Okay,
I am not sure whether to celebrate or cry right now.
I had the day off yesterday and was going to do Christmas stuff. I watched scrooged in the morning and did my cards while I watched and then showered and had lunch. Anyway after lunch I had planned to do my Christmas shopping. While I was eating though something happened... I could here my door jingling, it was 11:30 am. Anyway, the door opens, and in comes my boyfriend with a letter from his company, 2 months of pay and an employment insurance form... he had been restructured out of the company (only the owner wanted him gone, everyone else loves him and were utterly upset, one other person was also canned). So yeah that was super sad. He helped me do some shopping in the aftm but my heart wasn't in it. He's doing okay, I was the one crying.
Anyway, I get into work this morning and in my e-mail I had a job promotion for a position that will soon pay almost 9K more than I am getting now.
So yeah, do I laugh, celebrate or cry :o .
Kierie: as for WLS, do what you feel is right. I'll support you either way!
Jess: Could you pack everything up, drive it to his mom's and then change the locks? That's always an option.
Belle: Hope everything is going well.
Don't mind if I am extra b%tchy right now... I'll try to be nice... my eating admittedly has gone to heck right now.

sorry to hear about your boyfriend- but "God" or whoever you believe in- really does provide for us and know what we need when we need it. I'm a really firm believer in that.
my example- my fiance was dropped from his insurance (he was temping and had low income insurance- not through his employer) because they found out that I was living with him and it put him over the earning cap. We were going to do a quickie marriage at the JOP (so I could add him to my insurance at work) and the day that we were going to go he called and said he had to work overtime. when he came home he told me he was hired where he had been temping and he was eligible for insurance- that's why he worked overtime- to fill out benefit papers. (I didn't really want to do the JOP thing, but I would have for him, I was and still am looking forward to our big March wedding)
I'm glad that you got your promotion. Things always work out the way they're supposed to!

Kandice: Thanks, it's funny, I interviewed for the position a while ago and thought I hadn't gotten it. But it is true, things do happen for a reason...
Cheers!

ALI: What a bunch of jerks - right before xmas! I think that is horrible... on the other hand CONGRATULATIONS!! I guess the fact is, with 2 months pay and the job market being what it is, he should find work and you guys won't notice a blip. But it might be hard on his ego with your promotion. Poor guy, what a year he has had, losing his mom and now this. He is probably counting his blessings that he has you in his life.
Don't cry. Kandice is right. Everything has it's purpose. (or if you are at all religious, when God closes a door he opens a window). Your new job is your window. And it strenthens that you guys are a team, functioning together.
Don't worry about being negative -you have every right to. Those jerks should be the ones watching Scrooged - it might make thier hearts grow two sizes :)
today is my last day at the office before xmas break - YAY!!

Belle: Have a very Merry Christmas then! It's just the owner of the company... essentially she views the company as her own bank account rather then something that can grow. We talked with the president and the project manager on Saturday and one of his other co-workers and they all knew the writing was on the wall for it (his co-worker, being slightly inibriated <we were at the xmas party> was almost in tears when talking to me about it>. On Monday, the project manager didn't even show up since she was so angry about the lay-offs. I think he will get something soon, but it was a nasty Christmas present... isn't there an unspoken rule about laying off people less than a week from Christmas.
Kierie: Thanks:)
Cheers!

Ali--Yes, as a matter of fact, I do believe there's an unwritten LAW about laying off around Christmas time. That's crap, but like the other ladies said, it's just another opportunity and a chance for your boyfriend to go above and beyond what he's doing right now. And congratulations to you on your promotion!!
Sorry for starting another thread this morning and then just now getting back to post. I had a class for work that I forgot about and had to get to! Then, I tried to delete the thread and I can't figure out how...
Aaron is supposed to be packing his things, but he's unsupervised and an ADD kid, so he probably started packing his stuff then saw that he had a book in a box, sat down to read it, then something in the book reminded him of something he needed to bring in from his car, then his car reminded him that he needs to call someone, etc. It's annoying, but kind of endearing, despite the fact that we're broken up and he's moving out.
Tonight, I have to bowl and it's the Christmas potluck thing. I'm dreading it--it's a women's league and I'm probably one of the youngest women in the league--I don't cook, nor do I want to! Oh well. I'm going to make these salmon/bagel crisp things that someone said are good. I probably won't eat them because I don't like salmon, so that works out pretty well. After that, I need to finish making these little baskets that I'm stamping for a few people here at work. They're much more labor-intensive than I though they'd be, but they're darn cute! :)
And, tomorrow, my sister comes in from Wyoming!! She's only been gone a couple of months, but I've really missed her. I have two weeks vacation starting the first of the year, I'm going to have to plan very carefully so I can go see her a few times next year).
Belle--I'm so glad to hear that you shop like I do!! I always felt a little bit guilty because I've never known anyone else like that! :) When I went this weekend with my friend, she hardly picked up anything for herself. Oh well, I think she knows how I am. ;) I can't help it, it's just my nature. And, that's enough rubbing it in that today is your last day at the office, young lady!!! :D (Just kidding--even though I'm jealous, you could probably use the time off more than I can.) (Oh, that sounded bad--I just meant that you probably have stuff to get ready for Tater (that's what I'm going to call your baby for now) and being pregnant looks freakin' exhausting!!)
Kandice--Hello! (And congrats on your upcoming wedding!)
Kier--Whatever you choose to do, we'll support you. (Sure, I'll just go ahead and speak for everyone). :) I see from your post that WLS is out of the question for now, but you know what you were saying about things happening for a reason??? ;)
OK, ladies, I better get back to work now. I have a ton to do and I'm afraid it's just not going to get done this week. See ya!!
