I thought a shopping poll would be fun. I blame my latest shopping addiction on my co-worker. I love shopping for shoes b/c they last forever!
It's late and I had a great PL workshop tonight, so I thought I would pop in and start a new thread. Did really well on points. Got Subway for dinner and only ate half of it. Did have some munchies at the workshop, but haven't figured those out yet. Anyone have an idea on Artichoke dip??
KO: The top you wore sounds really cute! Good luck on your finals, you will do great!
Kay: My poor MOH and bridesmaids made their dresses. I couldn't find anything remotely near the colors I needed or anywhere close to affordable. They turned out perfect though and I bought an extra pattern b/c I want to make one for me someday.
That's all I can remember from the end of the last post so I will say so long. Here's my picture from Christmas Eve. I'm at about the same weight now (left my WW stuff at work by mistake so can't check for sure). This was the day hubby brought Nestle home for me. He was only 12#. I can't believe he was ever that small *pout pout* I'm growing my bangs out so my hair looks different now.

Brenda! Cute photo! And Nestle looks ADORABLE!!! I can't wait till I can have a cute furry little bundle of love all of my own. I'm so jealous of you! Blokey and I spent the whole weekend (catsitting!) thinking of names for the 2 cats we are determined to get just as soon as we are settled (how many years will that be?!).
Morning all ... yup, it's early and I am about to get off to the library and then ... WI!!! ... really don't want to go after the weekend digestive-biscuits-cheddar-cheese-and-peanut-butter debacle. 2 weeks' worth of gains would be soooooooooooooooo bad. But I've got to face up to it. Deep breath. Do you think my subconscious is doing this on purpose because it's scared of getting down below 200? OR is that a pathetic cop-out excuse?
Answered 'groceries' on the poll because that is the only kind of shopping blokey and I love equally, and it's just so much more fun going together. We like experimenting and we're trying soooooooooo hard to experiment with good stuff rather than working our way through every tortilla chip on the market ...
Back later!

Mornin
I answered household items. I love shopping for things for my house. My favorite is bathroom accesories....call me weird. I figure as soon as I have lost more weight I will want to shop for clothes. For now though home decor all the way.
I ate only 16 points yesterday (which is a bad thing) but I just wasn't hungry. I ate supper later in the day then normal, so I am sure that is the reason.
Brenda You are so pretty! And that dog is cute! We had Subway for supper last night too. So filling, and so low in points.
Lolly Good luck at weigh in today!

Morning girls,
Oooh - cute doggie piccie! And cute Brenda too! I want a kitten. Unfortunately until they can genetically modify them so they are always kittens I'll have to go without... Just kidding. Need to find a house before I can fill it with animals. Renting sucks. But London house prices are even worse.
I can't believe the weekend is over already! I had a fantastic time in Paris with BF. Travelled first class on the Eurostar, stayed in Montmartre, drank a lot and ate a lot (I'm not going to think about points). We did so much walking around and climbed up all the famous buildings - Sacre Couer, Arc de Triomphe, Tour d'Eiffel and so on! Visited the Louvre and the Musee d'Orsay and many, many wine bars and top restaurants. Paris is such a fantastic city. It's so clean compared to London and the people seem much less stressed out and friendly. But weekends are all too short and I'm back to work. Booh! Next city break is probably going to be Florence, Italy. I can't wait.
Belle - good on you doing the running! Stick to the program, I'm on Week 7 and can do 25 min runs now. Next week is 28 min runs and then 30 mins after that. Wow. Then I'm going to try and build my speed up a bit!! That's the killer!
Hooray on all those good losses. And booh on any gains, but don't fear, it'll be losses all round soon. Especially now summer is on the way and it's time to bare more flesh - eek!
Lots of work to do today, so a big HELLO to you all and I'll hopefully be back later,
Kirsty

Kirsty Welcome back! Glad you had a good time. Sounds like it was a lot of fun. I would SO love to go to Paris one day,....but I don't see it happening. We don't have the $ and my dh isn't into traveling at all. :( But hey, maybe one day I will be able to convince him.
I won't be around this morning, going to meet some friends.....there is ALWAYS junk food galore. Last week there were cinnimon rolls dripping with icing, and some banana cake, and cookies....I triamphed last week and didn't have a thing....hope I can do it again.
Those times where we are faced with food like that....does anyone else find it kinda scary? I do. Anyway, gotta run and get my oldest ready for school and get her lunch packed. She keeps eating my ff yogurt! grrrr :) Oh well, at least it is healthy.
Check back later

Good morning.
Brenda - I'll be praying to. So tomorrow night's the night. I was mad because my roommate had schedualed a study group at our place... and they run pretty late - so I'm going with a few friends to watch it at a bar.
Kirsty - I am so jealous you can just go to Paris for the weekend. Must be nice. I'm glad you had a good time.
Angie - Good lucking meeting with your friends. Being around all those foods can definately make people feel anxious. I'm sure you'll do fine.
Kay - It's so funny you posted that dress, the pink one. My roommate and I were looking through the Chadwick's catalog and saw that one. We both said we'd love that for our bridesmaids dresses (neither of us are even dating - but we just like to pretend :). I really liked that one.
Hi KO, Lolly, and Shaylene. Hope your days are going well.
I am a major shop-o-holic. I seriously own like EVERYTHING at Lane Bryant. But I'm trying to cut back. Especially because I'm slowing shrinking out of their clothes! :) But I love that place. I know the sales ladies will miss me when I'm gone.
ALright - I should get to work. Have great days ladies!

doubt i can be of help there. could you talk about freedom of speech and the media's right to report the truth and how they cannot do so in many countries, but that you can in the US. and then maybe how media can sometimes shape events these days, it no longer simply reports them. i dunno if that is any help - might trigger off something i guess!
time for me to grab some lunch. i brought some red wine back from paris for my friends. it cost 60p a bottle - that's under a dollar. hee hee! god bless the french!

i work for a science magazine, so i guess i'm lucky in that we do try to stick to the truth cos it's v obvious when we don't!
but so many tabloids and magazines are full of nasty rumours about celebs started by someone who vaguely knew them years ago. it's quite depressing sometimes, but i guess most folk know the story is twisted and quite possibly completely made up by someone who wants money.
i was reading about the large gap in IQ test scores between blacks and whites and how many people refuse to go near this issue because no one wants to say it is genetic or environmental for fear of being called a racist. apparently the new york times and the washington post set the tone for mainstream media and the NYT does not accept that ethnic cognitive differences are real, and WP only occasionally approaches the issue with a very long spoon. so i guess that shows them hiding from the truth.
i'll be hitting the wine in 4 hours time...

Down 2.5!!! THat's the 1lb gain from last week plus 1.5 more!!! I asked my leader if this meant I could trough half a jar of peanut butter every weekend and she said no. BOO. BTW BRenda, PB & honey is one of my faves. Also with jam (jelly) - when my friend's Mom came to visit from the US she brought me a giant jar of Goober jelly! That was SO cool. What an introduction to american food! Have you ever had PB in celery sticks? It's yummy, but better still - I reckon celery is negative calories so really it makes the PB healthy. What does everyone else think?
Hello again everyone. Kirsty! Welcome back! Might be in London next Tuesday and looking for entertainment between 5 and 6.30, if you're about - I should know by the end of the week.
Kierie - good luck on the finals. When do you finish? And when do you leave for IReland? I bet you're counting the days ... oh, and a funsized twix is ... not in my WW book. Sorry. Maybe that means it's point free???!

So I picked other. I realize that makes me very strange for a girl, but I've always hated shopping, even when I was thin. It bores me, and I hate malls with a passion. I consider it a great accomplishment when I can get through a Christmas season without buying anything at the mall. I do, however, like going into novelty stores and looking around for funky things. Oh, and I guess I like book stores and card stores. I like shopping for books ... I could spend all day in a book store browsing.
I love being able to buy stuff on the Internet, though! Yesterday I bought $90 worth of flowers for my mom, grandma and b/f's mom from 1800flowers.com for Mother's Day. I decided to splurge a little.
Kierie: You're probably through with your exam by now ... I hope you did OK! As a member of the media (I write for a newspaper), I agree that it can shape public perception, but I find that comes much more from TV media, and not as much as print. There's an intense rivalry between TV and print media ... I think print does much more of just presenting the facts and getting out of the way instead of pushing an idea in your face like TV does. Of course, when it comes down to it, any media outlet still shows what they find most important by what they chose to put on the front page or lead the 6 p.m. news with. Kirsty: Did you read the series The New York Times did on race relations last year? It was pretty interesting.
OK, off my soapbox now ...
Brenda: Cool pic! Nestle is adorable! I'll have to post a pic of my puppies.
Lolly: Yay on the loss! I'm hoping for one tomorrow!
Last night, the Pilates class I took was awesome! Very relaxing and all the tension was gone from my neck and shoulders. Some of it's back now, but I'm going to start going to that class every week!
OK, back to work. But here's a pic of my dogs! Stella is the red one, Toby is the husky mix.

05-08-2001, 11:47 AM
hey kim,
don't read the new york times i'm afraid, but i bet it was interesting. race relations is a bit of a hot topic in the uk at the moment, esp with an election next month. each party is trying to say the other guys are racist. quite amusing to watch them as they spin doctor stories...
why don't women rule the world? i'm sure we'd be better at it.
kimobi
05-08-2001, 11:58 AM
I agree, Kirsty, it would be better if women ruled the world. Chocolate would be free! :D I wish a woman would actually run for president over here instead of just talking about it. I'm tired of these middle-aged white men who don't have a clue. Bush is going to run this country into the ground so be glad you're in the UK!

Brenda ~ Fabulous pic!!! Your pup is so sweet :). My best friend had one that looks the same. Hers is HUGE now and named Bailey.
Stacey ~ I didn't wear the gloves for the wedding. I can't handle anything on my hands for very long. I had a shawl to wear in church and my veil was over my sholders. I thought the gloves would have been too much for the simplicity of the dress. My dress and the BM dresses were so comfy. I wish I could wear it again but 1. people would think I'm a freak and 2. It is too big for me now.
Kirsty ~ Great Photo even if it is 5 years old!
As far as the press goes, I used to believe everything I saw, but now I don't. I don't know if any of ya'll heard about it but a couple of years ago there was a tragic bonfire collapse at my university and 12 people died. Well my DH was still in school at the time and a friend of his was one of the ones killed. I was in Houston working and was watching cnn online all day long trying to get info. Once the phone lines were clearer I was able to compare stories with DH (then fiance). It was so weird how far the truth was from what the media was telling the public. I assume there is a reason things are mutated on TV, but it made the situation much more difficult for those of us with friends on site. I agree with Kim in that the print media (non tabloid) tends to be much more accurate.
Well, I gotta run now! Hi to everyone!

I go to a new category soon and I don't want to get used to eating too many points....how many boosters are we allowed per day again? I think its only 2 anyway....?
I too love peanut butter - I eat it on apples. Its high count but worth it AND it IS nutritious, so I justify it there....

Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh i want to post a piccie too! Great photos everyone ... does anyone know how to make a 'sticky' like they have on the WW General thread? That way we could keep the photos at the top and they wouldn't get lost ...
Just had formal dinner in college (ie you have to wear an academic gown and get served at the table). I am supposed to go to these far more often than I do - but these are NOT OP dinners! Fortunately no wine today, and fruit salad for dessert, so that helped. Starter was asparagus soup (YUM!), then steak, green beans and croquet potatoes (so classy, I know ... I guess they weren't making too much of an effort tonight). Tomorrow is steamed fish so I might go along again. I can't wait to have my own apartment and cook for myself! (August ...)
Ooh, Belle, peanut butter and apple, that sounds yummy. And Trish, I know PB is so nutritious - all that protein - but I am physically incapable of not spooning it. Really! I think I need a chip in my brain or something ... Why do you think PB is so addictive?
Kim - your doggies are gorgeous! I will have to do a picture of my Jennyanydots when I finally get to a scanner.
Suzanne - YIPPEE! Only 3 more days to go! I forget, do you have something else lined up, or were you thinking about taking some time out?
Trish - eek! Internet police! Post when you can, won't you? We miss you!
hugs everyone,

I love all the pics! Kirsty, you're gorgeous! We really are a good looking bunch! :) Doesn't hurt to gloat a little, does it?
Kay: I know what you mean about things getting distorted in the media. Oftentimes, I think it comes from the fact that the authorities are so closed-mouthed about things and don't tell everything ... speculation arises as a result. I have a heck of a time with the police departments I deal with sometimes. It gets very frustrating. If they'd just be open about stuff, it would help everyone. And the public doesn't always realize that the media is acting on their behalf ... it's not that we're trying to be pains, we're just trying to tell the truth about what happened. At least, that's my philsophy!
Ah! My computer won't let me read the other posts, so now I forget what everyone said! Sorry! I gotta run anyway. I'm going on a ridealong with a cop friend of mine tonight and have some work to get done first!

Kay: I feel the same way about gloves or arm thingys
I also know where you are coming from on the press stuff. Yes, I do remember the bonfire collapse. Us Big 12's have got to stick together. It's too bad our fans don't do something even remotely close to yell practice.
Oh well, I digress. I for one am tired of all the publicity that goes to Timothy McVeigh and the entire bombing. Several people who were survivors but lost family members still get contacted by the big news magazines. It's like a wound that will never heal.
Hmmm, sorry to get down.
I'm ready to go home!! I don't have a clue as to how to post pictures! I did our engagement pic, but don't know if it will work now. I guess I'll just have to have wedding pics put on a disk or cd and then download them. It might be kind of fun to have one of those "free" webpages, you know?
Hey, where's Tonya? We found Trish...or at least she is running from the internet police. :)
Come say hi Tonya!
My boss just came back, so I'll see you around!

Please don't hate me for posting one more picture. This is a picture of my mom. It was taken on her wedding day, just 2 weeks before she died. Look how happy she was.

Stacy... Tonya is out of town, for I think most of the week.
I love pics!!! I just got some more back of my Emma, so I will work on scanning those for everyone to see!

OK, I'll jump on the bandwagon and share another pic. This is me and my sister, Meredith, on New Year's Eve.
