G'day all
Time for a new thread!
So nice to see you back Trudy and I am pleased you had a great time and lucky for Karen there is still something left for her to buy!
Ann I agree about the big dog thing, dh was never going to have some little 'rat' and guess what we ended up with two 'rats':D They are pappilions and just gorgeous but alas with the travel they are now permanently living with a friend who was also the breeder.
Not sure what Memorial Day is but I assume it is similar to Australia Day when we celebrate being Australian and remember our pioneers.
We booked to see Yothu Yindi tomorrow night. He is an an aboriginal musician who played at the closing ceremony of the Olympics. He is performing tomorrow night with the Australian Youth choir and some other artists. The only seats left were in a box, a bit posh I thought! Better get my 'gladrags' out so I will look worthy of being in a box :D:D
The weather here is very cool, lovely looking out on the park with leaves falling from the trees. I don't envy some of you with the hot weather you are having.
As I was about to post this I noticed your last post Slavika the daisy you bought is it a gazania?? They are very hardy and more like ground cover.
Have a great weekend all
Cheers

Just checking in before I leave for the weekend. Trudy you have the same addictions I have. Your trip sounds like fun. I hope that we have no "women drivers" in front of us while we are driving. You know that they are always doing something wrong. Have fun this weekend. Peggy

Hi Maria I went out into the yard this morning and got the little plastic "thingme" they stick in flower pots and this particular plant is called a "Butterfly" and it's a very bright yellow daisy. The tag said, it was a hardy plant and grew 14" to 18" tall.
Peggy have a lovely weekend away.
I'll be back later. Bye now.

Trudy: I know what you mean about navigating in a big city. I refuse to drive in Los Angeles or San Francisco. Know way! Not ever! People are crazy there. But its easy to get lost when you are in a new place anyways. Now if I did all the driving we would never get any where thats for sure.
Ann: Sorry to hear about the shoulder. Sounds painful. Hope it gets better soon!
Maria: Lucky you getting to see Yothu Yindi! Bet thats gonna ne awesome! And box seats to.
Slavika: Yummm Barbequed Hamburgers. I love to BBQ just about anything. It always tastes better to me.
Peggy: Have a fun weekend!
Off to play in the yard.

Hi Lily Good for you for getting to your personal goal. Boy when you set your mind to something you sure can do it. Hurrah for you!!! :)
Also I love your new avatar.
I went back to the flower place and got another daisy plant, got it planted and did a bit more garden work. I cut some of my rhubarb from my garden and made "Rhubarb Muffins" and a "Rhubarb and Strawberry Crisp". The crisp was really good, but I over baked the muffins a bit.
Trudy did you get all your yard work done?
I'm off to bed. Night all.

Slavika.. I did work out in the yard today, finished planting all the Impatiens, and DH put in green peppers. I pulled a muscle in my thigh and l am limping around tonight. It was a really sunny, hot day. loved it! Rhubarb?... do you have any extra for an old friend? Hmmmmm?
LIly WAY TO GO!! You got to your personal goal. You must be so pleased with yourself. Keep me posted on how you manage to maintain.... I am still journaling.
Maria.. The Pappilions are just beautiful dogs, you must miss them. We had a tri-color Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Victoria. Miss her
I had never heard of Yothu Yindi until the closing ceremony of the Olympics. I did download quite a bit of his music and I enjoy it. Lucky you going to the concert.
Peggy.. Hope you are having a great weekend.
Ann... too bad about the shoulder... what happened?
Just took it easy tonight and have been reading "Snow Falling On Cedars", by David Guterson. Apparently it was made into a movie... anybody see it? The book is quite good.
Goodnight all....... see you tomorrow....

Slavika: I really want to know what to do with rubarb. You two are talking about it like it is wonderful. I have never had it, but Im told it is really bitter?
Scoop please...... Your recipes sound good tho.. Im confused....
I was always told dont go there! Its awful.
Trudy: Pulled muscle is not good. Take care of yourself.
For me I will always Journal. I know Im gonna have some bad days. But I figure if I get right back on track the next I will be ok. Dont get me wrong here, I have bad days where I dont Journal. But I still get right back, the next day.
Boy you are observant. Did not think you would notice if it was at the bottom. Thanks friends! Was trying to be UN-observant here... :o

Hi Everybody
Lily Hi there. I would say that rhubarb is "sour" not bitter. When you add sugar to rhubarb is wonderful. All the kids (here) at one time or another in their lives get a stalk of rhubarb and dip the end in sugar and eat...dip and eat...dip and eat. :)
Rhubarb makes wonderful mufffins, crisps, and rhubarb pies. Quite often a recipe calls for rhubarb and strawberries.
You can also make a rhubarb sauce, to serve warm over ice cream, or frozen yogurt and use it to put on toast or scones. Since rhubarb has no points you only count what you add to it. A quick 8 serving sauce:
Into a saucepan put:
4 cups thinly sliced rhubarb
2 tbsp. margarine
1/2 cup white sugar.
Cook, stirring constantly until rhubarb tender, about 5 to 7 min. Whole recipe is 14 points, or 1.8 pts each serving
Serve warm, but you can serve it cold too, for toast.
Last year I made the sauce with "Splenda" instead of
sugar and as I recall it turned out ok too.
Lily if you decide to get some rhubarb and would like the muffin recipe or crisp one let me know and I will post them on "our" recipe site or I can e-mail them to you. :)
Trudy yes, I will share my rhubarb with you, but we have to wait for a few days for it to grow bigger because I picked all the big stalks. :)
I'll be back later to see what's happening here.

Lily I posted both the muffin recipe and the Rhubarb Crisp one but I made a mistake on the crisp one. Could you fix it for me please. It's in the dessert section and it's called "My Own Rhubarb Betty", yes I know, not very original. :D In the directions part of the recipe I said to mix the 1 cup of white sugar with 3 "tsp" flour......please change it to 3 "TBSP"flour.
Thanks Lily.

Slavika: They both look good. I'm gonna try the Rubarb Betty tomorrow. I was looking for something for dessert.
Will probably have enought rubarb left over to do the muffins and freeze them to! Thanks!

G'day all,
Had a wonderful night last night at the Yothu Yindi concert, but seemed to have come down with a bit of a cold or something. Doing very little today other than sipping on chicken noodle soup.
Rhubarb brings back childhood memories, I have never used it since I left home. The muffin recipe sounds good and the fact that rhubarb is no points is good to know as well. Perhaps I should have a go at cooking it again. I did use to like the taste, a little tart but good.
DH asked me to book dinner for when my son and partner are here. The one I enquired about was a dinner on a restored tram. The cost is AU$106 per person for a 5 course meal and as much as you want to drink!!!! For Australian standards that is quite expensive when you can get a beautiful main course for as little as $12.00 but for a special night you could expect to pay around the $25 mark. I haven't spoken to dh yet but I am sure he will agree that we are better off going to a special restaurant with no set price.
Don't know about you, but to me this would just be a 'pig-out', feeling you would have to get your money's worth!!!! Feel revolting and bloated afterwards but satisfied with the knowledge that you got your money's worth:D:D I have stuck to my decision of 'no alcohol whilst in Melbourne' so dinner at a nice restaurant will be soo much better.
I lost another 1/2 kg this morning. Haven't tried the 'mother of the bride' outfit yet, I want to wait until I loose a bit more.
Going back to have some more soup now..........
See you all
Maria

Lily Thank you for correcting my error. I hope you do try the Rhubarb Betty, I think you will like it, and the muffins too. :)
Maria I'm glad you enjoyed the concert, but sorry you are not feeling too good. Give rhubarb another try. The rhubarb comes up here first in the gardens, it's such a hardy plant. As soon as I see those stalks growing my mouth is really fixed for something with rhubarb in it. My Mom used make a very delicious
Rhubarb Custard Pie....I will have to search that recipe out. I hope you are feeling better tomorrow. Night.

Hello all,
We got back earlier today but this is the first chance I've had to get at the computer.
Spent two days walking that mall. I think I covered much of it twice. Didn't want to miss nothing. Trudy did leave a few things behind.. I was able to fine some very nice nightgowns for me. Also some hair stuff . I also collect magnets so found a couple that I liked. Then I was strolling along and found a store called Wild Things? I think it was called . In this store there was bird houses wild bird seed and lots of bird stuff. But what caught my attention was people laughing at a small TV that was showing a squirrel trying his darndest to get to a feeder. I mean we were really laughing at this squirrel movie. These were supposed to be squirrel proof feeders but I really think they were entertainment packages for people. Slavika needless to say I thought of Sammy. I also found the cutest stuffed animal I'm sure you've seen them Made by Russ it's name is "Muffin Jr" He's cute and cuddly and best of all doesn't need to be housebroken. All the talk about dogs you guys were doing so I just had to have one. I'd get a real one but my cat would think it was lunch or something. I also tried that Aqua massage thing loved it would spend my last dollar to do that again.
Lost my money at the casino($10) but then that is nothing new. I should just save myself the trouble and just toss it in the garbage and go straight to the buffet and get it over with.
Trudy we navigate the cities the same way you do. And don't you just love the courteous way they all drive:rolleyes: They never use a turn signal , just dart in and out of traffic like they own the road. It's always such a joy to drive round down there. It rained just about the whole time we were there. Had wanted to take a trolly tour . But not in the rain. :nono: been there done that. I used to live there when I was young but we just stayed in our own neighbor hood and didn't get around much in those days. There is lots of stuff to see. Maybe next time.
Maria I agree with what you say about the all you can eat deal best to stay away unless you have very good self control. Either that or be sure you don't wear your Buffet Pants(elastic waist) I don't know how much a 1/2 kg is but as long as the scale goes down that's great. Also hope you are feeling better.
Slavika I intend to try that rhubarb stuff all of it.
Trudy I hope your pulled muscle is better.
Ann yours too. What were you doing??
Lily weigh to go on reaching your personal goal . I knew you be able to do it.
This turned out to be long sorry
by for now

I am going to have to try the rhubarb recipes. My dh loves rhubarb-strawberry pie. Now I wish I would have gotten a start from my nephew's. He had some growing on his farm. I felt like I found heaven this weekend. He has 50 beautiful acres with horses. It was so peaceful and pretty. Hated to come home. We met a nice officer of the law on our way. We needed one of those slow "women drivers" in front of us. Lily you reached your personal goal. Good for you!!!!! Karen I am glad that Trudy left you something to buy. It would have been fun for you 2 to have been there at the same time. Have to run and do laundry and stuff. Have a nice holiday, Peggy

Maria: My that is expensive dinner. I would want my moneys worth to. So I would pick another resturant. Congrats on your loss! Glad you enjoed the concert. Hope you arent getting to sick. Feel better soon!
Karen: That squirrel movie sounds to cute! You had a wonderful trip to! Glad to see that Trudy did leave you a few things to buy. The aqua massage sounds wonderful.
Peggy: Your Nephews farm sounds wonderful! I bet it was beautiful. I have always wanted to live on a farm. But then I dont want the work that goes with it. But I would love to have all the different animals. Course they wouldnt be for food either as I get to attached. So a farm really is right for me I guess. ALAS.
Off to the store to get the stuff I need to make these Rubarb recipes. Cant wait to try the Betty tonight!

Since the rhubarb was so plentiful, my Mom made jam with it and also added Strawberries and Blueberries to make it a bit different, we had pies with meringue, coffee cakes and muffins. My DH Mom used to make a "cool aid" out of it. Slavika  we dipped and ate too. Also played with it, the big leaves made terrific "umbrellas". It is loaded with vitamins and fiber.
Lily.. did you try it? .. did you like it? :)
Maria.. the price for the restaurant is expensive in anyone's currency. I would also feel that I had to get my moneys worth, and would eat everything.
Karen.. the drivers had my hair standing on end. No signaling, just merging right in front of us at 70 mph. Too bad we didn't go on the same week, we could have met.
Peggy .. Sounds like you had a great weekend. Very relaxing.
Slavika.. What have you been up to? Going to the meeting tomorrow? Was there something special going on this week at WW? Seems to me you said we were supposed to do "something" :?:
My leg is all better. I worked out today, and really found it hard going, and that is after missing only 1 week. It sure doesn't take long to lose the toning.
.. check out the eyes on my duck...

Hello Everyone!
I have been so overwhelmed at work that I have not been doing much more than catching up on email. So I have been trying to catch up today.
I hope to get back on with a longer note soon.

Hi Everybody
Margot Hi there, nice hearing from you. I guess this is your busy time of the year. WTG on your loss. 112# gone forever. :)
Lily did you find some rhubarb and did you make the "Betty"?
Karen nice post, I enjoyed reading it. What is "aqua massage"? Did I miss something?
When I look out at my Sammy it is like watching a movie. I have had to scold him a couple of times because he wants to bury his peanuts in my flower pots. I planted those lovely daisy's in big pots on the patio and he jumps up on the rim and does some kind of a balancing act, has two big peanuts in his mouth, digs frantically in the dirt, scattering it everywhere, then decides to eat the peanuts instead. BROTHER.........He's a real little
Trudy Last week at WW our wonderful Leader suggested we take at LEAST 20 min. to eat each meal so that the stomach has time to get the message to our brains, that we are full. I'm looking forward to seeing you tomorrow at WW and at Tea Time. :) By the way, love your "duck" and his shifty eyes. LOL :D
Peggy I got my rhubarb "starter" plant at the place that sells flowers/vegs for planting. I bought the "Strawberry Rhubarb" which is red in color instead of the plain rhubarb which is more green/pink. I can't remember how long ago I bought it. I think 3 or 4 years ago. Lot's of people have rhubarb growing in their yards and never use it.
Maria how are you feeling today, and congrats on the weight loss. :)
"See" you all later.

Trudy & Slavika: The Rubarb Betty was a hit! Everyone loved it. I also made the muffins. But havent tried them yet. I will later in the week. I froze them for my breakfast.
Cal! Good to see you! We have been wondering what happen to you. WTG girl 112# gone forever! You are doing awesome. Hope the problem with posting is resloved.
Best get things ready so I can go to work tomorrow. ALAS......

Margot.. so nice to hear from you :D... 112lbs gone forever... that is just WONDERFUL. Get that work out of the way so you can "talk" to us.
Slavika.. OK, now I remember what I was supposed to be doing ~ eating slower. I do eat quite fast, so my stomach never gets the message to my brain ~ I will have to work on that.
Lily.. I think that Slavika's Strawberry Rhubarb is sweeter than the plant my Mom had years and years ago, hers was really tart. Glad that you liked it.
I saw the  Dentist today, he worked on a tooth on my lower jaw, and now my TMJ is acting up. My jaws are just aching.... I am going to bed, see you all tomorrow :D

G'day all,
Feeling much better today not sure why I felt the way I did yesterday. Perhaps I am feeling a little sorry for myself :(. There is quite a bit of turmoil at dh's work, a large article in the Financial Times this morning. Not a paper I usually read, a bit highbrow, but as it discussed the future of Lucent Technologies, it was very interesting to read. Probably the less said the better until there is something concrete, nevertheless very unsettling.
Went for a very long walk this morning, bought Wingspan, Paul McCartney. It is a double cd with all his hits when he formed the group called 'Wings' after the Beatles. DH is a big fan and I quite like it as well. Thought we need a bit of cheering at the moment :)
Karen good to hear you had a good trip. I had to smile about the squirrel proof feeder. By the way, 1 kg = 2.2 pounds in your language :)
Peggy your weekend sounded soooo relaxing, glad you enjoyed it.
Margot down 112 lbs, that is just fantastic. Pity you are so busy at work, would love to hear a bit more about your success on a more regular basis. How much more to go?? You must be getting close to goal, good for you.
Trudy love your ducks, they are so cute. Hope you and Slavika have a good time at your meeting tomorrow.
Out shopping with my daughter tomorrow, I am looking forward to that. She is so enthusiastic about my weight loss, she made me try the 'mother of the bride' outfit and yes it is already a lot better but still a little way to go:)
I feel very confident that in time to come it will fit just beautifully.
Haven't seen Glenda post, hope you are doing well with giving up that dreaded 'weed'.;)
Cheers

Maria good weight loss. You will be looking good in that dress for the wedding. Keep up the good work. Margot you are a role model. How much more to go? Trudy I eat fast too. I must think that someone is going to take my food off my plate if I don't inhale it. This is something I have been trying to work on. We had a cookout at a friends yesterday. The rain finally left. Ann how close are you to the fires? They are sounding worse. Was someone killed? Hope you all get the much needed rain. Glenda how is the quitting smoking going? Will check in later, Peggy

Trudy: Love the new duck! Very cute! I need to work on eating slower to. I was going to this week after Slavika mention it. But did I. No... :(
Peggy: Sounds like you had a good weekend. Love to BBQ! Probably cuz I dont really have to do anything. DH does!
Have a great day all!

Lily probably the less said about Lucent in this forum the better other than that dh is talking of 'frog tel' and his colleagues are learning french :D:D
Peggy I have to just say that the fast eating bit is my biggest problem also. :D My biggest worry is that my food will be cold and hence not as nice! If ever we do get together, it will be a very short lived dinner with all the fast eaters amongst us :D More time for chatting I gues ;)
Tried to upload my web page last night but struck a few problems :( Nothing is easy!!!!
Cool day here today, off to do some shopping with my daughter. DH is off to Sydney for a few days, back at the weekend. Lots of time on my own to get that webpage up and running.
Have a great day all

{b] Hi Everybody [/b]
It was a nice day today. Went to WW and am happy to say I was down 1.2#. :)
It was just Trudy and I for tea today, but we managed to talk away the afternoon and eat our share of Rhubarb muffins. It was nice seeing you today Trudy :)
My DIL gets home late tonight. My Son called and said it was a "happy day" today, because his wife was coming home. We will all be happy to see her. I hope she had a lovely holiday.
Maria I hope you had a nice day shopping with your daughter. Did you find any nice little treasures for yourself?
Peggy I think eating quickly is what got us all into trouble to begin with. My DH eats quickly to, but somehow he knows when to stop.
I'll take a peek back here later. Night all.
LOL maybe that's a picture of my Sammy.
Trudy
05-29-2001, 08:35 PM
Slavika.. that does look like Sammy, smile and all. :) I was able to eat so much because that was my lunch  . Yummmmm! (I came home with a "Doggie Bag".. my DH was happy, he got dessert tonight, he  the fudge.) Congrats on being down 1.2 lb.
Maria.. I think that 2.2lbs sounds better than 1 Kg. WTG and keep it up (or should I say off?)
You know gals, that I was determined to eat slower today, but I get eating, and forget and before I know it I am done. No wonder I am still looking for "something" after I finish. My brain hasn't gotten the message yet. I eat faster than DH does. ... and he never has a weight problem ~ could that be the answer? I bought myself a bag of sugar free candies and it seems to quench my sweet tooth.
We are going out tonight so I will say Good Night now, see you all tomorrow.

Maria: Hope you had a good time shopping! Find lots of bargins! Had to laugh at the frog tel!
Slavika: Have to agree with you on the eating quickly. I really need to work on it. When I started WW I did work on it. But it seems to have vanished again. So I really get to get back into going slowly. My DH is the same way, he knows when to stop and he eats slow to. ALAS..... Woo Hoo! Down 1.2#! Thats great! Sammy is so cute!
Trudy: It probably is the answer. Cant tell from My DH tho! But his problem is sweets. But he eats those slow to. But he isnt that big. Still needs to lose 20# tho. Hope you had a pleasant evening out!
Best get my dinner going, or I will have a grumpy DH.

I think who ever said it is right the reason we have this weight problem is we eat too fast. I am guilty of it too. Sometimes I think because we are women and We always tried to get eating out of the way so we could wait on every body else.
Love Sammy! Where do you all find those cute things.
I'm off to bed

Hi all: I've missed so much that I'm not going to try to address each one.I learn to check in more often, so I don't feel quite so out of the loop.
Congratulations to all with the weight loss.I'm a bit fearful to weigh in on Sat. I don't think I have done very well, again.
I enjoyed all the talk of rhubarb, and we left some wonderful rhubarb plants up north when we moved. Did you every try rhubarb/apple pie? It is very good, and I like it just as well as the classic rhubarb/strawberry.My DH likes it better. We call it Rhapple pie. I sort of came upon it by accident when I didn't have enough apples to make a pie and I put in some rhubarb to fill it out. Just season it like you would an apple pie.
Shoulder is doing fine now. I just worked with my quilt frame too high and guess I just overworked the muscle, or it is 'old age' or arthritis. I prefer the overworked muscle.
Been doing some massage therapy and that helps so much.
With the 'great' city driving did you ever get forced to exit, because you were in the wrong lane and couldn't get over? We did that in Houston, with a motor home. YuK!!
I thought it was only in Fl. where people didn't use their turn signals.
A speeding ticket? No radar detector?
I planted some Gazania in my garden. They are very pretty. Also have Gerbera daiseys. We are getting the smoke from the fires, but so far, Praise God, there are none really close to us.There was a terrible accident involving some 20 vehicles. I guess there was suddenly a wall of smoke/fog, and people couldn't stop in time and there was a chain reaction. One person killed and many injuries. Yesterday and today we had some small amounts of rain.
Sounds like everyone had a nice weekend. Maria- Memorial day is actually a day set aside to pay tribute to all the men and women who have fought and died in all the wars our country has been involved in. Did anyone see the concert from Washington. There was a lot of reminiscing about all the different war eras.
Margot welcome back 112# gone forever deserves a special congratulations. Lily, reaching your personal goal also deserves a special pat on the back.
I have a request for whoever starts the next thread. Would you put a post on the old one saying move to no. 000. Then I'll get the email and maybe won't miss so much. How's that for a selfish request! Maria: hope you'll put a picture of you in the new wedding finery when you make that goal.
Good night all.  Ann
