General Diet Plans and Questions - Success with Slim Fast #5
05-22-2001, 04:11 PM
thought I'd pump a little air into a new thread and see if we can't keep it going.
On my sixth full day of Slim-Fast and doing pretty well. I have a vacation coming up in September and want to lose a bit of weight before I go.
I'm also on the Buddy Board at the Slim-Fast website.
How is everyone else doing? I've lost three pounds so far and feel like I can do more! I basically use the shake with soy protein and the snack bars. I eat my big meal at lunch instead of dinner; that way, my stomach is pretty empty when I get home and I can exercise a little.
"Never weigh more than your refrigerator!"
I'm losing it

Could you please give me a sample of what you eat on Slim Fast. I find myself hungry on this and was wondering if I'm not eating enough. I have a meal to go bar in the morning, piece of fruit in mid-morning, shake at lunch and by 2:00 I'm famished and can't seem to make it until my evening meal. I can't always have my big meal at lunch because of work. Thanks!

I, too, am on the Buddy Board with Slim-Fast. I have a very light breakfast as I'm not a real breakfast person. I'l have a banana (for the potassium) and maybe some good-for-you cereal along with my daily cup of coffee. But I do know not to skip meals!!!
I have Slim-Fast for lunch and sometimes add a couple of small crackers for something to chew. This will hold me until mid-afternoon when I'll have a snack of fruit. I'm not real big on fruit so this is a giant step for me!!!
Then I'll have a "real" supper - I cook a really nice meal because my husband is still working and he deserves a decent meal in the evening after being on the go all day long.
I'm not a snacker so supper holds me, but if I need something before bed I will have a little something but not much.
Also, I drink LOTS of water all day long which really helps. Sometimes when I think I'm hungry I'm really thirsty instead.
I hope this helps some - I'm no expert and I'm trying along with everyone else!!! Carleen...

hey you guys! I'm on the buddy board too over at slimfast (feelinfroggy)
Anyway, I am still stuck for the 3rd week in a row with no weight loss. (not even inches) Anybody got any ideas?
My typical day (I try to change it up though to keep it interesting!) I have a bar for breakfast, a frozen slushy shake (put a can in the freezer for about 1/2 hour to an hour) and then my main meal is dinner most times. I do however eat lunch sometimes and then a shake from the blender in the evening. I have found that if I eat lunch, I may not even drink that shake at night. It's weird. I also drink plenty of water!!!To fight the munchies I (TRY) to eat fruit, a SF snack bar (these are really good!!) or 1 serving of a clear soup (a serving is usually 1 cup). If I have a snack, I have a glass of water right after; it just helps me fill up more. As you all know, I try to stay at 1200 calories a day; but I've found if I plan what my day will be like (eating wise) I always get make it to that calorie limit.
I'm just so darn frustrated that I haven't been able to move the scale in 3 weeks. I'm about ready to give up. I have a long way to go you guys, I wish I could get rolling. I want to be down to 200 by vacation the last part of august. I don't know if I can do it!!! Again, any ideas?

Since we all seem to be stuck in the same place, here are some tips I got from successful Slim-Fasters. I'm going to try a few myself, because I need to drop some weight in a hurry.
1. Daily calorie intake should be between 1500 and 1600 calories. 1200 calories and below put your body into a starvation mode and it won't let go of the weight.
2. Drink the water. It helps the body process the food you eat.
3. Have crunchy veggies with your snack. They don't add calories but will help fill you up.
4. Cut the bars into little pieces and really savor every bite. It lasts longer and you feel like you've had a whole box of candy instead of one bar.
I have a little baked potato before I go to bed. Helps me sleep good by keeping the serotonin levels in the brain more even. I also find that when I eat the potato, I don't wake up absolutely STARVING the next morning.
I make my shakes with banana. I've also used the fruit flavors for the morning shake and like it pretty well. Seems to help keep me from getting hungry.
As it is, I get really hungry about every 3 hours on this plan. If I get hungry, I eat something, but try to make sure it isn't empty calories.
I'm giving this program a fair shot for 21 days. If it doesn't get the job done (if I stay ravenously hungry, or have no energy) I'll look for something else.
Glad so many are on the buddy board at Slim Fast. The people I've met over there are really friendly.
Our favorite boat was called "feelin' froggy." I miss her. We sold her this year.
Have a great day! I hope I don't come across as a smarty pants. I did a LOT of reading before I committed to this 21 days and hope what I found helps us.

you have some great tips! I have to admit that mostly, I probebly hit 1350-1400 calories a day. I'm not real great at portion sizing, but I try. (One of my passions is cooking and I LOVE good food!! LOL) I just wish the scale would move down a notch or two. (I'm so impatient!!! LOL) Thanks for the tips!

I have been reading your posts and wanted to know if I could join your thread. I just started the Slimfast plan and I am also on the buddy thread with the Slimfast website. I have about 90 pounds to lose and I have been struggling with it for most of my life. I have tried several different things in the last year and nothing has really worked for me. I am hoping that this is the one. So far I have doing well on it. I have a shake in the morning. Then I eat a good lunch and a snack in the afternoon and then a shake for dinner. Sometimes will eat a snack before bed if I haven't gone over on my calories. I am keeping my calories at about 1500 a day. I really could use all the support I can get and I am more than willing to give it.
05-24-2001, 09:04 AM
welcome!!! We're glad to have you!
05-25-2001, 08:59 AM
Wow!I can't keep up with all you gals. I was still back at #3! Frogger let me tell you I went thhrough 3 months of not loosing anything and was quite readdy to quit. But I stuck it out and when spring got here I started loosing again. Are you excersising? That might help. I get mine mowing the lawn, horseback riding and walking. Yard work is great excersise and when you are done there is the reward of a beautiful yard\garden etc. Also spring is so pretty that it makes walking a joy, maby get some friends togather for a hike in a state or national park.
As far as getting hungry every three hours. I make sure to eat every three hours to keep my metabolism up. Like stoking a fire. if you grab something light like a piece of fruit before you get hungry you are less likly to get those intense munchies. Hope this was helpfull.

Serrano: I love your "Never weigh more than your refrigerator!"
I have wanted to try Slim Fast:
1. I don't like to cook on a daily basis
2. I can use the time each day NOT cooking
3. I do like the taste, flavor
So, now it's just to go at it.....I need support and would like to join you.

Where is the buddy list on the slim fast site????
05-28-2001, 04:32 PM
Go to http://www.slim-fast.com
You have to register with them (it's free) and then you access the buddy boards.
Once there, you "invite" people to be your buddy, and you can select from several ways to search. This search option helps find people you have things in common with.
Come visit us! I also use http://www.fitday.com to record what I eat. Dietwatch is better, but won't load over the network at my office, so I use Dietwatch at home, when I use it. Fitday will work either place.
Let us hear your progress! Glad you're here.
(who weighs just a little less than her refrigerator  )

I always used the milk choccolate powder. I find the new one says stirs in easily, but it doesn't seem as thick as it used to be. I really miss the thickness. Anyone else fine this to be the case?

Hey welcome to all the newbies! This thread sure is growing. Just wanted to report in I am soooo happy. Frogger hang in there. I was in the same fix for the last month. Well I am happy to report I lost 4# this week!:dizzy: I could not believe my eyes this morning. I actually had to look three times! 55 down- 80 to go to my goal weight. I have been working on this now for just over a year. I am actuall only 15 pounds from what I weighed in 1993 when I got married! Seven years to put it on and only a year and a half or so to get rid of it. Hope you gals have success too:)

I've been a lurker but I just wanted to sat that it is so wonderful to see you all having success with Slim Fast. I have to admit, I have been toying around with different plans for months (and gained a total of 5 lbs. trying them then deciding I didn't like them LOL!). I swear, everywhere I look, people are saying sugar is soooooo bad for you and so I try to make myself stick to one of these low-carb, high-protein plans and I JUST CAN'T STICK TO THEM! I am just not that much of a meat eater.
I've wanted so badly to start Slim Fast but I think I've been brainwashed that somehow sugar turns straight to fat on me and as long as I'm eating anything starchy or sugary (like the SF shakes), I'm just wasting my time and helping to put more fat on myself. I've wanted to start Slim Fast but it's as if this "sugar is evil" mindset makes me give up on the SF plan before I've even begun.
Your positive weight loss experiences with Slim Fast have really inspired me and helped me to believe again that sugar isn't the horrible demon many make it out to be.
Thank you all for your wonderful updates on yourselves here. I am going to give this a try. I am FED UP with feeling horrible about myself. It doesn't have to be this way.
225/ 160 eventually!!! :)
05-30-2001, 11:07 PM
just wanna say i think sugar does go to to fat. thats why i use twinfast instead of slimfast. its lots less in sugar&really fills you.
05-31-2001, 08:34 AM
Guess what you guys! Down 1 lb today! The plateau is OVER! (I hope!) After 4 weeks of stalling!!! Thanks for all of your support. Let's keep losing everyone! Think thin. Think thin!
How is everyone else today? Hope you all have a great day!
05-31-2001, 11:39 AM
yay!! thats great!! congrats.:)
i just finished my first week&am down 6 1/4! im happy&hoping for 1/2 that the second week. well, heres to another week!
05-31-2001, 06:01 PM
Well I am on my 11th day of Slimfast and feeling great. I have a total loss so far of 6 pounds and it is great. I am really liking the Slimfast alot. I wasn't sure I could stick with it, but I am. I can't wait to see how much weight will come off in the weeks ahead. I am so happy that I have finally found something that will work for me.
Frogger - That is so great that your plateau is broken. Way to go! It is so great that you stuck with it and didn't let it stop you from working on this journey.
Jenny - Welcome, I was like you in that I wasn't sure about the Slimfast, but now that I am on it I really like it alot. I do wish that is didn't have as much sugar, but it is doing great things for me so I am not going to complain to much. Hope it goes well for you!!
KD580 - Congrats on your loss. I am curious what Twinfast is and where do you find it. I haven't heard of it before. But I like the idea of not as much sugar.
I hope that you are all having an awesome Slimfast day. :)
05-31-2001, 07:37 PM
tundragirl- glad you like it. twinfast is the same as slimfast, but its manufactured by twinlab& is a powder. it comes in chocolate, vanilla&strawberry& is only 5g sugar. im not sure what state you are in, but in ny, i havent found it anywhere except online at www.vitaminshoppe.com. its catalog number TL1465&i think the vanila is TL1466. the vitaminshoppe offers a free program where you earn points for buying stuff&then 1x year you get $for free stuff.
05-31-2001, 08:48 PM
KD- Thank you! I will check into it. I am in Oregon and probably won't find it here either. 5 grams of sugar is quite a difference. I wonder why Slimfast hasn't started to make theirs with less sugar. Maybe they will get the hint sometime soon and do the same thing.
06-01-2001, 11:42 AM
im not sure why either. also look at carbolite egg white powder. its great&carb, fat&sugar free. www.netrition.com. i mix half scoop of carboliy=te wh 1/2 scoop twinfast.
06-02-2001, 12:15 PM
well today is day 10, and im down 6.6.
06-02-2001, 10:41 PM
I don't use slimfast, I use another drink called Complete but there is no support group for it. I love my drink, I didn't like the taste of Slimfast- no offense. I have it everyday for breakfast and it keeps me full.
06-03-2001, 12:16 PM
welcome! i dont see the harm. i dont use it either. i use a creation i made myself. its qa combo of twinlab twinfast& morico carbolite. today is day 11 for me&im down 7 1/4.
06-04-2001, 12:42 PM
It feels good to be welcomed in. I am bummed because I am out of my Complete and won't have it till the end of the week. I miss it! I got used to haveing it for breakfast- it keeps me full!
Have a great day! It is rainy here!

I am sad to admit that I stopped using my slimfast for about 3 weeks. I had only been on it for 2wks before quitting. :( I was so faithful and only lost 1 pound. I got really discouraged. However I believe it has been to my advantage because when the weight came off after the second week. I felt like it was not coming off fast enough or that it just would not work for me. I am also reminded that we sometimes lose inches prior to pounds. My clothes and my dressing mirror reminded me. I could hardly get into my suit this morning. I learned the hard way but I learned. I brought a case yesterday and I am going to start back today until I reach my goal.
Ok my question is can any of you help me out by giving me some ideas of what to eat prior to and for dinner? Usually while on slimfast by the time dinner comes around I am starving which I know is not good and it causes me to overeat at dinner time.
Thank you so much for sharing.
06-05-2001, 02:38 PM
i know how you feel. im having a rough week. all of a sudden the scale is going up&i dont know why, but im trying to hang in there&you should to. it seems like you can eat whatever you like for dinner. however, i would like to make a suggestion that may help with the hunger end of things. i am not on slimfast, i am on what is called twinfast. its made by twinlab. its the same as slimfast minus all the sugar& it keeps me so full i dont snack b/c its lots higher in protein&much lower in carbs than slimfast. perhaps this is an option for you. i buy mine at www.vitaminshoppe.com. the chocolate is TL1465&the vanilla is TL1466.
I just wondered where you purchase Complete.
I too use slim-fast but in two hours I'm hungry again. I'd like to try a different product to see if if holds me longer.
Thanks for the reply.
06-15-2001, 01:59 PM
where is everyone?
well, i kept screwing up lately, but got my act together sunday&am down 6 pounds.
06-15-2001, 02:18 PM
sorry to say that the slimfast plan was no longer working for me. I believe it was beginning to be to few calories for my body even with snacks. I'm still drinking plenty of water and am going to try the WOL (walk of life) plan. It's a 10 week commitment to changing the way you live with excersise (walking) and sensible meals. thanks you guys for all of the support that you have given me throughout everything. I'll be starting a thread on the WOL to help me with my progress.
06-15-2001, 04:42 PM
JUST WANT TO WISH YOU LUCK!!
06-20-2001, 11:12 AM
Wow check out all the new goodies! :spin: Hey girls please don't give up. I know it is hard to keep up with the diet when you can't see youreself making any progress. I have been there. Stoped loosing for weeks, Started regaining some, Have not lost any, get hungry. I have been there! Over the winter I not only stoped loosing I gained 10 pounds. Then for a while I stalled and could not loose anything. I had to stop and really look at what I was doing and eating. I discovered I was cheating a lot more than I realized and not excercising at all. It was very difficult to make adjustments and not just quit. I had that why bother I just don't have the self control to do it and why should I torture myself, attitude. Fortunatly I prayed and got through it. Refuse to give in. I have not lost anything recently, but being on my period could be the reason. Even when I am not activly looseing though I do see changes in myself. I can actually mow my small yard without stopping every two minnuts! I dont get winded waklking up the hill I live on. I can catch my horse without having an asthma attack. I can ride for more than an hour withoug being exausted. Stop and make youre own list what can you do now that you could not do last year?
As for being hugry between meals. Yopu can beef up youre slimfast shake by blending it with fruit and ice to make a great shake. Try vanilla with banana, strawberries, or whatever you enjoy. This adds fiber which is very filling. For between meals I like caned fruit, lowfat muffins or quick breads, granola or cereal bars, Canned vegetables, jello, lowfat frozen yougurt, fugicles, popsicles, salad. There are so many things to choose from. Read the lables and make sure you keep you calories at a reasonable number. I never go more than three hours without eating something. Don't wait till you get hungry. This way you will not feel like you are starving by dinner tme. If youre body thinks it is that hungry it will not allow you to loose the fat it has stored for such emergencies! I hope this has ben helpful. I have been doing this for over a year and though it is very slow I am loosing the weight. Dont give up. You can do it.:smug:
06-20-2001, 11:19 AM
congrats!1 and yes, your pd will kill all:( im doing ok, it will be 2 weeks sunday that i restarted, and am down 6.6, total of 9 pounds since 5-25.
06-24-2001, 12:36 PM
Hey guess what? I finally lost more weight! :D I was really wondering if I would but I did! We really need a jumping up and down smily. Anyway I got on the scale this morning and almost fell off. It said 262! That is 5 pounds more in a week! I decided to cut way back on the carbs, mostly because in this hot weather It was making me ill to eat such heavy food. I was just sticking to veggies and meat as well as the slimfast of course. 10 pounds to go to get to my first major goal of 250. That was what I weighed in 1993 when I got married. Can't believe I've lost nearly 60 pounds. Don't give up girls, we really can do it!
06-24-2001, 01:15 PM
congrats!! heres a suggestion: as long as your cutting way down on carbs, why not consider trying twinFAST instead of slimfast. it only has 100cals&7gcarbs. good luck!
06-25-2001, 05:41 PM
Thanks I might try it if I see it in the store here. The thing is I get a great deal on slimfast at my warehouse club. Also why change something that is working? Please don't be offended but i am happy with what I have and don't really see the need to adjust that aspect of my diet further. I just needed to make some adjustments in my one real meal of the day. I have to confess I was really eating too much for dinner. I hate to throw out those leftovers and there is not enough to bother saving. so if I just don't make it I won't eat it. It is really hard to cook a healthy meal for just one person. :( :nono:
