Which is better for SB - whole milk ricotta or part skim ricotta? Whole milk has more fat, but less carbs than part-skim.
South Beach Diet - RICOTTA - whole or part-skimView Full Version : RICOTTA - whole or part-skim ChinkyDragonfly 02-24-2005, 06:49 PM Which is better for SB - whole milk ricotta or part skim ricotta? Remember, this isn't a low-carb diet, it's a good-carb diet. :) Atkins encourages the use of the high-fat items because the carb count is lower, but we're SO not doing Atkins. ;) beach bum 02-25-2005, 12:08 PM CHINKY:) I usually use the part-skim cheese :cheese: ,as I have to watch my fat content.I agree with ELLIS. SB is a good carb & good fat Diet. Hugs :) BB 2ndChance 02-25-2005, 12:23 PM I have a question about ricotta.....are name brands any better that just the plain store brand???? I bought Kroger's and tried to make that almond dessert from PhaseI and it was very grainey and bad tasting......both hubby and I didn't like it! In fact, even Dixiedawg turned her nose up at .....and she eats EVERYTHING!!!!! ChinkyDragonfly 02-25-2005, 02:33 PM Thanks all for the info. As far as the Kroger's brand, I think I bought that last time and didn't have a problem with it. Perhaps, it's the batch you got? I try to get whatever's on sale so this week I got the Prigo brand. Get'n Serious 02-25-2005, 04:10 PM 2nd Chance...I find all ricotta's a bit grainy, but if you use a hand blender to make the ricotta creme's, it makes it really smooth and nice. Mix it with 2 tbl of ff cool whip and it's delish. The lemon rind one is my fave! 2ndChance 02-25-2005, 04:51 PM Thanks....I'll try that. ellis 02-26-2005, 09:08 AM I think we buy Saputo, which is pretty smooth. cottagebythesea 02-27-2005, 03:16 PM I've tried most all brands of ricotta, and I like Polly-O best. It's smoother and creamier than the others. wendyjo 03-01-2005, 03:47 PM Some are different than others, and I've even found that the same brand might be different sometimes. vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
