South Beach Diet - Fell off the beaten track

with my mom's death in October, dealing with the holidays and trying to teach a very behaviorally challenging group of kindergarten students, I have fallen off the beaten track. I have not gained much ( 5 pounds), but right now doing a total phase one would stress me more. Anyone do a modified version ( I plan on no more than using whole wheat bread)? How did It work out for you. I am hoping to do more total phase one type of days than days that I have bread or brown rice. Lets see how it goes. I do feel better with less refined sugar and white flour in my diet. I hope I can get back on track. Mornings is my down fall. I get so tired of eggs and cottage cheese. But I bought all the staples ( eggs, Turkey bacon. cottege cheese and turkey bologna) to help my morning temptations.

Welcome back, chilichick! It sounds like you've had a really rough time. If you are not having cravings then I wouldn't think you would need to go back to phase 1. Even a modified phase 2 is going to be healthier than you have been eating, so I think you plan makes perfect sense. There are lots of stuff you can have for breakfast other than eggs. In phase 2, I often take yogurt and mix in some Uncle Sams mixed with Kashi Go Lean. Your breakfast plans sound good too.

Hop back on the Beach Wagon and we'll let you have first pick of the cabana boys! Phase II sounds like it's what you should do for a bit and see how it goes.

Welcome back, Chili! It sounds like you are having a very tough time, girl! :grouphug: I'm so sorry! I subbed a couple of times for a kindergarten with one behaviorally challenged kiddo, and it totally wore me out! I can't imagine a K with a couple of them! :stress: I hope that you can find a way to make this work for you without extra stress.
For me, having those cravings would be more stressful than going through Phase 1. But that's me...and if you aren't having cravings, then why put yourself through it? I find that if I slip up by mistake (like my 3 bean salad bite at Ruby Tuesday's during Phase 1) and get some sugar in my diet, just eating Phase II for a couple days is enough to detox me. But if I've been all over the place for a while, I need Phase 1. That's just me. Do what works for you, okay, and post when you can...posting here really keeps me on the straight and narrow, and helps me when I fall. I hope we can do that for you, too. You'll be in my prayers, Chili! :grouphug:

Welcome back Chillichick. You can do this. I agree with you about Phase 1 - if it is too stressful to do it, then do a modified Phase 1 at which you know you will be successful. Don't set yourself up for failure with a program that just won't work for you right now.
I followed a modified Phase One the entire time that I was losing. If I moved to Phase 2, I gained weight. I added a fruit or starch every other day or so, but decided to add it, dependent on the weight that I was each morning. If I was up because I had eaten too much the day before, I cut the starch out, if I was down a few pounds, then I would add it.
Good luck.
