Way back when we had a thread where you told 5 interesting things about yourself and one of them was a big, fat lie! Then, after a while, you post which one was made up. Let's do it again, to loosen up around here. :D

1. I have met 3 cast members from the Real World.
2. I am part Cherokee/Choctaw.
3. I have dipped my feet in the Mediterranean Sea.
4. My GPA in high school so far (5/8 Semesters) is a 4.0
5. I love world music with Greek, Latino and Hindi being the top three.

Good luck!

Alright - this is fun! We just did this with our team at work to break the ice with some new employees coming on!

I bet Apryl's lie is #1.

Here's mine:

#1 - I used to do a lot of plus size modelling.
#2 - I speak English and French fluently.
#3 - I'm currently completing my Management Degree with a major in Marketing.
#4 - I auditioned for Canadian Idol and made it on the upcoming show.
#5 - I love Sarah Mclachlan - she is my absolute favorite singer EVER!

I think your #1 may be wishful thinking, Apryl ;)

While I have no doubt you have a lovely singing voice, Celina, I don't believe auditions have taken place in Calgary yet for the next Canadian Idol show :p

#1 - I ran into Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis, Laura Dern and Angelica Houston one year at the Toronto Film Festival.
#2 - I'm distantly related to a former Prime Minister.
#3 - My undergraduate degree is in Anthropology.
#4 - In a previous career I was a public relations representative for Taco Bell and McDonalds.

How long do we have to wait to find out which ones were the lies???

1. As part of my radio internship, I recorded, edited, and produced commercials that were run on-air for three different radio stations (that's right, as much as I dislike country music, my voice could be heard during a country station's commercial breaks).

2. I auditioned for American Idol in DC, but I didn't even make it through the preliminaries because I didn't have "the look" and wasn't interesting enough to be on tv [all that waiting in line and I didn't even get to meet Simon, Paula, and Randy!--FYI for any Idol fans that watched the auditions, Mary Roach (the one who heard voices in her head) is from the same town as me and is actually an aspiring comedian].

3. When I was little, I broke the growth plate in my ankle, so now one of my legs is slightly longer than the other.

4. When I was in high school, I failed miserably at my All State choir auditions but passed the All New England choir auditions with flying colors (go figure!).
5. I lived in Virginia Beach for all of last year and never once went swimming in the ocean.

tolose85
02-22-2005, 09:09 AM
1. I worked a pro-am tournament that Tiger woods golfed in
2. I met Clint Eastwoods make-up artist
3. I was 2 feet away from Pope John Paul II
4. I was on the turf of Mile High Staduim for a rally
5. I played the piano at the Hollywood Bowl

Wow, some REALLY interesting people post here...

Apryl - still think its #1 :D

Celina - you may be my idol, but not all of Canada's ;)

Howie - #5 I believe you quit school but were smart enough to go back and that you're smart enough never to have smoked :smug:
*jill* - #4 I think you passed ALL those choir tests! :encore:

Gretchen - #5 I've heard about your piano playing ...

Gayle - #5 I think you lived in Kentucky and went to school in Ohio every day, not the other way around

Sandi - #5 Unless your company has strange hiring practices :p

Frenchie - I can't believe anyone not loving living in downtown Montreal, so I'm going with #4 - unless you're the reason Jacques has fallen so far in the standings

Dawnyal - hmm...I believe you had the guts to streak :o but not to bungee jump more than once! so #4

Marge - I truly hope #1 is the lie :fr:

Togger - I'll say #3 because I bet your butt was blue in high school and not your hair! :dizzy:

Oh, and Frenchie, my dear, you need only cross over "the border" to Ontario to experience tacos made from low grade meat from a hose

Good idea, Howie. I just whipped up a spreadsheet with everyone's guesses so far, and I'll be happy to tally the winner when we're done. Let's give Wednesday for more people to post their 4/1. On Thursday + Friday we'll go back through and "highlight" our lies, that'll make things really easy, and more fun to go back and see what's TRUE about everyone! :) Then, hopefully we'll have a winner by Monday. :)

Anyone else who wants to post their truths/lie is more than welcome! I know there are a few more people out there that I'd like to see. :)

Okay, here are my guesses for everyone so far (starting with the earliest post and working my way to the most recent--just to help Apryl out with keeping track):

Apryl: #3...after reading that letter you wrote on the other thread, I certainly believe you've got a 4.0!
Celina: #4...not that I know anything about Canadian Idol, but I bet you would have made it if you did audition--you've got more of "the look" than I do!
Jill: #3...everything else sounds too crazy to make up :p
Howie: #5...that is my guess, although (not to offend anyone) you seem to have more personality than most computer programmers I have met ;)
Jillybean: Just kidding!!
Gretchen: #5...just knowing that 4 of those are true makes me realize how dull my life has been so far!
Gayle: #3
Sandi: #5
Frenchie: #5...for the reason stated in a previous post
Dawnyal: #2...I totally believe the Calculus--I had a rough time with Calc 1!
Marge: #3
Togger: #5
Kristi: #5
Donna: #3...although I currently have 6, so I guess it's not really so unbelievable!
Darla: #4...I believe #5 no doubt cuz I am the same way!
Sarah: #5
Beverly: #4

Alright, I think I got everybody, and I'm sure I got 99% of those wrong, but hey, that's half the fun! :D

Ooo, Ooo, I wanna play!! Here's mine:

1. I started smoking and drinking at age 12, yet Iíve never done either of them since Iíve legally been old enough to do so.
2. I ended my first year of high school algebra with a 4% overall for the class.
3. My sense of direction is so bad that I rely on my legally blind husband to get us where weíre going when Iím driving in a new area.
4. When I was a toddler my brother accidentally chopped the end of my finger off and I had to have it sewn back on.
5. I once won $30,000 in a Las Vegas slot machine just to gamble it all away in the very same night, ending up 20 bucks down!

Sounds good,

Here's mine:

1. I once worked as a shopping mall Santa Claus and they had to install me a fake belly so i can fit into the costume. I was 300 at that time

2. I once had a cat name after this high fat high cholesterol meal we have in canada "Poutine"

3. One of my good buddies was a member of Montreal Expos (now Washington Nationals)

4. I had to Show Jacques Villeneuve (formula one racer) how to start his vehicule.

5. I just love living downtown Montreal

Whell, it's now 12.29 am saturday, so i'll step in first. Some of you will be very surprised.

1. i did worked as Santa's in a shopping mall and yes the pants were way too large. They must have been made for people with 60 inches waist. They installed me a pillow to fill in the gap!

2. My very affectionate cat Poutine was named after this Quebec's traditionnal meal because he had the same brownish color;)

3. My good buddy Fred was indeed ticket office manager for the expos.:coach:

4. A few years ago, i was working as car jockey for a big shot hotel downtown Montreal. Jacques Villeneuve was staying there during the Grand Prix. He was sponsored by Honda at that time. At some point, Honda employees brought his promotional vehicle, a Honda S2000 that i had the privilege to park. When Villeneuve requested his car, i brought it up hotel entrance and stopped the engine as Villeneuve was not ready to take off. The HOnda S2000 had the following particularity. The start the engine, we had of course to turn on the ignition but also press a big red "start" button located on the lower left dashboard. Villeneuve didn't knew this and when he finally took his car, he was stuck in the middle of hotel entrance and i had to show him everything.:foot:

5. For those who saw my post on the profiles thread, you probably saw that i like "everything to get close to nature." The appartment i currently live in was my first one after i left parents home. I was a student at that time but wanted to get close to university. Now, i cannot wait to buy a nice country house....To much noise, pollution and stress in the city. That was the big lie....

Looks like I got everyone. I did quit school in the 10 grade. I went back for my GED and then my Associates Degree. I did smoke a pipe for awhile. Never did get hooked on smoking though. Food was always my addiction.

My lie was that I met Peter Breck. I did get to see him in a play but never met him.

Well, I'm batting zero so far :( Hopefully I'll do better with the women! :D

Here's mine:

#1 - I ran into Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis, Laura Dern and Angelica Houston one year at the Toronto Film Festival. TRUE - Brad was cute, but quite scruffy. Bruce was surprisingly short (Angelica towered over him) and Laura was sulking because she couldn't find Jeff Goldblum - I believe they were an item at the time and I heard later he was busy chatting up a waitress.
#2 - I'm distantly related to a former Prime Minister. TRUE - We even got a Christmas card one year, but the signature wasn't real - it was obviously a pre-inked stamp!
#3 - My undergraduate degree is in Anthropology. TRUE - Upon discovering few desirable career opportunities for female Indiana Jones types, I settled for the legal profession and now dig up caselaw instead of artifacts and remains. :p
#4 - In a previous career I was a public relations representative for Taco Bell and McDonalds. BIG FAT LIE - I see some of you recognized this was a reference to all my disparaging remarks here about those particular fast food outlets - I doubt I'd even get an interview in their public relations department!

jillybean720

1. As part of my radio internship, I recorded, edited, and produced commercials that were run on-air for three different radio stations (that's right, as much as I dislike country music, my voice could be heard during a country station's commercial breaks).--TRUE, and loved every minute of it! Wish I could get a job in radio promotions now...

2. I auditioned for American Idol in DC, but I didn't even make it through the preliminaries because I didn't have "the look" and wasn't interesting enough to be on tv [all that waiting in line and I didn't even get to meet Simon, Paula, and Randy!--FYI for any Idol fans that watched the auditions, Mary Roach (the one who heard voices in her head) is from the same town as me and is actually an aspiring comedian].--LIE, Mary Roach really is from Manassas, VA, though, and I read somewhere that she was either an aspiring comedian or actress...I never auditioned, though :p

1. I have resided and been employed on three continents.
2. I am a vegetarian.
3. I used to sing professionally.
4. I graduated from a culinary college.
5. I am fluent in Italian.

1. TRUE. When I was 19, I moved to Italy with a one-way ticket and $400 and never looked back! I ended up spending 3 years there (in two separate year and half spells) broken by a gig in Kashmir, in Northern India, where I was the General Manager of a lovely 11-suite hotel on an island in Srinagar, the region's summer capital. I am so fortunate to have been able to live there before things got as heated they grew to be. Later on, I moved to Ireland, where I worked in a hotel in County Cavan, not far from Dublin. And for continent #3 -- well, yeah, I've been living and working here in America as well! (Duh!) Over the years, I've visited a number of other countries, but these are the ones in which I've actually been forced to support myself. ;)

2. FALSE. Alright, alright, you got me, those of you who've recalled my posts in which the eating of grilled chicken was mentioned. But I was RAISED as a vegetarian. I ate meat for the first time when I was 13. I returned to vegetarianism after my teens, but had to return to carnivoreland after my GI system got messed up in India.

3. TRUE. I studied opera in my teens, sang (mostly unpaid) in a band in America, and then in Florence, Italy, made my living for a while singing ballads and torch songs in Italian bars and cafes.

4. TRUE. Yep, sure did! My degree was in Innkeeping Management, but the secondary emphasis was on cooking. I STILL remember how to debone a chicken with the skin intact, stuff it, and sew it back up and I can filet both a round and a flat fish like nobody's business! (I did truly struggle internally with all the meat/fish/poultry-related training though, given my upbringing.) I first got turned on to the pleasures of preparing great food in Italy, where I was taught so much by a Florentine grandmother who was only happy when she was cooking! (She was a pretty unpleasant woman in general -- but DAMN she could cook!) My daily cooking is Mediterranean-influenced to this day.

5. TRUE. I am fluent in Italian (and am conversant in Kashmiri, a dialect very close to Urdu.) I didn't speak a word of English for the first 9 months I lived in Florence. If I couldn't say it in Italian, I didn't say it. I wouldn't even spend time with people who spoke English, with my first self-taught phrase in Italian being, "Non ho tempo di parlare in Inglese," which means "I don't have time to speak in English." I was totally on my own there, with noone to send me money from home and no home to come back to, so I didn't have time to mess around! I needed to become fluent in order to get a decent job and survive there. And as my Italian improved, so did my employment!

It's fun reading about everybody!

Wow, Sarah, I loved reading about your life.

I figured anyone who's graduated from a culinary institute and lived in so many places would have a tough time being a vegetarian. ;)

Glynne, one of the things on my life to do list is to hike that trail. Lucky you!

Apryl, I had a feeling I guessed wrong on yours. Couldn't figure it out from the choices.

I love reading everybody's lists. I got so many wrong  Nancy Drew I am not.
