Welcome! This forum is for anyone who is pumped about weight lose and wants encouragement and to be encouraging to others. There is usually a regular group here but with holidays and all people still getting back in the groove. We talk about everything from exercise to cleaning the house, cooking to cats (or dogs for you dog people  ) Soooo pull up a chair and share with us! :gossip:
My name is Shawn. I live in Colorado, have two grown children, three grandchildern. I have been divorced for over a year (seperated much longer). I have two dogs, two cats (one that comes and goes :dunno: ). I have lots of hobbies and would love to be at home doing those all the time! :lol3: I love to eat! So here I am. :dizzy: I tried WW about two years ago...first on line. That wasn't the best for me. I went to my first meeting in about Feb. of last year and lost about 10 lbs. Stopped going. Gained it back and then some. Now I go every week! I started back the beginning of November and have lost 12 lbs. Not bad making through the holidays. ;) Let me say it was tough! But I am sticking with it! :D
So Welcome again! I hope you enjoy our on going thread of New Creations :) (Just in case you want to check our other threads we are numbered 1-4 as well to keep the threads shorter. We try to start new ones every Monday.) :thanks:

Wow, we are at #6. It seems strange not having all the regulars around right now. I have my fitness assessment in the morning. I don't need one of them to tell me I'm out of shape :^: I am glad that classes start Thursday, I am bored ot of my mind :dizzy: Talking about ice cream...I have become addicted to WW cookies-n-cream ice cream and at 2 points why shouldn't I be?

Have a good night all.

Hi everyone,
I am sorry I have been missing. I have had a very busy week. On Thursday I went to work and had an accident with the slicer. Had to make a hospital trip that night and have not been able to use my pointer finger since. Then we went to Conn on Saturday morning and didn't get home till Sunday night at 2 in the morning. Anyway, with my finger being hurt I was eating terrible from Friday on and ended up gaining 1 pound at weigh in. It is only the second time since I started WW that I have had a gain, so I think I have the ambition to make sure that I lose at least 2 pounds this week. Exersizeing is not really an option right now since it will make my finger throba nd that would hurt alot so I just have to really be carefull not to eat anything bad this week. ANyway, I just wanted to pop in and let you all know that I am still here. I hope you are all doing well. I will type again soon.

Hey all.

Wonderful losses this week it seems! Hooray to all who have lost.

I have something to say about flex points and I hope no one thinks I'm overstepping bounds here.

It drives me nuts to have people upset that they've used their flexies. The whole POINT (if you'll forgive the pun) is that they are meant to be used. They are there for a purpose. If you get into the mindset that they are bad, you'll eventually have a problem as you go down in target points since they're there to bolster you.

Think of how "naturally" thin people eat. They may have a day or two where they eat everything in the house and then the rest of the week they just graze on bits n pieces here and there. This is the same concept as flex points but in a reality situation.

If you think you're eating too many flex points, take a look at your journal and see just WHERE you're using them. Are you using them mindlessly? I mean, are you going out to eat, grabbing a double whopper with extra cheese and mayo and then thinking "oh boy, I just used my flex points"? or are you using them to supplement your regular eating? Or for celebrations or to hit your favorite restaurant once a week or so?

If it's the latter then you have flexies down pat! This is what they're there for, their whole raison d'être if you will.

But if you're not using them mindfully, with purpose, then stop. Look at your journal. See where you're using them and then modify that behavior.

But the thing to take away from this is:

Flexies are your friends. They are there for you when you need a point or two to have an extra slice of your mom's delish meatloaf. Or when your best friend is having a birthday celebration and you want a piece of cake AND a cosmopolitan. Or even just when you know Aunt Flo is going to make her monthly visit with cousin TOM and you must HAVE THAT DANG CHOCOLATE BAR DAMN THE TORPEDOS FULL STEAM AHEAD! Flexies are good. Eating your flexies can actually AID in weight loss. It's true. Remember, your body needs fuel to work.

Anyway, it's just my $.02 and observations from being OP for 80 bazillion years.

Huggles n stuff!

Hi everyone! I am not feeling very well today. That cold I was fighting is starting to win! :( But I am staying home and sleeping lots today. :) That is the best part about being sick....having an excuse to sleep and not feel guilty. :D Even though I still feel some guilt...I don't really feel that bad but don't want to get worse. So I will take care of myself today and hope to feel much better tomorrow. :)
I'm glad to see Lori back! Sorry to hear about your finger. :yikes: Hope it heals quickly. I wouldn't worry about a pound! That is cool! Yes, I gained those 2.6 during Christmas :eating2: But lost them this last week after staying the same. So...it is right back to sticking with the plan! I knowit works! We just have to make it a life style change.
Hey I went to Applebee's the other night...had the tilapia.....very good! And filling! :T But yesterday I went to Chipotle's ....Wonderfully good but OOOOOOOOhhhhhhhhhh the points! I didn't even count it. Maybe I will later and see what it adds up to. They have it listed in the WW site. I'll let you know. But other that a little cream of wheat or oatmeal that's all I had yesterday. And then Popcorn at night. I love :corn: !
Ok. Well, It sure is nice to talk to you all but I should get to sleep for a while. I'll be back later!

Yes Kae is right! That is what the flex points are there for. Believe me you will still lose the weight even if you use them. :D

Hello,

I hope all of you are well and getting in your water.. I’m a little behind right now but by the end of the day I should be on track.
Shawn- I’m sorry to hear your not feeling good. :(
I have lost 2 points per day now and I’m glad. I found it really hard getting in all the points. I felt like I was eating all the time.
On a personal note: I had to by some undies in a smaller size Whoohoo! :cb: I just hope I don’t lose that much up top. I’m satisfied with the size of my twins :^:
I had my assessment this morning and boy, am I out of shape  They have a lot of good cardio machines. They also have a circuit system. You start on one machine and every 30 minutes you switch to the next and so on. It take about 18 minutes to complete the whole system and it uses about every muscle and I have to do that at least once every visit. I have to go 36 times and min. of 40 minutes in order to get an A. I have a feeling I will be getting an A+ :D Bring it on…. I’m ready for it :sumo:
Ok gang here is my plan. I just bought a pedometer and I’m going to put it to use. I looked up the miles from my house to Graceland. It takes about 531 miles to get to the home of Elvis and I’m going to walk it. I got this idea from another message board. Every week I’ll keep a tally of the miles I walked that week and I’m going to see how long it takes me. If any of you are interested and have a pedometer.. join me as I trek across America.

Type @ ya later… :comp:

guerita765
01-18-2005, 05:21 PM
Christina, That sounds great! Is the workout thing for school? I am guessing you use the machines for 30 seconds each if it takes 18 minutes to do a circut? is that right? :?: Anyway, where did you get your pedometer? I got a cheapy one but it doesn't work right. I would like to get one that is good and accurate.
That is a good question..[If we were going to "walk" someplace where would we like to "walk" to? Hummmmmmmmm. Let me think about it. Ok it can't be to our most favorite ice cream store either. Has to be someplace substancial.
That is so cool that you got to buy new undies in a smaller size! :bravo: :cp: I can hardly wait do buy smaller clothes! And L and I are in agreement with the not lossing too much on top! ;) Don't want that. No I haven't been good on my water. I wonder why I have such trouble with that? I guess I feel like I am drinking all the time! But then it is only 48 oz right? I think I asked about that on another post and didn't get a response. But it is 6x8 right? Anyway, I will work on that.
I am feeling much better. Working on my puzzle. Just wanted to stop and say hi! So now I think I will go have an orange and work on the puzzle some more. Take care and Congratulations :bravo: to those who lost or stayed the same and to those who gained an lb or two....no worries...[B]YOU CAN DO IT And THERE IS A NEW START NOW!

Christalynn
01-18-2005, 06:20 PM
Shawn- The circut system is for a Lifetime Fitness class that is a requirement for my EE degree. You are right on the calculations. 30 minutes on 24 machines is 18 minutes. My pedometer is a cheapy but I think it is pretty accurate. I bought it for under 4 bucks at WalMart Neighborhood Market. Once I can afford a better one..I'll switch. Other than going international the only other place I can think of is New Orleans. I just picked someplace I knew and always wanted to see..even if it is only in my imagination :^: and it reminds me of a Stray Cats song. Yes, you should have between 6 and 8..8oz of water a day. I've been told that the more you drink the better results and it has been proven in my case.

Good morning to you all! I'm new to W.W. and so far, it's hard but I'm sure it will be worth it! I feel like the Goodyear Blimp right about now. I brought plenty of veggies to snack on today. I also brought my tennis shoes, so I can walk at lunch. I absolutly hate working out, and I can't afford a gym membership. Do any of you have any suggestions how I can get some light cardio and weight bearing exercise in w/ out killing myself? It's been two years since I've worked out, and I want to take it slowly.

I'm super excited about W.W. I know I can do this with some dicipline, which is not my strong point. Thank God for the meetings! At the meeting Satruday (my first) the leader got on my last nerve in the beginning. By the end, I thought she was the coolest!

I hope to get to know you all better soon! :D

Welcome Catgirl67.

This is a grat place to come for anything you need. We talk abotu anything and everything. I'm sorry I don't have any suggfestions on the exercise but I'm sure one of the other ladies can help you.

I know how important it is to have a good leader. I was on WW a few years ago and I really conected with my leader because she was around my age. She just graduated college and was planning on marriage. Because of the demands of the new job she couldn't stay as a leader. I never could get used to the leaders that brought in and "tested" out so I quit. The next leader I encounterd really freaked me out so that WW experience was short lived.
I am now completely satisfied with my leader now and I think that is one of the reasons I'm so successful.

Gotta go get ready for classes to start tomorrow. I'll check in later.

Welcome Catgurl and Mom, You will find this a great place to keep yourself accountable, and get motivation. I know I do.

Well, ladies, this is just not my week again. Not only is my finger still all bandaged up but I now have broncittus (not sure about spelling).
So, I am just not having a good time. :(

I do have to add that you do have to like your leader. It is a great plus to your weight loss. I LOVE my leader. So is such a great motivater.

Well, time to get back under the covers since I think I am also getting a fever and can't for the life of me warm up. I will talk to you all soon.

Have a healthy day.

Umma,
I hope you feel better! I've had the crud since before Christmas, and am finally feeling better. I didn't take care of myself, so, don't make that mistake! Honey and lemon make a great tea. A little fresh ginger mixed in will help too.

Feel better soon! :)

Her birthday isn't until Sunday but I'm fixing it early for her so we can eat it at the first of the week in case we mess up we can work hard to get it off. I guess I had better go I'm watching the cake making sure it don't burn I've never made it before. :) I will talk to yo all later!

Hello, I am new here...I have really enjoyed reading some of the posts. I've gotten alot of pointers as I follow W.W. Done real good so far....5 pounds since Jan 1st. :cheer: This is my first post...so I might need some help navigating this thing! :?: Anyway, I don't have alot of wt to lose, just need to get in shape (tighten up the rear so it doesn't draggggggggg) :joker: Question-does anyone have any pointers abt getting around these sweet cravings I get ALOT?! I drink plenty of water and eat fruit, but it just isn't the same as say ice cream or Chocolate!!! :cookie: Thanks.

Welcome! I'm new here too, well new to W.W. anyway. My meeting leader told me that if you really want a cookie, don't torture yourself. Eat one, two max, then do some activity to burn it off. Fat free pudding is also really good! I haven't bought any of the W.W. snack products yet, but the twists are supposed to be good. You may want to look into the smoothies or their other sweet snacks.

One or two cookies can't be too many points. If you really have to have one, go for it. Just make up for it at dinner by cutting back on something or walking after dinner. :)

Helllllloo! And Welcome!! :D I'm Shawn and if you had a chance to read the first of the post for New Creations #6 you will see I talked about myself ( I guess it's my favorite subject :joker: :lol3: ) After a while you will get use to my looooooooong posts and probably just skip through them. :blah:
Anyway, I don't really have any suggestions about working out because I am like you Catgirlin that I don't like to work out. I always say I am going to try but I never really do. There are some good dvd's that I have heard about...lots of the ladies here use Walking Off The Pounds. If you get the dvd from Weight Watchers (it is free) it looks pretty good and more like a dance than working out. Weights, I can suggest getting some small hand weights or use two full cans (the same size for each hand) and get some exercises from your leader. How is that for a no- work outer? Is that even a word? LOL
Welcome to you too Merideth! I hope you find us encouraging and fun!
I sure hope you are feeling better Lori! :( You are having a bad month, aren't you? I will be thinking of you and praying for you too!
Christina, Yeah I know what you mean about the walking part. It would be fun to have a goal even if it is imaginary. I think New Orleans is a good one! I went one time (not during Mardi Gra) and loved it! :) I love to shop and that is what I did! Besides eat! :eating2: :hun: :hat: :T I love Red Beans and Rice and Smoked Sausage! Also Muffelettas (sp) and those little powdered pastries! Won't even try to spell that one. :)
I am still thinking of where I would like to walk to. Right now I guess it would be to Milwaukee, WI to see my daughter. :D I miss her terribly!
So let me think some more and I'll get back to you.
What do you think about a question per week? Sort of cool and we can get to know each other better! :D
Ok enough of that! :write: :blah: :comp: I had better go. :balloons: Be back later to check in!

Welcome Slimming. I know you'll enjoy yourself around here

Shawn- I like the idea of a question per week as long as its not that deep. With school starting I don't want to think anymore than I have to
While on the subject of school, I hope I'm not the oldest one in my classes again this semester :^: enough of food talk you're making me hungry :hun:
Jennh-blueberry upside down cake sounds yummy. How did it turn out. Don't think that much on you gain. Just focus on what you want and you'll have that 3.8 loss.

I agree with catgirl. I crave hot chocolate and when that happens I have some because I know if I don't..I will go overboard. As long as you're in control with it. I don't see it hurting that bad.

Anyways..I'll talk to you all tomorrow.

 Hi Slimming! Welcome! :D :ziplip: Sorry about all the food references. I just got carried away. :p :^:
Christina is right Jen, Don't worry about the gain. I know it is hard, especially when you try and it gets tough. Tomorrow is another day. :) Just remember you aren't in it alone. Besides your family and friends at home, you have us! :D And we want you to succeed! And yes the Blueberry Upsidedown cake sounds good. Let us know how it turns out, please. :^:
Ok, I'm turning in for the night. Have work early tomorrow so I won't be on until evening. :(

Hiya,

I hope everyone is doing good today :)
I started my fitness class today. I was so pooped when I got done :tired:
It is a awesome circut system other than the steppers..they are not my friend  they have every machine you can think of. I am really looking forward to my workouts now but I'll never admit that in public :p . Other than the schedualed times, I'm gonna go before I weigh in @ WW. I think I walked close to 2 miles today because parking was horrible but I enjoyed the walk.
I have a feeling that this is going to be a hard semester :( but I'm still shooting for A's

Goin to get some :corn: I'll check in later

Hello ladies! I just stopped in to check in. Gotta get to bed. Early day tomorrow.
I think doing whatever you are comfortable with is the best. I know I haven't done much either because I want to lose more weight first. Walking is the best ever though. :tread: I have made a committment to my friend and she and I are going to work out at least two days next week. Monday and Wednesday for sure and we will bring our stuff so we can work out other days
if we choose. :workout:
Well, I just wanted to say HI! I had better get to bed. Jenn too bad you couldn't send us some cake! Maybe the recipe? :^:

Hi everyone,
Just checking in before I have to drive my son to school. Then when I get back home I am going to lay on the couch with a comfy pillow and blanket and stay there. Well, as long as my daughter will let me. I still feel like crap. Medicine should start working soon though. I can't do any workouts right now because when I start to get out of breath I start coughing like crazy and that is hurting my throat. I know, it sounds like a pity party, right? Don't mean to.
We are also getting ready for a big snow storm this weekend. Most of the weather stations are calling for at least a foot of snow. Most likey more. The kids will love it. I will still be on the couch.
Well, time to get moveing. I will talk to you all soon. Have a healthy day.

Hi everyone!

Lori! You poor sweetie! Take care of yourself and get better. Don't worry about the exercise if it makes you do horrid things like coughing and stuff. You can work out when you're all better!

Jen that cake does sound delish! I'm not a fan of upside down PINEAPPLE cake...but putting blueberries in it??? OH YUMMY! I agree...perhaps a recipe? Pweeze?? :D

Christina sorry I haven't emailed you back...it's been a wild week 'round here! Feel free to email me anytime! I promise I'll write back! (that goes for everyone!)

As for the exercises...I like to walk. I enjoy being out in the crisp air and feeling my heart get all pumpy (:)) and know that while I'm enjoying the beautiful woods around me I'm also making myself healthier. I think if I had to choose a place to walk TO I'd choose Alaska. That way I'll also get to hit the Northwest Territory, Bathurst Inlet, Nunavut and many of the other beautiful wide open spaces my weight is keeping me from visiting. *happy thoughtful sigh*

For "strength training" I use hand weights while sitting in front of the tv. I mean, I'm there anyway and if I'm not knitting (yay for knitting!) then I'm not doing anything but sitting like a lump. You can easily lift the weights while watching the tv so...that's what I do. I haven't gone so far as to start doing sit ups or crunches but I'll do leg lifts and stuff like that. (I HATE doing crunches...*sigh* but I know I'll eventually have to do them. *G*)

Well, I'd better get back to work. I have a full pot of tea (Bigelow's constant comment decaf with sweetnlow) a few pussycats spread around my desk and computer and a beautiful view of the snowy outside.

Catch y'all laters!

Kae

Hiya.

As my title says..I've been thinking and I have a question for you all.
Weight issues has always been an emotional part of my life and I'd like to think that I'm not alone..or you all wouldn't be here at New Creations with me :)
Ok, here is my question just respond with the first thing that pops in your head.
The day you weigh in and make goal..what do you think will be your first reaction? laugh, cry, jump up and down, kiss/hug your leader.. or maybe a combination?
I'm just curious. Most likley I would cry.

Have a good day..I'll check back later

guerita765
01-23-2005, 08:54 AM
Christina,
I think I will laugh when I reach goal. Maybe even cry a little! ;)
For my miles to Milwaukee, Wisconsin......1057.12 miles! :tired: I will be ready for a nap when I get there!
I have to get ready for church so I need to go but will be back later. Take care and yes DRINK YOUR WATER! I have done pretty good on that front lately! :dancer:

Christalynn
01-23-2005, 10:19 AM
Ah yes, the water...well I have drank alot of water but I haven't been able to keep count for some reason. My job has a new rule of no drinks while working (only on breaks) :censored: So I have to drink all I can before and after work :coffee2:

Shawn Sounds like you better get started on that walking trip, you have a long way to go  Are we still on for that question of the week?

I weigh in tomorrow ladies. Wish me luck! but before that I'm going to the fitness center for an hour. I hope that it makes some difference in the scale if only by a little :goodscale
I am at that point again. I am getting bored of the same foods. Any quick meal ideas :?:

I hope everyone is doing good and staying positive.
I'll check back later.
Take care,

guerita765
01-24-2005, 12:01 AM
Yes, the question of the week. Any ideas? We may be the only ones answering the questions, Christine, but that's alright...we will just get to be better friends! :D
Maybe we should think of the question and ......take turns? This week I could think of one since you did last week...unless you already have one?
How come they are restricting your drinking?
That is really not good! :censored:
I think I will go Tuesday to my meeting and weigh in. :crossed: Hope I at least lost another pound! I did fit into my old jeans! They are size 14's but they were pretty comfortable, not too tight or anything. Until I ate lunch that is. But I ate a lot (nachos with chicken) and had two diet sodas! Not much for dinner and no breakfast. So I think I did alright today. Could have been better.....ate breakfast and a smaller lunch. But Sunday is usually my day to splurge a little. :p
Anyway. Gonna go to bed...early day tomorrow and I am going to :workout: :tread: ! So I will talk to you tomorrow. Have a wonderful Monday!

Hello ,

I am still here. I just have been battleing this cold and now my son is sick with the same thing and a fever. Right now the kids are sleeping so I have a few minutes. Knowing my luck they will here the keys clicking and wake up though.
We are pretty much snowed in here. Got about 15-16 inches of snow over the weekend. I had to dig my car out yesterday. It took 3 hours. Talk about a workout. So needless to say my body is sore today.

Well, lets see, what will be my first reaction when I hit goal? I will cry. No doubt about it. I KNOW I WILL. I will also cry when I hit 199. Only cause I haven't seen that # in a very very long time.
As far as new recipes, I think I need some too. I have been soooooo bad this week. Yesterday I ate 2 candy bars :o . I am hoping that digging my car out helped burn that off. I'm not sure whats with me latly. I wake up ready to face the day and eat right and then some where between lunch and dinner I start to mess up. Then once I have messed up I just don't care for the rest of the day.
Although I can tell you that chicken goes a long way. There are so many different ways you can cook it. Look at all the different marinades. Pick something you like and cook the chicken in it. Or try shake and bake. Just a couple of suggestions.

Well, today I have to try to drive my son to the doctor, and then get myself to the doctor for my birth control. ( I said try because of the icy roads) I am also hoping that my husband comes home from work today. He works at an airport and has been there since Friday night. I kinda miss him :( . Ialso have to try and get to my WW meeting tonight if they are open. Need to see what damamge I did this week. :?:

OK.....I have typed long enough (and complained long enough as well) so now I must go and get my daughter breakfast. See, I told you she would hear me typing and wake up  . I will type to you all soon.
By the way, thank you all for sticking to this post. I know I haven't been around often enough, and I am just thankful that you are still here and welcoming me even though I am not here alot. Thank you.

TTFN, Lori

I woke up this morning extremely dizzy :dizzy: but I still made it to weigh in. I didn’t stay for the meeting. I had a loss of 1.8 woohoo! :dancer: I joined the walking club at WW today. I think they give out little prizes after you've walked so many miles.

Lori- Glad to see your post. I couldn’t handle all that snow. Even if I do live in Kansas. I would have to relocate every winter. I hope your husband come home soon and safe.
Shawn- you can have the question. Taking turns sounds great. I need all the best friends :cofdate: I can get. There is a lady I work with that likes to go by the book to the T and she complained to our main office.. The rest is history but no worries…we find ways around things ;) so we'll have our water back soon :D
WOW! a size 14, I can remember that size if I think hard enough :headache:
