Default What's your "magic" number.

Howie made mention in his weigh-in of a couple of weights he's shooting for right now. I'm really getting close to one of mine--252. I'm not talking about some of the obvious milestones we all are working toward but more of those that are personal to you.

That is how much I weighed in 1996 at my yearly and I remember having the woman weigh me twice because I knew there was no way I was that heavy. I had always maintained between 220-230 for four-five years. Well I quit my standing all day job and took a sitting in front of the computer for 9 hours a day job and ballooned up 20 pounds in a matter of about 3 months. That number is really the beginning of my downfall.

A couple of others I'm looking forward to meeting on the way down is 236 (how much I weighed starting my sophomore year at college). 195 is what I weighed when I graduated high school and 175 is how much I weighed before starting my senior year of high school.

so what is your "magic" number?

I've had a few magic numbers and each has caused me to have a plateau...

330 was magic for me because it is the spot I kept hitting and not going below. My current weight is a magic number (and hey look I'm at a plateau) because it is how much I entered and left high school at. 260 is a magic number for me as well because not only is it the weight on my drivers license but it is also my lowest remembered weight which is when I lost some weight in high school. I also consider 199 a magic number because I want to be below 200 lbs.

Honestly 299 was my magic number and I'm not going to redo a number because I'm sure by the time I get to the end of the pregnancy I'll have passed that again and will need to work my way down again. My second number would be 275 because I haven't weighed that in over 7 years.

Mine is 289 lbs. I got down to 292 last summer then got off program and was up to 314 after the holidays. Getting down to 289 gives me a feeling of having a safety zone from ever going over 300 lbs again.

My second number is 240 lbs -- cause then it's only 100 lbs left to goal!

My magic number is 185. That is the weight I was at when I met my husband, Just before I gained 100lbs in less than a year.

I had several!

I started my current program at (gulp) 339. My first magic number was to lose 25 pounds.

Next was to get below 300.

Next, to get into a size 28, regardless of actual weight. I had worn that size for a number of years, and had a lot of size 28 clothes in my closet.

Next, below 250. Just a nice round number.

Next, 220. I had lost some weight during a break from college and had gotten down to 215 or so. When I started my current program I actually set my end goal at 220. I thought it was reasonable to think I might be able to reach that weight and maintain it. While it would still be overweight, it would be infinitely healthier than when I started.

When 220 was coming up and I was still going strong, I set a new goal for below 200. Again, just an obvious milestone.

Next, my new goal was 183. This is what I remember weighing in the 5th grade. It's the only weight I really remember from my childhood / teens.

I've passed that and am working on my new goal of 170. That would represent losing essentially half my body weight.

I THINK I have it in me to get to the top of my recommended weight range, which would be 163. I might try to even get to 159, just because it would be awsome to be below even 160. But, we'll see. At this stage I'm paying more attention to body fat than weight, anyway.

Mine were the following:

299- to get out of the 300's
260- how much I had weighed at 9 months pregnant
235- halfway there or -85 lbs. (based on original 150 lb. goal) and pre-preggo weight
220- 100 lbs. lost
199- onderland baby!
180- how much I weighed when I got married and my lowest adult weight.
160- half my starting body weight
150- original goal met on 10/29/03!

That was fun! Looks like we all seem to have some personal magic numbers.

Hmm interesting thread. Right now I'm pg. My dr has ok'ed not gaining. Last pg I started at 272, my highest weight. I lost my usual 20 lbs to morning sickness then had a gallbladder attack. I went on a very low fat diet and tracked. I never gained weight. After the birth I weighed 236. I hadn't weighed that in over 8 years. I ended up gaining 22 before getting pg again. I'll have to say 236 is a magic number to me. Hopefully I'll be below that after this one is born.

My next one will be 220. I remember weighing that and being able feel normal. I was overweight but I could jump on the trampoline without hurting my knees. I could buy clothes including bras at normal stores.

Mine would be:

199 ~ I think it would give me a big boost of encouragement to get to onederland.

184 ~ That is as low as I got back in the summer of 2000 when I really had my act together with this weight loss thing.

Beyond that I don't know yet. I was at 125 when I got married ~ everything between there and 180 is kind of a blurr ~ just kept creeping up over the years.

Wow, this is a great thread!

Here are my "magic" numbers.

#1-254, which is what I weighed on 11/15/04, before I took my break.
#2-248, I know it's really close to the other but I lost 61 lbs in 1992 and that as my lowest weight then.
#3-225, which would be the least I've weighed since 1985!
#4-195, what I weighed at the end of my senior year
#5-178, top of the height/weight scales for my height (5'11")
#6-no idea. I don't know that I'll ever be under 178. lol.

It was good to see that in writing!

Beverly and funniegirl, kind of took my breath away to read your countdowns, wow, congratulations. That's inspiring.

It feels good to move into the next 10 lbs every time, 280s to 270s, etc. It takes me a while to lose 10 lbs so each 10 feels like an accomplishment.

My BIG numbers would be:

--299 was a great feeling
--looking forward to 250, I plan on rewarding myself big time for this number, I guess it's kind of random, it would be about 70 lbs lost
--240 was about how much I weighed when I left college
--199 will be incredible, I can't imagine how that will feel
--170 will be either at or near the end of the road, wow!

Thanks for asking that question!

This is an interesting thread. I can think of so many moments in my life where I knew exactly what I weighed! My main focus this go around is that I just want to be healthy and keep the numbers like blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar in check. If they rise to unhealthy levels, then I'll set some magic numbers.

I will rejoice when I hit 199 again, it's been so long since I've seen that number. Then 170 which was my goal weight for TOPS. There is a photo of me somewhere at 147 lbs and boy do I look SKINNY!
