Question Question

How do I calculate how many calories I need per day for weight loss?
I'm 5'4 and 224lbs.
Any help is greatly appreciated

Suzanne,
Thanks, according to that I need to be eating 2074 calories a day in order to lose weight. I have seen several different website and they all tell me something different.For example one website said that I needed 1400 calories to lose weight I don't think that could be right. There is a big difference between 1400 and 2074.

Christina --

That calculator does not give you the number of calories you need to lose weight, it gives you the number of calories you need to MAINTAIN your current weight. It then recommends cutting that number by 500 through food reduction AND activity to reach a healthy calorie level for weight loss.

So, if it gives 2074, then you could eat 1822 combined with activity that will burn 250 extra calories per day. Assuming all else is normal, that would result in a very safe and sane 1 pound of weight loss per week, average.

It actually gave me 2574 as a maintain. 2074 is what I would need to lose weight. Am I every gonna get this right
