Hi Guys! Just starting off since I haven't done a poll for yonks. Yup, I'm sitting in front of the computer again and I'm BORED again. But the chapter is slowly starting to take shape, I have all the bits written, it's just a question of pulling them into some kind of order. Once this one is done (tomorrow - if I'm lucky) that will be half the thesis written. YIPPEE!!!

Am slowly getting back on track after my 2 disastrous weeks, but for some reason I am still resisting journalling. I think I want to test myself - like, see how far I've got into the good habits and how far I still rely of the cognitive therapy of writing everything down and analysing it ... Will report back after WI next week! Today I am treating myself to a coffee, usually I just drink infusions or water, but for some reason I was CRAVING coffee today. And it's yummy!

I voted for thrillers on the poll because after I saw The Sixth Sense I couldn't sleep with the light off for a couple of nights. Seriously. It spooked me that much. I saw it about a week before I got together with Blokey and he still remembers my face after I got back from the cinema ... Now, my top 5. Hmm. Ok ...

In no particular order ...
Ordinary People
The Princess Bride
Empire of the Sun
Traffic
When Harry Met Sally

If I had a top ten, the other 5 would always change, but I think these 5 would always be there ... Traffic is the most recent addition, I saw it twice in the cinema and I could watch it again and still find more in it. Now I wanna hear all yours!

OK, gotta go. Back later!

most memorable films vary for different reasons. they could be a classic cult movie (rocky horror show) or a really badly written and predictable film (what lies beneath springs to mind there...sorry harrison, but it was pants (as we brits say).)
i really love films that surprise me and make me think. bridget jones was vg. gone in 60 seconds was vvvvvvbad. when i was younger i loved flatliners. can't think of a top 5 right now cos work is calling me....
hello to lolly and everyone else about to post! more later,

I said Other beacuse I have no idea how to classify my favortires.

My favorites are The Outsiders and Goonies!

Am I weird? Probably. I know them both by heart.

I need to get back into journaling. Ever since I maintained two weeks in a row after working my tushy off, I've been unmotivated. I don't think I"ve gone over much with points... I just think I should journal to make sure. I have still been making good food choices, so I haven't fallen off the wagon - I'm just kind of hanging on.

Plus I'm going away for the weekend for a wedding and prob won't journal all weekend. So I'm thinking I'll start journalling again on Monday. I know I should just start today... agh!

What are movies? I didn't vote. I haven't seen a movie since summer of '99. Pathetic, huh? They are wasted on me anyway, since I never remember them more than a day after I've seen them. I do know most of The Princess Bride by heart though.

Back to work today. Boohoo. I'd love to get paid full-time and stay home full-time. Think I could rig that deal??? ;)

Better run. Tons, and tons, and tons of work... Unfortunately, nobody came and did it all while I was gone yesterday. :(

I did good on points yesterday. Now I've just go to make it two days in a row!

Catch ya later.

Oh yeah, Kirsty, I used to love Flatliners too, my sister and I were both big Kevin Bacon fans. And Lisa - The Outsiders! I think I still have that on video from about 10 years ago. My sister and I knew it all by heart too, I think the tape is even a little warped around the part where Sodapop (Rob Lowe) comes out of the shower with only a little towel round him ... Oh, and Kierie - Monty Python are the best! I was so obsessed with them when I was at school, I have all the audio tapes and all the books ....

I am VERY tired today. The graduation ceremony was very long and boring!!! Then after I got home I had to run the dog because she was cooped up all night... I jogged her all the way around the block. It was amazing. She tried to pull me faster, but I kept an even jog... must have taken me about 3 or so minutes, but I did it. I haven't jogged for real in about 8 years. Bad knees... But lately I have been mixing some short jogs into my walks on the treadmill. Anyhoo, the dog loved it! Then I had to eat a skinny cow to celebrate!!! Then finally off to bed late!!

Favorite movies... well, I voted romantic, because I was assuming you wanted to know what films really affected me in a personal way... if you want me to cry, it's the romantics... or the sad ones where someone dies. Any movie where the person gets an illness really grip at my heart, mostly because my mom has battled cancer twice. BUT, my favorites are really not in that category... I LOVE ALL TYPES of movies, so it is hard to choose. But the 1 movie I know by heart it.... GREASE! I LOVE IT. Even saw the broadway version. I also love the 80's John Hughes movies. The Wedding Singer cracks me up.... BUT have you ever seen Murials Wedding... I LOVE THAT ONE!!!!

Oh i could go on and on about all the movies I love. I used to love the mini series Lonesome Dove when I was in HS. Drawing a blank now... maybe more later!!!

Can you tell I'm bored?!

Kirsty - that's what blokey calls Saving Private Ryan and so I can't think of it any other way now! I had Rocky Horror on video until my sister lent it to a friend and we never got it back ...

And Jen - The Wedding Singer! I can't see Boy George now without thinking of Alexis Arquette singing 'Do you really want to hurt me?'. That's the only Adam Sandler film I've seen and I think he's really good in it (you really feel for him!), but apparently his other stuff is pretty awful. And that song he sings at the wedding ...

Re: the poll, I guess I was just interested to know if anyone else gets so moved by films, that's how I judge a really good film, if it makes me feel something either physically (like, FEAR!) or intellectually - like, after Traffic, my mind was just buzzing. Of course there are loads of films I like for other reasons, sometimes its aspirational (all the Nora Ephron films, I want that lifestyle, I want to be Meg Ryan!), sometimes I just want eye candy.

Kirsty

of course, british films are the best (four weddings, notting hill, bridget, lock, stock etcetc)...
and i suppose i should stick up for braveheart and rob roy. ;)

Well, I am home sick and have not been able to get to a computer. this is going to have to be short as I don't want to sit at the computer long. Hopefully I will have a lap top soon and can post more. I have not read since last week, so forgive me if I missed something.

Lolly: get you chapter done. Half way , that is great!

kirsty: Have you had your interview yet? How did it go? what did you end up wearing?

Jen: Good for you for getting a little jogging in, but make sure you take care of your knees.

Well, I need to get off this chair and back to bed. I will try to post again tomorrow.

Good morning!

Good poll!! I chose psychological thrillers, but I don't like that kind of movie, I think because it does affect me. I saw Silence of the Lambs and I think it took me weeks to not think about that movie!!

Here are my top 5 movies:

1. Dirty Dancing
2. Grease
3. The Green Mile
4. Armageddon
5. Pretty Woman

I think I like the movies the best that the girl gets her guy in the end. I agree with Jen, I have seen Grease so many times, I can recite all of the lines in the movie!!

Went out with my brothers last night for pizza and some beer, went over in points yesterday, so I need to really watch it today! Still trying to work water in again, I used to drink it so religiously, now I can barely drink a glass....I have really hit bottom, and now am trying to bring myself out of it, not sure where I lost all of my motivation, but it is taking a long time to get it back. I am in this for the long haul though, I am not giving up!! :)

Jen ~ Graduations, I think, are no fun! Sounds like you had a great jog last night!

Janet ~ When you figure out how to get paid for full time but only work part time, let me know, o.k.!! :)

Lisa ~ I know exactly how you feel about journalling, I am having a hard time too, I need motivation!!

Kierie ~ My DH would vote for Striptease.....the scene where she is on stage and rips off her shirt, gets him every time, he about falls off the couch! :)

Hi Lolly and Kirsty!!

Well, better get back to work, my boss is gone until Tuesday, so I am finding it difficult to get anything done now, I would rather post to you guys!! :)

I'll be back.....

I know I've only been at work a couple of days but I am already wanting the long weekend. We won our football game last night and the post-game celebration is making me tired today. This girl plowed into me during the game, so I am really sore. I also have a huge bruise on my leg which will be very attractive for swimsuit season!

Way to go Jen on the Running thing! Maybe I should get a dog.

Lisa ~ I'm a big goonies fan also! Any movie from the 80s brings back good memories (along with early Madonna, Bangles, and Bananarama songs).

Hi Kirsty and Kierie!

Lolly ~ For the poll I answered romantic tear-jerkers, but I like many types of movies.

I have to think hard for my top five, but heres a try:

1. Tommy Boy - This movie makes me laugh every time! I know many of the lines also.
2. Sliding Doors - Just a cool story line.
3. Steel Magnolias - a classic chick flick.
4. We've Never Been Licked - a 40's WW2 movie that was filmed at the Texas A&M campus. Gig 'em Aggies!
5. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Early Helen Hunt and Sarah Jessica Parker. Great Flick for a rainy day.

Ok, thats my list.

Hello to all I missed! I've gotta run now!
Kay

P.S. - Hi Trish and Tonya! I think we were posting at the same time. Trish - I hope you feel better soon!
Tonya ~ I have Beer and Pizza tonight so wish me luck! Grease is another favorite of mine!

The WEDDING SINGER!!

Must go, duty calls - great poll BTW!!!

Oh yeah, Kay, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - I so wanted to have mean parents to rebel against like SJP's Dad in that film, but mine were just too damn reasonable. So much for teenage angst! And I remember Helen Hunt in that as just So Cool!!!

Hey Belle - yippee! on the skirt, what did I tell you? When I was in Spain (and I had the time and the motivation!) I was running 3/4 times a week and body brushing every day (esp. the cellulitey bits) and boy! did it make a difference. So stick at it! And maybe I will get motivated again soon ...

Tonya - Dirty Dancing was SUCH a fave at school, we all used to sing all the songs before class. Grease too. Ah, memories!

Trish - aw, sorry you're sick. Hope you feel better soon and can come and post lots again. HUGS!

Why do you think we're all missing motivation now? Do you think it's the summer weather? I'm da**ed if I know!!!

16 candles.... I love that one along with Girls just wanna have fun!!

This is fun! I also love The Sound of Music and The Wizard of OZ (we own it on DVD and it is awesom!!!) Cartoon type movies... The Little Mermaid and The Beauty and the Beast are 2 faves!!!

Kay... I love the part in Tommy Boy when they sing the Carpenters Song... cracks me up every time.

Some movies I really don't like the whole thing but parts make me laugh... Superstar.. the part where she sings "sometimes when we touch"... I sing with her. I also dance goofy with her and fling my arms out and say 'Superstar" all the time. Bugs my hubby. But then again, he likes Caddyshack and Star Trek... Oh and He LOVES all the Star Wars movies!!!

This is fun!

Forgot that one, that's still one of my all time fav's. I love to sing along. :)

This morning as I was getting ready to leave the house I picked up my lunch and it spilled out all over the floor. Bam, yogurt explosion everywhere! UGH. What a way to start the day.

Trish, I'm so sorry you're sick. I really hope you get to feeling better soon. What's wrong?? How's good 'ole Illinois?... I miss it. (Well, I miss my friends out there.) :( We actually went on vacation to Illinois a few weeks ago so that we could visit the folks we left behind. Never thought I'd be pining away for the land of corn. LOL

Still have a ton of work to do. Better run.

Lollybird
05-24-2001, 10:56 AM
Oh, ALL the Brat Pack films ... the BBC did a season of them in about ?1987 and my sister and I videoed all the ones we could - Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club, The Outsiders, Weird Science, St Elmo's Fire ... they never showed Sixteen Candles though, so I've never seen it. On the other hand, I was a HUGE Judd Nelson fan and had this cool black and white studio shot of him on my wall ...

Janet, is Illinois where you're originally from? When did you move to NY? Sorry to be nosey, it's just that Blokey and I are thinking about moving away from Oxford (an hour from each of our families) in a year (after 9 years for me, 13 years for him!) to the East of England where we don't know anyone. It's kind of potentially a big step, and I'm wondering what it'll be like. Obviously nothing like on the scale of moving from 1 state to another though - we always forget how teeny Britain is compared to the US!

Jen - it must be a boy thing, Blokey loves Star Wars and Star Trek too. And Doctor Who. Fortunately he loves musicals as well - Evita is a big fave with both of us, and Beauty and the Beast too. And Aladdin! I like all the old Disney films best though.

Lolly,

Originally we're from New Jersey. We moved to Illinois in 1993 when we got married and DH decided to go to school out there, so we basically moved 860 miles away from our friends and family. When we got there, we didn't know a soul, and it was very, very difficult for us. But we spent 7 years there, so we made some very good friends and then it was hard to leave! Now we live in NY, which is about 1000 miles away from Illinois, and 125 miles away from family and friends in New Jersey. So you see, even though we are closer to our family and original set of friends, we're still too far to do normal day to day hanging out, etc. So, we're back in the we don't know anybody boat, and it stinks! Also, shortly after we moved to New York we had Benjamin, so that made it harder to really get out and make friends, you know?

So there's my long answer to your short question.

Lollybird
05-24-2001, 11:12 AM
Janet, thanks! I guess if there are 2 of us it won't be quite as scary as going it alone. We had a 'baby' talk last night, we both reckon within the next 5 years, but it's hard to plan anything not knowing where we'll be from 1 year to the next. Benjamin looks adorable in your picture, BTW!

I'm back from vacation! :) :)

My top four
Steel Magnolias
The Princess Bride
Terms of Endearment
Stepmom

Had a very good time and I was flying home to take test for a new job and called my friend to give her flight time and confirm pick-up and she told me my friend had finally passed away. She was 43 years old and has been fighting uterian cancer for almost 8 years. We all knew it was her time but it is still very hard. The funeral was yesterday and I'm still a little down.
I was going to post more but I don't think so now.

Y'all have a good day.

Jen and Kay - I LOVE the part when they are singing the carpenter's song!! Hee hee hee...

I liked girls just wanna have fun too - the part when they are giving out hte invitations and the freak goes ooo - whaaa. Iknow, its lame, but my cousin and I loved that part!!

I also love Real Genius - its a val kilmer flick. If you ahven't seen it, rent it!! Its an awesome 80's movie. LONG LIVE THE 80'S!!!!

I am feeling more myself today, oddly. Maybe talking to you guys was theraputic???

Well, off again.

Hello to you all - Casey welcome back!

I like so many movies. So these are AMONG my faves.

1. Sound of Music
2. Steel Magnolias
3. When Harry Met Sally (and just about anything with Meg Ryan in it)
4. Gross Pointe Blank (and just about anything with John Cusack in it)
5. Raising Arizona (love the Coen brothers movies)

Obviously, sappy movies are my faves. Can't help but watch those dumb Danielle Steel movies when they come on TV, either. And I adored all those fun 80s flicks ... Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, Say Anything. Call me crazy, but I'll watch Goonies whenever it's on, too!

Now, some movies I though were wonderful, even if I wouldn't see them again and again.

1. Traffic
2. Best in Show
3. Everest (IMAX movie)
4. Sixth Sense
5. O Brother Where Art Thou?
6. Pulp Fiction
7. Fargo
8. American Beauty

Can you tell I like dark humor? :D

OOH! Some good news. Found a WW meeting today, and lost 1.2. Still not back to the lowest I've been on WW this time around, but almost. Why is it that it's easy to gain 2 pounds, **** to lose it back? My goal by next week is to drop below 184.4!

OK, I have an hour and 15 minutes to write the sidebar that goes with my story. Then it's off to Connecticut! The story, by the way, which you are all welcome to read when it comes out, is a narrative about a female police officer who spent 10 months posing as a high school student last year to catch drug dealers. I spend oodles of time with her to recreate how she did what she did, then talked to teachers, students, police, etc. I'm pretty happy with the results. It'll be in the paper June 3!

If I don't get back to post, I'll sign on periodically over the weekend. Happy Memorial Day everyone! Belle: I'm glad you're feeling better.

Hello everyone! Thank goodness we are so close to Friday! I am dying for the weekend, although it is supposed to rain the whole time (on & off).

Wedding plans are coming along, but I am in deep doo-doo with the bridesmaids dresses. If I don't order them by the end of the month...they won't get here. It is really stressing me out. Not to mention that my Bridesmaids are not helping. I can't believe that I have to work around THEIR schedule. What a waste. They shouldn't call them Bridesmaids, they should call them Brides-headache! The pressure is just killing me. Not to mention it is that time of the month...it just keeps jumping around lately. Most likely due to the stress.

Work is very hectic and with Monday off...it is just worse. I am going to try to keep it all together. At least staying in control of my points makes me feel better. Last night I was able to fit in a Carvel ice-cream cone. Yummm. I just have to get through today and tomorrow. Weigh-in is on Saturday. I hope I lose...it is just so tough to stay motivated.

As for movies, I am lucky to post so late because I can see everyone's great ideas:

1) Fried Green Tomatoes
2) Steel Magnolias
3) Grease
4) Dirty Dancing
5) E.T.

Can you tell I am a romantic??? I love old movies too. I could just watch Turner Classic Movies all day long. They are so simple and enjoyable. But I have to tell you, the only movies that I actually dislike are horror flicks. If you want horror...watch the daily news!!!

Ok, I have to jet for now. I hope everyone is doing ok. I think we are all suffering from lack of motivation. I know for me, here in the Northeast, it is the weather...rain all week long - yuck.

Have a good one.

Can someone send us some sunshine??!?!?!? :D

Wow, what a crazy day!!! :dizzy:

Lolly - I am in a huge coffee mode as well, and I can't cure it. so, I am having a diet coke in hopes of killing hte coffee urge.

KO - I liked Ferris too - but I o.ded on the 90's on it - its on like every sunday!!

Lisa - I have been journalling meticulously since I have maintained for a few weeks now - I dont get is since I have been exercising like a mad woman, but I think Lolly is right about the tightening up thing. Anyway, keep up the journalling, I am so with you on that.

HEY - does anyone keep an actual journal? I wrote in mine last night, on my deck, and I felt so relaxed after. It felt great to get all the things that were bothering me off my chest. I went back and read it and thought - wow, that stuff was highly emotional, and it helped put some things into perspective, including WW - I feel so bad about not losing but trying so hard to lose. But, I am getting healthier. ANdothers notice the changes - my mom commented last night again.

ANOTHER ASIDE - my neice was so cute last night...all she wanted was me (yay!) to do everything for her (including wipe her bum, which was not that great....ew) but she was full of hugs and stuff too - it was v. heartwarming.

Janet - sorry you don't get more movie time :(

Trish - what's wrong? Get better soon...sending get well vibes your way. I have cramps and could really use a hot water bottle and a good book, but ohwell, can't win em all.

HAS ANYONE READ THE PRINCESS BRIDE??? B/f says is way better than the movie!!!??

Tonya - don't give up!! Pizza and beer are one of my weaknesses too - and ceasars!! YUM

Lolly - I want baby talk too!!! Damn. First must find a good b/f who loves me. I might be a Singleton forever. Ohwel, at least I am only 25 so I have many childbearing years ahead....hope hope.

Kim - congratulations!!! Well done. Iam sure you will break the 184.4 barrier

Cuba - bridesmaid dresses are a bummer - mine alway scost too much and take WAY TOO LONG. Plus, I have to get them altered....

Well, must sign off. B/f is making plans for tonite.

LOLLY & BELLE... Anytime you want baby talk, come on over to Wisconsin and you can babysit Emma. She is quite a little talker, babbles all the time. I should tape record it, because it is soooo cute!!! And she laughs.... It is the sweetest thing you culd ever see, and it makes me laugh, then she laughs harder!!!
