Any 30-somethings out there who need support and encouragement like I do?

Here are my stats: (I'm 5'2")
Starting weight: 164 1/4
Current weight: 152
On my way to: 125
I generally WI on Tuesday nights with a couple friends from work, so I will try to post after tonight's WI with my progress.
Would love to have some company here!

Hello,
I seem to be a rarity here as well :) I'm 30something and I WI on Mondays. There's 3 of us now on the Monday thread and now 2 here on 30 somethings.
I'm sure if we persevere and are witty (ooh, the pressure :) more people will join us.
I just started going to WW and I've had onw WI. My stats in kilos are:
I'll try and convert the kilos into pounds soonish.
Yesterday was not great points wise. I forgot my lunch at home so had to go and grab something and I ate chicken pasta. It was delicious but used way too much points. Then my husband called and said that our daughter will have to go to the emergency room to get some fluids into her. She's had this nasty tummy bug and yesterday she totally stopped even drinking water. It took us over 8 hours to get the fluids into her and the hospital canteen was already closed so my husband got us some burgers&fries. At that point I really didn't care as I was starving but I went way over my quota :( But I'll just have to be extra careful today and I'll try to pay back my used points over the weekend.
Not a very happy note but I promise to be more cheerful in my next note. scout's honor :)

Hi There!
I, too, was searching for a group to fit in to, but to be honest, I'm still only 29. My 30th birthday looms ever closer, however, so I figured I might as well join in on your thread (if you'll have me).:)
I just joined Weight Watchers on May 31st. It was a pretty big step for me. I've always tried to lose weight on my own and it's NEVER worked. I'm hoping that the plan will suit me and that being held accountable each week will be extra motivation.
I lost 7 pounds my first week. That's only remarkable until I tell you how much I started at. I can hardly bring myself to type it, but here it goes . . .
358.6 pounds.
Yup.
I was kinda horrified myself. However, I'm trying not to let the fact that I have 211 pounds to go discourage me. It is daunting to think that my weight loss journey will probably take a good two years, but I keep telling myself that that's nothing compared to how long I've spent being fat.
Anyway, I weigh in on Wednesday evenings, and this coming Wednesday is my third week. Hopefully I've done well, despite the fact that while cheering for my Sixers I can't help but crave snack chips and soda. I've resisted, though.
Let's get this group moving! There can't be only three 30-somethings in all of 3FC-dom:)

I am so mortified! The server kept telling me it was too busy to use right now, try again. Plus, I only got one "thank you for posting message" from 3FC. Yet, when I saw my post, it was there a horrifying 4 times! I apologize profusely for my repeated post--I'll try not to let it happen again, although I don't know why it happened in the first place:(
Regretfully,

Just thought I would drop a line into the 30's group. I like others of you didn't think that there were very many of us. I have been on the WW program for 7 weeks and have lost 14.8 pounds, with about 50 more to go. So far the plan has gone very well, and it is nice to know that you can have a few extra's and still lose weight. Moderation though. The thing for me is to make sure that I journal. I even got a palm pilot and have downloaded the shareware program for it and it works wonderfully. Even have all the food items and complete food list on it.
Is anyone interested in emailing on a regular basis about the highs and lows of the day? If so, please drop me a line at karolyn@connectionsgroup.com

Hi all!
I'm the same as Jill/Thalia........29, but rounding the corner to 30. LOL.....I think I'm probably more appropriate in this category!
I started WW 14 weeks ago. I've lost 25.4 lbs total. Jill, I feel your pain! I couldn't believe what I weighed either! I stepped on the scale and it said:
302.2!!!!!
Unbelievable. How did I get so big???
Well, I've now moved out of the 3's and into the 2's. I'm at 276.8. My first goal is 103 lbs. I weighed 195 in high school and looked great. When I'm done, I just want to weigh under 200 - so, I'll be happy with 199.
I have a lot of inspiration to lose, though. Here's what's going on: I swing and latin dance - a LOT. My dad has offered to rent a hall, get my favorite dj/band and invite every single person I know to celebrate my 30th birthday and (hopefully) 100 lb loss next February. I know he'd do it anyway, but this gives me a HUGE incentive to lose the weight. To be able to make a grand entrance into that room 100 lbs less.......well, it's inpiring. Plus, he said he'd give me $2000 to buy new clothes too. LOL!
So, that's where I'm at!
302.2/276.8/199
Good luck everyone!!!
P.S. I have pics on my website here: [URL=http://www.tauniasoderquist.com]

I am so happy to see this thread picking up some life! We had a slow beginning, but I think this is really picking up!
I started WW on April 3 and have lost 18 1/4 pounds so far. I think it has been pretty easy so far, although slower coming off than I would like, but that seems to be the way it goes. As long as the trend continues downward, I will be thrilled. My goal is to lose a total of 40 pounds by my birthday (9/28). I am just about half way, so I am pretty charged up by that.
Jill - Hi! have you tried Orville Redenbacher's 94% fat free microwave popcorn? It is only 2 points for the whole bag! That should get you through a Sixers game! ;)
Taunia, Karolyn, Hockeychic, Mayflower, Stlucia (Anna): Hello! Lets keep this thread active and our motivation intact!

Hello Ladies,
I, too, am glad to see this thread picking up. I agree with all of your comments - why does it seem there are threads for every age groups but ours. And to you ladies who are 29 (and on the brink of 30, WELCOME!).
Toad4mimi, thanks for starting this thread - I know I really appreciate it and I'm sure the other ladies do too! :D
Hey Taunia, I checked out your website - YOU LOOK FABULOUS GIRL! That party your dad's proposing for you birthday sounds great. Just be sure you don't put too much pressure on yourself to lose the weight - it could backfire. Remember, the weight didn't come on overnight (or even consistently) so don't be surprised if it doesn't come off that way.
Thalia, don't worry about posting multiples - I'm also new to this and frequently make mistakes (and sometimes ask stupid questions like "How do I put little pictures in my post?") duh! :dizzy:
Mayflower, glad to see you're enjoying success with your program. Instead of rewarding my self with food, I try to reward myself with "special" things like a new CD or a facial or a manicure. They're great rewards and they make me feel great - no guilt! :smug:
Anna, don't feel guilty about the points over on the day your daughter went to ER, those were extenuating circumstances. All you can do is start the next day fresh. I hope your daughter is feeling better - there's nothing worst than when our kids are sick! :(
By the way, your weight in pounds is as follows - 75.6 kg is 166 lbs and 74.1 kg is 163 lbs. In Canada we use kilos and pounds interchangeably - I'm accustomed to multiplying by 2.2! :D
Have I mentioned that I'm glad for this new thread - of course I'm also glad that I'm not the only one here with a significant amount of weight to lose. I know what you mean about stepping on the scale and realizing you've topped 300 - OH MY GOD!:o I joined WW the week before Easter and it has changed my life! I AM IN CONTROL!!! :D I've never been able to say that before! :o What a feeling!
It's good to hear from all of you and I hope you'll continue sharing! Good night ladies.

Wow, it's nice to see a 30's thread. I've looked here a few times and there were none to be found. I just happened to wander by, and what do you know...there's more of you out there! :)
I've been back to WW for 6 weeks and have lost a total of 5.8lbs. A little discouraging, but I'm sticking with it. I weigh in on Wednesday nights.
Nice to meet you all, and hope to see you posting!

Just checking in. I'm struggling with food tonight, so thought I'd keep my fingers busy on the computer instead of shoving food in my mouth.
I really have done very well all week. I have been low to mid-range on my points this whole week, didn't go over once. Then today arrived. . . . . What is it that triggers our brains to tell us to eat even when we know we shouldn't? I truly wasn't STARVING at all today, I just wanted to EAT EAT EAT EAT.
I hate to ramble, so I'll stop and just move on from here. I have regained control after a minor loss, so I'll just count the points and move on! (Thank goodness for banked points)
Monday and Tuesday I have to work our Little League's concession stand for four hours. I love those chili/cheese Fritos! I have managed to stay away from them up til now, and plan on doing the same tomorrow. I actually took my "Free Soup" last time I worked there and although I got some funny looks, I managed to steer clear of the naughty stuff. Wish me luck!
Ok, thanks for the opportunity to vent. I think I'll go to bed now -- I can't eat if I'm asleep! :p

Toad- do I feel your pain! All last week I was ravenous! All I wanted to do was eat too. Of course, PMS probably has something to do with that. LOL
Thanks to everyone for the welcome and compliments. I appreciate it! :)
I've been on WW for 15 weeks now, and I've gained weight twice....both times on a PMS week. The first time I gained 3 and then immediately lost it the next week. This past week, I gained 1 lb....which I'm pretty sure I've already lost.
The thing is, I don't beat myself up about it - you can't fight mother nature - BUT, it's so frustrating to have to go back and forward two weeks out of the month. I feel like those two weeks set me back from losing. There's really nothing I can do about it.....but at least the gain is getting smaller.
It's so funny how some weeks I can be so content with eating and never crave anything and other weeks want to eat anything in front of me!
Well, anyhow....just thought I'd drop a note hello! How's everyone else doing?
P.S. - I've seen little "bios/profiles" about the members on other boards. Have we done that in the 30's board? I could do a little template. I'd be interested in learning more about everyone posting!
Cheers,
Taunia :p

Hello, all. Hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was really nice, familiy wise, but food well...... It was my daughter's ninth birthday yesterday, and we had the kids party Friday night. (made a commitment to my sister that I would stay away from the chips and junk, and made it. one small piece of cake that I calculated the points for) Just went over on points a bit, but went for a long walk both saturday and Sunday. Quite proud of myself for doing as well as I did.
I know what you mean about the food during TOM. My really bad time is when I am ovulating. My body and/or mind thinks it is free time. Really have to fight with myself to make the best choices during that time. Some months work better than others. One thing that I keep telling myself (I think I read it on the 3FC site quite awhile ago) is the second bite tastes the same as the first bite. A lot of time that helps.
Anyway, must get back to work. Have a great day and chat with everyone soon.

Just thought I'd let everyone know that the FOOD DEMONS have decided to leave my home. Thank goodness!
Much better day today. . . Although . . .
I just had to go to the Doctor today due to my severe POISON IVY! I had to get the steroid shot and prescription to help it go away. Boy, have I been one itchy chic! The doc told me that I would probably put on a couple pounds this week due to the medicine, but it will come right back off when I finish the prescription. And Weigh In is tomorrow. . .:^:
Taunia -- love the idea about the bios. Why don't you start that, like you said. I would love to get to know more about everyone! So far, the only things I have shared is that I've been followed by the FOOD DEMON this week and the POISON IVY DEMON , too!
kikrs -- You are right . . . the second bite does taste the same! Those are now words to live by for me! Thanks!
Best of luck to all this week.

Hi there everyone!
I'm a new joiner (both to this site and to ww but not to the 30's). I started ww last Saturday and haven't been on a scale for about 3 years (since my son was born). I was appauled at the reading of 196.5. I knew I was overweight but had been hiding behind oversized t-shirts and pants - and avoiding the mirror for so long that I had no idea things had gotten this far out of hand. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to this new change of lifestyle and have big hopes to see a downward trend on the scale over the next weeks, months, whatever it takes.
Over the past 5 days I have banked 17 points but am afraid to use them on the foods I really love because I'm afraid it may trigger an eating frenzy that I won't be able to stop. Anyone else ever feel that way or do I need to spend some time on someones couch?
Anyhow folks, good luck, will check in in a few days to see what else is up.
Dinah

Welcome Dinah!
You will find lots of support around here. As for not using your banked points that's fine, but I find that if I deny myself all the time of my fav foods, that sets me up to go into an eating frenzy!
 If you don't have points left over for the day for that special treat then use a few of those banked points.:)
Good luck!
toad4mimi
06-21-2001, 06:16 PM
Welcome, Dinah.
I know how you feel about those banked points. I decided when I joined WW that I was not going to use my banked points at all for the first four weeks. I, like you, was afraid that an eating frenzy would ensue. Once I had gone four weeks and felt I had a grasp on the "points counting" and all of that, I allowed myself to use banked points on a favorite food.
During that "one awful week a month" I do not allow myself to use any banked points, and I also make myself stay at the lowest end of my points range. That said, it isn't easy and it hasn't always worked, but it is a strategy at least.
When I feel I am at my weakest, hunger-wise, is when I try to be the most stringent with myself. Kinda like allowing myself one bite will open the Food Floodgates!:^:
Best of luck to you! (And to all the 30 Somethings!):D
kikrs: Shared your "Second Bite Theory" at work with the girls I joined WW with. We now have it posted in our break room!
Taunia: Waiting for the Bios template. I think that would be really cool. Whenever you are ready, I'll follow suit!
Take care, Everyone.

Well, I had my weigh in last night and lo and behold, I was down 1.8 pounds. At best I thought that I would maintain. So that was a pleasant suprise.
Something that I have been doing is going to the local farm for produce on my way to WW and getting all my fruit and vegies for the week. That way even if I don't have a great weigh in, I can get right back on track, because I already have the produce, and I find the prices are still expensive, so I can't let bear to let it go to waste.
I had my daughter home today from school with a fever and cough. Kind of throws my day off ( I work from home), but that should get me used to all three being home next week for the summer. I find I am better when they are not home. IE- Tend to nibble more when I am getting afternoon snacks together for them. Bad time of the day anyway, and it seems like I don't always have the time to make the proper choices.
Anyway, will chat with you all soon.

Hi All!
Sorry I haven't replied since my original posting--I was suffering from post-Sixers letdown. I'm over it, though, and I'm so glad to see that this group is starting to take off. Thanks for the welcome and encouragement, especially you, Taunia. I can't wait for you to reach your goal and dance the night away. How can a 30th birthday be yuck if it's celebrated in such an incredible way:)
I weighed in last night. It's been a month since my first WW meeting and I've lost 13.2 pounds. I had a rude awakening last night when I finally realized that I was looking at more of a four-year journey than a two-year, but I'm trying to focus on everything but the thought of that final goal so far away. Sigh . . .
I don't know about you guys, but where I am it's been deathly hot and humid the last few days. At my size, I've always had a lot of trouble with the heat. This year, however, I'm finding it easier to cope. It's because of all the water I'm forcing myself to drink. See, it really does pay off, even if I can hear myself slosh when I walk:)
Well, gotta go grocery shop and fill the fridge with lots of healthy stuff. Yum. If I say it enough times, maybe I'll start to believe that I WANT the healthy stuff. Really. I'm serious. Honest . . .
The Bios idea is great--let's do it!

Name: Jill (User Name: Thalia)
Age: 29 (Turning 30 on 9/16)
Hometown: Wayne, PA
Occupation: Office Co-Ordinator, although I'm contemplating Grad School and looking for something actually pertaining to my degree (English Lit.)

Goal Weight: 135-140--who knows? I've never been even remotely thin as an adult, so I really have no idea where I'll feel most comfortable.
What's worked best for me: Not quite sure yet. Definitely water, but otherwise I haven't been able to establish a pattern yet. Week 1 I lost 7 pounds, Week 2 I lost 1.8, and Week 3 I lost 4.4. I did pretty much the same thing each week, but I haven't really sat down and studied my journals yet to try and figure out if there were subtle differences that ended up mattering significantly. I will say, however, that NOTHING goes into my mouth that doesn't get written down. NOTHING!
Ultimate Rewards: Actually being happy with my body, not being an object of public ridicule, and being able to shop for clothes anywhere I want. There are so many more, but those are the biggies.
Everyone's been quiet the last couple of days. Everybody doin' okay?
Enjoy the rest of your weekend,

Hi, All.
Just checking to see if there are any more Bios to read. My husband tells me all the time that I am going to make a great "Nosy Old Woman". I think that is because I am always checking for new posts, so someone better post some more so I can at least be validated!
Hello Jill, Taunia, and Dinah: Hope your week is going great.
Last week I had a great week (-4.5 pounds) although I feel like I am struggling this week, and also feeling that PMS bloating. Yuck. I am praying for maintaining this week. . . I don't even need a loss to feel successful this time around.
I usually have three weeks of loss followed by one week of gain (TOM, of course). I try to drink tons of water during that "one week", but not sure that it makes much difference. I have found, though, that over the last several weeks I am not craving chocolate quite as much. . . who would have ever thought that would happen! Anyone else finding this to be true?
My brother-in-law (Husband's brother) is getting married in 6 weeks to a size 0. We are not the best of friends and once she even told my other brother-in-law that I had a big booty. (Only she wasn't that polite). I can't tell you how great it feels to be going to their wedding already 23 pounds lighter than when I started this adventure! I hope to lose 7 more pounds at least by their wedding. I'm sure I'll be able to -- still very motivated to make it happen!
I find myself rambling again . . . Sorry, you guys, get me started on the little bride and I could go on for days!
Have a great week!

Hi! I am a 30-something in my 2nd week of weight watchers and hoping I can join your group.
I had a 2.8 loss in week 1 but this week has been pretty bad. I guess tha it is only Wednesday and I don't weigh until Monday so there is always time to get back on track. I have to take your tips on writing it down. When I am doing good I write it but when I slip - funny how I forget! I'll get the nack of it I hope.
A short bio:
Monica "Nica"

My start wt: 172.6
Last weight 169.8
WW 10% goal: 155.6

Hello Ladies,
I've been reading your bios (and posts). It's interesting to be able to get to know people without every really "knowing" them. I've been doing WW Winning Points for twelve weeks and so far, it's great. I've been losing weight quickly and consistently. I fully expect to hit a wall any day now! Anyone else feeling this way?
Here's my bio -

Welcome Luca, Nica, and Diane. It's a real treat to meet you.
Pam;
4.5? Awesome! Fabulous! Wonderful! Magnificent! I won't say what it was my first instinct to say about your future sister-in-law, because, well, she's your future sister-in-law. However, I'm really glad that you'll be feeling so much better about how you look when you go to the wedding. I'll be thinking of you!
I just had my weigh-in tonight. I lost another 3 pounds. That makes 16.2 in 4 weeks. I'm quite happy.
I also started exercising today, but I whined about that on a couple of other boards, so I won't here. Let's just say it wasn't pretty. If anyone has any suggestions for beginning exercises for REALLY out-of-shape people, I'm listening.
Taunia--I peeked in at your Musicians, Artists and Thespians Board--very entertaining. And I LOVED the picture you posted from the photo shoot that was only have your face with your hair hanging over your eye--very sexy! I'm so glad that you have such confidence in yourself already. When you reach your goal weight you will be a force to be reckoned with.
Hope everyone's doing great, and I'll talk to you all soon,
Jill

Aww, Jill....that's so sweet! Thank you. : )
I'm feeling pretty good today! I lost another 2 lbs last night- which seems to be the norm now- and I'm at a total of 28.4 lbs lost in 16 weeks. That's not a bad ratio at all!
Jill- I hear you. I hate excercizing, but alas, it is inevitable.
How is everyone else doing? Weigh-in results?

Hi, All.
Just checking in again.
Jill -- great job on the 3 pound loss! I know what you mean about exercise. What are you doing for exercise? I am a walker. I tend to not stick with anything else because I get discouraged. Walking never disappoints me. We have a lovely Riverfront Park here in Niles (where I live) and my little guys love to ride their bikes while I walk, which is nice. I would recommend doing something simple to start (like walking, for instance) so that you don't burn out before it becomes habit.
Taunia -- Great job! Two pounds is a great accomplishment!
Welcome Aboard Nica, Luca, and Diane in Ottawa!
Well, better get off the computer and get to bed. I kinda lose track of time when I'm putzing around on the 'puter!
Hope all of you have a great weekend!

Hi all, I figured it is time to do the bio thing. I had a really rough day yesterday. I wrote about it on another thread, and I think I know what was bugging me. This morning I have already walked 45 min and done a 20 min weight lifting video. That makes me feel good, and gives me some hope for the rest of the day.

Hey gals (and guys? any?)!
I am glad to see everyone is doing well!
I thought I'd post because of something that Karolyn said. (By the way - congrats! You're doing so well!)
She mentioned that one of the things that was working for her was not telling everyone. I laughed out loud when I read that because I am the exact opposite! (Note: not laughing at - laughing at how obnoxious I am about my weight loss)
I'm curious how everyone else deals with it? Let me just tell you that EVERYONE knows in my life. Every person I come in contactr with, I tell. LOL At work, I have a sign that hangs up every Thursday with my progress. It notes the total loss/gain for the week and the total progress. I work at a Symphony - and it's so great - everyone is so supportive! People come by every Thursday to take a look at the sign and see how I'm doing.
I think I did this because I was always pretty quiet whenever I tried anything before - and I figured that I really wanted to do it this time - and I had to get myself the biggest support system around. Turns out it works for me.....I've lost 28.4 lbs in 16 weeks on Weight Watchers.
AND.....I've only had a gain on that sign twice - both times PMS/bloated weeks and then the gain came off plus some the next week. : )
Anyhow- how is everyone else? Karolyn works better keeping to herself, I work better being obnoxious. Anyone else? :smug:

Hey All;
Thanks, Pam. I'm walking, doing some stretching, and some light weights.
Taunia;
2 Pounds? Great! Your poster sounds like something I'd do. I have told quite a few people that I'm on W.W., and it's nice that they're interested enough on Thursday's to ask how I did at weigh in. I also have a couple of friends that are also in W.W., so we support each other.
I'm completely boring tonight, so I'll sign off. Have a great weekend.

Ok, Taunia, we sound very similar. There isn't a single person that I know that doesn't know I'm doing WW. I am a very open person, so there isn't too much that my friends and work associates don't know about me at all. So, when I joined WW, it was totally natural for me to blab. Also, the way I look at it is (this works for me, but I know not for everyone) the more people I tell, the more I really have to stick with it so I am not embarrassed. I have had a lot of support; however, one woman that I work with at first was really critical. After I had lost 20 pounds and was still saying that I thought it was pretty easy, she ended up joining!
Journaling has been a big key for me, too. A couple days last week I didn't journal and I could really tell a difference. I haven't gone to WI for this week yet, but I know that it wasn't the stellar performance that I had the week before! I consider that a lesson learned!
Hope everyone has a great Fourth of July!
Only 5 weeks until THE WEDDING! I am going to make my goal of 135 by THE WEDDING if it KILLS ME! :s:

G'd Afternoon, Everyone!
It's so beautiful today that I can't bring myself to do anything but laze around enjoying the cool air and lovely breeze. I should be out walking, but I keep coming up with excuses. I'll do it later, I promise.
Dinah--4 pounds is terrific! Nice job.
Wildfire--Welcome Back.
Pam--6.5 pounds in 5 weeks? No sweat. You can do that, no problem.. I have confidence in you.
Anyone worried about pigging out on 4th of July? I'm working in the morning on Wednesday, but then I'm going to a picnic. The same picnic where last year the food was so astronomically delicious that I brought home doggy bag upon doggy bag to eat later. This year I'm bringing a healthy fruit tray, and I'm going to try REALLY hard to be "good".
Best of luck everyone.

Hi Everyone,
A tough week last week - time of the month and no regard to journaling. I guess my workouts paid off (it is the only thing I did right) and I registered a 1 pound loss. At least it wasn't a gain! I was soooo munchy last week plus work was a hassle and I am a stress eater by nature. I'll do better this week.
It's funny in the past I was always quiet about my weight loss attempts but this time I am much more open to telling people. I think that part of it is that before I guess I knew I would probably fail and now I am very determined...even at 1 pound a week.
Yesterday at the meeting most everyone had really high losses - close to 3 lbs or more - which didn't depress me but actually motivated me (another shocker). I daydreamed about what it will feel like to be in the 150's again. I really don't remember the last time I got on a scale and it wasn't in the upper 160's to 170's - I topped out at 182 ugh! The thought of getting on the scale and it saying 159 really motivated me.
Tomorrow will be a little hard. Picnic food is not all that good for you :) but I am always a bit self-conscious at neighborhood events becaue I am the largest woman there by far.
Good luck everyone! Have a great week!

Greetings!
Nica, you are SOOOOO right about public eating when you're overweight. God Forbid anyone look over at my plate and have any reason to think "Geez, what a pig" I refrained from picnics yesterday and made myself a nice OP dinner. I was actually stuffed.
Congrats to everyone who lost. I did not find another meeting to compensate for my cancelled one, so I'll be interested to see how I do over a two-week span.
Talk to you all soon, and have a great weekend!

Dinah -- Great job on the 4 pound loss!
Nica - for TOM and not journaling, I'd say a 1 pound loss is a HUGE success!!! Good for you! :D
Jill, Taunia and Karolyn: Hope you all had a great holiday.
Hello to Everyone!
For the Fourth of July, I starved myself and banked my entire days points for our cook out. I'm sure I still went over on my points, but not too awful. Didn't even attempt at totaling them with everyone's creative recipes. Anyway, the food was wonderful, but I felt terrible after eating it all. (Bloated, gassy :^: !!)
Tuesday wasn't much better for me. A friend from work and I drove to Indianapolis after work on Tuesday (3 hour drive) to see another friend who's little boy is in Riley's Childrens Hospital due to some major surgery that he had to have done. They expect to be there about 2 months, so we wanted to help the time go a bit faster for at least one evening. We ended up taking Laurie (friend with the sick child) out to dinner at TGIFridays. The three of us joined WW together in April, so with Laurie having a rough time, Lisa (other friend) and I decided that we would blow off WW for this one night and have a couple Ultimate Mudslides! :p
So, anyway . . . Today I was back OP with GUSTO!!! I am actually relieved to be back in the saddle because two days of not being OP has really reaked havoc on my stomach. Has this happened to anyone else? I feel sooooo much better not eating all that garbage, that now I want to stay on the straight and narrow. WOW, who would have ever thought that would happen to ME!
Tried on bathing suits the other day. . . OH MY! I know I have lost 23 pounds, but my butt has planned and pulled off a revolt against me that you wouldn't believe. Thank goodness I'm not where I was on April 3rd or I could have easily become suicidal! You can believe that I'll be exercising like a fool this week!
Well, I'm rambling yet again, so I guess I will close for now and check back in a day or two! Hope everyone does great and remember, FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!

Good evening ladies!
I've been lurking the past few days and reading some of your posts.
Funny that everyone reacted to what Karolyn wrote about keeping her weight loss efforts to herself - even though we may feel differently about it, it struck a chord for most of us. Personally, I chose not to tell anyone (except one best friend) about joining weight watchers until after I had lost 25 pounds. At that point, I was so excited I wanted to shout it from the rooftops. Of course now that all my friends and co-workers know, everyone asks for updates on Wednesday afternoons (I weigh in at an "at work" meeting wednesdays at noon). Usually, I'm excited to share my progress but everyone once in a while I get a little paranoid and start to think people are "keeping track" and for a fleeting moment I'm sorry I ever told anyone. Anyone else feel that way?
toad4mimi - I totally understand what you mean about junk food making you feel yucky!!! I used to eat poutine regularly - it's this French-Canadian thing where we take french fries, top them with a combination of cheese curds and/or shredded cheese and add gravy to melt the cheese. It's a gooey, greasy mess. Anyways, I used to eat this stuff regularly and now, just the thought of it makes my stomach turn - although I still crave it once in a while. I think I must by crazy!
:dizzy:
I don't know about you ladies but I think this whole WW thing is about control. The greatest reward for me has been the feeling of control over what I eat - how I "spend" my points, how I "earn" extra points, how I make-up for my little transgressions by cutting back or moving more on other days. Has anyone else noticed this?
Also, I'm having a really hard time with exercise. I get up at 6:00 a.m., get myself and my kids ready for the day. We leave the house around 7:00. I drop them off before work and we don't get home again until about 5:30 p.m. at which time I have to get busy making supper. Then we eat, they have their baths, hubby and I clean up, we put the kids to bed - usually around 8:00 or 8:30. By this time, I have absolutely no desire to exercise.
Does anyone else have this problem? How do you deal with it? :?:
I know that exercise will be a key factor in helping get and keep my weight down. I just can't seem to find the time or the energy to do it!! Please help!!! (Maybe I should be sending a copy of this post to Richard Simmons Ha! Ha!)
Anyways, I'm rambling so I'll just say good night now. Good night everyone. Hope you have a good Friday and an even better weekend!

Hi everyone! I've been reading all the messages in this forum and I'm glad I'm not the only 30 something wanting to lose weight. I had my first child this past March (13th - had a sweet little baby boy named Nicholas Daniel). I am pretty down on myself - it looks like I've been hit by a mack truck (esp. tummy) and hard to get a handle on my eating with the fatigue and nursing. Hope it is okay to join you folks. You seem like a great group. Assuming it is okay, here is my info.

Welcome Newmom2nick - Good for you for wanting to get to work on the weight so soon after the birth of your son. Mine turns 3 today and I only got serious about it last month :o . Be sure to follow a program that takes into account that you are a nursing mother.... you do have special nutritional needs right now.
Diane in Ottawa - I am also in Ottawa and find it difficult to find time to excercise... maybe we should chat - if we don't live too far away from each other we may be able to buddy up with a walking program or something. I'm in centretown. If you think its a plausible plan, give me a shout on my e-mail ericdina@netcom.ca
Everyone else - Keep up the amazing work! You are all so inspirational. Whenever I want to cheat (myself), I get online, read a few posts and immediately regain my resolve. Thanks all!
Later!

Thank you Dinah196! I am so glad I decided to join this group. My resolve grows with each message I read (whether directed towards me or not).
Sometimes the challenge of losing weight is a lonely and discouraging one, but with the support of this group and WW I know I can do it.
I don't know what the nursing plan/points are so if anyone knows, can they clue me in?
Also, if anyone has tried any tasty recipes lately, please share. I'm particularly interested in grilling so any marinades or seasoning suggestions for grilling vegies or fish/chicken would be super! After almost 9 years of marriage my husband (who never has liked vegetables) told me he loves them grilled! Good news for a WW gal!
Keep up the good work everyone!

Hi group,
I seem to hit my plateau. I weight myself every morning ( even though weight watchers says not to) I do not let it effect my eating during the day I just like to know how I am doing. I have lost 35.8 pounds in 14 weeks. I have 29.2 to go until goal weight. For the last 6 days I have been at the same weight. I increased my exercise yesterday. Any ideas to get beyond this plateau

Hi Tracey,
Almost 36 lbs. in 14 weeks is incredible - congratulations to you! You inspire me!
I know when I was OP before, the best remedy for some people was to - you are not going to believe this - increase your daily points just a couple points. For instance, if you are eating at the very bottom of your range, try eating more toward the middle or alternate days of eating at the bottom and middle of your range.
For some reason, this works for some folks. If your body thinks you are going into starvation mode, it will not let go of the fat and tries to store it.
Now, take this with a grain of salt because it is second hand - I never really tried it myself although I notice I lose more if I don't go too low.
You might give it a shot. Also, chances are if you wait it out a couple weeks while your body adjusts to your new weight you'll start to see some more progress.
All my best of luck to you. I am keeping my journal and drinking my water and so far this week (ha ha) I'm doing great!
Have a great week!
Lisa
210/210/136
P.S. One other thing that used to hang folks up (on a plateau) was not getting their "milk" in. For some reason the milk products help - could you maybe going too low on fat?
comteacher10
07-09-2001, 07:22 PM
i do tend to go low in my range i did get the max number a few times this week. i heard the same thing. Thank you I am just afraid to try it I am not hungry but dont want to train my body to crave more. I will try it. I get my milk in by eating milk products like fat free ice cream and milk in cereal.
If you feel like chatting I have aol, yahoo, and msn or email me at justone@midmaine.com

Hi Ladies,
My weigh in today was disappointing but not a huge surprise. Only .2. I guess I chart it as a loss after a very bad week (good until the 4th bad after that). I have got to figure out how to deal with my stress eating and sweet cravings. I can say no to everything but sweets. I completely lost it on Saturday with cookies but I guess I need to not deprive myself. I usually exercise daily, but for only 30 minutes. I didn't get a chance to do it last week because of work (stress). I also need to push myself harder. I do moderate at best.
I love reading everyones remarks and tips - it is really motivating. I am really trying hard to have a minimum of 1 lb. for next Monday but I would really love to see 2 lbs.
I saw Pam's weights (I think :) ) of 164.5 then 141.5!! I dream of that! Right now I am at 168.6 and even 164 seems like forever away, but to think that I could actually get down to 141.5 WOW!!
I have not been 141.5 in over 6 years. I weighed in for my 1st prenatal check, 8 weeks pregnant at 142! I literally dream about even getting into the 150's.
I wish I could stop sabotaging my efforts. What a learning experience this has been. I keep telling myself that maybe this time I will actually learn how to be for the rest of my life.
Have a great week everyone - any loss is a good one :)

Welcome New Friends!!!!
Lisa, congratulations on your new little boy! I happen to be very partial to boys, myself! Don't get me started on my two, or I'll never shut up! :D
Nica, you'll get there, just be patient and NEVER give up. When I am having a weak moment(s) I have a little mantra that I say to myself. If there are some chocolate chip cookies that my skinny little sister has just brought over for my kids and I REALLY REALLY REALLY want one, I tell myself: "I will not be defeated by this cookie." For some reason giving myself power over the problem is really empowering. Believe it or not, this mantra has actually helped me a number of times. When I feel like I'm going nowhere, like the last two weeks, I just remember where I was on April 3rd (164!) I have lost almost 23 pounds, so instead of quitting, I look ahead to three months from now. I wonder where I will be!?! Anyway, hang in there!
I could type all night, but have to go to a baseball game. Will check back again soon. Until then, I hope everyone stays happy and OP!;)

Hi Everyone!
I had my Weigh-In tonight and wanted to report my results. I lost another 7.4 pounds in the past two weeks. I was really pleased with myself and wanted to share my happiness with my new friends.
Nica, I know what you mean about sabotaging yourself. Always before I would come up with any little excuse to not stick to whatever diet I was on. Then I'd beat myself up and pretty much give up. We all know that cycle. Tracey's right, though. I don't feel particularly deprived on WW. Of course, I weigh a lot, so I'm still allowed more points than many of you. Not for long, though. Not for long:)
Nice work this week, Tracey.
Gotta go bask in my post-meeting euphoria. Aren't those kinds of weigh-ins great?
Have wonderful weekends everyone!

Thanks for the support you guys. I'll get it. I know that it will come off and that part of the learning I have to go through is the "process" of weight loss and habit change. Not just winging it. That is what prevented me from losing before and exactly why I came to WW this time so that I could have some structure.
One of the ladies at WW mentioned a mantra of sorts as well. She says it helps her get into a more rational state. When there is something offered that she wants (like your skinny sister's cookies:) ) She tells herself "There will always be cookies tomorrow." She said she would get a sense of almost urgency like if I don't take one now they might be gone. I have that same thign from time to time, especially when it is a treat that I normally don't have.
Sweets are what I crave endlessly. If anyone has tips I would appreciate it. I have had the WW2pt bars but they don't really satisfy me. I was told the Kudos granola bars are 2 pts. I am going to check those out at the store Saturday.
Welcome NewMom!! I'm partial to boys too:) !
I love this thread as well. It is so motivating to see if I follow the process I will suceed.
Thanks everyone - we can all do this together!!
Have a great Friday - Hooray:)

Sweets and ice cream is my favorite too. I crub those craving with fat free puddings (2 pts), fudgicles (1 points), and found these wonderful ice cream sandwiches called skinny cows (2 points) I found if I deprive myself of a little sweets than I am not truly changing my lifestyle.
My problem is I do concert security part time and I leave today for a 2 day concert. I will be working all weekend and unfortunately I will be around junk food and lots of drinking. I have tried to plan ahead I will let u know Sunday when I return how I managed.
Have a nice weekend all.

Just checking in. It's been pretty quiet in here the past few days. How'severyone doing?
Tracey--glad you stayed pretty-well on track while you were away. I read a lot about those Skinny Cows on various Boards. I'm going to have to take myself down to Trader Joe's and give em' a try.
I don't have anything actually fascinating to say, so I'll sign off. Talk to you all after Wednesday's meeting!

Must be a busy week for everyone. It is quiet.
Well, I did my Monday weigh in and lost .8. I talked with my WW leader after the meeting because this past week I really did everything right and thought that I should have noticed more of a change. She had some good suggestions about modifying when I eat my larger meal and mixing up when I exercise ( I am a devote a.m. exerciser.) It makes sense because I eat more and then don't move again until the next a.m.
My husband is finally coming around to the WW idea and I think he will be more responsive to meals. That will make it esier overall.
Tracey, fun job working concerts. I know what you mean though when there really aren't good choices around.
I don't remember who offered the 1 pt fudgcicle option but that is PERFECT for me. Thanks.

Hello everyone!
Here i sit with just a few minutes to spare before i have to shove off for work,so i'll make this quick.
I'm so glad to see that there is a 30-something board *too d@mn cool*... (even noticed some fellow canadians - excellent!!!!)
I've been on WW for 4 weeks (not the first time, but this is the LAST time) and have lost 5 pounds. Kind of discouraging, but, hey - better than going up, thats for sure.
I'm 32, single, no kidlets, and work for a packaging company on the order desk.
I find that my mornings and lunch are super,, but when i get home, whoooly mackeral... i go into autopilot, and raid the cupboards for something with fat content. This, i'm trying to break.
My wallet hasnt liked the meeting lately, so i have to cease in attending, however, i find a plethora of inspiration on this site. I am also hypothryroid, and hear that limiting your refined carbs is a better way to go. (still trying to figure it out, actually.. hehe..)
My short term goals are to lose in ten pound increments (so i can at least see some light at the end of the tunnel) and in the fall, i have to squish my fat a@@ into an airline seat, and i am determined to make it a comfortable flight.
I really hope that we can keep this thread going, and continue to offer the help and support that we all need during this journey.
Thanks for hearing me, and i will definately be participating in this thread!!!!

I weighed in last night because i have another show tonight. I lost .6 which is good considering my choices this weekend. I am inching closer to my goal weight. I have 23.8 pounds to go. This message board is such a wonderful way to exchange Ideas. I just want to thank everyone for the encouragement.

Way to go Tracey!! Bit by bit we get closer to goal.. me, however.. hehe.. i got ALOT of bits to lose before i get to goal. But there is NO way i'm giving up. This week hasnt been all that great, a birthday last night (indulged in a bit of carrot cake - TOTALLY blew the points outta the water) I weigh tomorrow night, so it will be a light day today.
I agree, its nice to see the support here. I hope all of us 30 somethings can keep this thread going. I know I will definately be here checking it out regularly.
Again, good for you Tracey!!!

Hello! Saw the 30-something's thread and felt the need to join in, especially after I saw a "hockeychick" and lots of Canadians are already here!!!
I joined WW in Jan of 2000, and lost 20 lbs in about 5 months, then kind of fell of the wagon. I have maintained the loss though (playing with 3-5 lbs since Oct of last year). I don't feel badly about staying the same for so long - it really just proved to me that I have learned healthy eating habits and I can maintain when I need to. Now, I just need to "kick it up a notch"! :D
I've still got about 25 lbs to get to my goal of being in the mid-120s. I've decided to take things 10 weeks at a time - I've got a 10 week cross-training plan that will allow me to add weight training and other activities into my exercise schedule. I'm a pretty structured person - so having a list of things to do each week that I can cross off helps me a bunch!
Here's my bio for anyone interested:
Name: Lucianne
Age: 33 (yikes!)
Hometown: St Pete, FL
Occupation: Product Manager
Status: single (BF of close to 4 yrs!)
Children: not yet!
Hobbies: ice hockey (yes, I play!), cooking, reading, learning golf (I'm just at the flog stage...)
Weight Loss Program: Weight Watchers
How long: not really counting
Start weight: 168
Now weight: 146
Goal weight: 120-125
What's worked the most for you: planning!!!! I've got to have my points, exercise, etc. all planned out - If I leave it up to the last minute, I end up eating something really out of control...
Ultimate reward when goal is reached: Being able to celebrate the accomplishment of losing weight, knowing that I enjoyed the journey, too. And shopping for a new wardrobe!
Well, gotta run - I've got a game in an hour!
I'm really looking forward to participating in this forum!

welcome to the group
I just needed to share my news all. I have been wearing shorts all summer and I knew the clothes were getting bigger since my weight loss but tonight I had to wear dress slacks for a show I am doing. I dug out my size 18 pants that fit ok on me well the practically fell off me. I guess before school start in September I will have to go shopping ( Yeah). I am guessing I might be down to 14 but I will wait until close to school I am hoping to buy size 10.

Wow! I have been gone for a while, and I come back to find this thread has taken on a life of its own!!! I am so happy!
Nice to have all of the new folks stopping by. Don't you just feel like we are all in this together? I know it helps me tons to know there are others out there struggling day-by-day like I am.
I haven't done much in the weight LOSS department lately. I've been milling around in the MAINTAINING department. Three weeks in a row I have maintained. Not that I am complaining (YES I AM!) but I've come to the point where I really need to see the scale go DOWN! I did increase my points this week so that I am not just at minimum. I know this is the problem. Also, haven't been eating any fat points. Added 2 points of pure, unadulterated fat points, too. Plus, just started the TOM so with maintaining this week, that will surely mean at least a two pound loss next week. It better! Talk about frustrated!
Since this thread has gotten so long, I am going to start 30 Somethings #2. Lets continue on with our conversations there!
