Good morning;
Hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was OK - we finished the baby's room and bought diapers and stuff so we're all set.
I wanted to comment a bit on the conversation around losing weight before baby...I understand your concerns re: weight, and here is what my OB has advised me.
Unless you are morbidly obese, it's not the real concern. What you want to ensure is that your blood pressure is good going in, you don't have blood sugar issues, and you have a healthy lifestyle (no-smoking, drugs, don't drink heavily, eat well and get moderate exercise, not aneimic, no STD's - this is all deteremined at a pre-preg check up). She was saying so many women put off conceiving thinking they must reach a magic number, when actually, losing weight right prior to TTC can keep you from concieving. Your body has to be at a certain weight for a while before it adjusts and the hormones settle down (ie: Ali would be in good shape cuz she has successfully kept off a lot of weight for years). When I went in the summer and had my tests, she told me to focus on weight maintenance and healthy lifestyle, to help ensure conception. So, if you want to conceive, say, next year, and want to lose 50lbs (or a large amount of weight) before then, you might want to re-think that strategy a bit, or at least see an OBGYN to get thier opinion and have your pre-preg check up.
Another consideration, if you work for a year, or more, to reach that ideal weight pre-preg, you must be prepared to see that number go up. And the less you weigh, the more it will go up. For some (like me) that is really hard to experience. You must be prepared for that.
Re: back issues: Actually, my back's been fine and I have two compression fractures on L1 and L2 vertibrae. Weather or not your back hurts depends largely on how the baby is sitting (right now I know 3 pg women with kidney issues, all off work, b/c baby is sitting on them). Real pain indicates pre-term labour.
So, don't put your life or family making on hold to reach your number if your clock is ticking, or if you and DH think you're ready otherwise. You can be pg and overweight, and you don't have to gain 60lbs either.
Just some food for thought - I dont' know where y'all are on the baby-making gauge, but that's some advice from an overweight preggo. - 7 months today! No bp or sugar issues, and gained only 17 lbs so far (includes the 6lbs I gained on my honeymoon) ;)
OK better get my butt to work. BBL!
