G'day all,

Beautiful day here today, not sure what happened to autumn.

Got a call from dd.

I'll be back

G'Day to you also,
I'm new in here and will be 60 tomorrow, so does that make me too old to be in this forum?

Welcome Jan :)
No, you are certainly not too old for this board. I am 65 years old, and I think that soon we will have to change the name of this board to something like for gals "of a certain age" and leave it at that. :)

See you all soon. Night.

Hi everyone:
Welcome Jan, and no you are not too 'old' I have about 10 years on most of the gals, but I just say I am young at heart. You are not all that far from Karen and me. Plant City and Winter Haven. But we (my DH and me) don't go to Tampa. I do like Florida. Are you a native or a transplant like us?

Hi Gloria: Glad you came back. I am a transplanted New Yorker and now a Floridian. My DH is a Mass. native. Pittsfield and Williamstown. This is a second marriage for us, and we will celebrate 30 years together this Dec. In our blended family we have 6 kids. DH has four, 3 sons, and one daughter. I have two daughters. We have 14 grandkids. mostly grown now, and now 3 GGkids. We have spent a lot of time in Massachusetts, and Maine. We have family in New York State, Virginia, Maryland and Maine. Now it is their turn to come and visit us.

Whe my DH was a ships Captain, he sailed to various African ports. That was in his' first life' . When I met him he had become a river pilot on the St. Lawrence River, and we lived in Clayton, New York. Very close to Canada. We used to go across the border a lot. Now it is not so easy to come and go. He had a very interesting job. I was fortunate enough to make a couple of trips with him on the river. Fascinating to watch those big ships go through those little 'narrow' locks.

This afternoon a friend and I sang for a Memorial service in our clubhouse. We have them quite often, when one of our residents dies up north and then the family come back and give the friends down here a chance to say goodby. It is a nice thing to do.

Dh celebrated his birthday on Thursday and we went to Carabas restaurant. Definately not WW oriented, but I read that when you eat bread dipped in olive oil then you don't eat so much. Maybe that is true, since I brought home half of my dinner for lunch the next day. Sounds good, anyway.:D: ;)

Maria: I think that even tho' when retired you have less income, your needs are much less. And you learn to live with what you have. You don't need so many clothes, as when you are working, etc. And even tho' you have half as much income and twice as much husband:D: the adjustment happens. And you each find a way to have your own private space. Every man has to have his 'cave' to escape into.

Slavika: Glad to hear that your DH is feeling better. Having to give him shots would be, for me, difficult. I think my DH would give them to himself. He wouldn't trust me. And WOW that is expensive stuff, but as long as it does what it is supposed to it is cheap.

Trudy: Hope you and DH are recovering nicely from your colds. Spring colds are the pits. We are having allergy troubles here. There is so much pollen. Some days the car is almost yellow with it.

Karen: I too would like to know the procedure that your DH might need. Does it have to do with irregular heartbeat? Hope that all is going well with two SIL's with you. You can always take Sprout for a walk. If you nee somewhere else to clean when things get tough, and your house is already spotless, come on over. :D: ;)

Lily: Nice to hear from you. Why is it that weeds grow so darn fast? At least it gives us exercise to get them out. I did a little of that yard work today.

Glenda: Hope you are having a nice weekend. Being the doteing Gramma is fun. Now I don't get the chance to do that any more. But I do get emails from some of the older Gkids now and again. So they haven't forgotten me.

Peggy: Hope you have 'smooched the new little one now. How exciting. And I'm sure y ou will get to babysit as often as you want. It is fun to have a wee one around. They are so precious and they grow up so fast.

Hope you all have a great week-end. Ann

G'day all,

I never did manage to get back after talking to my dd for an hour and half :dizzy: yesterday

Jan for a minute I thought we had another Aussie joining us but then I read your profile and realised you just 'spoke' Australian when you started your post with 'G'day' :D :)
I turned 60 on March 21 so no you are definetly not too old and you are very welcome to join us.
We talk about 10% weight and 90% other things ;) but that is what makes our forum interesting and fun, I am sure you will enjoy our company.

Ann enjoyed reading your long post. I bet you and your husband would have some stories to tell of your experiences. Especially your dh and his travels to Africa. He should write a book, if not to publish then for your children and grand children. I am sure they would love it.

It was great to receive a photo and the news of Peggy's new grand son by email this morning :cp: :cb: :hat: :hat:

Quite a warm day here today but in my hometown of Adelaide it was really hot yesterday 35 degrees and this is supposedly autumn :?: The hottest autumn day on record.

Hope you are all having a great weekend.

Cheers
Maria

Morning,

And a beautiful one it is here. Sunny and warm and the flowering trees are in bloom. My tulips are getting ready to bloom.

Thanks for the congrats on the baby. He is really pretty-much more so than that picture. I have held him a couple of times. Glenda I loved your description of grandparents. They should be going home today. Be interesting to see what the granddogs think of him.

Karen you have your hands full with the 3 siblings close together. Hope it all works out. Now I have to check on this heart abalation [sp??] that your dh has. Not sure what that is. How is the painting coming along?

Slavika I don't know if my dh would trust me to give him a shot. I am thinking I would be a nervous wreck. That is some expensive medicine but if it works it is so worth it.

Gloria I live in Cincinnati. I have been to the Boston, Swampscott and Salem area but it has been many years ago. Used to have relatives there. I find losing weight a very frustrating thing to do. Seems it takes forever to lose a pound but overnight you can put on three. I just keep plugging away. I know in my heart what to do but my hand doesn't always follow.

Trudy that cold thing is going around here too. Hope you all are feeling better. I think the little angels name is the girl name they would have chosen. I bet she is getting big. She sounds so cute. If you look way down on the SW corner of Ohio that is where I am. About 15 min from either Kentucky or Indiana.

Welcome Jan. I just turned 64. I really can't believe that I am that old.

Ann what an interesting life you have had. And you never stop. I agreee with Maria that you should write down some the experiences.

Maria you have to be getting excited about the birth of Matty. It is amazing to hold the baby of your child. And I bet you will have tons of pictures, right??? I can't wait for you to experience it.

Going to an outlet mall today with my other son. Have a good day.

Good morning!
You all lead such interesting lives. Right now it is very quiet in my life, except for grandkids. However, next Friday DD#2 is going to DC with her family for a week for school vacation and guess what? We get to have their dog, a Chocolate Lab--7yrs old for the week. She is very hyper active and DH will love having his "own" dog to walk instead of asking the neighbors for a loan of theirs.

MariaYou must be very excited about the birth of your first grandchild. It is a very exciting time. Actually every new birth is exciting but the first is even more so. You do lead a very busy life moving from one place to another....always on the go. I realise that can be tiring after a while. Retirement will be a new adventure for you.

Ann Wow! Your DH came from around my neck of the woods. I grew up on the North Shore not far from Salem and when we were first married we lived in Swampscott. Small world!!!
When DH was in the service, Air National Guard, he was called up for active duty in "61. He was stationed in France and left me home with 3 kids under 3. About halfway through his tour he suggested that I come to Europe for a couple of weeks as he had leave time and it would only be my air fair since he was already their. I thought it very extravagant since we had just bought our home and with the small kids so I suggested that our 25th Anniv. would be a more appropriate time. He said that who knew where we would be then maybe wheelchairs....come. I did! I farmed out the kids to both sets of parents and was in Paris, the French Riviera, & Rome for 2 weeks. Wonderful time! I think back now and know it was the best thing because it was in the middle of his time away and I came back with a new perspective and was able to handle the next 6 months with the kids in a better frame of mind.
Later in '83 his civilian job sent him to Tokyo for a week and he took me with him. I was working at the time and since it was just before Christmas, retail job, my boss did not want to let me go but it was go for two weeks of I quit. Tokyo was such a wonderful place and I felt very save wandering around on my own while DH was at business. We got to go to Tokyo Disneyland which was fantastic. On the way home we stopped for a week in Hawaii. These experiences have lasted me a life time and we have never been sorry we took them.

JanDon't worry about being too old at 60....you youngster you! Next week I turn 72. Sometimes I don't even think that's old. :D

G'day all,

Start of yet another week and how nice to read all the posts this morning.

Gloria what an interesting life you have had (and still having ;) ) You made me smile about the baby sitting of the chocolate labrador. You cannot have your own dog or do you just enjoy having your dh 'borrowing' neighbours dogs? I love dogs but because of the life we lead, we do not have them anymore. My two papillions went back to the breeder when we started this life and both have now died. I don't think I would ever have dogs again, they are a big tie and I am so pathetic that I spoil them rotten :?:

Peggy We are starting to count the days for Matty to be born. We have booked flights to go home on May 13 but should she make an earlier appearance we can change the date. It certainly will be a whole new experience and it will be hard having to come back here again albeit only till June 30.

Slavika how are the injections going? I hope they are doing the job. I really don't understand how the cost of some of this medicine can be justified. I am glad you have not had to pay for them directly. Your pharmaceutical scheme seems to be very similar to our Australian one. What we hear about the health cost in America....
Hope you are starting to enjoy some nice spring weather. I think it was Trudy who told us that her tulips were making their appearance . Always such a cheerful and welcome sight after the dreariness of winter.

It would seem that we are skipping autumn, another hot day today. Our football season has started and it really is not meant to be played in 35 degree heat. We were worried about our ds who is playing his last season. The temperature on the football field was 39 degrees  but he survived the ordeal but was absolutely exhausted and is hoping for cooler weather next saturday.

Have a great day all,

Cheers
Maria

I am so jealous of the grandbaby talk! I can't even get my boys married.
I enjoy this group as you seem to all be more my age than some of the groups I get into. Nothing against the "I"m working on my doctorate, on the fast track at work & so busy" crowd, but I've been there, done that. My life is so much simpler now.
I just bought some 98% fat free ground beef and can't find the points value for anything below 95% per ounce. Does anyone know?

Maria I just have to tell you that we have always, til 3 years ago, had dogs. It started out with St. Bernards. When the kids were small we decided to get a dog but I said it had to be small enough to fit into a shoe box. DH brought home a St. Bernard in a shoe box....of course the next day he no longer fit in the box. :) All in all we had 3 of them over the years and then when DD#1 became a widow she was unable to care for their dog, a Golden Retriever, so we took him and had him for about 7 years. When he died we decided not to get another dog...you are right they tie you to the house and we had retired and did want to do some traveling. This is the reason for the 'borrowed' dogs. DH loves to walk anyway and the dogs are great companions and like grandchildren they go home and there are no Vet's bills.

Gloria my little Papillions could have been swallowed whole by your St. Bernards :D
I like your dh's sense a humour getting a dog that fits in a shoebox :D;)

BJ3 cannot help you with the points, calculations seem to slightly diffferent here in Australia:dizzy:, though 98% fatfree mince MUST be very good!

Nanacas, Have fun with the Lab. I have a yellow lab who is an old man. He is 13, but still runs like the wind if he can sneak out the front door. The only way I can get him back is to get the car out, chase him in it and open the door. He will get in to go for a ride, but I could never catch him on foot! They are such funny dogs. I also have two cats, who never go out as they are declawed. The Calico occasionally sneaks out the back door when it is opened. I send the Lab after her and he puts one big foot down to hold her until I come and pick her up to put her back inside. Don't know how he figured out how to do that!
Maria, is mince Australian for ground beef? It was very good for hamburgers on the grill!
Can someone tell me how to get the weight loss graphic at the end of your post?

flaggies
04-10-2005, 10:03 PM
yes, I what you call ground beef, we call mince.

I use it for spaghetti sauces and also sometimes use it to make hamburger patties.

Once upon a time it used to made from the rubbish leftovers of beef and full of fat but nowadays there are so many grades of mince. I usually get the very low fat one.

M

PS I just realised that the web address I had here for my personal website (photos) was wrong. It has now been corrected and perhaps the new people might like to have a look at some of the photos on this site that we have taken since being in Sydney.

Hi,

It is fun to read about all the different lifestyles here. Gloria it would be funny if you lived by my relatives in Swampscott or Salem. I can't begin to imagine how much food those St. Bernard's ate. We have mixed breed, mostly terrier. He is 12 but in good shape.

BJ3 I had to laugh at you wanting grandbabies. I just had the first and it took them 5 years to get him. I was thinking that maybe I wouldn't see one in my lifetime. I don't know the points value of the ground beef. Karen or Lily might know.

We just took dh's parents to see the baby. He is so tiny-his little arms are so thin. You forget how little they are. He was mostly sleeping.

Maria didn't know that ground beef was called mince. We always get the lowest fat kind and sometimes get ground turkey.

Well that is as exciting as it gets here today.

It is really nice to welcome BJ13, Gloria & Jan. If you have been reading our posts for a while you already know we are a friendly bunch. I don't know who the youngest or oldest are, we have so much in common, it really doesn't matter.
l lb of x-lean hamburger (mince) is 20 points. One of our old WW leaders gave us this point value a few years ago.

I shall come back with more to say later... bye for now.

G'day all,

Just after lunch here, overcast warm day.
We have picked up our new computer system this morning.
We got it for a good price but it all seems a bit shonky ;) The cost was $1925 and we had $2000 cash with us. The bloke just took the money and stuck it in his back pocket, did not count it. We then pointed out we would like some change which we did get.
As soon as we came home dh opened the computer box to ensure that all the paraphernalia that he had ordered was in fact in there.
Thank goodness it all was and dh is now loading windows xp operating system, and after that I will be starting to load all my programs on it.
Lets hope it will go really fast as I have been promised, but for the time being I won't be holding my breath!!!
In theory this should last us for years..........

Peggy strange that we all speak english yet use different words for different things. I suppose 'mincing' and 'grinding' both describe beef mince.
We call a 'cell phone' a 'mobile phone'. Lot of american words have come into the Australian vocabulary much to the annoyance of the 'dyed in the wool' Aussies.
I spoke to d-i-l last night and she cannot wait to have Matilda, we have had some very hot weather in Adelaide and she has just had enough.
I remember that feeling well towards the end of both my pregnancies.

You are right Trudy age is only a number. The important thing is to try and stay active, fit and healthy.

See ya tomorrow.

Cheers
Maria

 Hi Everybody :)

Welcome to the new gals on our board. :grouphug:

It's been raining off and on all day today. I did go out to the stores for a bit. DH has a bad cold and cough so he stayed home. :(
I didn't have tea time today, and I sure miss seeing the gals. I just baked a new recipe for a "Baked Oatmeal Cake" which you can eat by cutting a piece and pouring milk over it. It sure smells good. My grandson was here yesterday after school and he said to me, "Baba, you're 65 years old, right". I said yes I was, and he said, I just want to tell you that you sure don't look older then 56 years. :D  Boy no wonder I love him so much....heaven only knows how he came up with a number like 56 ???
Maria looks like you are getting all set up with a new computer. I am going to get a new one too. I don't need a monitor or speakers but my computer is getting kind of old. It still works ok, so I am not in any rush. BJ3 my grandson would just love to have a golden lab. My dil is allergic to fur faced critters although the children do have a little guinea pig. I call her my "grandpig". LOL
Tomorrow in DH is feeling ok, I think I will go out to lunch and a day of shopping with my friend. It's nice to see my friends and it's good for me too.
Nothing else much new.......I weighed myself this morning and the scale has not moved at all. :p
I guess I am not putting enough effort into to getting these extra pounds off.
Talk to you all soon. Bye now.

G'day all,

I am just exhausted :tired: but very happy!
I may have told you about a friend of ours has set up his own consultancy business and he has been ringing me about 5 times a day for assistance with various tasks.
This afternoon I got his webpage up and he is thrilled and so am I!
It has been on my mind such a lot and this morning it all fell together.

It is 5.20 pm here and I have just been to get something for our dinner and shouted myself a couple of classical CD's. I felt I deserved them!

Our new computer will be fantastic but at the moment it is a bit of a nightmare configuring the jolly thing   DH is determined to do it all so I just leave him alone and let him go for it and try and ignore the mutterings that come from his side of the dining room table (our home office ;) )

Slavika what a grandson you have  56 sounds a pretty good number to me!
I hope your dh was well enough for you to get out of the house.
Did you buy any 'bargains'?? With all my work I have not had a chance to get any bargains though when I was tossing up which CD to get (both $24.95 each) the fellow said I could have them both for $40. Of course I could not resist a 'saving' of $9.85 :D

I better be off and get dinner going.

See ya in the morning all,

Cheers

It is so nice to hear from you, Slavika. I hope you are getting to go out and shop. There is nothing like shopping! I am hopeful you DH is doing better. You have such a sweet grandson. Yesterday I took off to take care of Makenzie while her mom had 4 hours to herself. When I was going home, I stopped at other son's house to see the little boys. Austin (almost 4) asked me, very seriously, if I had brought my Papa with me. I had so much fun yesterday, but driving home in the dark I made a goof and ended up driving an extra 30 miles. Sure was glad to get home.

Just made my consult appointment with the whatever she is called to talk about the permanent makeup. Cannot wait. I am so eager.

Peggy, so how is the new grandmother? Still in a euphoric haze? And it just gets better and better.

Gloria, BJE and Jan, what is in a number? We are all struggling with our weight and having a good time at this time in our lives. BJ3, once you get your boys married, you will certainly enjoy the next phase--grandmotherhood. You must be an animal lover. I am just getting over (don't know if that is possible) having to put our baby Kassie to sleep. She was a Schnoodle and was the closest thing to a child. I am not ready to get another.......yet.

Maria, mince is a good word for ground beef. I hope you enjoy your new computer. Sounded like that businessman was a little iffy though. Can you imagine taking a wad of money and just putting it in your pocket?

Everyone, have a great day. I have certainly enjoyed meeting you new ladies. Jan4945, I love your weight scale. How much do you want to lose more? You are certainly doing fabulous!

Slavika good to see you. Hope DH is feeling better.

Glad everyone else sounds happy and healthy. We still have company but she goes tomorrow. Our new puter came yesterday and we have a geek guy coming in on Friday to help us get some of the stuff we want to save out of this one. Need a Geek guy for that. Wish Maria or Lily were here. I'm sure they could get us on the right track. Gotta go catch you later.

I guess I will start this morning. I'm sure no one else is awake. I woke up at 3:30 today. I've learned to just give up, get up and get busy. (Or as busy as I get anymore.) The maid comes today and I have my little messes to clean up that I don't think she should have to deal with. I put everything up as I've learned that no one else knows where I want my "stuff". George Carlin does the funniest bit on our "stuff". Has anyone else heard it? The older I get, the more stuff I get rid of.
Yes, Glenda I am quite an animal lover. I can't imagine how hard it must be to have to
put one to sleep, but I know that is the kindest thing to do sometimes. I also think we are more humane to animals in that respect than people. Oooh, too morbid for this early in the morning!
Isn't it funny how much of our time and energy goes into our computers now? In some ways they simplify our lives so, and yet when something goes wrong they can drive you insane. My break is over. Everyone have a lovely day! It is in the 80's in Texas and beautiful this week. Of course in August I will be wanting to move north when it's in the 100s.

survivor
04-14-2005, 11:56 AM
BJ3, you are from Texas? We are almost neighbors since I am just north of you. Today should be about 70 degrees here in Stillwater, OK. Are you into Texas sports? Our school (OSU) plays in the Big 12 with all the Texas schools. I am so impressed. You have a maid. I am my maid and she doesn't come very often.

Karen, you have about made it! And you don't sound overly stressed so they must have all been good children. By the way, did your other SIL talk to the one who has such a problem with medicine about taking it? Oh well. Sometimes sisters can talk sense to sisters. Mine is a huge influence in my life.

All, we have made it through winter and spring (except for you, Maria) is about to be sprung here. Hallelujah!

Hi Everybody :)

BJ3 good morning.....you sure were an early bird today. I agree sometimes, it's just better to get up instead of laying there thinking, "will I ever fall back to sleep". Next, you start thinking about all the stuff you have to do and then you just figure the heck with it and get up. Before my DH was diagnosed with cancer this past December, we had thought we might like to buy "a place" in Texas in one of the senior parks to spend the worse part of our winters in. We have put that idea on hold until we see how he will be when his treatments are finished. We did visit an aunt and uncle in a place called Weslaco, Tx. We spent a couple of weeks with them and had a great time. We also like to holiday in Maui, but it's to expensive to stay there for months with our Canadian dollar, but we do manage to go for one month. If all goes well we hope to go back next winter for 6 weeks. I think it's good for DH to have something nice to look forward to while going through treatment. :)
He had a cold the last couple of days, and although he is still coughing he feels better today, so I will take him out for an "airing". LOL  It looks like we are in for a lovely spring day. Talk to you all later. Bye for now. :)

Glenda, I'm afraid I'm not into sports of any kind much. Even though one of my sons is a coach. (football & golf) The only sports I really ever got into was when one of my sons were playing. Then I mostly just sat there and prayed. (Especially with football - so many injuries) Don't be too impressed with the maid. She only comes once every two weeks. I wish I could have her every day! I would almost give up food to fit her into the budget - and as a fan of this site we all know how important food is.
Slavika, I am so sorry about your husbands illness! You will be in my prayers that he recovers quickly. When he does if you are still interested in wintering in Texas look into the Padre Island area. It is absolutely gorgeous and very friendly. I've only been there once for a week, but loved it. My goal used to be to retire to a little beach house there or even Galveston. However after living through a flood during Allison and it taking a year to get my house back those dreams went out the window. We have too many hurricane warnings and I don't want to have to run everytime one comes along. (Or come back to a house washed out to sea!)
I'd like to know about the baked oatmeal also.
Have a great day yall!

Just a short note to say Hi before the weekend.

Slavika I, too, am sorry to hear about your husbands illness. He will be in our prayers for a smooth recovery.

Bj3 I know what you mean about sports. Grandson #3 is into football and I cannot bring myself to watch. Just pray. Ten years ago DD#1 lived in Dallas for two years and we did get down to see them but not much away from the Dallas area. Someday I would like to visit San Antonio...I hear it is beautiful.

Karen, Glenda, Maria Hope you all have a great weekend.

It is Patriot's Day weekend here and Monday is the Boston Marathon...no I am not running this year!

G'day all,

Trust you are all having a good weekend.

Gloria I have given the marathon run here in Sydney a miss as well :D ;) I had a quick look on the net about your Patriots Weekend. Sounds interesting and fun. It is good to remember our history.

BJ3 I am a bit the same about sports, never played it in my life but both my children and dh are very keen sports people. My daughter-in-law plays netball for Australia, has won a world championship and has won gold at 2 Commonwealth Games. As soon as her baby is born she will be back into full training and she hopes to be selected for the Australian Team in the upcoming Commonwealth Games (March 2006)
It is all a bit beyond my comprehension. I told her she may not want to go back to full training after the baby is born but she is very determined and has the support of my son. Our son now only plays football and golf, I always worry about injuries.

Karen everything must have gone OK with all the sisters and brother together!

Slavika hope your dh is getting over his cold and is feeling well enough for your regular 'airings' ;)

I have completed another website for a customer....phew. It was somewhat easier than the last one I did but I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination :( So much too learn. :dizzy:
I have 2 collages to complete and then I also want to learn how to burn DVD's on this new computer of ours. DH has spent all day 'fine tuning' it, still not quite right.
Off to the football tomorrow, our Adelaide team is playing here in Sydney. Few supporters make the trip to Sydney so it is important we go and show our support.

Cheers for now....

Thanks everybody for asking about DH. He's feeling good today and it's a nice warm sunny day. He is going to spend some time with son and grandson this afternoon, and right now has gone to the store and garage. :)

Here's the recipe for the Baked Oatmeal. You serve it warm and pour milk over it, and eat it like a breakfast cereal/or as a warm dessert. Love it!!!
It makes a 9x13 pan, so the next day you just have to put some in a bowl and nuke it and it tastes great.

Baked Oatmeal
3 cups Quaker Oats Quick Oats (but not the instant stuff)
1 cup Brown sugar(you could cut that back and add Splenda when you eat it)
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
2 eggs
1/2 cup melted margarine
2 tespoons vanilla
Add 3/4 cup dried cranberries or raisins (I used cranberries)

Just mix all the ingredients together and pour into a sprayed 9x13 pan (I use a glass one). Bake 350 for about 30 to 35 min. Slice into squares and serve warm with milk poured over it. It's a great treat for breakfast and especially nice if you have guests. You can make it the day before and just heat it up in the microwave.

Ok the points:
3 cups of Quick Oats = 12 points
1 cup Brown Sugar = 16 points
1 cup milk = 2 points
2 eggs = 4 points
1/2 cup margarine = 24 points
3/4 cup Ocean Spray Cranberries = 6 points

Total points = 64 points.
You gals will have to judge for yourselves how much you would would consider a serving....and NO half the pan is not considered one serving. LOL LOL
The only thing I cut back on was the sugar....I guess you could try cutting back a little on margarine and using apple sauce, but this is a new recipe and I haven't done much fooling around with it. It's a quick recipe and I think you will all like it. :)

Thanks Slavika for the recipe. I figured it would be 12 serving? Or 10 so we are talking 5 - 7 points. not bad for once in a while. I will make it in the morning but will only make 1/2 of the recipe. Sounds good for a chilly morning. And we have been having chilly mornings.

Glad DH was feeling better today. It's nice that he can spend time with his son and grandson.

All my Mom told me the other day that Chemo will only prolong my Dads life and not cure as I had hoped. Not the news I really wanted to hear. I have been sitting on this foe days turning it over in my mind not sure how to deal with it. I know he is 78 and has a good run. But still. I will get through this I know.

Have to go see you all later.

Hi Karen
There is no cure for my DH cancer "Multiple Myeloma" either. The best we can hope for is that his cancer will go into remission. Even if it goes into remission, there is no guarantee that it won't come back.....but we will deal with it one day at a time. Karen, if you said what kind of cancer your Dad has, I'm not sure I remember now, was it colon cancer? :( Even though there isn't a cure for his cancer the chemo can buy him time and life is so precious, and as long as he is not in any pain encourage your parents to do all they can to enjoy their time together. I'm really sorry Karen that you have to have to go through this. I know it's hard for you because it's your Dad and it doesn't matter how old he is, you love him and it hurts. I'll keep him in my prayers.

Slavika thanks for the kind words and wisdom. It is Colon cancer. My parents haven't really let this get them down. They still are doing everything they did before. Dad maintains a sense of humor and a positive attitude. I guess I'd be smart to do the same.
