Does it Work? - Star Caps

My local GNC has started carrying "Star Caps." Any thoughts on these? Has anyone tried them? My main question: are they safe?
The product is very expensive: $80 with the Gold Card discount! It appears to contain a papaya enzyme and garlic and must be a diuretic of some kind because potassium in the form of orange juice or a banana must be taken with the pill.
I admit it...I'm looking for a quick fix before vacation. (Haven't had any luck finding a new dress to fit me, so I must squeeeeeeze into one that I have.)

OK I'll bite...why is this soooo special? Papaya enzyme is about $3.00 for the pills as is a garlic supplement.....Lasix, (the grand-daddy of all prescription diuretics) costs me $1.00 for 30 generic pills(my doctor gives me a scrip.) However, eating cucumbers or asperagus also seems to have a diuretic effect for me......
$80.00 will buy me a very fancy bra and tanga panties from Victoria's secret and I have enough $$ leftover for a small bottle of their perfume..... I' d rather investmy $$ in lingerie!
shame on GNC! don't they also sell the electric belt that is supposed to shock your abdominal muscles while you lay around eating M&Ms?

Ok, you know I can't resist :p
Now you can have the amazing diet secret Hollywood is buzzing about. Created by the diet queen to the stars Nikki Haskell, StarCaps is a natural dietary supplement containing a rare blend of papaya and garlic that helps metabolize protein, eliminate bloat and detoxify your system. StarCaps is a quick, effective way to melt off 10-125 pounds and makes dieting easy! The secret is the unique ingredients -- and all-natural blend of papaya and garlic from the higher Andes of Peru. Just two capsules a day help metabolize protein, eliminate bloat and detoxify your system. StarCaps are safe and effective. Each bottle is a two-week supply and includes a diet booklet.
Eliminate bloat and detoxify your system? Detox products are a big scam, there's no such thing. This is usually a good sign the product is going to give you the runs. Yes, you will probably lose a couple of pounds, due to the fluid loss.
Love those catch words (ie red flags) melt off 10-125 pounds
What the heck is a "rare blend of papaya and garlic"? True, you'd rarely eat your papaya with garlic
Ingredients:
Natural Extract Papaya & Garlic, Valerian, Corn Spices, Papain (protein digestive enzyme), Magnesium Carbonate & Magnesium Oxide less than 0.1%
Papayas are very good for you, but only real, fresh papayas. Papaya extract is used in meat tenderizers, and even in skin creams. However, it doesn't help weight loss.
Garlic supplements are thought to reduce blood pressure and cholesterol, but this has not been proven. See http://wellnessletter.com/html/ds/dsGarlicPills.php for an excellent article on this.
Valerian is a natural supplement used to treat insomnia. Not weight loss.

Papain: Papaya
Magnesium Carbonate & Magnesium Oxide
Some studies have shown that magnesium might have an effect on insulin resistance, if you have a magnesium deficiency. This has not been well studied or proven yet, and dosages would likely be more than what is in this product. This is something that should be treated under the care of a physician, since magnesium deficiencies may also indicate a higher incidence of cardiovascular disease. Excessive magnesium can cause diarrhea, nausea, cramps, muscle weakness, and heart abnormalities.
Btw, magnesium oxide is a laxative. There's your detox.

Directions/Recommended Usage:
As a dietary supplement, take one StarCap a day in the morning, for the first two days, with a glass of orange juice. Then, take two StarCaps a day, one in the morning and one in mid-afternoon, with a glass of orange juice. Avoid sugar, butter and cheese.
Key words: Avoid sugar, butter, and cheese.
Average online cost: $65 for a two week supply.

"Imported from the Higher Andes of Peru!".....do we need any more verification? Are people who inhabit the Andes Mountains thinner than those who live at sea level? I've never heard of "Nikki Haskell" is she a RD, MD, PhD? or has a degree is phamacology? duhhhhhh.
in the same vein, I had the TV on this AM getting ready for work and this statement came across an info-mercial....."Seaweed can heal you. It wasn't proved for years that the earth was round either"..I can't quote it ver-batim, but you get the general idea....

Apparently she is the "diet queen of the stars" And she provided photos of thin celebs at a party to prove the point
I googled her and could only find references to her giving parties for people. Maybe she is a professional party planner?

Was it the one with the man that promotes his book by trying to convince us there is a health care conspiracy to keep us from learning that cancer and other diseases are cured by common herbs and household ingredients, so the pharmaceutical giants and insurance companies can become richer while the poor die off from cancer?

Gladdy:
Tanga panties come in all sizes and make EVERYONE's buttisimo look attractive! I refer to them as "special occasion" wear as they are a bit expensive (IMO).......$30.00 a pair but they are well made and make me feel attractive, so it's a treat I can live with.
Suzanne: I don't which info-merical it was, but it was such an inane statement, my ears perked up.....GOOD GRIEF!!!! these people are as bad as the WORLD-WIDE PRESIDENT AND CEO of manufacturing SATISE----the science-miracle of the POTATO! (that one was on today too). ooooh I want to slap them!

Or maybe by now (I didn't check the link to see what she looked like) she would be Eddie's wife...remember the series ran from the mid-1950s to around 1961, I think..?
Used to be one of my favorite rerun shows to watch when I was a kid. Remember Mrs. Cleaver had a cookie jar AND a cookie drawer?? No wonder all the neighborhood kids liked to hang out there.
