Smile What to do when chronic pain inhibits exercise

I have been reading 3FC for the past month or so and I started WW on 3/17/05. I can see that this forum is very helpful! My main reason for this post is that so far I have been consistantly losing weight (17.5 lbs) since 3/17/05. I have not really implemented exercise due to time constraints, and chronic back pain. I guess I was just wanting some feedback on what I can do when just changing my eating habits isn't enough to lose the weight but my condition decreases my ability to exercise--I can do no twisting or turning.
Thanks!!

Take the the waters, RS8. I had a serious accident three years ago - I have 2 compressed veribrate and actually lost 1.5 inches off my height. Water is the best way to exercise with pain. Yup, you'll have to suck up being in a bathing suit. But believe you-me, it will strengthen the muscles you need to support your back and before you know it you'll be moving on to land. You can also see a physio therapist to get some exercises on land - using rubberbands and balls you can also get great workouts and help out your back - rather than causing yourself more pain.

Good luck and congrats on your weight loss! Come and join us on the daily threads if you have time!

I just hurt my foot really bad and stupid me had walked about six miles on it when it wasn't completely healed so I am back to pain. Anyway not as near as bad as your back pain I am sure. Well my doctor said the best thing is water as well. Water aerobic and swimming. He said it is the BEST for weight loss, muscles, and less impact on your body. My husband has a lot of back pain when he gains weight but when he loses it, it goes away. Just a center of gravity thing I guess. I hope this helps. Good luck and at least you are trying!
