunny skys and had to go back into work. I wanted to lay out and make this fat brown fat :lol For some reason I seem to look better as a suntanned beached whale LOL

Well hope everyone has a great day and I am going to try to make it for chat tonight.

Hi all. Hope everyone's Memorial Day was a good and safe one. I spent the afternoon on the golf course with dh and another couple. It was hot and humid but I had a good time anyway.

I have taken a few days off this board to come to terms with the woe. I have managed to stay op food wise, but have not gotten over my sweet-tooth since I started in March. I now know what I have to do and that is to stay away from sf sweets until further notice, the problem is I dont know how to do it. I will rid the house of all sf stuff that I have, but I dont know how to fight the cravings. I just dont have any willpower when it comes to chocolate!!!! Maybe someone out there can give me some tried and true pointers.

Someone mentioned KK donuts the other day and I had a dream about some strawberry filled ones the other night. The power of suggestion.

Sef - welcome to the board. We are a friendly and helpful bunch. Sorry to hear about your hand.

Deb- Sorry to hear about your dad. Im sending good thoughts your way. I like the Raspberry flavoring. It makes drinking so much water a little bearable.

Big Orange - I know what you mean about taking backroads, my mom is always telling me how the quickest routes are always her routes. (not!!!).

Everyone else have a good day and hopefull I can get on the chat tonite.....

Hello everybody!

I'm sorry I haven't been posting lately, but I have been reading and mostly lurking. Things should settle down around here soon and I'll be back in full force!

I weighed this morning and (hopefully) I'm down about 2 lbs this week. I'm not counting it until tomorrow, though....I know how my weight can fluctuate. IF I'm still down, that will put me below the 200 mark. YEA!! I doubt I'll get to post it tomorrow, though. We have to take Ross to B'ham for treatment. He will have a spinal tap and chemo injected in his spine (his 10th since Oct.) It's been almost 2 months since we've had to go (we've been able to do most of his treatments at home), and I'm not looking forward to the trip. UGH!

On a slightly panicked note, my TOM is not and has not shown any sign of arriving. I'm not panicking yet, but I have not been exactly regular for the last few months (I've blamed it on stress). OMG....if I was...I can't even type the word......it would be a major adjustment. Geesh...I'm getting myself all worked up over PROBABLY nothing. I'll keep you posted!

Have a great day!

GREETINGS ALL! Back to the grindstone. Vince-Meister painted our bedroom yesterday and we slept in the guest bedroom last night so he could leave the furniture in the middle of the room to do the baseboards today. I’ll have a new bedroom when I get home and I can’t wait! (We never move the furniture to just put it back in the same places :) ) Actually, we rearrange our furniture all the time. We can’t afford new stuff so it’s the cheap way of getting something new – even if it’s just a new perspective.

I won’t get to everyone, but I read everything and I’m thinkin’ good thought ‘bout all of ya! Believing the one eyed monster will be kind to everyone tomorrow! (NANCEMEISTER I’ll be adding measurements tomorrow. Will you be updating yours????? With inches lost, too! :D ) Great motivating statements and tips this week!

SPARKLE – Where’s the DATE UPDATE????

SEF & SNOOKS – Welcome to the board! 30 lbs. is awesome! Sounds like we can learn from you, too!

KAREN – I just started Zocor, too. I got a letter and prescription from my Endocrinologist on Saturday. She didn’t want to wait until my appointment in July because she’s really concerned. My cholesterol has jumped over 100 pts since I’ve started on SB. It’s really high. I don’t get it, either. I’m starting to be more diligent to track every bite that goes into my mouth and I’m going to take it to the Dr. and say, “Look, this is what I’m eating. It’s TOTALLY within the guidelines of SB. I’m exercising almost every day. Taking my Glucophage, Zocor, and multi-vitamins. What’s up? What’s missing?” I’m only 32 for cryin’ out loud! My GRANDPARENTS are in better health than I am. I don’t know anything about liver enzymes but I’ll be looking up info on that during lunch. I’m sorry to hear about your FIL.

FILLISE – Awesome on the loss!! It’s always refreshing and reassuring to hear about people who take care of themselves living to ripe old ages and staying mentally and physically alert. Vince’s grandmother lived to be 94 years old and she could tell you great stories of moving to Orlando when it was a tent city when she was 16 years old. I like the travel and money idea. :) One day……one day………

DEB – Sorry to hear about your dad. I’m glad that he recognized that it was something that needed to be looked at immediately and took action. Sending up prayers for his speedy recovery.

MARY – I’ll check my e-mail when I get home. I know you’ll be busy with enjoying your vacation, but if we could squeeze in a sf cup of java that would be fun! GATORGAL might even be able to join us. We’re both right off I-4 at the Maitland exit so you’d probably have to pass us to get to the Mouse House depending on how you decide to go.

GATORGAL – I’ll be at the Fitness Coach at 4:30pm tomorrow. Will you be there then or is that too late to see you? Your Memorial Day outing sounds awesome! Of course having an awesome host and hostess, like you and Mr. Gator, makes the day complete!

Solshine - The only thing I can figure out is that I'm not eating the lowfat foods as much as I was before. Since the fat is usually replaced with sugar, the full-fat versions of food are usually legal. However, I readily admit that my choices are too many of the saturated fat variety--I'm a real meat eater. And I use real full-fat cheese with triscuits as a snack. Hummm - wonder if that's why I'm not losing some weeks LOL! Cholesterol tests are pretty sensitive to conditions, so it could have been what we ate the day before the test that spiked the results. We'll be keeping an eye on the liver enzymes. There has never been a problem before, but if it's elevated in 3 months, then the PA will probably want to change something. The Zocor really did help. It brought my total number down to 204 from 289, and my ratios were pretty good. I was just hoping that with the exercise and no sugar/white foods that I would see improvement in all the numbers. Hang in there and keep researching about these different issues on your own. You might find out something that your doctor doesn't know or just didn't think applied to you!

Hoping the scales are good to everyone tomorrow - you all deserve to post a loss!

Lisa A A Just buy a test at the drug store and stop torturing yourself wondering. Those things ought to show a pos. or neg. result very shortly after you have missed your period. At the crisis pregnancy center where I work the test we use (it comes direct from the lab, can't buy it in Walgreens) can detect a positive for pregnancy up to 4 days before you have missed your first period.

SolShine I work out on Mondays at 3 and usually stay until about 4 or 4:15 to walk on the TM. On Thursdays I work out at 9:30 am. I use the TM on Weds and Fri.s about 2 pm. What does Jim say about your eating list? Has he been checking it? When I stayed religiously OP and exercised with the weights 3X a week-strenously, I really lost, especially in inches and body fat. In 5 months I was looking like a babe! But I was very faithful and they checked my food lists every week and also checked up on the amount of H2O I was drinking. I'm more lax now.

Gotta go. Just wanted to check in.

Evening Gals!

I keep thinking today is Monday, since I actually didn't have to work yesterday! Glad it's a short work week!

Tiggerme
Is you aolname at work "PugsRfunny"...if it is, I didn't put two and two together. Re: the chat. I always got to Debbies post and click on the link she provides. Java chat has never worked for me either! Bummer! My sister lives in Newport Beach and she said today was the first day they had sunshine in one month. Sorry you didn't get to enjoy your sunshine! Come to Palm Desert, we have PLENTY, every single day!

Overcome
What does the "sg" mean in SGWW? I keep hearing about this pizza crust and I can't even figure out what the deal is besides whole wheat!

Lisa
How can I sleep wondering if you are positive or negative. I'll send you a test!!! Break down, go find out!

Solshine
I don't think there will be anything to post tomorrow except how many inches I've gone back up! But if you want me to post them to give you support I will! I've been bad lately. Broke down at work and ate a donut.
I've mentally been beating myself up for being off track.
Doesn't make sense to be good for a month, and then blow it in one week! I must need therapy!

ldblond
I miss you!!!!!! I need my buddy. I need support! When's that training going to be done???????????
What time is Michaels' baptism on Saturday? I need to talk to you!!!!

Debs
Hope everything went well tonight for you. Did you get your mail today? Let me know.

Well....I'm going to drink some tea and go read a book! Should be Sugarbuster all over again, but I still need to buy a copy!

Good Morning to All:

Today is the last full day with students!!! YEAH!!! Tomorrow and Friday are half days> This has been a rough year, I'm tired, and ready to send thme home. Then right about the 4th of July I'll start saying how board I am and how I can't wait to start school again. The very first day they let me in my classroom, I'll be there decorating, and arranging my room...But first I need some rest! LOL :)

Deb: It's not to like you to not check in, is everything okay with your dad?

SEF: We are neighbors, I live in New Orleans and teach in Gretna. In fact, I taught at St. Margaret Mary's in Slidell my first year.

Lisa_A_A: My thoughts will be with you today. I cannot imagine what you go through when you bring your son for treatment. I will pray for strength and courage for you and your family.

Sparkle: Where are you and what happened on that date, or is it still happening???

Okay, I've stalled long enough...I lost 1 pound, 4 sticks of butter!!! That's one of the things that we were told in our WW mtgs. that every 1/4 of a pound was a stick of butter. It helps make even a fourth a reason to celebrate.

But, you know whether we gain or lose, we are trying to eat healthy, exercise, (some of us, but my tape hasn't come in, yet) and we support each other. I hope as I continue this SB journey, I'll have all of you traveling with me...

BTW, I do have one of those WW calculators and I found my points for Soy milk. Thanks to all of you who reminded me about that, and who offered to help me figure it out.

Good Wednesday Morning Everyone!

Just got in from my walk, it's brutal out there. I did my usual 4.5 miles with 22 short jogs thrown in for good measure. The air quality is sooo bad out there! As I was walking I thought it was raining ahead there was such a haze, but as I saw the oncoming cars with no windshield wipers on or wet cars, I realized it wasn't raining. On the stretch home, the air is so thick that it was black-I wasn't too happy when I realized I was breathing that stuff in!

I'm sorry I wasn't able to make the chat last night. Before we turned around it was 9:20pm and we still weren't finnished at the dinner. It was nice, 15 parents/faculty. I sat across from another gal who's on a diet (WW) and we talked diet talk, while both eating the same thing. When it came to desserts, they had some awesome ones-I was going to get plain strawberries, but instead, I brought a piece of Marzipan Cake (which looked awesome) already boxed up and ready to bring home where Lauren, Michael & Eli sampled it. I had blueberries when I got in. Anyhow-by the time I got in, it was about 10pm, and I tried to get on line several times and wasn't able to do so. My computer has been acting up really bad lately by locking up, at times I just have to shut it down and I give up.

Thanks for all the good wishes for my Dad. He's looking good, just ansy to get out of the bed, he hates being confined. They may move him into a private room today-going to see him this morning. Here's a "small world" story. Last night, at the dinner, a few of us were discussing that one of the school counselors had passed away from a heart attack and how young he was and how good he looked. I started to mention what happened to my father, being in "good health" etc. and one of the other parents said "I think I know your father" and I thought he thought my Father worked at the school, and I told him "no, my Dad doesn't work at the school" and continued to talk, and then he says, "No, not from the school-is your Dad's name Bernie?" so I look at him and said "Yes! How do you know him?" And the man says, "He's my patient at the hospital!" I couldn't believe it, his Dr. was listening to me, and my the discription of my Father being in NC and the rest of the story and he realized it was his patient! Small world, huh?

Yesterday, I picked up my niece who will be 4 in Oct. from school and took her to the park and a couple stores. We got home and she was tired, so I told her to go lie down in Lauren's room. About 5 minutes later she comes out crying - she barfed all over Lauren's white carpet and trailed it into the hallway onto my beige berber shag-what a mess-nice orange stains:eek: I used 4 different products that didn't help and finally ran to the store for some shampoo cleaner. I had bought a Bissel steamer over a year ago at a garage sale, like brand new-thank goodness, it got almost the whole thing out-Lauren's room, a very faint and almost not noticeable stain-poor kid was so upset!

Eli is off today, so we are headed up to Broward for the day, so I won't be back on til this evening some time. Of course, a day going up to Broward means a lunch at Ole Ole - and Carbolite for dessert!;)

Okay, okay, so on to the task at hand in reminding everyone that IT'S WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!! The scale is still up for me, but down from last week-so technically, NO loss for me. I'm still up 1.5 lbs from my lowest WIW, 2 from my lowest WI. I hope the scale is kinder to everyone than it has been for me lately.

LDBLOND wanted me to let you all know she's incredibly busy at work and hopes to be on sometime next week : )

GARDEN, glad you are still around and lurking-hope to see you back on the board full force after the summer, if not before.

SEF, glad to hear your hand is doing better, just keep and eye on it to make sure it continues to do well. LOL! I really couldn't even try to get in a wet suit if I wanted to, the flab would get stuck trying to get it on-it's just the one I'd pick because it would hide the flabby arms and the elephant thighs I have. No, this body will NEVER see a bathing suit ever again-I've been banned from buying one from the National Institute for Bathing Suit Design!

TIGGER, I ALWAYS wheigh in the buff! Hope the scale shows you still down today-that's great on the 2lbs you posted yesterday, congrats! Hey, if you did 3.5 miles, that's wonderful! I remember when I weighed 284lbs and then started to lose weight and decided to start walking, I couldn't get but a few houses down before I was ready to come home huffing and puffing. Not always do I feel like going out to walk, but once I'm out there, I'm glad. When you get into the routine of it, you really do enjoy it! Sorry you had trouble with the chat, being computer stupid, I don't know anything about JAVA-or much else when it comes to computers!

CATLOVER, I have read that not letting your body detox from sweets, which include sugar free, will make you crave sweets, so I think trying to cut all sweets out is a good idea. If you just cut them all out, you WILL lose the cravings-I know this from personal experience-it DOES WORK! One thing I don't agree upon in the SB BOOK is saying that the chocolate is allowed-this shouldn't be so until maintenance, or near it. If I had partaken in any before doing this for almost a year, I don't think I would of been as successful with SB, not only in the weight loss, but in the point that now, I may have a tiny piece of SB LEGAL chocolate maybe once a week-that I can now take it or leave it-doesn't faze me in the least.

LISA, hoping the scale is down for you today-will await your post for a real congrats! Please, let us know how everything goes with Ross and the procedure today-we'll be praying that all goes well. Here's hoping that TOM shows up-SOON!!!!!

SOL, that would be great if you and MELF could meet!!!!! Hope you can work it out!!

NANCE, sorry I haven't e-mailed, as you can see, it's been hectic-will try to find you tonight sometime. YES, I got the mail and THANK YOU!!!! for sharing that picture with me! Since I hadn't a clue what you look like it was a nice suprise to open up the mail and see a beautiful blond woman with a wonderful smile! Dan looks like an actor, I can't remember his name-kids almost look like twins! You look like one happy family. I'll write more later :)

ICESKATE, CONGRATS! That's a great loss:)

Well, I've got to run and get in the shower. Have to go see my Father this morning and then we're off to enjoy the day.

Please remember, TOMORROW IS RECIPE DAY so if you have any SB LEGAL RECIPES you'd like to share with the board, please, try to post them tomorrow.

I'll check in with you all sometime later!

Hey Ladies - I'm suffering from an awful sinus headache so haven't been on this week - will try to post more when the meds kick in....but here is the link to my article about Sugarbusters in the Hartford Courant. It's not perfect....but I think she did a good job. Actually, for simplicity's sake, I think I'll just cut and paste it...hang on....here it is, from today's Hartford Courant:::::

Sugar Busters' Is No Atkins Deprivation Diet
By CLAUDIA VAN NES
The Hartford Courant
May 30, 2001

I've tried every way to lose weight except having a zipper stitched on my lips. And a low-carbohydrate diet.

Because the latter is one of the most popular weight-loss plans in recent history, it's quite astonishing that I, a veteran of many a diet war, have not joined this campaign.

That's not altogether true, however. I've come to believe sugar is a major deterrent to weight loss, so I've certainly cut back on my consumption and increased protein intake. I also recently tried a week of very low-carb eating, which affirmed my fears about this way of eating.

I lost 3 pounds following the plan and using the easy, tasty recipes in a book I wrote about in last week's Food section called "Low Carb Meals in Minutes" (Bay Books, $18.95) by Linda Gassenheimer.

Sparing you the details, I'll just say havoc was wrecked in my innards, although I was not hungry and did lose my craving for sugary stuff by the second day.

But this plan and Robert Atkins et al., with their long lists of forbidden fruits and vegetables, fiber and starches, are too Draconian for me. Further proof comes from readers who talk of slipping off the Atkins wagon a lot more than they talk of staying on.

Those who've written about weight loss, including me, tend to lump the authors of "Sugar Busters" (Ballantine, $23.95) with Atkins and the rest. The "sugar busters" are from the New Orleans area and include three doctors and one big-time businessman.

Indeed, the book reads like yet another get-rich-quick diet book. The writing is boring, and the promises are as big as the typeface to ensure enough pages are filled to have something to put between two covers.

"Sugar Busters," like other diet books, describes the scientific processes connected with food consumption, and it's tough to read. You can get advanced college degrees in this stuff and trying to explain it in a couple of chapters is impossible.

So, take the mind-numbing writing and the title, which certainly makes it sound like another no-carb diet, and it's not surprising "Sugar Busters" gets grouped with Atkins.

It shouldn't, though, because, as a Simsbury advocate says, it isn't a no-carb plan; it's a no-sugar, sensible carbohydrate plan. On Sugar Busters, you can eat bread, pasta and rice as long as they're whole-grain. You can eat fruits, except for sugar-loaded ones like watermelon and bananas, and you can eat vegetables except for white potatoes, carrots and other root vegetables, and the big one, corn.

I've heard from other Sugar Busters advocates, but the Simsbury reader really hit home with her well-grounded enthusiasm.

She's 42 years old with 7- and 10-year-olds, a husband, a job, a busy life and a tendency to be, since the kids, about 20 pounds overweight. A healthy eater, she says she tried Weight Watchers and other diets and though faithful, didn't lose.

Finally, she turned to Sugar Busters. From the beginning of February to mid-March, she dropped 11 pounds, was never hungry and didn't feel particularly deprived.

Some personal problems caused her stress and the need to travel so she rather purposely decided to spend time on a plateau, adhering to the basic principles of no sugar but not as strictly as she had been.

Now, she's back on, determined to whittle off the last 9 pounds and figures once she does, she'll ease off now and then and if she gains, get strict again for a spell.

What she misses most is pizza, off-limits because of the white flour, and sushi, made with white rice.

Cereal is a problem because there are so few without sugar, molasses, sucrose, honey or other sugary stuff. She eats Uncle Sam's or Special K, but for most breakfasts, she has fruit - one half-hour before the main meal, which is a Sugar Busters rule - and then a piece of multi-grain bread toasted and spread with two triangles of "light" Laughing Cow cheese or light Swiss. She often uses Ezekile, a brand of bread in the frozen food section at Stop & Shop and at health food stores called because it's one of the few she's found without much sugar.

This way of eating requires careful reading of labels because sugar and its equivalents are in a lot more products than we might assume. (Lactose, a milk sugar, is permitted, so milk and other dairy products are on the list.) Corn, or its oil, also is a common ingredient in food.

This woman uses as a sugar substitute agave nectar, made from a cactus plant that looks and tastes like honey but with a thinner consistency, she says. Some other sugar substitutes, including aspartame, are also permitted.

A website this woman discovered offers a better explanation of sugar busting, a number of recipes and some impressive before-and-after pictures of its author, who lost 100 pounds on the plan. It's called www.prettyimpressivestuff.com/sugarbusters. Also helpful to the Simsbury reader is a cookbook, "Sugar Bust for Life" (Shamrock, $14.95 ), by Ellen and Theodore Brennan.

So, I'm sold. I'm going to try Sugar Busters' plan and keep you posted. Please tell me your experiences on this plan, as well.

Let me know what you think,
viv

VIV - the article was very good, I thought. Covered the basics and distinguished the two plans. Way to set her straight! Keep us posted if she puts anything else in the paper about her success with SB.

Well, I'm down 2 lbs today. Probably because of this cold that I still have and paying more attention to what I'm eating.

My FIL passed away yesterday, 2 days shy of his 92nd birthday. My husband is not doing well with it and doesn't feel well, to boot. He has 6 other sibblings, some in Texas and some in Florida, and there are 18 GC and 39 GGC, most of whom are coming for the funeral. They want the oldest GS from each family to be a pallbearer, so I need to take my DS shopping to get a sportcoat and dress slacks and shoes. Think I'll try the consignment shop and see if there's anything there--he'll never wear these again before he grows out of them, so if I can get gently worn clothes cheaper, that would be great. This will be a looonngg week for us. It will be nice to have everyone together, but not the cirumstances.

I better get to work. Have a great WIW!

DEBBIE - We were posting at the same time. So...Glad to hear your dad is doing well and has the support group of the century there! I'm sure he'll be back on his feet in no time. It truly IS a small world, isn't it?

ICESKATEFAN - Congrats on the loss!!

TIGGERME - Looks like you have a great loss to report, too!! (I always weigh NEKKID!! I need all the help I can get! )

KAREN - Thanks for the info. I'm going to call my Dr. about having it taken again because it seems awfully high. Vince is convinced that the lab tech was hung over when he did my tests. :D I took the test fasting, but you still think what I ate the day before could have an affect? The Zocor sight didn't give much info so I'm still looking. I really don't eat a lot of fat, so I just don't think that's the problem.

GATORGAL - Sadly, no, I have not been faithful to follow the plan he gave me. I was having to substitute SB friendly foods for almost everything on the menus and he has so much food suggested for the evenings and I eat most of mine during breakfast and lunch so my "real" food intake didn't mirror his suggestions at all. I've got me a little notebook now, so I'm going to follow his plan and still do the substitutions and moving things to the best time of day for me and see how that works. I KNOW I'm not getting all my water on a regular basis so I'm going to be working on that area again. Thankfully he hasn't asked to see it! Sorry I won't see you today!!

LISA - Hope things go well with Ross in B'ham. I'm with GATORGAL - go get a test - we're on the edge of our seats here!

NANCEMEISTER - I've been wondering what that SG is, too! Thanks for asking! OK, I"m going to be posting at lunch - but I'm down in inches (albeit ever so slightly) and down 1.5 lbs. from last week. ("Wow a whole 3.5 lbs. in almost 4 months!!")

VIV - Thanks for posting the article. I've pasted it into Word to read a bit later. I'm looking forward to it!

MELF - I e-mailed you back last night. Looking forward to meeting you! :D

MARIE and MELF - Do you have HOLIDAY HEAD yet? That's what our boss calls it when we're pushing ourselves to be productive right before a vacation. It's so hard to work when you're gearing up to go play!

Going to update my stats and then I've GOT to work - or the Network **** will get me!

Have a great day everyone!!

Deb: I was lurking with not much time to post but wanted to tell you about a product that I use on the carpet that gets everything out. You get it at major pet store chains like Pet Supermarket. It is called Nature's Miracle and it a natural neutralizer. It got red punch out of my carpets, dog spit up etc. You pour it on and let it soak into the carpet (test it in a spot first just in case it reacts to your carpet different from mine) and then rub it out. I have white carpets and it has been amazing...it also neutralizes the smell....

Good Morning You Losers!

As usual, I was 90% done with my post, when AOL decided it would be a good time to sign me off! Here we go again!

Karen3000
Sorry to hear about your FIL. It doesn't seem to matter what age someone is when they pass away, it's always difficult to deal with. My prayers will be with you and your family:angel: Congrats on your 2lb. weight loss, even if it is due to being ill!

Solshine
I posted my measurements, so you best get out that tape measure and gets yours up there too, or things could get ugly!!!:p Better to have a 3.5 weight loss than gain! Most of the patients at my office seem to do better on Lipitor 10mg. daily. See if you can get your doctor to switch you to that, because if your numbers haven't come down, sounds like the meds. aren't working for you. If it's not covered on your insurance plan, they can put in for a prior authorization and get it approved. There are ways around the systems!
What seems to work best for me OP is eating carbs for breakfast, like a SF cereal, then having protein and veggies for lunch and dinner. I WAS loosing 1.5 every week, but since I've been a rebel lately....the scale has been heading in the other direction, but not for long!

Debs
Glad you got the mail, and now know who you are dealing with! Sorry your walk wasn't too pleasant, but at least you got your butt out there and did it! You are constantly a source of inspiration for me. Unlike the woman who have lost weight on the Richard Simmons info-mercials, I actually know you! When I get down, I say to myself "Look how far Debs has come!". I just need to get my brain back in the good mode it was the first month I was OP. I made the mistake of eating those Drost chocolates, and I agree, shouldn't even have the things until on maintenance. I tested the waters and realize, and have no self control when it comes to sweets, and best just to stay away 100%. I even worry about recipe made with Agave nectar. If I should just not even tempt myself with those things!
Like I was telling Solshine, when I was being good, everything was working great...DH and I committed to starting an exercise program June 1st **** or high water.

Spraklescamp
If we don't hear from you soon, I'm calling "911".

BOB
Did you stock up at the low carb store? Have you been able to stay OP while on vacation? When are you coming home??? Is this a 2 week power vacation or what? I'm just jealous because I need one bad!

First things first. I'm down another pound this morning--to 244. That makes 56 pounds total. This has been a good week for me. I tend to lose in chunks and then plateau for a couple of weeks, so this is one of the losing times for me. yeah! This pattern scared me at first. When I first started sugarbusters I lost well and then hit a stall that I thought would never end. Then I lost again and this pattern started. Now that I understand the pattern I try not to let the holding pattern discourage me.

Who asked about the SG in SGWW. It means stone ground--as in stone ground whole wheat.

Karen--Sorry to hear about your FIL. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts this week.

Viv--I thought the article was good--the conversion of a skeptic. It clearly separates SB from Atkins--which can only be a good thing!

Deb--Glad to hear that your father is doing well. Keep doing the right thing and the scale will go down again!

Lisa--I hope things go well for Ross today. I know the treatments are tough, I can only imagine what Ross and the rest of the family are going through. Keep us posted on the other thing--we'll be here to support you whether you need to make "adjustments" or not!

I hope the steel-eyed monster is good to everyone this morning!

SUSAN: These people hve their original store in Anderson. The address is on the website with a map to show you where it is. The one here in Greenville is very small, hasn't been open very long. The owners husband came with a delivery while we were there. As usual with these kinds of stores.....very expensive...I did get four tubes of Norwegian (sp?) cream cheese...one with shrimp, one with ham, one with smoked salmon, one with garlic.....They look like huge tubes of toothpaste!
The Anderson store is larger and has more...maybe you
should go there if you're going to be in Anderson.

NANCe: I heard that buzzing in my ear yesterday morning! You should look around for these stores they are every where now. I still think you can do a lot of things yourself...like the cheese snacks we saw for $3.95 for a SMALL bag....you can take shredded cheese and put it in a non stick pan....leave it alone until it gets crunchy on one side then take a spatula and lift it up and flip it over...do the same on this side...while it's still warm, cut it into triangles or break into pieces and ENJOY!!!

Off to get dressed....ceremony at three...dinner at the club, and WHATEVER~~~

Yes, I am still hanging around. Just call me THE LURKING GARDENER:spin: Don't want all of you to think I am not here in spirit at least. This weight issue has been rather roller coastery for me. Unlike our SUPER WONDERFUL, SUPER CHICK DEBBIE, when I let it get to me, I don't feel much like posting. Actually that wonderful steel monster has been teasing me so the last week, that was another reason why I haven't posted on WIW lately. For instance 2 weeks ago, I was up to 128 then I bounce down, then just this Saturday, I was like 123.5:eek:!!!!! I was so excited, but of course it never seems to happen to any of us on WIW - DUHHHHHHHHH:lol: I am happy to say, I am down 1lb form last official low of 125.... so that puts me now at 124. WHO KNOWS WHAT IT WILL BE TOMORROW..... The moral of this story is, I am learning hard to accept daily changes etc....

Well, I gotta get outside........I hear the yard calling my name. I am thinking of both of you, Deb and Karen, with your individual family crisis's. Way to go for all you losers!!!!!!!! Bob, don't let the bears get you up in them there hills!!!!! Hi to everyone, and all my love....

SolShine I don’t think you have to follow his plan exactly. What he has done is to find foods that most people eat that are generally “healthy” and put them on his daily list so you are eating the right number of calories. As you saw, he is into the calorie thing, with the rotating up and down of the 1300-1200-1100 and then back up. So if you stick to SB and just keep the calorie count right and drink the water, you’ll be on the SB plan and the Fitness Coach plan as well. Just keep your diary and eat healthy and keep within the calorie range and you’ll do fine. You know that he doesn’t want you to eat too little and says that when you are starving yourself with too few calories, you won’t lose that weight. The big problem for me is nothing more than discipline. The quote Deb posted last week on Self discipline was really good and I copied it off and laminated it and now carry it in my daytimer. It has been a big help.
Actually, you and I want to lose about the same amount of weight. I’m just starting at a different weight than you are.

Frog Yep. We have a water crisis. We have been on rationing for several months, and it may continue for the whole year unless we get a hurricane or two. All the lakes are drying up, and the big danger is the lowering of the water in the aquifer, which is the big underground system of water in the limestone, which is what holds Florida up from just sinking into the Atlantic. There is a danger of something called saltwater intrusion, which is when the fresh water gets so low in the aquifer, the saltwater just moves in to fill in the cavities. We also have sinkholes pop up when the water table gets too low. SolShine can tell you about sinkholes!!!
We are just starting to get afternoon thundershowers, which is good for the rain, but bad for the lightening, which is what starts most of the fires. We have had some smoke in the Orlando metro area as a result of the fires, and some major highways have been closed.

Calling all SBers I am looking for a GOOD website that gives calorie info. Specifically, I would like to put in what I eat and have it tell me how many calories I have consumed. Anyone know of a good site? Some of them are pretty detailed and you have to click through ten tons of stuff to arrive at what you want. Hopefully, someone knows of a site that is pretty straightforward.

Well, I’m off to walk the TM.

Hi Ya'll,

My students are finishing up a few things, so I thought I'd take a break and see what's up.

Viv: What a great article!!! I like the way the reporter explained the difference between the two. We have a celebrity in our midst! May we have your autograph!!! :)

Tiggerme, Fillise, Solshine, and Amseraphim: Wooo Hooo on the loss. You guys are such a big help to the rest of us who are just beginning!!!

Karen3000: I'm so sorry about the loss of your FIL. I saw this on TV the other day...it was a quote, but I'm not sure of the exact words...
God only gives us what we can handle. I only wish he didn't trust me so much!
-Mother Theresa

FrogLover: Welcome back!!! Enjoy those compliments...you deserve them!!!

Snooks: Welcome...cream cheese is acceptable...if you are trying to lose weight, I'd try the light or neufatel (sp). But, cream cheese is an acceptable food.

Deb: It's such a small world!!! Sitting right there with your dad's doctor. You are such an inspiration with your exercising in the heat, and the fire smog. Be careful. Is it safe to be out breathing all that soot???

Okay, what should we do about Sparkle??? I am really getting worried...Any ideas...Sparkle, if you are lurking, just give us sign that you are still here... :)

OK I have great news. I am now 1/2 pound below my lowest weight. I am down to 272.5. Yeah!!!!

I couldn't believe it when I got on the scales this morning. Finally it's on the way down.

Congratulations to everyone that lost!! If you didn't lose, just hang in there and you will soon.

Have a great evening!

Okay, first things first....I awoke this morning to find my TOM had arrived. WooHoo! I was about to get worried...I used to be so exact I could predict within a few hours. The last fews months have really been jumping around. I guess it was just stress! Not that I wouldn't have (eventually) been totally thrilled...it's just that w/everything we're going through w/Ross right now my plate is pretty full. Not to mention he's 10 and my daughter is 8...it's been a long time since I've been in the "diaper mode"! :)

I'm down 3 pounds this week...FINALLY below the 200 mark! Yea!!!

Our trip to B'ham today was long and exhausting. Had to get up at 4:30 to be ready to leave and be there by 8:30. He was supposed to have his labs done and then go upstairs for his spinal at 9:00. WELL, some doctor in another clinic bumped us and he did not have his spinal until 12:30! UGH!! We did not leave clinic until 1:30, making it a grand total of 5 hrs in clinic and another 5 hours driving from my house to Bham and back. Poor Ross.....he couldn't eat anything after supper last night since he was being sedated, so he was starving. Good news is he did great and is feeling fine now.

Thanks for letting me vent!

Hi Gals!!! Sorry that I was a no-show last night. But I’ve got to say, it’s going to be this way until after the Stanley Cup Finals are over. For us, that is must see tv!!!

SEF---Thanks for sharing your memories of Pearl Harbor. I wasn’t around then so can only imagine the terror and tragedy. Your project help for your granddaughter was so great!! What a kind grandma you are!!! BTW . . . I seriously doubt what you said about being a stick in the mud. Just maybe you’ve gotten into a rut, but I’m sure you’re not a stick in the mud. Way too negative a label for such a sweet person!!!

TIGGER---Way to go on the 2 pound loss!!! Whatever it takes to get that needle to take a nose dive. I just hope you weren’t at the gym or at work or in a public place while weighing in. Ha!!!! That made me giggle.

LISA---So happy to hear about your 2 pound loss and ECSTATIC to hear that you broke a big old zero. That is so awesome!!!! Yippee for you!!! Keep up the hard work . . . it’s paying off. Hope Ross’ day today wasn’t bad. That has to be difficult for all of you. Here come some good thoughts and prayers from me.

DEB---I’m really impressed that your dad’s doctor is so in touch with his patients that he’d be able to pick out your dad from your description. That must mean he’s really got his patients on his mind a lot. Cause you gotta know they have tons of patients and to remember all the details would have to be tough. Deb, you had your own little spewer!!!!! Really sorry to hear about that one. There’s a book I have called Talking Dirty with the Queen of Clean (This woman is awesome . . . says she hasn’t met a stain she can’t remove!) She recommends this product called Spot Shot Instant Carpet Stain Remover. I found it in the grocery store. It’s an aerosol can and is really great. Maddie has a sensitive stomach at times and this last time, the Spot Shot really worked. Also she says at the time of the spew, sprinkle on a heavy coating of baking soda and let it absorb moisture and dry, then scoop or vacuum up. The baking soda will neutralize acids and help prevent stains. Then follow up with the Spot Shot. Buy the book . . . it’s worth it. She also has one called Talking Dirty LAUNDRY with the Queen of Clean.

VIV---Hey, I was wondering where you’d been. Was just about ready to start giving you grief . . . I’ll lay off for now. Loved the article. Way to go!!! Hope this writer has big success!

KAREN---Sorry to hear about your father-in-law. My prayers are with you all. It’s hard saying good-bye. Sounds like he enjoyed a very large family.

FROG---The spewer needs to be shot . . . or worse!!! I cannot believe that she spoke of all that to ANYBODY let alone a mixed group of people. How does she keep getting invited to places all the while being totally rude and inappropriate????? YUCK!!!!! I guess when any of us get fed up with our friends, she should just think of her and realize we don’t have it so bad. On a nicer note . . . so glad to hear all the positive responses you got while visiting your family. It certainly sounds like they were so supportive. That’s wonderful!!!! My heart goes out to your mom . . . been there, done that . . . from the depths of denial. Hopefully, she’ll get to that point where she’s ready to take ahold of her life and fix this eating thing.

AMSER---Sorry to hear about your trouble with the scale . . . time to give it the old kick out the door. Maybe right into your lake, does that sound like a good idea???? I wish you were here with me . . . my garden is a sight and it’s not a good sight. Having been out of town for the past THREE straight weeks, you can imagine that NO work has gotten done. And we’ve had a ton of rain and that means weeds everywhere. It’s really getting bad. That’s my priority on Friday and Saturday. Ugh!!!! Wish me luck. And any tips from the master would be greatly appreciated!

SNOOKS---Welcome to the board and that goes for your husband too. We are glad to have you here with us and eager to give you all sorts of encouragement and advice. As far as Ph cream cheese goes, I eat it occasionally . . . I usually go for the low fat kind. I despise the fat free stuff. Really gross!!! The rest of the gals will tell you what they think. I love cream cheese and celery. What a good and legal snack!

CHERI---So glad to hear about your loss today!!!!! You are really doing well. I am so thrilled for you!!! Sorry we didn’t get together this past weekend, but I gave you really short notice. Next time I’ll do better on my planning. We could have a great visit over a yummy iced mocha latte at Eli’s Place!!! I’ll keep you posted. And keep up the good work. How’s the job going? Still enjoying those early morning hours?????

Yoga class was great tonight. We worked on the hip joint and lower back. Wow!!! I got in some great stretches. My lower back feels better than it has in days. Amazing stuff, girls!!! Run, don’t walk to your nearest wholistic center and register for some classes. You won’t be sorry!!!

Well, tomorrow is a big day. I have to speak at the Cincinnati Public Schools Adult Education graduation. It’s a pretty big ceremony with all the people who’ve passed the GED test. Thank goodness, I’m only doing a small part, but I still think I’ll be nervous. Going to get all dressed up and wear my wonderful outfit from the wedding. Hope I don’t get all sweaty!!!! Wish me luck!!!! Better go check the pantyhose situation . . . .sometimes that can cause a panic!

Hope everybody has a great Thursday!!!! Talk to you later.
Take care.

Deb: I was going to tell you that I hope that your Dad is feeling better. I'm glad that he has a good doctor and was in great health to begin with. I'm sure that helped him a great deal.

Kim: good luck tomorrow. You'll do great. I have thought a lot about yoga but I wouldn't be able to get into most of those positions. After I lose a bit more I want to give it a try though. As for getting up in the mornings, well....I'm getting better at it, but I'm still a real sleepy head.

Chris: Hope everything is ok. Let us know how you are.

I'm sorry I haven't responded to everyone this evening. I do read your posts and you all inspire me so much. Keep up the great work and I'll try to do better this weekend.

OK. Does anybuddy know of a good calorie counting web site? One that is not too complicated and is fairly easy to use. I think it might be easier for me if I could find a good web site on this. I know about FITDAY.com but was wondering if there was anything else out there. Deb, what do you use?

Hello fabulous ladies!

No, I haven't been abducted, cut into tiny pieces, and left in a black plastic garbage bag in a dumpster in Waianae. As I posted, I went on a camping trip this weekend and when I got back to work, the ship hit the land and the land was running.

However, the concern is appreciated. My good buddy SolShine even took the time to email me...you are a good friend, Sonya!

The camping trip was in a hidden valley on the North Shore of Oahu, where both Jurassic Park and Pearl Harbor were filmed. I don't understand why the filmmakers chose Kualoa over the REAL Kolekole Pass (where the Japanese planes flew in) which is equally stunning. It had to be one of the best campsites on the face of the planet. A huge kitchen pavillion area with a large tank of rainwater, a ledge that served as a "bedroom" for the tents, and two compost toilets and a garden hose shower. Best of all, there were absolutely no other campers around, and on Memorial Day weekend too!

But, I was with two couples and quickly got bored. I ate well and walked about 10 miles in two days. But I called my mommy to take me home and spend 2 hours 40 minutes talking long distance to my best friend, which was a real treat.

Sunday, my ah...beau and I went out on our third date, which involved hiking and going to the beach. He thought I was kidding about the hike, which offended me highly! ;) So I marched him up the mountain even though he was wearing beach sandals and a hot t-shirt. As punishment, he is definitely going to climb the 2 1/2 mile Kuliouou Ridge with me and I'm not stopping for whining!

Then we went to Waimea, one of my favorite beaches, along with Lanikai and Mokuleiea. The water was like glass and I swam half the length of the beach, which wasn't much, but I haven't swam in ages. There is a huge rock that daring kids jump off of, while their parents wait in the water below. I had jumped off of it before, but hit the water wrong and messed up my ears and nose pretty badly (my head exploded) so I was terrified but I knew I had to jump off the rock. So I did! But he was too chicken. ;)

We went to dinner at the so-so Rosie's Cantina (he pays for everything) where I tried a drink called "mescal" with a tomato juice chaser. It was the nastiest stuff I've ever tasted: sort of like a combination between motor oil and gasoline.

We are getting along famously and things look pretty, but once again, I don't expect too much too soon.

Meanwhile, on the home front, since I've been seeing someone, my roommate has been bending over backwards to do nice things for me, like keeping me company in the grocery store and carrying my groceries (???). Last night he bought the most awesome rack of pork ribs (a toast to the pig who died for us) and some cole slaw instead of fresh corn, because he knows I don't eat corn.

Still have a pending coffee date with an old friend (put it off to work) and my ex-boyfriend is sending me seven-page letters about spirituality after I spent two years DESPERATE for him to open up to me and talk about deeper subjects. I had gotten to the point where I felt it was impossible to talk to men: they are completely shallow beneath the surface. But I was very wrong. I was me who was shallow, and now that I am growing as a person (and shrinking!) my relationships are acquiring a depth that I never thought possible.

I have posted in the past that I have had difficulty concentrating at work and have been spending too much time on posting and other personal activity. Although I get paid too much to be stealing time, I just couldn't figure out how to get out of this rut. I have a lot of "good" reasons for being in this rut, or rather excuses I've been using for the past few months.

Well, I had to cut my work time short on Saturday to go camping, and left a lot of things undone. My boss is leaving town tomorrow for 12 days. On Tuesday, I got the lecture of my life, followed by two intense days of trying to catch up on all the things I've been slacking on. I stayed until 9 last night and after 6 tonight, in tears most of the time (literally) trying to get a handle on my workload.

So I have made a couple of major changes. The first thing I did was take full responsibility for my own performance and threw all the excuses out the window. no more worrying about how someone else is performing!

Two, I sat down with each of my coworkers individually and had a long, honest talk with them about my performance and immediate goals. I told them that I feel I've been spending too much time posting and surfing the net, and sweating the small stuff, and that I would be now focusing on projects that will bring in money.

Three, I made a firm resolution not to do any personal internet stuff at work, even during my lunch break. Instead, I'm going to take my lunch break OUTSIDE (professionals don't eat at their desks) and get away from the computer!

In the past two days, I have really turned around. I have the choice of staying a secretary or taking charge of my career NOW, not at some point in the future. My very own business cards come in on June 5! And my boss is relying on me to expand the pension plan area while she is away. It will be a great chance to test my wings without her constantly there to both help me and tell me what I'm doing wrong.

With everything else in my life going almost like a fairy tale (for the moment), I'm determined to get my career on track and move forward.

So, this means, with a potential new boyfriend and my own forum to moderate, I won't have time to post here on a daily basis anymore, but will check in on weekends to see how ya'll are doing. I don't know if I will have time to catch up on all your posts then or not...I'm pretty overwhelmingly far behind, but I have read them and am glad everybody is doing well!

Oh, I weighed in this morning at the gym and was pleased to be 155, 1 pound less than my low and 2.5 pounds less than last week! This was after eating a whole rack of ribs too. It may not seem like much, but that one pound is a HUGE deal for me at this point.

Take care everyone!

Much aloha,

Chris

By the way to anyway coming this way!
Meat has always been safe to eat. Foot and Mouth doesn't make meat unsafe to eat; however, animals have been slaughtered so we're not eating it anyway. Most of the countryside has now been re-opened as cases diminish. Only Yorkshire is still closed. Come to Cornwall!! It's beautiful and F & M free!!!

Good morning everyone! I hope it is a good day for my fellow SBers.

I'm off to a meeting soon and to pack up my office at the university so this will be short. I just wanted to pop in and say hello. I don't know if I'll be able to get back on today.

I'm looking for a recipe (since it is recipe day). It is an old (very old) WW recipe--I think it was in one of their first cookbooks. It was for muffins and was made out of crushed up bread crumbs rather than flour. I loved those muffins. Every now and than I want a muffin, and all the ones I have made from scratch with SGWW have been so heavy you could use them for door stops. If anyone has an old WW cookbook, I'd sure appreciate it of you would look to see if that recipe is in there and post it if it is. I'm thinking this was from about 20-30 years agp (I mean really old!!!!).

I'm glad sparkle is back safe and sound, that Ross' treatment is over and Lisa's TOM showed up! Welcome Snooks--natural PB is just fine--just make sure no sugar has been added. Smuckers has a reduced fat brand in the stores over here thathas added sweetners. Their regular natural PB is only peanuts, salt and oil. Don't be fooled by the low fat claims.

Hello everyone .

It seems that you are all doing great and staying on Program. I have been on program for the most part. I have not lost any more weight.I have been 175 for 2 months , but that is okay. I would love to maintain that over the summer and then get the last 10 pounds off in September. My TOM is here and I am miserable. I suffer from them terribly. I had an Endometrial Ablation done in January to help with the heavy bleeding. It did not work so next week I see the doctor and we may talk about possible hysterectomy. Yikes I am 35 years old. Though I can not go on like this. Last night I wanted girl guide cookies so bad. I had some in the freezer.I took the box out and put it on the counter. I never opened them. I was really proud of myself. Though I have been eating more bread SB legal of course.

Anyway Congrats on all your weight losses. It seems that you have maintained even though some of you have had some awful things happen in your personal life.

Take care

Good Morning Gals!

Hope everyone is doing well!

I'm up 5 pounds from my all time low and need you gals to give me the boot camp, marine corps version pep talk to get me on track again. I was sooooo motivated and was doing sooooo well, and since that camping trip when I got off plan a smidgen, it's been down hill.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MY GOODIE BAG!!!!
You are such a sweetheart!!!! For those of you who are wondering, Lara came over to my work on her lunch hour, brought me, cottage cheese, apples, SGWW crackers, cheese, evian water, and bath treats! What a friend! She knows I have been having a hard time keeping on plan!

Frog
Glad to hear your weight loss got noticed! That must be a big morale booster! Who's this Spewer chic??? At first I thought it was someone on board that I hadn't heard of before, but now I'm realizing this is your neighbor from ****? HOLY SMOKES!

Fillise
Thanks for sharing about your plateaus. It's good to pay attention to your body, that was you don't get so frustrated with things! That is so great you've lost 56 pounds. WOW, Double WOW!!!!

BOB
The cheese snacks sound good! My sister used to make something like that..she called it "Fried Cheese". There's a no-brainer! How did the ceremony go???
What are the "names" of some of these low carb stores? The desert seems to have pretty limited resources, except when it comes to Country Clubs, and golf courses and expensive restaurants! The area is growing, but the retail stores haven't caught up with the demand! There's some new things being built, but I wouldn't be suprised if it's more banks, and high end steak restaurants for all the wealthy to plunk their $$ in!

Gatorgal
I have a couple calorie books I could mail to you if you'd like. I don't use them anymore. If you want e.mail your address to my e.mail "Nofingfane@aol.com" and I square you away!

YOU GO GIRL!!!! That is soooooo AWESOME
Congratulations being under 200!!!!!! You're in a whole new category now!!!!!

Yoga sounds good, however I'd be like a weeble. Remember those toys "Weebles wabble, but they don't fall down". I'd be the exception to the case! We have a neat Yoga center next to a vegetarian restaurant called "Native Foods". I should check it out!

Glad your back! I was starting to get worried! I didn't get to hear about date "2". Glad to hear date 3 went well!

Well, need to get ready for work! Talk with you gals later!

Good Thursday Morning Everyone!

I wasn't able to get onto the board last night, actually, wasn't able to get on the board, period. Michael had a lot of homework and was up to all hours of the night-I went to sleep before 10pm. For those of you who have I/M'd me and got no response, just so you know I'm not being rude, when the kids are under my name, they won't answer-and you can assured if you get a automatic I/M back, that's means most definitely Michael is on my name, under AOL 6.0 - which I hate and never use! You'll have to excuse me if I'm not on as much as usual in the evenings during these last 2 weeks of school-Michael will be having a ton of work and that does take precedence.

Just got off the phone with my Mom, who is going to the hospital to fight with administration to get my Dad moved to a different hospital. My Dad's brother is an Internist and when he found out who his Dr. was and a procedure he wanted to do, well, lets just say he hit the roof. So, now my Mother has the task of trying to get through the bureaucracy of getting the ins. to pay for him to be moved and cared for at another hospital. He's doing fine, thank goodness, but will not be going home any time soon. I plan on going to see him before having to pick Michael up from school today.

Let's see, hmm, I can tell you that I hate my scale. It's almost mid-cycle for me and the scale isn't being nice-I'm up a pound from yesterday. I know this will go back down, but as always, I hate seeing the numbers go up. I also realized that since I began doing small bits of jogging in my walking that I've probably gained some muscles-all in my calf muscles, and maybe that's another reason I'm up, though I doubt I gained that much just in my legs, in such a short time. At least I have to look on the bright side, I haven't gone all the way back up to 135! I'm still hopeful I'll hit goal next month:)

After seeing the numbers on the scale and wondering why I get out there every day and exercise, I really didn't feel like going and let time slip by me until I finally decided to stop making excuses and get out there-did 3.5 miles, walking only, before having to come home and take Lauren to school.

TODAY IS RECIPE DAY so if you have any great SB LEGAL RECIPES you'd like to share with the board, please, try to post them today. I'll try, if time permits, to get a couple on there as well.

VIV, nice article-we have a celebrity on the board;) I didn't care too much of her insight on SB, but thought your input was good and gave some backbone to this WOE. She says she is going to try SB-are you going to guide her??? BTW, hope you are feeling better!!!

KAREN, CONGRATS on 2lbs gone!! Sick or no sick, you lost!! Take it and run. I'm sorry to hear about your FIL, my condolences to you and your family.

BEACH, thanks for the tip. The carpet's dry though, will it work on a stain that I've tried to remove already with the steamer???

NANCE, LOL, the only other time I was successful in losing weight WAS on the RS Deal-A-Meal. I was on the Sally Show with Richard about 5-6 years ago. Unfortunately, I hadn't realized I had an emotional eating problem, which is why I gained alot of the weight back-times got tough, and for me, when the going got tough, the tough went eating! Beat me for suggesting those Droste! If chocolate is a trigger food for you, it's best to stay far away from it until near maintenance. So, Dan is going to do SB with you???? What a guy!!!

FROG, glad to hear you had a good time with your family, they really are proud of you it seems. I can totally relate with your Mother-I was an emotional eater as well and did many of the same things when it came to buying food. If only we could detox people for a few weeks, they would see what these refined foods really do to not only their bodies, but their minds. That's nice that your Father wants to help her, but ultimately, it has to be her decision to take the bull by the horns and do something. Same thing I am going through with my 13 year old daughter at this time. Nothing I say helps-it has to be up to her. My Mom said she went through the same thing with me! I'm happy you and FILLISE got to meet, and I'll look forward to seeing whatever pics were taken up on the board!! As for parents, no, they are home, thankgoodness. They were up in Hendersonville at my Grandparent's "Mountain House" (trailer-they have a home here in Miami). They went to Atlanta for the weekend and came home Sunday night-this all happened Monday morning, thankfully, here in Miaimi. Heck, I better NOT plateau here at this weight-I better get into the 120's-and soon!!!!

FILLISE, CONGRATS! That's a great loss this week, and 56 pounds overall so far is awesome! You may want to go to the WW board and ask anyone over there if they have the old book, or the recipe. I wasn't able to find anything on the web.

AMSER, how I can relate to the love/hate relationship you are having with the scale! Just know, if you are being true to plan, and you can be patient, the scale will go down PERMANENTLY! I've always been totally honsest with the board and even though I don't like having to post my ups and downs on the scale, I do so so others can see that this is normal, even when one doesn't cheat and exercises. You'd think that I'd have a loss each week, but it just doesn't work that way. When May started, I weighed exactly what I do at the end of May. Mind you, in this period of time, I've walked well over 100 miles and stayed OP. I've weighed the same weight back in March! Without this board, I really don't know how I would of handled all of this! BUT, it helps me continue on, and keep things in proper perspective. I'm sure you'll be fine-just don't be a stranger during these tough times!!!!

SNOOKS, glad you joined us on the weekly board:) As you have heard from others, yes, cream cheese is fine-though I do suggest the light cream cheese with 1/3 less fat over the full fat one if it's available there. I personally like feta cheese, and for sandwiches any light cheddar is good. If you have Laughing Cow in the UK, they make a Light Cheese in wedges, those too are good. The PB is easy to make-if you have a food processor-it's a wiz!

ICESKATE, nah, probably my lungs are blackening with being among the car soot (no smoke soot here now) when I walk, but oh well, I'm not ready to walk outside with a mask just yet. I see SPARKLE posted!

CHERI, CONGRATS on your loss and the NEW LOW!!!:spin:

LISA, DOUBLE CONGRATS!!! Thank goodness your TOM arrived and down 3lbs - UNDER 200! A definite reason to celebrate!! You must be feeling wonderful! Glad to hear all went well with Ross' procedure:)

QUILTER, you had me laughing. I didn't even realize about having a little SPEWER in my house. FROG could of given me some tips! Thanks for those spewing carpet recommendations! Good luck with your speech today-I'm sure you'll shine!

GATOR, I write everything down more than use fitday.com-there are 2 sites I use that are on the TIPS & TOOLS BOARD.

SPARKLE, so there you are! CONGRATS on your loss and the new low!! Forgive me for not sending out that letter yet-bear with me, things have been hectic! Sounds like you have had another nice date with this guy. How old is he and what does he do? Is he cute? Do I sound like a nosey Mother?? That's great you are getting things done and taking time to do what you want-check in whenever you are able-we love hearing from you!!!

GARDEN GIRL, don't worry, I too have been about the same weight for over 2 months now. Today I am 133, and I hit 133 back on 3/24/00-I'm just going with the flow, not much else I can do-I'm eating right and exercising-only thing I can think of would be to cut the fat off! Kudos for just looking at those cookies!

BOB, sounds like you are having a fun time shopping! What else have you been up to doing?? Did you find the Carbolite soft serve?? I've seen those tubes of paste-let me know how they are!! Be careful coming home-I'm sure you heard about that pile up on I-4 a few days ago, so just take it easy on the way back. Let Skeeter drive if you get tired!!!!

Well, I guess it's time for me to finally hit the road, I started this post before 10am and it's almost 11:30 now! I'll try to check in later if the computer is free.

Have a wonderful day!

Just a quick hello to all of you gals. Yes, I have the Holiday jitters with trying to get everything done before we leave in am. Sooooo much to do.

Debbie Yes, I am a procrastinator also. I need to iron, pack, etc. Glad to hear that your dad is doing ok. Where abouts in Orlando would I be able to find the Agave Nectar? Do you know? Hoping to find some SB legal stuff in New Smyrna. Am bringing a few things with us from home. Oh, BTW, have you tried the SB, Authors' Choice Multi Grain Bread?? It is WONDERFUL! I tasted it as we left the store & DH was afraid I'd eat the whole loaf before we got home with it... Didn't make my goal, still at 151, a single lb away from goal. But that's ok cause I feel good about my accomplishment & setting a new goal of 140. I think that's where I want to be.

Rosalie how about you? You packed & ready to go?? Hope you gave a great Holiday!!

GatorGal do you think you will join SolShine & I for a get-together next week? I hope so. Would love to meet both of you.

SolShine, I got a library card today & hopefully I can get to a computer at the library in New Smyrna on Monday. If not, I will give you a call to discuss final plans. So sweet of you to try to arrange this meeting. DH thought it was a good idea too.

VIV Great article!! Proud of you girl!

OK ya'll, I will hopefully check back before I go to bed tonight. Hope all of you are doing ok. See ya !!

I have not posted in a while but of course I am always lurking. There are so many new people. We have lost so many people and that is frustrating.
I have been sitting at 180 to 186 for about 3 months. My meds really play havoc with my system but that is ok. I sat at 320 for years and 225 for years so this is great for me. It will start again I am sure.
Those of you that are here please stick with the program. For those of you who do not know me I do WW and SB. Also for those of you do not know me it has been said I am the sergeant at arms. I have something to complain about -- you may take it for what it is worth.
This board is to help everyone -- to support one another - to give one another ideas - recipes, etc. Yes we get involved in one anothers lifes in regards to our families.
I was very displeased and disgusted with Frog Lover's post from the other day. We do not need to be talking about such things on this board. So she is having problems with this particular person -- please keep them to yourself. I have been on this board for over a year and not once has there been anything sexual mentioned. It shocked me. I see where some of you have chosen not to say anything. I am not that way. So take it for what it is worth.
I hope to see that kind of discussion stopped and never mentioned again.
Thanks for listening and continued success to all of you through your trials and tribulations.

Melf--If I can I will join you. I’ll let Solshine fill me in on the details. It would be fun to get together. SolShine, let me know the plans when they come together, please. :)

SolShine--I met your DH in person (!) today at Fitness Coach. He was just finishing a work out and then Jim was showing him how to do the spinning bikes. Up, down, up, down, as he pedelled. Ugh. I really don’t like the cycling. But he looked like he was really into it. Jim will give him a really hard spinning workout if he can get in one of his classes. I tried it once. I used the mike that Jim was using to coach him and introduced myself as GatorGal. I presume he knew who that was.

Gonna play tennis tonight, and am really happy about that. Gotta go.

BTW, Barb. A little sugar with your suggestion would have made it just a bit "nicer." A gentle reminder is enough for us here because we all--Frog included--are great gals who don't intentionally set out to step on anyone's toes.

For someone who only lurks rather than reads and posts on a regular basis, I am deeply disturbed that you chose to go for the throat. I have shared many interesting things about the people in my life, including this woman, and people on this board have asked me for more info about this person. Perhaps if you took the time to read posts more often you would have known that.

I am very angry and for the first time since starting this board in October don't know if I want to continue. You have alot of nerve lady!!!! Regardless of whether or not you refer to yourself as the "sargeant-at-arms around here" does not give you the right to tell me what I can and can't post. I suggest that if you don't like what I have to say that you skip the messages with my name next to them.

I too am outspoken.

You truly are sugar-free.

To all of you who've gotten to know me here:

I am taking a very long break from this board. I am sitting here in tears and am so hurt and disgusted at what has transpired today. I was preparing pictures to post, because I enjoy sharing with all of you, when I read Barbara's vile comments followed by an email from Deb.

This is a very difficult thing for me to do and I am saddened at the thought of removing myself from such a valuable support system. But if I wanted to be mistreated, it won't be by people who don't even know me.

I have deleted the email that some of you found offensive. My sincerest apologies to those of you who were offended and graciously opted to keep it to yourself. To those of you who found my posts interesting and entertaining, thank you for your comments.

Good Luck, Adieu and Peace,

Frog

Big Orange, where are you when we need you!!!
You could bring some sanity to this unfortunate state of affairs. Come on home, girl.

Frog--Please don't react so hastily. Please. It makes us all sad. To leave this board because of Barbee's comments is allowing those remarks to control you, and that is not good. Think of Sparkle and her last post. She presented such a great picture of self-control and resolve, and took responsiblity for her own actions. Don't let someone else's actions direct what you do. Just let those words, that we know hurt, pass on by and continue on as a contributor. I, for one, have been inspired by your success with losing weight and it has spurred me to keep on keeping on.

To all SBers who post: Please take this to heart--
"Consider the interests of others more important than your own."
If you do, it will affect words you use to post and it will help you give grace to those who may not write exactly what you might write. And it will help you give grace to those who may react with an overly strong post. None of us is perfect, so let's try to use kindness and patience when we "get together" on this board.

Nuff said! :)

Debelli--Someone was kind enough to go to the Tips and Tools board and bring it up to the top of the list, so now I have it. Thanks. I think I'll need to redo some of my settings so I won't lose things like that. Although I could have just gone to your welcome message at the beginning of every week.

We had a big thunderstorm--lightening but no rain. So my tennis was thundered out! :(

Please, don't ANYONE leave the board. You all have become friends, and friends learn to communicate with each other through trial and error. We now know that some may take offense at certain subjects. These subjects were not brought up to intentionally upset anyone. Let's ALL go on from here with the understanding that there are things that are best not submitted for the board at large.

I agree with everything that Gator Gal said, and she said it so much better than I could.

We leave early Fri. morning for the funeral and I won't be able to read or post until sometime Sunday. Have a great weekend and let's all do our best to stay SB legal so we can kick that one-eyed monster next Wed.

I just wanted to get a few words posted now to those of you that are traveling in the next few days. Karen, you and your family have a safe trip. Despite it beening under those circumstances, I sincerely pray that your husband and the rest of you will feel the love and comfort from those that will be surrounding you. Mary, and Marie both of you have a WONDERFUL vacation!!!! You both should be proud of yourselves for your dedication to this WOE....so kick back, relax and enjoy yourselves. All of you come back safe and sound and fill all of us in on all that you experienced on your trips. Oh, some advice for Mary and Marie..."If you can't be good, be good at it"!!!!!!! Take that however you want.

Debbie - I am going to work harder at posting during these off times I go thru. You may wish you hadn't advised it:lol: So far this week, I am feeling pretty up with things. I can not promise I can be 100% OP 100% of the time. Those times when I am not 100%, due to either my choice, or times I am in a compromising situation, I tell myself that that's the price I pay when the scale shows the results of my choices... Geeeesh, am I making sense??? Over all, I can sit here now going on 5 months and say I am feeling pretty darn good about myself. I am striving hard to take better care of myself nutritionally AND physically.

I will be busy tomorrow helping my dad move my grandmother's belongings into a retirement home. I amy not post tomorrow, but I will read the board when I get a chance. Everyone have a good night, and remember that tomorrow is TGIF!!!!!!! That means 2 wonderful days with my DH..woohhhhoooo!!!!!

I don't know where the time goes! I just know it goes w/o me! The past two days have flown by.

I volunteer 2 mornings a week at a NH. I do a Newspaper Group and a Reminiscence Group. I really enjoy them and it keeps my hand in. I was a Director of Recreational Therapy for 20 years working with geriactrics and head head trauma populations. I miss it.

Then there is choir practice on Wed. night and I also had to go shopping. I am NOT a shopper. You go in and get out! Unless it is an A.C. Moore or Micheals store.

I had gained a couple of pounds and they were staying with me. I am pleased to say that yesterday the scale showed the beginning of what I hope will be a downward trend!

I figured out I was cutting back on the carbs and protein too much. I thought I would do better with less but it apparently doesn't work that way for me!

Will try to catch up w/ a few thoughts......

TIGGERME - I know what you mean about stripping for the scale. The nurse at my dr office weighs you in hall on way to exam room. I want to kick off shoes, empty pockets......I would do a Gypsy Rose Lee if I could get away w/ it!

CATLOVER - Glad you had a safe trip. It is a long day isn't it? My daughter was born w/ mouth deformities and we had a regular 3 hr run one way for treatments. I hope all will be well for Ross.

ICESKATEFAN - Small world department. Living so close and having taught in Slidell. I also am a ice skate fan. I never miss watching, although I do not skate myself.

SNOOKS - I use the neufchatel cream cheese by Philadelphia. As someone else mentioned I like it on celery sticks, crackers and I also like it on pieces of pepper.

THE QUILTER - Thanx for the compliments. I try to keep a sense of humor about myself.

I forget who mentioned yoga. I don't like exercise groups. I feel too self conscious looking the way I do. Although I did go regularly to a water aerobics class called the "Rusty Hinges", you know there were no bathing beauty figures there.

One time I did go to an execise group. Now I don't like to cry uncle and will go til I drop. I was doing my best to keep up w/ group. No A/C in this place and it was hot. I finally collapsed, panting like an old wart hog looking for something good. I was so embarrassed. everyone was so concerned and there I laid like a beached whale, too big to be pushed back into the ocean. I've never been to an exercise class since!! I know I am a coward, but...................

Bored enough. Goodnight all.

Dear Barbara,

I too have found this board to be unusually supportive in the months that I have been here. I have never read any "rules" on what can or can't be posted, but the most impressive thing I have noticed about the SB board is that PEOPLE are more important than RULES.

Thanks to my roomie, who is a forum administrator, I know it takes a lot of time and money to maintain this board. Perhaps you should start your own board, where you pay all the bills and fix database errors all day long. Then you can feel free to censor members so that no "sexual" comments ever reach your virgin ears, although if you have been on the Internet for over a year, I'm surprised you are shocked by anything. Until then, you have no right to determine what kind of discussion should be "stopped" and "never mentioned again."

Perhaps others chose not to mention anything because you are the only one who was offended. Personally, Frog is one of the main reasons that I chose to post here on a daily basis for so long, despite my busy schedule. I always find her posts to be both entertaining and inspiring. It is a shame that SHE is the one who decided to take a break from this board because she contributes so much more than you do.

Since you are such an outspoken person, I am sure you can take it as well as dish it out...you owe Frog an apology, Barbara.

Much aloha,

Chris

Good Morning all!! Well we are packed & ready to head out this a.m. We had a really good rain yesterday, so AMSERAPHIM,remember we talked about God watering our garden while we were gone??? :D It looks like it will be wet for a while.

Hope to check the board Monday & find that this STORM has passed. It has often been said that we do not bicker or go for other's throat here on this board & that is one of the things that others have enjoyed about this board also. I hope that the difference of opion here can quickly be dealt with & we can move on. I'm not taking sides either way about the comments that have been made, only that we all enjoy getting to know each other & that it is a safe place that we can not only share, but vent also!

Good Friday Morning Everyone.

Well, I really don't even know how to address the board on what has transpired here since yesterday. Since the inception of this board, we have never had a problem remotely close to this one arise. This board has been singled out as being the friendliest board on the 3FC'S site and suddenly, something like this occurs and all heck breaks loose. I honestly don't know what to say. I do not want to openly point fingers at anyone. If there is a sticky issue that must be addressed, I feel e-mail is the best way, not the open forum.

You must understand my position being the moderator and founder of this particular board. It's not always an easy task. I have given up much to keep this board going-including an income I so desperately need. This board means the world to me, and when it hurts I hurt. I take this board VERY personally and what has transpired, I have taken personally as well.

I hope we can all just let this go from here on, it's over, it's done with, enough said. I'd like to try and forget about this, if that can be done.

I would like to say to FROG, I don't want you to leave. I've laughed at too many of your posts that have brightened my days, as I have with so many other posts. Don't let this one incident take you away from us. Do know that there are many who feel the same:)

And on that note, I am going to stuff my face this morning. Not only am I upset about what's transpired on the board, but on the scale as well. I'm up ANOTHER POUND! No reason but being mid-cycle, so I pray it will start it's usual trend back down, but it wasn't something I needed to see today, (or any other day), that's for sure. I am not even bothering to go walk today-now, you all know that this is really gotten to me-NO WALK! Can you even imagine if I attempted to cheat what would happen! Here I am staying OP 100% and exercising-and I'm gaining weight! UGH! I want to cry!!!!

I'll check in with you all later.

FROG, DON'T GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU BRING TOOO MUCH TO THIS THREAD!!! I completely concur with the rest of the posters on here who stand firmly behind you! I love your posts! I love meeting you in the chat room! I love your support and wit and contributions here! I'm with ICESKATEFAN and I feel like the attack was on me, too.

I'm apalled that someone who hardly ever posts on here has the gall to post such a flaming post. I agree 100% with GATORGAL - there are more mature ways to handle things.

GATORGAL - YOU ARE ONE CLASSY LADY! Your words are "fitly spoken like apples of gold and pitchers of silver". You are #1 in Vince's book! He absolutely LOVES The Fitness Coach! We wouldn't be there if it weren't for you. :) He paid me a "surprise" visit after his work-out yesterday and the first thing out of his mouth was, "I got to meet GATORGAL!" :D I think Jim used your "real" name when he introduced you and then when you said GATORGAL the lights came on. If it didn't appear to click with him he was probably wiped from the very hard work-out and then spinning. I told them when my rear-end will fit on those seats I'll THINK about ATTEMPTING to do that spinning! I'll also certainly keep you in the loop on the plans to meet with MELF!! We'll try to figure out a time when all 3 of us can meet.

MELF - Looking forward to SEEING you soon!

I'll post more later when my blood pressure goes down and I calm down some more.

I know that I said I was going to take a break, and I was, but I've gotta respond to this so that it will all hopefully end.

First, I felt the need to respond to Barb's barbs and maybe it would have been best to have let her comments go. But I didn't earn my nickname "Mouth of the South" for being the silent-type.

Secondly, this board is important to me and I have been successful as a result of it. I was beginning to feel that if I was sitting at my desk crying as a result of something that someone else wrote, that I was getting a little over invested in this.

Thirdly, the out-pouring of support in the form of emails, private messages and posts has shown me that I do have a place here and that I would miss you all very much if I didn't interact with you on a regular basis. I kept feeling like it was a break-up, like the kind you go through in junior high! I was saddened.

The biggest regret that I have is that others have been hurt too and that I deleted the entire message rather than the mention of SEX (BTW - you know your Momma's had it! :o ). I made comments in there to many of you and shared the wonderful visit I had had with my family. Perhaps that is what bothers people the most, that you are happy and successful.

I appreciate that many of you have written posts in support of me, but I hope that we can all let the dust settle and return to the decorum that we are all used to.

I also want you all to know that Deb has written me several times in the past 24 hours to share her comments with me on this. I believe that she has taken positive steps toward rectifying this situation. She is very committed to this board and it is even more evident in the wake of this uprising. Please remember to show her how much you appreciate her. She is a wonderful person and we are lucky and blessed to have her as our moderator. "Another crisis averted ma'am, SUPER DEB is on the job!"

I will attach the pic from the beach that I wanted to share and one of my parents going to a 60's party. I hope no one takes exception to them, but if you do, please email me, my address is available on this board.

Peace (please),
Frog

Hello everybody!!!!

SEF---I am THRILLED to hear that you are a volunteer. I LOVE volunteers!!!!!! I wish everybody could be a volunteer. I train the volunteers who come through our non-profit and have had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people. I’d love to hear more about what you do at the nh and any interesting experiences you’ve had there. Since it’s not really about sb, we could talk about it off the board. I have several email addresses, but try kgalati@cinci.rr.com. That’s if you ever have a free minute and want to share some of your insights. I’d love to hear your thoughts on how best to train volunteers and support them and stuff like that. . . . Also really cringed right along with you during your telling of the exercise class. Ugh!!! I know what it’s like to be in a group of skinny minnies and be the ONLY one who just cannot possibly take one more step let alone something even more draining. Have you ever tried doing some exercise videos in the privacy of your own home??? I really like doing that . . .then I can wear (or not wear) whatever I want. Now when I do my treadmill, there are days when I just wear shorts and a sports bra and BELIEVE me I would NEVER do that in public!!!! Anyways, here’s the thing I like about my yoga class. The teacher is fantastic and is very much about us listening to our bodies and hearing when the say STOP, ENOUGH ALREADY!!!! He makes it not be about competing with the person next to you. And I just have to add that the stretching feels great. I take my next door neighbor who is in her upper 60’s. She’s in great shape and goes to the gym all the time, but has a bad back and doesn’t have a lot of flexibility in her legs. We’re hoping that this stretching helps her in both those areas. Whew . . . I had a lot to say to you.

AMSER---Hey, I can relate to what you said to Deb about being off and on the program. But I am going to give you a 100% heartfelt congratulations for doing so well. And for seeing the good things that have come out of your efforts. So often we concentrate on what’s left . . . but I’m telling you . . . find joy in the moment!!! (A theme for me now!!!) And YOU DID IT!!!!! You are exactly right about keying in on the fact that you are taking better care of yourself. Way to go. Besides, you will probably burn a ton of calories helping your dad today. Hope it goes well for you and that you all have better weather there than we do here. It’s raining and will continue throughout the weekend. If you listen closely, you can actually hear the weeds growing in my back yard. Ugh!!!! I am stressed over that!!!!!

DEB---Go take your walk . . . and while you’re walking say all the things you wish you could say on the board. Your adrenalin will probably skyrocket and you’ll have your best time yet. I am off to the grocery store and then will hit the treadmill when I get home from there.

----------

Okay, Ladies! I know we need to forget about what happened yesterday, but I have at least two cents worth I want to throw in. You can read it or skip it . . . your choice. But here goes.

1. If I have a beef with somebody on this board (and I haven’t until NOW), you can bet that I will deal with them personally and privately and not drag everybody else in on it. It’s not fair to embarrass somebody in front of hundreds of people just because you don’t like what they said. Show a little class and do it in private. If you don’t know how to do it in private, ask Deb. She can tell you how to do private messaging or email if you need that help.

2. We are all ADULTS!!!! (No news flash, right???) As far as I’m concerned . . . we are allowed to talk about sex. (Heck we have even have it if we want to.) I know that’s not what this board is about or for, but if the subject comes up that’s just what happens. Relax. In this case, it was a first time occurance. It’s not like everytime Frog posted she was bringing up another page from the kama sutra. It was just a story that happened to be about sex. If she had continually been talking about specific sexual stuff, I would start to get the “willies” and wonder what was up with her. But that’s not what happened. And EVERYBODY on this board knows that Frog is NOT that way!!!

3. Think before you type. Don’t say anything on this board out of anger or to make somebody upset. IT’S NOT WHO WE ARE HERE. This board is to support. We are not here to drill our opinions into others. If I don’t especially like reading certain people’s posts, I SKIP them. (I hope you will do the same with me if I irritate or bore you.) Just because I don’t enjoy reading something, doesn’t mean that that person should leave the board and not post. Or that they deserve a tongue-lashing from me. It just means that maybe we have different personalities. That’s it.

I feel for ICESKATE when she says the board is tarnished now. I hope she and FROG both stick with us. They have a lot of good to say and a lot of support to give. I feel for DEB who puts so much time and caring into this board. She only wants everybody to succeed in their weight loss efforts. She doesn’t want upset or negativity on this board. I agree with GATOR that we should speak to others the way we want to be spoken to and to do that ALWAYS out of kindness.

That’s it for me. I’m get off my soapbox now. Had gotten on this morning to tell you all about the wonderful graduation cerremony last night, but don’t feel up to sharing that now.

Take care.

My parents went to a 60's party and really got into it! They even tie-dyed their own shirts! My friends call DH and I "Darma and Greg" and now I have the proof that I have Darma's parents!

My parents don't really look like this!!

Now if these don't make you laugh...

How time flies! I have missed you all so much. I really find that when I'm away from you I'm missing something.

Well, the conversion and post deployment is almost complete, which means my life can return to what can be deemed as normal. A lot of work ahead as the end of year is looming. Time for teachers to turn in time sheets they have been holding all year and us to try to pay everyone by their June 29th check. It will happen, always does, weekends are a requirement though.

Michael is being Baptized on Saturday. I'm really excited about this. It should be really special.

I have though a lot about printing all that I have missed, in fact I did print some of it, but my printer is acting up and it's illedgible, so I'm having to start fresh.
If any one has the time to give me a brief summary of what's been going on in your life and others, I would appreciate it. I plan to ask Nancy if she can give me a quick catch up!

I did go visit Chris' (Sparklescamp) website last night. I have to say it's stocked full of information and links! Thanks, for taking so much time to provide good information.

I'm back at 160lbs. as of Wednesday and plan to battle it all the way. I'm going to make it to 150, just don't know if I'll make it by July like I had planned. I would be happy to lose 5lbs by then. We will see. I really would like to be done with the weight loss by my next surgery, which is August 13. This is the big one and liquids and purees will be my best friend for 10 days, so I don't want to be struggling along, I want to have my weight steady and my feet firmly planted. I have lost my structure, due to bordom of the same old thing I think. I have to find some variety and get snacks of fruit and such back at the office. (Yes, Nance I keep you supplied, but I let mine dwindle.)

Debelli, I have a question. I found a wonderful treat that I can have at Starbucks! I would like to double check with you that it is totally legal and if not how it can be tweaked so that it is.

Iced Decaf Caffe Latte w/ a shot of Sugarfree Vanilla

I love coffee, but my stomach can't tolerate caffiene. I've had this a few times and it's wonderful. Just want to make sure it's ok and I know you have connections! Thanks so much.

I hope all of you are well. I'll be checking back tonight!

Good morning all. Today is the first day of a new beginning for me. I have chosen to give up sweets in any shape or form until I reach a mini-goal. I have decided to set up mini-goals to help me keep on track instead of shooting for just 1 large weight loss. My first mini-goal will be 10 lbs however long it takes.

I noticed that there were some fireworks on the board last nite. Please nobody leave. I look to yall for inspiration, motivation and good old fashioned friendship. What happened yesterday is the past, tomorrow is the future and today is the present (thats why its called a gift) so lets go on from here.

Deb - please dont let what happened undo all your hard work. I appreciate what you do for this board and didnt realize how much you gave up to maintain this board. You are definitely a role model for successive weight loss.

Those going on vacations, have wonderful and safe trips. Everyone else have a wonderful day and a good weekend. I will be out on the golf course shortly with the dh. Will try and check in later.

Oh my--go to the movies one evening and all heck breaks lose on the board.

Renee--I'm so glad you are staying! Gator said it best--so I'm not going to stir the pot further. Just know that I, for one, would miss you terribly if you left us!

I went to see Bridget Jone's Diary last night--a fun movie. The book was hilarious and the movie is good too. It was nice to have a fun night out with the girls!

I'm busy getting ready for my trip to New York. I leave for NC on Tuesday and we fly out of Raleigh on Friday. We will stay until the next Tuesday. I love the visit the city and am hoping my niece will have a good time as well.

The program is going well--holding steady this morning, which is to be expected after a week of good loss.

I hope the vacationers all have good, safe trips and we will look forward to hearing from you when you return!

Good day everyone!

So many post to read, and so little time to respond!!!

First of all, I need some one to through a life preserver overboard and pull me back in. My 8 pound loss, has turned into only a mere "3" now....I am getting so depressed that I have gotten off track and NEED SOME BUTT KICKIN' HERE ON BOARD!!!!!!

Debs First and foremost I NEED to see that Sally tape! I can't believe you were on TV! HOLY SMOKES!!!!!
I need to find out about this "emotional eating stuff" and how to grab it by the horns, and wrestle it to the ground. I didn't get to be this weight being in a good frame of mind obviously, low self-esteem, whatever, so if ANYONE has read any good books about WHY we over-eat, sabotage ourselves, and how to overcome it, I NEED IT!!!!!

Sef
I could completely relate to your exercise class nightmare. One of my friends is a fitness instructor and I went to one, I repeat ONE, of her Reebok (sp?) SLIDE classes. I was BRIGHT RED, sweeting like a HS boy football player, and was ready to pass out. That's when I decided walking outside suits me just fine! Maybe when I get down to a normal weight I could handle it, but not now!

Frog
Your family and mine must be related! We have the crazt, same since of humor! I was laughing so hard at the beach picture. Have you seen that commecial on TV for some hair remover, and the lady lifts up her arm, and you'd think she lived in EUROPE! OH MY GAWD!!!
We also have insane family parties. We really go nuts at Halloween. I have some great pictures I could share, but don't have a scanner. Maybe I could ask the boss-man to let me use his at work, and I'll show you my last years get up! EVERYONE in my family goes all out, and we play our favorite tunes like "Brick House" and "Play that Funky Music White Boy" and even my 78 year old Mom gets out there and shakes her stuff! It's hilarious!
Lots of good times to remember. At Christmas, we usually buy each other the most outdated music c.d.'s we can find as jokes. My favorite is the disco rollerskating 80's one I got for my sister, and the joke is she says everyone in her house fights over who gets to listen to it!

Well, I seriously need to get in the shower!!! and get to WORK!

ldblondHEY????? When did you become the monkey???? What about being the custom "avatar" Queen????? I still have snack at MY OFFICE, if you want to come on over!

Barbee
I don't know you and haven't seen you post once since I've been on board since April, but my Mom always told me from the bible "Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone", she also told me "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". I love my Mom, she is one of the sweetest people in the world.
I am hurt that you would have publicly said something to someone, if front of everyone. It brought the whole morale DOWN on the board, and the whole reason we are all here to to get our spirits UP! Frog is a great person, has posted daily, and has been a true Gift to the board. I think a mountain was made out of a mole hill! I agree with the other gals, if you don't want to read something, just go past it. Hope you will be able to contribute some POSITIVE vibes next time you decide to post. We are all here for each other, we all have different poersonalities, and are different ages, from different parts of the country. That's what makes the board so great!

Now I'm LATE for work!!!!! Enough said. As Debs says, "TOODLES!"

Listen Gals, I have my usual minus two minutes to do anything but I was alerted to what was up on the board, so here are my two cents (maybe three)....

1. This is a wonderful place. Let's keep it that way.
2. Having been on the boards for 3 or 4 years now (middle age has a way of making us forget these things, LOL), I have only taken offense at what someone has said once. It took a lot of thinking to decide whether or not to address it, as even tho we are all friends, this is a BOARD and we need to keep it in perspective. How important is the gripe? In this ONE case, I emailed the person directly. I would never, ever vent my anger or frustrations publicly here so as not to embarrass that person publicly, and to keep the boards the happy and supportive places they are.
3. We're big girls. I didn't read Frog's post in question and now that it's been deleted, I guess I won't but, puhleeze, was it X-rated?

Let's try to stay respectful, ESPECIALLY in light of the effort DEB has made to help us all be SUCCESSFUL! DEB's efforts are worth that moment of thinking..."Am I doing the right thing?"

I gotta go clean the toilets. My 7 YO DS has issues with his aim, LOL.....

I'll try to post more soon, it has been such a rough and busy time. I'm trying to stay OP amidst lots of challenges.

Thanks for the best wishes for my DAd, he is healing slowly and unfortunately things with his "wife" are not good, so they are dragging me into it (from 3000 miles away that's not an easy feat!). I am trying to be mature and reasonable and practical about it all without running to chocolate. Now THAT is why I need this board!!!!!

Hugs to you ALL!

Gatorgal: you are amazingly wise, I wish I had 1/10 of your diplomacy.

Frog: so glad you're still here! (WHEW) And your "SEXY" (can I say that) pic with the lovely underarm hair was just WILD! I loved the pic of your parents too. More! More!

Deb: I really appreciate all the efforts you have put into this board, you have been a big inspiration for me to move ahead with my goals: the website, weight loss, sugarbusters, everything.

Barbara: If you are SO daring and outspoken, why haven't you bothered to respond? It doesn't take a lot of courage to send hurtful words over an anonymous forum. There are REAL PEOPLE here. It takes courage to admit you were wrong and apologize.

Everybody else: the caring shown here has been amazing! I don't think ANY board can have such strong traffic for years and never bicker. Repectfully speaking, the board is not "tarnished" because of one fight. "A woman is like a teabag...you don't know how good she is until she's in hot water." ~ Eleanor Roosevelt (I think)

***

Now, this has been three full days of tackling my Internet addiction. The first two days I was so busy, not to mention in tears most of the time from my boss riding my a$$, that I didn't have time to worry about it. Finally my boss left town and yesterday I was left to my own devices. I did start to get bored and distracted, especially since I was working on an EXTREMELY tedious project involving fixing the cost basis of dozens of stocks, ugh. But I stood fast and sloshed through my work, however slowly, without getting on the Internet (although I slipped and quickly read a few emails). But today is the real test because I have to dig into my selling projects. After three days I just realize how VERY distracted from my goals I have gotten lately. I don't think it's because I'm lazy or a bad person, just that I got my priorities out of order. Other things seemed more immediate at the time.

Okay, gotta finish getting dressed. Skipped the gym and am going to attempt to get away at lunch and go.

Love,

Chris

Hello Everyone!!!

Well, I am certainly enjoying my day off!!! Getting that laundry all finished always makes me feel great!!! For two people you wouldn’t think it would be that big of a deal, but we must be clothes horses or something.

I wanted to tell you all about my great evening last night. I was asked to be on the program at the Cinti Public Schools Adult Basic Education Graduation. Actually, my boss was first asked, but had to be out of town, so I was next on the list. There were 100 graduates and the ceremony was held at the Univ of Cincinnati in one of their big halls. What a great and inspiring evening. These people were really excited. So many of them have such difficult lives to begin with . . . unfulfilling jobs, large family responsibilities, sickness, etc . . . and they all put in the work to pass this series of incredibly difficult tests. Let me tell you the house was jumping!!!! My job was to honor all the other non-graduating ABE students and also the volunteers. (See SEF, I love those volunteers!) So I just gave a brief little talk about them and then read off the names. The names was the toughest part. The hardest name had about 20 letters in it and luckily the woman was sitting right next to me on the stage. So she coached me on the proper way to say it. She was incredible. Probably in her early 60’s had come from Moscow just this past January. She had been chosen to give a short speech on her life and what adult ed means to her. FANTASTIC!!!! She’s brilliant and has so much to offer. I felt honored to be sitting next to her. Also supt of schools and other “big wigs” were there. It was a really wonderful night. Paul went with me and really enjoyed it too. You can’t help but get caught up in the excitement for these fine people. Anyways, my speech went well. I wasn’t even nervous. I think because I was so fully focused on what was happening around me that “my comfort zone” wasn’t even an issue. Anyways, just wanted to share that little slice from my life.

Okay . . . speaking of “comfort zone” I have something else to share. Since it’s Friday Fitness day, I think this “fits” right in. As some of you may remember I have been reading this book called, The Body Code by Jay Cooper. I think it’s great!!!! He makes some really strong points about different bodies responses to different kinds of exercise and also diet. He does agree with SB in that he says refined stuff is a NO-NO. But anyways, I wasn’t reading it to look for a new woe, just to get a glimpse on what else might be causing my setback on losing. He talks about how some people make the drastic changes in their ways of eating and living when they are diagnosed with something life threatening like heart disease. (Evidently he was terribly heavy for most of his life and the doctor finally told him that he probably would only live ten more years if he kept up the way he was going. He was like 23 at that time.) I want to quote some of what he says on this subject.

. . . the reason that most people do what they do, especially when it comes to making life-altering changes, is because the cost of doing what they have been doing has become too great. The poor-health-related pain they are suffering, whether psychic or physical, has grown to the point that they’re willing to take steps to move away from that pain. They get to the point where they say, “I must,” or, “I have to make some changes.”---In my own case, I remember when I was a sophomore in college and weighed 242 pounds. One day after school I walked past my twelve-year-old brother’s bedroom. He had one of his friends in there, and I overheard the friend say, “What the matter with your brother? Why is he so fat?” And I heard my brother answer, “We don’t know what it is. He has something medical wrong with him that causes it.” I could hardly believe my ears. Here was my little brother making up a story about why I was so fat. The pain of that remark stabbed right through me. (He then goes on and sights another story from his life that I will omit.) --- . . . your motivation for change is highest when you are in extreme pain. That is the time when you realize, “I have to do something about this.” You have decided to change your habits. Deciding is half the battle.---But as you move from extreme pain toward the comfort zone, where you have not yet reached your goals but are feeling much better, your motivation diminishes. In fact, your motivation to continue your new behavior is at its lowest when your feelings are neutral. At this time, many people falter or stop. They have forgotten the feelings of pain. It seems that once we are in the comfort zone, we forget what it was like to be so miserable. Thus, the nicotine addict forgets what his lungs felt like; the alcoholic forgets that he lost his family and was lying in the gutter; the overweight person forgets the discomfort and embarrassment of being fat. This cycle can continue throughout life, from pain to the comfort zone and back to pain again, unless we do something to break the cycle. And to break it, what we need is not more knowledge, but an effective reminder of the things that we already know. (End of quote) He then goes into more specifics about effecive reminders.

Anyways, that’s me . . . I get so far, start to feel good, and look out, here comes all that bad behavior. I can feel that happening right now with me. Yes, I am exercising and I am so pumped up about that and it’s making me feel great!!! However, my eating is way off base. I am feeling like I look better (even though I’m no where near my goal) and that’s keeping me from doing what needs to be done. For years I thought it was Kim trying to sabatoge Kim (I’ve spoken of this before.), then I thought it was the cravings that were keeping me from eating right, now I’m really starting to wonder if it’s this comfort zone thing. I don’t know for sure . . . may never really know. But here’s the thing, I really felt like Mr. Cooper was describing me and wanted to share this with the rest of you. Hope it will ease some of your minds like it eased mine.

Sorry this was so long, but I didn’t know how to edit it down in length. That’s it from here. Have great weekends.
Take care!
Kim

Talk about a tempest in a teapot. Everyone has their knickers in a knot over something that would have passed by if such a fuss wasn't made.

I just felt like Frog was telling me a story and saw nothing wrong. She just stated a fact and it happened to be sexual in content. I'm a widow, but I remember sex! It was sort of fun!!!

So untie those knots and get back to being the board that drew me here.

I think Sparklescamp and Quilter said it all. Amen!

Glad Frog has decided to stay. From what I've read of back posts she is a wonderful correspondent.

My gdtr is all excited, she got her first job, working the concession stand at a movie house. She starts today. It seems so long ago that I had that same experience. I started behind the food counter at Green's 5 & 10 in Asbury Park, NJ. Some of you may remember what a 5 & 10 was.

QUILTER - Gee, you were so nice. Email coming.

Frog - I'm glad to see that you are still posting. I really hope you stay with us. Please don't let this episode keep you off the board. I look forward to your posts and you have contributed so much to this board.

As others have already said, I believe if anyone has any criticism to make it should be done privately by e-mail, not by posting on the board for all to see.

Deb - I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all you do for this board. I just want you to know that all the work you do is appreciated. I'm sure we can go back to being the friendly, supportive board that it has been so far.

Kim - Glad to hear that the Graduation ceremony went well. I liked the quote you posted about the COMFORT ZONE. I can really relate to that. Just this past week I was having that feeling and could feel my resolve slipping and had to give myself a kick in the butt.

All for now. Have a good weekend everyone.

Marie. :)

HEY ALL!!!! I love having enough time to keep up with things here. I subscribe to this Kashi newsletter that comes out. Below is a copy of the one I got tonight. Thought you all might be interested to hear what they said about fresh herbs. Enjoy!!!!

Using fresh herbs is a great way to add intense flavor to your dishes
without adding additional fat and calories. They not only taste
great but they give off exciting aromas that will wet your appetite
for an ethnic journey around the world - and lend gourmet flair
to your dishes. Are you familiar with using dried herbs and spices
in the kitchen but not so sure what to do with fresh herbs? Don't
worry, a lot of people feel the same way. Read our tips below for
using some common fresh herbs that will hopefully ease your fears and
get you started.

Basil:
This herb works great in both cold and hot dishes. For a
Mediterranean flavor, add whole basil leaves (removed from the stems)
to tossed green salads with a balsamic vinaigrette or add chopped
basil to tomato based pasta sauces. Add either chopped or whole
basil leaves to stir frys for more of a Thai flavor. It's best to
add basil to dishes at the end of the cooking process to preserve its
aromatic flavor.

Cilantro:
This herb, also known as coriander, is great for giving recipes an
authentic Mexican flavor. Add chopped cilantro to fresh salsas or add
to avocado with fresh lime juice for an amazing guacamole dip. Top
your favorite tacos with chopped cilantro or add it to burrito
fillings. Cilantro also works well with curry dishes or spicy soups
to create and Indian flavor.

Mint:
Fresh mint adds a cool and refreshing taste and is best used in
uncooked dishes. Add a few sprigs to cold dishes like fruit salads
or tossed green salads. Try adding a few sprigs to a fruit smoothie
for a refreshing treat. Mint also makes a great compliment to
chocolate, as many of us know.

Garlic:
Yes, garlic is an herb! Fresh garlic cloves work with just about any
recipe. The message here is that you almost can't add enough garlic.
Just watch out for your breath afterwards. Use it in soups, stews,
stir frys, pasta sauces, casseroles, and marinades. For a subtle
garlic flavor, take a fresh peeled clove and rub it on the bottom of
the pan you're using to cook dinner.

Rosemary:
This herb is easy to grow and a little goes a long way. Toss a sprig
of rosemary into the water you use to steam your vegetables and a
subtle hint of this herb will be infused into every bite. Throw a few
rosemary stems on your barbecue to add amazing aroma to your favorite
grilled dishes. Rosemary also adds wonderful flavor to fresh baked
breads and potato dishes.

That's it!!! Just two more things, SEF, you crack me up. How cute you are. Thanks for putting things into perspective. Also, DEB, we didn't finish up the sponge cake thing this afternoon. I'm going to the recipe board to look for it.
Have a great weekend.

Well, I decided to try using FitDay to chart my calories. It's really easy, especially if I put in custom items that I eat a lot. One question:
I notice that about 50% of what I eat is carbohydrates. I eat quite a few veggies and fruits. I had 1/4 of a large cantaloupe for a snack this afternoon, for example. Is that going to be a big no-no on the SB WOE? I had some rolled oats for breakfast, about 1/4 C rice mixed with lots of veggies as part of my lunch, and some more rice with dinner. Total calories today were 1239.

My DH is out of town, golfing with some guys at a golf resort. I don't complain, but I'm not crazy about him being gone almost all weekend for this sport. He'll get back about 4 pm. Sunday. I think it's because he's been gone quite a few nights for late meetings lately that it annoys me right now. He has been wanting me to learn how to play, and I have even bought some golf shoes. But I really do LOVE my tennis. More exercise and doesn't take as long. Oh well, guess I'll have to learn pretty soon. CatLover, aren't you a golf lover? Give me some encouragement here, and some reasons I should take it up.

Well, I'm gonna go vege out. I've been working on reports and plans all day for a meeting Monday night. So I'm gonna relax.

Evening All:wave:

Thought I'd get in a quick post before I go to sleep. I hope you all don't mind if I don't take the time to address each and everyone one of you individually, but collectively, I want to thank you all for all your kind words either posted, via e-mail or I/M's. I honestly think this event on our board this has brought us all much closer, this is the way I see it. Even though I haven't had the good fortune of meeting each and every person that contributes so greatly to this board, I feel like I know you all so well, and that each of you are friends-and I care greatly about my friends-so do know that I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for going through this not only with me, but with FROG as well. As the song says "That's What Friends Are For!"

I wanted to tell you last night, but didn't feel it was the right time for good news, that my story was accepted by Rodale to be in their book that is coming out for release in December. I don't know if I would break any rules if I post the copy of what's going into the book, so I better abstain just in case-BUT, it does mention our board!!! I'm going to ask the person if it would be okay to share it with you before doing so.

I have to admit to making the WW SPONGE CAKE today-and admit to eating more than 1/2 of it:^: It was one of those days-what can I say!

Anyhow, I am hoping for good garage sales and good garage sale weather tomorrow. Eli is off, so that will be nice, hope we do something in the evening. Poor guy has been working his butt off the last week. I'll check in with you all sometime tomorrow.

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Just a quickie.

SPARKLESCAMP - Liked the quote. I learned it differently....."A woman is like a tea bag---she doesn't know how STRONG she is until she's in hot water!" Either way I want to be like that. When you mention places in HI it brings back many memories. My dtr lived in HI and I visited her. She took me all over the islands, they are sooooo beautiul. She lived on the big island, kahlua Kona. She is a nurse. She always volunteered for the Ironman Triathalon. Has gone back each year to participate.

QUILTER - Check your email. You may be sorry you asked me!!!!

RHROO - Take those 3# anyway you can and congratulate yourself.

I want to thank all for making me feel so welcome. I look forward to reading the board and am always checking first thing when I go online to see if anything new has been written.

Goodnight!

Good morning everyone!

Whew, it is nice to see things calmed back down. I have a good day of physical activity ahead of me as we are cleaning out the church basement in preparation for Vacation Bible School in two weeks. I'm looking forward to being good and sweaty before the day is over!

I'm going to take some yogurt with me so I can have a cool--legal snack. Super-Walmart has a Blue Bunny yogurt that is sweetened with Splenda. Milk sugars seem to bother some people--but they don't seem to bother me. I love the key lime flavor best!

I hope everyone has a good day!

"Even though the sun sets...
it rises again the next day...
sometimes even brighter than the day before..."
-Me

Good Morning To All:

Thursday night we had a wonderful rainfall that lasted until the wee hours of the morning. We really needed it! And there is more on they way. I am sorry for anyone having to travel in it, but we haven't had rain in so long, I had almost forgotten what it was like...especially what it smells like when the first drops hit the gound in big SPLATS!!!

School's out for summer!!! I said good-bye to my class yesterday, and off they went. Another year gone...hopefully I have touched some of them to continue to dream dreams that may come true one day. ..
I still have some things to finish, but like one of my co-workers kept saying yesterday, "I don't know ya'll-I just feel lighter now".

One of the things on my of "To Do's" is to go to Super Wal-Mart and look for that Blue Bunny Yogurt with Splenda. That sounds good.

Deb: I think that if the people on this board collectively posted all the "Thank-You's" for the way they have been inspired by you and this board we would tie up the World Wide WEb for days!!! :) :) :)
I am so motivated to not only eat healthy, but to lose weight to really BE healthy, and to exercise. That is a tall order. {{{HUGS}}} for all you do for us. We really do appreciate it. BTW, what is the latest on your dad? Was your mom able to find another hospital? I am still keeping you and your family in my thoughts.

I forgotten to mention that you ALL are FANTASTIC!!!

Happy Saturday.

SEF: I can see things are really going to be interesting during the fall and winter around here. There are several football fans on this board. So, between them and us (southern ice skate fans...during an Olympic Year, I might add), it should be exciting. BTW, I only skated a little when we had a rink in a mall. That doesn't even exist anymore. Okay, I have to ask who is your favorite eligible female skater? Mine is Michelle Kwan! (To the rest of you don't worry, even though, I am a "die-hard" Michelle fan, I repect everyone's choice of favorite skater).

I am embarrassed to admit that I can't remember who posted the Kashi article, but THANKS!!! :) I went to that sight, printed that recipe (which sounds so delicious that I hope to make it this weekend. If I do I'll let you know how it came out). They have some really interesting things on there.

Okay, I have edited this three times now..I really am going to get busy with things I need to do! LOL Can you tell I love to just find any excuse not to do things that I need to do?! :) :) :)

Good Saturday Morning Everonye!

Nice weather here, hot and humid, but no rain-garage sales stunk, not many and nothing much to speak of out there, guess I'll have a bit of money to spend on groceries now;)

I don't know what's happening to me and that darn scale-I'm up another pound today-that's 5 total from my lowest, this has not happened to me since I started this WOE. Okay, I admit, the cake I made yesterday is GONE, but that was just yesterday. There's NO WAY in the world that I've eaten over 24,000 calories than I normally would, each pound you gain means you ate 3500 calories in excess of what you would to keep your current weight-go figure, huh:?: My mind is perplexed! Any thoughts without mentioning the cake???

Eli is off today, so we'll probably make our usual trek up to Broward and Ole Ole for lunch:o Not sure where else our travels will take us.

For those of you who have been kind enough to ask about my Father, he was transfered to another hospital and is waiting to get a Cardiocath done on Monday so they can see what, it any, damage was done to the heart. He won't be home anytime soon-my Mother is only liking this since she doesn't have to cook. My Father hates being confined to the hospital bed and is getting Cabin Fever, so to speak. As long as he doesn't get cranky with me, he'll be fine!

If in the last 2 days you asked me a specific question on the board and I didn't reply, please, forgive me. If you don't mind posting it again, or e-mailing it to me, I promise to answer to the best of my ability-thanks for understanding!!

SEF, I LOVED THAT QUOTE about how strong a woman is-it's wonderful!!! Thanks for sharing those words with us:)

FILLISE, hope you get all you want done today at church. Sounds like you'll be sweating some pounds today! Thanks for mentioning that BB yogurt, next time I got to the Super Walmart I'll have to see if ours down here carries that. I try not to use anything with Splenda, but maybe in a pinch it wouldn't hurt.

ICE, is that an original quote? Either way, it's wonderful. Thanks for sharing it-a great quote to start the day. PLEASE send us some of that rain, it's needed desperately down here as well. We keep getting threats of rain, but they don't deliver the goods. Thanks for all the sweet words, you're such a doll:)

Gotta go jump in the shower. I'll check in with you all sometime this evening.

Toodles

Quilter--Thanks for the article. It kinda hit home, because I can think of times when I've said, "Oh gosh, I've gotta lose weight because of the family reunion." or "my annual physical" or "the Christmas party coming up" or "I can't get up those stairs like I used to." Etc, etc.
So I lose a few pounds and feel "rewarded" and assume that I can just let up a tiny bit and keep on going. But I can't! There are so many times when temptation comes my way and I succumb: the tailgate parties at football games, the church suppers, the dinner parties we get invited to, the parties I've had here at home, a birthday celebration, and so on. But so many times on this board I have been reminded that I have to take responsibility for my own choices not blame poor eating habits on any person or event. Sparkle reminded me of that so well this week in her post. The hard part is getting the reminder to actually penetrate my soul and mind. My desire is that discipline in what and how I eat becomes a part of who I am. Deb's quote last week on MM was also especially helpful, and I actually printed it off and decorated it up and laminated it to make a bookmark for my Daytimer. Anyway, I think I may be on track now, and am thinking ahead as to how to handle those tempting occasions that I know will come up fairly regularly. I can say this: it truly is a daily discipline; No! a minute by minute discipline. I believe, as one of the posts about a month ago intimated, that the discipline is almost part of the spiritual realm, as we submit our will to our Creator in obedience to the physical laws He ordained for the way a healthy body should be treated. I certainly am a good example of the natural bent for humans to disobey their Creator. The other side of this sad fact, though, is that we do have the power to obey, and when we do, we avoid some of the "land mines" of life that He wants to spare us from.

This day is beautiful. I had a wonderful breakfast at the table by our fishpond, listening to the waterfalls. I have a new waterlily called "Snowflake" and it has hundreds of tiny white flowers, like snowflakes scattered all over that area of the pond. It is beautiful. The air was coolish-warm with a gentle breeze. My breakfast of low-GI pancakes topped with fresh fruit was delicious, and I'm ready to face the day. I may even go over to the gym and walk on the TM!! That's not something I do often on the weekends.

OK, a repeat of my question. What percent of carbs should a good SB diet contain?. My pancakes were made of LF cottage cheese, one egg, 3 T dry oatmeal and flavoring. This makes 6 dollar sized pancakes. I topped them with 1/2 nectarine, 4 strawberries sliced, and 3/4 C fresh raspberries. This was about 280 calories. I think this is SB legal, but it is 50% carbs. Any response or reaction to my carb question? Is this what is considered an OK SB breakfast? It certainly was yummy, I can say that!

Yes, Deb,

BLUSH...I made that up when I posted regularly on the Michelle Kwan Fan Chat, and was referring to a time when she wasn't skating her best, then really came back fighting. I really admire her because no matter what happens she takes responsibility for what she does, makes no excuses and goes on. I feel that she is such a good role model for our youth, and they have so few people to really look up to. I used to post on the MKFan Chat board until I came back here. Of course, with skating season over until October there really isn't much happening there, but I feel that my priorities have shifted. I need to give some time to achieving MY goals and this is the place that I need to be right now.

Morning Everyone!!!!

Well, it's another rainy day here in Cincinnati. So the weed situation is still looming overhead. Paul and I are getting haircuts today so I think we'll do a bit of shopping this afternoon. Have to buy a graduation gift.

Got up and did the treadmill this morning. I failed to get on yesterday and could really feel the difference in the workout this morning. Still did some interval running. Man, if you want to sweat, that's the way to get those glands going.

DH and I had a yummy supper last night. I made huge salads with all sorts of good stuff in them while he grilled chicken breasts on the GF grill. We then cut up the chicken and had it in the salads. Mmmmmm. This book I'm reading says that people with my body type should stick with more water-based foods like fruits and vegetables. And I do remember that one of my best weeks of weight loss is when we had these super salads about four nights out of the week. I need to eat more fruit, but just don't know what to get. The grapes were great for a while, but they're not really in season. I guess peaches are next. I smelled some great ones at the market yesterday, but they looked kind of green. Even the apples I bought yesterday are kind of mushy. So anyways, I will try and work this philosophy in with my SB. He also said that I should really lay off the red meat. He has three classifications of foods for each body type: Plenty Foods, Moderation Foods and Seldom Foods. Most of it agrees with SB except he allows natural sweets like honey and molasses. The only thing he recommends that I'm balking at is using non-fat dairy products. The yogurt is okay, but I can't stand non-fat cottage cheese. Yuck!!! And I love my string cheese which is pretty low in fat as well.

GATOR---Glad you thought the quote from the book hit home for you. I knew it was long to post, but hoped someone else would benefit.

AMSER---How did the move go yesterday? Any sore muscles this morning????? Oprah did backyard makeovers yesterday. Geesh was I jealous!!!! I thought some of it was over the top and way to cluttered, but I sure could use some of that expert advice and elbow grease (not even mentioning all the FREE stuff) with a backyard design. I just wonder what they'll look like this time next year.

Last night I was going through the old posts from the past month and updating the motivational board and I see that we are missing some members. Where are CATHY2 and RODEOMOM? What about SASAHAM??? Are you out there in Boston lurking??? Just wanted to throw a couple of "miss you guys" out there. Hope all is well.

Well, gotta go.
Take care.

You all are so supportive of each other and funny!!
I can't stay online long so struggle to keep up!!
More questions! We have been on this diet for 2 weeks now. First week my husband lost 4 lbs. this week nothing. First week I lost nothing but at least didn't gain! This week I lost 1 lb. But I was hoping to lose quite a bit faster. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Have read the book carefully and going by the daily menus at the moment! Possibly having too much cheese though??
bye for now!!

Hi Girls!

Dan and I are going ot look at some model homes today.
We found out we can't "afford" to move up to Northern California. The real estate agent e.mailed me and said 2 bedroom one bath condos are going over $200,000. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT????? SO we decided the hot desert isn't so bad after all, and we are going to upgrade, and find a home with a swimming pool!!!!

I've been doing better OP. Went for a walk this morning. Feel alot more motivated. Got the SB book from the library to re-read, and going ot get some agave nectar so I can make some of those good recipes that you are all so kind to post.

Hope everyone has a great weekend, and I'll be checking in later today!

Hello everyone!

Deb: Thank you for being the great person that you are. You are so supportive, inspirational and really good friend to all of us. We could not have come this far without you as our moderator. Thank You!!! I hope and pray that everything goes well for your father. You are all in my prayers.

Kim: I was so glad to hear that your speech went well. I knew that it would though. Thanks too for the quotes from the book you're reading. I also feel like I can relate to those feelings. I'm happy that you had a great weekend at your brothers. Sorry we could not meet. Next time for sure.

Frog: Thanks for posting the pics. They were great. Sounds like your whole family has a wonderful sense of humor. Keep it up and glad you're here.

Viv: I hope that everything goes well with your Dad. It's good to hear that he's healing now even if it is slowly. Hang in there. You're in my prayers.

Rhroo: Happy Dance for your 3 pound loss. That's terrific.

Iceskatfan: I really love ice skating. I watch it EVERY time it's on tv. My favorite male skater is Kurt Browning, I think my favorite female skater is Kristi Yamaguci (I just know I murdered her last name). I do have many other favorites too.

Gatorgal: It sounds so peaceful out by your fish pond. Just the kind of setting I would enjoy while having breakfast in the morning. It would be kinda difficult on my patio though. By next year though I want to try and have my own little oasis. I have lots of ideas, just gotto to a bit at a time. The money factor don't ya know :)

Snooks: Welcome and hang in there, it'll happen. As for as having too much cheese. Maybe. Deb would be a good person to answer that question. She has helped my tremendously.

Chris: Hang in there. With your determination, I don't think there's anything you can't succeed at.

Have a great week everyone.

Oh yeah, I'm down to 271 now! Yipeee!!!

Hi ladies!

I don’t think I have a prayer of catching up. But still wanted to take a moment to check in. Congrats to all the losers!

Deb, that’s great that your story got accepted. You are THE super-SugarBuster and your story will surely be as inspirational to the readers as it is to us! Sorry to hear that d*mn scale is not cooperating lately...how frustrating! Well, I found my old calendar finally and realized that I have been fluctuating not only for the past week weeks, but for the past YEAR, somewhere between 151 (for one magical day) and 172 (one horrible day). But mostly 155 to 165. Sometimes I’ve been working VERY hard and sometimes I’ve lost my head completely, but it doesn’t seem fair that the pounds go ON much more quickly than they come off. I’m big on simple math (3500 = 1 pound if you burn more than you eat you’ll lose weight) but if ONLY it were so simple with the female body!!!

But, you’ve accomplished so much in the past year. And so have I: I’ve gained muscle tone and aerobic strength and learned good eating habits FOR LIFE, which no “diet” has done for me before!

Sef, and Snooks welcome to the forum!

Susan, wow yogurt with Splenda? I dont’ think we have that here, but it’s easy enough to mix Splenda in with yogurt. One of my favorite treats right now is yogurt, Splenda and frozen blueberries. SUPER great and more nutritious than artificial fruit flavors anyway. (Okay, I lied, it’s really sf ice cream and blueberries, but a close second.)

GatorGal, you said, ”But so many times on this board I have been reminded that I have to take responsibility for my own choices not blame poor eating habits on any person or event.” So easy to say, so hard to do! I really got caught up in the past few month in blaming outside circumstances for my own failures. It was really hard to admit that I was wrong to others, but even more to admit to myself that I was wrong. I just wrote a long e-mail to a friend about the “victim mentality” I have had for a long time, especially with men. But as I get older, I realize my own power more and more. Especially when I put my efforts into something and see it take off!

Nancy, I’ll be happy to provide butt-kicking any time! ;) Seriously, it’s hard not to be overcome by the “zeal of the convert” but you’re doing great...give it time. I can’t think of any books off the top of my head about why we overeat, but I did cover my own reasons pretty well in my post about “fear.”

Lara, thanks for the compliments on my website! Hang in there girl. I’ve been fluctuating too and it’s frustrating. But we will BOTH see 150 soon I just know it! Good luck on your upcoming surgery.

****

So. It’s the month of June. How did that happen? May was kinda lame as far as exercise. But I did lose a little weight compared to April, when I was absolutely obsessed with exercise (and yet didn’t lose much weight). And I’ve come a long way during the month emotionally.

My relationships have really improved. My roomie and I are no longer making plans to kill each other and in fact, are closer and more considerate to each other even than during the “honeymoon” period when we first met. I’m having long, deep conversations with my ex-boyfriend, whom I didn’t consider capable of deep thought. ;) I’ve gotten closer to my one female friend remaining on Oahu. And I might even have found a romantic relationship although I don’t want to jinx it by expecting too much too soon.

So. There is something to be said for relaxing and taking an interest in other people’s interests, instead of obsessing solely on my own goals, as I’m good at doing.

****

June I really wanted to get off to a good start. So I went to the gym yesterday although I was feeling HORRIBLY lazy and absolutely didn’t want to go. But I went, So I went, grumpily, and ended up starting off with 3 sets of 10 on the weights, but then something started to go wrong with my shoulder, so I had to stop that and do some bench presses. But it was still a good workout over all. Lifting heavier weights is really hard! It's totally different from doing 20+ reps with lighter weights, and I really see that I was wasting my time before.

Then I jumped on the treadmill and, although it was a little frightening, skipped the mamsy-pansy warm-up and got right into 6 mph, I ran TWO MILES which is the most I've gone at 6 mph in over a year. I didn't pre-hydrate well enough and started cramping, so I didn't finish the three miles, which has been my goal for the longest. But I could tell it was a good workout because I was so full of energy. I got home and immediately started cleaning house (it was a huge mess) and got most of that done, cooked dinner and was quite perky until I passed out in the middle of watching "The Sixth Day" at midnight.

****

It seems that I have been longing for “comfort foods” lately, craving carbs and not wanting protein at all. So I got to thinking, why do our traditional childhood comfort foods always have to be high in calories and low in nutrients? Ice cream, mac & cheese, pudding etc. So I got to re-thinking comfort foods and wrote a rambling and not very polished post about comfort foods if you are interested in reading it:

Comfort foods (http://www.atforumz.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51431)

Well, it’s the day I’m supposed to be getting my bookkeeping and housecleaning done, but all I want to do is lie around...and I won’t even feel guilty about it!

Have a GREAT week ladies, and as I won’t be posting during the week, I’ll check in on the weekend!

Much aloha,

Chris

DEB: Everything you have done, every nice thing you have said, and every success you have had, is wonderful. Remember that and don't get low right now. I know that the past few days have been especially trying. Keep the faith and hold your course steady...that is the answer to the scale. Remember the scale is not the most important thing that you have done. You have got to feel wonderful and healthy. You will lose that last little bit of weight...but the most important thing to be concentrating on right now is maintaining your healthy habits. Walk for the fun of it and how strong and good you feel afterwards. Eat healthy for how good it makes you feel. Put the scale away for a couple of days. You know I am here for you and because I have experienced what you have...I know it will pass. _ And to answer the question on the Nature's Miracle...yes it works on dried stain...

To Everyone Else: Congrats on how well you have done. Keep the positive attitude and as Gator said best...support each other.

Rhoo: You are so so close. You will get there before you know it.

Frog: Great Pics...

Well I am doing fine...fluctuating between 135 and 133.

I hope everyone is having a soothing weekend. I am trying to. Dh and I worked on our "savage" tans a bit today. We are trying to get our skin in shape for our trip to the Keys next month:) We also treated ourselves and Beau(4 legged son) to a boat ride. Beau stands up on bow of the boat like an bow ornament
The sun really wiped me out, but it was fun and relaxing.

Thanks, Kim for your encouraging words on moving my gm... it was more of an emotional task than a physical one. My Dad was sort of a wreck, trying to get the new room all situated and furniture in it, and getting it done as quickly as possible to get Nana in there that day... Friday. My Dad and his wife had to go out of town today, so he was fretting to get everything squared away before he left. SOOOOO.... I was trying to keep him calm, not to mention when we went by and told Nana we were ready to mover her in. WELLLLLL, she was not happy at all. She said Dad had not mentioned he was moving her in on Friday!!!!! She was beside herself.... kept saying she needed more notice etc... My Dad was NOT happy. I was doing my best to be diplomatic with her, and get across to her in a compassionate way, the importance of her going to this new place. ...her safety, health, and better surroundings too!!!!! All in all, by the time I got home - which was 4pm - I literally felt myself just kind of fall apart, bit by bit. It's really hard to explain. I have never been close to her. And I actually am glad she is in this new place. Yesterday's activities just brought up lots of memories and feelings from the past that tend to be overwhelming for me to deal with. With all that said.... NOOOO, I didn't stay OP last night at supper, and slipped a little bit today. BUT.. tomorrow is another day:spin: I pray I won't feel as emotionally drained tomorrow. Life's ride is a bumpy one..... if it was one smooth ride, we all would get sleepy, fall asleep at the wheel, and have a WRECK:eek:

I apologize for all this bablbly posting. I am trying hard to open up more, especially when dealing with not so 100% times, like Deb suggested to do.

Kim - My sweet friend!! I so appreciate your always sincere words to me. Great job on your "big" speech in front of the "BIG WIGS". Sorry I haven't responded sooner about your yard "woes". Let's see.....too many weeds??? You can either just run over them with the mower as you mow the grass - it's all green anyways:lol:, orrrrrrrrr get on your hands and knees and get to pulling, orrrrr get a BIG bottle of Roundup. I wish I was there too. I would love to help in some way. What I would really like to do is have some of your rain. We need RAIN desperately!!!!!!!!!!! We are like minus 8 inches for rainfall for the year.

Deb - I sure hope your Dad will do well with his CC. Let us know the results, when you can. I hope your Mom is taking care of herself through this ordeal. We all continue to be here for you. Your leadership just means EVERYTHING to us SB'ers here.

Viv- I sure hope you notoriety won't get SO big that you won't be able to hang here with us little people:lol: Congrats on the article!!!!!!

Deb - Same goes for you and your story!!!!!!! Don't go getting so famous that you will have to hire someone to keep all of us in line here :D

Well... I have WAY overdone it. I am hitting the hay. Everyone continue to keep on keeping on. As long as you all keep inspiring me, I feel proud to be a part of this group. I thank all of you for all I continue to learn here on a daily basis. Good night everyone:yawn:

Here's an early morning quick note! Hope everybody will enjoy their Sundays. It's dry here (thank God) so I'm heading out the door to take a stab at the back yard.

RHROO----You are such an inspiration!!!! Your starting weight was just a little under my highest weight of 202.6. And now I see that you are TWO POUNDS away from goal. FANTASTIC, SUPER, WONDERFUL, INCREDIBLE, and just an all-out GREAT JOB!!!!! Truly, when you put that little "We can do this!" at the end of your stats, that really hit home for me. Your losses have been the swift kick in the seat that I needed. You tell me that if I keep moving and get back on that every popular but unsteady (in my case) wagon, I can be where you are. How good you must feel. I think you bring up a really important point . . . what happens next??????? How does the thought process change????? What's the goal now?????? Anyways, I think this is an important thing for all of us to think about even if we are far from our goals. Because we need to get that this is not magic, that it's not over once we see our favorite number hit the dial. Thanks and a heart-felt congrats to you. I wearing a big smile and it's all for YOU!!!!!

AMSER---Thanks for your kind words. You are great! Hey, sorry to hear that the move went so rough for you and all those involved. Guess it's at least a little better for you that you are not too close to your g'mother. But it sounds pretty terrible for your dad. Such a hard thing to switch roles and become the care giver and decision maker. My parents are both up there in years and mom is pretty feeble. She couldn't live on her own, because she's so crippled up. I pray that my dad remains as healthy as he is now to be able to take care of her. I dread what's ahead for us all with that situation.

I looked over the recipe board yesterday. Thanks to all for giving such good recipes. I can't wait to try some of them. DEB, that sponge cake looks wonderful. When you say 9" tube pan, do you mean like an angel food cake pan or a bundt pan? Just wondering.

Take care, friends!
