hey Sherrita - good for you getting in your 3 miles this morning!
YOU GO GIRL!
I thought I had reached my goal of 30 miles last month, but I just went back and looked and I had actually set a goal of 40 miles for February. oh well - didn't make that - did 30 miles - but hey - I did what I could. Why is life is so dang busy anyway???
Hmmmmmm my goal for this month - I'm tempted to say 30 but I will say 40 and press forward!
I'm planning on walking at noon and will post it when I do it!

I only got in 22 of the 30 that I wanted for February -- so for March I'm going with 31 -- at least 1 mile for every day! Good luck ladies! :D

Hey Kendrea! I don't know how you get in the walking with a 3 month old baby! wow - it's hard to get around to the walking and exercise with a new baby. I remember those days - well barely - but still. Do you put her in the stroller and go?
I did 2 miles during lunch on the :tread: :cp:

Wow you're all getting off to a great start! :D I did more mall walking last night with my boyfriend. I don't know how many miles it would equal to. I'm tempted to say at least 1 mile because its a large mall and we did many laps. We were there for an hour and 1/2 with very few stops. I'm really glad he's been walking with me. Helps keep me motivated and will get us both in shape. Probably not doing any tonight. Thanks for starting the thread Cathy. :D

May I join you? Several days a week, I work from my home office. On those days, I hardly move. I would love to get in the habit of taking breaks and walking around more. My goal for March will be 30 miles.

Macon, of course you can join us!
I am at my desk at work 5 days a week - which is one of the many reasons why I have to walk! I really don't know why I didn't pursue a job as an aerobics teacher - so that I could have gotten my workout in at work! ;)
glad you have you here!

Well I hit the back button and lost everything I typed. Great job ding dong! :dizzy:
I am feeling like poo this morning -- as well as last night. So there has been no walking for me yet. Not a good way to start a new month. But I am going to slap my pedometer on sometime today and get some sort of walking in here at work. I usually have to do it in between my son napping -- he comes with me to work.
Cathy -- Way to go on those 4 miles already! Great job. I am not using the stroller yet as it's too cold outside still but as soon as this weather warms up you better believe I will be out walking, walking, walking!
Amy -- Great job on that mall walking! So good that you have a partner to walk with. I wish my husband would join me. I would be too tempted to shop more than walk at the mall.
Macon -- You should set reminders or get a timer to go off every so often then get up and walk. Every little bit helps.
Well I need to get back to eating breakfast -- blueberry oatmeal and coffee. :coffee: Yummo. Have a great day ladies! Walk, Walk, Walk!!!! :D

Hi y'all! Miles for last month were 134.5. I had gone up to 15,000 steps a day from Feb. 18th to 28th. The other days I did at least 10,000. This month, til the 13th, I'm wanting 12,000 steps a day. 15k took too long. I had no time left!
I want in those jeans that are too tight! I want to wear them at Easter! Send me more determination. I want to stick with my food and water goals. I almost never hit my water goals. Just not thirsty enough! :o
I have to go now, or I'd respond to each of you right now. But I am gonna be late! Hope to get on here later tho! Hugs to each of you. Have a great day and keep your focus. We can do this! :D
Bye for now!

134 miles??? WOW! How do you do it?
cathyxxx
03-02-2005, 03:23 PM
Sheritta - that's what I said girl! how does any woman get in 134.5 miles in 28 days! unless she is SUPERWOMAN or something! WOW!!!
Selina - did you say "send you more determination"? are you kidding me girl! there is no such thing as more determination than a woman who walked 134.5 miles last month! YOU ROCK!
and you might better share some of that determination with us!
I have forgotten - do you work a job where you are on your feet all day?
Have you figured out how many hours it took you to walk those 134.5 miles? just curious? if you walked a 15 minute mile wouldn't that be like almost 34 hours of walking????

Thanks for the welcome!
Cathy - I hear you about the aerobics instructor jobs. I do think sitting and driving (I do not live in a walking city) contributes to me problem.
Sherrita - Congrats on the 6 miles already!
Selina - that is fabulous! I have the same question - how are you getting all that in every day (esp. 15,000)? I think I could do that occasionally but EVERY DAY! That is great! Do you live in warm weather location? I hope you get in those jeans soon. Thanks for the inspriation!
Kendrea - I think that is great that you are getting any walking in with a 3 month old. I'm with you about the warmer weather. It does make it easier to get out and walk. Hopefully, spring is coming soon!
Amy - Great job on the mall walking. I wish I had a partner. My DH does a lot for me but I do not hink I can convenice him to go wlak at the mall. It does motivate me to window-shop while I walk though! :D
I started wearing my pedometer and have 2500 steps/3 miles so far today. I have to go to a meeting tonight so I will not be able to walk the dog but hopefully by the weekend, I will be increasing my steps!
Are you all just measuring when you "exercise" or do you wear a pedometer all day and add it up? I think I may try the latter just to make sure I am moving through out the day.

I get that in by pure non-stop going!!! I have two toddlers here all day, one Pre-schooler who goes half a day, two school age girls, K and 1st grade. About 16 loads of laundry a week, grocery shopping for seven people each week (shopping and carrying in all the bags, putting it all away takes time and steps too!), cook every day/evening (I'll pace around while watching the food cook) and wash all the dishes by hand bc I hate the way they turn out from the dishwasher (which doesn't add steps but is time consuming.. :( uggh! ). Lots of picking up what they drag out, over and over all day. Lots of chasing them (in fun and in seriousness :D ). I pace around them while helping them do homework, etc. I sweep sometimes 3 times a day bc of the food dropped when they all eat. (If I don't, it gets stomped into the carpet in the next room! :o ) I get up fairly early and go to bed later than I'd like. If I can't go out and walk outside, I walk in place while I watch TV or watch them play. I walk around my kitchen table while I'm folding.. fold, stack, grab, fold, stack.. while I go round and round. I'm sure it looks funny.. but I'm moving for an hour there at a time, then I walk at least an hour while watching TV at night.. and maybe another half hour during the day watching TV. I dance to my radio while they play.
I jog thru my house in a circle at night when they are asleep.. I start in the office, jog thru the toyroom (after it's picked up of course or I'd be dead now from falling on toys :dizzy: ), thru the foyer, thru the living room, through the dining room, thru the kitchen, back thru the office. On the mornings like Friday, Sat and Sun, when my husband is here.. I leave at 7am to take the two girls to school, then I go to the park and walk at least 45 mins to 2 hours to start the day. Then it all starts over! :D I've never had a "job" that was so active in my whole life!! If I can just keep high fat foods outta my mouth, I'll hit my goal just outta doing what I have to do and a little bit more. ;)
I log my steps on AOM (Americaonthemove.org). Started that in Feb. Did about 10,000 steps a day for the first two weeks, then went up to 15,000 steps a day for the last two weeks, trying to rev up my metabolism more. When I had a desk job, I couldn't have gotten in as many miles. But when I did manage a dual-physician office a few years ago, I stayed in the office for lunch, ate a can of soup and water, and walked 1.5 miles up and down the hallways. LOL. (Lost 30 lbs. that way for my high school reunion, but after the reunion was a blast, yep, gained it all back and more.. it sucks) So now since I kept having to walk an extra hour at night to hit my 15K a day, I am doing 12,000+ miles a day for the first two weeks this month. I'll see how that feels.
I think you have to get creative nowadays to get any physical activity in! It's sorta sad, we all wanted things to be easier, hence the creation of the automatic washing machine, cars, dishwashers, etc. But what has that done? It's made it where we have more time to do things that aren't as active. And we are paying for it now. Ah well, things'll change. :D

I'm excited this morning - Last week I upped my armour to 3 grains a day - 2 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon, bec we are mainly treating my symptoms and my hair is still failing out and a few things like that. I haven't lost any weight since Nov 20 when I finally got that dang scale down to 196 (13 lbs lost since treating my thyroid) and basically I've been fighting the same 2 lbs back and forth thru the holidays - and got it back down to the 196 the end of January (have you noticed it takes me forever to lose a pound) Well ......... this morning I got on the scale and it said 195!!!!!!! I have finally lost another pound - one solid pound - got on and off the scale several times just to make sure.
So that's 14 lbs down in a little over a year. Slow and steady wins the race - right?
I will fix my signature when I have a minute.
I am cleaning house today and it will take all day - that is for sure - so that's my exercise for today!
hope everyone has a great day!

Just wanted to say hello. I walked 2 hours this a.m., and it was sorta drizzling too. Now that is some determination for ya. LOL. I only get the chance to go to the track when my husband is home, two days a week or so, in the mornings. So a little rain wasn't gonna scare me off. :D I got in about 6 miles. So that was good. So far this month I have done what I wanted to.. at least 12,000 steps a day. It'll total less than last month, but that was just too much I believe. So this is still better than the recommended 10,000 a day.
You all are doing very well I see!! I love it! :cp: Keep it up!!
Sherri, ty. I do try to soak in the tub when I get the chance and I go alone sometimes to have coffee and browse books cuz I love bookstores! ;)
Kendrea, I love seeing your little one on here! How cute! Love that you're using your pedometer! Hope you had great fun with your girls too!
WTG, Cathy! You're on a roll! You'll surpass ur goal I bet! Yay on the 14 lbs. too! Also, I love Prevention. I just subscribed to it. I also got the Weight Watcher mag too! Love it.
Mel! I love that spring is almost here too! Yay! All the cute pastel outfits on racks now. Just teasing me bc I don't wanna buy anything bc they get loose in two months! I've set up my machine, and I'm actually sewing up my clothes this week. Just did two pairs of jeans. I'm gonna make these work til at least summer. I might get one new outfit per size but that will be it! Oh and I'm doing better with my water since now I ONLY drink water.. which isn't so fun but is better for me so hey, there are worse things that could happen to me. :o
Take care everyone and have a great week~ Hugs!

I just stumbled on this thread and I would love to join you.

Welcome Tasha - it's great to have ya here. I do some walking on a treadmill too. If I don't get in my walking in the mornings before work, then I go to a near by church gym during lunch and walk their track or on a treadmill.
Hey Macon - I tried to wear my pedometer on Saturday when I cleaned house for 6 hours. I figure I probably walk about 2 miles doing that, but I want to wear my pedometer to know for sure, but the dang thing gets in my way or catches or something and I end up just taking it off so I can clean like I need to. great to see ya!

Usually I attack it and read it cover to cover. I am intrigued about this walking article they have. Haven't heard of YOUR DIET mag. Will have to check it out.
Well I got in 2 miles yesterday at the Grapevine Mills Mall. Very proud of it. Then watched a movie. tee hee.
I think I gained a few pounds though from all that I ate during the weekend (pizza, shared a fudge brownie sundae-ugh!). Going to walk at lunch with a friend from work. Mel - 8 miles is great! Walking around a convention would certainly add up.
Amy - A movie is a great reward - what a good idea! What did you see? I am currently using a Sportline pedometer that I got a Target. They have a lot of price ranges - mine was maybe $35. It does steps, miles (or km), and calories (which I never use). I had one before that was from the Walking Company. That one was great and very accurate (I can not remember the brand). I occasionally test this one and it seems to be pretty accurate.
Kendrea - Congrats on the 4 miles!
Sherrita - you are so good about being consistent and you are already up to 10 miles!
Cathy - I have never even seen that magazine. I will look for it! I use to get so many mags that I would rarely read them so I have cut back. I do like prevention and it is small so I can take it places when I might have a few minutes to read.
Hoe is everyone else doing?
I got in my 10,000 steps yesterday and did 45 minutes of resistance training this morning. I just want it to get warm - where is spring?? It is so much easier when it is nice out!
Have a great day!

Heyyyy.. I show about 2110 per mile on mine. This one is more expensive.. I like the 7.00 Walmart ones just as well. This one had me measure out my stride and put that in too b4hand. I am doing 12,000 a day.. lately its been hard bc of all the cooking, washing dishes, and paperwork that u really can't walk doing. While things cook, I try to pace tho. So that said, I gotta go walk! I am gonna jog and watch TV after I walk around my kitchen table and fol 5 loads of clothes that are there! It's 5:35 pm and I am only at 4500 steps! I need 7500 more! This happens to me alot.. so I spend like two hours watching TV late at night while walking in place or whatever. I simply HAVE to stay on track.. I really want to be a size 14 this summer. :( I am sorry I can't say more now.. I'm swamped! Hugs to you all.. I'll write again soon.

Tasha - That is great that you got in a good walk after being sick. I hope you are feeling better!
Selina - Watching TV is a great way to get in those last extra steps! You do such a great job multi-tasking (walking while getting stuff done around the house!).
Amy - I have not seen that movie. I will have to check it out. I am a little behind on my movies - saw The Aviator and Wedding Date and that is it! You are more brave than I to get out in this weather! It was so windy (and cold) here today and I did not even walk the dog. I did go to the mall and walk though.
Kendrea - You are such an inspiration! I get so settled into my chair working on the computer sometimes and there is no reason not to get up and do laps every hour. You get in a lot while juggling your sons needs. Good for you!
As for accuracy on pedometers. They are pretty accurate but not percise. As selina said, you have to measure out your stride and enter that and obviously, your stride will change some. Selina may have a different opinion but I think jsut taking a few steps is where it is the most inaccurate. Like if you are vaccuming so you are moving but not with a purposeful stride. It is off there but in general, you will be in the ballpark. I have gone 8866 so far today and that is 4.2 miles. I will get to 10,000 tonight and let you know the total miles.
Sherrita - Great job on the 3 miles! Do you work out to tapes or just on the road? May I ask what you do that you commute to Indiana?
I am at 8866 but will get to 10,000 before bed tonight. I also did resistence training this morning and my arms were sore by this afternoon so tomorrow morning, I will probably have trouble getting out of bed. That's what I get for getting so out of shape!
Hope everyone else is well!

Hi everybody,
Well, I walked a bit longer on the treadmill than usual, I was liking the show on the tv. ;)
So far, I am at 3.3/20 March Miles. Not to shabby since I hate to exercise!!
I have a question about the pedometer thing for you guys. I have tried a few different "cheapy" brands. Do you think it is better to invest in a more expansive one to get the accuracy? The ones I tried just never seemed to work for me. I'm not sure if it because of the way I walk or what. Any suggestions??
Hope everyone has had a great day! Thanks for the warm welcome.
Macon
03-09-2005, 10:58 PM
In my opinon, there is not much difference. I have never gotten a really cheap one (usually around $30-40 I think) but if you think about the mechanics, you can see why there would be some inaccuracy in any brand. First, everyone's stride length is different so steps to miles would vary from person to person. The little ball jingling counts as a step so jumping up and down counts. Also, your stride varies all day long (which is why running when you have entered a walking stride doesn't work in terms of accuracy). I test mine throughout the day and as I mentioned before, I think when I am just taking a few steps is when it is the most inaccurate. I would like to try the kind you put on your shoe, has anyone tired this one? I also plan to get a new one from the Walking Company and will compare it to my Target one.
Maybe the key is to just feel like you are moving around or if you hit the treadmill x number of times a week?
I probably will not get in all my steps today. I am up to 8,000 but so tired. I did more resistance training this morning and it really wipes me out!

Hey ladies,
Sounds like you are all burnin' rubber this month! ;)
Macon... Good on ya for all that exercise! You're doing killer! :) Keep it up! How's the sugar/wheat free thing working for you? Is it difficult? How long have you been doing it for? Have you noticed any great results because of it? I really admire ppl who have that will-power! Me? Sweet-tooth gets the best of me.... CONSTANTLY! ;)
Tasha... You're off to a great start, girl... especially considering you weren't feeling well earlier on in the week! Way to go for walking more than you had expected on the TM! :)
Selina... Wow, you have a busy day! How do you do it, lady? :dizzy: And you constantly get 10k steps in! My goodness! I don't doubt for a second that you'll be in those size 14's by the summer! :)
Amy... Great working getting those miles in... and for continuing to do so even in breezy weather! Good on ya, girl! I'm also very happy to hear that your bf has been supportive in the process and has started joining you in your walks! That's FAB-U-LOUS! :)
Kendrea... You're doing wonderfully, girl... especially with a brand-new baby! I bet you can't wait for the weather to improve so you can get outdoors with him in the stroller, hey? Hopefully Spring will soon arrive!
Sherrita... Congrats on the 13 miles thus far! That's phenom! :) Keep it up! How'd your trip back to Indiana go? Did you get around to buying that pedometer yet?
Cathy... As always, well done! I really appreciate how consistent you are! And I'm so very happy for you that your down another pound! Fabulous, lady! Don't forget to update your signature, show off all those "smiley faces"! ;)
As for me, sleeping hasn't improved much in the last week and I'm really starting to feel drained. The morning is definitely the worst. Meh. Really going to focus on eating right and see if that helps any. :?:
The weather here has been amazing (hit 17C today)! And I'll be outdoors tomorrow racking up some miles... well, that's the plan anyway! :) Really hoping to be up to the low 20's in my March goal. So we'll see.
Nothing else to report. Just wanted to quickly touch base with all of you.
Please take care of yourselves, stay happy and healthy and have a great Thursday! :) Best wishes!

Hi everybody! I made it back to Indy yesterday. I didn't get my regular walking in, but I almost missed my connecting flight so I had to run...does that count?? lol I did get up early this morning and did 2 miles. I'm going to buy a pedometer today though. To answer your question Macon, I do the WATP. In San Salvador, there was really no place for me to really walk and I didn't feel comfortable walking around in my neighborhood there even though it's relatively safe. Here in Indiana though, once it warms up, I plan on walking outside more. I go back and forth between El Salvador and Indiana because my husband is salvaderno. I plan on moving permanently to El Salvador as soon as I get residency. Until then, I can only stay there 3 months at a time as a tourist. So, I come back to Indy and stay at my parents' and my boss usually gives me my job back if she has the hours. It's going to be great this time because I just recently became debt free....paid off all my credit cards and student loans! It took me 3 years to reach this goal and not every spending any money...now it's nice to know I can actually buy things I want. :)
Sorry, that was a little long winded, wasn't it? lol
Keep up the great work ladies!! :D

Looks like another beautiful day today, so DD and I'll be heading outdoors to get some walking in. Shooting for 4mi this afternoon. :) I'm so excited that the weather has been so killer in recent weeks! Spring has sprung! Woop woop!
Take care ladies, all the best for today! :)

Hi everyone,
Just doing a quick check in. I didn't walk at lunch today. Instead, today is my weigh in at WW. I was happy to see that I have a 4.4lb loss. Really made me feel good about my exercising. Keep on pushing me! :^:
Sherri - Very cool about going to El Salvador. How long have you been going back and forth?
Cathy - great job on getting up early in the morning. That is one thing I just haven't been able to do...way to tired.
Mel - I'm jealous that you have been able to get outside to walk. It snowed here this morning and then this evening did the little rain/snow mix. Yucky!
Do you usually walk at a park or just in your neighborhood?
Talk to ya later!
Macon
03-11-2005, 10:58 AM
Tasha - :bravo: on the 4.4 lb. loss! That is great!
Mel - :o I just feel off the wagon yesterday! I had been sugar-free (no refined sugar, honey, or art. sweetner) for almost a month. In all fairness, it is that time of the month for me and I think my blood sugar was so low - I had a P&J sandwich for lunch and then 2 cookies after dinner. I feel so guilty but it done so I am starting over today. As for wheat, I am just trying to avoid it because like sugar because once I have it, I want more and then I am eating all bread and no veggies. Enjoy the day with your DD!
Cathy - you are such an inspriation in your consistency. This morning, I was feeling so lazy (probably from all the sugar LOL!) but I knew if I did not do my resistance training in the am, I probably would not get it in today. Your dedication every morning really helps remind me!
Sherri - Congrats on getting debt-free! :) And how cool that you are moving to El Salvador. How long does it take? How did you meet your husband? Sorry to be nosy!
How is everyone else doing?
Yesterday I got in 11000 steps and resistance training and today, I have done my resistance training and now just need to get moving.
Have a great day!

ok - now I feel guilty! I woke up with a terrific headache (that has finally passed 5 hours later) so I did not get in any exercise this morning and won't have time the rest of the day!
but I plan to make up for it tomorrow by getting in 4 miles. :crossed:
but thank you for the very kind words & encouragement about me getting up early before work (usually).
Looks like everybody is doing great! :cheer: keep up the good work!
see ya'll tomorrow

Mornin' ladies! Hope you're all off to a stupendous day today! :)
Cathy... I'm sorry to hear you were feeling under the weather this a.m.! A 5hr headache is certainly reason enough to skip your morning walk... and there's no need to feel guilty for it! I sure hope you're feeling better now! Have a great day! And take good care of yourself! :)
Macon... I definitely hear you about the "need" for sugar during that T.O.M.! I become wickedly obsessed with sugar... hmmm, come to think of it... I'm always am wickedly obsessed with sugar. But I definitely applaud you for going a whole month w/out! WTG, girl! Truly amazing! And what's more, you're workin' out like mad! That's killer! You'll be at goal in NO time! :)
Tasha... Congrats on the 4.4 loss! That's phenom! :D I know what you mean about dropping lbs makes you want to push harder and further! I think we're all that way. You think to yourself "If I look this good at [blank] weight, just imagine how good I'll look another 5lbs (etc) lighter..."! Such great motivation! Anyway lady, keep up the fantastic work! You're on your way! :cp:
As for me, I didn't end up getting out for a walk yesterday, had too much to get done around the house. But it looks like today will be just as beautiful (we're sitting at 10C and it's just after 10am!) so I'll be taking DD for a stroll downtown. There's a fantastic walkway that winds around the lake, the scenery is so lovely it doesn't even seem like exercise. Wish all exercise felt that way! ;)
Anyways ladies, I have to get going, but I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Stay happy and healthy! Type you all later!

Hi everyone,
This is just a quick note to "check in". I'm sneaking this from work since I am going to a lacrosse game after work and out to eat. With the walking to the arena, in the arena and then out to eat, I should be able to count a little of that as exercise, right? ;)
I'm hoping to check in later tonight but if not, will for sure check in on Sat morning.
I did my abs class and walked on the treadmill today. So far I am at 5/20 March Miles. Lookie there, I'm 1/4 of the way to my goal. Rock on!!! I joined a challenge at the gym at work but I will have to tell you all about it later.
Have a great afternoon ladies!

Hi all. Sounds like you're all doing so well! Congratulations!
I got in 6 miles yesterday! That is the most I have gotten during one day in a long time. We went to Cleburne State Park and walked a rocky steep path. It was sooo hard but it was worth it! I'm so glad I did it. I hope to do it more often too. My legs are pretty sore today so I'm taking today off. Take care ladies. Keep up the good work! :D

Hi.. just checking in.. I did 12000+ each day from Mar. 1 to Mar. 14. Now I'm trying for 15000+ til the end of March. Trying to boost my metabolism bc I just can't tell if I might be on a plateau. I go up and down a little both ways in inches.. and I haven't weighed but will try to soon. I guess I'll have to give in and get myself a scale.
I'll hit the 15K today.. and I hope to keep my momentum up~ I walked 3 miles this a.m. to give me a good start. Can't wait to join the Y in April and really get into swimming and more weights, etc. I hope to get to 177 by the end of June. I am determined! :strong:
You all are doing great as well! Keep up the good work! It's worth it!! :cheer:
Oh and I'm definitely gonna try to hit my 199 by Easter. I really need to find a place to go weigh for free.. hmm.. any ideas??
Gotta run, will try to write again soon! :D

Well I got another 3mi in yesterday and felt good about it. I was really craving some fresh air and the 40mins outside did the trick! :)
Took my measurements yesterday and I'm down a total of 11.25 inches since I started at the end of November! VERY happy about that! I have another 3-4 inches to lose on my waist before I'm satisfied but with another 19lbs to lose, I'm sure that can be achieved. :)
As for the bunch of you, WTG! You're all doing wonderfully! I'm VERY impressed with your get-up-and-go attitudes! It's inspiring... and gets me all excited to come here each day!
Selina... Great work, girl! I'm sure you'll be in onderland by Easter! No doubt about it! You're doing killer! As for a place to weigh in for free, why don't you try out a few scales in a department store? The reason I said "a few" is because of inaccuracy. At least this way you'll have a good indication of what range you're in. Just a suggestion. :)
Cathy... Wow, 22 miles already! Phenom! Keep up the great work and you'll soon have another :) to add to your signature!
Sherrita... That's a crazy amt of steps you took, girl! Great work walking away those pounds! :) Keep up the amazing work!
Amy... 6mi is GREAT! Fantastic! Amazing, even! Way to go! :) You must be happy with that! :) No kidding your legs must be sore, mine are just thinking about walking that much in one stint! ;) You are well on your way, lady!
Tasha... Haven't heard from you in a few days, hope all is ok! :) Good job on already being 1/4 of the way to your monthly goal! Phenom! :) Keep up the great work!
Anyways ladies, I have to go check to see what DD has gotten herself into, but I hope you all have a HAPPY and HEALTHY day today! Take care of yourselves! VERY best wishes!

Hi all! Thanks Mel, the 6 miles was tough but I'm proud. I haven't done anything all week though. And I've gained back 5 pounds. Eating out too much. Ugh. Going to walk at the park tonight.
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! Hope ur wearing ur green!
I don't know what is wrong with me, I'm bummed out today. I am walking ALOT and doing other exercises every single day and I'm eating between 1200-1500 cals a day, making sure I get water in, and all that. I just feel like I'm at a plateau. My measurements are basically the same for a month. Makes no sense. Maybe I'm crazy.

HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY!!!
:p :p :p
Today marks the 5yr anniversary since DH and I met... so St. Patty's Day has pretty special meaning to us. Four days later we had our first date and well, we've been together ever since. :) I sure hope you girls are having just as nice a St. Patricks Day as we are!
Kinda went off plan as far as eating is concerned... that TOM always seems to do this to me. All sorts of weird cravings... sweet tooth often gets the best of me. :dizzy: I should be good again within a few days. At least I hope so.
Selina... Don't stress too much about the plateau. We all reach them. Unfortunately. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll move past it. I promise. I know it's not easy to stay focussed when you're not seeing any results in terms of numbers right now. But try to stay positive. Things will start moving again very soon. In the meantime, take care of yourself and remember, you're doing fabulously!
Amy... It's funny how we all struggle to lose weight but it's simple as can be to gain it back again. I hate that. Don't fret too much about the 5lbs, I have total confidence that you can lose it in no time! :) Hope you have a good walk in the park tonight! Is your bf joining you?
Sherrita... Great work, lady! Only 7.5mi left on your goal this month... good for you! You're doing killer! :)
Anyways, ladies, I must run. Just wanted to quickly post. I hope you all have a wonderful day... stay HAPPY and HEALTHY! Best wishes to all of you!

Selina, I'm sorry you're bummed girl. To be selfish, you have to snap out of it for our sakes. hahaha We look to you for our energetic happy feeling. :sunny: But seriously, I can understand why you're bummed. You've been working so hard. Your body probably hasn't caught up to you just yet. ;) Hang in there.
Thanks Mel. :) I know if I can just try harder I can do it. I've made very slow progress but I'm so much better off than I was a year ago. And I'm still down a whole size in my clothes so thats good. Nah, my BF was working last night but my best bud went with me. We did 2 miles and it was good! Hoping to go hiking another 6 miles this weekend with my BF. I think I have found my new favorite sport. :p Hope you all have a great weekend!

Wow - You all are doing great!
My computer crashed this week and had to go to the Dr. I never knew how life was without this thing - good and bad!
Sherrita - You rock! :encore: Only 5 more miles this month! I think it is safe to say you will surpass your goal this month at the rate you are walking!
Cathy - :cheer: Woohoo! 24.5 miles is great! All those mornings of walking is really adding up!
Mel - I hope you and your husband had a lovely 5 year meeting anniversary! I can relate to your TOM problem. I am the same way and have the same philosophy - just get through it and then you'll feel back to normal in a few days!
Selina - Sorry you are having a frustrating time especially when I am so impressed by how many steps you are taking every day! I think it is normal for your body to adjust and hit a plateau. I agree with every one else in that your body will catch up and all that walking will pay off! Also, while I do think walking is the best maybe instead of upping your steps every day to 15,000 - try something a little different. I think you said you were joining the Y in April but maybe try lifting a few light wieghts (can of soup) around the house. Just a thought. Try to be patient - all those steps will slim you down!
Amy - Way to go on the 6 miles hike! :bravo: I bet you were sore. Hiking is great exercise and sounds like BF is a great exercise buddy!
I hope everyone else is doing great!
Without my computer, I have been moving more - who knew I sat in front of this thing so much! The bad news is that I have to re-create a lot of lost documents so I now will be sitting here for days! Hopefully, the efforts of this past weeks diet and walking will not go away.
Have a great weekend!

Hi all! I got in another 6 mile hike on Saturday. It seemed somewhat easier this time but I was still sore and tired by the end. I actually bought some hiking boots this time which helped A LOT! I am a hiking fool! haha My BF and I are really enjoying this time together. We're even considering buying the yearly pass that is good at all Texas State parks and traveling to different parks. We got a little light rain on Saturday which made the rocks a little slippery but it was really refreshing. Hopefully we can keep this up and go every weekend, at least until summer hits and it starts to feel like 130 and mosquitos eat you alive. But we'll deal with that when it comes. haha Take care. Ty Mel! Can't wait to start losing again! :dizzy:
Hi Cathy! Love how you post so often. :)
Ty Sherri! I'll be glad when this is over! :?:
Hi Amy~ TY! I feel better already! :smug:
Ty Macon! I have Carpal Tunnel in both hands.. had surgery on one last year, which did not cure it. I plan for another one in June or so this year. Then the other hand next year. I managed a doctor's office for years and I think I'm paying for all that typing! Even though now, I think my hands do much much more! I had worked up from 2 lbs weights to 10 weights here at home every other day. I did a whole list of diff. exercises with them. My arms got so nice and toned. It really helped. Then my wrists were burning too much. Hadda stop. Which sucks. So now I am thinking, that the weight machines, like the butterfly, I can use mostly my arms, etc. Also, swimming this summer will help me. Also I am doing between 10k and 12k now. Stopped the 15 k. Just no time for it. Who can walk every single day for an extra 2 hours?? I have done it, but right now, I'm so busy with life, that it's not possible. So I think, well, at least I'm getting a full 10K. Right? :strong:

I'm new here and would like to join the Walkers. I probably will begin when the new month starts. I had a walking routine last fall and didn't notice any weight loss. I've gained weight over the winter and would like a healthy way to shed it. I've always enjoyed walking logging my miles is a great way to see what I've accomplished. Last fall, I walked about 25 minutes a day. If all I can fit into my day is 25 minutes of walking, is it even worth it? Also, can someone explain to me how the WATP videos work---meaning what exactly do they involve?
FrouFrou
03-29-2005, 04:16 PM
Hi and WELCOME Healthy4Life! I have to say YES!!! Of course 25 minutes a day walking is worth it! I think any amount of exercise is good even if it is 10 minutes a day. 25 minutes is good especially since there are those who can do a mile in about 7-12 mns. I am not one of those but have known others who have so yes 25 minutes a day is GREAT! The WATP videos are just walking in place with some arm exercises involved in some of them. I have the 2, 3 and 4 mile ones and when I get on a roll doing them I thoroughly enjoy doing them. It goes by so much faster than actually walking on the treadmill or outdoors. But I like to switch up my routine as I tend to get bored easily so I walk outdoors, on the treadmill and do the WATP tapes (not at the same time) when I am actually motivated to do any walking. I am hoping to get in a routine again slowly but am starting on April 1 to get on a schedule for sure. I am tired of farting around and getting nowhere so I've made a goal of 25 miles for the month of April.
Take care ladies and have a GREAT walking day!

HI I am new here.. and walking is my exercise choice! wheni made this journey previously.. my goal was to walk 5-10 miles per day .. now i am starting all over after back surgery and being lazy for a few years lol .. I am walking and counting steps..
i was reading thru the threads .. just wanted to mention a site i dont know if u have seen this or not its called america on the move.. u can record your steps or miles each day and walk across the united states or various other scenic trails.. you also get a certificate when u complete it!!!
kinda keeps u motivated to think u have walked across the US!!!
its americaonthemove.org
I've been MIA this week. It rained all day Saturday and easter was sunday so I didn't get in my 6 mile hike. Hope I can this weekend. I did get in 2 miles on Monday. Hoping for more tonight. Talk at you all later :D

Okay, so I was proud of the 3 miles I walked yesterday only to step on the scales today to see a gain of 1 pound!??! What's going on? I didn't eat "badly" yesterday. How often should I weigh? Is everyday weighing counter-productive? How frustrating!!

good morning gang!
I have had a really crazy week and haven't exercised (which I feel really bad about) but I did make myself get up early this morning and did a 45 minute 3 mile WATP dvd. :cp:
March Miles = 36
Hey Purple! it's good to see you here on the walking thread!
Hey Healthy4Life - I use to weigh every morning too, but I had to quit doing that. really once a week is good. (I know some people who only weigh once a month, but I could never do that - it would worry me to death). If you are going to get on the scale every morning then you have to realize that the scale is going to fluctuate from day to day for really no reason - other than the fact that we are women. You hang in there - just keep eating healthy, drinking that water and walking!
how did everyone do with their goals for March?
hope everyone has a blessed day!
hugs,
cathy

Great going, Sherri! Keep it up, girly!
Hope ur feeling better, Mel. :)
Hi Christi, Krista and Healthy! Nice to see you here.
I gotta get back on plan.. been going over on cals last few days.. but I'm still writing down every bite. And getting in my 10,000 steps most days.. missed a few, hit only 8,000 yesterday. I know the hotter days will make me thirstier, and watermelons will help me lose like last summer, so I'm excited. I can live on that stuff. I really want to hit my goal for this one. Ya'll gotta keep posting bc I get so many positive vibes from you all! :cheer:
Hi Amy, ty! I am doing better.. yep yep. :D
Hi Cathy and Purple!!!
Talk to you all soon, hope u all had a nice Easter. Hugs!!

Oh update.. went to hand doc. He thinks the carpal tunnel is fixed in the right hand. We are doing surgery in the left hand on June 22. He said the pain in the right one is tenosynovitis.. inflammation of the synovium basically. Like tendonitis. He said if rested it should heal.. Cha Right!! When can I rest it?? I told my husband that when he's off for two weeks when I have the surgery, that I'll be taking that chance to rest them both. Imma hate not doing anything. I hated it last time too, but it might work. It didn't work last time. And the doc doesn't know why it won't heal. Sucks tho. Worse part is he said I can't even do any arm or hand weights.. no machines, no velcro wrap around weights on my arms, nothing. I guess swimming might tone up my arms.. Ah well, life goes on. Thanks for listening to me ramble...

Oh, and truth is.. I'm not doing so well.. my sister made a rude comment about my weight.. she has before but this time for me it was different. I've lost nearly 70 pounds (68) and she still threw one at me.. and later admitted it's bc she has been gaining and I've been losing, and some ppl tell her she needs to lose.. but I don't care. She's had years of wearing bikinis and being tiny, I mean tiny. Size 1. Now she's an 8 or so. Ok, so it's hard for her.. but I've lived being very heavy since I was 5. I had stretchmarks at 8. (My family has skin that does not want to stretch at all, and I'm lucky enough to have been big. ) I've never even worn a one piece swimsuit without shorts over it, ever, in public. So just bc she is feeling bad about herself doesn't mean she needs to put it off on me. I told her she was rude and later she apologized (for the way I took the comment, not necessarily that she had said it), but I said I'd rather hear that you just won't do it again. (She used to be rude when we were younger, but had stopped as we got older. So it's weird...) Also, FYI, we have diff. dads, my mother married my dad 2 yrs after divorcing her dad. Our fathers families are like night and day. Mine being tall and/or heavy ppl, hers being short/petite ppl. Just my luck. Ah well, I'm over it. I told her if she does it again, in front of my son esp., that there would be a problem. I'm tired of letting stuff go. I'm working hard to get in shape. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all...
Ok, I'm off the soap box... anyone else have this problem? LOL.

Ok, sorry so many posts! Just a quick rundown of my revamped plan for now til Memorial Day.
up to 1400 cals
20-40 gms of fat
100 deep breaths
60 oz water
30 mins. dancing fast every other day. (my fave aerobic exercise)
10,000 steps every day
toning exercises every day, diff. ones each day for four days, then they start over.. keeps me from getting bored..LOL.
Joining the Y end of April. Yay! I have a feeling I'll lose a good amount from May to August just like last year.. can't wait.
Have you all already posted what you are doing this time around??
Hugs to u all!! :D

Thanks, Cathy. :) I am moving on and focusing on making a fitter, healthier me this year. So I need all the support I can get!!
And thanks everyone here!! I appreciate the great support you all give me. :)
I am zoning in on my next goal.. Onederland. 9lbs. to go! Tomorrow is DHs bday. We are going to Corpus Christie on the weekend of the 15th to celebrate. We love it there.
Ok, bigggggg announcement!!
I ORDERED A SCALE! YEP, A SCALE.
It's a regular Weight Watchers digital scale. Should be fine til I join the Y or whatever.
Can you believe it?? Well, I hadda get one bc I hate having to wait to weigh. I loved not having one here tho. I'm worried I'll be tempted to get on it too often then I'll be miserable from all the fluctuations. I am vowing to weigh Monday Mornings!! And then posting to help me keep on track. Anyone else in for that? Or are you all already doing this??
Oh and only two actual days in March did I not hit at least 10,000 steps. :D Yay! I actually went walking while I was out of town, up and down my Grandpa's farm road. It was great.. blackberry blossoms everywhere.. can't wait til the berries are ready.
I have gone over 10k steps a day on Apr 1 and 2. Trying for 10,000 a day from now on. When I go way over, ok.. good. But at least 10k a day. I am so sleepy now, going to bed.. have a great weekend. Hugs to you all!!! Bye!
