Our company is looking into new health insurance and I want to make sure we chose one that is "favorable" to WLS. Two of the ones being talked about are Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Aetna. I know there has been talk in the news about one company issuing a blanket statement about not covering WLS, but I can't remember which one. Can someone tell me?
Thanks

Hi Barb,
Any chance of getting United Healthcare? They seem to be one of the more WLS friendly companies.
I think I read that Aetna is not covering WLS anymore, but I didn't find anything to support that.
Does this mean you're still thinking about surgery?
Good luck,

Well I can say for AETNA that as of January this year they will not cover any WLS. When I was considering having this done I was informed that the company stance was that WLS was considered cosmetic.

Hi Barbara - If you look on duodenalswitch.com there is an entire forum dedicated to insurance issues. Even if you are considering another type of surgery you may be able to get info on a general wls policy for each of these companies. -Ruby
