Hi Everyone!

We were formerly under the heading, "The Merry Christmas Challenge," and we all did very well during the holidays. Now it's time to start a new thread called "The Valentinies," with the emphasis on tiny. :) Anyone can join. Here are the rules: Have a food plan, exercise, drink water and have a goal (inches or weight.) I plan to count cals, do 30 or more minutes per day, drink 8 glasses of water and my goal is to lose 8 inches.

We will start Jan. 2, 2005 and end on Valentine's Day. Who's up for the challenge?

Dena

12-30-2004, 06:33 PM
Hey there Dena,

I am definitely up for the Challenge. As we start this new one, maybe we could all review how we did for the Christmas Challenge. Personally, my goal was to lose 8 to 12 pounds by December 22. I actually lost 11 - 1/2 pounds by December 26. :D JOY!

I am now taking a break until January 3 (Monday), rather than January 2 for me. I know that I will not be good Sunday, as the Carolina Panthers play New Orleans, hoping for a Wild Card spot......... and it will still be *New Year's weekend.*:o I've decided to give myself one more day. But more power to those of you who can do it! :dizzy:

On December 26, I was down to 200 pounds. Yee-HAWWWWWWWWWWW! Now, I know my weight will be up some on Monday, but I knew that when I planned my diet break. If I end up at 203 starting Monday, that's okay. I have to learn to do that.......... splurge sometimes for few days, then get back on track. It's called *life*, right?

I'll be anxious to hear how you've all manged over the holiday. Hope it's been wonderful, and that you're ready for a *skinny-getting* New Year!:p

12-30-2004, 07:30 PM
Hello. I would love to join "The Valentine's"! Although my holiday was very unsucessful for weight loss, I plan on a re-start on January 2nd. So, I would love to be challenged. My goals are to stick to the weight watchers points, excercise 30 or more minutes a day, drink 8 glasses of water, and lose 8 pounds (155) by February 14th (what a wonderful present for me and my bf) :o . Congrats to the both of you for your commitment over the holidays and your losses, I know that must feel like a huge achievment. I look forward to getting to know both of you and anyone else who joins in. Good luck to everyone. Dena, I too will be celebrating the New Year, but you definetly deserve a day off! Talk to you soon.........

Happy New Year to everyone!!! :hat:

12-31-2004, 11:45 AM
Well, since I dropped the ball on Dena's Christmas challenge, I hope I don't get voted off! :D I would like to lose between 5-10 pounds by Valentines Day. I'm on the WW point system and concentrate on cardio and strength building for my exercise. Plus, my family and I are joining a walking club this year as well. My motivation here is that I got a beautiful emerald ring (my birthstone) for Christmas and it's a little snug-but that's not stopping my from wearing it! Hee, hee. However, I would like a better fit for my ring. Here's my plan:
30 minutes exercise everyday
stay within my WW points
8-10 glasses of water a day
daily check ins here and w/others

Dena-thanks for the challenge. I assure you I will stay on track this time!
Bonnie-at 200! Congrats! :cheer: You go, girl! That's my next goal!
Well, gotta run. Going shopping w/oldest DD. Some one on one time. Good luck, ladies!

12-31-2004, 01:05 PM
OOPS! :o

Forgot to state my *goals* for the Valentinies Challenge, and I will have to be realistic here........ I want to be down to a solid 195 pounds by Valentine's Day. This period might include a week of vacation in Florida, so I will have to be VERY, VERY GOOD the other five weeks!:^: That is a 5-pound loss from where I was on December 26 (200).

I am counting calories (trying to stay at 1500 per day), doing water aerobics three times per week, working out with weights and bicycling twice a week, and throwing in an occasional longish walk. Doing approximately this has taken off 34 pounds in the last six months, and I'm beginning to get lots of comments so it seems to be a good plan.

:flow1: Welcome back, skinnybutt! We missed you, girl! And welcome, Cole63, it is a pleasure to have you with us! :flow1:

12-31-2004, 04:57 PM
Good Morning, Ladies!

Glad to see you back, Bonnie and Skinny! And welcome, Cole! Our little group did a great job motivating and inspiring each other last challenge, and I know we will do the same this time around.

I love all of your plans and goals.

Bonnie, congratulations on losing 34 pounds so far!! We are all so proud of you. You worked hard and now it is showing!! :bravo:

Cole, so happy to meet you and welcome! I know you'll reach your goal with flying colors. Like you said, what a great valentine present for you and your boyfrined! So what are you and your boyfriend doing for New Year"s?

Skinny, welcome back, girl! What a great plan! Plus, I love the idea of your whole family joining a walking club. (Hubby and I like to walk, too,) Wow, your ring sounds fabulous! So glad you could join us! :)

As for me, my original goal was to lose 10 lbs., but I lost 4 lbs. I am now 146, starting from 177. It seems each pound is a lot harder to lose these days. So now I'm going to concentrate on inches. I know I lost inches from all the exercising I do, because my clothes fit better, and I'm proud of that considering the holidays.

Anyone else interested in joining us, please do!

Dena

12-31-2004, 08:08 PM
Dena, I am so proud of your four pounds lost during the Challenge! :balloons: to you! You exercise more than anybody I know, so you must have a lot of muscle weighing in there. Also, I've ALWAYS heard that the slower you lose it, the harder it is for it to come back............ so please look at it that way! As long as the scale is going DOWNWARD, and we're exercising a lot, we know we're on the right track, heading the right direction. I want to thank you again, so much, for starting these Challenges....... YOU ROCK! :flow2: (I don't know how I'll do, with taking this break!:^: I'm praying that I can get right back on the straight and narrow on Monday.......... and I intend to. Please say a little prayer for me, girls!:) ) :grouphug: to all of you! HAPPY NEW YEAR! :flow2:

01-01-2005, 12:56 PM

Here's wishing you all a prosperous and healthy year. We shall attain our goals this year!

P.S. Bonnie, thanks for your kind words. I will say a prayer that you hav a wonderful time and will get right back on track.

Dena

01-01-2005, 07:28 PM
Happy New Year, everyone!

Iím ready to join the Valentines. Iím going to start on Monday. My goal is to lose two pounds per week, which will work out to twelve pounds over six weeks. I plan to increase my minutes on the stationary bike, walk more, eat healthy foods, and stay within my daily calorie limit.

During the Christmas Challenge I set an over-ambitious goal of 20 lbs. I donít know exactly what I was thinking when I picked that figure. It would have worked out to 4 pounds or more a week. But, itís not the goal-weight that matters, itís the results, and the great news is that I lost a total of 13 pounds during the Challenge! :hat: I am thrilled.

I know Iíve probably gained back a pound or two during my hiatus from Christmas to New Year, but Iím just so pleased to have lost weight during the Holidays.

Dena, I want to thank you for choosing Valentineís Day as our next challenge. What I learned from the Merry Christmas Challenge is that itís much easier for me to lose weight when I set a short-term goal. I have a long way to go, and it can be really discouraging when I start thinking about how much I need to lose overall to reach my healthy weight. Setting mini-goals, however, is not only do-able, but it keeps me motivated.

Iím looking forward to the next six-weeks.

01-02-2005, 04:21 PM
I'm so glad you found us! I was worried some of our buddies from our little group couldn't find us because there are so many other threads happening right now. (It's good to know we are all trying to do well for the new year.)

Congratulations on your successful weightloss so far! I think you've lost the most! That's so awesome! What an accomplishment during the holidays! :bravo:

Dena

01-03-2005, 10:40 AM
:coffee: Let's rev our engines, and get ready to roll, girls! OKAY, here's how my "break" has affected me. As of Dec. 26, I was down 34 pounds, to 200. During my eating break, I have gained back four, according to my scale this morning. Not bad at all, considering all the *morsels* I enjoyed!:D

Now I want to get that four back off plus another five pounds by Valentine's Day, and it will certainly be a Challenge, as I will be vacationing from Jan. 22 through the 30th! :o I'm getting back on my exercise schedule.... water aerobics/exercise last Thursday night, Friday morning, yesterday (on my own), and class again tonight. Weights tomorrow........ then to the mountains for three days......... then back in the weight room on Friday, etc.

So happy to see you back, Florafae. We all work well together.:) :grouphug: to you all! Good luck to everybody on this journey in 2005!

01-03-2005, 10:46 AM
I hope that everyone had a safe and happy new year. Now it is time to get back on track, for me. Today is a new day and I am commited to my goals for the next 6 weeks! I am so proud of all of you who lost over the holiday season, unfortunately I did not, but I also did not gain so I guess that is a good thing. The fact that all of you had so much will power gives me hope!

Dena-my bf and I spent New Year's at one of his friends house. It was pretty low key, a lot of fun, and too much to drink! Why is it that the older you get the harder a hang over is to recover from? What did you do for New Year's?

tobaccygirl- 34 pounds? What an accomplishment. You should be so proud of yourself. We need to all plan to buy something sexy for Valentine's day to show off our new, skinnier figures! How did you do over the New Year weekend? I was not very good, but I am starting anew this week, I promise!!!

Gotta get back to work. Have a great and healthy day :^:

01-03-2005, 01:06 PM
Dena! Great to see you again! Thanks for setting this up. Congrats to you for the christmas challenge. time to post some pictures!

Bonnie- 200?! come on! just 1 lb more! Congrats! :cheer:

Flora- nice to see you back too!

me- I went to Maine last week and so I restart this AM but to my suprise this morning I was only 1 lb heavier on my bathroom scale than when I left on the 26th. My goal is 175. Trying to achieve the wedding goal before the wedding- so 9 lbs. I am wearing a size 14 pant today- which is comfy not tight by any means, and a size M sweater! wow! did ya'll see my post about 44 inches lost since I started in June? I wonder where that came from? :?: kinda hard to believe I was that big- that's nearly 4 feet!

Looking forward to starting up with all of you again- and meeting some new people too!
Happy new year!

01-03-2005, 03:28 PM
oh- forgot how I'm going to do it... Still sticking to my low carb, 8 glasses of water, and 30 minutes of exercise per day. I'll probably drop back down on phase 1- 20 carbs for a while since my weight loss is slowing down too. Hello Body, I'm not done yet! :)

and the curves scale at noon showed 182 today... :D

we still going to weigh in on Mondays?

01-03-2005, 04:56 PM
Dena, Kandice, Bonnie, and Skinny-Butt, Iím so glad to be back with you again on our latest challenge. :) Cole, welcome to the fold. This is a wonderful group. Youíll find lots of support, motivation and encouragement here.

This is day-one for me, so I stepped on the scale this morning and logged my starting weight. As expected, I was up 2.5 pounds since our last weigh-in, but I hope to lose most of that this coming week.

Iím feeling so positive. I woke up thinking that 2005 is the year that I will finally reach a healthy weight and maintain it!

Good luck to us all, :goodscale

01-03-2005, 05:30 PM
Hi Everyone!

Well, here's to a great start! I'm pretty excited and very happy to see our little group come together. If anyone else is interested in joining us, please do.

Kandice, so good to see you again! Wow, you lost a whole person in those inches!! :bravo:

Cole, you asked what we did on New Year's... Well, I live in fabulous Las Vegas, where New Year's is BIG, so first we went out to dinner, then partied at Green Valley Casino (a plush hot spot for locals), then saw the fireworks along the strip and stayed out until 2:30 am. Hubby and I had a great time!

Now it's back to business. I'm counting my cals on, have gotten my Slim in 6 exercise dvd to play today and am going to drink my 8-10 glasses of water.

Kandice, yes, we will weigh and/or measure ourselves on Monday and report our progress.

Good luck, everyone!

01-04-2005, 11:19 AM
I completely forgot to weigh myself so I will post weight tomorrow. Sorry! Anyway, here's the past three days:
Saturday-On point (OP), 35 minute walk, 8 glasses of water
Sunday-OP, 60 minute walk, 8 water
Monday-under point, 60 minute walk, 8 water.

I feel like I'm truly back on track now. I have another thread in which we weigh in on the 15th and 30th so I'll have to remind myself to weigh in weekly for this one!

Dena-congrats on your Christmas challenge weight loss! Way to go! :cp: :bravo:

Bonnie-congrats to you as well! :cp: :bravo: You two ladies are inspirational for me!

Kandice-When is the wedding? Hang in there. I'll bet you meet your wedding goals w/no problems. 44 inches? WOW! You're doing great! Kudos to you! :cheer:

Cole-forgot to say welcome last time I was here. How are you doing? Hope things are going well for you.

Florafee-welcome back! Like you, I have a feeling that this is the year that I will finally meet my weight loss/healthy lifestyle goals. We will thrive in 2005! How does that sound? :D

Well, ladies, gotta get to work. Hope everyone is having a good health day. Remember the words of Winston Churchill-Never give in. Never, never, never give in! We can do it!

01-04-2005, 01:00 PM
skinny- congrats on staying OP or UP for the weekend.

I'm planning on exercising at lunch in 10 minutes- my gym bag in in the car so no excuse! will be my second time this year. I'm made a personal goal for myself to exercise at least 200 times this year. (at Curves) they track your visits so I should have 300 or more by the end of the year. 5x a week for 52 weeks= 260 So I'm allowing myself some "fudge" factor when we go on vacations and things like that.

wedding's in 8 weeks= March 5th, 2005. 2 months from tomorrow. It's coming so fast! I sent out the invites yesterday and finishing them today and tomorrow (the ones that we were planning on hand delivering for one reason or another) My dress is already altered but I'm seeing the most change in my thighs so those don't affect the dress. I bought a bikini for the first time ever for our Honeymoon March 13th to the Bahamas. Chris already saw it when I was trying it on and he liked it very much. :o

that's it for now I guess. Talk to everyone later!

01-04-2005, 01:54 PM
Kandice, only 8 weeks until the big day--Wow! Congratulations on your bikini. A Bahamas honeymoon sounds heavenly. :sunny:

Skinny-B, youíre off to a great start. I agree that it feels good to be back on course and working toward healthy goals. Yes, we will thrive in 2005!

The last of our holiday company leaves tomorrow. I enjoyed having everyone here, but now I am quite ready for things to get back to normal. A week ago, when the second wave of guests arrived, I moved my exercise bike to the garage. I intended to use it out there, but it remained out-of-sight and out-of-mind. Tomorrow morning after I return from dropping people off at the airport, the bike comes inside and Iíll start pedaling up a storm.

Have a good day, everyone. :flow2:

01-04-2005, 02:43 PM
Well, it sounds like everyone is off to a great start to the new year. I love "thrive in 2005", that is perfect. Hopefully this will be the year that we will all make our goals!

Dena-Las Vegas? Wow, that sounds like fun. So, I guess life is never boring there! That sounds like so much fun. Sounds like you are back on track and ready to go. I am the same way, I have stuck to my weight watchers points and hopefully it will show on the scales!

Skinny butt- You are doing so good. I see you are also on Weight Watchers points. I have found this to be the best way to change my eating habits, because you can eat what you want as long as you stay within your points! And a walking club with your family is a great idea, you can get some Q.T. with your family and everyone gets excercise! I am trying to make my mom walk with me when I get home from work. She is just really tired and trying to make dinner, so she dosen't ever want to go, but it is so much quicker and more fun when someone goes with you. Oh well, I will have to stick it out by myself until she comes around

Kandice-that is a great plan to bring your clothes to work, I might have to start doing that, then I will not have any excuse not to work out! Sounds like you are almost ready for that wedding-how exciting, and to be so skinny, too :) I am sure that your fiance is so proud of you. I know that you will meet all of your goals and have a perfect body for that bikini ;)

Florafae-I know what you mean about getting back on track, it is hard when you have company around, you feel like you are imposing on them if you leave to go work out! But, it sounds like you are ready to commit again and make your V-Day goal and I know you will do a great job.

Hope everyone is having a good day. I have stuck to my points today, had a heavy lunch, so I will have to be careful at dinner. Biggest Loser season finale is tonite, does anyone else have that guilty pleasure? Good luck for the rest of the day~Nicole

01-04-2005, 03:02 PM
so here's our goals:

Dena- 8 inches
Cole- 8 lbs
Skinny- 7.5 lbs (between 5- 10)
Bonnie- 5 lbs
Flora- 12 lbs (2 lbs/ week)
Kandice- 9 lbs
Sweetpea- 15 lbs
DewCan- 10 lbs

Cole- Yup I watch the Biggest Loser- love it! I got Chris into watching it too. He actually reminded me "today is the show" Not the finale though is it? I thought there were 2 more shows? A little concerned about how fast they're losing and how hard they're working for it because it doesn't seem to be realistic or able to maintain it. How many people- us even- work out for 4 hours spinning? My 30 minutes a day is fine by me!

01-04-2005, 04:17 PM
Hey there good-buddies!:flow2: Dropping in for just a moment to say that Kandice is right *in a way* about my goal - to lose 5 lbs. by Valentine's, but before that, I have to lose my *Christmas splurge* weight....... I gained 4 back, had dropped one as of today, so that is 3 lbs. Christmas weight to lose, THEN the 5 lbs. more, so that I will be 195 by Valentine's Day! :) Between now and then, I will be on vacation in Florida for 8 nights/ 9 days, so this isn't gonna be easy, kids!:o

Kandice, I can hear your excitement, and I'm so pleased for you.......... your wedding will be a wonderful happening! Florafae, I know how you feel about company........... you love to see them come, then you love to get back to normal. I felt the same, except I miss my sweet granddaughter, but there is a reason 60 year olds don't have young kids!:D Dena, Skinny-Butt, Cole......... looks like we're all ready to get serious! I wish all of us STRENGTH, and JOY as we strive to accomplish all that we need to, in this New Year! :)

01-04-2005, 04:25 PM
Hi Valentines,
I am new to 3FC and have been spending the last 4 days trying to find my way around! I would really love to settle down into one group before I get lost forever! I love the idea of mini goals/challenges. Looking at a smaller picture works best for me!

Sweetpea's Challenge:
I will stick to my diet daily.
I will achieve 30 minutes of aerobics and 30 minutes of strength training every day.
I will drink 64oz H20 every day.
I will lose 15 pounds by Valentine's Day.
I will log in to this Thread daily and be a positive support member for fellow Valen-
tinies! (

01-04-2005, 04:37 PM
Well, sounds like everyone is doing great so far.

I'm doing a combination of counting cals and The South Beach Diet, where you don't eat many carbs. So far so good. I also plan on heading to the gym right after I type this. Need to get back on the treadmill. I find I sleep better when I do. I'm on my 3rd glass of water, so 5 more to go.

Kandice, thank you for bringing us up to date on our goals. It's good to see everyone's plans. And we shall accomplish those! Also, congrats on your wedding plans. It sounds so exciting. I remember I was a wreck by the time my wedding date came around with all the stuff that needs to get done. Sounds like you are doing everything right! Especially losing weight and taking care of yourself! :^: And the Bahamas sounds wonderful!!

Cole, I walk by myself a lot, except for weekends, when hubby and I walk together. Otherwise, I have to motivate myself to get out there. Before we got too busy with the holidays, I would get up early and go for my walk first thing. I got to get back to that habit again. Let's motivate each other. :^: I also watched Big Fat Loser on TV before the holidays. Who is winning? Blue or Red team?

Flora, glad everyone is going home. I know what you mean... before Christmas it was easier to get going. Now it's time to get inspired and get back on our statonary bikes, treamills or just start walking. It's nice to get back into our regular routines.

Susan, congrats to your for being back on program and on track. Together it will get easier! You're doing a great job!

OK, ladies, gotta run.
Bye for now.
Dena

01-05-2005, 09:18 AM
:coffee: Good morning, everyone! Hope everyone had a good nite. I stayed right on points and even got a walk in when I got home from work. It helps to have a dog, they get to where they expect to be walked and if you don't, you feel guilty!

Kandice-I thought last night was the season finale, I can't keep up b/c they didn't even have the show on for 2 weeks, that really confuses me. I wonder why they do that, they are doing that with desperate housewives too. (obviously you see a trend, my guilty pleasure is silly tv shows-lol) I enjoyed watching last night's show, but agree with you. If I were put on the ranch with a trainer, controlled environment, and endless time to workout I would lose 50 pounds too. Don't know how healthy it is and how they will do in the real world, but I guess we will see. Who do you want to win? I like Gary, I think he has come the farthest with his attitude. But, I saw a picture of all of them in people magazine and it looks like Ryan will be the Biggest Loser-you could barely recognize him!

tobaccygirl-Good luck with that Christmas and V-Day weight loss. I am right there with you. I had originally set a Christmas goal for myself, but then lost track of things once family came in town and a big plate of sweets was set in front of me. I also had a bit of a gain, but we will just have to work extra hard to get it off-we CAN do it

Sweet Pea-Welcome! I know you will do great. It is important to have a support system like this to help you along in your weight loss journey. I am hoping that this will make the difference for me!

Dena- I know what you mean about the walking, it is hard but I am going to have to force myself to do it when I get home from work or early in the morning. It is like there are not enough hours in the day, I swear if I had one more hour I would use it to work out! On the biggest loser, they don't have teams anymore it is all personal weight loss now, but I think overall the red team won, prob. b/c their trainer kicked their butts!

OK, back to work! Everyone have a great and healthy day ;)

01-05-2005, 09:28 AM
Cole- I want Gary to win- his attitide is a big thing. I really thought that Kelly was going home last night. Moe looks wonderful! 20 more lbs and wanting to lose 100 in 2005! I think Ryan will win too- he looks good too of course but I don't like his do anything to win attitude. Poor Moe should have won the treadmill.

Dena- don't get me wrong- I'm am stressed with the planning but it all seems like it's coming together pretty much on it's own. we were engaged for 13 months and started early. actually bought my dress 16 days after getting engaged and booked the chapel and reception hall that same weekend. So we've had the luxury of having a few off months.

Sweetpea- of course! welcome! Hope you enjoy our group!

Bonnie- I didn't count that because I know you'll lose the christmas weight in no time! keep going! :cheer:

back to curves at lunch time- my bag's in the car again...

01-05-2005, 10:11 AM
So glad!!! That means just two more to go ..... :^: Then I start working on the five pounds for the Valentinie Challenge!

SweetPea, welcome to the group! We are so happy to have you. I have just been amazed at the difference this group has made for me.... It is wonderful to have you all to *talk to* even though I haven't met you. I don't know if I would have done as well without you................. Dena, Kandice, Florafae! :grouphug: And now we have Cole and SweetPea and SkinnyButt ........... Terrific!:smug:

I worked out with weight machines in a MOBBED YMCA last night. It was awful....... I only go at night, rather than daytime, because my friend must go then. I'm told that after a couple of weeks, the crowd and their New Year's resolutions are outta there............ they don't stick to it. (Sad for them.......... but more comfortable for regulars, I guess.) Anyway, we'll have to go later at night, until it thins out. What I really resent is that some brought their kids who *played* on machines (until they got chased off.) That is really not supposed to be allowed.... a child is supposed to have a weight-training card to be there, but I know some didn't. I love kids, but not in the weight-training area!

Tonight I go to water aerobics, then I'm off to the mountains for three days.......... breakfast on the way up with my brother, two lunches and dinners with my sister, lunch with another brother on the way home. It is SO HARD when I go over. Everybody likes to feed us! HELP!:o :dizzy: :^: Oh, well, I've lost about six pounds per month in the last six to seven, while making many trips over there. I CAN do it this year!!!:)

Have a wonderful day, everybody! :cheer:

01-05-2005, 10:58 AM
Hope everyone is having a great health day! I was under point again but only by 1.5 pts. Don't worry; we're ordering pizza here at the office tomorrow for someone's bday so I'm sure I'll use them all tomorrow! :D Again, don't worry-I definitely won't go overboard but I will probably use some flex points. Cole-I'm sure you understand what I'm saying but hope I'm not confusing anyone else! Anway, walked 60 mintues yesterday as well. Also on track w/water. However, stepped on the scale and I haven't lost anything yet. Bad scale; bad, bad scale! Oh well, I'm just beginning. It will come off soon.

Kandice-I hope the next few weeks are as stress free as possible. I was matron of honor for my best friends wedding last year and she drove me crazy! However, the girl has serious OCD issues! :) It sounds like you guys have things pretty much under control. Just be aware that last minute stuff does come up. Usually it's small stuff so it's no big sweat. My DD was in my sister's wedding a few years ago. She was dressed and ready when I realized I hadn't seen her for a few minutes. I found her in the ladies room crying. I asked what was wrong and she said-I'm going to ruin Aunt Mary's wedding! I asked what she was talking about and she said I have a runner in my tights! Poor baby. So we ran out and got her new tights and the day was saved. Anyway, hope I didn't scare ya! :) Congrats on the bikini. Doesn't it feel good?

FLorafee-I understand what you said about company. Feeling that very thing towards my adult son that's sleeping on our couch! He moves out in March so I get my living room back! Yeah! Was glad we could help him out of a tough spot, though.

Cole-congrats on your walking! How are you doing w/your points? I just love WW. It helps me learn smarter choices but doesn't exclude anything. I look forward to it working soon!

Sweetpea-welcome! Glad to have you. You will find great encouragement and understanding here. Check in as often as you can! Look forward to getting to know you.

Bonnie-I walked at the Y last night, and like yours, it was covered over. I wondered how many people were there due to resolutions and how many would stick w/it. I totally agree about kids on the machines. I didn't let mine get on them until they reached the right age or got their gym pass. Oh, well.
I hate walking at my Y as it takes 16 times around the track to make a mile. It feel like FOREVER to get my four miles in! Ugh. But machines were all busy and it was raining. So, I popped in some music and walked anyway.

Dena-thanks for this challenge. I will try to help w/your motivation to walk. I walk some w/my DD's and some by myself right now. DH cannot keep up yet and he doesn't want to "slow me down" so he made me promise to walk at my normal speed instead of staying w/him which means, of course, that I end up leaving him. Oh, well. He'll soon be to the point where he can keep up w/all of us.

Well, gotta run. See ya in the funny pages! :D

Hi Everyone!

I got up early this morning and went for a brisk walk. Boy, is it cold out there! Next time I'm wearing gloves! Yesterday I was planning on going to the gym, but misplaced my card, so I ended up walking in the mall instead for an hour. Hubby and I walked a little last night, too. It feels great to be back in control! I did well eating-wise and drinking my water yesterday, too. This is how it should be. :)

Sweet Pea, welcome to the group. I don't know how I missed your message. Maybe we were typing at the same time. In any event, I think you'll like it here. Lots of support, motivation and inspiration. I love your goals!

Bonnie, somehow I missed you, too. I hope you have a great time with your relatives. We always miss you when you leave. :( I know you'll continue to do well!

Florafae, Kandice, Susan and Cole, you are all doing such a great job! I'm so proud of all of us! (Susan, stay off that scale. It doesn't always motivate us. I know it discouages me a lot.)

Take care, everyone!

Hi, I'd like to join your Valentinies group if I may. I joined the Christmas group, but we had a death in the family and that's why I dropped out of your group. I'd like to give it another try.
My goal for Valentine's Day is 10 pounds.
I will do this by
1. exercise 60 minutes
2. do situps
3. drink 8 cups of water
4. eat less
this is my daily goal.

I've been reading some of the earlier posts, and there seems to be a lot of you that are taking vacations. Sounds wonderful. It's so cold and snowy here, a beach with sun and sand would be a definite spirit lifter. I hope you all enjoy these trips.

Hi Diana,

Welcome back! I'm glad you found us. Your plans for losing weight sound great. Good luck these next 6 weeks.
Dena

Bonnie- congrats on getting lb #2 off!

Skinny- I'm not wearing nylons (to my grandma's dismay "but you have to have something on your legs!") I go around without nylons all year long, I don't know if I could stand them, even if it's just one day. don't know about the girls though. most likely not either- both are extreme tomboys that wanted to wear pants! My maid of honor is my pledge sister when we pledged the sorority- it was only me and her that stuck it out. She lives in Maine still so she really hasn't done too much for me since the wedding is down here and all. Hope she doesn't say I'm a bridezilla! we got back 2 RSVPs today (both yes) excited- this is happening!

DewCan- sorry about your loss. Glad to have you back with us!

Hi ladies I would like to join your challenge. I reached my goal a year ago this past October but I have slipped back about 30 lbs. So time to get my rear in gear. I have been trying to stick to my WW plan but have been struggling so it is a new year and a new goal. My long term goal is to get back to my goal wt by May when I go on a trip to Quebec with my sons Grade 8 class. So for Feb 14 I would be happy with 10lbs gone.
I plan to do this with 10-14 glass of water a day, that is the easy part for me, going to the gym 4-5 x per week to do cardio and weights and perhaps get my next programe from my trainer and most of all be OP every day.

01-05-2005, 09:40 PM
Thanks for the welcome,
Kandice, I hope that the wedding planning goes wellf or you ;)
Dollar, I understand the frustration of gaining weight back. I've never been at goal though, that must have been super annoying!!

Good day today. Trying out the Windsor Pilates DVD's. ((THIS is going to take a LOOOOOOG time to master! haha)) Weather is totally awful here in Southern Ohio...MAJOR flooding. I had to drive 45 out of my way to get home today! So, I am confined to the treadmill (b-o-r-i-n-g). I picked up some DVDs at the library today. I figure I could watch a part of the movie for my hour of treading, then maybe be motivated to tune in tomorrow to watch the conclusion! (kinda like watching soaps!)

I love stopping in here to get a boost from all of you. My "weak" time is in the evening, so it's great to come here, read how everyone is doing, and to write. (Keeps my hands busy!)

I don't know about all of you....but I am usually the last on the list to be "taken" care of. I am too busy "taking" care of everyone else! So, I am trying to give myself a little mini reward every night. It keeps my mind occupied (and off of cheating!) to think about what that reward will be.

Everyone...think positive thoughts!

Sweethpea :^:

:coffee: Good morning, all! Welcome back, DewCan .... so happy to see you with us again. And we're happy to have you, dollar! The more the merrier, and the more motivation we'll have lifting our little group up! :)

Well, I'm off to the mountains for two nights to see my dear Mom in the nursing home, and to fight off the culinary tempations posed by my siblings! It won't be easy but I SHALL manage it.:dizzy:

I did not stay with my 1400 cals. yesterday, more like 1800, but, for whatever reason, I was hungry as a bear!!! Couldn't leave the food alone.......... and of course, working out in the water for over an hour makes you ravenous!:o Oh, well, two pounds of Christmas weight still off, and *leaning* toward that third coming off!

I'm proud of all of you for your exercise dedication. I really think that's our key! Falling in love with water aerobics is the real key to my success so far, I would say........

Have a wonderful day, all! Will check in later. :grouphug:

01-06-2005, 09:20 AM
Welcome Dollar! Glad to have you here!

I got pictures developed last night and I wanted to share...
this is me now (last night) minus the 20 lbs and 44 inches and then the other one I have a big sweater on but I still like it- those are all my kappa sisters that came to my bridal shower- the red head int he middle is my maid of honor.

(edited- the picture of me is too large- even though I'm not!- I'll try to fix it and then attach it later)

I'll check back later! Have a great day!

01-06-2005, 02:37 PM
Hi Everyone!

Well, I'm getting back into my exercise routine and I love it. Yesterday I walked 1/2 hour in the morning, 45 minutes at lunch and did a video called "Body Flex." (It's sort of like pilates.) I also had about 1300 cals (no starchy foods) and drank 10 glasses of water. Now we're talking! Those inches better disappear!

Kandice, I love your picture! Is that you in the white sweater? Wow!! You're doing a great job! You look super! Your exercises at Curves inspires me! What a beautiful bride to be!

Bonnie, congrats on losing your two pounds. Have a wonderful trip!!

Sweet, I love your idea of watching movies while being on the treadmill. Then continuing part 2 the next day. Smart idea! I usually listen to music and tread to the beat. Somehow I get lost in the music and think I'm dancing instead of treading. I like to reward myself, too. I'm thinking of a pedicure at the end of this week. It's time.

Diana, how are you doing? Are you counting cals or doing any specific food plan? Glad you are back with us. :)

Dollar, welome. You will get back to your goal!. You've done it before, so I know you can do it again. Having a goal like going to Quebec is great motivation. Good luck to you!

OK, guys, we're on a roll now. Let's keep up the great work!

Dena

01-06-2005, 02:47 PM
dena- yup that's me in the white sweater. 10 glasses of water will definitely make them disappear! I'm strict about my 8 glasses- even found a jug at walmart with 64 ounces designed all about water- this is how much you're need to drink at least... blah blah blah.

bonnie- have fun in NC! we're going to W-S tomorrow to go dancing for the night.

sweetpea- I borrow movies from the library too and Chris laughs at me- thought I was the only one. They usually have some pretty good movies- a few years old, but who cares!

still waiting to get my picture up- a coworker is working on it while he's trying to close month-end/ year end.. hehehehe

01-06-2005, 05:51 PM
Good afternoon,

It sounds as if everyone is motivated and ready to lose. :goodscale

I have a question about water consumption. I have about 6 cups a tea a day--most of it herbal. I drink it plain with no sugar or milk. Iíve been counting this as part of my water intake for the day. I assume this is okay, but I just thought Iíd ask if the rest of you do this, or if you only count ďpureĒ water.

Kandice, thanks for sharing the picture. You look great!

Have to get back to work now.

01-06-2005, 05:51 PM
Hello, Ladies. I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. Work has been crazy, no time to post! I am heading over to the gym after work to sign up for a membership. I have been trying to walk after work, but it is impossible to fight with the daylight, I never win. So, I am just going to suck it up and join the gym. That way, I can go before and after work, with no excuses!

Kandice-I am also upset that Moe left, he really did need that treadmill, but I am sure he will get some sort of endorsement deal from the show. I am so inspired by all of them, although they did have a lot of help and a completely controlled environment. I wish I could go away for 6 months and get skinny, but I just have to accept that this is a slow process. I am just too impatient! I love your pic-you and your friends look like you were having a great time, there is nothing better than good friends. I am sure they are so proud of your weight loss! You will make a beautiful bride.

skinny butt- I have been doing pretty good with my points, I know that WW is the best diet for me, it has already worked once, but I gained it back- sigh! We will do this the right way this time and keep it off!!!

K, girlies gotta run to the gym to let this sales guy talk me into a membership! I know that I need to do it, so I will! Welcome to any new people, I know that this group will help us all to reach our goals. Everyone have a great nite. Stay healthy! XOXO~Nicole

Hi ladies
I have had a good day today stayed OP agian. The water issue tea is ok as long as it is decaf for every glass of non decaf tea or coffee you need to have I glass of water. Pretty much all I drink is water or green tea. So much so I had to increase my water because my body got use to the amount I was drinking so I now drink anywhere from 10-16 glass a day but I sure know when I haven't met my range in water my body lets me know. I didn't get to the gym today due to our lovely winter storm but I should make it there tomorrow night. Have a good evening everyone.

01-06-2005, 10:56 PM
Hi Ladies~

I had a good day, too. Folks here in southern Ohio are looking over Arc plans as we are having major flooding! So, I had to stay indoors and walk the treadmill today again, but watched the first half of NOTORIOUS with Cary Grant (yes, library movies - old movies, but I love to look at the clothes and sets!)

As for the water/tea daily FLUID goal is 1 gallon (or 4 quarts or 16 cups or 128 oz). I make sure that no less than HALF is of water (64oz or better). The rest I make up in 1 quart of green tea and 1 quart of other flavored teas or flavored water (no sugar). I am cutting out caffiene and carbonated beverages...more as an experiment. I haven't had too much trouble getting in my fluids as I have a rule that if I get the hungries or think about food, I grab a fluid and nurse that until the feeling goes away. The hard part is when I am running errands....I am learning where all the CLEAN public restrooms are in my town!!! lol

SInce I stayed OP today, I am giving myself a mini reward. I am going to bed EARLY (10pm is early for me) and starting a new book.

High Fives to Everyone!!

Sweetpea :^:

Good morning!

Cole- did you sign up at the gym?

Sweetpea- that sounds like a good reward! Mine is a bubble bath and a book. The boys are good about it too they know when I’m in the bath- that’s my time. Chris takes care of everything.

May have to “down” by V-Day goal. I weighed last night at Curves and I was down to 179. I knew I weighed less. I brought Carrie over- a trainer the same age as me and she’s getting married in the same chapel we are later on this summer. She’s great.
So anyways, if this stays off this weekend then I’ll have 5 weeks to lose 4 lbs. I think what happened is I jump started my metabolism again. Last week I ate and ate and ate and then this week I’m doing Phase 1 of the diet. When I first started the diet I think I lost 5 lbs that first week too. They said that would happen, when you’re at your peak, you can eat all month and only diet strict for 2-3 days out of the month to maintain.

Flora- I think you and me talked about my stepmom on the Christmas post. She was good at Christmas. I got all Large shirts except for a PJ set- XL and she said she bought that before I told her the smaller size. They had French toast one morning and she made me eggs- without being asked- and she stressed while we were growing up that she wasn’t a short order cook- you ate what she made. When we got “home” and hugged hello- she said “you really are getting smaller!” the rest of the visit was good too with her. She even got me my dannon carb control yogurt that I have every day.

Wondering if this happens to anyone else- people that “don’t believe” in them. That you can keep off the weight and everything. I hate getting comments like “are you doing this just for the wedding?” Are you going to keep it off? Things like that… YES! I needed to lose weight for a long time but obviously the wedding is a huge motivator- what bride doesn’t want to look beautiful on her wedding day?! But yes yes yes- this weight is staying off- never to gain it back again. That and I’ve spent too much on smaller clothes already not to wear them for longer than I have

Have a great day everyone!

01-07-2005, 10:18 AM
oh and if I updated my ticker- I will on Jan 27th- official weigh in day- I would be 1/2 way to goal! YAY! :cheer: 25 lbs lost- 24 more to go!

01-07-2005, 11:27 AM
Yes, I understand about the struggle with relatives/friends being understanding. As far as explanations....I think you explained it very well in your message! Sound like all good reasons to me! Mostly I get "growls" from people who need to lose weight, but haven't the muster to do it. It's like I am making then feel weak about their problem when I am strong and doing something about mine. As we all know...we can't make someone face up to their problem, whatever the addiction may be (ours just happens to be food!). They have to find it in themselves on their own to make a lifelong change, THEN we can influence them by being supportive, etc. We ALL here had to dig deep within ourself and do that. My sister, for the first time in her life, weighs more than me. I know it bothers her to be around me when I am in "diet mode" because she hasn't found it in herself to do anything about her problem. I can't get her to that point either. BUT I can't feel guilty for her either. I have to take care of me. If what I am doing, being strong and taking care of my health, inspires her, then that is all I can hope for and I have to just focus on myself. Whew, glad I got that off my chest!

Have a great day, everyone.
Sweetpea :^:

Dena, Could you tell us more about the body flex video. Although I am walking and strength training, my main focus on the physical part of my plan is to increase my flexibilty and balance. At 43, I see those things really becoming a problem. Activities that require a lot of balance, such as skating, skiiing, kayaking....all of which I used to be pretty good at... I have noticed I am having trouble with them. Plus, my posture is getting bad, especially when I am tired, and my flexibilty has diminished. Pilates seems to focus on strengthening the innor core by contracting muscles. I guess I am looking for something to stretch them. Any hints from the rest of the gang??

Sweetpea :^:

01-07-2005, 11:42 AM
sweetpea- it was in the christmas challenge that I was talking about my stepmom- she tried everything and always loses and then gain all + back. She hadn't been supportive and was comparing my success to her history. Dreaded seeing her at Christmas and her making a comment or not accepting my loss (buying me "fat clothes" still). You said it exactly right! I wish my stepmom would see what I'm doing and inspire her- I've even brought "home" a guestpass from Curves and asked her to go, but she was "too busy". 30 minutes out of your life a day (2% of your day!)- you at least owe it to yourself. But I can't make her see it- she's gotta want it.

01-07-2005, 12:29 PM
sweetpea- are you near lima, oh? they had a picture on the front page of our paper today about the ice storm. all the trees hanging down with ice. I was in Maine in 1998 during our ice storm up there. 11 days without power and the HS turned into the the Red Cross shelter- showering with strangers, was not fun.

01-07-2005, 03:55 PM
Good afternoon to all of you.

Dollar and Sweetpea, thanks for the feedback on the water/tea issue. I appreciate it.

Kandice, Iím glad things went relatively (pun intended) well with your stepmother during your visit. Iíve been wondering how things turned out and was hoping youíd mention it. I think it says a lot that she fixed you eggs without asking. If she were in full sabotage mode, she would have made a big deal about it.

Regarding relatives and friends and negative vibes about our weight loss, there was an interesting article on weight loss in Parade Magazine last Sunday. Did anyone else read it? The gist of it was that losing weight has as much to do with the brain, as it does with the stomach. It talked a lot about the importance of positive affirmations and positive images in attaining and maintaining weight loss. For example, visualizing oneís self as a thin person and saying things like, ďI am in control of my eatingĒ can improve the outcome of a weight loss program.

Iím giving it a try. Iíve created an image in my mind of how I will look in a pair of jeans when Iíve reached my goal weight. Iíve also started saying little positive mantras throughout the day. I figure it canít hurt, and it just might help. ;)

Thinking good thoughts,

01-07-2005, 06:06 PM
Wow, is this place jumping. I love it! Everyone is so motivated. Cheers for us!!

Yesterday I walked for an hour and did my Body Flex tape. I drank my 10 glasses of water and ate right, too. I'm so happy I'm doing the right things.

Sweet Pea, you asked about my Body Flex tape. It's a combination of breathing while tightening your muscles. It's great for the circulation, breathing, strenthening muscles, flexibility and stamina. I know it works because I did it religiously for a year, and I lost many inches. And it only takes 15-20 minutes. But somehow life got in the way, and I stopped, and I when I started up again a few days ago, I was surprised to see how pathetic I am these days. My flexibility and stamina really need help. What an eye opener! By the way, SP, I like looking at old movies, too. I love looking at the costumes and decor. Of couse, I just love movies in general. And before I finally got cable, I went to the library for my videos, too. :D

Kandice, I'm glad your step-mother is trying. I can relate to your situation. My mother tries to sabbatage my success with lots of temptations and then watches every thing I do. She doesn't try to make things easier, always harder, and somehow gets satisfaction when I fail. No compliments when I look good, but lots of comments when I gain. (She has lost weight with my help, so you'd think she'd be understanding, but my hubby thinks she doesn't want me to succeed.) Just thinking about the situation is very irritating. I can't seem to win either way. I just hsve to believe I can do this! With God's help and the support of our little group, I will reach my goal!

Flora, I like the idea of visualization. I definitely know that I dress and act differently when I'm looking good. I'm a lot more outgoing and fun, too.

dollar, you're doing a great job. Keep up the great work! It's snowing here fabulous in Las Vegas, too. What a crazy winter. It hardly ever snows here.

Cole, I think it's great that you are joining a gym. I know I do better at a gym. It's good to have a regular schedule and routine. And you get tons of motivation from watching all the other people work out.

Like I said, it's snowing here today, so I'm freezing. Not used to this cold weather. Can't wait for Spring. Hope to be looking great in my new shorts!

Have a great day, everyone!

:flow2: Hey there ladies........... so good to be back. Just got back to Raleigh a little while ago. Haven't had a minute to post since leaving Thursday morning for the mountains and MUCHO temptations!!! This was sort of my *holiday* visit with my sister, so it wasn't diet-style, for sure! Thursday night was fried catfish (heavenly), REAL cole slaw, cornbread sticks, and tiny little pastries (which I only had a few bites of!:^: ), wine, little bit of candy. That was going to be IT............ then Friday comes, we went out to lunch....... had my hot dog which was fine to have, but my sister had a yen for mozzarella sticks, and I managed to eat 1 - 1/2!!!:( My sister is going through terrible continuous pain after a knee replacement (3 mos. old.... do you know of anyone else's experience with one?), and we were definitely *comfort-eating.*

That wasn't too bad. What WAS bad:o was my nephew coming up last night and frying chicken, making gravy and wild rice, etc. It was wonderful, and I confess to eating a little too much of it. Don't think I gained any more, but certainly no loss. Back on program today, and will pray that I'm down to normal on Monday (back to 200, as I was on Dec. 26.) OKAY, that is IT until my Florida vacation in two weeks.

Kandice, you are beautiful in your latest picture. You're going to be a ravishing bride, and your fiancee will swoon as you start down that aisle!:D Glad that things are working out with your StepMom, and her attitude toward your weight loss. Feelings about loved ones' weight, compared to your own situation, etc.......... it all gets very complicated, and we have to be very patient with each other. Our society places WAY TOO MUCH emphasis on appearance and weight, and sometimes it makes people act in ways that are out of character for them, not so loving. Sounds like your Step Mom is bending over backwards to support you, and I'm so glad! I have some in my family who are envious when another family member begins succeeding at something that they haven't been able to!

Cole, glad that you are joining the gym. The best thing I've ever done for myself is joining the YMCA five months ago. I LOVE IT! Best money I have EVER spent!:) Good luck to you as you start your program there!

Florafae, I visualize and talk to myself a lot about what I AM going to accomplish. I think it really helps. It is good to imagine how well you're going to feel, what you're going to be able to do that you couldn't before, how much more confident you will be. I'm right there with you!:p

Personally, I think that water is water, whether you drink it straight, or make tea or coffee with it. I read an article in Ladies Home Journal or some such magazine recently that said that even caffeinated beverages act, for the most part, like plain water, and that people probably don't *need* as much water as they've been led to believe, in recent years, but that *extra* water will not harm you, you'll just run to the potty a lot!:D I don't know about the scientific *for sures* ........ but I like water/beverages/liquids A LOT because they are refreshing and filling, and a tall glass of Diet Coke or iced tea over crushed ice, OR a big mug of hot tea, with Splenda, has saved me from eating junk between meals MANY, MANY times, so I am a big water drinker, and beverage consumer, period.

Dena, you must feel like you're on another planet, with it snowing in Vegas!!! Try to enjoy it.......... it won't happen often. I LOVE snow myself, and am thrilled when we get it in Raleigh!

Dena, Kandice, SweetPea, Cole, DewCan, Florafae, dollar......... :grouphug: ..... I'm pulling for us all! Good luck with your exercise and eating this weekend. Hope we'll all have good news on Monday! (Going to run watch the golf tournament from Kapalua, Maui, on my new big-screen, high def TV. Wow, I LOVE Santa for this present!:D)

01-09-2005, 01:50 AM
Great to see you back! :) I'm glad your trip went well. Sounds like you had a great time, and that what life is all about. Sorry about your sister's pain. But congrats to you for your wonderful Christmas present!
Dena

Hi Gang
Just time for a "quicky". ;) I've had a good weekend. Still struggling to get my butt moving in the morning and motivated to work out. I seem to be really run down until late morning....ach-y even. By that time, my exercise "window" has passed and I am full-swing into my day. I'm thinking I may still be adjusting to the change in diet and my body is reacting (or retaliating!) Late this afternoon, I went for an hour walk and was happy to go and it felt very good. Sooooo, my goal this week is to really work on getting my workout done early.

**Dena...thanks for the info in the stretching tape...I will definitely check it out. I think something like that would help "loosen" me up in the morning so I can move on into a work out.

**Bonnie...yes, my mother had knee replacement two years ago and it was over a year before she was "painfree", although she still complains sometimes that it "bothers" her. She is 72. Still, it is not as bothersome as the pain she had BEFORE the replacement. And I do know several of her friends who have an knees, hips, shoulders replaced and have no complaints.

**Flora...what a good idea..."mind over matter", so to speak. Can you share with us some of your mantras??

**, I am south of Columbus. But we now are having terrible JANUARY!!!! School busses can't run and roads...heck, major highways, are closed everywhere. I think EVERY place in the USA is experiencing UNUSUAL January weather.

** Dollar?? Cole??? You still there?

01-10-2005, 12:45 AM
Hi all, hmmmm...flooding, doesn't sound like fun. Seen it, but never experienced it. But we do have a ton of snow, which is great, it feels like winter. But it's also bitterly cold which sucks (-30's, celcius). I guess I could say that it makes it feel like winter as well.
Okay, a gallon of fluid a day WOW. A few questions about that, are you on the can all day, how about at night. Do you make sure you drink all your fluids before a certain time so that you're not peeing all night? How about weigh day. How do you make sure that your'e not up 2 pounds because you jsut drank a liter of milk? :?: Just wondering. I think (or rather, know) that I often eat when I'm actually thirsty, maybe I should try what you do.
Okay Kandice, in that picture, you were in the white sweater? Okay the girl in the pic looks fantastic and doesn't need to lose any weight??? I'm a little confused:?:
Tomorrow is my weigh day, I exercised well and ate like a pig. :o I think it will show up. I've kept up with my exercise though, and I feel good about that.
Well, goodnight all

01-10-2005, 03:17 AM
okay, just finished biking. That's 9 days in a row of 1 hour of biking each day. And my situps, still doing well with those. Today was the first day since my New YEar's resolutions that I actually ate well :spin: starting is the hardest part, and now I've started. My fourth resolution was to drink more and really ahve to work harder on that.
well, it's after midnight and I'm tired, goodnight

Dew Can- Congrats on the biking! That's something I wish I could/ would do. I know alot of people set it for a goal when they lose weight to run the marathon or bike or something but I would too. I don't remember the last time I biked though. I was young. (when I was 8-9-10 years old, somewhere around there, the neighborhood boys said, "I didn't know Shamoo knew how to ride a bike" )
and  to your other post- about not needing to lose weight. thanks. My upper body has always been fine- I've been happy with it- My arms when I started exercising/ dieting were only 12.5 inches anyways and my waist was only 33 inches and My calves. I like my calves too- so knees down and waist up. what you can't see is the bum and thighs in that picture. They've come down a lot though. (lost 8.5 inches on each thigh)

I've going to Curves tonight (we're celebrating a birthday at work at lunch time so no curves lunch time :( ) I'll weigh in tonight too.

Movie review- we rented The Butterfly effect this weekend- it's been out for a while now but we hadn't rented movies in a long time. It was weird but GOOD! recommend it. and then I rented the terminal with tom hanks- it was cute. Chris didn't care for it though.

Have a great day everyone!

Hey, hey, hey~~it's weigh in day!

It's January 10. Ten days into the New Year. How are we doing so far this year? Are we sticking to our weightloss plans?

I'm happy to report that I have lost 4 1/2 inches. 3 1/2 inches in my waist, 1/2 inch around my bust and 1/2 around my thighs.

I'm proud to say that I've been eating right (around 1300 cals with no starchy/processed foods, exercise and 8-10 glasses of water. :)

OK, who's next?
Dena

01-10-2005, 01:51 PM
Dena, That's terrific! way to go! :cheer:

I'll post mine after 6 pm. My newest "worry" is that I'm not going to be able to stop losing weight when I reach goal. I didn't do very well this weekend, not nearly as much water as I should have, lots of fried foods, little debbie snack cakes invaded my house (Chris stopped at the discount bread store Friday evening) and no exercise since Friday afternoon, all that and I still was down 2 lbs this AM on the bathroom scale. Maybe it'll (the weight consequence) show up- I can't keep eating like that!

01-10-2005, 02:06 PM
Thank you, thank you very much! (Said in an Elvis style. Las Vegas, land of Elvis impersonators).

Good luck to you tonight!
Dena

Hi ladies, hope you're all having a good Monday! I have lost my second pound of the Christmas weight gain (4 lbs.) ......... still two to go. NOT back down to 200, as I'd hoped, but I'm not surprised, since I pigged out last Thursday and Friday!:( I have to really buckle down, as I have only 12 days to go before arriving in Florida!

Good luck with your weigh-ins, everybody!:)

01-10-2005, 05:48 PM
Hope all is going well. I had a new program loaded on my computer and, of course, it messed up almost everything else! Aauugghh! So, here I am. I haven't given up.

Well, no change in the scale today. But, I just started back and my TOM is next week so I'm not fretting. I'll just keep pushing through until I see a drop. I have been op all week and have met my exercise and water goals. I just have to keep hanging in there!

Dollar-welcome to the board. You'll find a lot of support and encouragement here. I know it's helped me a lot!

When do we weigh in? Is it every week, every other or what? I'm just not sure. Any help?

Sounds like everyone is doing well from what I've read.

01-10-2005, 07:19 PM
Skinny- every monday weigh in. Congrats on staying OP.

told you I'd post when I got back from Curves- I'm at 179- down 5 lbs from last week.

Got a sick "hubby", he came home from work today even- he never admits he's sick- so it's gotta be pretty bad... So I gotta go play nurse (and cook! :( ) tonight.

Have a great night!

01-10-2005, 07:31 PM
Skinny, dont' let it get to you. Scales are very moody. :p

Dena and Bonnie, keep up being losers

I was down 2.5 lbs. So I have 7.5 lbs to go for Valentines, and 5 weeks to do it. if I lose 1.5 a week, I'll get there. Now lets see if I can change the trackers in my signature.

01-10-2005, 07:34 PM
Kandice, you must have posted while I was typing.

Congrats!!!!!!! That's amazing!!!!!!! You're over half way to goal!!!!!!!! Wow, 5 pounds,'d you do it? You're such an inspiration. Just keep it going.

Thanks to all of you for your questions and concerns about the gym membership. Just to update you, after driving around for 30 minutes trying to find a place to park and talking to the over bearing sales guy, while noticing that there was not one piece of cardio machinery open, I decided against the whole gym membership. Mainly because they only offer contracted memberships and I do not know where my job will lead me in the next few months. (that's a whole other story :dizzy: ) Needless to say, my life is a little crazy right now. However, I will manage to rush home every day from work to walk the pup. We walked around Stone Mountain on Saturday and Sunday (5 miles around!!!) I wish I could do that every day, but there just are not enough day light hours. Can't wait until day light savings time.

So, my TOM came this past week and I was unsuccesful in losing any weight (probably in part to the chocolate attack I had, I wonder why?) However, I did maintain, which I guess is good. I am kind of discouraged, but I know that I just need to keep on with my points and I will be able to do this! I am so proud of all of you who lost, esp. Kandice-what a great job you are doing-5 pounds? I can only wish for that much of a loss, you are all such an inspiration to me to keep truckin'

DewCan~you are doing such a great job with your biking! Only 7.5 more pounds to go, I know that weight will literally fall off the way you are going!!!

Skinny butt~I am in the same boat as you with the TOM thing, hopefully yours will go better than mine with the whole weight thing. I don't know why, but I always make that week an excuse to eat bad. I hope that you have more will power than me. We will have to encourage each other to keep up the excercise and points! I am going to start going to the meetings with a friend from work. I know this will keep my butt in line, being held accountable to more people than just myself.

Kandice~again, I am so proud of you! Congrats on your loss!!! Good luck with the whole sick hubby thing, that will not be fun :^: Try to disinfect the house so that you will stay healthy! Keep up your hard work, it is obviously paying off! I also meant to post about the whole relative thing, it is really hard when people around you are not supportive or when they say, "what will this one time hurt"? It is like I have to explain to them why I am trying to be healthy and then they just look down at you. Shouldn't they be happy that you are making this change to your lifestyle? I am glad that the step-mom visit went smoothly for you, mabey she is finally accepting your lifestyle change!

Dena~Congrats to you, too!!! You are doing such a good job. It seems like you are really on track. I know that you will have no problem meeting your goals!

tobaccygirl~Florida? That sounds so wonderful. Where exactly are you going in Florida? You will do fine, just stay on your plan and we will all be here for support!

Hello to anyone else I missed on this post. Hope that everyone is doing well towards reaching their goals. I am so glad we have such a good little group going here. Thank you to all of you for your kind words of encouragement, I really appreciate it!

Sorry so long, I had a lot of catching up to do! Good nite, see you ladies tommorrow!

How do I drink a gallon of water a day? Well, I have a one quart Rubbermaid bottle and I put 4 heavy duty rubber bands around it. I make sure I drink one bottle before 9, one before noon, one before 3, and one before 6. If I get to my time marker and the bottle isn't finished...I guzzle it. I just carry the bottle around all day and sip. And, when I finish a quart, I remove a rubber band, which helps me keep track. As far as running to the potty...yes, I do do that alot during the day...but sometimes it is the only time of my busy days that I get to SIT DOWN! SInce I don't drink after 6, I am usually "well flushed" before bedtime. By the way...I only make no less than 2, but no more than 3 of the quarts pure water...the last one can be green tea or sugar free lemonade, etc. I drink this amount for no better reason than to just keep myself feeling full. Seems to work:
I've lost 7 pounds since January 1. (and not ALL fluids...har har)

Sweetpea :^:

01-11-2005, 04:54 AM
Just wanted to congratulate Bonnie, Kandice, and Dew (and me) for being our big losers this week! And congrats to everyone else, too. This week wasn't easy~~trying to change our habits from eating Christmas goodies to training our bodies that this is now a new year and new way of eating. :)

Sweet Pea, thanks for the water explanation. By the way, how did the scale treat you this week? The author of Body Flex is Greer Childers. You can find info on the internet.

Cole, sorry about you gym membership experience. I understand what you're going through. I have been scoping out various gyms I wanted to try, and they all have that 2 year membership, drawing out of your account monthly. There's no way I'm giving my bank account number to these people, so they can take money out. I've heard too many horror stories.

Skinny, sorry about your computer problems. We weigh and/or measure on Mondays. Good luck next Monday. :) Not many weeks left until Valentine's Day... the final goal date.

Flora, how are you doing this week?

Hope I didn't forget anyone.
Dena

01-11-2005, 09:40 AM
diana- 2 weeks ago- the week after Christmas I ate and ate and ate and then last week I went back to phase 1 of my low carb. no more than 20 carbs a day. That's how it came off. I'm on phase 2 again this week (40- 60 carbs) so I assume it'll slow down next week. YUP- half way to goal! The number doesn't look so bad now... actually looks attainable.

Cole- thanks for updating us on the gym membership. Is there any curves near you? They let you cancel your membership if you move 25 miles or more away.

Dena- I have heard horror stories too. actually a year or so ago I had my credit card number stolen. (I still had my credit card in my possession) Charged almost 4k on it. What a pain it was to get it all taken care of! I was going to Bermuda on vacation and wanted to charge my airline tickets and didn't have enough because the theif put me close to max. Fortunately they reversed all the charges- after a million papers for me to sign and a new credit card.
I did authorize Curves to take out of my checking for 12 months, but they're the only ones. No problems with them.

01-11-2005, 10:30 AM
Good day everyone - Well I'm down 2 lbs this week which makes me feel great, so in actual fact I'm done 7lbs since Dec 26 but I'm only really counting from when I joined in here. I have been a little frustrated about not getting to the gym as much as I would like. My husband and I went last night at 830 and the place was so crowded we couldn't get on the equipement. I forgot how bad it is at this time of year with all the new members but that usaully only lasts for the month of Jan and then they stop coming, I think someone gives them a 1 month pass for Christmas and then they don't join up and stop coming. So my plan was to go today during the day since it is my day off, yeah well not going to happen the car wouldn't start this morning so it is now in the shop. I guess I just wasn't meant to go but I guess that is ok because my son just came home from school sick he was only there about 15 min, the stomache flu is making it's rounds up here again, it is that time of year. At least we made it through the holidays without getting it.
So I will try the gym again tonight and see if we can go but I will call ahead first before driving down there because it is in the next town.
Hope everyone has a great week and I will check in often.

01-11-2005, 10:38 AM
Good Morning, everyone.

Kandice~yes, there is a curves close to me. Have you been pretty happy with them? What is your plan/montly dues, if you don't mind me asking. I have heard a lot of good things about curves, but never checked it out. I liked what you said the other day about the 30 minutes of excercise only being a small percentage of your day, I owe myself at least that much! How is your hubby feeling?

Dena~I know what you mean about the credit card scams, my sister had her check card number stolen twice. I have a problem trusting people with my life when it comes to my finances! I can't believe they charged 4K on Kandice's card-scary!!!

Hope that everyone is having a great day. I stayed OP last nite and am doing great so far today. Talk to you all later :D

01-11-2005, 11:39 AM
Hi Everybody!!

I joined this group yesterday and am happy to report that I have lost 2 more pounds!! Sure, it could be just water, but I am hoping that the scale says the same thing tomorrow or less. Woo hoo!!

My food is going ok, not perfect, but I am avoiding sugar and foods that cause me to binge.

My bf text-messaged me yesterday and was very sweet and kind. He is a very supportive guy---has never said anything negative about my weight.

I am hoping to get into a size 16 or smaller dress for a formal next month. Wish me luck!

I really appreciate all of your support and encouragement!!!

01-11-2005, 01:23 PM
Good Morning, Everyone!

First of all, I want to welcome Snoopychick! And congrats to you for losing 2 pounds. Good for you for cutting out sugar. You will fit into that size 16 dress by Valentine's Day if you continue to eat right, exercise for 30 minutes a day (walking is good) and drink 8 glasses of water. It's so great that you have a caring and supportive boyfriend. Good luck to you, and we hope you will post often and weigh in with us on Monday. We're rooting for you!

Cole, good luck with finding a good gym! Congrats for staying OP last night! Keep up the good work today!

dollar, congrats to you for losing 2 lbs! Sounds like it hasn't been easy, especially with that crowded gym. They are super crowded here, too. Plus some of them have weird hours. I decided to research a new place, called "Workout Express" on my lunch break, and it was closed! (They must be making lots of money to be open a few hours in the morning and a few at night.) So sorry about your car and son being sick. Take care of yourself.

Kandice, wow, what a hassle! Your credit card stolen? 4K charged on it, too? I'm so glad you got it all straightened out. And keep up the great work, my friend. :)

Time for me to exercise~~
Dena

01-11-2005, 03:54 PM
Cole- go check it out (Curves) they usually show you the machines and you do a couple to show you how anyone can do them. When I signed up I was one of the first 100 people at my location so they knocked off $100 off the sign up fee (usual $149) and then it's $29 a month but you can go as much as you'd like- 6x a week if you want. so like $1 per workout. My curves has promotions all the time. We had one not too long ago- Nov? for breast cancer- if you showed proof of your physical or mammogram in the past year- no sign up charge, then in Dec they wanted to get to 500 members- we had 460ish and they were offerring no sign up fee. in September they had a special for teachers...

I've been very happy with them and obviously seen results- 20 lbs and 44 inches from June 30, 2004- December 22, 2004.

Chris isn't feeling good still- but he went to work today- poor guy. I bet I'll have to cook tonight too! I hate cooking! we have a deal- whoever gets home first cooks- so it's usually him- he gets off work at 2pm... I felt sick this AM all stuffy and everything and still tired and sore even now, hope I'm not coming down with it too!

snoopy- welcome! Congrats on losing! Tell you a secret that helped me- go buy a dress now- not something real expensive just in case- but definietly a nice dress. I have a size 8 dress hanging on the front of my closet because that's the size I want to be. I bought it off a girl on for $20. Chris, my fiance, has agreed to take me out someplace special for a celebration- probably dinner and dancing. set your goal now with your bf and hold him to it! Good luck!

01-11-2005, 05:36 PM
Good Afternoon,

Congratulations to all of you who had good weigh-ins! Thatís the way to start the new year.

Sorry to have been out of the loop for so long. I live in Southern California, and Iíve been dealing with (and continue to deal with) the fallout from the incredible rainstorm weíve been having. In my area, weíve had almost 12 inches of rain in four days. We are currently 360% over our annual rainfall average, and itís only January. Though the electricity has never gone off completely, it flickers all the time, so Iíve been reluctant to turn on the computer.

My older son was evacuated from his house and is staying with us. Many, many roads are closed throughout our area, and lots of businesses are running on a skeleton crew, because employees canít make it to work. Our house is fine, but the yard is a swamp and the far end of the patio is under water. (Luckily, itís sloped correctly.) Right now itís sunny out for the first time in six days, but thereís more rain forecast for this afternoon. Things are supposed to clear up tomorrow, thank goodness.

As you can probably guess, I have found it impossible to think about eating correctly during all this. I did manage to weigh myself yesterday, and I was happy to discover that I had at least maintained and not gained anything. Iím hoping things will start to get back to normal in the next day or two, and that I can report a weight loss next Monday.

And thatís the news from soggy Southern California.

01-11-2005, 08:40 PM
Hi this the thread for if I joined the valentine challenge in the buddy forum? I hope so, but if not let me know

I am setting my goal at losing 10 pounds by Valentines. I need to lose 40 pounds total to be at a size that is good for me and I think that short term goals is good.

01-12-2005, 10:04 AM
Hello, Ladies. Hope that everyone had a happy and healthy night. I stayed OP during the day, managed to talk some girls in the office into walking during our lunch (we have great sidewalks around the office park and the weather was perfect) and walked the pup when I got home from work. So, I am feeling pretty positive today! How is everyone else doing with their goals?

Kandice~Thanks so much for the information. I went on the web site yesterday to see if they had any specials posted, but I will def. go and check it out this weekend. That is so funny about the cooking, I hate to cook and am not very good at it! The best things that I can make are on the George Foreman, how much easier can it get? Hopefully Chris is feeling better today, do you still have the sniffles?

Welcome to snoopy and knsj!!! Snoopy, a loss already? You are on the right track, keep up the good work. It is always better when you have someone there to help you along the way. My bf is opposite, he is over 6 ft. and can eat whatever he wants to stay his size, must be nice. That is actually part of my weight gain, after a year and a half together I'm like, ok I can not eat like you, I will gain 50 pounds. He says he loves me no matter what, but I still see the looks he gives those skinny girls, ya know? OK, getting off of my soap box now. Good luck to you !

Florafae~glad to have you back with us. I have seen pictures of those mudslides/flooding and it all looks very scary. So sorry that you are having to go thru this, but just remember: "If God brings you to it, he will bring you thru it". Hopefully things will start to clear up over there and everyone can get back to normal.

On the water note that everyone was discussing earlier, I have one of those 32 oz. thermos water bottles that I keep at my desk. I chug it all day long, I probably drink 5 or 6 of them a day, when it is sitting there in front of you, it forces you to drink it! Another trick I use when I get bored of water is to add a little bit of equal or crystal light (the powdered kind-one tub can last you a week, if you use it sparingly).

Well, I hope that everyone has a great day! Keep up the good work... :strong:

01-12-2005, 10:09 AM
Kandice~ I meant to tell you, you should do sales for Curves, with your percentage of the day to work out and $1 a day for 6 days a week. You really put things into perspective. This whole weight loss thing is as much a mind game as it is a food game and I appreciate your view on things!

01-12-2005, 10:10 AM
Hey there girls, so proud of your progress............ dollar, Kandice, Dena, DewCan, snoopychick ........... (if I forget anybody, I am so sorry! :^: What a LARGE, wonderful and supportive crew we have here! :) ) To those of you who have stubborn scales this week, hang in there. It WILL drop.... my pattern is, holding for over two weeks or more, then I will lose 2 to 3 lbs. over 2 or 3 days. Strange!:o :dizzy:

I know our official weigh-in is on Mondays. I weigh every day, even though I know better (it depresses me a little!:(). I still have two more pounds of Christmas weight to go......... 10 days before I arrive in Florida. I hope I'm building some Popeye muscles that are going to pop out, and that's why my loss is so slow!

I did weights and biking on Sunday, water aerobics on Monday, then weights and biking again last night, will be back in the water tonight, weights & biking tomorrow night, water aerobics on Friday morning, weights & bike on Sunday, water Monday, weights & bike next Tuesday and Thursday, water aerobics next Wednesday and Friday............ trying to burn a ZILLION calories before leaving for Florida for nine days. I'm honest.... I know myself. I will not be as strict as I should be on vacation, even though I will not pig out. If I just don't gain...........:^:

Florafae, my thoughts and prayers are with you in California. I hope that you and yours will be very safe and sound out there. It isn't a time when you can worry about your diet, for sure. ((((((Florafae))))))))) Stay safe!

Kandice, hope that you are not catching Chris's bug! That stomach bug has just taken over my Mom's nursing home.

I must get to Costco and BJ's this morning so must get off here. Costco has Speedo swimsuits ($75 one) for $19.99, in case anyone is looking.

Everyone, have a wonderful day! :grouphug: Good luck with your eating and moving!:)

01-12-2005, 10:14 AM
Knsj and Snoopy, BIG WELCOME to the group! I forgot to say that in my post above. We are really happy to have you. Dena has done a good thing, starting this group! :-)

01-12-2005, 10:48 AM
Welcome knsj! You'll like it here- we have a good group. Dena started the group for a christmas challenge and started the valentinies this time. It's helped alot!

Cole- Chris still has the sniffles but is acting a lot better today. Yesterday he called a little after lunch and I thought he was going home sick again- he said he didn't have any choice but to go home- his company had a fire yesterday around 12. they were sending everyone home. started in the paint area too (where he works- he's a painter) so I doubt they'll "work" today- probably clean up a bunch of stuff if they're done the investigation. He said work was slow so they shut everything off in the bottom paint area at 8:30 and that's where it started- so no clue how or anything. He was lucky- he said no one wants to paint in the bottom- probably would have smoked him out too- he's lucky he was on lunch break outside!

Cole- about the curves sales- $1 a day to exercise or 60 cents for a candy bar... that's the way I htink about it at least- a candy bar will last for a few seconds, but the satisfaction of knowing you exercised and making a permanent results- is well, permanent.

actually Chris and I have been talking more about it recently. we both want to own our own business some day but can't agree on what. Curves recently discontinued allowing member's children into the facility and people have been complaining. I thought about opening a "curves kids" for the parents to drop off their kids for 30 minutes- and there's an open office space right next door. but I'm not a certified day care provider or anything. and how much would I charge? I could get some kids exercise mats- hopscotch, things like that, have an age area- like a preteen place- some magazines or things like that, and then a baby with some playpens... and then another idea is "Cuts" (curves for men). There's only 14 franchises of cuts in the US. we could open one next to curves and then men could go to theirs. I really believe in Curves- because I've seen firsthand. I know there are alot of people that say they didn't get anything out of it, but I'm only doing curves and have amazing results.

Flora- It definitely makes the news more real when there's someone you "know" involved- thoughts and prayers are with you to get through!

Bonnie- good deal on swimsuits! thanks! we're going in March and need swimsuits. I bought one at JCP- and it was too much but I really liked it so I got it. my first bikini and then a skirt to go with it. it was right around $90 for 3 pieces- too much. oh well, it's our honeymoon. Ps. I weigh everyday too- I have a history of staying the same for 4-5 days, or bouncing up and down, 174, 175, 173, 174, 173, 174... and then it'll drop a couple lbs at once and I'll bounce along at that. I had a new low (this is on my bathroom scale naked) of 174 on Sunday and then I was at 173 today- my new low. :D

Have a great Wednesday everyone!

01-12-2005, 11:03 AM
Congrats to all the losers in our bunch! :D This is one time I'm sure they don't mind being called a loser! hee, hee.

Knsj and Snoopy-welcome, welcome, welcome. You are at the right place for help and encouragement. The posts on this site have kept me going more than once. Hope you draw strength from knowing you're not alone!

Florafae-Wow! Please know that your family and you are in my thoughts and prayers. Stay safe and keep us updated. Did you sons home have much damage or was he evacuated as a precaution?

Bonnie-you're really working, it girl! Congrats on all the exercise. :cp: you'll have to walk the shore line for your exercise while on vacation!

Kandice-I also hope you're not catching the bug! Also, a new low-congrats. You're really doing well. :cb: I like you're idea about the day care. My DH and I are in the same predicament-we'd love to run our own business-after we get out of debt at the end of the year-but are still sifting through ideas.

Cole63-thanks for your words of encouragement w/WW and staying OP. How are you doing? I've been OP all week except for yesterday when I used 2.5 FP. I'd like to go to meetings but DH is unemployed right now so I'll have to wait. Hold my feet to the fire! :D

As I told Cole63, I've done well w/my points this week. Also, meeting my goals for water and exercise. Here's my exercise for this week:
Sat-walked 5 miles
Sunday-stretching video-believe me, I needed it! sore muscles!
Mon-walked 5 miles
Tues-walked 5 miles

I usually take Weds/Sun off as I'm busy w/church-family activities.

I'm going to my sister's this weekend. Just me. No kids, no DH, no pet, no responsibilities. She provided a place of refuge many times while I was a single parent. Things have been pretty heavy at my house for a couple months so she's going to pamper me. She's already told me I get breakfast in bed. Yeah!

Well, gotta run. Hope everyone has a great health day. Thanks for all the encouragement and support you offer. It means more than you know. :grouphug:

01-12-2005, 12:55 PM
Wow Ladies Thanks so much for the big welcome!

Well I have been sick for the past couple days since signing up for the challenge so I have eaten little and not done any real exercises that induces weight loss. Hopefully I am over that in a couple days and I can get back in my groove.

01-12-2005, 01:04 PM
Morning Ladies!

I'm a bit under the weather this morning, so I'll make this kinda brief. I ate my breakfast, then promptly threw up, so I'm not sure if I have a bug or upset stomach. But I did enjoy reading all of these latest messages! You guys really make my day. Oh, and thank you, Bonnie and Kandice, for your nice words regarding starting our little group. We do have a great group here!

Flora, I'm so sorry for what you are going through. I'm a Southern CA girl (recently moved to Vegas) and am glued to the TV, watching my beautiful home state fall apart. I feel so bad you are going through such a mess. But I know Californians, and things will be up and running more beautiful than ever when everything calms down again. These last few years have been crazy with the fires, earthquakes and mudslides. My prayers are with you.

Krisj, welcome! We have very supportive and inpiring people in our group. Oh, no, you're not feeling well either? I'm sorry to hear that. Feel better soon. Good luck to you!

OK, gals, I'm trying to figure out if I should go back to bed or get going. :(
I hate being sick. I like being active, so I'm trying to convince myself I'm OK.

skinny- congrats on walking every day! Have a great time at your sister's!
I know what you mean about wednesdays/ sundays= church. I didn't have any motivation to go to Curves today at lunch (I did end up going though) but thought to myself I couldn't go tonight because church and I always get upset at myself when I don't go... (because the 2% of the day  Cole)

Cole- I signed up a woman in Purchasing today. I saw her in the mail room last week and I saw her today too and she stopped me and asked what I was doing and I told her. She signed up at lunch time! YAY!

01-12-2005, 03:10 PM
Cole, sorry!:( I forgot to answer your question the other day about Florida. We are going to Ocala (horse country) in Central Fla. for six nights, then on to St. Petersburg for 2 to 3 days. We have never been to Fla. (Isn't that silly? I have been to Hawaii about five times but never been to Fla!!!:o ) We are really looking forward to it. Our old doggie can go with us so he's happy. My sister (knee replacement) is going to be in The Villages (right beside Ocala) for three months in a condo........ arriving today, and my niece lives in St. Pete. We'll be in a hotel in Ocala, then stay with my niece. The only bad thing is that my sister and I are not good dieters when we're together, but I definitely won't pig out, probably maintain hopefully! There will be pools everywhere we are, and I'll do some walking...........:)

Kandice, isn't it great to influence someone to do something that you know will improve their lives! Way to go.........:)

Dena, do hope you're not getting a bug. Hope you feel better and can get out of the house!

Skinny, have fun with your sister! I'm so happy for you that you are getting a break!:p

Later, ladies..........

01-12-2005, 05:36 PM
Hi ladies, wow, ti's cold here today. This morning I went out to an appointment and I heard on the radio that it was -37C (for you American girls, that's pretty close to -37F). Oh plus there was wind, almost froze me in my tracks.

Cole, about the gym, it's usually the contract at the gym what gets you. I'm glad you didn't get pressured into it.

Dollar and Snoopy, congrats on being down!! Isn't it a good feeling.

Florafae, I was wondering if anyone here was from California, it didn't look to good on the news. Quite scary in fact. I hope all goes well and that drier weather is headed your way.

Tobaccy, wow, you are really into the exercise!

Okay, to all the ladies who are under the weather, please get well. Drink some tea, and have a nap.

01-13-2005, 12:08 AM
DewCan, I don't usually exercise every day but I'm trying to do it the next week and a half before I leave for vacation, although, really it would be good for me to exercise every day in some way. My minimum is 3 times in the water/ 2 times in the weight room per week. I know that I will not be very strict on my diet for my 10 day vacation........... I know me, and I won't be:(......... so I'm trying to get ahead of the game!:dizzy:

Hope everybody has had a good day! Will my scale drop tomorrow?:?: I doubt it............ but hope springs eternal!:D

01-13-2005, 10:18 AM
:coffee: Good Morning to all of the Valentinies!!! Hope everyone had a good nite. I stayed OP, walked with the girls at lunch, and walked/ran with the pup when I got home. (this is becoming my daily regimen) Eventually I will add more-I am going to check out Curves this weekend (Kandice :) ) and I may pick up that Leslie Sanson tape, "walk away the pounds", I have heard really good things about it. I could do that on rainy days and when I don't feel like leaving the house.

tobaccygirl~you are doing such a great job with your schedule, keep up the good work and you know you will see results on that scale! Florida sounds like it will be a great time for you. However, it will not even be able to compare to Hawaii (6 times? I have never been there) That is where I want to go on my honeymoon, of course I would have to get married first and of course I would have to get a ring before that-tisk..tisk. Oh well, have fun at the beach for the rest of us :p

KandiceA~you are cracking me up with all of your motivators  , but they really do work, so I appreciate that extra little kick in the butt! That is so scary about Chris's work, I am sure that you are happy that he was not in the building at the time. I am so glad to hear that he is ok and even got an extra day off of work, hopefully he took that time to rest up and get well! I think that your business ventures sound like a great idea. You really have some great aspirations, you should follow thru with them. I think the day care idea is really good, no parent likes to feel guilty about leaving their kids with strangers while they are working out and the approach that you are taking with that sounds like it would work. There is a "little gym" in my area for kids to go and play basically, but it is like a workout gym for kids. It seems to have really taken off, you should def. look into your idea, I think it has great potential! So, now you've got people jumping on that Curves train with you, what a motivator you are!!! I am telling you, you were born to do sales and I am sure you get a great feeling from helping someone, esp. helping them to be healthy and happy-YOU GO GIRL!!! ;)

Skinny butt~Good job to you for staying OP! :cb: I have also managed to stay OP for the most part. I actually have never been to a meeting, I got the points book from a friend and started following it over the summer, I walked 2 miles every morning and stayed OP, I lost 12 pounds, but gained it back once I started working in an office and couldn't get my walk in and ate too much "office food" (cookies, cakes, candy, etc). I have been trying to keep up with my points, but I think going to the meeting will help me stay accountable for what I do during the week. So, me and a co-worker (who has lost 25 pounds w/WW) are going to a meeting tonite-wish me luck! I will tell you how it goes! Have fun at your sisters this weekend, you need some good R and R!

knsj and Dena~Hope you both are feeling better, I know there is a stomach flu thing and a cold flu thing going around. I had the cold flu, stayed in bed for an entire day to get rid of it! Try to take care of yourselves, get some sleep and drink some green tea (that always helps me)!

DewCan~Oh my, I would absolutely freeze there, it has been in the 60's here all week, but they say a cold front is coming in-yuck. I swear, I could live in a trailer on the beach and be perfectly content! Try and stay warm over there :(

Off to my first WW meeting tonite! I am so proud of our little group we have going here! I look forward to talking to all of you every day :D !!! Have a great day.

01-13-2005, 11:22 AM
:coffee: Good morning, all you fair ladies! How are you today? I just came back from a "non-food" treat to myself. Had my eyebrows waxed for the first time in my 60 years!!!:o Didn't even scream or curse either! (The technician said that happens with bikini waxes, tho!:D )

Cole, I'm so happy that you're going to do a WW meeting tonight. Though I am counting calories on my own, I did try WW a couple of times years ago when I just wasn't ready to stick with it. I think it's the BEST way to go, if you don't want to do it on your own. To me, it's just a real healthy way of eating with great group support, didn't seem too much like a strict diet. I'm just too stingy to pay the WW fee every week if I can manage to do it with my buddy and my YMCA activities. My neighbor and I go to the Y together :) so I have support from her, which really helps.

I have been to Hawaii 4 times (but you must remember that I am old as dirt!) The first time was my 20th wedding anniversary, then a few more times after that. It is a glorious place, and we would use FF Miles on American to go now, BUT we won't leave our 15 year old pooch with hardly anyone (yes, yes, I know..... we're nuts!:p ) But we will go back when we don't have our sweetie anymore! Everybody needs to go to Hawaii at least once!

Knsj and Dena, sure hope you ladies are feeling better, and, Kandice, hope your Chris is back in the pink!

DewCan, would love to live where it's cold the majority of the time!!!! And here I am in Raleigh................:^:

Have a good day, all! :grouphug:

01-13-2005, 12:19 PM
Good Morning, Everyone!

I'm still under the weather, but I just wanted to drop in and see how everyone is doing. This is such an exciting thread!

Cole, good for you for joining WW. I've been to the meetings, and actually got to my goal weight, so I know it works. (Since then I've gained back about 14 lbs., but at least I kept the other 31 off.) Plus going with a friend is great. You two can support each other while learning what to do. I know you'll get to your goal. You have to tell us about the different plans these days. I'll be rooting for you! :)

Bonnie, I love your exercises. You inspire me! Exercise is the best medicine for staying young and feeling great. As soon as I'm outta this bed (threw up again this morning,) I'm finding me a gym that I like. You are right... Hawaii is heavenly. I've been there four times. And no you are not nuts about leaviang your pooch. I feel the same way.

Kandice, keep up the great work. I love your ideas. I think there are franchises you can look into. I know there is one called "Little Gym." Good luck to you.

Well, it's time for me to stop typing.
Dena

01-13-2005, 01:11 PM
How's everyone doing today? Things here are good. I was OP yesterday and met my water goals. No exercise b/c church-unless, of course, you count rushing around from work to home to grab a bite to eat, then to the church to drive the van route and then to the hospital to donate blood as exercise! If that counts, I got quite a workout! :D When I put in my 3 mile (at least) walk tonight, it will give me 22 miles for this week. woo-hoo!

dena and knsj-hope you're feeling better soon!

Bonnie-would you soak up some sun for me when you go to FL? I have some friends who just moved to St. Pete and they really like it there. Since you're going to horse country may I assume that you have a love of horses? I have a friend at church who plans all her vacations are horse trails! :)

dewcan- -37? Sheeze. I'd be happy w/some snow-it's 56 here-but I don't think I want it that cold! brrrr I just want enough snow to make some snow cream! We are having what I refer to as an "eeyore" day-just a little gloomy.

Cole63-So how did the meeting go? Sounds like you have a pretty good routine going w/your exercise. I will be glad when my living room becomes available again (adult son sleeping on couch!) so I can incorporate my stretching and aerobics back into my morning routine. Oh, I did eat a couple fig newtons last night but only after I donated blood. I figure if you donate blood you surely deserve a cookie! ;)

Kandice-so glad Chris is safe! How scary. He must have an angel-in addition to you ;) -watching over him! Glad all is well. Oh, forgot to tell you thanks for informing about the weigh in date. Sometimes, I'd forget my head if it wasn't attached! Congrats on getting others interested in being healthy! It's a wonderful feeling. I love to watch my DD's reading food labels and making healthy food choices. I also like it when people notice that my eating habits have changed. It opens the door to building up a healthy lifestyle. Believe me, if they open the door for a discussion, I'm going right in. Actually, I have been known to open the door myself! :D

Don't you just love this place? I know I do. I'm enjoying getting to know everyone and share in your successes. Truly an inspirational group of ladies! Keep up the good work! Talk to ya later.

01-13-2005, 03:45 PM
Howdy everyone,

Well, the storm has passed, and things are beginning to dry out a little. :sunny: My sonís house survived unscathed, and the evacuation order was finally lifted yesterday. He rents the place with a bunch of roomies, and they were all very glad to find things safe and sound when they returned. When the order to evacuate came (the police came knocking door-to-door), they were told to get out RIGHT NOW. They only had time to grab their backpacks and hop in their cars. The house is located at the base of a mountain and right across the street from a creek. There was imminent danger of slides and flooding. Luckily, all turned out well. :)

Slowly, but surely, Iím getting back on track diet-wise. Iíve been looking into other ways of getting a low-impact aerobic workout, besides using my stationary bike. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about a three-wheeled scooter called a Trikke. Itís propelled by putting weight on one leg and then the other, like skating or skiing. There was an article about it in the ďfitnessĒ section of the paper. It looked like something I might actually enjoy doing, but so many of these things are just a bunch of hype. Has anybody tried one?

Wishing all of you a good Thursday,

01-13-2005, 04:17 PM
Hi, my name is Amy and I am new to 3FC. This is my first post. I was hoping to join you because my first mini-goal is set for Valentines day. I am 28 years old and have four beautiful (from a non-biased opinion, of course ;) ) children ages 7, 5, 3, and 1. All those pregnancies have really gotten my weight up. I weighed 125 when I got pregant with number 1 and I now weigh 192. Sigh. So, my first mini-goal is to lose 10 pounds by Valentines Day. That would be 2 pounds a week. I am limiting my calories to 1500-1600 a day and exercising at least 30 minutes six times a week. My overall goal is to lose 50 pounds by September 1. Ideally, I would like to get down to 125 again, but I am going to settle for 140 for now. DH and I want to have another baby (oh, dear) and would like to get pregnant around September. For that reason, I need to stop trying to lose then (140 is considered a "healthy" weight for my height), although I will also try to be VERY diligant during pregnancy. Any advice would be great. I am only on day two of my new goal, and yesterday I struggled with cravings SO MUCH! I made it, but I was discouraged that I was already struggling and it was only day ONE!!!

I do great in the morning and early afternoon, but late afternoon and evening KILL me. That is when all my cravings seem to kick in and I can barely restrain myself from driving to the gas station and just buying SOMETHING, lol. Any advice? I removed all the treats from the house (and DH's coworkers are all cursing me because they're eating all of it now) and that helps a lot.

Anyway, hope it's not too late to join your Valentine's Day challenge.

Hi gang.
I have been so much out of the loop!!! Son #1 has monopolized the computer all week, working on a science project til the wee hours. But, I have certainly missed logging in and being a part of the group. I have been doing really well on my program. The diet part has not been the problem...I was struggling with the exercise part. But I did learn something about myself early this week..I learned that if I didn't do it first thing in the morning, I put it off and put it off...then I felt guilty, which made me depressed...then I'd have to fight against the hungries a lot harder. SOOOOO, I have been laying out my gym clothes the night before right next to the bed. Just as soon as hubby walks out the door and the school bus pulls away...I hit the treadmill. Today, it was oddly warm (62 F) so I actually DROVE 10 miles to the school track and walk 3 miles on it. Today...more rain, more flooding and temp dropping to the teens.
Sounds like everyone is doing well and I am so proud of our group. I really enjoy all the hints that we are sharing. And it's really encouraging to know that there are a lot of people out there taking charge (and falling down once in a while) and making changes to their lives for the better. I hope to regain the use of MY computer after the weekend so I can go back to replying to all my friends here. Bare with me. Thanks.

SkinnyButt, it's actually my great-niece who is the horse person. She rents a horse-boarding/training farm in Ocala, and is a trainer and masseuse (to horses!) It just so happens that my sister is wintering at The Villages, which is right next door to her, so to speak. I do love to see my niece perform in shows, doing jumps, dressage, etc. She is totally besotted with the horse life, as all horsey people are!:D And I sure will soak up some sun for you, just pray that I don't overdo it and burn!

Welcome to the group, Amy. I think you have set a reasonable goal for Valentine's Day, and I think your calorie count is healthy, and you won't starve on that amount. That's what I try to stay at........... I'm 5' 10" and simply cannot exist on 1200 cals. a day as many diets recommend!!! If you can find an exercise that you love, then you'll do it, and that will help with your weight loss enormously. I wish you the very best on your journey, and we are happy to have you in this great little group of ours.:)

Florafae, so glad all is well with you and your son. What a terrible mess you've had/have out there. My heart goes out to those who have lost so much!

SweetPea, so happy to see you on here, and hear that you've been doing so well. I am proud of you!

Dena, sorry to hear you're still on the *icky* side with your tummy. Hope it clears up, and you feel much better soon.

To everybody........ have a good evening. Tonight I will be biking and lifting weights......... no rest for the Valentinies!!!!:dizzy:

01-13-2005, 09:00 PM
Hello to all well it took me some time to find you guys again Well I have been trying real hard and doing not to bad well as I said I gain 10lbs but I am not saying any thing for the Valentine challenge just that I am staying on plan and doing as much walking as I can last week from Jan 1 to 8th I lost 2 lbs and waked 11 miles and this week so far doing not doing bad I will weigh again on monday so jan.1 I was 185 then 183 so need to lose 7 more to get back where I was be for christmas Bonnie so nice to see you are still here and Den@ good luck to all the new ones Jean

01-13-2005, 09:59 PM
Hey there Jean............:) How great to see you again! I'm sorry you had a hard time finding us, but glad that you are with us now. Sounds like you have started off doing really well, and I'm betting you will keep it up! I'm sure you've read above that I'm trying to get my Christmas pounds off. Two to go before I am back to 34 pounds off as I was Dec. 26. I hope that your holiday season was really enjoyable! Mine was great, with my granddaughter here, and you just can't beat that!:)

I will look forward to hearing how you've done on Monday, and hope that I will have some good news for you (and all these terrific ladies in this group!) Have a good evening!

01-14-2005, 03:48 AM
Cole, happy for youthat you're going to WW. There was a thing on the news that said that WW was the best one for success and keeping it there.

Oh, Bonnie, you make me laugh with you saying you're "as old as dirt". I appreciate your humour.

Florafae, glad all is improving there. Oh, and I've never heard of the trikke. Sounds interesting.

Skinny, that's a wonderful thing to do, donate blood. I'd do it but, I'm one of those people that are 'not wanted'. :(

amy, welcome here. I struggle with the same issues. Some people find it helps them to make a menu for the day in the morning and it helps them stick with it. Just a thought. Hmmm...another baby, sounds rather busy, but fun. ;)

Congrats on the 2 pound loss, Jean :spin:

Okay, still freakishly cold here. This is unusually cold, even if January is most often a cold month. Today it was in the -40's, plus wind, so an unbelieveable windchill. I went out at noon and it was still -40 :dizzy: Anyways, I'm sticking with my daily biking and situps, and today I had a good eating day. These good days are very few and far between. It's an addiction, seriously. I sit here and fight myself to not go and eat. It's not htat I'm hungry, sometimes I don't even like what I'm eating, but I just have to do it. I wonder if there's a Zyban for dieters  A friend of mine who quite smoking said that she found it easier to quit smoking than to lose weight, and this was after years of smoking. This is depressing, because they say it is so hard to quit smoking :( Well, I didn't mean to be so depressing, so I'll go to bed as it's almost 1am.

01-14-2005, 10:20 AM
Bonnie- How'd you like the eyebrow wax? I love getting mine done.

Dena- thanks for the info about little gym- I'll look into it. How are you feeling today?

Skinny- congrats on staying OP again. You're doing so good!

Flora- good news about your son. Glad everything was safe when they got back.

Amy- welcome! never too late to join! Have a great time!

Chris is feeling a little better- he still has cold sweats alot- he's cold to the touch but that "calmy" feeling. I actually had to change the bed this AM because he sweat so much last night. Called him this AM to see how he's doing and he said, the big wigs just made their way around and told everyone that they were working 7 days a week- starting tomorrow. The paint area was demolished in the fire- the only thing that survived is a sample paint room but it's tiny and they can only paint 1 piece at a time. I don't know how well thought out the plan is- sure they get the orders out instead of contracting it out but they're paying these guys time and a half. Painters are not cheap- well they pay them good at least. It's good in one way- $$$ coming in but I hate that chris won't ever get a day off. they're going to do it until they're rebuilt- told them about 3 months. Poor Chris.

that's it for me for today- not an exciting weekend- doing our second to last premarital counseling session sunday evening. but that's it. probably early to bed tonight since he's gotta work tomorrow.

Have a great weekend everyone!

01-14-2005, 11:31 AM
Hope this finds everyone doing well. I walked 50 minutes last night, met water goals and was op. Feel like I'm getting back on track.

Florafae-So glad your son and you came through everything unscathed! I've never heard of the Trikke. Have you had any one else respond positively? I'm curious so keep up updated, please.

Cole-how was the meeting? I hope you really liked it. I have a WW question for you-do you count your activity points or stick to just using flex points? Sometimes I use my ap. Just wondered. If we were to count both, we could eat practically anything in sight and be okay! I had a problem at first w/my points b/c I thought as long as I'm within my points, I'll be okay. But I learned you still have to keep things balanced. I'm doing much better getting in my veggies/fruits. OP yesterday and that was even counting a few oreo's! Hey-PMSing women must have chocolate! This one must, anyway! :D I have 28 FP's that I've saved in case I need them at my sister's house this weekend.

Amy-welcome, welcome, welcome! Glad to have you here. Wow. You certainly are a busy mom, aren't you? Do you homeschool? Just curious. My sister home schools here 8 year old daughter and it works very well for them. I think it's great that parents can do that. I take it from your post that your a SAHM? As for the snacks, we purged our home of them months ago. Even when we get dessert it's a "lite" version. Is it possible to find a lite version of whatever your favorite is? That way you'd get the taste w/o as much bad stuff. I agree w/what someone else said about menu's. We make a menu every week before grocery shopping. It really helps keep us on track w/healthy eating and eliminates stress. Again-welcome. You're at the right place for encouragement and support!

Sweetpea-welcome back. :) I've missed you. You live in Ohio, right? How's all the rain, snow and flooding effecting you? Stay safe! Congrats on your exercise! Good idea-laying out your clothes before going to bed at night. Smart thinking!

Dena-feeling better?

Jean-nice to meet you! :) Congrats on your weight loss! Way to go! :cb:

DewCan-I donate blood on a regular basis. I'm O+ so they love to see me come in! I have to be careful w/my iron level though. I've been turned away more than once b/c my iron was too low. I'm borderline enemic. So, about a week before I go, I load up on iron rich foods and stop drinking tea. I heard some frustration in your last post so here's a hug for you! :grouphug: I'd like to encourage you to just keep pushing through. You can do it! We all believe in you and are thinking positive thoughts for you! AS for the snacking, do you keep healthy snacks at home? Maybe low fat or lite versions of your favorite? Is there maybe a stressful sitch in your life that is causing you to seek comfort from food? I know I have to always be on guard re: emotional eating. I am feeling a litte frustrated right now as well. I'm PMSing and, even though I'm exercising and eating right, I'm not feeling any different right now. But I just have to keep pushing and I know it will start coming off again. After TOM, I certainly expect a loss! :) We're all cheering for you to succeed! :cheer:

Kandice-glad Chris is feeling better. It sounds like he'll need all the energy he can get for his work schedule! Are you doing your premarital counseling through your church? That's how we did ours a couple years ago. I enjoyed it. Hope you're gleaning lots from it. Not much longer now. I'm so excited for you!! Is it going to be a big wedding?

Bonnie-I meant to ask you about eye wax as well. I love it! It's one of my pamper me activities. I like to watch horse events as well and my DD's have horses at their dad's farm. I think horses are beautiful animals but enjoy them from a distance. I used to ride some but haven't been on one for years. When are you leaving for FL? Be sure to use your SPF45! :D

Boy, I certainly was long winded today! Oh, well. Ladies-have a great day! Remember to be kind to yourself today!

01-14-2005, 12:15 PM
Hi everyone!

First of all, thanks for your kind well wishes for me to get better. I feel better today. I can't wait to get out of the house! I found another gym in my phone book yesterday, which is only 4 miles away, and I made an appointment to check it out at lunchtime. Wish me luck. This is like my 10th one I scoped out. I want a ladies only gym, where I can come or go when I want, with cardio/weight machines at a reasonable price, that is clean without a many-year contract. Is that too much to ask? I'm just not into co-ed, with all those guys and sweaty smells.

Skinny, woo hoo! Good job on walking, drinking your water and being OP yesterday. You're doing great! And I love your encouraging attitude.

Flora, glad to hear that things are improving. Are you in LA county, San Bernardino County, or Ventura County? Isn't that where most of the stuff is happening? I lived in Santa Barbara, 15 miles away from La Conchita. I knew that place well. I don't know wjy those people continued to live there after the mishap in 1995. Too dangerous for me.

Amy, welcome! We're glad you could be part of our group. This Valentinies really provide great support and motivation. And your plan of counting cals and exercise are great. Try making a cup of hot tea when the cravings hit. Or do something nice for yourself like take a hot bath or do your nails. Try to keep occupied at night to start a new habit. Or go brush your teeth. We all have moments when we want to blow it. We have to do whatever it is we enjoy to replace that feeling. (It's usually do to stress.) Good luck to you! Come here and post your feelings if you want. You'll find that we probably go through the same thing.

Jean, so glad you found us. And congrats to you for getting back on track and losing 2 lbs.

Dew, I have to hand it to you. I don't think I could live in weather that cold. It would get to me after a while.

Sweet Pea, glad to see you back with us.

Bonnie, eye brows waxed? You're going to look hot for your FLA trip.!

Kandice, sorry Chris is still under the weather. What he has doesn't sound good at all. Please take care.
Dena

01-14-2005, 12:18 PM
Well, Yee-hawwwwwwwwwwwwww! Three-plus Christmas pounds off as of this morning, so we will round it off to four, if you ladies don't mind!!!!:D That means I'm starting on my Valentinie Challenge now!!! Back to 200, and five pounds to go by February 14th.....:dizzy: So I have 31 days to lose five pounds, including ten vacation/travel days to Florida. That means 21 days of that, I must be REALLY good! Can I do it, girls??????? YES!!!:p (Or at least try REAL hard!) I leave for Florida on Jan. 22.

I love the way my eyebrows look, ladies! I will continue to do it....... So quick, not TOO painful...... well, the pain is there but fleeting! I think I will ask my DH for a pedicure for Valentine's Day, rather than the usual chocolates! :^: I've never had one, and my diet buddy keeps urging me to get one.

Bless you, SkinnyButt, for donating that blood. You literally save lives!:o

Kandice, so glad Chris is feeling somewhat better and is back to work. Tell him not to work TOO hard!

Dena, hope you are more chipper today. Hang in there!

Jean, again, I am so happy to see you back on the wagon with me!!! You can do it this time........... keep up the good work!:)

Am also anxious to hear about Cole's WW meeting last night........

To all of you................ :grouphug:

Thanks for the welcome! I am glad to be here. I have discovered that I feel the worst from about 4-6:30 or so every evening. I get that "why in the world am I doing this" syndrome, lol. I have decided that I need to GO somewhere during this time period or something. Perhaps that will help. It sounds like you all have VERY busy lives yourselves!

Skinnybutt-I do not homeschool, although three of my four are still of preschool age. I do a co-op preschool with some ladies in the neighborhood. My (almost) 5 year old and my 3 year old attend it. I teach once a week and the other three weeks a month the other ladies teach it. My oldest (and my only boy) is in first grade.

Florafee-It sounds like you have gone through a really rough time! Hope you're hangning in there!!

Cole-I considered doing WW, but the only meeting place was CLEAR across town and I knew I'd never go. How much does it cost?

My husband and I are both full time students, and my husband works full time in addition. I am a SAHM. That makes for some LOOOONNGG days with all these little kids and a husband at school until 9:30 or so. I adore my kids, though. We are aiming for 6 kids. I have ALWAYS wanted a really big family.

How much weight should I lose a week? I had read that you shouldn't go over 2 pounds a week or it wouldn't stay off. For some reason, I seem to have lost THREE pounds in the first three days! Is that just water weight or something? Is that okay? Let me know if I am doing something wrong.

Skinny- We didn't have a church when we set out to find a pastor so he's just a christian counselor/ pastor. He said he strongly recommended doing the counseling, he didn't like to marry people without it. We are learning alot- we've talked about our differences in the way we were raised and our expectations of raising our children and things like that. Now, we found a church and invited our pastor from church. we'll ask him to do a blessing at the reception or something. Small wedding- invited 79 people including us and the pastor, but in June we're going to Maine and having a big wedding up there for my extended family- inviting 100+.

Bonnie- ohh a pedi now?! dena got one not too long ago- be careful- they're addicting! manis are too for me at least- I love seeing my nails- hands and feet- done.

I just got done pampering myself a few minutes ago- I bought a pair of undies for the wedding- says "I love Chris" and then I bought a shirt to wear sunday after the wedding and on our honeymoon that says "Mrs. S---" my new last name... Going to try to keep them a secret from him so he'll see the undies after we're already married.

01-14-2005, 01:49 PM
Skinny, thanks for the encouragement ;)

Tobaccy, you CAN do it!!! Yeah, for the loss of the holiday pounds. :)

Amy, I think big families are great. I come from a family of 6 kids and it was wonderful, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

Well, I should go and clean, clean, clean....yuck

01-14-2005, 03:14 PM
Good morning everyone, :flow2:

Kandice, the undies and t-shirt are a great idea. Iíd love to see the look on Chrisís face when he sees them. :D

Amy, evening is the hardest time for me to control my eating, too. I get really hungry for salty things. If there are chips in the cupboard, I hear them calling my name. I think your idea of getting out of the house is a good one. One of my tricks is to take the dog for a walk. Being outside, especially when itís colder, seems to break the spell. I also have some fancy teas that I save for such occasions, and Iíve found that drinking a glass of lime-flavored Perrier also seems to help. I think itís because Perrier contains a lot of sodium and eases the salt craving.

Dena, glad to hear youíre feeling better. I live in Goleta. What are the odds? My son who was evacuated lives at the bottom of Old San Marcos Pass. All the homes in the area were evacuated. Cathedral Oaks road was closed from Patterson to Turnpike. Itís been very crazy here because the 101 has been closed at La Conchita since Monday, and all the commuters from Ventura have been unable to get to work. I think the 101 is supposed to open today, at least one lane in each direction. (So much for the traffic report :^: )

We have a good friend who lives in La Conchita. The mudslide stopped one block from his house. Those who died were his friends and neighbors. He is badly shaken. After the last deadly slide, everyone urged him to move, but he loves being close to the beach and decided to stay. I donít know what heíll do now. Iím with you. Thereís no way I would live there.

Diana, I grew up in Illinois and had some cold winters, but never 40 below. Wow. :sman: Thatís cold! I understand what youíre saying about the urge to eat even when youíre not hungry. I feel the same way a lot of times. So much of dieting has to do with the brain, emotions, and stress, and nothing to do with the stomach and hunger. I think being aware of this fact is at least a step in the right direction.

And now, back to work. I wish everyone a good weekend.

01-14-2005, 03:23 PM
Hello, everyone. Welcome to all of the new people! Our group just keeps growing and growing :dizzy: It will only make us all stronger.

Thanks to all of you for your questions and concerns about my WW meeting. It went really well, I absolutley love the leader, she is really energetic, outgoing, and a little loopy (just like me :D ) I think I will actually look forward to going to the meetings! I found out that I was not doing my points correctly, so mabey that has been a problem with my weight loss. I didn't know that I was supposed to have a certain amount of veggies an fruit and milk, I was just eating my alloted points. Whoops! I am OP now that I know and will use my Flex points over the weekend! I love the idea that I have these "extra" points, in case I mess up. It isn't really that expensive, I had a free pass to join. All I had to buy was the books ($25) and pay the $12 weekly dues. It is worth it to keep my butt in line  Pretty sad that it takes this for me to be held accountable for my weight. But, at this point I am happy with whatever works!!!

I just wanted to tell you, Kandice your little undies and shirt sound so cute, I know Chris will love them! that is also so good that you are going to couseling, I am sure that you will have a very happy marriage.

I am glad that everyone is feeling better and keeping on track! I will be traveling with work next week to Savannah, Hilton Head, and Valdosta area so I don't know how much I will be able to post. I will try to keep in touch! Everyone have a wonderful and healthy weekend!

01-14-2005, 05:49 PM
You live in Goleta? And your son lives near Patterson? I lived near of Patterson and Hollister! Wow, what are the odds is right!! I'm glad you are all doing better. I can't believe that this has happened to my lovely little Santa Barbara area. I used to work and went to school at UCSB. Isn't it a small world! Take care.
Dena

01-14-2005, 07:32 PM

My husband and I are both UCSB alumni. We came here to go to school many, many years ago and never left. We still make it to a lot of Gaucho basketball games.

For all the terrible loss, sorrow, and disruption that the heavy rains brought, they have also turned the area into a beautiful jade jewel. Today, all the plants and trees seem to be sparkling. The mountains and hillsides that were brown from two years of drought are now deep green and lush with growth. The sun is shining. The sky is a brilliant blue. The air is crisp and clean. The birds are singing. Itís one of those amazing days in paradise. Iím sure you know what I mean.

Take care,

Hello to all Dewcan surprize to see you say -40 I thought I was the only one from Canada But for you ladies that say that is to cold well there is nothing better to go for a walk on a snowy winter day and thats what I did to day 2 miles and it was wind chil -26 really feld good ......It is better then all that rain we were having .Well did good to day hope I can keep it up for the week end ,,I have a hard time keeping up with all you guys it is nice to hear that I am not alone with wanting to eat for the fun of it . 01-15-2005, 10:54 AM
Hope this finds everyone doing well. I did 50 minutes on the ellip. last night, was op and met my water goals. I'm getting ready to go for a walk. It's 25 degrees here at my sister's house in IN but I'll be bundled up! They are not members of the Y or a gym or anything so it's walk outside or skip it today. And skipping is not an option.

Kandice-love the panties/t-shirt idea. :D I'll bet he loves it! That's very sweet and thoughtful of you. We were already going to church so our pastor did our premarital. He won't marry anyone who doesn't have premarital w/someone. It doesn't have to be him but someone. One of the hardest decisions we had to make about getting married was what church to attend. We both attended somewhere and were very active. We ended up at Bill's church. The deciding factor were how my kids responded to his church and were they wanted to attend. It's been the best thing we ever did. Karen, my oldest, sings w/the praise team on Sunday morn. and night (she has an awesome voice!) and Ashley, my youngest, is becoming involved in things as well. Overall, it was a good move for all of us.

Jean-I'll be thinking of you when I'm walking around in the cold today. I don't know if I could walk outside in weather as cold as what you've got!

Amy-Six kids. Wow. I think that's great. I have 4 siblings and, as Diana already already said, I wouldn't have it any other way. There are so many wonderful memories of growing up in a house full of family. Full time student as well? What are you studying? I understand what you said about the days sometimes being long. I used to call the weather update just to hear an adult voice! And that was w/only two kids. But, I loved being a SAHM. It's the greatest, most fulfilling thing I've ever done.

Cole-glad you liked the meeting. I was doing the same thing you were w/my points. My friend straightened me out though and then I started seeing some awesome results. I saved my FP for this weekend as well. I knew my sis would be doing some extra things and I didn't want to have to worry about my points that much. This morning is pancakes. Yum. I haven't had pancakes in quite a while and I plan to thoroughly enjoy them! :) Be careful on the road next week.

Dena-glad you're feeling better! How's it going for you?

Bonnie-congrats on the loss! You're doing great. Hang in there. :dancer: I like pedis but, like Kandice, I think mani's are my fave. That's one of the treats I do for myself every now and then. What's next-a facial and a massage? :D

Florafae-how are things going for you? Sorry to hear about your friends loss. I liked that you try to find some good in things. You spoke very elequently of how beautiful everything looks now. I believe that's called finding the silver lining in the clouds. :)

Well, ladies, I must go. My breakfast awaits. Have a great health day and a great weekend.

01-15-2005, 10:59 AM
That HHfM post was actually from me. I have no idea who HHfM is or how I got there but it's actually me. Oh, well. Happy Saturday!! :)

01-15-2005, 04:40 PM
Grandma57, I'm from Alberta. ARe you in Ontario, just a guess, cuz you were talking about rain.

Gotta run, have a good weekend!!

01-15-2005, 06:08 PM
I really admire you Canadian girls walking in the cold!!! I like cold, but when we start talking *minus*, I would probably go to an indoor gym!!!!!:D (By the way, do either of you make *poutine?*

BIG EXCITEMENT HERE THIS MORNING! Lost my 35th pound, my first real loss (above last year's 34 lbs.) for the New Year, and I have four more to go to meet the Valentinie Challenge now. This is not official until Monday, but I couldn't contain myself!:)

Kandice, your undies for the wedding sound so cute! SkinnyButt, enjoy your pancakes!

Have a great Saturday evening, all! :grouphug:

Bonnie, poutine is something people here really like. I've never tried it because I think it's best if I don't know what it tastes like  Congrats on the pound lost!!!!

Jean, is that a new video, because I haven't heard of it? I'm assuming that it includes jogging, do you like it? I'll have to check it out.

Good night ladies

01-16-2005, 04:53 PM
Hi Diana yes I think it is a new I just got it It is a 30 mni work out real simple and easy to do but I work up a good sweat she gets you moving walking and joging . Jean

01-17-2005, 09:51 AM
I'm originally from Maine- my maternal side grandparents were all from Canada, and poutine was/is a family favorite! mmmmm!!! My grandparents families each came down from Canada to work in the textile mills and set up in Lewiston in a community named "Little canada" where all the frechmen lived who worked in the mill. Later after they befriended each other- they realized they were from the same area in Canada- they describe it as living in the next town over.

finding a church was hard for us too Skinny. I come a very Catholic family and was always very involved in the church. I came to NC and went to church and didn't feel the welcomeness and love that I was used to so I never went back. Chris never went to church. Chris and I found ourselves a Southern Baptist church that we like a lot. We're not allowed to become members yet- because we haven't been baptized (I had been Baptized Catholic and Eph- I forget which chapter- it says, "One Lord, One Faith, One baptism" but the pastor and chairman of deacons say I need to get baptized again). They won't baptize us because we're "living in sin" by living together before we're married. he said they'd baptize us after the wedding though.
Last night with our pastor that's going to marry us, we talked to him about it and he said he would be honored to baptize us if our pastor didn't have a problem with it. Chris and I talked last night and we want to do it with the pastor that's going to marry us. we've come to know and love him and want to share that with him.

weigh in day today! How's everyone doing? (Congrats Bonnie- one the lb lost! :D )
I'll post my results around lunch time.

01-17-2005, 11:01 AM
Good morning all! I have *odd* news to report. I was down that pound, to 199, on Saturday morning, which made me three pounds off since last Monday. That is what I consider my *new* weight.:) Unfortunately, Saturday night and last night, I ate hot, pickled green beans (a ton of them)............. they are literally pickled in a salty brine for a couple of weeks before they're canned......... I had 1600 cals. on Saturday, 1800 yesterday, so I didn't really eat enough to *gain* weight, but I am holding a ton of water because of the salt. So my weight is back up a couple of lbs. today!:( I know it will go down by tomorrow or Wednesday, but I'm so annoyed with myself for eating so much salt (I had other salty stuff, too.) That is my downfall.......... So I will report back tomorrow, after eating normally again.

Kandice, do you make *poutine?* I have made my own *quick* versions a couple of times, after hearing about it. I have only used frozen fries, and I can't get fresh cheese curd here. I used shredded Monterey Jack//Cheddar, and gravy from a jar. Someday, I will do the fries from scratch and make my own gravy. It is sinful, but delicious, isn't it? (See, if it's salty, I LOVE it!) DewCan & Jean, thanks for your replies on the subject. Jean, from all I've heard, it is a Canadian dish, mainly. When you find it in our Northern border states, it's because it *came down* from Canada.:)

Jean, isn't this a great group to talk with, here on Dena's Challenge? It really helps me to come here, and almost always, there's someone to chat with about how it's going...............:p I am so glad you've joined us, and hope you will stay with us!!!

Good luck this week, all! :grouphug: :cheer: for us all!

Kandice, I was born into the Southern Baptist Church, and what you're saying about baptism and the SBC is right on. I almost became Catholic, ended up Episcopalian, now consider myself *non-denominational.* (Believe there are many paths to God...:) ) The important thing is that you and Chris have found a church that you're comfortable in together.

Hope everyone has a good week now, eating and exercising. I took a day off yesterday because my knee and back were *tweaking* a bit Friday and Saturday. The Wednesday night water aerobics class had me pounding on my knees too much (I didn't move into the deep water as soon as I should have), and my back was bothered, I believe, by increasing the weights a little too much on a couple of leg machines. So I'm going to drop the weight back again, in case that's what it was. I am feeling fine yesteday and today, but don't like to take a chance, at my antiquated age!

01-17-2005, 12:10 PM
Sorry.... my above post seemed to re-arrange the paragraphs! The cheer and hug were supposed to be at the end!!! I'm sure I did it, but I don't know how!!!:D

01-17-2005, 12:51 PM
Good Monday morning ladies!!!

I hope you all did great this weekend! I was so proud of myself. Yesterday at church I was given a cookie, AND a candy bar and I didn't eat either. On Saturday my family made some cupcakes for the neighbors across the street and I didn't have any of those either! Then last night at a meeting they were having cheesecake and I just had ice water! Hooray! I never thought I could have such self-control!

Oh, ladies from Canada, I MUST move there! I constantly tease my husband that he needs to move me to a colder climate. I LOVE the winter, especially snow. It gets cold where I live, but not cold enough for my liking. It averages about 35 for the high here in the winter with the lows in the teens. Still, it hardly ever seems to snow (although it DID snow yesterday and there's some on the ground!) I was so excited about the snow that I decided to walk home from church in it (it was the HUGE, beautiful flakes and I just couldn't resist). I was so pleased that two different cars stopped and asked if they could give me a ride. I turned them both down, of course, but I was pleased with the reminder that people can just be so GOOD. You know what I mean?

So, is Monday officially weigh-in day? I started on a Wednesday, so I have had that as weigh-in day, but I can switch it. Last Wednesday I weighed 192 and today when I weighed myself I weighed 188!!! Yippee!

Well, I have yet another question for you all! How often should I exercise? I enjoy exercise and will exercise as often as I should, I am just not certain how often that is. I was not exercising at all before I started. I thought that I had read that you should start out exercising 3 or 4 times a week and then when you hit a plateau then add a day. Is that true, or just something weird I have in my head? It seems that I also read that I don't have a need to exercise every day now. What are your opinions? Exercise every day or just 4 times a week? I'd love advice to maximize my long time weight loss goal!!

Thanks ladies!

48 pounds to go before it's baby time!!!

01-17-2005, 12:57 PM
Congrats Bonnie on your * new* weight- 199 :cheer: you're in Onederland! wait until you get to like 190-195 and that really settles it- it'll feel great!

My grandma isn't a cooker but they do make their own french fries- just cut up a potato and fry it... then chicken gravy- the lighter color gravy- and topped with shredded cheese. is how they made poutine.

Yup- I don't understand that about the SBC- I could go on forever... Chris and I are in a committed relationship and can't be baptized but a college friend who is single and sleeping with different guys, theoretically could get baptized because she's not living with anyone. It would be on her conscious I know, but to my knowledge they don't ask if you're having pre-marital affairs  they just kinda assumed with us since we're living together. But when we moved in together, we had intentions of marrying someday- we weren't engaged yet, but in the talking stages. I had never lived with anyone and Chris only lived with the Ex, so right there, that tells you this isn't a "bed-buddy" situation, it's for real.

I agree with most of the other views though, which I guess is the important thing because I doubt anyone could find a church where they believe everything the church teaches- I was catholic and still didn't believe everything they said either.

off to Curves!

01-17-2005, 02:01 PM
178 down 1 lb this week- 3 more lbs to go until valentinies goal :D

01-17-2005, 04:19 PM
Howdy everyone,

I weighed in this morning, and I was down 2 pounds. Hurray!

The ground dried out enough for me to work outside this weekend. The yard and garden were a real mess after last weekís storm. Our neighbors lost a tree that borders our property. There were branches and debris all over the place.

Amy, congratulations on your 4-pound weight loss. Iím so impressed that you were able to pass up all those goodies. Sometimes it seems as if calories are flying at us in all directions. It can be so tempting.

Bonnie, I share your love of salty things, and they certainly can send the scale temporarily in the wrong direction. But as you know, in a day or two, it will drop away, and youíll be back in the 90ís. I think youíre wise to listen to your body and scale back a bit on the exercise when youíre feeling a tad tweaked here and there. Better to ease off than a risk an injury that could put you on the sidelines for weeks or months.

Kandice, youíre one pound closer to your goal. Good for you. From everything you have written over the course of the past few months, it is obvious that you and Chris are ďliving in loveĒ. I know you will have a wonderful life together.

May we all have a good week,

01-18-2005, 01:08 PM
Hope this finds everyone doing well. I'm dealing w/mixed emotions this morning. I finally updated my signature and added the pounds I gained during Thanksgiving/Christmas. I gained 13 pounds during that time. :( Oh, I'm such an idiot for letting that happen! But, the past is the past and all I can do is not let it happen again. It just irks me that I have to relose all that weight!!

Anyway, lost 2 pounds this week! I was amazed as TOM is here. Yeah! That's two less holiday pounds to lose! :cb:

I have been op since last time I wrote and only used 6 flexpoints at my sister's this weekend-we made smores and it was worth the points! :D I have also exercised and met water intake. Yesterday, I did two sessions on the elliptical-50 minutes and 4.25 miles and 35 minutes and 2.75 miles for a grand total of 7 miles yesterday! I thought dh was going to have to push me out of bed this morning! Anyway, it felt good. Tonight, probably 3 miles on ellip or maybe just walking. Haven't decided yet.

Bonnie-congrats on the weight loss!!! You go, girl! :cp: :cp:

Kandice-Congrats on your weight loss! :bravo:  You're almost there already! You're inspiring! I don't understand the SBC stance either. I work w/a baptist minister whom I respect very much. We've had some interesting theological discussions but it keeps me on my toes and sharpens my wisdom. I love talking theology w/him but that's one thing I guess I won't ever understand.

Jean-I have a friend who uses that video and she really likes it as well. Kudos to you for walking in such frigid conditions! Brrrrr! I miss snow, we don't get a lot here in southern KY like I did in central Ohio. However, I don't miss the cold weather! I guess I'm just a true southern girl now! I prefer warmth.

Amy-You sure passed up a lot of goodies! Way to go! I'm proud of you! You're doing well. As for exercise, the only thing I can say for sure that I've heard is that it's good to take at least one day off a week to allow your body to rest. I take off Weds. and Sun. usually b/c they are busy w/church stuff. However, I'm getting ready to incorporate Weds back into my schedule at least. I have some video's I plan to use in the mornings before work.

florafae-congrats on your loss as well. :cb: :cheer: You're doing good. Hope your garden is soon restored to proper order. I remember looking at pictures and it was beautiful. I'm sure you'll have it whipped into shape in no time.

Well, laides-gotta run. Have a great health day. Take care of yourself. We're doing great!!

Oh-thoroughly enjoyed my down time w/my sis! Didn't really do anything special; just hung out. She walked w/me Saturday but made me promise to walk my warm-up speed so she could keep up. We went to a park close to her house. The lap was 1 1/4 miles through some woods. It also had a pond w/ducks and geese. It was nice to just spend time w/her. She's an angel!

01-18-2005, 01:08 PM
Hi Everyone!

It's that time of the week! I'm happy to say that I lost another 3 inches, so that makes 7 inches so far. One more to go before Valentine's Day!

Oh, and more exciting news... I found a really great gym! It's called "Lady of America." It's new and clean, for ladies only with treadmills, ellipticals, weight training machines, free weights, balls, stretch cords, aerobic classes galaore, yoga, step, televisions to watch while exercising,
free babysitting, tanning booths, spray tanning booths, lockers, showers and fun people... all for $149 a year! I signed up immediately, and I've already worked out several times. I just love it. They took my measurements and will do so again in a month, so that's great motivation, too.

Congratulations to everyone who lost weight this week! You are all doing a great job!
Dena

01-18-2005, 03:06 PM
WOW! Congrats Dena (for the inches and for finding a gym)! that's such a good price too!! Where are you losing the inches? (just curious...) is it in 1 place more than others? I know personally almost 1/2 of my inches came from my thighs...

Skinny- remember that next time... "have to relose all the weight I already lost...." but congrats for staying OP and losing 2 lbs! :cheer:

I go get a haircut (just trim- still trying to grow out my hair for the wedding 'do  ) and an eyebrow wax tonight- fun fun! :D I almost want to go shopping tonight too- just to go, but I think we'll probably just stay home and watch the final final biggest loser... the rest of the week is pretty busy with church tomorrow, and dance class thursday...

01-18-2005, 03:32 PM
Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For all you losers.... Kandice, Florafae, Dena & SkinnyButt!!! :balloons: for all of you. So proud of my mates here!:D

Little bad news from here in Raleigh... The water at the pool was too chilly last night, but we worked out anyway. I did nothing out of the ordinary, but may have worked too vigorously to keep warm, I'm thinking. When I walked out of the Y into the 17 degree icy, windy weather, I felt my lower back sieze up!!! :( :?:  It's the worst episode I've had in several years, and I've been on muscle relaxants and monster-ibuprofen since then. I could barely walk around and get things done this morning, but I've loosened up some as the day goes on, and I think I've got a bad strain, as I've had a few times before in my life. So depressing though, right before we leave on vacation Saturday!

So no weights for a couple of weeks........... and I definitely won't do any more real water aerobics for a week or so. Just walk in the water, gently bicycle on a noodle, etc. As I said a few days ago, I think I had tweaked my back with too much weight on one of the machines, and I think last night was the last straw!:( Oh, well, enough moaning!!! I can still walk around and do things, and there are people way worse off than me!:^:

Gotta go eat lunch with DH! Congratulations to all of you again!:)

01-18-2005, 05:10 PM
oh bonnie! that's terrible! I hope you feel better by Saturday! I know you probably know what works for you, if this has happened to you before, but really, try the thermacare for the back. Chris lifted a box wrong and I got him some of those and he said they are a miracle- they worked for him.

01-18-2005, 07:23 PM
Bonnie, wow, that's an exciting weight :spin: Give your back a little TLC, it needs it.
Amy, 4 pounds, that's really impressive.
Kandice, keep it up, you're getting there.
Florafae, wow, is everyone losing? This is great.
Skinny, congrats, you're almost at the half way point!!
Dena, inches is what really matters in the long run. That gym sounds good.

I don't understand it, I'm up 2 pounds this week. I just don't know why. I'm not going ot put it in my signature, because it will be gone next week. So there, hmmmph. I'm mad.

01-18-2005, 08:22 PM
I just came back from the gym, and I'm so happy, because going there actually makes better. I feel like I'm back and strong again, before my stupid sick episode. I went on the treadmill for 1/2 hour, worked out with weight machines for 1/2 an hour, and got on the elliptical for a few minutes. So I was there for over an hour and loved it.

Kandice, you asked where I lost inches... 4 around my waist, 1 on my bust,
and 2 on my hips. I would really like the hip inches to keep dropping, please. :) Congrats to you for being so close to goal!

Dew, hang in there. That's happened to me before for no reason. Did you have some salty foods?

Skinny, wow, congrats on the 2 lb. loss!

Flora, congrats to you, too!

Amy, four lbs!! Wow!!

Bonnie, I'm so sorry about your back. Take care of yourself!

OK, time for me to make dinner.
Dena

Thank you all for your concern!:^: I appreciate it.... I'm sure I will survive, but you just hate these setbacks when you can't burn the calories like you'd like to. Seriously, though, at my age, I can't push too hard so I will have to let myself recover from this for a couple of weeks, and then re-start easy. But I can always do some walking for exercise so I won't stop moving entirely.

DewCan, I'll bet you are holding fluid from sodium in some of the foods you've been eating. Don't let it get you down. Tell yourself what I tell myself: as long as you're in your calorie/point range, you KNOW you are *losing* (it will eventually show!)..... you have to be when you're eating so much less than you were before. But we ARE women, and the fluid demons play havoc with the scale for most of our lives. I've had four cups of salty soup today, a total of 480 calories and I'll bet if I got on the scale right now, it would be scary!!!! So hang in there........... the scale will change!:)

Later, gators!:dizzy:

01-18-2005, 09:41 PM
Thanks for the support ladies! Today has been good so far but hte hungry bug has hit me hard, I've actually got a growly tummy.
Here's a question, have any of you tried Atkins or counting WW points? :?: Just wondering.

01-18-2005, 10:08 PM
Hi all,
I know I'm late getting in this challenge but as you can see I have already started! I just found you guys this minute. Love the site and joined yesterday.
Sooooooooooo much fun reading all the posts. I am eating LF, LC, and watching calories. Trying to get 30 mins exercise everyday.

01-19-2005, 02:52 AM

Welcome to our little weightloss group! :) How exciting to have a Valentine's Day goal and birthday on the same day! Good luck to you. I like your plan of LF, LC and exercising 30 minutes everyday. Glad you could join us.
Dena

01-19-2005, 09:30 AM
juitsy, welcome- I'm doing LC too and it's working for me... good luck!

I flipped the page, but someone asked about the Atkins book? Never read it- I'm just doing the Curves Low-Carb plan. the ladies in the Atkins forum though are very knowledgable... give them a try.

I really don't feel like going to curves today- but I hate to break my going... Been 12 times this month already... my gym bag's in my car and I won't have a chance to go tonight with church, so I need to go at lunch.... keep telling myself, go to curves, go to curves....

01-19-2005, 10:11 AM
Juitsy, welcome to our little group. It is great!!! :-) We are so happy to have you.

I wish you good luck on losing your 12 pounds by V-Day. Of course, even if you lose just half that much, it would be a big accomplishment in 26 days!!! I've averaged 5 lbs. per month loss for the last 7 months, for a total of about 35. Remember, we hate to lose it slowly, but that's when it stays off the longest! :-)

Kandice, go to Curves, go to Curves, go to Curves............... :-)

Back still very stiff today, but no pain running anywhere else. Whew! Kandice, I am going to get the Thermacare to take in the car with me for my trip. I'm using the heating pad here at home, but, of course, can't do that in the car. Thanks for the tip.... hadn't thought of that. Hope Chris' back is back to normal now???

Have a good day, everybody!

01-19-2005, 10:18 AM
One more thing........... DewCan, I've done Atkins briefly. It works, for sure, but the restrictions killed me. I have to have some amount of the very things he takes away!!! Counting WW points is really like counting calories, just *boxed* a little different way. My friend, who is now dieting with me, did WW Points two years ago, lost over 30 pounds. Sadly, she gained it all back. ANY diet works while you're sticking with it, of course. I'm just trying to find a way to eat that I can live with forever......... and still keep my weight down. I guess we all know that the bottom line is *eat less, exercise more*, no matter what you call it, huh? ;-) Have a good day!!!!

01-19-2005, 10:42 AM
 Hope everyone is having a good health day. I exercised for 45 minutes last night, was op and met my water goals. I got up this morning and worked out w/my pilates video. I can tell it's been a while since using this one! Ouch!

Dena-congrats on the inches gone and to finding a gym that fits your needs so well and so inexpensively! That's awesome.

Kandice-I agree w/Bonnie go to curves! Usually, when I really don't want to go is when I need it most. I always feel better afterward! What kind of dances classes are you taking? Are you learning to waltz for your wedding? What fun.

Bonnie-Hope your back is better soon. Be kind to yourself.

Dianna-hang in there. I agree w/what has already been said on this board-it's probably sodium in something you ate. I know that happens to me sometimes. Our bodies flucuate a lot. Just keep exercising and eating right and you'll see that 2 lbs just disappear! Also, I tried Atkins before but found it to restrictive. I like food, obviously! :D So, I don't really want to be denied anything-in moderation. That's why I like WW points. I can eat anything I want, in moderation, as long as I count the points for it. We recently celebrated a birthday here at work and I had a small, 2x2, piece of cake and that was okay. I just counted the points. Of course, as w/every healthy eating lifestyle, you can't over do and you need to maintain a healthy balance of fruit, veggies, meat, dairy and bread. But, I really like WW and it's the one "diet" that has brought me the most success. Ck out Atkins, though. It might be doable for you.

juitsy-welcome, welcome, welcome! You are in the right place for encouragement and support. We'll be cheering for you to reach your bday/vday goal! :cheer:

Gotta run. Have a great day, ladies!

01-19-2005, 02:26 PM
skinny and bonnie- I went at lunch time! I needed to I know it...

Bonnie- Chris' back is fine now- he just lifted something wrong and I got him the thermacare. I hope you take lots of breaks during your car ride, it would be awful to be stiff on vacation.

Skinny- our first dance is choreographed- we're dancing to Rascal Flatts' "Broken Road". It's alot like the waltz though I think... it's a simple box step (moving around though) and then an underarm turn, then this one thing that we stop and sway and then come back together, and then the 5th position break- it's like posing for the audience... and then we end with a turn and bow/ courtesy. I hope it'll look good. We had only danced together once before at a college friend's wedding in september and it was reminiscent of the 6th grade dances- arms around his neck type thing... I didn't want to do that for our first dance. (Chris is going to kill me that I told that he was taking dance classes- he pretends to be "manly", but he's not! He's about even as far as high maintenance with me- he uses facial scrubber and moisturizer, plucks his eyebrows...)

Have a great afternoon!

01-19-2005, 02:48 PM
Hi ya'll! I sooooo want to enter Onederland too~ So far, you all are helping me stay movitvated just knowing I'm not the only one who plateaus, who has bad days, who has good days. It's really nice. I'm so glad I found this community. Everyone here is doing so well. Congrats!!! I really hope I can hit my goal of 1 inch off my chest, waist, and hips. My arms and legs go more slowly and have stay the same for a while... they got smaller first, of course. It's the belly I want to go tho!!! I wear a 1x top (small chested.. odd for a big girl, I know.) with 2x or 3x pants! I hate it.

I would love to hit Onederland, as u all call it so cute-like, by April 1. My husband's bday is April 3rd, and we have planned a trip to Galveston for that weekend. Yay!! I have a top I wanna buy just for that weekend too. But I want it to be at least one size smaller. The visualizations help me tremendously. Try that too if you haven't already. :)

I'll keep you all posted and you do the same. I love reading how everyone is doing day to day. Also, when I post my miles for the month, they include each step I take all day, all month... not just when I'm exercising. I'm at about 90+ miles this month. I have been walking, jogging, etc. at least 10K-20K steps each day. I wear a pedometer. Another great suggestion! Get one! Today! They are great.. you can really see how much or how little you are moving.. I now have the habit of parking furthest from Walmart's (where u can get one for about $7.00) front door to add steps. ;)

01-19-2005, 02:56 PM
Welcome, Selina! So glad to have you join our Valentine Challenge ..... what is your goal for Valentine's Day? :-) (I think your goal of breaking 200 by April 1 is a good, realistic one!) Good luck!

01-19-2005, 03:01 PM
My Vday goal is losing one inch off my chest, waist, and hips... each. I don't own a scale. I hate them. I use the doctor's, my family's, etc. LOL. But if I were to do weight.. I'd say 212? 8 lbs. down... but then again.. last time I weighed, was Christmas Day. LOL. I was 221.. and I know I've lost, so I'm saying I'm at 220 now. Probably lower. Guess I need better access to a scale. Ah well! LOL

01-19-2005, 03:03 PM
Oops! And thanks for the sweet welcome~ :-D You girls are great here! Hugs!

01-19-2005, 03:22 PM
Selina........ sorry, I didn't read your original post as carefully as I should have. You did say *my goal is....................* By the way, I hate my scale, too, especially on some days! :-( Whatever works for you............ I have friends who never get on the scale, but use an item of smaller clothing to measure their progress. :-)

01-19-2005, 03:30 PM
Hi to all everyone is doing great....
Skinny butt I know just how you feel I did the same thing before Christmas gain 10 lbs and and could not stop eating then Jan 1 /05 came and I said thats it no more sweets for me and guess what I havnt had any thing ... and I have tried I think every diet in the books been dieting off and on I think all my life so now I am not dieting any more I just try to eating healthy and walking lots I think it is working before Christmas I was 175 lbs now 180 I only count calories stay to stay at 12 00 and no suger ....I have 10 more lbs to lose for the V day stay healthy Jean

01-19-2005, 05:38 PM
Hi Everyone!

Welcome, Selina! You're doing a great job! I love your motivation and dedication. And I'm with you... I rather measure than get on the scale. At least, when I measure I see the efforts of my exercise. And I love to exercise. So keep up the great work and you will lose your inches and get to your goal. Glad you could join us.

Jean, I like your idea of no sweets. I'm doing that, too, and I feel better for it. Good luck this week.

Bonnie, I hope your back feels better for your trip. Life always seems to throw us a curve, when we least expect it. I'll be sending you good thoughts that you will be fine for your vacation.

Skinny, great job on your exercise, water and eating. And now pilates!
Very inspiring!

Kandice, wow, I'm impressed... taking dancing lessons for your wedding. How wonderful! You guys are going to look great!

Well, I'm off to my gym. I just love that place. Everyday I try to do a little more than the day before... just a little challenge for myself to make me stronger. :) Right now the elliptical is the hardest for me. I can only do a few minutes and my goal is to do it for a 1/2 hour like I do the treadmill and weight machines.
Let's all continue the great work!
Dena

01-19-2005, 05:51 PM
I joined today, but I'm up for the challenge.

Let's see I'd like to be at 218 by 2/14. Have already lost 3 lbs since I started on 1/2/04

01-19-2005, 06:02 PM
welcome Selina! You sound so enthusaistic (sp?) and motivated- I have no doubt you'll get to your goal! :cheer:
I've done the visualization- look at it everyday... my red size 8 dress, hanging on the front of my closet. And my first bikini I've ever bought for the honeymoon that's on the back of the bedroom door. It does work...

I got the undies and tshirt today- can't wait to try them on! They didn't have Adult sizes in the undies- just juniors, and it said for waist size 30" get XL and 28" get L... I have a 29" waist right now- but still bought the Jr. XL 'cause of my bum
The tshirt I bought in Adult Med- I wear a large right now- so I'm hoping it'll look good- not too tight, but not hanging off me either... I'll let you know tomorrow how everything fits! and if I'm going back on phase 1 for 44 days

01-19-2005, 10:11 PM
Girls, I'm having the worst day trying to control my eating. I've had 1600 calories.......... and I'm having a hard time not going into the fridge again! I KNOW it's emotional eating from anxiety about the back pain, and wondering when it's going to go away!!! Oh, well, moan, moan!!! I'll have a cup of hot tea, some delicious flavor.......... and see if that helps!!!:^:

(And welcome, Chocolatecatz! We are really happy to have you with us!:) )

01-19-2005, 10:47 PM
Welcome, Juitsy, Selina, and Chocolatecatz!! The people on this forum are super friendly.

Thanks for being so supportive, I really appreciate it.

Kandice, what's phase 1?

Hey, I got a job today!!! Casual, but fulltime for the first while for orientation, I'm so excited. Should also help for weightloss, more movin gand less eating time ;)

01-19-2005, 10:49 PM
Bonnie, go have a soak in the tub with a good book, nothing passes time faster than that for me.

I am such an emotional eater, I'm thinking of buying Dr. Phil's book, cause I think he addresses that. Anyone read it :?:

01-20-2005, 09:46 AM
Welcome Chocolatecatz- you must have been posting the same time as me last night because I didn't see you post before. Check back in- tell us how you're doing it! (and your progress!)

Bonnie- I was going to suggest a book too- I usually get so engrossed in a book I forget what time it is!

Congrats Diana on the job! when do you start? Phase 1 of my Low carb is up to 20 grams of total carbs a day... supposed to stay on that no more than 2 weeks and then move to phase 2- 40-60 total carb grams a day... Phase 1 makes me lose a lot of weight... that's how I lost the 5 lbs after coming back from Maine.
I wanted to read the Dr. Phil book too- but haven't... I guess I'm waiting to win the posting reward that the 3FCs are doing... I'm so cheap!

And BTW- the tshirt fits very well. I had to show Chris- I can't keep anything a secret- but I'm keeping the undies a secret from him though. they fit- I'm a little disappointed I thought the writing was on the front side but it's on the back- So I'll have I LOVE CHRIS across my bum... oh well... everything was exactly what I wanted...

01-20-2005, 10:31 AM
Thank all of you for such a warm welcome. I truly feel support just streaming at me from my computer screen! Yay! Can't wait to be able to keep up with you all enough to respond to each of you in my posts! I love that. :-D

So far so good for me. Still doing about 5 miles a day right now. I'm at over 90 miles for Jan. But just so you know, this is the entire day, not just exercise. I move alot. I stay pretty darn busy. LOL

Please post often. I love reading your thoughts and goals.

01-20-2005, 11:27 AM
Good morning all!
Welcome to all the newbies! I am really a newbie myself. I just started posting a couple of days ago, but I am determined to meet my Valentine's goal. Great to have you here. My name is Amy and I am trying to lose about 50 pounds.

Kandice-your undies and shirt sound so cute! He's going to love them.

Selina-I wish I could get rid of my scale. I think I'm more addicted to it than to food, lol!! I weigh myself too often. In fact, today my scale says that I GAINED a pound. I am so bummed. I have been meeting my goals and exercising every day. I HAVE been working with weights so I am hoping that it is just a pound of muscle or something. I can tell that I've lost weight around the middle (my real problem area). My pants are fitting much better.

Hope everyone's doing well!

Amy, if you know you've stayed within your calories or points, don't worry about the scale being up a pound. You're a woman, and fluid *pounds* are always part of our lives!:o I can eat a lot of salty soup, and shoot up 2 to 3 lbs. which drops off the scale in a day or two.

I ended up losing my battle with the fridge last night, and eating about 2500 calories for the day! (When I should have been in the tub reading my *Covington Ladies* book!:D) This back hurting/no exercise allowed episode has really thrown me for a loop, combined with this cold, windy, snowy few days we're having in Raleigh. (I LOVE to eat soup and crunchy things when it's cold and windy outside, you know, sitting by the fire and all that!:dizzy: ) Well, I got up today, had my eggs and vowed that it wouldn't happen again......... Does anyone else want to eat all day, if you start off with cereal in the morning??? I swear, it seems to make me hungrier all day, whereas if I start with protein, it's easier to get a handle on my appetite.

Hope that you're all having a good day. :grouphug:

01-20-2005, 12:44 PM
Good Morning, Everyone!

It's Thursday already?! Man, the days are flying by! I'm so proud of me that yesterday I did three minutes on the elliptical. It sounds like nothing, but I could hardly do one minute in the beginning. I need my leg muscles to get stronger. I'm fine with the other weight machines and treadmill. The weather is really nice now in Las Vegas, so I'm gonna start getting outside more in the early morning, too, for my walk. The weather is around 65 degrees. Just beautiful.

Welcome, chocolatekatz! Glad you found us and could join us. Congratulations to you for losing 3 lbs.! Are you counting calories? What is your eating plan and what exercises are you doing? Don't forget to drink your eight glasses of water each day, too. We're rooting for you!

Bonnie, hang in there. I know how pain can makes you want to eat. I've hurt my foot a few years ago while exercising and couldn't do the regular exercises I was used to, and was so disappointed in myself, that I started hobbling to the refrigerator to relieve my stress. Not good. Food somehow comforts us when in pain, but we have to distract ourselves with new behaviors. (Easy to say, and hard to do.) I'm so glad you're getting back to eating right. And yes, cereal makes me hungrier! Take care of your back now and you will be able to exercise later. I wish you well.

Amy, I hide my scale, so I only face it once a week. It's hard to stay motivated when those numbers go the wrong way. (And my numbers discourage me a lot.) But if you're eating right and exercising, the pounds will come off! Good luck to you!

Dew, congrats to you on your new job! What is it that you are doing? How do you like it so far?

Selina, 5 miles a day?! Wow, that's great! Do you walk or run? Whatever you're doing, keep up the great work!

Kandice, thank you for reminding me to visualize. I think that's a great idea. I have a few size 8 dresses in my closet from the old days, which I want to wear again. Maybe I should stare at those for a while. Oh, only to get back there again! Your panties sound cute!

Flora, Cole, Sweet Pea, where are you?

Take care all.
Dena

01-20-2005, 01:02 PM
Hope everyone is doing well. Things here are good. I was op yesterday, did 30 minute pilates and met water goals. yeah! I'm having a good relationship w/my scale today. :D I bought a new digital one yesterday and, of course, I had to try it out. I've lost another pound! Woo-Hoo. I won't count it as official until Monday, though. Maybe more will be gone by then!

Kandice-I'm so glad your tee and panties fit! I don't know if I'd have been able to keep the tee a secret either! The dance you have planned sounds lovely (lovely-such a nice word-wonder why it isn't used more often. But, I digress). I'm sure the two of you will be the picture of happiness. Also, thanks for reminding me to visualize. Time to get that little black dress out of the closet and put it where I can see it!

Selina-welcome, welcome, welcome! So glad to have you. You're at the right place for positive pick me ups. I am ready for ONEDERLAND as well. You and I are in very similar places ie: what we weigh and what we want to lose. I'm cheering for you!

Jean-I limit my sweets very much-special occasions, etc. This is a big deal for me. Sweets were my biggest down fall. When I do get the craving, dessert is always a WW recipe so, even though it's sweet, it's better for me than what I used to eat. I also feel better when I limit my sweets. Keep up the good work.

Chocolatecatz-Welcome, welcome, welcome. So glad to have you. You sound like you're already doing well. You'll certainly find lots of encouragement and good advise here. Keep up the good work.

Bonnie-sigh-I'm w/you, friend. I am a very emotional eater. I'm finding ways to avoid emotional eating, though. When I want to eat, I read, do something w/my hands (I like to cross stitch), clean (my house is nearly spotless :D ) or just ask myself questions that are personal to me like-what is the truth of this sitch? Is food going to help the sitch or make it worse? Also, do you snack throughout the day? I've found that if I have a healthy snack around 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. it helps me continue to stay full and I don't do so much emotional eating. Hang in there. Hope your back is better soon.

Dianna-How's it going? Be sure to fill us in on your job.

Amy-Like Bonnie said-I wouldn't worry too much about the pound. You'll have that gone right off there before you know it. I usually only weigh once a week b/c it's too discouraging to weigh more than that. Our weight is effected by so many things it's just easier for me to weigh in on Mondays and forget about it the rest of the week. You hang in there! You can do it!

Dena-Congrats on doing the elliptical! Good for you! Before you know it, you'll be doing thirty minutes and not even blink. I'll be glad when it warms up here in KY as well. Although I like the Y, I prefer walking outside. I also only weigh once a week-except this week-as I mentioned above-had to check out the new scales!

Have a great health day. Be kind to yourself!

01-20-2005, 01:19 PM
Thank you, each and every one!!! :) I appreciate your support so much!!!

Right now, I am not eating but watching the Inauguration. What a beautiful city and ceremony! Laura Bush just looks radiant in her lovely winter white outfit... perfect for the occasion.

QUESTION FOR EVERYONE???? How tall are you, do you consider yourself to be small, average or large-boned, and what weight do you think is best for you and your height? I am 5'10", small-boned, and think my best weight will be 150 to 160.:) Thanks, guys!

01-20-2005, 01:34 PM
Bonnie-I'm a little over 5'8" and consider myself to be large boned. At my very skinniest (which was toooo skinny and I'll never do again) I weighed 140 lbs and wore a 8 1/4 size ring. So, I inherited my dad's big frame. But that's okay. I can live w/that as long as I'm at a healthy weight which is where I'm heading right now! The weight at which I felt my best was around 160-170 so I'm working towards 180 and will regroup from there.

Isn't Laura Bush one of the most gracious, kindest women in the public eye? I really like her. Watch some inaugaration for me! Oh, yeah for you for watching instead of eating!! :)

01-20-2005, 01:51 PM
Skinny_Butt, my sister is 5' 8", with lovely, large bones that she inherited from our mother and grandmother. Wish I had them!!!! She can carry so much more weight than I can, and not look too heavy. You are lucky!!! I am 60, my sister 70..... I think, as you get older, you need an extra 10 lbs. over what looked good when you were thirty! I don't think looking gaunt becomes mature women. I like a softer, more rounded look!:) (My sweet granddaughter has told me not to lose any more weight, she loves me just as I am!:^: I explained that the doctor wants me to lose a bit more so I can live a longer life......:) )

Whatever your politics, I can't imagine not being proud of Laura as our First Lady, just a natural beauty and a doll of a person! And the daughters are real cuties, too. When I look at them, I always try to figure out WHO each one looks the most like...........:) Have a good day!

01-20-2005, 03:50 PM
Selina- 5 miles a day is great! perhaps I should move my refrigerator next door  seriously- that's really good- keep it up! :cheer: I have an office job and I sit right here all day- a few trips to the restroom because of the water, but that's it... and at night, I'm too mentally exhausted to do anything... I take out my contacts and sit and watch TV.

Amy- if you're pants are fitting better that's a great sign! we're at about the same weight- have you lost a size yet? I can wear 13/14s now... (down from 16/18s) it feels great!

Bonnie- congrats about starting right back up again- and not letting the one bad day get to you! Weird that raleigh and east coast has had snow and we still haven't had any snow this winter yet in the foothills! I saw snow flurries Sunday night driving back from P. Mountain but nothing that amounted to anything.

Dena- the 3 minutes up for 1 minute is a wonderful Non scale! are you shooting for a specific time? like this week I'll make it to 5 mins? next week 10? I've never done an elliptical before.

I'm 5'10 and a medium frame I'd say... what is it- if you can wrap your thumb and index finger around your wrist? I've always been bottom heavy though. I wear a size 6 ring- I saw skinny had posted her ring size. 155 was in the healthy range for my height- medically recommended is between 132 - 174 lbs (19-25 bmi) so that's the goal.... I started with a 29.3 BMI (overweight/obese) and want to be 22.3 (healthy/ overweight). I like this site pretty good- they have a few different calculations.

exercised today too... glad I did- I gossiped the whole time  found out that someone that joined our church last sunday, he brought his fiancee to church last night, anyways- his divorce isn't final yet... but he's got a fiancee hummm :?: :o
not nice to gossip I know... :(

have a great night everyone!

01-20-2005, 04:41 PM
Hi there well I am med. bone I think and I just cheked the chart and I should be 150 I like that I am 5'5" so 30 more lbs Jean

01-20-2005, 06:21 PM
I'm 5'5. I'm not sure if I'm small or medium framed. I'm about 146 lbs. now and would be happy to get back down to 132-134, where I was a few years ago. In any event, size 8 is what I'm shooting for (down from size 16.) Needless to say, I've had a few ups and downs in my life. :(

Kandice, my goal is to stay on the elliptical for 1/2 hour. I can do that fine with the treadmill. I also spend 30 minutes with other weight machines at the gym. When I was at my lower weight I could stay on the elliptical for an hour!

Skinny, I watch the gals at the gym do pilates and i think of you. That still seems too hard for me to do. Kudos to you for accompishing that one. I'm actually afraid to try it. I don't want to look like a klutz.

Off to the gym I go~~~~
Dena

01-20-2005, 10:59 PM
Kandice, you're just too funny!!!!

Dena, you tripled your endurance, way to go :cb:

I'm 5'2" and medium boned. Medically I should weigh 137 or so, but I'd be happy at 147. I carry a ton of weight around by tummy and chest. I have a problem that if jeans fit my *** then they are way to tight on my tummy. My sister has the opposite problem, if jeans fit her *** they are way to loose on her tummy. If only our genetics had evened out a bit more.

As for my job, I'm an RN and will work in the hospital. Monday I'll find out when I start.

Happy Apprentice and ER oh and CSI for those who watch. I always bike in the evening while I watch my shows. Did anyone watch SuperNanny? Nasty kids, scares me half to death. :stress:

01-21-2005, 01:40 AM
Hey, hey, hey I did four minutes on the elliptical today!! Plus my usual 30 minutes on the treadmill and 30 minutes on the weight machines. Tonite hubby and I went for our evening walk. The weather is finally tolerable at night. It was pretty cold there for a while. It's amazing to see all our neighbors out there, too. I guess we had enough of staying indoors at night.
My computer is acting funny, so I better go.

01-21-2005, 10:17 AM
Hey peeps! I read all the new posts.. lol. I don't have the memory that you all do! I want to address each of you and I go blank when I start typing my post. :(

Ok, let me think. There was the cereal question. I have found that eating cereal in the morning is ok for me, but I let myself eat some throughout the day as well, to keep hunger at bay. I carry a bag with me in my car so I'm not tempted to stop for fries. If I get too hungry, I'm done for. So I have found that eating a fruit and a cup of cereal for snacks does me good. Sweets are my downfall too. I have to be very careful.

Oh and about my five miles a day.. yes, I walk/jog that in a day, sometimes more. But that's not just when I am exercising. It's from the time I get up til I go to bed. I wear a pedometer. So I don't really know exactly how many I do while I'm jogging. I think about 2+ miles in the 30 mins of jogging. The rest, I do all day.

I truly do park furthest from the door at a store (even if it's midnight and I just have to pick something up quick), and I have even walked around my kitchen table while folding clothes there. Just pick up a shirt, fold while walking around once, and then do it again. Y'all probably think I'm crazy, but with five small kids, you have to be creative! I usually jog in place while watching TV too. I even put the box for storing my Christmas ornaments across my living room so that each one I took off my tree and wrapped, I had to walk over there to put it in the box, and walk back over to the tree. I hit my 15K no problem that day, I think I cleared 20K. I've done that about 3 times this month I think.

I also want to say this. I am probably more fit now than I have ever been in my whole life, including childhood. I can do more now than ever b4. The gradual addition of a little more intensity, a little longer walk, a little jogging added in, slowly, have brought up my level of fitness so much in the last seven months. It's so weird. But good.

The smallest weight I have ever been at as an adult was 179. That was in 1996. I was about 22 years old. And I stayed at that weight all of 3 months. Uphill from there, sadly. That's what happens when we marry! LOL. He and I both gained! That is why my first goal is 178. I want to hit my smallest ever first.. then go from there. Another weird thing? I'm fitter now than I was 40 lbs. lighter at 179. No way I could have jogged much at all back then. I did walk several miles at a time then tho. Either way, I'm very happy that it's paying off. :D

And see? I can't remember who wrote what in all the posts! Dang it! Ok, I'll work on that. :D
Thanks again for the cheers of support. :cheer: You all are helping me alot. I want to get thru this plateau and move on!

Hope you all have a great day! ;)

Good morning ladies!

Okay, I have a very serious question for you! ;) I am calorie counting (and fat % counting). Now, if I stay under my calorie count for the day AND my fat count, does it matter what I have eaten? I ask because yesterday I broke down and had a Charleston Chew. However, when the day was said and done, I had only eaten 1197 calories (even though I am shooting for 1500 a day), 18% of which came from fat (I am trying to stay at 20-25%). So, did I stay OP or not? Technically it is easily within my goal for the day, but I feel like I cheated horribly and shouldn't count it. So, if sweets are a part of my calories, but I don't go over the calorie count, is that still okay? If it IS okay to have a little bit of sweets, as long as I don't go overboard, I can actually see how I might be able to stick to this plan long-term. I don't know if I can go without sweets forever. Sigh. It can sure be frustrating, can't it.

On a positive note, that darn extra pound I had yesterday has melted away from my scale this morning (I weigh in unofficially each morning first thing, and on Monday morning officially). Maybe it was just some water weight or something.

Hope you all are doing well. Chiming in on the cereal discussion...I find that if I have cold cereal for breakfast that I get hungry very quickly. I eat a wheat bagel with a little bit of jam on it for breakfast instead. It keeps me feeling full for hours.

Cheers and may we all lose more fat today!!

Diana- I watch apprentice- I like how he split them up this season... the college grads failed miserably last night though! and the guy that's a marketing tech! (the hippy sing songy one) I hope he does better in his real life!

it's fun because Chris only has a HS.. he went through basic law enforcement at the college to become a policeman (in his old life), but he doesn't have a college degree. I have my MBA and fairly established I think- I'm an accountant... so of course we picked sides at the very beginning. All in the name of fun.

Dena- 4 mins! YAY! 5 today? :cheer:

selina- oh selina, don't say that "that's what happens when we marry..." sigh... I do think that's what happened to me though. In May 2003 I was 173 at the dr's, May 2003 we moved in together and June 2004 I was 204! and moving down south too, where most of the traditions (that I've experienced anyways) involve "Mom's" home cooking, biscuits and gravy for every meal- breakfast, or as a side for dinner, sweet tea...and before March 2003 I was single and eating when I wanted to, and now I cook dinner- that's a big change too...

This is about my average weight now- the lowest I've worn in jeans that I can remember is a size 12 in 1998 when I was a senior in highschool and delivering papers in the morning to get some extra money. I walked a little over 3 miles in my loop every day.

I would love to be my lowest at the wedding- I set a goal of 175 because I thought that was attainable but if I can make it to 173 and weigh the same as I did 2 years ago- that would be the best!!

We're taking a co-worker out to eat for his birthday so send happy thoughts to me that I can choose a healthy meal and not be tempted. and I'll go to Curves for #15 after work.

Have a great day!

01-21-2005, 11:57 AM
Amy- if you were under in both categories, I would think you stayed OP for the day, even with the sweets.

01-21-2005, 01:11 PM
Good Morning, Everyone!

I love the energy everyone has. It's so motivating!

Selina, we don't all have perfect memories. We just scroll down and read what was said before. I even have to write names down to remember who did what, but that's my problem. :) We're just happy you're here with us and doing so well. I love your keeping busy and walking around attitude. I, too, park far away from the store in the parking lot, (but that's mostly because I don't like to park near anyone else, who can bang into my car.) Good excuse for walking, though.

Amy, some us are trying to stay away from sweets, because they cause some of us to want to overeat. But if you can control the situation, and count it in your calories, no problem. Last night I had a cup of popcorn and it was within my calories. It's not sweet, but a snack I don't usually eat. It's all about control and moderation. You're doing absolutely great!

Kandice, I'm sending you good thoughts, so when you go out to lunch you'll be fine. I know you will order the right thing. I'll be the little angel on your shoulder watching you. :)

Well, it's another gorgeous day here in Las Vegas. It should hit 70 degrees today, so I better get out there for my morning walk. I do love all that sunshine. Enough with winter. And I plan on doing my 5 minutes on the elliptical later at the gym. Wish me luck, ladies. Kandice, I took my little size 8 dress out of the closet and put it where I can see it. Talk about motivation. We shall get there!

Have a great day, everyone.
Dena

01-21-2005, 02:28 PM
Sounds like veryone is doing well. Things here are good. I was op-even w/some LF cookies-walked 3 miles and met water goals. That's 20 miles for the week and 60 miles for the month. Whew! I'm tired! :)

Selina-Don't feel bad about not remember what everyone said. I do one better than Dena-I use a cheat sheet! :D I get a blank piece of paper and write down names and responses! It works! I just want to be sure to get to know everyone a little personally. I know I like it when people address me by my name so I try to do the same. Good going on your walking!

Kandice-thanks for posting that weight site. My idea weight is 166 lbs, 2 pounds above the high end of the medical weight. So, I guess when I hit 180 I'll need to regroup, aye? So, the undivorced man brought his fiancee to church? Well, good-sounds like they both need to be there! :D Oh, did I say that out loud? hee, hee. I have a co-worker whose dating a man whose divorce isn't final. I'm so afraid she's going to get hurt but she's an adult. I personally wouldn't date someone who isn't divorced yet but that's between them and their God. Anyway, sending you strength to eat healthy at lunch time! I'm sure you'll choose wisely! :)

Dena-congrats on the elliptical! :cheer: When I first started on it, I could only do about 5-8 minutes. Now, I'm up to 50-60 minutes. You can do it! It's good to challenge ourselves sometimes. Also, on the pilates-I have a video. It's called pilates for dummies! When I first started doing that, I couldn't do all the reps and I didn't even attempt the last two exercises until I'd been doing it for quite a while. I built up to it, just like you're doing on the ellip. So, keep going, girl. Pretty soon, you'll be able to outdo me on that ellip!

Diana-My family doesn't have cable right now so the only things we can watch is our local ABC and NBC channel. I'm not much into reality shows. I figure my life is reality enough!! However, we do have a friend that tapes CSI (original) and Gilmore Girls for us. Oh, our cable is gone b/c of disobedient children. They're not supposed to watch t.v. until homework/chores are done. They decided they didn't like that rule so we decided we'd remove the temptation for them! If more parents would do this, we wouldn't need shows like super nanny! :D

Amy-As long as you were op, I wouldn't worry about the candy bar. I definitely limit my sugar intake. I usually save it for special occasions but as long I'm op, I don't sweat it. The other time I allow myself something small (sweet) is when I'm PMSing. Don't think I would survive, nor would those around me survive, my PMS w/o a little bit of chocolate! :D :D Congrats on the pound being gone!! :cb: See, we told you! Just hang in there and don't be too hard on yourself.

Gotta run. Have a great day, ladies. Thanks for all the encouragement and support! (((((hugs)))))) all around!!

Hi all,

Iím in the middle of a big project, and I havenít had much time to post. Iím hoping to be caught up by the end of next week.

Iím a hair under 5í6Ē with a medium frame. Iím aiming for the 140 - 150 range. I have a long way to go, but Iím getting there one pound at a time. Having a large amount of weight to lose can seem a daunting task at times, but this great group continues to keep me motivated. Thanks so much to all of you.

And now, itís back to work. Have a good weekend everyone.

01-21-2005, 03:54 PM
grilled chicken salad with honey mustard dressing. The honey mustard was in a packet and it said 8 total carbs and then I think the only other thing I have to count is tomatoes- everything else is free... so about 10 carbs for lunch.
(and Dena- felt you there- a coworker sitting on my left offerred me fries (I said no)
and then the coworker on my right- she had a ton of fries left over- I was like "you can't let those be thrown out!!" but thankfully the waitress came and asked her if she was done before my hands made it over there!)

I forgot to pack snacks today since I wasn't packing a lunch- so I've only eaten breakfast- 20 carbs (protein mix- 12 carbs and skim milk- 8 carbs) so 30 for today so far... we're having "rooster rollups" for dinner tonight, chicken and cheese and crescent rolls, and chicken soup- it's alot like chicken dumplings. I think it comes up to 11 carbs for 2 rolls ... I'll have to look it up- we haven't had them for a while... so I'll be within my carbs today (40-60).
I would love to get to a new low- been bouncing around 173 (naked) for a week or so now...

I don't know if anyone rents a lot of movies- we do- but on they have rent 3 gets the 4th free coupon and it doesn't expire until 12/31/05.. I printed a bunch out. Usually we all get to pick 1 movie (=3) but if we get a 4th free... we can find 1 more no problem! We haven't been to the library in a while either- we should see if there's movies that we haven't seen there.

have a great weekend everyone!

01-21-2005, 08:38 PM
Wow, good for you, Kandice! You're doing a great job. I'm proud of you for skipping those fries. Not an easy thing to do! (And I was looking over your shoulder!) :) The weekend is coming up... my downfall... so now it's your turn to watch me. On a brighter note, I did my 5 minutes on the elliptical today. I really wasn't looking forward to it. I made it some kind of pressure on myself. But thank you, everyone, for cheering me on. I feel like I accomplished something! By the way, I used to go to the library every weekend to get movies. They have the newest and best films on DVD. If I didn't get cable a few months ago (to finally see the latest episodes of the Sopranos), I'd still be going there. The only problem with cable is now I sit a lot more and want to keep watching tv. Not good.

Skinny, I must tell you that you inspired me when you said you can go on "that thing" for 50-60 minutes. That's awesome! Plus you walked 60 miles in a month?! And pilates?! Wow, girl, you put me to shame. But I love to hear what you are doing. It inspires me to get going, too. Speaking of inspiration, have either you or Kandice ever watched Joyce Meyers? She's a minister on TV. And I just love her. She's very intelligent and teaches scripture and about life extremely well. She has a great sense of humor, too. She's on every morning at 7:00 am. And I enjoy listening to what she says. (Oh, wait... I think she's on cable.)

Florafae, glad to see you again. Sorry about the huge project, but you'll get through it. Take care!

Well, it's time for me to make dinner. Have a great weekend, everyone!

P.S. How do you like my new avatar? :D
Dena

01-22-2005, 04:46 AM
Skinny butt, you are quite an uncommon mother, to take away cable from your kids. But I think it is a very good decision on your part. I'm sure that some tday I will have to od the same thing. I grew up without tv and so did my DH and we both think we are better for it. I read lots and he said he was very outdoorsy. Hats off to you for making tv a treat for your kids.

I hope your'e all doing well. I think I'mm addicted to eating the way others are to smoking. I mean well, but just can't quit. I wonder if there is a medicine out there that I can get from my doctor, I'm serious, I try everyday and it never works. I've had 2 good eating days in the last 3 weeks how pathetic is that.

01-22-2005, 10:09 PM
Hey! Imma use my cheat sheet today! hee hee

Oh first I needa report my inches lost since I started all this. I just added them up. It's only measuring my Chest, Waist, Hips, Calf, Bicep, and Thigh. All together there are 38 3/4 inches gone! Yay! :D Why are they going away so slowly now tho? :(

Amy, Eat sweets if you can put them into ur plan. I eat Bit O Honeys... let me go get one and tell u the stats.. brb. Ok, I'm back. 1 whole bar is 190 cals, 3.5 gms of fat. Not so bad when most candy bars are 200+ cals and 13 gms or so of fat. I love those. I don't eat them every day but I do eat them. I just add them in. Oh and I eat fat free sherbet for ice cream when everyone else here is eating ice cream. I have just come to accept that for the rest of my life.. this is how it will be for me. And that's ok. Because I am going to hit my goal and maintain it, dang it!~ :D

Kandice, Oh yeah, the food of the South. MMM.. so gooood, yet sooooo bad. I hear ya. You did very well at lunch. ^5! I bet you will make it to 173.

Dena, Congrats on your additional minute! I love it when my fitness level increases. It's great! Oh and I want springtime to get here soooo bad. I love flowers and all the greenery that comes out. I wrote a poem about it about 2 years ago and it's published in a book now. ::sigh:: :^:

Smart doing Skinny! LOL. I'm with you there on the cable issue. I'm a stickler for rules too. I try not to be too strict but you have to keep priorities. And I love that nanny show too! You are doing very well with your exercising too!

Hiya Flora! nice to meet you. I'm new here. :)

Diana, about being a food addict. I am one. Oh yeah. That's why I knowwww that I will have to be so diligent the rest of my days with this lifestyle I have now. I simply cannot allow it to overcome me again. Too many other things I want in life. Don't you all notice that food is something we HAVE to have about 3 times a day? You don't NEED drugs, cigarettes, sex, alcohol, etc. 3 times every single day of the week, do you? With those things, an addict would still live if they never had them again. (Ok, the no sex part, maybe would make life boring, but you get my drift.) So No Fair!! We have to struggle several times a day to eat THIS food and not THAT food. They can just choose not to even see what they overuse. We have to face it head on, non stop.. forever. That is why this is so hard. But I do believe that we can do this. Just means we are strong. Fine with me! I can be strong. ::flexing muscles:: Ha ha. Really tho, over time our tastes will change. I know that when I started Sugar Busters, which I don't really do anymore, the lack of sugar in my diet made it to where I had to drink my sweet tea only half sweetened bc I couldn't stand it so sweet. I had limited it so much that getting only half as much sugar in it was plenty. That was nice.

Ok, hope I got to each one of you who wrote! ;)

Well, high fives to everyone. Keep at it. You all are doing greatttt! Hugs!!

01-24-2005, 10:11 AM
Dena- thanks for your encouragement... and congrats to you too- for making it 5 minutes! :cheer: And no, never seen that show. I don't think I've ever watched a TV ministry- we just always turn the channel.

this weekend was my downfall... I was 177 naked this AM- so that's like 180+ on the curves scale ... I'm gonna get back on today. I get weighed and measured Thursday and I want it to be the real thing, instead of just measuring my mistake this weekend. it was so cold and icy, we didn't go out. All those comfort foods- cupcakes, pancakes; yeah that's what I ate. and I felt so bad about it at the time too- but still didn't stop myself! ugh!

selina- I noticed my taste buds changing too- I asked if I was normal. sweet things are (most of the time, except this weekend) too sweet, and bread, same thing, I can feel myself getting full when I eat bread.

everyone else- keep up the great work- can't wait to hear your progress!

01-24-2005, 11:52 AM
Good Morning, Everyone!

I'm happy to report that all of my exercising is paying off. I lost another inch... 1/2 inch from each thigh. That makes a total of 8 inches, so I met my goal this time. It's a good thing I didn't set a goal for weight loss. The scale hasn't budged. It's super discouraging when I rely on the scale and don't see progress. At least with taking my measurements, I know that I'm getting fitter. It's really hard for me to tell unless I measure. My hubby says I'm looking better, however! :)

Kandice, good for you for getting back on track. I know how hard it is to be good when it's cold out and all you want to do is kick back and eat comfort food. I'm glad the temp is the 60's here. It makes life a lot easier.

Selina, congrats to you for losing so many inches! Keep up the great work! Wow, you wrote a poem and got it published? Congrats to you!

Diana, I think you are going through some stress with your new job. Stress tends to make us want to eat. Once you settle in with your new routine you will be able to be a little stronger. Hang in there. We're rooting for you!

OK, how did everyone else do? Here's to another successful week~~

01-24-2005, 12:01 PM
Good Monday morning, ladies!!
Well, after I went to the bathroom and nursed the baby this morning (got to get rid of that extra fluid, :D ), I weighed 186! Hooray! I have lost 6 pounds. Even better, my clothes are starting to fit MUCH better! Yesterday for church I was actually changing outfits because I had more than one that I LIKED how I looked in (instead of desperately searching for an outfit that doesn't look horrible, like I usually do). That really motivates you, doesn't it?
I haven't exercised since Wednesday so I MUST do it today! Also, I've stayed under about 1400 calories all week, even though I have had a few valentines candy hearts (oh, my downfall, although there are only 140 calories in 40 hearts so they aren't TOO bad), and a piece of birthday cake for my daughter (and of course that candy bar earlier in the week). I figure that as long as my calories are okay and I am under the fat % I want, that it is okay to eat some sweets. I figure that if I am going to have to live this way for the rest of my life that I am going to need to find a way to get SOME sweets in (or I know I would never keep on doing it forever).

SkinnyButt-You know, we watch hardly ANY television at my house. The kids each get 30 minutes of either cartoons, computer time, or nintendo time a day. They can earn extra time if they do extra work or something around the house. My husband and I really don't watch any tv.

Kandice-I don't think that pancakes are that bad for you (unless you drench them in butter and yummy syrup, lol). I like to put some jam on them and they are quite tasty.

Anyway, I am about 5'2 and my ultimate goal is 125. However, I am going to try to get pregnant once I hit 140 (that is considered a "healthy" weight for me). I am going to keep it up during the pregnancy (since it is 4 pregnancies in 6 years that helped me gain all this weight in the first place!!!), but not actively try to lose weight. I am just going to be careful about what I eat. I will need TONS of help then, so hopefully you ladies will still be around to help me control all those cravings!!

Well, back to my crazy life (not to mention I smell a stinky diaper  ). Do you ever feel like your life JUST WONT STOP? I have four little kids (ages 7, 5, 3, 1) and my life is so PHYSICALLY busy. I feel like I am constantly changing diapers, bathing kids, brushing teeth, combing hair (I do that a lot with three girls) potty training, dressing kids, feeding kids, cleaning up, doing laundry, picking up kids from preschool/ normal school/piano lessons/soccer practice/basketball practice/dancing lessons/ chess tournaments, etc. At the ages of my children, I have so much I need to teach them in order for them to grow up to be good, responsible adults, but it just takes so much time! I need to teach them to WORK (which makes every task take three times as much time to complete when I'm trying to get the kids to do it). I need to teach them responsibility and respect (which means that I am also a constant mediator). I need to teach them to respect their bodies and to live healthily. In fact, in that area, I have started trying to teach them the importance of exercise. I figure that all adults in today's world will need to exercise 3 or 4 times a week to stay healthy (not many get enought physical exercise through their work anymore, although a few do). I have decided to purchase an exercise video for kids and have them do it three times a week. I will make it fun and do it with them and hopefully it will get them in the habit now of exercising for life. Anyway, I love being a mom more than anything, and I LOVE having a bunch of kids. At this stage in life it just takes so much physical energy. Some days I long for the days when they can all simply dress themselves and get their own drink of water, lol. I know I will miss the baby stage, but sometimes it is hard to see the end of the tunnel.

Sorry to vent like that! Don't get me wrong, I love my kids and can't wait to have more. It is just so much work!! Tell me it's worth it in the end!

01-24-2005, 02:58 PM
Hey everyone! I don't have much time to write but wanted to say I'm doing ok, lost 1/4 an in. here and 1/4 an in. there so far.. uggh~!! I am going to weigh on Wed.. taking one child to have his checkup so I'll use their scale hopefully. :dizzy:

I wanted to say to Amy that I get the same feelings about life with all the kids. Loving them so much but being so physically tired and mentally drained from all the mediating and teaching them. It's such a big job. My husband knows from only being with them on weekends too! One time he was with them for two days without me and he said 'I don't know how you do it everyday!' LOL. They are good most of the time. They have consequences when they aren't, like no TV or games... or time out, etc. And Bryan does very well with them though! He is more fun than I am.. I am always trying to keep the muddy shoes outside instead of walking across the living room carpet, or trying to keep the drinks in the kitchen instead of other rooms. If I don't, I have to scrub stains. So I have to force myself to try to be more relaxed about things, but it's hard. If I don't watch each thing now, then there is more of a mess later. I have 5 kids ages 8,7,4,3, and 2. When my son was tiny I had him as an infant, plus another 3 month old baby and a 18 month old and a 2 year old. All four under the age of 3. Plus we lived in an upstairs apartment which was big enough but was upstairs! You should have seen us carrying all those babies up and down plus the bags and toys, etc. every time we went somewhere. That was hard. I don't know how I did it! At least 3 of my 5 now can brush their teeth and dress themselves. My son is 3. He's learning. We have had a total of 12 foster kids in the last 3 years. Before this, we were parents to 8 exchange students in a span of 3 years. We love kids. One of my teenagers from Brazil called us yesterday. It was his birthday (He called me b4 I had the chance to call him :( ).. he's 23 now! I feel so old! He calls me mom. :D And I'm only 31! But I was his mom for a whole year here and he had a blast! We took him everywhere, all of them. We even took him trick or treating. They don't have Halloween so he loved it! LOL.

So glad to hear you are all doing well. I'll write again soon. Hugs!

 Hope everyone is having a wonderful day. Things here are good. I weighed this morning and it seems that the pound gone last week when I tried out my new scales is indeed gone! Woo-hoo! That's three pounds gone since I started this challenge. Yeah-4.5 more to go! :cb:  I was op this weekend. As a matter of fact, I was under point one day this weekend. My best friend really let me have it for being that much under point. I didn't do it on purpose it just happened that way. I told her I wouldn't let it happen again. I did 50 mins. on ellip on Friday and Saturday and 30 minute pilate yesterday. met my water goals as well.

Dena-congrats on adding more minutes to the elliptical and on losing more of you! You're doing great w/your exercise and you're losing inches. Good for you! :cheer: I have heard Joyce Meyer. I like her, too. Thanks for your encouragement and kind words. Oh, like the new avatar! :)

Diana-Thanks for calling me uncommon! Who wants to be common? :D Anyway, being a mom is my favorite "hat" I wear. If I fail at being a mother, I fail completely. It's a daunting task sometimes but it is worth it. About your eating...are you eating emotionally or is it b/c it's a habit? Ask yourself what's realy going on when you're eating. Also, remember it takes time to break old habits and establish new ones. Remember to be kind to yourself. You can do it, Dianna. We're all sending you strength and good thoughts to overcome!! :grouphug:

Fit chick-Congrats on your inches gone! Woo-hoo! :dancer: I know it's hard when things are happening slowly but that's the best way for it to happen. Hang in there! Thanks for your encouragement about being a mom and my exercise. Boy, you are one busy woman w/that many kids! I love kids as well and constantly have kids in and out of our house. But, I wouldn't have it any other way. We hope to be foster parents someday. Probably within the next year or so. Have some other things to get taken care of first. You sound like you have a lively, loving home. I'm sure all the children who are blessed to be there are better it.

Amy-I think all parent's who do their job as parents the way it needs to be done feel the way you feel sometimes: like all the activity is never going to end! It seems that you get one thing done only to have three other new chores waiting for you, especially when the kids are little like yours are. Just hang in there and keep being the good mommy that you are. I assure you, it will be worth it. Soon, you'll be doing what I was doing the other day and looking at your soon to be sixteen year old and thinking where did the time go? Have I taught her everything she needs to know? Will she be okay at college? Sometimes I wish she was 2 again when mommy was all powerful, all healing and all knowing! ;) *sigh* But I know there are some things that my kids have to learn themselves, no matter how much it hurts her or me! It's hard to raise good kids but if you stick w/it, I can tell you it's definitely worth it. When you hear your child say, Yes ma'am, no ma'am; when you hear them firmly but lovingly stand up for what they believe, even if it isn't the norm, when you see them hug someone who's in pain, when they are teenagers and still want you to tuck them in at night, when they tell you they missed you when you were gone last weekend b/c no one else's shoulders hold their heads quite the same as yours when they lean on you, you will shed a tear, send a prayer of thanks heavenward and say, yep-it was worth it!! Hang in there, sweetie. You are in the middle of the toughest, most rewarding "job" of your life.

Have a great day. Talk to everyone later. If I forgotten anyone, my apologies.

We're all doing so well! Yeah-us!!! ((((hugs))))

Hi ladies,
thanksfor the encouragement.
I'm going to weigh in tomorrow morning, in case you wanted to know.
To those who lost, congrats, and keep it up. You're an inspiration!
Had a good bike today, 29 k's. My farthest so far. I bike 60min everyday.
My SIL watches Joyce Meyer everyday. I don't even know when she's on.
Good night,

Hope today finds everyone doing well. Things here are fine. I met my water goals, was op and got in 40 minutes on the elliptical. Feeling pretty good this morning. The last couple nights of sleep have been very, very restful.

Well, have a great day. Take care.

some good/ weird, and upsetting news today.

upsetting= Chris ran into a cow today on his way to work. the cow ran across the road and chris swerved to miss, but it was too late. not a lot of damage because he swerved, but still it's enough. his windshield is gone on the side (he's got a chevy lumnia van and it has like 3 windshields) and the main windshield is cracked pretty good. we have a $250 deductible so that's $250 that we weren't planning on spending. he missed an hour of work now to wait for highway patrol... ugh! he's fine though. I went to check on him- it only happened a mile from our house. he said he was fine, but he's a "man" and wouldn't admit it shook him up pretty bad. He found the cow in the ditch- I think he broke it's leg.

Now for the good/ weird news. I weighed myself today (as I do everyday) and I was back down to 173 today. how in the world did I lose 4 lbs over the course of a day?! (I did use the bathroom, but still  ) so that puts me at 178 on the curves scale meaning I stayed the same this week. Yesterday the boys were having Chicken helper and I asked Chris just to make me a plain chicken breast that I had with cheese and green peppers, and I ate well all day yesterday, less than 20 carbs (phase 1). Today I planned for 24 carbs. So maybe I'll even see an improvement tomorrow.
If this is going to work this way forever (they say it is), this is something I can stick to. Eating what I want for a while and then dieting 1-2 days and getting rid of it. the dieting isn't even so bad anyways, not really depriving myself of anything.

Interesting fact I read in Low Carb living- Your body needs carbs, because carbs= glucose (sugar). The brain is the most important part of the body that needs sugar to survive. so if you have a low carb lifestyle, and don't supply your brain with enough carbs to make sugar with, then it has to go out and look for it, in the form of protein. It takes energy for the body to break down the protein into the glucose so you're buring calories while you sit!

Not trying to get anyone onto LC, because it seems everyone's diets are working for them, but just thought it was a neat little fact.

Dena- congrats on making goal already! did you set a new one for yourself to start working on?

Amy- 6lbs! congrats! With the 4 kids and all the activities, no wonder it's falling off! you must feel so good about yourself! (and pancakes are like 32 carbs I think, so in my day of 40-60 carbs, that's most of them, the rest of the day I would need to eat very low carbs to stay good.)

Diana- way to go on the bike yesterday! keep it up!

everyone else- just stopping in to say Hi and make sure everyone's doing alright! :D

01-25-2005, 11:29 AM
Hi everyone! You all are doing very well! Wanted to tell you about a website I found. It's interesting. It's pretty much the way I am doing it. So if any of you are too, you should go check it out. It has some links to counters, calculators, etc. I am doing ok, went over a little yesterday but not in fat, just in cals. So that's a little better than going over in both! Hope to do better today. Still at over 15,000 steps a day plus all my toning exercises. The food, not going over, and all that is my hardest part... not so much the water or the exercise. Ugghh!! ah well... gotta run, keep up the good work y'all! :-)

01-25-2005, 05:39 PM
I had to take a minute to tell everyone to go look at Selina's pics! wow! Girl you do NOT look 220! I can't wait to see a picture at 200 and even goal!

keep it up! :cheer:

Hi there ladies!
I am doing well today! I bought a new The Firm video (I have a bunch, and the stuff. I LOVE them, lol). It was fun and got me back to exercising. I haven't exercised since last Wednesday :o . Anyway, I feel great. Today when I weighed in, I had lost ANOTHER pound. What is up with that anyway? I go an entire week not losing anything and then I lose two pounds in two days? Maybe I was just having weird water weight or something. Anyway, I now weigh 185. I've lost 7 pounds and feel great. I love that even with all my clothes on, at the end of the day (my heaviest weight time) the scale says under 190 (usually about 189). I just can't wait to keep losing.

Thanks for the encouragement about the kids, ladies! You all have more kids than I do! What am I complaining about?!? Seriously, I know how important and great it is being a mother, I was just having one of those days. You know?
Well, gotta go pick my son up from school.

Catch ya all later!

Hi all,
it's weird how there's a few of us that are reporting "interesting" losses. This morning I had lost 1 pound from yesterday, which is the pound I had expected to lose this last week. So now I'm saying htat this last week I lost 1 pound and not "stayed the same". Anyways, I know that sounds dumb, but hey it makes me feel better.

01-26-2005, 11:41 AM
Diana- makes me happy to say I stayed the same last week and not gained! I was the same today too- 173 naked.

I track my weight everyday on my excel spreadsheet and graph and it's been interesting (jan 12th was when I hit 173 for the first time and been bouncing along since)...
1/15/2005 175
1/16/2005 173
1/17/2005 173
1/18/2005 175
1/19/2005 176
1/20/2005 176
1/21/2005 173
1/22/2005 175
1/23/2005 176
1/24/2005 177
1/25/2005 173
1/26/2005 173

I've been eating good the past couple of days- I really want to see 172 for the first time...

01-26-2005, 12:22 PM
I got the 100 calorie packs from Curves one time in a gift bag- oreo chips.. anyways it's 100 healthy living tips- they only have 38 posted so far- but thought I'd share...

#1. Drink more water! Add a twist of lemon or lime to a tall glass of ice water and drink to your health!

#2. Find an exercise buddy at work and schedule time together to work out.

#3. Pack your own lunch and you’ll have greater control over what you’re eating.

#4. Lighten up that salad. Try dipping your fork into a side of dressing before stabbing those greens.

#5. Studies show that laughter is therapeutic, so go ahead--let loose!

#6. Try to exercise! Join a local gym or fitness center. Many facilities now offer single gender exercise rooms.

#7. Are you a morning person or an evening person? The best time of day to exercise is the time that best fits your schedule!

#8. Ordering an appetizer with that meal? Try soup made with broth instead of higher calorie menu items.

#9. Consider raking leaves or shoveling snow as an opportunity. A finished job is very rewarding and a good way to burn some calories!

#10. Combine exercise with your top priorities. Catch the morning news while on the treadmill or go for a walk with a friend.

#11. Take your kids to the park and join in the fun. Leave that park bench empty!

#12. Challenge your kids to a game of basketball, volleyball or even duck, duck, goose!

#13. Start a walking club in the neighborhood. It's a great way to combine exercise and a chat with friends.

#14. Slow down when you eat. Taking the time to enjoy the food will make you aware of when you are full.

#15. Get ready to dance. It's a great way to get in some exercise and have fun with your kids.

#16. Watching TV? Try some stretching or stepping as you catch your favorite show.

#17. Remember to eat breakfast – it’s the most important meal of the day and the one that gets your body going.

#18. Teach your kids to play baseball, basketball or your favorite sport. It's great for them and you'll get some exercise too!

#19. Participate in a charity walk. It's a great way to get some exercise while you help others.

#20. Exercise for healthy bones. Walking (or other weight-bearing exercise) is a great activity that can help maintain bone density!

#21. Enjoy the great outdoors. No matter the time of year, outside activities can raise your spirits and keep you motivated.

#22. Get the whole family moving to foster physical activity and build family memories.

#23. Think of a snack as a small meal. It can give you an energy boost and help bridge the gap between regular meals.

#24. Exercise during rush hour! When you're finished, your commute will be easier and quicker.

#25. Salad plates aren’t just for salad anymore – serve up dinner on a smaller plate to keep sensible portions in perspective.

#26. Kids sporting events are a great opportunity to exercise. Don't sit in the bleachers, walk the perimeter of the field as you cheer on those pint size athletes!

#27. Exercise can be fun--think of it as recess for adults.

#28. Eating out? Choose menu items listed as baked, broiled, grilled, poached or roasted.

#29. Be sure to get your rest. Choose a comfortable pillow and you’re on your way.

#30. It's okay to have small indulgences. Just be sure to use portion control.

#31. Be a role model. Your children are more likely to embrace healthy eating and exercise if they watch you lead the way!

#32. Jazz up mundane household chores with some music, get your feet moving, and have fun!

#33. Get moving after a meal. Walk around the block after dinner or visit a friend down the street.

#34. Eating out? Try to avoid that basket of bread on the table and save your appetite (and calories) for the meal.

#35. As you begin to feel and look fitter and healthier, you may gain confidence.

#36. Reward fitness milestones with new exercise gear or a post-workout massage.

#37. Let your tummy do the talking – when you start to feel full, put down the fork and pick up the conversation.

#38. Get a little exercise by walking around the mall for 15 minutes before you start shopping.

Wow, Kandice, those are some wonderful tips. Thank you!
You're doing great. Keep up the great work.

The past few days I've been really struggling. I don't know why. It seems I do really great for a while, and then I forget everything I learned. I think it's that darn scale. I know I lost inches, but was truly discouraged when the scale hasn't budged. So, now that I pulled myself up again, I'm going to try a lower carb version of what I've been doing. And see how that works. Wish me luck, because I've tried something like that before, and I'm not that good at it. Kandice, how do you do it? I need your support now.
Thanks and hugs,
Dena

01-26-2005, 06:47 PM
Dena, you can do it!!! I went ot a step aerobics class at the gym today, and if I can do that, you can do anything. They have childcare during their aerobics classes so it is an option for me. I'm going out for a while, need some different scenery.

01-26-2005, 08:28 PM

Thanks for your encouragement! I'm doing better now. I guess I needed a change in scenery, too. I think this crazy weather has something to do with it. It's been raining and chilly again. All you want to do is stay warm and eat. Not good. I decided to go to the gym (which is not easy when you are on a downward spiral), But after I went, I felt better. In fact, I went on the elliptical for 10 minutes today! I also did the treadmill and weight machines.

Diana, good for you for going to the aerobics class!! And thank you for caring. You really helped.

01-26-2005, 10:00 PM
Hey peeps! Hope everyone is doing well tonight. I am still hungry after I'm done with my calories.. but working on that. Opting to fill up with veggies along with my meals. Should help. :dizzy:

I weighed today.. ::: drum roll ::: ...... I'm 213 3/4! Down from 277. I'm so excited. Over 7 pounds gone since Christmas. I like weighing about once a month. I always have lost. No getting upset every day looking at the never-moving scale. I hate those things. I measure every Sunday morning tho. So glad I'm losing a little there too. :)

Kandice, Ty so much for the sweet compliments. Other ppl have told me that, but you can't see my bottom half in those pics! I gain in my hips, rear, stomach and thighs. It sucks. Uggh. Working on that tho! :D I show my shoulders and arms now alot bc I have worked on them so much, and it's finally showing in definition. I never had that b4. They were big, white flabby arms b4.

Amy.. I know! I have those days too. Sometimes we just needa vent! Congrats on the loss!

Diana, Any loss in any form is a great thing! Good 4 you!

Yay Dena! 10 minutes, Wow! :cheer: You are getting on up there huh? Good job!

If I missed anyone from recent posts, I'm sorry! I'm sorta in a hurry too this week... so much going on.
Oh, if anyone wants to see my webpage, I have more pics there and tips and my food list, etc. You are welcome to it. I think this will get you there.

Talk to you soon! Hugs, Selina

Thanks Diana! The pic I have on there is too big! I will be putting a recent smaller one on instead this week. Hope everyone has a great day.

Hi Mary! Congrats on the two pound loss!! :cheer:

Hugs to you all! Bye!

01-27-2005, 10:10 AM
Dena- Low carb is hard, the first couple of weeks are the toughest, so hang in there if you decide to do it... cravings do diminish (don't go away completely EVER!) and you get some energy back. that was my biggest problem when I started LC- lack of energy. It is frustrating when the scale doesn't move, but just hang in there... at least it's not moving the other way!! :D and 10 minutes?! you must be so proud of yourself! :cheer:

selina- it's all in my bottom too. I've always liked my arms though, so all my pictures are from the waist up too. looking real good!

trying to decide if I want to get weighed measured today. Tomorrow looks really busy at work and I'm not sure if I'll get to go to Curves and I can't go after work because we're going to get our marriage license at 3 and then spend some time with Chris' mom. She lives in the county seat city, where we need to get our license.
I definitely don't want to get measured on Monday after 2 days of lounging around... don't want 2 days to ruin my whole month.... guess you'll know when I come back after lunch!

have a great day everyone!

(PS dena- Have you checked out how many views we have? and 14 pages?! this thread is hopping! thanks again for setting it up!)

01-27-2005, 10:35 AM
tip #39 for the day

#39. Want to make those crunches go quickly? Try doing sit-ups while watching your favorite TV program to add some entertainment to your exercise routine.

And I forgot to say congrats to selina for the loss! Congrats! :cheer:

01-27-2005, 12:53 PM
Just a quick note to say that I'm back on track today. What a difference a day makes! I was totally overwhelmed yesterday. I guess we all get those kind of days. I'm usually pretty outgoing and optimistic, but maybe I've been staying indoors too much or watching too much news on TV.

Thank you Kandice, Diana, and Selina for your kind words and cheers. I really love our group!

I was inpired by Oprah yesterday on TV. She looks great, so I looked up here web site to see what plan she is on. It's kind of a low carb thing. 3 lean meats per day, no white carbs (bread, pasta, cookies), lots of greens and 2 fruits a day. I think I'll try that. Plus the other part is exercise... 30 minutes cardio, 30 minutes weights 6 x a week. I've been doing that about 5x, so I'm almost there. It's the food part that gets to me!

Selina, your pictures are awesome!!!

Sorry I don't have time to write to everyone today.

Take care and hugs,
Dena

01-27-2005, 02:38 PM
yay for dena to get back on track!

I did get measured today because Chris is getting his car fixed tomorrow which leaves me without a car to go to curves tomorrow and Monday weigh ins are scary... I weighed 178.75 down 5.25 lbs and down 2.5 inches (.25 on my bust, .75 on my waist, .5 on my abs, .5 on my hips, and .5 on my thighs) every 1/4 of an inch is a step right? my body fat was back down to 30% too after it went up last month. ( In nov it was 29.9, december 30.4 and january 30.0)

Unbelievable= 46.5 inches since beginning, 25.5 lbs, and 16.63 lbs of body fat. Pretty happy with myself.

They asked me if I was at goal yet, and I said no- 23 more lbs to go... they looked up in my folder and said I was far past my inches goal... when I signed up for curves they did my measurements and to get into a size 11/12 I had to lose 20 something inches... (those 20 inches haven't been where I need them  ) so I got my name on the wall as an amazing loser. Yay me!!

01-27-2005, 02:58 PM
hello ladie and good moring,
i'm up for the challange. i lost 2 lbs this week of the 10 i want to lose for valentines day. i am ready to rock and roll. this is the year i get health. personaly, emotionaly, and spiritualy. i think the whole body is important. so am looking forward to great things. hope you have been kind to yourselves this week. if you gained last week. that is last week and you WILL get back on track this week. you GET to start a whole new plan this week. it would be fun to here what some of you are doing. is it a diet, if so what one? excersice, waht kind? water intake or something else remember we only pass this way once. so let give it our bst shot. YAH! WE CAN DO IT! how do you get the pictures in your messages and the color print. i really like it when you anser people back with different colors. have a great day.
kind regards,

01-27-2005, 04:38 PM
Ty :-). I am really happy about it!

Question: How do you all count your inches? I only count one bicep, one thigh, one calf, my hips, waist and chest measurement. Should I add in the other bicep, thigh and calf?? This is for when I want a total of inches lost.

Ok, doing well with my food.. but staying on the high end closer to 1500 a day..with about 20 grms of fat. Still jogging 30 mins a day.. plus my other daily toning stuff, leg lifts, etc. Not meeting water goals every day. Just not thirsty.. it's cold outside! Uggh!! Anyone else have this problem?

I went online today. and it helped me. I wrote down the grilled chicken sandwiches, soups, veggies, subs, and desserts I might eat out and are ok with my plan, not too high in fat. That way I can add them in and not guess at how bad they are! Cuz sometimes, you needa eat out. I try to bring food with me every time I go for a long day of errands, etc. but if I really want hot food, I need to know my facts so I can choose wisely, you know?

Thanks for your help about the inches! Talk to you all soon.

Oh and thanks for all the congrats~ I just gotta stay with this and I'm ok. No backsliding!!! LOL.

01-27-2005, 05:10 PM
selina- curves doubles the arms and thighs and then bust, waist, abs, hips = total inches. I wish they would do the calves because I know my calves have gotten nicer- and I didn't even have a problem with them before!

almost time to go home! have a great night!

01-27-2005, 05:16 PM
Hey ladies! How goes it? I am doing well today. I have exercised the last few days and stayed within my calorie limit (1500 is my goal, although I have been closer to 1300 lately).
Mary- Hi and welcome. I am new, too. I am calorie counting. I do it all on I love them! I aim for 1500 a day (that is what the calculators say I should eat to lose 2 pounds a week). I also aim to exercise at least 4 times a week. When I start to plateau I will up the exercise. So far it's gone great. I haven't felt deprived at all. I've lost 7 pounds in the first two weeks. I also watch my fat intake...which brings me to Selina...

Selina-everything I have read says that you shouldn't go under 20% fat content, even when dieting. Normally you should aim for 30%. Isn't that right?I try to keep between 20-25% fat. However that is more like 40 grams of fat a day. You are only around 12% at 20 grams. I admit that I struggle sometimes getting up to 20%. When you eat food low in calories, they often don't have much fat.According to some different medical sites, you are unlikely to feel satiated when you eat lower than 30% and you are much more likely to binge. Anyway, what you're doing seems to be working so I guess you're fine. Just wanted to make sure that you knew.

Kandice-I'm jealous of all those inches! Way to go girl! I can tell that I am losing inches (especially around the middle, where most of my weight is). I don't know what I was when I started, or even what I am now. I need to measure! Also, thanks for the tips!

Dena-I've been inspired by Oprah, too. Doesn't she look fantastic?!? I still could never do low carb, though. I dislike meat too much, lol!

May the force be with you.
Amy, who is in a weird Star Wars mood. ;)

01-31-2005, 09:47 AM
how is everyone? Monday morning!

I have a new low (saturday and sunday) of 172! yay! back to 173 today though... so probably 178 still at curves, I'll know at lunch time though.
Still the 172 is real good news, trend has it that I'll bounce along between 172- 175 now and then lose a couple more lbs.

Not much else from me right now- trying to thaw out from the ice this weekend...

Have a great day and talk to you all later!

01-31-2005, 11:01 AM
Good morning ladies! I had my official weigh in this morning and I have lost 9 pounds!!! Only one more to go for my 10 pound goal by valentines day! I am doing well and will add more later, but my baby is screaming for me.

Good morning everyone
Sorry I haven't been around in awhile, I have been working some very starnge hours at work extra ones and I have been on the computer typing tons of stuff at work so I just haven't been able to come home and get on here, but the crazy hours are over so here I am. I actually think I worked too many extra hours and I ended up being sick on my weekend off and because I work in a Nursing home I had to take today off as well, I feel better but we have to be 48hrs symptom free from a gastrobug before we can go back so I'm taking my time off now to be here. I'm down about another 3 lbs this week so that makes me feel better. I tried to make sure that even with all the extra work time I put in that I still made time for my exercise. I didn't get to the gym as much I think just 2x but I made sure I was doing my walking tape for 30 mins most days. I think I did it 5 out of seven days. I am not up to it today but hopefully I will be back at it tomorrow. Hope everyone has a good day.

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Iím just about caught up with work and ready to join in the discussion again. I didnít check in at all last week, and it took me while to read all the messages. Wow, what a great group!

I didnít report in last Monday, so my combined weight loss for last week and this week is 4.5 pounds. Two pounds a week is what Iíve been aiming for, so Iím right on target. There was one week in early January that I didnít lose anything and stayed the same (the week of the big storm), but other than that, Iím doing well.

Reading so many posts all at once, instead of one at a time, the thing that jumps out at me is how we all have our highs and lows, good days and bad days, triumphs and discouragements, and through it all the other members of the Valentinies are there to listen and offer encouragement. I guess thatís why itís called a Support Group. :balloons:

Have a good week everyone,

P.S: Dena, I really like the logo by your name. I think itís a good fit.

Just checking in. Busy week last week so no time to talk. I am doing well with my exercise and water goals. I stepped on the scales this morning and was down another pound! Woo-hoo! That's four pounds gone. 3.5 for Vday goal. I have set the goal of being under 200 by my bday in May and, by golly, I'm just stubborn enough to do it! :D

Congrats to all the other "losers"! Keep up the good work.

Welcome to our newbies as well.

Keep up the good work, ladies. We can do it. Thanks for all the posts. It's very encouraging just to know we are not in this thing by ourselves! Have a great day. Be kind to yourself.

Hi Everyone!

Checking in to say I just came back from the gym, where I spent 30 minutes on the treadmill, 30 minutes with the weight machines and "11" minutes on the elliptical!! 30 minute goal on the ellliptical here I come. :D

Hey everyone! Sounds like you all are right on track! Cool!

Well, I took a deep breath today and registered to be in Houston's 96.5 radio Biggest Loser challenge. Wish me luck that I get chosen! (Although, we do have four million people here and only eight get to do it.) :?: So we'll see. We'll have to be at Bally's at 7pm to work out with our teams. Two teams of four. No one gets kicked off. We all stay til the end. Winner gets a trip to Florida all paid. Second gets a year at Bally's. I think I would be fine with that one. Dunno about a trip. But I want the

I have done ok this week. I'm sick with a cold and three of my five kids have been sick for days, fever, coughing, sneezing, vomiting (one). Uggh! So needless to say, I barely hit 5,000 steps today (but managed 10K on the other days). I'm out of it. I hate being sick. :(

Hello Dollar! Nice to meet you. Congrats on your loss!

Florafae, Yay! 4.5 lbs gone! You are doing great!

Skinny, You'll hit that Onederland goal. I'm right with you on it too. I'm aiming for April - 199 lbs. We'll see! :D

WTG Amy! 9lbs. gone! Great!

Thanks Kandice and Amy for the good advice. ;)

Kandice, how can you stand that scale. I hate them! I'd go nuts watching it bounce around. I do know eventually I'll break down and get one though. But I'll want a good one. A doctor's type.

Mary, keep it up. You are doing very well. I'm not doing a specific diet. Just low fat, average calories, 1500 or less usually. Exercise often. More water, etc. Working ok so far! Hope it doesn't turn on me. :^:

Dena, cool! Up to 11 minutes! Yay! :cheer:

Well, if I missed anyone, I'm sorry. Just trying to keep up with all of you! We all seem to be moving right along. Before we know it, our thread will be named. Been There, Done That, Now Let's Maintain!

Bye for now! ;)

02-01-2005, 09:52 AM
Wow to everyone!

Amy- 9 lbs! holy moly! you'll surpass your goal! way to go!

Dollar- 3 lbs this week! Excellent!

Flora- Congrats on staying right on track! 4.5 lbs in 2 weeks! :cheer:

Skinny- every lb is a lb closer to Onederland! you'll get there!

Dena- congrats on the 11 minutes! you must be so happy (motivated!) with your improvement!

Selina- good luck on the biggest loser! I played survivor in college one weekend and I loved it- I was the last 3 too! :D not the same I know, but the small spinoffs can be so fun! When do you find out?
And the scale- I do hate to see it bounce along, but it's been long enough now that I "know" my bounces- it's usually within 3-4 lbs of each other and then I'll drop. Like this weekend- 172, now I'll go between 172 and 175 for a week or so- never up to 177 or more again. and if I do get up there then I know I have to adjust my eating habits. I'd rather face up to it day by day then wait a week and then be shocked at the end of the week and be stressed- "wow- I gained 5 lbs this week!" I think it gives me more of a true number, just in case if I happen to weigh on a fat day.

Have a great day everyone! (and selina- I love the "been there, LOST FAT (a play on done that), now lets maintain" challenge!)

Morning Everyone!

Just wanted to say hi from sunny Las Vegas (around 60 degrees today). I've been going for my morning walks again now that the weather is better.
And yesterday I did "12" minutes on the elliptical with my usual treadmill/weight machine workout. Maybe today I'll try for 13! Still doing good on my eating plan and water.

Glad to hear we are all doing real well. Keep up the great work, everyone!

Kandice, congrats on your new low! :)

Selina, I hope you get well soon. Sorry you and your kiddies are sick. :(

Skinny, congrats on another lb. lost! :)

Florafae, wow, 4.5 lbs!!! :D

Dollar, glad to see you back! Good for you for sticking with it with a busy schedule. :)

Amy, congrats on the 9 lbs.!! :D

Have a great day, everyone!
Dena

so I changed my ticker (finally!) Today was my third day at 172 and I weighed at curves and I was 176.5 and I'm not going back up, the ticker will hold me accountable- as you ladies do too!

1.5 more lbs to the valentines (and my wedding day) goal! I would love to get there next week!

and next monday I'm going to get my wedding dress altered again because Carrie at Curves told me I had lost 16 lbs since my alteration! but YAY! I want the dress to look like it was made for ME and fit ME perfect!

02-03-2005, 11:39 AM
Morning ladies!
You know I just had to say that no matter how skinny I get I am never going to look like that lady on the side panel in the jeans, lol. When I was in high school and my very fittest (I played basketball and was naturally small) I never looked like that! I only weighed 105 pounds! My thighs always touched though. See how her's don't even touch all the way up? I will never have a body like that and it's okay! That is the problem with this world. Everyone is trying to attain a body like that and if you are not genetically formed that way it's nearly impossible to get a body like that!

Okay, sorry, time to get off my high horse, lol!!! I am doing okay today. I feel down for some reason. Sometimes it feels like my progress is so small and that I have such a LONG way to go. It can get depressing. I know that I am smaller than I was and I feel great about that, but I just have such a long way to go!!!

Hi guys!

I did 16 minutes on the elliptical today! :D Plus the usual treadmill and weight machines. And I don't know how but I hurt my knee. So it may be just all treadmill tomorrow. We'll see.

Hope everyone had a great day.

Hey everybody!!! :)

Back on here after my trip to Florida, which was just great. Was gone from Saturday, January 22, came home this past Wednesday, Feb. 2. To be honest, that was about 12 days of eating out every day!!! I thought I would have gained a TON!!!:o But actually I only gained about a pound and a half. The Friday that I left here, I was solidly 35 pounds off. So now I am about 33 and 1/2 off. I hope to be back to 35 off by Monday, plus a little more by Feb. 14. I don't think I am going to reach my goal of 195 by the 14th, but that's okay......... maybe I'll lose a couple of more next week, and maybe be 197, if not 195.

I am now into a size XL in most things, rather than a 1X, so that feels real good!!! Just bought a Speedo size 16 swimsuit, and am now wearing XL Denim and Co. leggings. YES!!!:smug:

So happy to hear about how well you're all doing. I knew you would!!! I went back to work out in the pool last night for the first time since the back seized up on January 17, and I didn't have a problem. I am staying off the weights until next week, as I don't want to push it.

So happy to be back, and looking forward to hearing from all of you! Have a wonderful weekend............. (Go EAGLES!!!!:p )

02-04-2005, 04:09 PM
wow- bonnie! show us pictures! glad you had a good trip. a lb and a half is NOTHING! I hope that's all I gain on the honeymoon (and wedding cake and grooms cake- made of Krispy Kreme doughnuts)

and by the way- Go PATS! I'm a Yank, born and bred! (last year was interesting being my first year down south and the pats and panthers!)

02-04-2005, 04:58 PM
 Will the Groom's Cake really be KK doughnuts? What a hoot...........:D

I WAS an Eagles fan for many years because we lived in the Philly area long ago, BUT the real reason I'm pulling AGAINST the Pats is that they beat my Panthers last year!!! Still AIN'T over it!!!:( :( ......................................

Kandice, I'm really surprised that I didn't gain more. When you're not used to "eating normally," you feel so bloated so quickly when you eat whatever and don't count calories or watch the fat. You feel like you're being worse than you really are, I guess.

Kandice, you are doing great, and going to be one beautiful bride, I know. Sorry, I'm not good with putting pictures on, etc., so you'll just have to imagine the beautiful palms, purple bougainvillea and crystal-clear waters on the Gulf Coast!:)

02-04-2005, 05:07 PM
hi to you all,
it's a fabulous friday. it's been another week of no contact. i don't know if am even contacting people or if my messages are going to "lost in space." this is all so new. i have never been on a site like this. i don't know what i'm doing. i hope you are all doing well. isn't life great. i just keep plunking away at the keyboard hoping someone is out there. i love it. we are in this together. on step at a time. with a little help from those who are in the same position. i care about you because your are worth caring about. just because i can't see you doesn't mean you have been forgotten. or who have been there. loving life is a great challange when som many things go one nationally and at the locat level. the news can make things look pretty bleck.

02-04-2005, 05:57 PM
yup- the grooms "cake" is KKs. We're big simpsons fans so we got homer and marge made for a grooms cake topper (with our colors- Marge is carrying a purple and white bouquet) and we're going to make a pyramid of KKs... mmmmm. My fam has never had KKs- it's all DD up there- so they'll be in for a treat!

hold on- let me see if I can find a pic of them... I was so happy with the guy that made them for us.

02-06-2005, 11:35 AM
:coffee: Hi ladies, how are you all? Where are my old buddies, Florafae, SkinnyButt, Dena, Dollar, and all you other nice ladies............ this weekend??? It's been pretty quiet here. Kandice, that cake topper is hilarious. Except I think you should put it on YOUR cake!:D (Wouldn't that get your Mother screaming!!!??? My son had monkeys on his groom's cake!:o )

I'm having a hard time getting back on my program, really. Friday I simply starved............ it was cold, rainy and raw here all day, and my friend and I ended up having two watermelon martinis and a big bowl of popcorn Friday night as we played cards, after we'd been good all day! :( So I probably ended up at about 2300 calories. Saturday, I had 1800 to 1900 calories.

Today I MUST be better.......... My weight is 201, two pounds up from my 35 lb. loss! Hope I will drop some of it by tomorrow. I did get in the water on Thursday night, and will walk as soon as it warms up today. I *may* go do weights this evening if my friend gets home from a trip in time to go with me. The truth is that I'm afraid of the weights (especially the leg exercises) because I think I hurt my back with them. I have to be so darned careful with it!!! BUT I can take walks and do gentle water exercises in the meantime. I can never STOP exercising totally again!

I must get back on track.... I am just going to get started, then I will go for a week in New England starting Feb. 19 or so, but I am telling myself that I cannot overeat the way I did in Florida. I must eat in moderation........ practically stick to the *diet* on this trip. You cannot keep throwing caution to the wind as I did in Florida. I'll wake up with tight jeans again!!!:o

Oh, well, enough moaning from the Peanut Gallery here. Hope you all have wonderful weigh-ins tomorrow. I'll be happy if I've lost one of my *travel pounds.*

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, ladies, and  GO EAGLES!!!

02-06-2005, 06:54 PM
Hi you all! Glad to see you are all on track! Knowing that keeps me going. ;-) I want to be proud of my accomplishments too when I come to chat!

Bonnie, Glad you had fun on your trip and u didn't gain much at all!! I know you will get back on track now! I have faith in you! :cheer:

Crafty, I agree. Even tho I can't see you and the others, I still think of you often and hope u are having a good day. I don't forget you since I can't see you. I'm happy to have made friends here. My 'losing' buddies are the best! I'm thankful for you all. :-)

Amy, I know how you feel. I have those days sometimes. Seems like its hard to not eat what every other person around you is eating, drinking more water than they are, exercising more than them, and they are small. I've never been small in my whole life. I gained too much weight the year I turned five and i've yo-yo'd ever since. Big from then on tho. I feel younger now than when I was in high school. I can never say I want to be like I was in school because I'm smaller now! LOL. My thighs have always touched too.. I'm almost there tho, where they won't. I can't wait. At least you were sorta small before and you know how it feels, I don't. So I'm entering a whole new arena. I've never, I mean never, since I've been about 11 bought anything that wasn't XL or bigger. So never since I've been grown. Just getting into a large will be great. Either way, you and I are on a journey. And we need to keep our chins up and our eyes forward and our thoughts positive. We CAN do this! :cheer:

Dena, you are doing just great on that elliptical. You've gone up so much on minutes!

Kandice, I'm soooo excited for you! It's gonna be a great wedding! Homer and Marge are really really cute too! Smart idea! Hey, when is the wedding again?

I have been sick lately still, can't seem to get over it. My son is sick too, on meds now.. took him to the doc, he has an ear infection too. But even tho I'm sick and taking care of sick ppl too, I'm staying a little above 10,000 steps a day. If any of you count steps too, go to and sign up. It's neat. After 3 days of logging steps, it sets you a daily goal. Also, you get to choose a virtual trail to walk. Mine is the Lewis and Clark trail. It's fun. I'm with the group At Anyway, it makes me even more determined bc I want to surpass my goal every day. So far I have for every day this month. I have gone over my cals a little on 3 different days, but not too bad. I also measured myself and I'm only 1/2 in. away from my valentine's goal. I hit my waist and hip 1 inch off! Yay! But my chest is still .5 away from it... only lost .5 there. One more week!

Well, have a great week everyone! Oh and does anyone else find it hard to drink enough water even when that's all you drink? I'm just not thirsty.

I'll come back when I have more time! This week has been so busy. Uggh!!

02-07-2005, 09:36 AM
selina- wedding = march 5th- 26 more days! so excited- going to make up programs tonight probably. after work I got get fitted again... and I think I'm going to need it taken in again because... drum roll please...

Chris and I went shopping friday night for honeymoon clothes and I found a couple skorts that I liked- thought they'd be "dressy" enough if we went anywhere during the day (we're going to the bahamas with carnival cruise lines)

so anyways, I picked up a size 14 and I said I was going to try on a size 12 too just to see. made chris wait outside the dressing room. I came out and asked him what he thought- he said "they look real good, are those the 14s?" NO! they're 12! he was shocked!

Chris picked up a couple pair of shorts for him and a couple bathing suits.

oh and I almost forgot- when we got home- I was curious as to whether my shorts from last year would fit... looked at the size- 18! I tried them on and could easily pull a couple inches from them. I made Chris take a picture with me holding them out. So when I get the film developed I'll surely post it.

Man it feels so good. When I started Curves I told them my goal was to wear a size 10 or 155 lbs whichever came first... I'm pretty close to GOAL! :cheer:

hope everyone else is doing great!

(and the eagles put up a good fight for my pats- a lot closer than I expected! we had a pool going at work and I had a 20 point spread (34-14 Pats)- so obviously I lost, oh well)

02-07-2005, 10:00 AM
OMG! Congrats Kandice! Woohoo! I know that feels goooood! :cheer:

You are doing so well! Keep it up! Yay!! You might need it taken in much more by then! Send us pics, definitely!

I posted a photo on the gallery .. It's under Selina in size 18 shorts... got into them fine, just too snug when sitting. I have no head because I had to take the pic with my webcam. :-)

Gotta run, have a great day everyone!

02-07-2005, 10:56 AM
:balloons: for you, Kandice. I'm so happy for you. It's good to get into a smaller size of something, isn't it??? Congratulations on your super new *bod.*:smug:

I wouldn't know what size to call myself now, after 35 lbs. off ........... I guess mostly an *extra-large* at this point. I started at a mostly 2X so that's a big improvement for me. But, of course, I wear different sizes of different garments, depending on the brand and the cut. I am almost entirely out of my *plus* sizes now, and it's a good feeling to have a *new body* after so many years!:)

When I weighed today, I'm still up one pound of vacation weight. I intend to lose a couple of pounds by the end of our Challenge next Monday. It won't be five more, as I intended, but I think I can count on a couple more off. I intend to walk (I DID walk a half hour yesterday.... felt so good to get out!) and get in the water as much as I can this week; also, do the weights for at least my upper body.

Soon2B, just drink a small glass of water whenever you wash your hands, for instance. I LOVE water, but even if you don't, a small glass is down before you know it, and by bedtime, you will have had more than enough! (I don't think you need to drink anymore than about 2 quarts a day on top of the water you get in food. I was just reading the Volumetrics book, and that's what they say.........)

Girls, have a great day! :cheer: :grouphug: to all of you! Hope you all have great good luck with the scale and the tape measure. (Kandice, how does the scale measure your body fat along with your weight? I was reading about those scales in Prevention; don't understand how they work! I know you can buy them; I'm going to check at the Y to see if they have one I can weigh on, to check my body fat %.)

02-07-2005, 11:40 AM
Bonnie- Curves has a "electric" body fat % "reader". I know those aren't the correct terms- but hopefully you know what I'm saying. They punch in your weight/ height/ age and then you hold onto the reader- it's metal- a lot like a pulse machine and after a few seconds it comes out and tells you what your bf% is and what your BMI is too.

Selina- checked out the pic- very good! keep it up! (can see your pedometer in it too! :D )

02-07-2005, 11:43 AM
Hi everyone! Hugs to you all. It's Monday, and official weigh in day for me. Now, for MY drumroll...

HOORAY, I hit my Valentines Day goal!!!! I am down 10 pounds! I am so happy. DH is going to take me out dancing on Friday to celebrate (that was my planned reward if I made my goal. I am so happy! Yesterday I spent like 20 minutes trying on clothes (at home :dizzy: ). I have lots of smaller clothes. I was so happy to find that I fit in TONS of stuff that I didn't just a month ago! Losing weight makes you feel so great!!!

Kandice-CONGRATS on the size 12!!! I can't wait until I am comfortably in size 12!!!!! I am currently more in size 14, but some 12's (those made from stretch material  do fit). Doesn't it feel great to be SMALLER???

Soon2Be-I have trouble hitting my water goal, too. I love water, especially cold from the fridge, but I just seem to forget sometimes. I am going to work on that this week.

Tobaccy-It is great to have you back! Hope you had a FABULOUS time! I know that you will lose that "tiny" gain you had. You did a fantastic job not gaining 10 pounds like I probably would have :o !

Cheers to you all!

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Kandice, I canít believe it is so close to the wedding. How do you concentrate at work? I am so proud of you for reaching a size 12! That is so cool. :dancer:

Bonnie, glad to hear you had a good vacation and that your back is no longer hurting.

Selina, thanks for the tip on the ďstepsĒ website. Youíve convinced me to buy a pedometer. I hope youíre feeling better soon.

Amy, I too have a long way to go and have days when I feel so discouraged. It seems as if it will take forever to reach a healthy weight. I just try to remind myself to stay focused on my short-term goal and not look too far ahead.

As for my weekly weigh-in, the scale showed I was only down one-half pound. I did well all week, but yesterday I succumbed to the Super Bowl chips and dip. I didnít eat all that much of it, but it definitely put me over my calorie limit for the day, and the salt probably contributed to water retention. Oh well, at least the scales were tipped in the right direction and I didnít gain weight.

I canít believe there is only one more week on our challenge. It sure went by quickly.

Wishing you all the best, :flow2:

02-07-2005, 06:36 PM
good after noon ladies,

:flow1: BIG congratulations to all your losers, Mary, Florafae, Amy, Kandice!!! :D :flow1: So proud of you all......... To those, like *moi*, who are dropping not quite so much/not quite so easily right now, hang on, ladies! You will...........:dizzy: I am famous for holding a plateau for almost three weeks, then I'll drop three lbs. That's when I'm truly being good. (One can't expect to be losing when just returning from a 12 day vacation, now, can one???!!!:^: )

You go, girls!!! :cheer:

02-08-2005, 09:19 AM
:flow2: Okay, ladies! I'm back to 199 as of this morning! YIPPEE! :flow2:

Now, I have until next Monday to try to lose a pound or two for the Valentinie Challenge (instead of the five I promised!:( ) Oh, well, all 35 lbs. is still off.......... a real accomplishment for me!:)

WHERE IS OUR DENA, who's kept us all marching in step? We haven't heard from her since about last Friday, when she said she'd hurt her knee. :( I'm worried about you, Dena! Let us hear from you! Hugs to you......... Sure hope your knee is doing better!:^:

Have a good day, all! :flow2:

02-08-2005, 10:17 AM
Bonnie- congrats! stay on this side now! it feels so good!

flora- I can't focus- I made up my programs yesterday during some down time at work and planning on finishing them today- I would love to be able to take them to the printer this afternoon and get that checked off. but that's to be expected right? getting paid to plan my wedding...

Superbowl sunday did it for me- too embarrassed to say I went up 4 lbs yesterday, but dropped 2 as of this morning, so hopefully a couple more tomorrow and I'll be back to my 176 again.

got my dress realtered last night. Lady was kinda mad at me for losing more weight and making her fix the dress again, but oh well. It'll be ready feb 25th. She was mad that it's so close- it's not my fault- I called you last week and asked if I could come in. You could've squeezed me in then. oh well! she said this time she's going to take in the zipper. Last time she took in the sides and said that I'd lose a lot of the beads if she took in the sides again... so she's going to take in the back this time. The dress was a size 16- so making it a size 12 (or less because I'm smaller on top where it's fitted) of course it's a pain. She had an attitude about my slip too (crinoline?) . I bought a size 16 slip and I asked her if I could just trade- for a smaller one- it's only been worn twice for the fittings, she was going to charge me again!! said keep the old one then and deal! I'm not paying for another slip when there's nothing wrong with this one, besides it's too big (it makes little creases under the dress around my waist)! but she gave in and gave me smaller one before I left.

I AM a princess and I want to feel like a princess and like the dress was made for me on the wedding day- not like I'm playing dress up in Mom's clothes that are too big. that dress, when I'm done with it, will be a mold of my body!

02-08-2005, 11:00 AM
I was going through my pics to show my flowers to Jenn in another post, and came across this.... (see I'm not the only one with a KK "cake")

02-08-2005, 05:13 PM
Hi all, sorry I've been away for, like, 2 weeks. My life has been crazy busy, Had tons of visitors for a while and we're building a new house, so that means lots of appointments, and I'm starting 2 new jobs (both casual) but still, there are so many things they need from me even before I start, and with a little guy, leaving hte house is always a chore.

Well, I'm only down four for V-Day, I guess I still have a week, but I know I won't hit my 10 pound mark. Hey, at least I'm down.

Congrats to all the new smaller sizes, that is the true measure of improvement on the body!!! :cb: :cb: It's really exciting!

I like the Simpsons cake topper. Very cute.

02-09-2005, 10:34 AM
Hey Diana, glad to see you again!!! I was away for a couple of weeks also, until a few days ago. We're in the same boat........... not meeting our Valentinie Challenge because of *this and that.* I ate *off-program* my entire vacation so I can't expect otherwise! BUT I still have five days before the 14th to lose a pound or two, and as long as our scales are going down............ however much .............. THAT'S OKAY!!!! A year ago, I was 35 pounds heavier! And you have done very well; even though you haven't lost all that you intended, you're going in the right direction. Congratulations on what you have done!!!

Well, did the weights last night, a cautious version, shall we say. The trainer said the most likely culprit in the back aggravation is the leg press. Says you can really hurt your back if you try to push too much weight with that, and don't keep your form exactly as it should be. So I dropped the weight back, and am really going to be careful with that thing. I remember, as I upped the weight, thinking "maybe this is a little heavy"........... should have listened to my innervoice, shouldn't I? Always listen to your own body.......... that's what I'm learning.

Kandice, that cake topper is a hoot, and the KK cake is a great idea for your groom's cake. Will you go to Winston and get the doughnuts fresh out of the bakery the morning/afternoon of the rehearsal dinner? That's a *cake* everybody will enjoy.

WHERE IS OUR DENA? I'm afraid she's really hurt her knee, and is down about it. ((((((((DENA)))))))))) Let us hear from you.......... you're our CHIEF! :-) When my knee *blew out* last summer, it was so depressing.

Good luck to all as we head into the home stretch for Monday!!! (I keep having testy situations.... tonight is the Duke-Carolina game, friend coming to watch on widescreen TV with me, trying not to overeat and drink!!! LIFE!) Have a great day, all!

bonnie- of course "fresh" kks! Chris and the boys are going to Winston on thursday night to get their tuxes, so they'll get them then. Friday is just too busy- Chris is going to work until 2 pm, I'm getting a mani with the girls and then going to workout with them and then going for a good lunch. and then the rehearsal at 6- it's in dobson- so about 45 mins away... not a lot of time to go to W-S- about 35-40 minutes from us. 1 day old KKs are still yummy though!

I'm back down to 176- after the terrible weekend. so just 1 more lb to go to get to the v-day (wedding day) goal. so close!

mad at the future in-laws this morning.. so Chris' brother owns his own flower shop and I thought that they were going to give us the flowers for our wedding present- that's been said somewhere- his mom or something, we just didn't get it from ourselves. anyways, got an email from david, Chris' brother, and we owe $300 something now. Ugh! I thought we had taken care of most the wedding bills and now this! and his own brother! it probably cost them less- maybe 1/2- the Sister in law owns her own salon too- and they're pretty well off. just makes me mad. oh well I guess.

Kandice, actually, the day-old KK's will *stack* better than right-out-of-the-oven ones, come to think of it! Otherwise, they'd be too soft. Such a cool idea..............:D

You know, Kandice, where there are weddings, there are misunderstandings, right? Always happens............ but sorry you have extra bills to pay!:( It sure is ALWAYS something! Try to let it roll off your back, and enjoy the rest of your wedding preps.

You'll meet your Valentinie Challenge.......... I have faith in you! :flow2:

HI JEAN!!!!!!!! :) :) :)

It is so good to see you again. Was wondering if you were still with us, so to speak!!! You are doing great, losing 8 lbs. so far this year. That is great, and now you can proceed from there. As you see from my previous posts, I am 199 now, having lost 35 lbs. Really trying to get started on that next 35 now! Good luck in this coming month. What you're doing is working well!:)

:cheer: for everybody!

wow Bonnie! excellent job! and I have news today too! 175.25 now! 1/4 lb until valentinies goal (and my wedding goal), but I'm going to go ahead and say I made it... (I had my shoes on)

YAY! :cheer: hope everyone else has some good news too! (and that Dena can come back to finish our challenge with us!)

02-10-2005, 03:46 PM
:balloons: for Kandice!!! So proud of you, girl!!! :D

After Monday, can we begin an Easter Challenge (March 27, I believe, is Easter this year)? Is anyone else game? :)

02-10-2005, 04:15 PM
:thanks: Bonnie :D

I thought about the Easter challenge too- if we didn't hear back from Dena- I was going to start it up- the "easter chickies"? got any other suggestions? Easter is 6 weeks away- enough time to lose 5 lbs! :balloons:

I said in another post 165 was the least I can remember weighing since 1994 (my freshmen yr of highschool) 11 years later, only 10 lbs higher- I am very pleased with that! so my birthday goal will be very challenging but I'm up for a challenge still- I like seeing my ticker moved over this much- just a little bit more to go!

everyone else- keep going! can't wait to hear from everyone on Monday to see how we all ended the challenge!

Hi Guys!

Sorry it's been so long since I posted, but my hubby has been on the computer day and night recently. He's taking a series of tests for his job, A+ training in electronics and computers. They told him he could work from home the last few days since he needs total concentration, and I was afraid to touch the computer until he finished these tests. I thought he was done, but he just called and said he's coming home early for more test work. He really is working hard lately between his hours there at his job and here at home.

Kandice, congrats to you for doing so well!!! We're all proud of you!

Bonnie, glad to hear that your trip went well. Welcome, back! We missed you!

It sounds like everyone else is doing great.

I'm still working out. And my knee still bothers me.
Thanks for keeping the thread alive and well.
Dena
