GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!
Another week is upon us-the time just seems to be flying by lately.
I hope everyone had a great weekend, mine was quiet and uneventful-not such a bad thing:)
It was interesting to see last weeks poll. Chocolate and Ice Cream were tied for top place. One of you wonderful woman wanted FRUIT that wasn't on program, and two put OTHER - if you don't mind revealing yourselves, I'd love to know just what OTHER is:) Potatoes did quite well on the poll-those carbs really seem to hold a dear place in our hearts:love:
I started our newest board MY FAVORITE SB LEGAL FOODS MY FAVORITE SB LEGAL FOODS LINK (http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=5005). Just click on the this link and it will take you straight to this board. Hope this link will be helpful to everyone.:)
It's Monday, which means it's MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY and this is my contribution, I thought it was really good and definitely worth sharing:
ALL THE WAY
Success requires that you go the distance. Results depend not only on what you start to do, but on what you complete. Accomplishment depends not on what you intend to do, but on what you actually get done.
Wishing, hoping, planning, and trying will not by themselves get you there. Your persistence, your commitment, your actions are what will bring the success you seek.
The world is full of those with great ideas and big plans. Unfortunately, too many of those ideas are never fully explored. Too many of those plans are never completely implemented.
Dream big dreams. Make big plans. And then take the actions which will make those dreams a reality. Give real time and effort to your best intentions and you'll transform them into accomplishment.
-- Ralph Marston

Eli is off today, well, he has to go in to another store for about a half hour and I'll read a book while he's there, maybe get some Wild Orange Tea;) while I wait. Then probably off to Broward for lunch and some Carbolite.
I'll check in with you all later. I have a meeting at the school tonight, so if not before, definintely after EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND!
I hope everyone has a wonderful week!:)

Happy Monday Everyone :D
Here is my motivational saying for the week.
Envision your life as a grain of sand on the beach. A grain of sand can move unnoticed to the eye. Use this concept when you want to do something but you are afraid. Your action can go unnoticed to anyone else but you. If you never act in life you will always settle to react. Learn to take control of your life or life will take control over you
Today is my hubby's b'day. We're having grilled steaks, fresh asparagus, twice baked potatos (his favorite so I will abstain), cake and ice cream (once again his favorite but I won't risk the sugar). I took today off to be with him while the kids are at school. We hope to have a nice quiet day and eat lunch out somewhere nice.
The weather here has been pretty but we are due for a storm late tonight.
I'm doing fine on SB. Went walking yesterday even though I wasn't in the mood. Told myself I would walk 1 mile and ended up running/walking 3 miles.
Debbie: Thanks for all you do. This board is a great tool that really keeps us going. I know it helps you but you need to understand that it is the difference between success and failure for a lot of other people. Thanks.
Gotta run.

Good Monday morning everyone :)
Hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was good even though I had to work. Had a little free time to read some posts. My weight has stayed down so far this week, hovering between 200/201 lbs. I am willing it to get below that 200 mark.
Debbie - Sorry to hear your plans for visiting Canada are on hold. Whenever you do get up here I hope I can meet you. I was one of the "Others" on the poll. My favorite non SB food is french fries. O.K. I know these are made from potatoes but I don't crave baked potatoes, boiled potatoes or any other spud only french fries. I want to echo what Beachfan says about the work you do for this board and thank you for all the effort you put into it.
Nancemeister - I liked the idea of the chart you made. Sounds a bit like the height chart I used to use for the kids, except this one is moving down not up!
Melf - I hope you enjoyed your days off. Glad to hear you are down 3 lbs. It was good to hear that you took your Mom on an outing from the Nursing Home and she had a good time.
Lisa - Hope you had a good time at the "Mom and Me" campout.
Fillise - It sounds like your Derby party was fun.
BOB - Congrats on being 1 month no smoking. Way to go Girl!
Chris - Those muffins sound delicious. The reason I very rarely bake anymore is because I would probably end up eating most of them if there was no one else around to eat them. I always hated to waste anything that I had spent time baking. That was a bit of luck finding the bird cage so quickly. I had a similar experience when I needed a fish tank. I very rarely went to garage sales - my dh always said we had enough of our own junk without buying somebody elses. Anyway the first place I went to that morning had exactly what I was looking for, and cheap too.
Kim - Glad you were successful in finding a dress for the wedding. It can be frustrating sometimes trying to find something suitable. I hope you have a good time at the wedding.
Beachfan - It was interesting to read your story and how things have changed for you since starting this woe. Thanks for sharing. I hope you have a good day celebrating your hubby's birthday.
Aces - Welcome to the board. Sorry to hear about the problem you are having with your foot. I've had heel spurs and know how painful they can be. Have you thought of swimming for exercise? This would be easier on your foot than any weight-bearing exercise.
Well have to go. Have some chores to finish before heading out to the shops and then on to badminton this afternoon.
Have a good SB day everyone
Bye
Marie.

GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYBUDDY
Nancy....please don't feel that way...you'll learn in time I don't always answer, that's not a personal thing...I have every intention of doing so and then when I get to clicking those fingers, well....sometimes I just forget...I think I'm wonder woman when it comes to remembering everything that everyone posts! I will start writing down
as I go and try my best not to miss anyone again...
As for my beginning weight...I don't post it because I'm just not comfortable in doing so. I never have and maybe one day I will...as I told Barb...this will be the first place I go public with it....
ATTENTION ALL YOU REAL NEW AND RECENTLY NEWBIES
You will find from time to time that I am a very verbal woman. Please don't take anything personal..I tend to speak my mind and if I step on toes in the process, I'll humbly bow in advance
I picked up a book this weekend written by Dorothy Gault-McNemee, MD called GOD'S DIET....basically, she
advocates "if GOD didn't make it....DON'T EAT IT"
Very interesting read so far and some good recipes that I will pass along.
I like her thinking...the very first paragraph reads "Now, if you want to spend good money for this book, go ahead. BUT if you understand the chapter title, spend your money for something else."
"I've made this book short for two reasons: because the concept is so easy it doesn't need a long book, and because I want you to read the book and change your like."
In the past, she was a believer in PHEN-PHEN and gave it to her patients who asked. SHe herself was heavy and had been on every fad diet since she was thirteen.
She was just tired of the rollercoaster that most of us have ridden all of our lives.
Her food plan advocates only what she calls "real food"
and no processed food at all....AND BREAD???? here's what she says: "When you start getting into bread, tortillas, and pasta you probably think you are okay. I
contend that for us chubs, those things are NOT OKAY. I believe that sugar and flour are our enemies. I also think the are addictive.
SMART WOMAN....
BACK TO WORK....I'll catch all of you on the flip side

I am slowly recovering and de-toxing from Saturday. Big orange--you are right about all the sugar in all the drinks we consumed--like I said the WORST possible drinks for Sugar busters! But interestingly, I found myself anxiously anticipating my sugar-free foods.
This year my hat wasn't really a hat. I've really taken the philosophy of the Sweet Potato Queens to heart. So this year I wore a tiarra to which I had wired roses and ivy--and proclaimed myself the Queen of the Derby! It was quite stunning, if I do say so myself. But, alas, there are no pictures and I do not allow cameras at Derby Day--far too dangerous! My guests do compete to see who can make the most outrageous hat and over the years we have had some doozys!
But today is Monday and I am relieved to be getting the sugar hit out of my system. I'm going to have to think about a tip for today--will get back to you on that. I hope everyone has a good week--ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!

Happy Monday! Is there such a thing? One of these days I hope I can be an at home Mom and not have to get up and go to work on Mondays!

Sounds like you are going to have a wonderful day. Your dinner sounds yummy! I am also planning to tak my Hubby's B-day off in June. It should be illegal to have to work on your birthday! Have a great time!

I was laughing at the "growth" chart. We used to have a wall in my Mom's kitchen where everyone got to mark their heigth. I was really disappointed when we moved out of the house, she painted over it...It was part of our living family history! I bought some new jazzy stickers for my weight chart, with positive sayings. I figure each time I loose I get to slap a sticker on it!
BOB
I was just giving you a hard time. One thing you can't "hear" over the computer is my sarcasim. I like giving people a hard time, and you seem to have a great sense of humor! What do you do in medical?
Don't worry about posting your weight. To each his own. I was just curious. The whole world (my family)
knows how much I weigh now since I put my poster up in my bathroom. Oh well, I know they can tell by looking at me that I'm no Heather Locklear, but I needed to have something to chart my progress!
Quilter
Made your "Beef Stroganoff"last night. Everyone loved it! We all decided we like ww pasta alot better than
the white startchy stuff which is a relief when it comes to pleasing the kids! I am going to take your tip and try cooking the meat in the crockpot ahead of time, and see how it turns out! Delicious!
ldblond
Are you back in the Coachella Valley yet or what? GIve me a call at work, or I'll bug you. How about lunch sometime this week? Hope your seminar didn't put you to sleep!
Well....I haven't found anything "motivational" to post as of yet. You are all my motivation right now! I need to plan a day ahead of time, instead of trying to scramble before heading off to work. Hope you all have a great day, and I'll be checking in later!

I so miss my Derby parties..As you can tell, down here not too many people follow the horses....I have managed to promote the "DERBY POT" every year since I've been here....almost fourteen years and I still haven't won the pot yet!!!! But I keep on collecting....
Nancy: we are too much alike.....that can be scarey!
I'm the queen of sarcasim....just ask DEB....
I do auth/certs verification of benefits.....in other words

Good morning!
Well, the "Mom & Me" campout was a big success. We packed so much into 24 hrs.....I was totally exhausted when we got home! Went straight to bed and took a 3 hr. nap. It was certainly not a SB weekend; however, I did get in more exercise than usual w/all the hiking, canoeing, etc.....
I weighed this morning and was down about a pound from last week, so hopefully I can still have some good results by Wednesday. I've been reading everyone's posts this morning and really enjoying them. It's so great to get to know all of you terrific people and share what's going on w/our lives. It makes this new WOE a lot easier!
Someone mentioned not having migraines anymore since becoming sugar free.....I agree! I used to have terrible headaches and have not had one since cutting out the sugar.
I'm going to the beach on Thursday night after Ross's game w/my sisters. WOOHOO!!! We are so lucky to live in the same town and have the relationship we do. They are truly my best friends. We've all agreed to bring healthy foods to eat, so hopefully I can stay OP while down there.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Well Monday is here, start of a brand new week. Hope everyone had a good week end. I was suppose to get a wisdom tooth pulled early this am, but drove an hour to get to my dentist only to be told that he had a family emergency & had to cancel my appt. I think I'll just wait till after vacation to reschedule it. I had myself prepared, but now I will have to keep dreading the aweful deed.
Debbie, Great motivational thought about success. I notice you quote from Ralph Marston alot. He has good words to say. :D I was in Lafayette this am & thought of you. Wanted to pass at Barnes & Noble where they have a StarBucks. Wanted to get some of the Orange Tea, but didn't get a chance to go there. Maybe next time.
BEACHFAN, Hope you & your DH have a wonderful day together. Loved your motivational thought also. I also agree that Debbie is the best! She is always so helpful & supportive, but then again, so are you & sooooo many other ladies on this board. It's great to have this board to come to for help, answers, support, & just plain fellowship with others that we have so much in common with.
ROSALIE, You are SOOOOOO close to a milestone! Sure hope you can get down to a new set of numbers before your trip. Yes, I did have a good week end off. Stayed pretty busy. DH & I cut grass here Sat., then yesterday we went to cut an acre of grass for my daughter who has no means of getting her yard cut right now. With those 3 boys of hers, that grass sure needs to be kept under control. We normally don't do that kind of work on Sunday, but it was for a good cause. Yes, Mom sure did enjoy the outing. We hope to do things like that with her as often as possible.
BOB, Interesting Book/Diet you mentioned there. I would tend to agree that processed foods are probably not the best for us, but all too often, that is what we buy & eat the most of.
FILLISE, Your tiarra sounds beautiful! Queen of the Derby eh? :D Good luck with the detoxing.
Nancemeister, Yea, you sound like you have a sense of humor, just by reading your posts. Cute idea about the chart for your weight loss. You mentioned the height chart in your mom's kitchen. It reminded me of the groth chart I started for my oldest GS when he was 2. He's now 13 & everytime he comes to visit, that's the first thing he wants me to do is mark his height on the bedroom door frame in the hallway. It's HIS door frame :lol And he's real quick to also point out that he's now taller than I am.
Lisa_A_A, Sounds like you had a jam-packed FUN week-end.
QUILTER/Kim, How's the walking going? I'm afraid I'm not getting in near as much walking as I would like, but I am staying busy with other things, so at least I'm active. Hope you have a great week.
See ya!

BEACH - WOW! You’ve overcome a lot more than a weight problem!! Thank you for sharing so much with us! What an inspiration!! I like that your doctor prescribed diet and exercise for the emotional side of things as well – so quickly Dr.s become legalized drug dealers, I think. The pills don’t cure the problem and so often people hide behind the drugs rather than tackling the issues these days – glad to see you’re on the true health track.
LAURIE – Way Cool! Weighing in public?!? You’ve got a lot more nerve than I do – funny you should mention that - - - I looked at the scale in the grocery this week-end and decided I was too chicken to climb up there. Looking forward to joining you among the ranks of the strong!
NANCEMEISTER – Those “mixed breeds” are the best dogs to have! My favorite has been a chow/golden retriever mix. Smart, Sharp, Funny and TOUGH! I’m a Miss. State Bulldawg, but sadly don’t have a real live dog of my own (not for trying!) Hubby and I love dogs, but convincing him that we won’t have to put up with too much shedding or compromise to our schedule has not been easy. They were looking at adding a canine patrol to the police department and I’ve been trying to get him to tell the Captain that we would gladly do it, but I’m not trained so the WE would really be VINCE when they get called out at 3am and he’s not ready to volunteer for that either. :D It sounds like you did okay at your outings – I am thankful to have understanding friends and co-workers – half my office is on a diet (and they’re all different) so we don’t force anything on anyone. My friends are very understanding, so there’s no pressure there. Maybe just telling them how very important it is to you and that it hurts your feelings like they don’t really care when they try to make you feel guilty for not sticking to your plan? Put the onus back on them. My husband runs and works out religiously – he eats healthy and is in excellent shape. He is 8 years older than I am and people don’t believe it because he looks so good. (Not bragging, I really am trying to make a point). When we go places and people comment on his turning down a sweet or drink or something – they say, “You don’t have to do that because you’re in such good shape.” They don’t realize he’s in such good shape because he DOES do that! That never happens to me  but it will one day!! To you too!!
KIM – I’m glad you found a dress – I do think you’re exaggerating on the 20,000 pounds of pressure, though. I hate shopping when I’m in one of those moods – contrags on sticking it out and finding something - I’m sure it’ll look nicer when you’re in a better mood.
ICESKATE – Good to hear from you! Post when you can – we’re still thinking aboutcha even when you aren’t here. I was reminded of a quote I saw on a bathroom wall one time – “If we all hung our problems on the line you’d take yours and I’d take mine.” I truly believe that God is our sufficiency and does not allow us to be tempted above what we are able to handle. I know we feel like we can’t handle it sometimes, but we invariably can find the strength we need – including from our friends and/or ‘web buddies!! I’m sorry to hear that you got snookered into going back to 4th graders. Hopefully you can use that as a bargaining chip to get back to the 3rd graders next year – AND A RAISE!
FILLISE – MMMmmmmmm Mint Juleps! Gotta love ‘em! Glad you had a guilt-free blast at your party! I’m NOT glad that you’ve had to suffer the effects so bad, but when that happens to me I take SMALL consolation in the fact that I must be doing pretty darn good on plan for sliding off to have such dire consequences on my body. Right? I mean, it wouldn’t be so bad if I wasn’t being so good, right?
BOB – Way to go!!! What nerve you have – taking those patches back!! I’m not surprised Debbie doesn’t know about Derby parties – Florida is not in anyway associated with the TRUE South - too many darn New Yorkers, Ohioans, Michiganers down here – they have killed all the southern hospitality and traditions down here. After our trip to SC I realized why I was such an oddball when I moved down here – I always look people in the eye and say, “Hi” or nod or smile at them when I pass them on the road or in the hallway. I talk to people in the elevator or where-ever - - NOT something people do down here. They wear sleeve-less dresses and white all year long – dressing up means the men wear a shirt with a collar. I better stop here, you DON’ T want to get me started. :)
DEBBIE – Go to the library and get a book called “Desparation Dinners” – they are fool-proof, healthy, 20 minute meals. They are awesome!! We have quite a few “regulars” on our weekly menues each week. Having dinner ready will give you more quality time with Eli. :D
MARIE – You’ll break that 00 mark! As diligent as you are that scale is going to HAVE to budge! I’m getting a list from my parents on must see’s and “can avoids” from their trip to England. They’ll be back next week, but in keeping with my truly Southern Momma – she has set up an e-mail address and they are now well known regulars at the cyber café across the street from their hotel and they are keeping us posted every day. Apparently the “Jack the Ripper” 2 hour walking tour is a MUST – she did say it ended up being a 3 hour walking tour, but that it was absolutely fabulous. (They also met 3 people from Memphis and ended up having dinner with them – just like my Mom!)
Our building at work developed a sink hole last week and they had seismologists all over the place last week. Well, today when we showed up for work they weren’t letting people in the building – the building was bowed a little bit more on the side where the sink hole is supposed to be and the sidewalk is pretty caved in out front. We convinced them to let us in to at least get our computers – and now they’ve given us until 4pm to get whatever we can out of the building while they wait for the reports on the building and do whatever they can to make the building inhabitable again. We’ve moved to one of our other locations and sent everyone home who has Road Runner or DSL connections to work from home on our programming team. The rest of us are all piled on top of each other. :D After moving about 100 computers this morning none of us are smelling too nice. Looks like we’ll be doing this for at least a week. As you can imagine the owner of the company is none too happy about that – I don’t think there is room for everyone over in this other office so I don’t know what they are doing with everyone else. As a result I had to buy my lunch today and I got a veggie pita (I sooooo missed those from over here in the alternate location) It’s 1 slice of pita bread spread with cream cheese, that frozen mixture of veggies (broccoli, carrots and red peppers), Italian dressing and Muenster cheese – Is that really bad? Guess we’ll see when I get the droopy eyes, huh?
We had friends over for dinner last night – totally SB friendly menu and they didn’t even know it! For dessert we had SB Strawberry Ice Cream topped with fresh strawberry slices. They were thrilled to learn about it. We may have another convert to the SB way.
I go to the Endocrinologist on Wed. for my monthly update meeting. We’ll see how much weight I’ve lost total according to her scales and what she says – hopefully we can do something a bit more somehow to get this weight to come off a little quicker/easier/something…..
Nothing motivational to share, but thanks to all who have!

Sorry I haven't responded more to your posts. I'm doing my best to read them all.
Thanks, Beach, for telling us newer members about your history. You are one of my heroes on this board! Hopefully there will be more of us joining the ranks of maintenance with you.
I've found this info re: green tea that I thought might be of interest. Please note the caution to people who have thyroid problems. This article came from http://thyroid.about.com/health/thyroid/library/weekly/aa030701a.htm. There are many articles here about weight problems faced by people with thyroid problems. Even if you don't have a thyroid problem, there's a lot of info here for all of us.
Green Tea Extract Increases Metabolism, May Aid in Weight Loss
Green Tea May Safely Increase Daytime Metabolism as much as 30-40%
by Mary J. Shomon
There are two ways to lose weight -- either reduce energy intake, or increase energy expenditure. Because hypothyroidism -- even after treatment -- may reduce energy expenditure in some people, patients naturally are looking for options that can help safely help raise the metabolism.
In a study reported on in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, it was found that green tea extract resulted in a significant increase in energy expenditure (a measure of metabolism), plus also had a significant effect on fat oxidation.
While some of the effects were originally theorized to be due to the caffeine content of green tea, the researchers discovered that the tea actually has properties that go beyond those that would be explained by the caffeine. The same amount of caffeine as was in the green tea, administered alone, failed to change energy expenditure in other studies. This led reseachers to believe that there is some interaction going on with the active ingredients of green tea that promotes increased metabolism and fat oxidation.
The researchers indicated that their findings have substantial implications for weight control. A 4% overall increase in 24-hour energy expenditure was attributed to the green tea extract, however, the research found that the extra expenditure took place during the daytime. This led them to conclude that, since thermogenesis (the body's own rate of burning calories) contributes 8-10% of daily energy expenditure in a typical cubject, that this 4% overall increase in energy expenditure due to the green tea actually translated to a 35-43% increase in daytime thermogenesis.
Of critical importance to thyroid patients is the fact that none of the research subjects reported any side effects, and no significant differences in heart rates were noticed. In this respect, green tea extract is different from some of the prescription drugs for obesity, and herbal products like ephedra, which can raise heart rates and blood pressure, and are not recommended for many individuals, in particular, those with thyroid disease who may be particularly sensitive to stimulants.
Implications for You?
If you were to incorporate green tea into your weight loss efforts, how is the best way to go about it?
One way would be to choose a reputable brand of organic green tea at a health food store or natural grocery, and start by taking a cup of tea every day. You can also take a green tea extract, in the form of a supplement.
Either way, says dietitian Lynn Moss, M.S., R.D., a continuing education specialist for Pharmavite, makers of Nature Made and Nature's Resource supplements and herbs, you should definitely take the green tea with meals, to reproduce the study's conditions as much as possible.
Moss also feels that green tea may be a good choice for thyroid patients because, unlike caffeine, " green tea has the potential to accelerate metabolism -- which can help weight loss slightly -- without overstimulating your adrenal glands."
And even a small effect can go a long way, when you are dealing with a metabolism that may not rebound entirely, despite hypothyroidism treatment.
SPECIAL NOTE: Is Green Tea Dangerous to the Thyroid?
In response to my article, some readers expressed concerns regarding the high fluoride content in tea, and the negative relationship between ingestion of too much fluoride and thyroid problems, as well as other health concerns.
This is definitely something to be considered before deciding to take green tea.
While green tea has some definite benefits in the cancer-prevention and metabolism-boosting arena, the fluoride content may, according to some practitioners, be a concern for the public in general, but specifically for thyroid patients.
For more information on the green tea/thyroid/fluoride connection, please see Is Green Tea Dangerous to the Thyroid?.
I strongly recommend that if anyone wants to pursue this as a "weight loss enhancement" that they check out the other links at this site.
Have a great week! I'll have some more stuff to post this week. Please forgive me if it doesn't get posted on the appropriate day. I gotta post when I think of it!

Wow! I love my new computer. It is realy fast, with a 500 mghz processor. And I’m not even on the DSL yet. That comes tomorrow, and then I’ll have lightening at my fingertips. I was even able to get on this board without being able to read a chapter in a book while I was waiting. Wow again! I love it!
Big Orange, That book sounds interesting. As you explain it, the author would advocate wheat berries, but not bread. Tabouli, but not spaghetti. Hmm, interesting. Anything else that stood out in that book. Sounds pretty simple.
Lisa A A. I closed my eyes when I scrolled past the tiger image. LOL
SolShine--I heard about the sink hole from my friend who did all the junky install stuff on my new computer. We don’t get the local Mullet Wrapper AKA the Orlando Slantenel, so did not read about it either. That really is something. Now I know where it is. We were thinking it was between my house and the Sharaton hotel. Where is the other building where you will be working temporarily. All the sink holes show up when we have a drought. BTW, the reason people wear white year round down here is because it seems like it is always summer or spring. Not much cold weather. So all the “northern stuff” goes out the window. A few years ago Florida selected the motto “the rules are different here”. They got a lot of flak over it and that motto was jettisoned after 3 years. Also, things are getting so casual, that people are not even rummaging in the back of their closets to find their black shoes.
I have been tremendously busy. This weekend I led an all day meeting for 33 women in a town about 40 minutes from here. Then I got home about 6, and we had friends over for dinner. It was fun, but I was tired. Then I taught my class Sunday morning, and then had two meetings back to back that I went to with my husband. We co-lead a group almost every Sunday at 5 pm. but this Sunday he had another function that we attended at 7:30. Both involved food. We also were invited to someones home for lunch, and it was not at all SB legal. The only thing legal was the meat. I was not legal. In fact, I’ve been straying somewhat. Eating has been on the run a lot and catch as catch can. The big function that I am leading will be over 2 weeks from now, and I hope to catch my breath then. I’m tring to stay on plan meanwhile. What a weak fleshed human I am. when I got home Sunday night I was so tired that I hit the hay at 9 pm. And I am usually a night owl.
Again, it’s great to be able to get on this board and enjoy using it. I hope never to see half blank pages and slow loading anymore.
Thanks again Debelli, for all you do.
Love to all, and God bless.

SOL: I agree about the state of FLA...It truley is NOT a southern state!! I'm always fussing at someone at work for wearing white! Of course, they are quick to tell me that this is FLA!!! I GIVE UP I could get up on the same soapbox and we could preach together!!
I saw the people leaving your building on the news tonight.
MARIE: You're getting pretty close to your trip aren't you? I sure do envy you ...I WANT TO GO
KAREN: Thanks for the info...I like to keep up to date!
GATOR: What kind of computer did you get? Are you keeping your old one? or donating it? Can't wait to hear your opinion when you're hooked up.

Big Orange, I got an iMac. 500 mhz processor (fast!), 20 gig HD, 192MB RAM, with a CD drive that both reads and writes (burns CDs). I got a new printer also. I got the "flower power" model, with no CPU box to have sitting around on my desk. Everything is built in and the machine is decorative with multicolored flowers all over it to boot. I'm having fun with my new baby.

Hey Gals!!!
Hope everyone is doing well. I sure do feel like I'm AWOL with you all. Definitely not enough free time to devote to my favorite busters!!! So sorry for not being on much. Just wanted to say that I'm leaving for Indiana tomorrow night after work. The wedding is this coming Saturday and I'm sure I'll have a small chore list when I get there. They have really got everything under control. If all I do is keep the kitchen straightened up and cleaned that will be a bit help.
Just a few short notes:
GATOR---I'm thrilled to hear you bought an IMAC. I'm an APPLE girl too and wouldn't have it any other way. I LOVE the flower power ones. But we can't afford a new one for me right now. I'm running a pretty old one. But it will have to do for a while. Glad to hear that somebody else is on the mac platform.
MELF---I am doing pretty well with my walking. Yesterday (Sunday) I should have done the treadmill, but I had been outside planting flowers and herbs and washing cars. And my knees were about done for by the time I finished that work. On the Kimmy Sweat-o-meter, I was really generating some "glow" so I figured I got a pretty good workout. I am going to try and walk-run with my niece this week. She's a great motivation, because she has really stayed in shape duirng her first year at college. A lot of people blimp up during that first year and she looks great!
KAREN---Thanks for the article about green tea and thyroid stuff. From someone with a bumpy thyroid, thanks. I am always interested in hearing about such things. Did I tell you that I think I'm going to have my bumps removed this summer? I talked to the ENT and said I was tired of waiting around to find ou they have turned cancerous. So he said it would be an easy operation. I am not relly loking forward to it. And will talk to my regular dr abou tit in June when I go. Hmmmm, my first time in a hospital and going under the knife. (But that ENT is so cute . . . what could possibly happen????)
NANCE---Glad to hear you and the fam enjoyed the stroganoff. It is so yummy. I had forgotten about posting that. You're right about the ww pasta being better. We prefer it.
DEB---Still waiting on the pics. No hurry. I'll be gone all week. Although my brother does have a scanner. If they come tomorrow, I'll scan them over there and post from there. I echo what the others have already said so eloquently . . . thanks for all you do!!! I so appreciate it. BTW, I am fully aware that I am 2 weeks behind on getting the motivational mondays on the right spot. But I will do them on Sunday. Please don't think that I've given up on doing this. I'll get to it. Just not in the next couple of days. Wow, you busted me about not reading the others boards. Thanks for the reminder. I am so bad about going anywhere else but here. Some times with work and everything else, there's just not enough time. Blah, blah, blah . . . you'd think I work full time and have 9 kids or something. Ha!!!
Well, gals, I've decided to stop weighing for a week or so. Since I won't be home, I'm just giving myself a week off. I was really starting to make it an "issue" so I'm backing off and will start again soon. Still eating okay. There are hershey kisses inthe house STILL and I'm definitely giving them the cold shoulder. Yippee. I am stronger than them.
Also . . . one request . . . please keep my city in your thoughts and prayers. The Grand jury came back with two misdemeanor indictments for the policeman who shot the unarmed kid. This is not going to go over well. I wonder what tonight and tomorrow will bring. There are MANY hurting people here who want answers. I just hope that goodwill is restored soon. This is very unsettling and very sad.
On that not-so cheerful note, I will close. Must recheck my suitcase. And get ready to hit the sack.
Take care. I'll be thinking about you and probably lurking if I get a couple of free seconds. Don't anybody talk about me while I'm gone. Ha!!!

Also, I did manage to go to Landsend.com and do the virtual model. At first I didn't enter in the right information and my "mini me" was quite large in the buttocks area . . . like a huge shelf! It was depressing. I was freaking and saying . . . how can I go out in public like this. And the view from the back end . . . PLEASE!!!!! So I went back and put in my accurate measurements and was kind of pleased with how they say I look. It was very surprising and MUCH better than the first view. If you do it be sure and put in the exact measurements in. The quick model may mislead you.

Quilter - definitely check out that thyroid site. It's got much more info than just thyroid issues. Better to take care of those bumps before something worse develops! Keep us posted. That was funny about the virtual you at Landsend. Actually, the corporate offices and ordering center are very close to Madison and Landsend is a big thing around here. There are actually two outlet stores here, but I usually don't find too much there. I don't order much out of the catalog either. They do have very good quality clothes, though, but I guess I like to pay less so I don't feel like I have to keep it forever. I hope that Cincy can keep it's control through all the turmoil. You're right, it's a very sad situation. Have a great trip!

Good evening to all
Well, today was the first day back to work after a week off, boy I hate going back. Everytime I turned around someone had something else for me to do. I guess that is what happens when you are the only one to really understand an scheduling program.
About the thyroid problems....I don't have to worry I don't have one. I had my thyroid removed in Nov 1998 because of cancer. It was a very easy operation....as far as operations go. NOtr really painful, my doc took the stitches out two days after surgery, before I came home. I did have to stay two days instead of one because my calcuim levels dropped and I needed some Iv meds, but nothing major. The follow up treatments was worse....but if you don't have cancer you shouldn't have to do that. Now I just take a pill everyday. If only my old doc thought to check me for this five years ago, I might not have gained so much weight. BUT thank GOd to my doc now, first time she saw me she asked about thyroid testing and had it done. six weeks later I has surgery.
I agree about being in Florida is not the south...I really don't think that it is anything. I still have a problem seeing doctors coming to the hospital to see patients and stuff with no socks on. I know that I am old fashioned, but still professionalism is a nice thing to see.
Well, I stepped on the scale at work, the one I usually use and it didn't look as good as the one at Publix the other day. I know that I'll wait till WIW and see what happens.
I hope all has a great Tuesday.

I don't know how you stay up so late...I am down for the count if I get comfortable..
There is still room in the wagon for you...we'll move over,
but I got to warn you...BRING A PILLOW...this wooden plank is uncomfortable!
I forgot to tell you...I read yesterday that most people are allergic to wheat & dairy and don't even know it.
This causes weight loss stall....Triscuits are wheat....
LAURIE I can relate to the agrivation at the hospital. I haven't worked in "bed control" in five years, but still get calls on a daily basis, because people know it will be done correctly if I do it!
I agree about the "naked feet"....we have that here too

Back from my conference with lessons learned. Most importantly (and tip for Tuesday) - if you cheat learn from the experience and apply it! Thursday at my conference I made the choice to cheat while away from home, I made lots of excuses to myself about why it was ok and even had a partner in crime. Here's the worst of it I ate, muffin, cheese cake, and a macadamia/white chocolate cookie. (I know, I know...BAD, just wait til the story is over). The muffin at breakfast was ok, but not worth it, although it made me want to learn to make sf muffins. The cheese cake was devine and I felt ok after lunch, although I was so sleepy in the conference, that's where the cookie came in on our last break. Talk about "sugar poisioning" the rest of the day, my gastritis flared up, I had to take an additional dose of my daily medication, I was nausiated, cranky, lightheaded and tired! My partner and I both reacted with some of the same symptoms, so when the conference broke for the day we walked for an hour and then went and had a healthy dinner and we were good the next day. What I learned is that the Doctors who told me to start SB really new what they were talking about. I told my doctor yesterday about my sugar rampage and he laughed and said that it shows how sugars react in one's body. I don't care to have this experience again! I'm not perfect, nor do I say it will never happen again, as I'm 30 and have many years ahead of me, but I will say that it won't happen again for a very, very long time as feeling like I did Thursday is not worth the 5 minutes of the sweet taste. SF icecream does the same and it doesn't make me ill.
Hope my story explains my tip, when we make bad choices there ARE bad consequences. Our bodies were not made to consume the junk we put into it, but healthy foods and treats that it can derive nutrients from.
I'm printing out all of your posts and I'll be back tonight.
Although I still cannot chat as I'm not an AOL subscriber.

Thank for for sharing about the Headache information. I have an employee at work that I'm convinced is her problem and Lara and I talked with her briefly yesterday when she came in for her office visit. She admitted she was addicted to sugar, but doesn't have any desire to chnage her lifestyle. Oh well, all you can do is try to help!

The woman, the myth, the Legend!!!! How great about your quitting smoking!!!! That must be harder than trying to loose weight! Hats off to you. That's wonderful.
If you get weak, just look at some pictures of someones

Have no fear, I am still here.. I think. I have been faithfully reading all the posts, but just haven't felt up to posting. I am a bit disgusted at this point. I have been at the same weight for a month now :( And I have a problem that when I start to feel discouraged, WELL, I tend to be not OP 100%. Before I know it, this vicous cycle starts. I really don't know what else to say. I know you all have heard this from me before. That's part of why I have hesitated to post. Right now, my IBS is bothering me - yes, a consequence from being slightly not OP:eek: So, with me having bowel spasms, I haven't felt up to getting on TM either. I did manage to walk 3 times last week. I have enjoyed keeping up with the rest of you and your accomplishments.
Rhonda - Thanks for asking about me, friend. If it makes you feel better, we were lazy and didn't make it to church on Sunday either:nono:
Lara - I totally agree with the insight you shared on making bad choices!!!!!!
Deb - About last weeks' poll.... I was one of the OTHERS:lol: It's sort of like how Marie explained it, I LOVE french fries, chips, and basically I just have a weakness for wanting to overindulge on most foods, PERIOD!!!!! Since doing SB though, I have really acquired a good bit of will power.
I am heading outside now. It has been really breezy here the last week or so. I have a few last veggies I need to put in garden, and there are some weeds popping up their heads trying to take credit for being a veggie, I guess!!!!! I will be hovering, keeping up with all your stories. Have a great day, everyone :D

Good Tuesday Morning Everyone!
WOW, it seems like it's been forever since I was on the board, and not since yesterday. Sorry I was MIA last night, I had a long haul at the school volunteering and didn't get home til 9pm, was starving, and by the time I wolfed down some food, watched RAYMOND then got my pj's on, I was just beat and crawled into bed before 10pm.
Did get in my walk this morning, did 4.5 miles-1/2 mile or a bit more jogging. The scale is still the same, but I'm happy to say that I lost a 1/2 inch in my stomach area, so that's some type of progress, I hope.
Found something interesting at a small HFS I go to once in a while. They're a cereal I found out, but they sure make a great small snack chip, they're delicious!!! They are called BALLASTOOS from a company called Seitenbacher, which are from Germany. Ingredients are: whole spelt (wheat) coarse meal, spelt (wheat) bran, apple juice and cinnamon. Nutrition facts: 1 cup, 90 calories, 1 gram fat, 22 carbs, 6 fiber, 4 protein. They do have a website, www.seitenbacher.com I got this huge 17.6 ounce bag, which was about $3.69, I believe. There are no artificial flavors or colors which was another thing I liked about them. YUMMY!!! Here's a link to the actual page that shows the product:
It's TUESDAY TIPS and I found this tip interesting:
MILK 2% low-fat milk doesn't get 2% of its calories from fat - it gets 38%. The 2% refers to the amount of weight that comes from fat. 1% milk is 20% fat, and skim is 4% fat
BEACH, I hope you had a nice bday day with your hubby. Where did you go for lunch? Glad to see you prevailed and got in your walk/run-many days I feel like not going and push myself to go, and I'm happy afterwards. Thanks for the kind words, they do help me to keep chugging along.
ROSALIE, thanks for the kind words as well. I'm sure we'll get to meet one day in the near future! Thanks for explaining about the OTHER with the fries. Have you ever tried oven baked fried sweet potatoes fries? I know that TJ's had them at one point in their stores and how I wish we could find them locally, but I think I'll just have to break down and make them-I bet they would be yummy!!
BOB, I'm here!!! I keep forgetting to ask you, did you ever try the Lactaid milk?? Hope Skeeter gets his bath soon, he's e-mailed me and told me he feels a bit neglected, he wants you to take him to the doggy day spa!!!!
FILLISE, Oh how I wish I could see you in your crown!!! I can only imagine what types of outrageous hats your guests must of worn if cameras are forbidden!
LISA, glad you had a good time with your daughter-I'm sure she enjoyed it and having you with her made it that much more special-hey and to be down another pound, that constitutes as having a fabulous time!
MELF, hope that wisdom tooth isn't bothering you too much, that's terrible you drove all that way, but I guess things happen. Yes, I love Ralph Marstons sayings, what an insightful human being. I wish I could come up with things like that! How's the walking coming along??
SOL, that book must of been titled with my kids in mind! I'll look for it when I go return my other books in about 2 weeks, thanks for the tip. What's happening with the sink hole-those are really unbelievable-I've seen some in Florida that eat up houses at a time. My sister's backyard started getting a small one that they had to fill with dirt. Good luck at the endo. tomorrow, let us know what he says!!!!
KAREN, thanks for posting that article on the green tip-would love for you to post it over on the RECOMMENDED READING BOARD!!
GATOR, where do you get the energy to do all you do?!? Is this a busy season for you??? Glad to hear you are enjoying your new computer-are you finding it easier to load up the board now?
ACES, NANCE answered your question about the weights at the end of posts. I also like to post when you/we started SB under those numbers, as it helps people see how long you've been on this WOE.
Here's my sample menu from SUNDAY, I pretty much stayed in line with all my targets:
7.7oz asian pear
1/2 c. egg beaters
1 oz lf jalapeno cheddar cheese
1 sl. Ezekiel bread
1 tsp lf cream cheese
1 tsp sf jelly
4 mini ww cookies
9 oz strawberries
1 sl. sf bread
3.5 oz meat
1 tbl light mayo
1/2 c cottage cheese
1/2 c extra calcium milk
1 oz Fiber One cereal
4 mini pretzel twists
1 lf hot dog
some spinach salad I made, small amount (spinach, olive oil, blue cheese, pecans, onion and spices)
1 ounce peanuts
QUILTER, again, have a great time at the wedding! I must confess, I didn't get the pictures out last week as promised-forgive me:^: I'll try to get them out the end of this week, along with BARB'S daughter's wedding present and my friend in the UK's daughters sunglasses - see, you can spell procrastinate DEBBIE!!! Hope things stay calm up there!!!!
RHROO, you're loving those comments, aren't you?!? All except, don't lose any more, I hate when I hear that one-and they usually come from the ones who told you you need to lose weight in the first place, at least they have for me! SAS is on once in a while, MS LIZ, no more and AMSER just posted as I was righting this:) Maybe the others are lurking :)
LDBLOND, looks like you had quite a party there at your conference! I'm surprised you didn't OD on sugar! Thanks for sharing your personal tip, it surely keeps me in line! Sorry you weren't feeling to hot after that episode, but I guess we do live and learn, don't we???
NANCE, thanks for the praises. I just wanted to say I'm so glad you joined us-your participation in the board in the short time you've been on is wonderful and honestly, I feel like you've been here a really long time!
AMSER, I can sympathize with you, I too have been going up and down with the same few pounds for 2 months, but I have been OP 100% and walking, so if you feel like you do without being OP 100% and exercising, imagine how I feel:) Stay focused, stay OP and you'll lose!!!
If I forgot anyone, it's not intentional, a hello to you all as well!:D
Okay gals, I'm outta here, I need to get some things done before the day is shot. Going to try and get some of my favorite foods posted on the new board before I go though :)
Please don't forget, TONIGHT IS CHAT AT 9:15PM EST Here's the link to the SB CHAT ROOM:

Good morning ladies!
My tip is a very basic one and one we've all heard before......NEVER, EVER go grocery shopping when you're hungry! I have made some of the worst decisions in my life when put in that situation. I tend to binge eat when really hungry, and all those tempting foods somehow manage to just JUMP into my cart!
MELF: I hate going to the dentist, too. Funny story: when I was about 13 I had my wisdom teeth taken out. Well, I guess the teenage hormones were raging inside me......I thought my dentist was soooo cute....and when I had the gas mask on I told him! :o I thought I was just thinking the words...but I must have said them out loud because he had to stop what he was doing and laugh! Very humiliating!!
KAREN: thanks for the info on the green tea. I just bought some and it is very good. It is "mixed berry" by Lipton.
GATORGAL: can't wait until football season! I think this board will REALLY liven up then. Have fun w/your new computer....we're never too old for new toys!
BOB: I had to laugh at the thread about the white shoes in the South. My daughter wanted to wear some new white shoes before Easter :nono:, and I had to explain why she couldn't. She still didn't understand, so I told her to go ask her grandmother!!
ACES: be sure to check out some of the recipes on the SB recipe board. Also, if you don't have the SB book, get it......it has a lot of ideas for menus.
QUILTER: you and your city are in my prayers. I know how it feels to live in turmoil.....unfortunately in the South, we still have our share of that kind of thing.
RHROO: Maybe we can start a "Triscuits Anonymous" group?!? I know that felt GREAT to hear those compliments.....especially the one that is looking up to you as a role model! Talk about motivation to stay OP!
IDBLOND: You are so right about the bad choices/bad consequences. When I start making bad choices it seems to have a snowball effect in my life.
ANN: Don't worry about being off program in the past....start new today! I could tell how frustrated you were by your post. Reread your signature line:" Never regret yesterday because it cannot be changed;
Instead make sure today does not become a regret of tomorrow."
DEBBIE: You continue to be such an inspiration to me. You may be struggling w/those last few pounds....I'm sure that's frustrating....but just think how much good you are doing your heart w/that exercise! Sometimes we need to remember that being healthy is inside and out!
Ross will have his blood levels checked today....they were high last week and we may have to up his medication. It's a real balance act: on one hand you don't want his counts to be too low (greater chance of infections, tired, etc...) but you don't want them to be too high either (the chemo is supposed to supress his levels....it decreases the chance of the leukemia cells coming back). Say a prayer for us today that we will get him where he needs to be. We really are so lucky, though: he's feeling GREAT....they are many people I know who are having a much rougher time than we are.
Hope everyone has a great day!

KAREN – Thanks for the information on Green Tea – I do love the Good Earth brand the best. I’m going to ask my Endocrinologist about it and tell her what I’ve learned since I am still not losing weight.
GATOR – Good to see you back! The new computer sounds awesome! We added RAM last year and we might add a bit more and a CD burner also. We use the CD burners at work and they’re awesome. We’re working in Longwood off Hwy 434 near Douglas and Markham Woods Rd. (TERRIBLE TRAFFIC!!) Takes me twice as long to get here in the mornings -–and that's on the back roads! I REALLY hope they can get us back “home” quickly, but it isn’t looking too good right now. There was a ½”crack in one of the walls that went from the ground all the way up to the 4th floor. The little guy in the bright green shirt putting a monitor in the back of an SUV was one of our guys. Thankfully Sprint and us have alternate locations – I feel sorry for the smaller businesses that don’t really have anywhere else to go – and especially the cleaning people and the Mom & Pop Deli – they’re probably just having to eat it while this is going on.
BOB – Sorry you had such a challenging day! Hopefully today will be much better. Who’s Skeeter? What manner of beast must he be? They had the most adorable Shar-pei/Yellow Lab mix puppies at the shelter the other day – I was soooooo tempted to bring one home, but Vince would kill me. I’m working on him, though. Dog or Cat – I want one!! I think people tend to mind their manners better when they dress better – something about how it impacts our mindset….people in FL get “too comfortable” sometimes, I think, and forget common courtesy, but then again, Vince still opens the car door for me – getting in AND out. I love it! Makes me feel like a LADY – a real special lady!
QUILTER - “Kimmy Sweat-o-meter” LOL!! I thought I was the only one who used a Sweat-o-meter!! Good for you on staying away from those kisses – the real ones are much more satisfying – safer, to boot! I’m praying for Cincinnati to stay quiet and peaceful – I’m glad that the mom is setting an example for the others – being disappointed and disagreeing with the decision, but still maintaining her cool…..HOWEVER, I do think teachers and police officers are grossly underpaid, underappreciated and under-respected for all that they do for society. (I’m totally biased being married to a police officer, though) They are continually changing the “rules” to make things easier and easier for the bad guys to get away with so much – That stupid kid had 14 outstanding warrants!! His momma and others need to be careful about making him into some sort of martyr or example for the black youth. Vince arrested some guy Thursday for suspended license, resisting with violence and assault on an officer --- this guy’s 10th time to be arrested for the SAME THINGS – and now he’s right back out on the streets!! If an officer was to shoot or maim him, he’d probably face the same rioting by people…..Okay, I won’t get started on that stuff…..Have a blast at the wedding!
RHOO – Glad to know you’re lurking – we’ll watch what we say – THONG – THONG - THONG – That’s for you and FROG. (where are you FROG?) What kind of band is Hubby in? What does he play? Glad you got built up and re-motivated by all those kind comments – that’s da bomb!
NANCEMEISTER – Try Good Earth Green Tea Blend – it’s got lemongrass mixed in with the green tea and you don’t need any sweetener with it. I bought the Lipton brand one time because it was cheaper – ugh! I’ll pay extra for my Good Earth. :) Your energy and enthusiasm is refreshing! Thanks for posting!!
DEBBIE – You are my exercise inspiration!! I went yesterday and drove around the neighborhood clocking different paths I can take since I HAVE to resort to walking everyday since the gym is closed with the rest of the office building. (Ha! That jerk-wad who ran me off can’t work out their either!) You’ll love the Desperation Dinners book – I wonder if you’ll pick out the same ones Vince and I did. I think the favorite SB food is a good idea - I'm going to have to think on that one!
LISA – LOL!!! I hate that feeling of “Did I just say that or think it really loud?” I’m sure that it just endeared you that much more to the Dr. We’ll be praying for everything to go wonderfully with Ross today.
We’re all still working on top of each other here. Today they brought in the rest of the employees who they told to stay at home yesterday while they tried to figure out where to put them. The owners are really going above and beyond trying to keep us all working. I guess I haven’t been lifting enough weights when I do my curls because today my biceps are killing me!! Heaving all those computers and monitors yesterday really gave me a work-out! I don’t know if I’ll be home in time for chat tonight, but I’ll try. Vince and I have to go get all our Mother’s day cards and we’re going to look at a gym closer to our house that has free weights for him to use. He really misses a big gym with lots of variety available. The one across from work doesn’t have enough machines to keep him busy and happy -–but I'm still going to go on Monday next week for an evaluation and to see what all they have to offer, but if he really likes the gym closer to home we may end up getting both of us memberships there. I just hope they have some reasonable rates for a personal trainer for a couple of weeks to get my butt on a plan. I’m really frustrated at the lack of weight coming off – I’m no where near goal – so what’s the deal?? I am going to pull out my WW Points info and start doing that the SB way – I think.
QUESTION: Kashi Go Lean and Kashi Good Friends – Okay or Not Okay? SilkWave Soy Milk – Okay or Not Okay? Soy milk details: 1 cup – Calories 100 – Fat 3.5 – Carb 10 – Fiber 0 – Sugar 6 – Protein 6 – Ingrediments (Ingredients) – water, soybeans, milled cane, calcium carbonate, vanilla, sea salt. It appears to be less sugar than any of the other soy milks I’ve looked at. The plain flavor has less sugar/serving, but they were out of the plain in the store – this is the information on the vanilla flavor.
DIET RITE COLA – No Aspertame – No Sodium – No Caffeine – No Calories

Solshine
Kashi Go Lean has 26 grams of sugar per serving. Ugh!
I used to love it too! The puffed Kashi is safe, but you might need to add some berries, or artificial sweetner.
Haven't read the label of Kashi Good Friends yet, but I'm willing to check it out.

Hey Ladies,
I have a question that may have been answered.
I purchased a box of Hodgons Mill "Insta Bake". The box reads "stone ground whole wheat" I'm getting conflicting reports from other sources concerning this flour that I have used to make pancakes and biscuits.
Is this the correct kind? What's the deal with "graham flour" I see at the market?
Can anyone clarify this for me?
Thanks,
StarChaser

Sorry, Star - I'm clueless.
I just got home and checked the box of GoLean and here's the information on it:
Soy protien, soy grits, corn bran, corn, evaporated cane juice, honey, whole oats, long grain brown rice, whole rye, whole hard red winter wheat, whole triticale, whole buckwheat, whole barley, wheat bran, oat bran, whey, sesame seeds, salt.
OKAY - I guess if I could convince them to leave out the corn stuff it might not be ALL that bad, huh? Maybe this is one reason the weight hasn't been coming off so easily. I've had a bowl about 1 or 2 times a week of this stuff. I need to pay better attention.
Gotta run - Have a good night everyone!

Been a long day here. Went to visit Mom this am, then attended a friend/former patient's funeral. Tonight DH & I are going to the funeral home for a young woman, about 24, I think, that got killed in a car accident yesterday am. This young woman was one of my former Acteens, a Mission Study group that I use to teach at church. She had a baby girl about 2 weeks ago. So very sad. So I will not be at chat again tonight.
Debbie & BOB]/b] No, the wisdom tooth is not bothering me. I'm very thankful about that & fo rthat resaon, it will have to wait till after vacation. It needs to come out because I have a space between it & the next tooth where x-ray shows a cavity starting. He cannot fix it because of the narrow space, so the wisdom tooth has to come out. But thank you both for asking.
[b]Debbie, I agree, some people have such a flair with words. I admire that in some writers. I'm afraid with all that has been going on, I have slacked on the walking, but have not given up. I will get back to it. In the meantime, I am staying active with other things such as yard work. Oh my aching back!
Lisa_A_A, Thanks for sharing your dentist story. I'll have to be very careful when I do go back to get that tooth out, because I think my dentist is cute too  Sure hope Ross's blood work comes out ok.
RHOO, Keep up the good work. Take the good compliments, & overlook the bad ones. :D My DH walked in the other night & we had company. He greeted me with a kiss & "hello my skinny wife" Of course we both know I'm NOT skinny, but my company, a woman, said "Oh, how nice to be called that." She understood how much of a compliment it was. My DH is such a flatterer, I  it!
GATORGAL, Congrats on your new toy...hehehe I know you much be trilled with it. Sounds awesome.
KAREN, I love Celestial Seasoning brand of Green Tea. They make a Lemon, Honey, Gensing flavor that is my favorite.
StarChaser, Sorry, haven't tried the Insta bake, but it seems as though if it says stone ground & doesn't have any corn/sugar added, it should be ok. Have no idea about the graham flour, but it doesn't sound familar to anything I've read on this board.
SolShine, Yeap, sounds like that Kashi is full of :nono:'s I like the plain Kashi. I mix it with raw oats & milk. I also noticed that Super Walmart has the plain Kashi in bags for $0.65 a bag, about the same weight as in the boxes that you pay $2 plus for. It's just as good.
Miss seeing Viv & others on board. Any word on her dad?
Sorry if I missed anyone else that I needed to address.
 EVERYONE!

Wow! I’m loving this even more because I’m now set up on Roadrunner, a cable modem that is offered by Time Warner here in town. This new computer is 5X faster than my old, with 20X more HD space and 2.5X more RAM. With the cable modem it is like lightening. The only thing that slows me down is that I can’t read as fast as this machine boots up and scrolls down. Awesome!
SolShine I have a CD burner on this and think I will have fun writing my own CD one day. BTW, If you live off of 436,going west on 436 and turn right at the first traffic signal after you cross 17-92. I forget the name of that road. Follow it around (it goes past some warehouses) and it eventually will curve to the left and end up on 427, right about where Milwee middle school is. Turn right onto 427 and turn left at the next light. That will put you onto North Street, although the name might be something different right there. Follow North street, crossing over Palm Springs drive and continuing along, even where North turns sharply right. That will take you to 434, almost to the I-4 intersection with 434. Turn left onto 434 and go just about 100 yards and you will be at the light at Douglas. You should miss a lot of traffic that way.
I missed your post about your experience in the gym at your work. I’ll look for you at Fitness Coach. Be sure to look at the pix on the wall above the water cooler. They are fantastic, and show amazing changes in only 12 weeks in men and women who have followed his plan. I usually go on Mondays at 3 and Thursdays at 9:30, but I had a computer guru here for 5 hours yesterday, so didn’t make it.
Where is “Hell on Wheels”? I haven’t seen her lately? I always enjoy her posts.
I am going to have my friend come over again because I want to set up my new e-mail account with my new domain name. Also, the Roadrunner people don’t know anything about MACs and they left me with a couple of problems I don’t know how to solve.
Well, gotta go and have something for dinner. DH has a meeting tonight and won’t be home till about 9:30. Hopefully all these meetings will end soon and we will begin having a more sane life.
Take care.

Afternoon All:wave:
Thought I'd get in a quickie before tonights chat:)
Picked up a ready-made chicken for dinner tonight- I surely can't screw that up, now can I?!? Hmm, what to make on the side now.
Wasn't feeling too hot earlier, a bit barfy, but feeling better now. Usually when I feel barfy I have a loss the next day, so here's hoping!
LISA, I must admit, I don't own a pair of white shoes, except my Birkenstock sandals, but if I had a pair that I wanted to wear, I'd wear them, no matter what the season would be. I don't follow fashion, just comfort-so I'd be a guilty party of doing that if I had white shoes. I do try to focus on how much better I feel, but seeing those numbers so close in reach and the scale not cooperating IS frustrating. If I wasn't trying so hard it wouldn't be so hard I think-but I venture on:) My woes seem so insignificant compared to others, esp. like Ross'-who am I to complain when you really think about it! Please let us know how his Dr.'s visit went!!!!
SOL, hope you found a nice route to walk-I get in my car when I take a new route just to know exactly how many miles I've gone. When I get the book, I'll let you know what I find interesting in there-should I say interesting and easy!!!! I haven't eaten the Kashi Good Friends since on SB, and I really liked it too! Why I stopped eating it was the corn, evaporated cane juice, corn bran, honey, mixed fruit concentrate (which has pineapple juice) & malt syrup. When I went to look at the box, I realized I had 1 open box and 2 unopened, so to Mother's house they go! The Go Lean, I haven't bought, but from what you just posted, I say you got your answer there! The corn stuff isn't good, it goes over the 3gram of sugar rule-though I don't know how bad it would really effect you to eat 1-2 bowls a week. The soy milk has milled cane, which is sugar. Look and see what the plain one has in terms of grams of sugar. I'm not sure if soy has natural sugars or not, you may want to look that up on GOOGLE. Diet Rite, does it have Splenda? How do you get the ART files loaded up on the board where the jpg files are? Each time I try an art file it doesn't allow me to do it, only jpg or gif files:?:
STAR, what else is in the instabake mix? My BIL just gave me a bag of the WHOLE WHEAT FLOUR (Graham Flour)that he used just to make 1 thing and didn't want it anymore, and I too was a little perplexed as it does say it has the all the grain parts in it, yet it isn't stone ground. Here is a little of what info I was able to find on the web:
Both graham and whole wheat flour contain the bran, germ and endosperm of the wheat kernal. Graham flour is more coarsely ground than whole wheat flour. Dough made with graham flour may seem sticky and the bread may be lower in volume. By allowing the dough to rest before kneading, the dough will not be as sticky.
Named after Sylvester Graham, a proponent of the importance of bran in flour, this whole wheat flour retains a coarse texture of the bran but the base of the flour is fine. Though considered a bread flour, if care is taken to mix lightly and quickly it makes tasty muffins and griddlecakes.
I hope the above helps decipher this a bit for you:)
MELF, sorry to hear about that young girl, that's very tragic. It is when anyone dies, but when you are young and should have a full life ahead of you, a baby, it's really much worse. Again, sorry to hear about that. Yard work constitutes as exercise-whatever you enjoy, just do it, as Nike says. My son has a way with words that's scary-I truly believe he was a writer in another life. He came home from school the other day with a poem they had to write in class in 5-10 minutes. Each kid was given a picture of something and had to base it on that picture-what he wrote was astounding-words I've never heard before that he actually knows the meaning of. I told him it would of been different if he was home and had the computer to look up these odd words, but this was just off the top of his head-makes me feel mighty dumb!!!
LDBLOND, you don't need to be on AOL to get into the chat room-so do try if you are around!!!
And with that, I'm going to bid you all adieu-at least until 9:15. Again, please remember CHAT TONIGHT AT 9:15PM EST and remember TOMORROW IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!!!
Oh, just a little boast for Eli-last month he made Manager of the Quarter, and yesterday he found out he made Manager of the Quarter for the entire SE region! He's already earned a future trip to Seattle to meet Howard Schultz, ceo of Starbucks, so I hope this added feather in his cap will give him something more. I took him 2 balloons to work today that said CONGRATULATIONS!!! :)

Hey Rhonda thanks for noticing that I was MIA. Wow it's been unreal. I suddenly became obsessed with finishing my website. I had the domain name registered for 5 months now but this weekend, I had to get it done. So I've spent over 20 hours there in the past four days, and had a 3 hour accounting class on Monday night as well (and tomorrow night). I'm not sure how I'm goign to make it through the rest of the week. I've been doing okay on food, a bit too much Uncle Sams cereal but at least I'm regular! ;) Been taking the time to cook but have already skipped two days of running. :( Looking forward to WIW (yeah right) and hearing how everybody did....and we'll see if I have the courage to step on the scale! Okay gotta get some sleep....hope to catch up with the posts one day!

Good Morning,
Monday was too hectic for me!!! I am working on a pilot for our state for an alternate set of books for our K-3 students the Diagnostic Reading Assessment, better known as the "D--- DRA"! So, Monday I had to finish up the testing, and prepare lesson plans for a day and a half. On top of all of that my allergies acted, and none of my prescriptions were working. So, there I was off to Baton Rouge taking Benadryl with my meds, and I still looked like a "crying Rudolph"!!! But the meeting was actually interesting, and I felt good to be able to have my voice heard for teachers in our state.
Needless to say with the stress, and luch provided I was NOT op.
Today I have an appointment with a new GYN. Ugh!!! But I really was happy to get in so quickly. I will weigh there, and hope that I get some answers to my problem. I'll keep you posted.
I have to teach the second half of the day, and then the"Teacher of the Year" banquet is tonight. ( I was voted in at the end of last year, so this is my last hurrah before the new teacher is chosen.) I know today will not be op either. But tomorrow I am prepared to DO IT!!!
I really do feel mentally prepared to begin now, and I feel certain that even with my new Dr. I will be told to stay off sugar. So, if I want to beat this, SB will have to be my way of eating.
Thanks to all of you for sharing your daily lives with the rest of us. When I don't get a chance to read all the posts I feel so left out.
Hopefully, now that I have caught up, I can at least read your posts, and post every couple of days.
Since it will be late when I get home tonight, I will probably post tomorrow. Unless things are quiet at school.
Hope all of you see the success you want on the scale today. But, as someone said, health is both on the inside and outside, so the scale is NOT the only measure of our success!!!

Hope everyone is having a good day so far...Sorry I missed Chat last night, but I was dead to the world by
9:15pm!
RHONDAYes, we seem to be the ones who are constantly falling out of the wagon....BUT...as we tell each other....WE CAN DO THIS!!
If we have to crawl in and out EVERYDAY at least we're trying.
I'm a SLOW LOSER and don't mind admitting that.
I'm everyone's constant nightmare....HELLO, I'M BOB...AND I'm A YOYO DIETER!!!
To answer NANCY'S question...I've been following SB's for a while, and I think I've been on the board since
October...All total, I think I've lost around 35lbs....I don't fret about the slow loss...I've found some wonderful friends here and I know the support is here...The devil sits permanantly on my shoulder and he wins at his coaxing a lot.
I'm a perfect apple shape and know it's important
to lose...I'm a bigger procrastinator than Debbie, but it will hit me one day, and you all will be amazed...I make no excuses....IT WILL HAPPEN
ANN[b] There is always room for one more in the wagon....We may have big ole butts ,but they aren't [b]that big Grab hold and push up...we'll help you get in...
GATOR WHO IN THE WORLD is **** on wheels?
I saw smoke coming from your way, but thought it was another wild fire I see now that it was just your new computer!
MELF Sorry about the loss of your friends...That's a hard one to swallow when they are as young as that.
DEB The price of that milk scared the **** out of me...No, I haven't tried it yet...
SOL Yes, I had a better day...thanks...SKEETER is my four legged, low to the ground weiner dog He is thirteen yrs old, almost white around his face,
weighs too much, but still thinks he's a puppy! Tell Vince you NEED ONE!!!
Sounds like you've got yourself a SOUTHERN GENTLEMAN and you better hold on to him...they are hard to find.
LISA Don't pay any attention to Debbie, she thinks black is a primary color!! I will preach :nono:
white shoes before Memorial Day and NOT after LABOR DAY till my last breath....I'm a true SOUTHERN BELLE!!
Got to get to work....

BOB--**** on Wheels is Chris, who has just now gone back to Sparkle Scamp. She was missing for several days.
We have plenty in common in regards to the dieting. When I get overly busy, which is often, I just don't take the time to "eat right." It's like I can only get so much discipline into my mind, and the food part is the first to go when other needs crowd in. With all the other responsibilities I've had, it has been difficult.

Good Wednesday Morning Everyone!
It's a nice day here in Miami, even though it's overcast with some threat of rain, it's not too hot or muggy. Got in my walk even though I wasn't quite in the mood, so I ended up walking a slow 3.5 miles-better than climbing back into bed this morning!
Okay, I'll get it "out of the weigh"-it's WEIGH IN WEDENSDAY EVERYONE I hope the scales are kind to you all today. No cigar for me, still up, which is up from last week, a pound, still up 2.5 from my lowest. I'm hopeful towards next WIW that I will be able to report a loss. I've been keeping track of my eating and I'm staying right in range with everything, so something's got to give, and soon! This sure has not been what I expected-I thought surely I'd make goal by May 15th, oh well, what more can I do!?!:?:
Thanks to AMSER, NANCE & BARB for joining into the chat last night. I know MELF wasn't able to come, but where was everyone else?
RHROO, good for you for asking for something else when you know what was offered wasn't good for you to eat. I'm not afraid to say something when I'm at families house or a restaurant-if I don't, it's only my fault as I know I would be happily accomodated. I too have a problem with receiving compliments and taking them graciously-maybe we feel we aren't deserving of them YET. I know when I reach goal, I'll feel better at being where I want to be, so maybe that's when I'll be able to accept them graciously.
SPARKLE, glad to hear you are putting some energy into your website, I'll be sure to take a look at it soon. Trust me, if you go MIA for more than a few days, I do try to e-mail you, as I do with others. I'm glad to hear you rae taking some time out from running to do some other things that you've been meaning to do:)
ICESKATE, good luck at the gyno-I have an appt Monday morning with a new one-hate going! Hope you have a great time at the banquet tonight, just try your best to make wise choices:)
BOB, hmm, well, I know the milk is expensive, but if you love milk and have a lactose intolerence problem, it's the only real way to go. I don't have trouble, but like I said, Eli does, so I buy it more for him, the kids drink regular skim, and it's easier to drink the Lactaid than buy another milk like Calcimilk and have 3 containers in the fridge. I buy the one with added calcium which helps as well. Hey girl, you're worth it!!!! You burst my bubble, do you mean black isn't a primary color??????????????????:?:
Well gals, I'm free until 5pm today, so I'm going to hop in the shower to get ready and do something, just not sure what, or which way to head, but I'll be darned if I'm going to stay home today!
Please remember, TOMORROW IS RECIPE DAY so if you have any good SB LEGAL RECIPES you'd like to share, please, try to get them on the May Recipe Board tomorrow.
I'll check in with you all sometime later today. Hope you all have a good one.

How did Wednesday get here already? Still toggling with the weight I lost from my surgery/recovery, then gained, now losing again. I was back at 156 most of the week, but rather gorged on the protiens yesterday and back to 157 today. Oh well, this is a way of life, not a diet, so I'll keep working on it.
I'm going to be a Matron of Honor in November at my best friends wedding, they bought the dress last night, size 10. Fits well, a little snug around the breast and back, but with 7 lbs to go, should be just right! I'm going to get a good nites sleep tonight, as I haven't had one yet this week (did I fail to mention my husband {I say this jokingly} didn't feel that he was getting enough attention and needed to be taken to ER on Monday morning with severe abdominal pain. Of course as we are HMO people and my husband has a lousy (and that's being nice) primary care we still don't know what caused it, but feel that it was probably his hernia. They did blood tests, but after talking to Nance I realize they could have done an xray or ultrasound. Needless to say Juan will be going to my doctor's office from now on! I'm saying prayers for my family for good health and the strength to not get everything out there. Any one know anything about echanacia (spelling?)
I'm caught up on reading the events from last week, still working on this week! You all are so busy! Some great losses and courage out there! Congrats to everyone, I can't wait to see how today turns out for all of you.
SolShine: Yes, 150 lns = size 10. I'm 157 and have just started to wear size 10, it's an exciting place for me as I haven't fit in a 10 since I was 18 or 19 (I'm 30 now). I don't want to go into a smalller size, but I think with the 7 lbs I have to lose still, 10's will fit really comfortably. Right now I fit in 10 well, but I don't want the skin and bones look so as I loose the last 7 lbs, I want to build a little on the muscle.
Barbee: Chocolate is one of the things I can't have a lot of, it sets off my gastritis, but I did find a treat that is incredible and you can't tell it's sf! Carbolite Chocolate Almond bars! Incredible! There is a warning not to eat too much as the sf ingredients can cause a laxative effect. Also, they are addictive! So what my girlfriend does is have only one square a day vs. the whole bar at once. I've only had them once and they are soooooo good that I try to stay away, so far I've managed to not eat the 3 bars one of the teacher's bought me.
The Quilter: You will cross the 160 line, it seemed to take forever for me too. Then one day the scale said 159, maybe today is your day, I'll check back later and see.
FrogLover: Hey there, way to go on breaking the standstill! Can't wait to see how you did this week. 130 here you come!
Debelli: Your fancy dinner sounded like so much fun! I use to have the control that you do, I'm trying to get it back!
Lisa_A_A: You'll be below 200 in no time! Maybe today, I'll check back and see! I hope you had a good trip with your daughter, sounds like fun. I want to get the girls in girl scouts, it was a great experience for me when I was young and I have wonderful memories. I hope that the visist to the doctor for Ross went well. I still have more to read, you may have already said if you had to readjust his meds. Your outlook on life and that there are those out there having a tougher time of it, helped me put my life into perspective. My girlfriend told me recently that Mother's need to enjoy rollercoaster rides (I hate them), because that it is the life of a mother. The rollercoaster of life is to be enjoyed and endured.
Fillise: I'm excited for you and your decision to do political consulting full time! The best of luck to you.
StarChaser: I'm sorry I missed your 2 month anniversary, congratulations on the 20lbs lost, what an acheivement. Keep at it, more will come!
Nancemeister: Just in case you read this 1st, I'm going to stop by your office on my lunch today - I'm making a care package for you.
Gardengirl: You and I seem to be on the same path, I too am arond 5'9-5'10 and my goal weight is 150, but smaller boned. Keep going and thinking positive, you've reached your doctor's goal, that's a terrific accomplishment! If you can maintain that through the summer great! If you lose more and head for your goal, that's great too! See it's a win-win situation.
Rosalie: I see you are on your way to the 200 mark, maybe it will be today, I'll check back and see.
Fruitloupe: Sounds like you are back in the wagon again! Congratulations on the loss last week, I'll check on you later today.
beachfan37: WOW!!! Congratulations on your most major accomplishment! You have superceeded your goal!
VR: Good to have you back.
That's all for now, it's way past the time I'm suppose to be getting ready for work!
Have a great day! I'll be caught up to today, by tongiht. Thank you for being patient with me being on and off the board, the past month has been way to crazy. I really miss not being with you every day. Would it be ok if on the days I can't post long letters like this, that I just pop in to say hi?

It's choas around my house right now, kids to get off to school, a hungry dog, a cat that want TLC, and I WANT A SHOWER!

Good morning!
I'm down another 2 pounds this week...WOOHOO! I just hope I can keep it off when I go to the beach tomorrow w/my sisters! We have said we are not bringing any "junk".....hopefully, I can stay OP for the most part!
MELF: I'm so sorry to hear about the young girl you knew. That is really tragic and I'm sure it was quite a shock.
DEBBIE: I doubt I'll be in chat anytime soon....Tuesdays are ballgame nights and I'm never at home! Maybe I can join in after the season is over.
Thanks to all the kind notes about Ross's doctor appointment. His counts were still too high (in my opinion) and I hope the doctor will up his medication. I haven't talked to them yet.....our local hospital faxes the bloodwork to them, and they didn't get it off until late yesterday. They will call me today, and I'll let everyone know what they say.
Hope the steel monster is kind to everyone today!

Well, I stayed the same this week. That's ok because (confession coming here) I kinda lost my inspiration and motivation and desire last week and over the weekend. I made some off program choices and really felt lousy afterwards. I was thinking that this program was really too easy and that I was not seeing much benefit from cutting out the sugar--that the reason I was losing was just because I was consuming less calories all around. Well, now I know that the sugar makes me feel lousy. And this was after just having some plain ole white bread! Well, I'm back OP and those couple of extra pounds I was up came off for today anyway.
Since I'm at work, I gotta go -- post more later!

The nurse at Children's called (while I was on the computer....gotta get a seperate phone line!) and said "Ross's counts look great....give him the shot". Well, I knew they were good because I always get a copy for myself. HOWEVER, I still don't have an answer as far as upping his medicine; I called clinic and our doctor is to call me back. I guess I better make this short and get off the phone line!!
DEBBIE: Here's a thought....what about a board to post our measurements? Or maybe list them w/our "Weigh in Wednesday" posts? I know this may be hard to do (gulp...for me too!), but it would be a really accurate way to keep up w/how we are doing. We all know that muscle weighs more than fat and sometimes the scales don't show all the hard work we are doing. I found where I had taken my measurements before I started Sugar Busters and took mine again today to compare. I measured at the chest, waist, hips and thigh. Total I have lost 8 1/2 inches. That feels even better than saying I've lost 14 pounds..... and explains why my clothes actually fit!
Just an idea.....I know you're so busy already w/this board. I really appreciate all you do! :D

Good morning all :)
I am happy to report a one pound loss this week. Weighed in at 200 pounds this morning. I'd been fluctuating between 200/201 all week. Hope by next WIW I will be in the 190's. It was a pleasant surprise this morning as I ate a bit too much yesterday. Tuesday mornings are always busy at work and I didn't have time for a regular coffee brake so had to make do with a coffee and a muffin. It was that or nothing and be starving by mid-morning. Then there was a staff luncheon which I attended. I didn't have much that was op except one small pastry. They had wraps which appeared to be made with SGWW tortillas. I had a couple of those and some veggies and salad. I didn't eat too much. But I missed having two meals without adequate protein so by late evening, after having steak and beans for dinner, I was hungry and ended up eating what I had taken to work for lunch - lentils and veggies with rice.
Melf - So sorry to hear about the loss of your friends. It's always more sad when it is someone so young. My heart goes out to that young woman's family.
Solshine - Thanks for the encouraging words. That book you mentioned "Desperation Dinners" sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out and see if they have it at my library. It sounds like your Mom is having a great time in England. I don't know if I will be doing much sightseeing in London. I'll have to see how much time I have. I was born and raised in London but there are lots of things I haven't seen of course. I have relatives who live in South London not far from Greenwich and other relatives who live just west of London. As well as visiting relatives I am hoping to go on a trip to the north of England. I would like to take a trip to the Lake District which is supposed to be very beautiful. Isn't it great that you can serve friends SB friendly food without them being aware that they are eating any differently than usual. That shows that this is a woe and not a diet.
Karen - Thanks for the info about green tea and the links to the thyroid site. Looks like there is lots of interesting reading there.
Gator - Glad you are enjoying your new computer.
Rhroo - Glad to see you are still around. Isn't it great to get all those compliments.
I have to stop now as I have to get lunch and get ready for work this afternoon.
Sorry I don't have time to respond to any more posts. Will try and catch up later.
Have a good day everyone.

A warm and humid Texas good afternoon to everyone. Nothing to report. Im busy trying to get ready for
dinner guests on Saturday. I am having my mom and mil over for Mother's day dinner. Ive been to the
grocery store and now have to get the house in shape.
My weight has stayed the same for 2 weeks. I didnt report last week, so heres the data
3/08/01 190/180/135
Im not quite sure but I think some of my clothes are feeling looser on me. Good sign. Exercise and this
woe are finally starting to payoff.
If its not to hot this late afternoon, I will be joining the dh on the golf course.
Hope the scales are kind to everyone.

Tis I again:wave:
Thought I'd get in a post while the computer was free:)
I honestly didn't accomplish much today-went looking for new bras and didn't find a thing that fit right-another joy of being a woman! Fed up and disgusted I came home earlier than I thought I would.
LDBLOND, you are so right, this IS a way of life and not a diet and as much as I'd like the scale to reflect all my hard work, I've got to look at it in a way that I'm eating, eating well and exercising and however my body reacts, there's not much else I can do. I'm not starving, I'm not having cravings-I'm the lowest I've been in 5 years-I should be happy! That dress will probably have to be altered and taken in come November! 7lbs in 7 months, a piece of SB legal cake for you! Hope Juan is feeling better! I have echanacia in the house, suppose to be good for colds. If you don't eat a lot of chocolate, but can have a little, why not go for some SB legal ones instead of the Carbolite ones? I have about a 1/4-1/3 of an ounce almost every week, it's yummy. Can't believe I have no urges for it-just decided to have a piece on a whim and do:)
NANCE, CONGRATS on the 1.5lb loss! Way to go! You'll be disappearing in front of the patients eyes! How do you walk in that incredible heat? When I walk I wear a fanny bag of sorts that has a water bottle, it's great. It has 2 mesh pockets on each side to put stuff in (tapes, coins, extra batteries) and I hang my walkman on it. Just make sure you keep hydrated. How many miles did you go?
LISA, CONGRATS! 2lbs WOO HOO!!!!!!:spin: I'm SURE you will have no problems at the beach, your sisters should be so proud of you and supportive that I'm sure they'll help keep you in line, just think of the 2lbs you lost and don't want to gain back:) AND, just think, another 2lbs and you'll be in the 190's!!! Just make sure you plan ahead, it's easy to do and will be very helpful. Glad the Dr. confirmed what you already knew about Ross' counts. By all means, if you would like post your measurements below your stats. I have only my tummy and thigh measurments that I've been doing and didn't start doing them until I was over 6 months on program, but I think it would be neat to see them posted, as I do our beginning/current/goal weights, plus the date when we started.
KAREN, hey, staying the same isn't all that bad either. Sounds like you are back on track and understand that your losses are a compilation of many factors, just as our gains usually are. I'm sure this week will be fine for you.
ROSALIE, CONGRATS! I'm thrilled you are down another pound! I know how hard it is for the weight to come off of you and even though you are a slow loser, you stick with it and it does pay off for you in time. I'm rooting for you to hit those 190's for next week!!!!! Remember when you go to the UK to look for some SB Legal Chocolates there. My friend brought some wonderful bars that I had never heard of before-a definite MUST to bring home!!!!!
CATLOVER, hope you have a good dinner this weekend, I'm sure the Mothers will enjoy. Congrats on staying the same, it's better than being up-like me!
Have to see how bad I can screw up making some brown rice now, Eli is going to make some vegetarian stuffed grape leaves for dinner tonight and my job is to make the rice-LOL, lets see what happens!!!!
Okay, I think I've covered everyone-will check in with you all this evening.

OK--official stuff out of the way. I'm up two pounds over last week--but then I figured those sugar-laden mint juleps would have that effect.
On the other hand---I've lost another 1/2 inch in my hips. So there is some progress to report. Since beginning SB in July of last year, I've lost a total of 11 inches in my hips and 10 in my waist! I wore a pair of jeans yesterday that I literally thought were going to fall off me!
For all of today's losers--WOOO HOOO!
I'm still in grading h*ll so this is all for today. Hopefully I will be doen by Friday and can really reply to everyone again.

Well, I am almost afraid to count my weigh-in. Scale gace me a 1lb loss putting me at 125. With all my irradict eating and not walking on a set schedule, I am baffled....yet happy. I pray the loss will stick. I am feeling a bit better - IBS wise. Metamucil and I may have to hang out together again for awhile..YICK:spin:
Deb,Lisa, & Rhonda - Thanks ladies for giving me encouragement and support. It's sort of hard for me to explain exactly what I go through and the feelings I deal with. I don't struggle so much for the going off program, as I struggle with seeing no results. I am still learning to understand that results will not be JUST the weight loss. That is why I am thankful for all of you and the concepts and other ways of looking at this WOE that I learn with each new day and each new post.
BOB!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so, so much for sharing the wagon with me, Rhonda, and whoever else needs it:)
Big ole butts make the "bumpy" ride less uncomfortable!!!!!!! By the way... who's driving???
Deb - Gas prices here today was $$1.53gal. My FIL talked with his sister in CAL last night, and there it's $2.12 gal  It's not MAY 15 YET..... let's think positive
Lara - You will look great for that wedding in Nov!! I hope everything turns out alright with your DH.
Lisa- WAY TO GO on the 2 lb LOSS!!!! So glad to hear the great news for Ross, too.
Karen - {{{{}}}}} Hugs for you, because I have been dealing with this same situation.
Rosalie - WAY TO GO for you too on being DOWN!!! I know you are just thrilled that the 190's are just around the corner:D
An update on the garden - I added a few last minute veggies yesterday. The rest is looking good, so far. I am still working on flowers. Made a early morning run to Home Depot today and bought more flowering bushes that attracts butterflies. That seems to be the theme I am going for for some reason. Hope everyone has a good afternoon. I am going to IL's for supper tonight. The guys are going to be tinkering with their cars:rolleyes:

Hi Gang,
Really have not been MIA but just lurking. Seems like all I have time to do is read and not post.
Anyway, I did get to weight today and am down 3 pounds (that's two weeks). So that makes 13 pounds in 6 weeks.
Everything going really well, but I have question about hot dogs. Is the all beef, 1 gram of sugar ones okay? Since I already ate some, guess it don't really matter
Hope everyone is fine.....all is good in Lake Charles.

A quick hi to everyone -
AMSER - Thanks for the hug! I'm sure you've heard it before and are very disgusted every time you hear it, but the more someone has to lose, the more they tend to lose (at least initially). Someone who has less to lose, sees the loss in smaller increments. But I bet if you did a percentage, it would be the same between both people. Just like Deb getting close to goal (Deb, hope you don't mind me using you as an example), it's getting tougher to drop those last pounds. I think you are doing great! If you are feeling better eating this way, I think that's the greatest goal to reach. I also seem to notice that even though the scale might not change, my dimensions are. I could care (well, maybe a teensy-weensy) less what the scale says if I like the shape of my body. I know you can hang in there--we will do it together--ok?!! How big is your garden? We haven't planted ours yet--don't want any frost problems, but looks like summer is here. Probably work on it this Sun. Ours is not too big. We did lots of perennial planting last Sat and Sun in the rain. Sure is a big initial investment, but lots less work next year!
Sorry I didn't join the chat last night. That's 8:15 our time and kind of prime family time yet, since DS won't go to bed until at least 9:30. I'll try to catch it next week.
Keep up the good work everyone--loss or no loss. I'm so happy to be part of such a great group of women who ARE great no matter what size!

Hi Ya'll, was a good WIW here. Down another lb. 154 now. That's just 4 lbs away from my mini goal. Got 3 weeks to go to lose them before vacation. Hey, I may just make it yet!!! That makes 20 lbs off since Jan 1st when I joined this board. This is definitely my lowest weight in YEARS! Hope to go walk afterwhile. Haven't walked since last week. I miss it.
Today was our 10th annual Nurse's Champane Breakfast. Our hospital does this for us every year to celebrate Nurse's Day, during Hospital Week. They always prepare a really nice breakfast for us & we win prizes supplied by donations from our doctors. I won a colorful pair of boxers for DH. We had quiet a laugh about that. We also do Secret Friends during this week & I got a really nice simmering pot & Gingerbread Cream scented oil from my secret friend! Made my day. Friday they will do a BBQ burger lunch for us along with fun & games. I plan to bring my WW bun for mine.
Will try to check in later. Congrats to all you losers!

I couldn't "drive my car" where I walked to measure the miles :) I walked from my house to the park and did the outside loop. I know that is 1.25 miles, but the distance from my house to the park???? Probably 2 miles all together if I had to estimate. I got up at o'dark thirty, because it's only around 70 degrees then. Have to exercise EARLY or LATE around here.

Sorry I won't have time for individual posts today, maybe tomorrow. I didn't get to the office until after 11am this morning due to the Dr. appointment and having to drive ALL THE WAY up to our "other" office because of the sink hole. I had started heading toward MY office and had to re-think my route when I remembered that we were booted from our office building. :)
Well, according to the Dr.'s scales I'm up 2 lbs from last month and according to mine I'm the same - I told her I like mine better. :D Not that I like either one of them very much, mind you. I'm going this week-end to have my cholesterol checked again to compare with 2 months ago. I shared my eating habits, good and bad, and my exercise schedule with her and so we're going to adjust my medicine some and see if that will help. I'm also counting on the personal trainer at GATORGAL's gym being able to help me get the most out of my work-outs. Vince went today to check it out and the guy gave Vince a work out -- had him working HARD! Vince was impressed AND it's cheaper than Gold's Gym and with more personal attention (which is what I was wanting) -- so we may try that for a bit. I'm just kinda discouraged. I don't mind "tweaking" things to get BETTER results, but for as close as I AM following plan I expect to see SOME results. It's frustrating.
I'm going to quit having cereal in the mornings and start having eggs more often with maybe a piece of toast and try to cut my carbs down more. Vince doesn't want me going back to millk vs. soy milk - he says I'm all "phlegmy" and stuffy-headed when I have milk and that doesn't happen with soy milk. I'm going to add counting WW points with what I eat and see if maybe I'm not as good with portion control as I feel like I am being. I'm going to be more diligent with my water intake. Add that to my exercise and DADGUMMIT something's gotta give!
**** ON WHEELS??????? WHY am I not surprised that that would be the name of our beloved SPARKLE? :D  Good to hear from you! I'm going to check out your updated site as soon as I get a few extra minutes.
DEBBIE - I have had a crazy schedule lately and have not been able to get to the chats, but I'm going to try to make it next week. I'm also going to bring in a few recipes to add tomorrow, too. I'm a goober when it comes to those clips - I just have them and don't know what's what when I post em - gifs vs. jpgs vs. bmps -- Can you open them and save them with another extension to get them to work? I do that sometimes for something else I do. Open the clip and choose file - save as - and change the extension to .gif or .jpg or .bmp depending on what I need.
GATORGAL - I'll be there Monday afternoon for my first evaluation and then I'll be going early in the mornings before work to work-out depending on the time slots available with the trainer for the first 2 weeks that might change, but once I'm on my own I'll be there around 6am.
MARIE - CONGRATS ON YOUR LOSS!!! How cool that you know your way around - I didn't realize you were a native! How'd you end up in Canada? I should've asked YOU for advice on where they should go! They should be home sometime this evening and, if I know my momma, they'll have 10 rolls of film (1+ roll per day) and she's GOT to have them developed at the 1 hour place because she's like a kid when it comes to her pictures. GOTTA love my mom! She's unique - THAT'S for sure!!
Thanks for letting me vent - I'll have better news next week, I hope. CONGRATS TO ALL THE LOSERS!!! It's great to read about your successes and your excitement and compliments!!

Hi!
http://www.shapeshakers.com/redhead.gif
Well I have a lot of catching up to do and little time...so here goes...
Anna, sounds like your handling of your hubby’s bday party was quite sane! Hope it was a good party!
Marie, yup, as I mentioned to Debbie the muffins were NOT a good idea. I don’t think I really hurt myself on them but I’ll definitely be more careful before making another batch, as I ate over ½ the batch in one day. They were good though :)
Susan, Mint Juleps huh? Speaking of de-tox, I notice that I’ve gotten REALLY sensitive to sugar too...who would have thought that would happen to me of all people. Like even when I eat too many whole-grain carbs I can feel the effects...I get really sleepy like I’m drugged. My body is actually telling me what’s best and I’m doing my best to listen. I was reading in Sugar Blues that if you get very sleepy after eating a food that you aren’t sure about, then that’s a good sign that it contains hidden sugar.
Lisa, I was one of the people who brought up the subject of headaches. I am reading a new book called Kick the Sugar Habit (I think) and it has a fascinating chapter about sugar and allergies. According to the author, sugar causes certain foods to not digest (which is also kinda what Sugar Blues says) and those undigested particles go to different parts of the body and cause allergies. That can cause headaches and other problems. I’m going to type up the whole passage when I have time because it’s quite fascinating.
BOB, regarding the book you mentioned, “by Dorothy Gault-McNemee, MD called GOD'S DIET....basically, she advocates "if GOD didn't make it....DON'T EAT IT" Well I’ve been really taking the time to educate myself about food lately and the more I’m learning, the more it seems that processed food, which makes up the majority of the typical American diet, is just WRONG. The whole concept of deliberately stripping away all the nutrients and leaving only pure empty calories (sugar and refined flour) just doesn’t make sense. however, in practice it’s hard to completely be rid of these “convenience” foods. I still find myself leaning heavily on Triscuits, Uncle Sam cereal and shredded wheat although I’m doing my best to moderate those foods. I tend to go for the stuff that’s easiest and travels well, so there ya go.
Refined sugar and flour, a relatively new invention, definitely goes against nature. However, SOME processing has enabled civilization to advance (particularly grains). What about foods that are processed with fermentation, like yogurt? What about preserved foods like pickled vegetables (a staple of the Oriental diet)? I say that (if that’s your belief system) God made EVERYTHING at some point. ;)
Oh....**** on Wheels was a custom user title that I was using for a while. I never changed my screen name. You can change your custom user title too by going to Profile/Edit profile. This is a relatively new feature of VB. That field used to be used for status only (baby chick, chick, old hen etc.) when I first started posting here. Now it’s all fancy. I know a bit about VB since my best friend/roomie is the administrator for another forum. As you see I changed my title to “Born to Run” when I changed my avatar (the little picture by my name). You can add an avatar too by going to Profile/Edit Options. If you would like help with any of this email me.
“I agree about the state of FLA...It truley is NOT a southern state!! I'm always fussing at someone at work for wearing white!” LMAO!!!! Lucky I live HAWAII where nobody cares what anybody else wears!
SolShine, so, is your office building still standing? LOL
“I'm going to quit having cereal in the mornings and start having eggs more often with maybe a piece of toast and try to cut my carbs down more. Sounds like you’re doing the same things I’m trying to do. I still haven’t gotten a really good handle on portion control...I did well for a couple days but have been so hungry. But I have been trying to have more of a variety of foods and have done quite well on that, like buying different kinds of fruits and vegetables. I would eat Triscuits and eggs all day long if I didn’t put some effort into it.
”HELL ON WHEELS??????? WHY am I not surprised that that would be the name of our beloved SPARKLE?”
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guess I should change it back.
Karen, thanks for the green tea info!
GatorGal, you’re seriously rocking with your new computer and DSL connection! You’ll be spoiled in no time flat.
Laurie, you posted, “About the thyroid problems....I don't have to worry I don't have one. BUT thank GOd to my doc now, first time she saw me she asked about thyroid testing and had it done. six weeks later I has surgery.” I’ve been through the EXACT same thing! Only about a year or so ago too. I’ve posted about it before. But I didn’t gain much weight except for the two months I was preparing for radioiodine treatment. I’ve been MUCH more careful about my body AFTER the cancer than before! I’ve worked really hard since then. Plus I have a really good thyroid specialist and surgeon. My scar is barely visible.
Aces, I have been many different weights, my highest was 215+. So I decided to use the weight that I was when I first started eating the Sugar Busters way, which was 164, 30 pounds less than a year ago. Debbie I think it was, also had the idea of putting the date we started Sugar Busters which for me was 3/26/01, after our names.
Debbie, the website is something I’ve been planning for a very long time. I feel great now that I at least have the basics down, like I have a “home” on the Web.
I know that I won’t be MIA forever around here! Again, I appreciate your dedication, enthusiasm and caring. You really are the cornerstone AND foundation of this magical cyber-home away from home.
Lara, How tall are you? sounds like you are at a good weight for you already, those last 7 pounds should be very exciting! I’m 5’4” and fitting comfortably into a size 12 at 157 pounds and can fit into most 10’s in pants. I’d really like to get to a size 6 which shouldn’t be absolutely impossible.
HELLO to Fruitloupe, Amseraphim, Iceskatefan, RodeoMom and all you other chicks! Where is FROGGIE??????
The results were quite encouraging for this WIW as usual. I am in a bit of a panic because this makes my 3rd day of not running and I always feel like I’m going to blow up like a balloon. I set my alarm last night but obviously need a license to operate the thing. So tomorrow is another day. And most likely I will weigh in then...but NOT if I’m going to stress about it. I’ve already decided that if weighing is going to cause me too much stress I’m not going to do it.
Other than not getting any sleep and my house being a disaster area, things are going well. Like I said, food has been pretty good but not perfect.
Oh, before I forget. A few weeks ago I posted an “essay” on sugar and kids, and mentioned that I would never foster the sugar addiction by buying sweets for others. Well, naturally there are those on this board who have mentioned bringing sweets to parties, etc. and you all are too nice to be offended I’m sure. ;) and of course nobody said anything. But after thinking about this subject, I realized that in REAL LIFE nothing is so simple. After all abstaining from sugar is neither a science nor a religion. Otherwise, I would be going to **** for being forced to buy my mother fruit punch at McDonalds at her request. ;) I am looking forward to being creative in the future, such as serving sugar-free desserts and other things that are in line with the SB way of eating, but to NEVER buy anything that has more than three grams of sugar is going a bit far. ;) There are times when you have to do what you have to do.
This all goes back to the struggle in my OWN head, which is the black and white mentality that I grew up with (gorge or starve, good or bad). I’ve gotten a lot better but I still have a lot of trouble. Just as an example, I like to have a bit of jam or preserves and while I buy the sugar free or all fruit kind as much as I can, certain ones (like pepper jelly) I can’t find in sugar free and so I’ll have SMALL quantities of it with other foods. I’ve done very this way and haven’t gone overboard on it, but I still feel a bit guilty. Weird huh.
Okey lunch is WAY over. I have a 3 hour class again tonight and then tonight is the final episode of Star Trek voyager this season. So we have to leave ½ hour early. ;) Oh that reminds me. Some of you may remember that I didn’t have a TV in my house for 5 years and the 32” monster was a source of contention between my roommate and I at first. Well I’ve been trying really hard to loosen up about it. Watching Voyager was one of the things I did just to kinda make peace, and after finding out that I could really relate to one character (Seven) I started enjoying it.
Then (even more oddly) I sat down one night to watch boxing, which Roomie is totally into. It seemed very silly to me but I watched it anyway to see what it was all about, and asked all kind of questions. So last night I watched another fight (usually there are 2 or 3 fights but I only watch one) between Vargas and some guy who got his butt kicked and it was quite interesting. My roommate was quite surprised that I was watching I, as was I. My point is, that I’m making an effort to loosen up and see what others are interested in and why, instead of just being in my own little world, and it’s made a big difference.
He even suggested throwing a joint bday BBQ for our bdays in June, wow that's pretty major considering the state of our relationship last month.
Thought while the time was available I could get in a post:)
I didn't screw up the rice, well, sort of. Eli didn't want me to cook it all the way because it was suppose to cook the rest of the way in the grape leaves and I forgot he had said that, but I made the rice in the steamer and it came out PERFECT!!! I can cook rice!!!!:spin:
FILLISE, don't worry about those 2lbs, you pretty much know from where they came and how to get rid of them-that 1/2" is really what counts I'd say! I can't believe how many inches you've lost-that's awesome. I wish I would of kept track from the beginning, as well as take a picture when I started, but I had failed so many times in the past that I probably didn't think of doing so at the time with the intent of not being able to stick with it!
AMSER, CONGRATS on your pound, that's great! Take it and run, just 10 to go now! Hey, at least your gas is cheaper than ours and our is cheaper than others-I pity the souls who have to pay $2 and up-I just may be pitting myself soon enough! I can't imagine you taking a RV down here with the gas prices the way there are going to be and how those things burn gas!!!
RODEO, glad to see you are still around. CONGRATS on your 3lbs! That' great! Did you ever post your BIO on the latest BIO BOARD-if not, you aren't on the mailing list, so you may want to get it on there-I don't remember if you did or not. I don't eat hot dogs that often, but did find the Hebrew National 97% FF ones were the best. Sounds like yours are okay.
KAREN, of course you can use me as an example. I always try to let the board know what's going on with me so others can see that you don't give up when the scale doesn't want to cooperate. If I had done that, I'd of given up LONGGGG ago and wouldn't be as close to goal as I am. I think we all learn a lot from each other:)
MELF, CONGRATS to you as well, another pound down the drain! Sounds like you breakfast was nice, it's good that they show you how much they appreciate you:)
NANCE, I like going early as well, as the day goes on, not only is it too hot and humid, but my gumpshin to go gets shot. I drove today to see how far I had jogged and it was about 3/4 of a mile, longer than I had thought! I'd love to get one of those little wheelie things the guys use to measure distance in the street and do all different routes to know exactly the distance, but the car is probably 1/10 of a mile or so accurate, which isn't too bad.
SOL, do you think you are eating too many carbs? Remember, this isn't a low carb woe, so try not to take them down to much, but keep them in range. As long as you aren't eating them in excess, you should try to keep them in your daily intake. I think I figured out the jpg thing, I'll know when I go to submit this post!!! Thanks!
SPARKLE, okay, you mentioned WIW was good, but what was the outcome for you this week. Keep working on that website of yours, get it done, it will feel good when you do! I'm looking forward to seeing your workmanship!!!
I'm outta here again!

I'm pretty much done with the website, but will be constantly updating. I didn't weigh in today, as I didn't go to the gym. I'll weigh in tomorrow if I can. Like I said, I'm not going to get all worked up about weighing in at a certain time...the first few weeks it caused me too much stress.

Finally heard back from Ross's clinic. They want to up his medication (mother knows best :) )from one and a half pills a night to an alternating schedule of one and a half one night, two the next. Thank goodness for his weekly pill box.....it's going to be confusing! :?: I gave him his chemo shot tonight w/no problem. I tried to talk my DH into doing it, but he chickened out!
BOB: LOL! Okay, so maybe my "measurement" idea wasn't the greatest....believe me, I'm not going to post mine ALONE! Maybe I should just keep those numbers to myself....:s:
Got to go finish washing clothes and pack! Does anyone have a SB recipe for sausage balls? I'm craving those and we usually take them on our "sister weekends". My recipe calls for Bisquick, which I somehow doubt is legal!

Just face the facts...sooner or later you WILL have to devulge the information. Just think how much of a relief it will be to finally tell someone where you are it! And what better of a spot than on the SB Board. Maybe you could give us one number a week....Like the first digit week one, etc. to EEEEEAAAAAASSSSSEEEEEE yourself
into sharing this top secret James Bond 007 information.

BOB-Tell 'em all they're dreamin.' Yep, just eeeaassseee it on up there. Maybe we'll forget the number you posted the first week!! LOL I'm with you, babe.
Just hang in there, girl and when you get ready, which will probably be a few more pounds from now, then you can. We will still love you 'till then. I can say all this because I haven't been doin' particularly well myself. Still staying at the same weight.
Do you still miss the cigs? Hope not. Can you smell things better, and does food taste better? I think it is fabulous that you gave the cancer sticks up. I wish my daughter would do it. Maybe for 4th of July-=-Independence day--she will. Get it. Independence from the weed!
Gotta go.

It's me again.I have one of those unique times when my husband is at a meeting and both my kids are gone at the same time. Very odd to have peace and quiet. What am I doing???? I'm online mastering the SB site.
I wanted to ask a question. Does anyone ever have a fear of loosing weight? Is there something comforting about having all this protection around you?
Do you feel like if you loose weight, things might change in your life?....and you don't necessarily know if it is for the better?
I have a weird theory about myself. When I was in High School I weighed 125 pounds. I was on the gymnastics team. I had guys ask me out, etc. but I never felt like anyone really liked me for me. (Bad analogy to use High School, it's such a strange time anyway!)After I grew older, and bigger, part of me"justified" if you will, that if someone could fall in love with me being "fat" that they must really love me for me. Guess what? It happened. I re-married Oct. 21, 2001 to a wonderful man. Dan the man. He truly loves me for me. I weighed 185 when I met him, and by the time our wedding rolled around (one year and one month later) I weighed 220. I finally realized that making a change would be good for me. I made a list of all the reasons why I needed to loose weight....Family History of Heart Attacks/Strokes,etc. I don't know why I finally decided to do it, but I must admit, it's a little scary for me, for some reason. I have been 100% on track, no cheating at all, and it's working. Physically the weight is coming off. I just wanted to know if anyone has or is experiencing any similar emotions during their journey, besides celebrations/frustrations on their new WOE.
I'm curious if the people who have accomplished their goals or are near goal still feel like the same person.
I also want to know if anyone shares what am expressing.
Rat-farts....now BOB will know there's a sensitive side to me after this letter. It will ruin my gnat persona!

A lot of this talks about food that we would not eat on SB, but it's pretty interesting as far as what our families are eating.
25 Diet Foods that Can Wreck Your Diet
by Colleen Pierre, RD
You know what burns me up? When one of my clients who is sincerely trying to eat better tells me she's bought a product marked with a wholesome-sounding buzzword such as low-fat, sugar-free, or all-fruit -- and I have to tell her that she's been conned.
It's truly a shame, but some common labels can mislead. Instead of saving you tons of calories or fat, or boosting your nutrition, they too often might trick you into doing the opposite. Before you sabotage your healthy diet, please check my rogues' gallery of some of the worst "diet food" imposters, and see what's really a healthy choice instead:
1. Sugar-free cookies, candy, or ice cream. Seems like sugar-free treats would be low-cal, guilt-free indulgences for dieters. And a product such as Archway Sugar Free Oatmeal Cookies, which also says "Proud sponsor of the American Diabetes Association," sounds perfect for people with diabetes.
Surprise! Many sugar-free goodies have just as many calories as the regular, made-with-sugar versions, which means they're just as likely to promote weight gain and high blood sugar! Both Archway Sugar Free Oatmeal and Archway Oatmeal cookies have 110 calories per cookie, for example. Archway Sugar Free cookies may not have sucrose (table sugar), but they're still packed with carbohydrate calories from flour and from the sugar alcohols, maltitol and sorbitol -- too much of which can result in loose stools, diarrhea, and cramps. And they foster the outdated idea that people with diabetes can eat anything but sugar. (In fact, all diabetes patients I counseled last year were warned by their doctor, "Don't eat sugar.")
Instead, follow the true American Diabetes Association recommendations: It's total carbohydrates you should count, not just sugar, so an occasional small serving of any cookie is fine. Just be sure to count the carbohydrates as part of a balanced meal. And don't use sugar-free cookies as a weight loss food.
2. Wheat crackers. Seems like any crackers with wheat in the name ought to pack a hefty fiber punch.
Surprise! The deceptive word wheat merely indicates refined white flour with very little fiber, plus a little whole wheat thrown in at the end. For example, five Keebler Toasteds Wheat Crackers (0.5 oz) have 0 g fiber -- even less than a slice of white bread at 0.5 g fiber.
Instead, try four reduced-fat Triscuits, made from whole wheat, at 2 g fiber per 0.5 oz.
3. "Real fruit beverages." You'd think drinks such as Fruitopia and Fruit Works with their "real fruit beverage" labels would be an easy way to help meet your nine-a-day fruit and veggie goals.
Surprise! They're only 5 percent fruit juice, and the standard 20-oz bottle delivers a whopping 300 calories or more. You could drink a 12-oz soft drink for half the calories!
Instead, have a piece of fresh fruit and a bottle of water, or an 8-oz box of fruit juice.
4. Trail mix. This yummy blend of nuts, seeds, and dried fruit sounds like a healthy afternoon snack. And it is rich in heart-smart fats, fiber, and trace minerals such as copper and manganese.
Surprise! Keep your eye on servings per package. A little 6-oz pack has six servings, and each 3-tablespoon serving is at least 130 calories, so a whole snack-size bag can serve up 800 calories! For less than 550 calories, you could have had lunch: a ham and Swiss on rye with lettuce, tomato, and light mayo, some baby carrots, and an apple.
Instead, have just 1 oz (a scant 1/4 cup) at snack time. One of my clients keeps tiny, paper bathroom cups in her desk for measuring.
5. All-fruit jam. Seems like all-fruit jam should count as a serving of fruit.
Surprise! Every jam, even the all-fruit kind, is made from crushed fruit with some kind of sweetener added. In regular jam, it's corn syrup (from a vegetable!), so it can't be called "all fruit." In all-fruit, pear or white grape juice adds sweetness, technically meeting the all-fruit standard. And regular jam actually has more crushed fruit.
Instead of sweating the differences, have the jam you enjoy the most.
6. Reduced-fat peanut butter. Isn't this the ideal way to have your peanut butter and still cut calories and lose weight?
Surprise! Check the label: Regular and reduced-fat peanut butters have the same number of calories per serving, because any fat that's removed is replaced by corn syrup solids. And calories count, no matter where they come from.
Instead of suffering with big gobs of dry-tasting substitutes, carefully measure your 2 tablespoons (a blob about the size of a golf ball), and enjoy them with your favorite jam (see above).
7. Salad dressing in single cups. Seems like products such as Hidden Valley's single cups of light ranch dressing would be a dieter's godsend.
Surprise! The label serving size is 2 tablespoons at 80 calories and 7 g fat each, which doesn't sound bad. But each "single cup" contains 2 1/2 servings. That's 200 calories and 17.5 g fat. For that, you could have had four Oreos!
Instead of pouring that whole cup of dressing on your salad, try the fork-dip-spear approach. Dip your fork into the dressing, spear some salad, then eat. Repeat. Toss the leftover dressing.
8. Fi-Bar Granola Bars. These bars sounds like the perfect way to pack lots of fiber into a grab-and-go meal.
Surprise! There's only 1 g fiber delivered by those 140 calories. An Apricot Clif Bar packs 5 g fiber, equal to a medium apple. Of course, the Clif Bar also delivers 220 calories (okay if you need a hefty snack before your workout) to the apple's 81 calories.
Instead, get 7 g fiber for just 163 calories by tossing an apple and a pear into your gym bag.
9. Spinach pasta. What a great way to sneak some fabulously healthy spinach into your diet for the vision-enhancing benefits of lutein and zeaxanthin, just to mention one of many benefits.
Surprise! There's so little spinach in spinach pasta that the label says no vitamin A, a sure sign that there's very little lutein or zeaxanthin either. Yet 1/2 cup real, cooked spinach packs so much lutein and zeaxanthin that eating that small amount four to seven times a week dramatically improved eyesight in people with macular degeneration.
Instead, stir thawed, drained, frozen chopped spinach right into your pasta sauce while heating.
10. Fat-free butterscotch topping. You'd think this product would drive your ice cream sundae into the diet division.
Surprise! Fat-free doesn't guarantee calorie-free, no matter how you spoon it up. In fact, Smucker's Fat-Free Butterscotch Topping has the same calories as regular Smucker's Chocolate Fudge Topping: 130 per 2 tablespoons.
Instead, carefully measure whichever topping you love, or gear down with Smucker's Hot Fudge Light Topping at 90 calories per 2 tablespoons.
11. Brown rice cakes. Seems like these must be the ultimate diet food going -- packed with whole grain fiber.
Surprise! Even though brown rice is a whole grain, brown rice cakes offer no fiber. How did they do that? Each cake is composed of puffed grains of rice, with not enough grains per cake to add up to anything. Other than a little potassium, you get no vitamins or minerals to speak of for your 70-calorie investment.
Instead, try Aak-Mak Armenian cracker bread. It's crispy, crunchy, 100 percent stone ground whole wheat and delivers 3.5 g fiber and 6 percent of your iron in each 116-calorie serving.
12. Flavored instant oatmeal packets. These seem like the perfect whole grain solution for breakfast eaters in a rush.
Surprise! Most flavors provide only 2 g fiber per 140-calorie serving made with water, and that's not enough food for breakfast. And you get about a tablespoon of added sugar per packet too.
Instead, microwave the plain version with 1/2 cup fat-free milk and a minibox of raisins, and you'll get 3.5 g fiber and 321 mg calcium for just 189 calories. Double the deal, and you'll have a breakfast that lasts until lunch, plus 37 percent of your daily iron.
13. Nutritional "energy" drinks. You'd think drinks such as Boost or Ensure would make you feel great. And it's true, if you're too sick to eat, this vitamin pill in a milkshake is just what the doctor ordered.
Surprise! One of my healthy patients gained 20 lb drinking just one can a day. What she didn't realize was that energy is the scientific word for calories! Piling a 240-calorie drink on top of your regular meals will trigger nearly a weekly 1/2-lb fat gain. And that will make you feel terrible.
Instead, take a daily multivitamin, and eat normal, healthy meals. When you really need a milkshake, cut your calorie intake for the day by 360, and head for McDonald's.
14. Complete salad kits. Salad kits sound like a dieter's delight.
Surprise! Keep your eye on the servings per package. Dole Completes Caesar Salad Kit delivers three servings at 170 calories and 15 g fat each. My husband, Ted, thought the dressing and crouton packets were just enough for one salad (510 calories and 45 g fat). Responding to my shrieking, he stopped at half, but it wasn't easy.
Instead, choose Dole Completes Light Caesar Salad Kit at 100 calories and 7 g fat per serving. If you splurge and eat the whole package, you'll only net 300 calories and 21 g fat.
15. Calcium-fortified soy milk. If you don't drink cow's milk but still want the calcium for your bones, seems like soy milk with added calcium is the obvious solution.
Surprise! Not all soy milks add enough calcium to equal a glass of cow's milk, which has 300 mg. Edensoy Extra organic soy milk, for example, has only 200 mg calcium per glass, and calcium from soy milk is absorbed only 75 percent as well as that from cow's milk.
Instead, read soy milk labels carefully. Many now contain 300 mg added calcium, and some contain even more to make up for the reduced absorption, such as Pacific Soy Milk with 400 mg calcium per glass.
16. Chicken or turkey dogs. Compared with fatty pork or beef franks, shouldn't poultry franks be the way to go if you're watching your weight?
Surprise! These babies can include the skin and fat of the bird, so chicken or turkey dogs may range from 10 to 17 g fat and 100 to 185 calories each, just like many beef and pork wieners.
Instead of being fooled by "fowl" terminology, check out the Nutrition Facts label for the real scoop on hot dogs. Oscar Mayer fat-free dogs boast a skinny 39 calories each. Healthy Choice low-fat beef franks deliciously deliver just 60 calories and 1.5 g fat.
17. Frozen yogurt. So many of my clients think of frozen yogurt as a low-cal dessert.
Surprise! They quickly learn to check the Nutrition Facts label, because there are some shockers lurking in the freezer case. Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Frozen Yogurt, for example, has 400 calories and 9 g fat per cup. Hardly a diet dessert!
Instead, by shopping smart, you can really zero in on frozen yogurts that help you stay within calorie goals, such as Edy's Fat Free Vanilla Frozen Yogurt at just 180 per cup (marketed as Dreyer's brand in certain states).
18. Bran muffins. Seems like a freshly baked bran muffin from your local bakery would jump-start your morning (and your bowel function).
Surprise! There's usually no Nutrition Facts label to clue you, but sometimes there is an ingredient list, which often shows there's more oil, sugar, and refined white flour than bran. And, in general, large bakery muffins pack more than 325 calories!
Instead, have a cup of Kellogg's Raisin Bran (187 calories, 8 g fiber), or take along a cup of Fantastic Foods Banana Nut Barley cereal to reconstitute at work (170 calories, 6 g fiber).
19. Vegetable pizza-for-one. Sounds like this would make the perfect dinner, especially if you're watching your cholesterol.
Surprise! Despite its vegetable name, a veggie pizza may be way, way cheesy, which means it unloads a big glob of artery-clogging saturated fat into your bloodstream. A Celeste Vegetable Pizza for One, for example, weighs in with 22 g total fat and half of a woman's saturated fat allotment for the day.
Instead, eat a whole Heaven's Bistro Grilled Vegetable low-fat pizza. Sure the label says it contains three servings. But the whole thing totals 570 calories and provides 12 g fiber for just 3 g fat and 0 g saturated fat. (Visit www.prevention.com/links for a link to the manufacturer's distribution site.).
20. Cereal with 100 percent of your daily calcium. Seems like Total cereal with 100 percent of the Daily Value for calcium (1,000 mg) would totally meet your calcium needs for the whole day.
Surprise! Your body can only absorb about 500 mg calcium at a time, so with Total cereal, you're really only taking in about half of the calcium you need for the day.
Instead, pour a cup of 1 percent or fat-free milk (300 mg calcium) on a cereal without all that added calcium, have two slices of reduced-fat cheese (235 mg) on your lunchtime sandwich, and a carton of low-fat yogurt (400 mg) for your afternoon snack. You'll total almost 1,000 mg calcium and get maximum absorption. (If you are over 50, you need 1,200 to 1,500 mg calcium a day, so add another glass of milk or a calcium supplement.)
21. Bags of air-popped popcorn. Air-popped popcorn is one of the healthiest low-fat snacks, right? All dietitians say so.
Surprise! The problem with the kind you buy is the fat they add after the air-popping is done. A 1-oz serving of Smartfood White Cheddar Cheese Flavored Popcorn that claims to be "totally natural, air-popped popcorn" bathes you in 160 calories and 10 g fat -- more than potato chips at 152 calories and 10 g fat!
Instead, air-pop your own popcorn, or buy the light microwave kind.
22. Fruit and grain bars. Sounds like the perfect quick and healthy breakfast on the run.
Surprise! There's practically no fruit in there -- so little, in fact, that there's also less than 1 g fiber. Bestselling brands' top ingredients are sugar and high fructose corn syrup, which can leave you hungry and listless just an hour later.
Instead of a sugary start, have two slices of whole wheat bread with 2 tablespoons peanut butter. Wash it down with a cup of high-calcium orange juice for a quick, nutrition-packed breakfast.
23. Banana chips. Seems like dried fruit must be a guaranteed low-fat snack.
Surprise! What could be lower in fat than 1/3 cup dried banana chips? Try three slices of bacon! That little serving of banana chips, which are fried in coconut oil, has 7 g total fat, almost all of which is unhealthy saturated fat. It also comes in at 140 calories. For 70 calories and 6 g fat, you could have three slices of bacon.
Instead, have a whole real banana for 105 calories, almost no fat, and more than 10 percent of your daily potassium. But if you want that chippy feel, try baked potato chips. You can have a whole snack bag of Baked Lay's Original Potato Crisps for 130 calories and 1.5 g fat.
24. Chicken nuggets. Beef bad, chicken good-that's what the chicken industry hopes you'll assume.
Surprise! Chicken is a low-cal, healthy choice only if you don't add lots of fat. Most chicken nuggets are breaded, then fried in oil. Just seven Banquet Chicken Breast Nuggets bring you 280 calories and 20 g fat. You could have had beef -- a McDonald's cheeseburger -- for a few more calories (330) and much less fat (14 g).
Instead, try Morningstar Farms Chik Nuggets; they're made with soy protein, but they taste like chicken. And the same size serving as Banquet nuggets has only 160 calories and 4 g fat.
25. Lemon and pepper seasoning. If you're watching your salt intake, this type of seasoning has become a byword for low salt.
Surprise! The first ingredient in some of these products is, you guessed it, salt!
Instead, always check the ingredients list of lemon-pepper seasonings. If salt is number one, you don't have a low-sodium product. Good choices: Lawry's Lemon Pepper has 80 mg sodium per 1/4 teaspoon. (Salt has 590 mg per 1/4 teaspoon.) McCormick's Salt Free Lemon & Pepper Seasoning has no sodium.
Registered dietitian Colleen Pierre nags her clients to rely on the Nutrition Facts label and ingredients list for accurate information. Now you can see why!

GOOD THRUSDAY MORNING Y'ALL!
You know, that's how us true Suthern's say mornin'
Have a few minutes before I have to take Michael to school, so thought I'd start this post:)
SPARKLE, don't weigh in just to report, do it whenever you feel comfortable, I just thought you had from your post and didn't post the numbers and I surely didn't want to miss them.
BOB, I'm here!! So are you back on the wagon, or is your rear hanging from the back? I think you'll be back in the driving seat instead of the middle of the wagon soon, don't you? How are you feeling lately, with not smoking? See many differences? Hmm, that wasn't pigskin you were smelling, it was me after I got in from my walking!!!!
LISA, that's good that the Dr, agrees with what you thought with Ross' meds-how will the increase help? Sausage balls, hmmm, I had to look that one up on the web, never heard of them. The recipes I saw look quite easy. I would try them using the recipe I posted for EXTRA LIGHT MIX (8-31-00), in place of the bisquick-here's the link:
NANCE, you ask a very interesting question...I do think that some of us do have a fear of losing. For me, personally, I think I did have a fear for most of my life , but no longer do. I think of it more now that I don't have a fear of losing weight, but not losing the weight. I have failed so many times in the past, done it for others instead of for me, now, I'm doing it for me. I guess that's why I want to get to goal so badly, so I can feel that I've completed something that I have tried to achieve my entire life. I know things HAVE changed already in my life, I feel better and I look better, I'm almost able to find clothes off the rack (hard still because I'm short). BUT, I still have issues to conquer, and I guess that's in a part a bit of fear, or maybe uncertainty. I feel like the same person, and I think I think about the same, which I'd like to change a bit of in that, I still see myself as fat-it's what I've been use to my entire life-and this is something I plan on trying to deal with after I've gotten to goal. I still buy 1x size nighties! I still wear size 2x nighties that are old, just not comfortable in something more fitting. Not sure if I answered your question or not, but ****, it's my 2 cents!!!!
KAREN, thanks for posting that info from Prevention. I get the magazine each month and love it. I read that in the mag and thought it was interesting.
CATLOVER, SB says to try and get approx 30% or less of your total calories from fat, 40% from carbs and 30% from protein. If you look at the TIPS AND TOOLS BOARD it will help you figure that out, or if you want, e-mail me with you current weight and I can figure it out for you.
The link to IVILLAGE that CATLOVER posted had an interesting article titled FATTITUDES that I think is worth reading. Here's the link to the article:

Well, since I started this post at around 6am, (it's no 10:30am), I got both kids to school, my 4.5 miles in, which I actually jogged an entire mile-a first for me! Mind you, it was broken down in 5 spurts. Weihed in, down a pound, but still up 1.5 from my lowest, got my shower in, and went to the grocery store-so now, it's time to eat something for breakfast and go about my day:)
I'll post some recipes later.
Have a wonderful day!

Are you going to come visit me today? Do you just want to meet for lunch instead? We could get a "protein-burger" at In-N-Out, or go to Beachside Cafe', or Red Robin for a salad. Let me know!:^:

Was it you I was talking about Kashi cereal? I needed to correct myself....I needed to correct myself, it's Kashi Go-Lean Crunch that has 13 grams of sugar per serving. I think the only safe one is just the regular-unleaded Puffed Kashi. Thank goodness strawberries exsist!
Well....my legs are killing me from my "power-walk" yesterday! I guess stretching would have been a good idea. Don't they say hind-sight is 20-20?

Happy Thursday everyone. I was actually motivated to get on the ol TM this morning....wooohooooo. No records set, but what matters is how good it makes me feel. With Mother's Day almost upon us, what is evryone's plans??? My mother is deceased going on 17 yrs now. I must say though, I am someone that is blessed by having a few women in my life that serves well as surrogate mothers. We will be spending the day at my IL's. My MIL and I have a great relationship, and for that I am so thankful. I am close to my FIL as well. My father is remarried, and there I consider myself blessed there too, because my SM(step mom) quite understands us spending our time with the IL's instead. I will still take time to go by and give her a gift. Also both SS's will be here. The "bride" has proofs from the wedding!!!!!!! I hope all of you will be doing something that makes you happy on YOUR day!!!!
BOB - We all just gotta love your "stats"
I know I always like it when reading these posts, I can get a smile:D, a chuckle, or an occasional gut-buster!!!
Laughter is very good for us.
Karen - Thanks so much for the pep talk. This board makes me realize how helpful it is to be here!!!! Geeeeze, my garden isn't so big, probably by normal standards. But, for me it is because it's my first attempt at "farming", I have maybe 13 tomato plants, 7 bell pepper, 2 watermelon, 5 yel squash, 3 zuch squash.
As far as flower beds, I don't really have big ones. I have one bed with dahlberg daisies & verbena.. they aren't looking so good. I am working on another small area with butterfly bushes. I also have plans for another bed with more butterfly attracting flowers..and right now have a flat of vinca/periwinkle I will put here and there:spin:
Melf - High 5 on those 20lbs!!!!!! Positive thoughts and lots of water will get rid of those 4 lbs.
Sparkle - Give yourself lots of credit for creating your website... and treat yourself with some YOU time!!!
Deb - You do have a good point about rtaveling in RV, but it's more fun to me. We bring the 4- legged child with us. There is SUCH a nice place called Blue Water RV that is just gorgeous. The lots are very private, and there are waterfront sites with individual docks!!!!!
Now that it's 11am already, I better get this body up and going. I haven't even had breakfast yet. I will check in later, with probably some dirt under my nails.

Good Morning all! Got out there & walked my 4 miles this am, in 63 minutes. Had not been walking lately & really missed it. It was nice & cool when I started, aroung 7:45, but let me tell you, it wasn't cool by the time I got back home
SolShine, Sounds like you're pretty discouraged that the scale is not moving & yet determined to get that weight off. Don't give up girl. That scale will HAVE to move sooner or later. Cutting your carbs along with the trainer may well do it for you. I sure hope so. You talked about being all " 'phlegmy and stuffy-headed' when you have milk and that doesn't happen with soy milk". You know, it really got me to thinking about how much of a problem DH has been having lately with his sinus allergies. I have noticed that he is drinking an aweful lot of milk these days. Before we were married, he use to drink soy milk because of his allegies. I will need to address that with him & get him off milk to see if that makes a difference for him. Thanks for mentioning that. :D
Debbie You go girl! Jogging now too. WOW You know, I was doing some jogging too for a while, but noticed I was having more & more trouble bending my right knee. I have since cut out the jogging because I feel that is what caused it. I'll stick to walking. How do you handle that heat in the summer girl??? It's getting HOT out there!
SPARKLESCAMP, Did I miss the last episode of Star Trek Voyager??? Oh Phooie!!! I wanted to see that...oh well, maybe I'll catch the reruns. Hey, enjoyed your web site! I really need to update mine, I just haven't been able to find the time!
BOB, Really had a good  when I read your response to posting measurements. Love the wagon train too  Hang in there BOB. It may be a rough ride at times, but that wagon WILL get you where you need to be. Oh BOB! you are soooooo funny. I just read your stats
Lisa_A_A, You're right...sometimes Mom's do know what's best for their children. Glad to hear that they listened to what you had to say about Ross's meds. You'll do fine with the new regime.
Nancemeister, Strange that you should ask about fears of lossing weight. I confessed this to a friend of mind when I first started SB & vowed that I would not allow myself to fall into the same trap again, but here's my fear. When I have lost weight in the past & almost gotten to the point where I wanted to be I would allow myself to think "Hey, this weight is coming off a little too easily. Is there something wrong? Weight loss can be a sign of cancer so maybe I'd better see if I can gain a couple of lbs just to make sure that the loss is really me doing it & not something dreadful." That was my mind playing tricks with me. I have a better mindset now. I'm healthy, I'm eating right, & I'm exercising so it makes sense that the weight is suppose to come off.
KAREN, Quiet an interesting article. I agree, the thing that we all need to be more careful of is to READ the LABELS! That's where we will learn alot about the products that we are buying.
CATLOVER Thanks for the site you posted. Will go check it out. Looks interesting.
AMSERAPHIM, Mother's Day! well my plans were decided for me by my DON, cause I'm on the schedule to work my usual 12 hrs Sat & SUn, so there will not be any visits from my girls again this year. I will be going to see my Mom today & then again next Tues. But she's understanding about my work too.
Got to go. Got lots to do yet today & it's my last day off for over a week. see ya!!

Hi Everyone:D
Only time for a quick check in. My daughter was confirmed last night in the Catholic Church. We started at 6:30 pm and finished at 9:30 pm. The service was beautiful, the bishop was inspiring, and my hubby who is not Catholic cried and was very moved at the "feeling and magnitude" of the event. We have been so busy this week with getting ready for the event, baseball games and regular issues.
Everything in my house seems to be breaking...dryer, printer for the computer and my son's dreamcast. I'm hoping that since trouble comes in 3s that we won't have any more appliance break. My dog who is 17 is not doing so well either. Hopefully, he will perk back up.
So that is how my week is going. Even under the stress I've been able to keep it together and eat right. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to excercise every day.
I weighed in yesterday and was at 138...up some and still not at the 135 mark where I use to be...oh well...it will come in time.
Glad eveyone is doing well. Debbie I also still see myself as fat and have a hard time buying clothes that fit. I also think I hid behind my fat as an excuse not to be sociable. I also still wear some clothes that are 2X and I am a size 10-12 now. I just don't like anything clinging or fitting well. I became use to baggy and comfortable.
Gotta Run.

Thanks for responding to my question. I just wanted to know if anyone else besides myself has those odd thoughts. It's interesting that the two people that responded are the two people closest to their goal weight, or are already there.
I don't know what I'm anticipating. It should be nothing but good things to look forward to, but yet there is a fear there. I'm acknowledging it, and will be working past it. I don't feel like getting off track at all. I feel 100% confident this WOE is for me and have made it past 3 weeks now, which is a worlds record for me. I guess I'll just deal with my emotions through the different stages, and be happy to know that I have such a great support group of woman to talk with and share these things that most people would be insensitive to.

Hi everyone :)
I managed to get out for a walk this morning. I was determined to go early before I found too many other things to do. So often I end up doing other things and then not having time to walk. I drove to a park and took a walk on the trails in the park. It is a nice wooded area. Distance was less than I would have liked but some of the paths were quite hilly so that should make up for lack of distance. Weight still the same this morning.
Nancemeister - In answer to your question. No I do not worry about losing the weight. I just never could get used to being overweight. I was considered relatively skinny until my late twenties then the weight started piling on. The first time I ever gained any weight was after I had had surgery when I was 28 and was unable to work for a while. I had always been very active before that and was totally surprised when I gained 7 or 8 pounds. I got married soon after and started having kids and thats when the pounds started to pile on. I gained 40 pounds with my first child and had a hard time losing most of it. I did lose quit a bit after my second child and it stayed off for a while then after the third one it started piling on again. There was one time when I did try to diet and didn't lose anything so decided to just accept the way I was. The only trouble was I didn't stay that way. Each year a few more pounds were added on. The last time I made the effort and went down to 190 pounds (I can't remember what I started at) was about ten years ago but unfortunately it came back. This time I am determined not to gain back what I have lost. I don't expect to get down to what I was 30 years ago but if I can lose another 10-20 pounds and keep it off I will be happy. I'm beginning to feel like the "old" me.
Fillise - Congrats on the inches lost. That's just as good as losing the weight.
Amseraphim - Congrats on the one pound loss.
Melf - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you make your mini goal before your holiday. Glad to hear you had a good time at the Nurses' Day celebrations. We had the same thing this week. I actually won a door prize of a $25 gift certificate for a book store. Hope your dh liked his new shorts.
Solshine - I know how frustrating it can be when you are sticking to plan and the weight just won't move. It happens to me all the time. But just be patient, I am sure it will happen even if it takes longer than you would like. I wish you success at the gym. Maybe that will help to get your metabolism going. I think it is a good idea to cut down on the STARCHY carbs. That's what I have been doing the last couple of weeks and it seems to be helping. I've been having the carbs at breakfast time with protein ( usually eggs) and sticking to protein and lots of veggies and salads at other meals. I do snack on crispbread/triscuits occasionally but not as much as before. I snack more on fruit and cheese. Hope your Mom arrived home safely. Has she got the pictures printed yet? I know that feeling when you've just gotta have 'em done quick.
Chris - I am glad to hear that things are going better between you and your roommate. He must be feeling good about it too to suggest a joint birthday celebration. I know you posted the URL for your website but would you mind posting it again. I would love to check it out but can't find it now. Thanks.
Deb - Congrats on the rice . See, you can cook! I too still like to wear my loose nighties - the bigger the better. But for everything else it is great to be able to buy clothes in the regular stores/department.
Lisa - I hope Ross does well on his new medication regimen. I just found a recipe for Sausage Balls for Soup in my old Joy of Cooking (is this what you wanted them for?) Anyway here is the recipe:
1/2 pound raw sausage meat
1 egg white
2 tspn chopped parsley
1/2 tspn fresh basil
1/4 tspn fresh rosemary
3 tbsp toasted bread crumbs (SGWW)
Roll this mixture into 1 inch balls. Drop them into boiling stock. Reduce the heat at once and simmer the soup until the balls are done, about 30 minutes. Good in pea, bean or lentil soup.
Karen - Thanks for posting the info from Prevention magazine. There's some interesting stuff there.
BOB - I loved your stats, also the buggy train.
Have to finish this as I have to get out to watch my grandson play soccer.
If I have forgotten anyone my apologies. Always running out of time these days.
Bye

Nance--I'm like Rosalie. I can remember very clearly being thin. In fact it was not that long ago. Before "the change." So, if I get relatively thin again, I will not wear baggy clothes, and I even try not to do that now because I associate them with "fat clothes." I have much more trouble with being fat than with being thin.

Evening Everyone!
Just finished dinner, Eli cooked, I wasn't going to attempt to screw anything up again:rolleyes:
AMSER, good for you for hopping on the TM! My MD plans, well, we're suppose to go to my Grandmother's house and everyone's to meet there. My Mom wants me to have it at my house, it's bigger, but it's a wreck and I truly don't think I can (or should I say want) to whip it up into shape, but I may just have to. Grandparents aren't very healthly and even though my Aunt is bringing a bunch of stuff, it still may be too much for her there, so I may go ahead and offer my house tomorrow. As for me, I'll be happy to get a card from the kids. I got my Mother a nice big cooking pan and a Boyd's bear that's holding a little blanket that says WE LOVE YOU GRANDMA from the kids to put in her Victorian bedroom-and of course, she gets love:) It's nice you have surrogate Mom's to enjoy the day with:) I've always wanted a RV, and dreamed about roaming the US in one when I'm old-I like small ones like the Rialta-maybe one day. You'll surely have to stop by when you are down this way-maybe you can just park yourself in my driveway on the way back and spend the night:)
MELF, good for you for getting out there-your timing really has gotten better! Honestly, when I run it's in such small spurts of 2/10 of a mile or so that besides feeling like I'm going to pass out, it doesn't bother my knees (yet). What I have noticed is my bone spur is getting bigger and another one may be forming-both on the same food, but neither is bothering me. I won't be increasing any jogging, and as the summer heat gets more intense I probably won't jog at all. I just wanted to see if I could do it! In the summer, I try to go as early as possible but even when it's dark, it's still hot and muggy-I come home drenched with sweat and stinking like you know what-you don't want to get down wind from me!
BEACH, congrats on your daughter's confirmation-I honestly don't know fully what it is even though I've heard about them, but I'm sure it must be a big deal! Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone when it comes to wearing big old clothes-it's what I'm comfortable in. I could NEVER see myself wearing a shirt tucked into a pair of pants with a belt-NEVER! I may have lost weight, but I'm surely NOT without having major flaws like rolls here and there. I also don't buy anything that lays on my fat, if you can see my rolls, I won't buy it-and nothing short sleeve or above the elbow-my arms are absolutely disgusting-saggy and a large hump on both arms-maybe with weight training that will change (the humps, not the sagging), but right now, that's what I deal with-I have to work on one thing at a time, right now, it's just the weight.
NANCE, for me, if I get through the first 3 days of a diet, I know I'm on my way. When I started SB and started seeing results immediately and feeling so good, not feeling deprived, I knew this was going to work. This board has helped me tremendously as well, it's hard going alone-but with everyone's support, it really makes it much easier. You're well on your way-I'm sure people around you are not only going to notice your weight loss, but a difference in attitude! Keep going strong!!!!
ROSALIE, yesterday rice, what's in the forecast for tomorrow? Really, I've been meaing to make a muffin recipe I posted on the board, maybe I'll attempt fate and try to do that sometime this evening. It's hard for me to even look at nighties smaller than XL, but sometimes the big ones do look a bit hysterical on me. Thank goodness Eli doesn't say anything, he's not the type to tell me to go get a sexy negligee, but I'm sure it's not a big turn on to see me in these moo-moo style nighties either-I guess that really means he loves me:love:
Okay gals, I'm outta here for a while, guess I'll go attempt to make those muffins. If you see smoke in your area, it's probably from my house!!!!!

BOB, What is your WRIST measurement? LOL
Lisa, I don’t think the measurements were a BAD idea, but one thing to keep in mind is that like weight, measurements are not always accurate. One, fat does tend to “redistribute” itself so that your pants can feel looser when you haven’t lost weight. Or clothes can get looser with wear (especially cotton). As for the measuring tape, I am pretty good about manipulating the tape measure (unconsciously of course) too!
Your sunny attitude in the face of your son’s challenge is quite encouraging. All those pills make my thyroid pill I have to take in the morning seem like nothing at all!
GatorGal, well staying the same is pretty good too! I haven’t weighed (in half an hour???) but I feel like I’m staying pretty much the same, trying not to get torked about it. At least I can still fit into my tiniest pants today (shallow breaths).
Nancy, you said, “I wanted to ask a question. Does anyone ever have a fear of loosing weight? Is there something comforting about having all this protection around you? Do you feel like if you loose weight, things might change in your life?....and you don't necessarily know if it is for the better?”
I was hunting and hunting last night because I KNOW there was a long post I once wrote (on the other board) on this very subject, which is a BIG issue with me, as I have never been thinner than I am now. But I can’t seem to find anything. So when I have time I’ll write something up.
Karen, thanks for the helpful information from Prevention Magazine. Although I know most of that stuff, as all of us do if we know about Sugar Busters, it was still a shock to read it. The information was presented quite clearly. I’m going to add that link to my site. BTW when posting online information, it’s helpful to provide the link, I hunted for it:
Deb, that’s great that you’ve added a little jogging to your routine! I know good sports bras for ah, BLESSED females are hard to find, but I think a sports bra might solve your problems (the kind that squishes your boobs into a nice, compact “uniboob.”) A little jogging might be just the thing to kick your metabolism into high gear!
I briefly checked out the “Fattitudes” article and while I certainly agree, I’m finding out from the reading that I’m doing that excess sugar really screws up the body’s chemistry and sets up an uncontrollable craving for MORE sugar. So their is a physical and mental aspect to being fat, which can also be described as:
What we eat
Why we eat
(How we eat and when we eat are part of the equation too, but not as important. There goes my journalism background coming out again.)
I’m wondering how much of my mental and emotional problems growing up could have been prevented with proper nutrition. I already (after 1 ½ months without sugar) feel my low-grade, underlying, constant depression; wild mood swings and extremely emotional behavior getting better. Not totally gone but drastically better.
This is why I have a big conflict in my head about OA right now. Yes, the 12 step program has helped me greatly. But I have real problems at this point with saying over and over again, “I am a compulsive overeater.” I feel like it might be making the problem worse to say, “I am powerless over food.” Because the truth is, I’m not powerless. I’m not a compulsive overeater. As long as I stay away from the foods that throw my chemistry out of whack, I actually have a pretty good handle on what I’m doing. Yes, I’m genetically predisposed to sugar addiction, but I’m not special because I can’t handle sugar. Nobody should be able to eat large amount of sugar all the time. They may not get fat like I did, but it catches up with them eventually.
So I think I will be giving up my responsibilities in OA but keeping in touch with the network of people that I have met over the past year. There is a bi-monthly Intergroup meeting Saturday so wish me luck.
Well, that was a bit of a tangent!
Mary, well I ended up missing the last episode of Voyager too because Martin didn’t go to class and I didn’t want to be rude and leave early! How unlike me!!!!
Anna, wow it’s amazing to hear you and Debbie say that you still think of yourselves as fat when you seem (from your weight and height) to be so thin to me, who still has 27 pounds to go. Sometimes I forget how far I’ve come too, although I’m ALLERGIC to baggy clothes...I always feel like I’m wearing a tent...again. I have to make an effort not to buy them too tight though, certainly that looks worse.
Marie, thanks hon. There are a lot of things that I can’t control about other people (although being a control freak I would like to) but the important thing I learned from my relationship with my roommate is that I can control my behavior and attitude, and that alone makes a BIG difference. It’s important to me that we get along because (we have a freaking lease and) I’ve “failed” with relationships and friendships so many times in the past. So I’m not letting it go down the toilet so easily.
The link to my site is: http://www.shapeshakers.com and is also in my signature now in every post. I’m planning to do daily updates and (after three days) this morning I finally did my updates. It took about 30 minutes so I have to streamline that process. But I found a cool site about an Australian chick who is publicly losing weight on TV! It’s really cool so check out that link on the main page of my site.
****
Well, cool little things about today:
I found a cheap thermal mug ($5.99) yesterday that has a cool looking brushed steel exterior, and keeps things hot for about three hours, really handy for my green tea as I don’t like to drink it cold and normally it cools off in a few minutes.
I finally, for the first time in my LIFE, made a successful soft-boiled egg (bring eggs to a boil, turn to low for 6 minutes.) I’m not sure why this was so difficult for me.
I figured out a vexing problem with our database that has been sending my blood pressure through the roof for two months now.
****
Still haven’t gone to the gym yet...starting to get out of the habit this being the fourth day. I was going at lunch but my coworker is leaving for Vegas so I can’t. Need more sleep. :(
Hugs,
Chris

Good evening to all!
Things here are going well, but are about to get crazy. I am suppose to teach a critical care nursing course next friday afternoon, focusing on the GI tract, for four hours. Well, because of lack of participartion we thought the class was goign to get cancelled. Only four RNs signed up. Well even with the budget crisis my hospital is in, they decided that we are going to have the class anyway. That is a lot of preparation for four people. I have to take this as an honor because I am and LPN and will be teaching RN's but I have be certified for 7 years now and working in Endoscopy for 12. I relly do love my job.
Nance- about the fear------yes I have a fear. And this is something that I have even talked a long time about with a counselor. I let my fear of people loving me and leaving me turn me into a very fat and unhappy person. THis is something I have worked hard to overcome and have realized that I really have two seperate problems.
I am deal with both. I am much happeir with myself and I am willing to risk losing some one I love rather than having no one to love. Being alone is very loney. And I am working on the weight. I have lost 58 pounds and have another 120 to go. This is a long road, but I will succeed! So that is my outlook. and thanks for asking cause sometimes it is nice to be explaining this to others rather than reinforcing it mentally all the time.
Deb-- I can't believe that you are jogging now. THe weather down here would kill me, but I am not one to live down a challenge. When I was on the TM today, I tried to jogging by increasing the speed until I thought it was going to flip me off the into the wall. BUt I decided that I had better wait until I get rid of somemore extra baggage. There were some very unnatural noises coming from where things were flapping together. (only here could I describe something like this)
Well I hope that everyone has a get Friday. :)

LMAO! You don't have to describe it we know only too well for ourselves! ;)
My secret formula:
good sports bra + bike shorts (long enough to cover flapping thighs) + baggy t shirt to cover the flab in motion = relative comfort
Now, I would like to vent for a mo:
I have a situation which is causing me a bit of anxiety. We have been looking for a new admin person and today the bosses hired one. She is older, VERY aggressive and strong willed personality type. To give you an idea, she called and ASKED for a second interview. Well, for that and other reasons I'm kinda scared of her (you will never hear Chris admit stuff like that in the future). But after she was definitely hired, I was trying to see the good in the situation and I'm thinking, lately, I mean in the past 2 months, I've had a hard time concentrating at work and putting in the stellar performance I once came through with (there are a lot of reasons for this). I'm getting stuff done, but don't feel like I'm doing my best but I can't seem to break through the barrier even though I want to. So maybe having somebody else strong willed and competitive in the office may not be so bad. It might be what I need to shake me out of this weird thing I've gotten into. (Despite the friendly family environment, any small office is highly competitive as the pecking order is rather narrow in scope.)
Love,
Chris

OK, I know, it has been over a week since I posted. I have had such a great 2 weeks treking back and forth to the beach. Last night I went to have the fiml developed. I promise to scan the pics and share the funny ones. I will be able to scan them at work on Monday, so look for them next week. I still have a partially finished roll so those could take a while before I take them to be developed.
It was absolutely wonderful to be able to wear my swimsuit, then take off my shorts and/or t-shirt when I got down to the sand. Last year my size much larger swimsuit was too tight, this year my new suit that was 3 sizes smaller was perfect! What a relief.
I have also been doing a little pants shopping, needing 10's and 12's. I'm very excited about this! Don't mean for this to be ALL about me.
BOB[/b} Congrats on your continued smoke-free lifestyle! THanks for keeping my air cleaner! Miss chatting with you!
[b]CHRIS Just want to say HEY!!!
MELF Hope your Mom continues to do well in her new home.
LISA_A_A WHere in 'Bama are you? Fillise and I are going to get together for lunch (an SB legal one of course!) or something along those lines the Friday before Memorial Day in Columbus, GA. Are you anywhere near there? It would be great if you could also join us!
ANYONE ELSE NEAR COLUMBUS, GA?
SOL You and I are the COLBY fans aren't we. I think he is HOT HOT HOT!!! I wanted him to win sooooo bad. Thought he played the game better than Tina.
QUILTER Whassssup?
DEB Hey chickie!
Well, gotta run because a man is coming to give is an estimate on new HVAC. Will check back later.
Oh yeah, I was up 1.5 this week. Too much alcohol and not enough water! Trying to get to 150 by Memorial Day, promise to be a good girl this week!
More beach stories later!
Have a happy Friday!
Peace,

LOTS of Great posts lately!!
KAREN - Thanks for the articles. I sent the 25 things home for Vince to read and to my "healthy buddy" at work.
DEBBIE - I didn't forget about the Diet Rite Cola - here's the ingredients: carbonated water, caramel color, gum acacia, phosphoric acid, potassium citrate, nautral flavor, sucralose (Splenda brand), citric acid, potassium benzoate and acesulfame potassium (Sunett brand). The can claims: "no aspartame, no sodium, no caffeine, no calories". Just plain ole non-nutritious soda! The taste is very similar to every other diet soda.
JOGGING? You go girl!!! That's awesome!!! A little bit at a time is what it takes and how to get started doing that -- way back when - when I was trying to jog that's exactly what Vince suggested I do - walk and every once in a while jog for a bit and then go back to walking - even if that's all you ever do it's a little boost and breaks up the monotony of just walking. It may be exactly what you're body needs to get moving down the scale again.
CATLOVER - Thanks for the link! Glad you're enjoying your golf - that's great exercise for those arms and, if you're walking the 18 holes, well, that's A LOT of walking!
BOB - You crack me up!! Thanks for always keeping things so light.
NANCEMEISTER - I've thought about the weight/fear thing and I don't think that's an issue with me. I started trying to lose as soon as the pounds started piling up (5 years ago) and now, I'm almost convinced that that is when my insulin, PCOS problem kicked into high gear and that I was fighting these things and genetics with the wrong diets which is why I wasn't seeing results. Since my Endocrinologist "prescribed" SB for my diet I was convinced that this was going to be "it" for me to get back down to where I was before all this started. I guess that's why I'm so frustrated with having been pretty darn faithful to this WOE and exercising for 2 months now and still at the same weight. Yes, I cheated VERY LITTLE - but I cheated on our vacation - but that was only 1 week out of 10 weeks on this diet with no loss. Just an FYI - all of us are busy, we have "senior moments" and forget things so you won't always get a personal response or a bunch of answers to your questions or posts - it's nothing personal, everyone reads them - and thinks about each other and the issues/questions/etc. brought up, but you are setting yourself up for disappointment and/or aggravation if you set that expectation of us.
AMSERAPHIM - Wow! What a nice garden it sounds like you have. I'm jealous!! I have a few herbs and one tomato plant. If these survive maybe next year I'll be more adventurous and pick out a spot where I can plant my favorites. There's really nothing like fresh, homegrown tomatoes. I was raised with those and the store bought kinds are just not the same - unless you get the ones that are $3/lb.
MELF - thanks for the encouragement. I am VERY discouraged, but I'm going to make these changes and believe to figure out what the deal is. I have given away most of my "skinny" clothes, but I've held onto my favorite skirt that I wore before the weight started piling on and I'm determined to get my butt into that thing one day!
MARIE - Mom and Dad got back yesterday and just said they were tired. I'm SURE that when Mom gets back to work she'll be sending some of her favorite scanned pictures. I'll get the lowdown on everywhere they've been and how much fun they had. E-mail is great, 'cause if we only had snail mail anymore I'd probably be waiting until we got together at Christmas to see and hear about it. :) Those hills DO count!! I know for me - I double my effort on those big ones AND, my triceps get a work-out on those hills from pumping my arms to get up the hill - especially when rollerblading (Chris can relate to that, I'm sure!).
CHRIS - I'm with you on ditching the baggy clothes. I DO like my stretch pants and big t-shirts, but when it comes to my shorts and jeans I'm SOOOOO looking forward to tucking my shirts in. I like for my clothes to fit nicely, not too tight, not too baggy - but until I get back down to 150 I'm in Baggy City. I didn't know they have you making such negative confessions at OA -- I agree -- you are not forever a compulsive overeater and to constantly confess that it not healthy. You're much healthier to confess - "I had a problem with food and I'm overcoming it and I'm in control." That's where you are!! Those are some mighty keen observations you've made on how you relate to others -- we can't put them in our little boxes, because people are individuals, and that's what adds spice to life (even spices we don't always like :D ) I've found that when I'm concentrating more on how I can help others or learn from others (even if it's just their life experiences and/or opinions) that I'm not so focused on myself, but it also helps put my issues in perspective. That's why this site is so great! We learn so much about each other and feel better knowing we're human, everyone has their own "issues" to deal with, and that, sometimes, we wouldn't trade our issues with anyone for the world.
LAMAP - LOL!!! I've stopped or slowed on the TM at those very same noises, myself!! Thankfully there was no one around when that happened!! I'll stick to walking on the TM for now.
RHONDA - Good to hear from you! We are quite chatty, aren't we? I was going to just do a general post, but had so much I wanted to say because everyone is sooo kind and all the posts are so good! So here I sit starting work late.
GATORGAL - Monday is my 1st appointment at Fitness Coach. I'll let you know how it goes. Can't remember if I posted this or not, but Vince went the other day to check it out (I want his approval on the program) and they gave him a work-out. He liked Jim and the place and thinks it will be good for me - soooooo, we'll see!
FROG - You're back!!! We've all missed you!!! Glad to hear you've had a blast at the beach!! It's way more fun when you are trying too hard to cover up things. :) I heard a clip about Colby's date for the Country Music Awards, but missed who it was --- will have to do some snooping!
Better run --- Have a great FRIDAY and an AWESOME week-end, Everyone!!!

Good Friday Morning Everyone!
Can you believe it's Friday again! I'm sure those of you who work M-F are happy! Time just keeps flying by so quickly:eek:
Didn't feel like walking today, have a slight butt ache, but I pushed myself and went 2 1/2 miles. Once I was out I wish I could of gone more, but I didn't have enough time, had to come back and get Lauren off to school.
I made the WW and Walnut muffins last night. I went back to the recipe and posted additional notes. They were not sweet at all, so I would increase the amount of agave, or other sweetener-being they only called for 1tbl of honey originally, how in the world did I think they'd come out sweet. Not bad with some fruit jam on them, or butter if you like, but definitely would increase the amount of sweetener to a 1/4 cup and maybe a tad more milk if you see the need, the batter was thick-but hey, they were edible!!! And, I didn't burn them!!!!
I am headed up to see Sharon today just to do something different-not sure where we will end up. She's staying in a house for the month that's a corporate rental for a company her friend works for up there.
SPARKLE, I never put down where anyone finds their strength. What I may find totally off the wall and ridiculous, someone else may find the answers they are looking for. BUT, I have to be honest and admit that I think you will do just fine without associating with OA. I have only been to 1 meeting in my life, probably about 20 years ago, and I didn't like it at all (hence, the one meeting), I didn't feel like what they were saying pertained to me, but they wanted me to think it did. I guess it does help for some, but I do believe you are fine without the association to that organization. I think you finally hit it on the head, with proper nutrition and not having all this garbage in your system, you'd of been different long ago. If you read Gary Null's latest book, it's interesting what he found happened to mental patients when they were no longer allowed the garbage foods, like candy, cakes and soda-many got better! Anyhow, whatever your final decision happens to be, and whatever does help, we are always behind you 100%.
LAMAP, it surprises me sometimes when I get out and exercise in the summer time. In a way, it shows me just how far I have come and how much I am dedicated to get out there and walk-it's for me, no one else. Trust me, I can totally relate to slapping fat - I had to have my tummy tucked about 5 years ago it was so bad. I really need more tucked, but not sure how far I'm willing to go with having thinks nipped and tucked.
RHROO, good luck with the scale today! Hope it's kinder to you than it's been for me lately. Hmm, what's next, not sure really. Will give the weights a try, just have to learn how to do it correctly. I'm not one for videos, will have to reply on the web or old mags. Don't I wish it was only that 1.5, that's way old news, it's now 3lbs to go!
FROG, glad to see you back and to hear you had a great time-a real bathing beauty I'm sure we'll see in those pics-can't wait for you to share them. Kudo's on being able to wear a suit sizes smaller and to be able where it without overlays!
SOL, I'd say the DR Cola is fine, but in moderation. Just remember, Splenda does have MALTODEXTRIN and it seems in small amounts it's okay, but in excess, you may have problems, so treat it as a treat, not as you would, say, water:)
Okay gals, I'm outta here, time to get dressed and get on the road. I'll check in with you all this evening sometime.
Toodles

One of the women in my office today, came up and complemented me on taking a healthy path in weight loss, unlike others in my office who are dieting in a less healthy manner. She commented though that it was fortunate that I didn't have much to lose. I wrote to her and I want to share this letter with all of you.
"30lbs. isn't a lot to some people, for me it was a lot. If you didn't know during my pregnancies I was well over 200 lbs., my highest weight was 240. That's almost 90 lbs more than my goal. (Please don't say well you were pregnant, as there is no excuse for being more than 25-30lbs over your normal weight.) My Mom still has pictures, it was awfully hard for me to get around, I had medical complications, when it was over I had settled at 180lbs. forever. When I started in Fiscal Services I was in a size 18, (June 1999) somewhere between 190 and 200 and feeling lousy. It took me a year to get down to 180. I really settled that I was 30 and that's how it was going to be. My body still rejected what I was putting into it and I was not taking care of my health. I was maintaining 180, my stomach was messed up (still is, but getting better), I was tired all the time and thought the Starbucks made it better, I also was having major mood swings and to top it off I had low self-esteem and I didn't like myself.
Now I feel healthier, stronger, more in control. I like who I have become and have goals to achieve who I want to be (I don't mean work wise, I mean as a person). Losing weight was a way for me to come out of my shell so to speak, I'm not fearful anymore and know that if I put my mind to something, I can do it. BUT, it takes support, and in the beginning I didn't have that. After my surgery, Nancy and I became partners in a healthier life style, having a buddy is making the difference for me. Now when I waiver or test the waters of sugar, I have some one to pull me back on board, slap me around, and understand.
Again, thanks for caring so much to notice. This is the way of life I have chosen, not the easiest maybe, but the healthiest for me."
Chris: I'm excited to see your website, I bookmarked it the last time you gave us a link, so hope to visit it this weekend when I have time to sit down and enjoy it.
Lisa: Your family continues to be in my prayers. If I understood correctly, Ross' results were good, this must be such a relief.
Rosalie: Congratulations on hitting the 200 mark, on to the 190's!
Melf: I'm sorry to hear about the young friend you lost. On a happier note good to hear abot the 1lb loss. Your Nurses Breakfast sounded like a lot of fun! What a kick to get boxers, I bet your husband was suprised. LOL!
Debbie: I hope to be able to join a chat in the future, I'm glad to know that it's not AOL only. Unfortunatley, that is when I'm getting dinner and taking care of my little ones, but maybe over the summer when we eat a little earlier in the day, I can jump in. As for the Carbolite bar, I thought I was eating on SB as it was made with splenda and cocoa? Oh well, it doesn't matter now, as my stomach problem flarred up because of the chocolate, which I was told not to have. Way to go for Eli on his success! And as for gas prices...Juan just filled my tank, around 18 gallons = $38.00!
Fillise: Inches are just as good as pounds in my book! Are we suppose to add the total number of inches lost in each area together?
RodeoMom: Glad you are still on plan, a 13lb loss over 6 weeks is awesome! Keep it coming off, your doing great!
FrogLove: How fun to go to the beach in a swimsuit and no coverup- I'm awaiting my 1st swimsuit in 5 years, it's coming snail mail, I'll let you know if it fits.
Iamap: Glad your back, missed you. I think you should look at teaching RN's an honor, it means you are "One smart, well experienced Cookie!" (Sorry about the food inuendo)
What's happened to: StarChaser, CathyCathy, Annette2, Barbee, CatsRule, Cheri45, Cynsea, MargaretA, Overcome, GloryBI, Rapture, Sasahm, Viv...I think I saw at least one post from everyone else in the past week or so.
Amseraphim: 11lb loss is somthing to be proud of. Sure weight comes off slowly and sometimes it stays the same for periods of time, but just remember how you felt 11lbs ago, don't you feel better now. A friend of mine told me that for every 10 lbs you lose you can go down one size in clothing, just think, you use to HAVE to wear a larger size than you do now. Sometimes when I stall, I keep taking my measurements, it never failed that I saw the inches come off when the weight wasn't. Keep positive, go out and do something to reward yourself, doesn't have to be a big thing, a $12 manicure, go to a Walmart and pick up a cute shirt or pair of pants, or do something you've been wanting to for awhile. I do have a question for you, what does DH stand for? I had always thought it was someone's initials. Your garden sounds like so much fun! I want to try to grow veggies someday in my back yard, our summers are so hot though, that very little grows.
GatorGal: I dream of DSL. Nance has it down the street at the office, but it hasn't made it's way down to my neighboorhood, we can't wait! I can stop getting kicked off the net and get through to my husband when he spends all afternoon surfing the net. Your new computer sounds like fun!
Solshine: I think you are really fortunate to have a personal trainer to get you on track. One of my best friends was coming over once a week to keep me on track, whew what a workout he would give me, but since my surgery I haven't gotten back in the groove. I need to do it and stop finding excuses not too.
BOB: Looks you are right on target with your stats! Ok, I'm going to ask as I don't know Southern tradition, what's the deal with white clothes and shoes? I'm really curious, not that I own any white shoes, but curious any how. About the book you are reading, sure sounds interesting, I look forward to your excerpts. I'm still thinking about you and your smoking cessation, are foods starting to taste different yet? This is one of the first things I noticed when I quit. Also, awhile ago there was a thread that had everyone's AIM names and I put them all in my system, but didn't write down who was who. When I went back to do this, the names were gone. If I sent you my list, could you please help me identify the people?
Rhroo: Could you please share your recipe for Baked Sweet Potato french fries, they sound great.
Aces: Welcome to the group! I have a generalized menu of what I try to eat on a day to day basis. Email me ldblond@hotmail.com if you would like me to send it to you.
Karen: Thanks for all the green tea information. I'm drinking the decaf vs. don't know if has the same effects on my body, but it's a nice change from water once in awhile.
CatLover: Looking forward to trying the tools you discovered at IVillage.com
Beachfan37: I rejoice in the news of your daughter's Confirmation! When I was confirmed 7 years ago, it was a very moving experience for me. Hope the rollercoaster ride going on in your life, eases up a little.
Nance: Think of your weightloss as evolution. My daughter told me the other day that catapillers evolve into butterflies. You are evolving not only physically, but emotionally, mentally, and spirtually. You've got a head start though, as you are such a beautiful person on the inside, I think the butterfly in you has already started to come out!
I hope that all of you have a Wonderful Mother's Day.

GOOD FRIDAY MORNING YALL !! Another hot and humid day in my part of Texas.
BTW where do you guys get all your gif's,jpgs that are included in the messages. Ive searched a couple free
sites but cant find any as cute as yall's.
I will be awol on Sunday - Tuesday. My DH and I are driving my mom
to Many Louisiana to meet my sister who will take her back to Hodge for a week or so. While we are there
we are going to play golf at Cypress Bend. It will be nice to get out of town if only for a day or so.
It will also be good for my mom to be around her grandkids. Since my dad passed away in October she
has been dealing with hospital insurance, her own medical problems, etc , and the break will do her good. She doesnt have any friends and never really had a social life. It was raising kids, working, and keeping
house. I know some of the ladies from her Church have invited her to places but she wont go. Ive tried
to tell her it would be good for her to get involved in some things that she doesnt need to just stay in
the house. she only goes out the get her hair fixed, grocery shopping, or drs. appts. Anybody have any
ideas?
Enough about me.
Sparkle liked your home page. Very informative and well done. I hope to have one up and running some
day. Im not PC literate. I worked for many years as a Sr. Progammer Analyst on a mainframe. My DH has to do all the tech stuff to this pc. I just get on it to surf and communicate with yall and relatives.
BOB you crack me up. I like your attitude and your sense of humor. If you cant laugh at yourself who or what
can you laugh at. Im slowly learning to laugh at myself. I get so frustrated at my inability to stick with something once I start. So far Ive stuck with this woe and will someday reach goal. Im in no hurry I know that the pounds will come off eventually and as long as I feel better I know Im doing something good for my body and my self esteem. So can I hitch my butt to your wagon for as long as it takes. I promise not to load it down to much.
Deb as usual you've been a big help. Starting today Im writing down everything I eat and keep a log for a week to see if that helps with my food input and weight loss.
Well guess I better go. I have to go get to nails repaired then back home for some weight toning and tmilling.
Have a happy mothers day to those who are moms, stepmoms, adopted moms, etc.
Talk to yall when I get back..

Did your Doctor put you on any Hormone replacement therapy after "the change". I know in some women they experience a 5-10 weight gain. It's the same with any type of hormone, including birth control pills. If so what are you taking?
Debbie
I understand what you mean about wanting to get to your goal. One of my sisters was sharing that she enjoys the journey, but she especially appreciates getting things done. You will get there! You will see 129! What is your heigth?
Melf
I'm glad to hear you are doing better with your mind set.
I think most of us struggle with putting ourselves first, and taking care of our bodies. Sounds like you are on the road of success!
Rosalie
Thank you for sharing with me about your weight loss.
I'm learning it's probably just as much an emotional change as it is a physical change.
Sparklescamp
I look forward to hearing your story!
Lamap
Sounds like you are pretty busy at work. That's nice that
you were celebrated. Thank you for sharing with me. It's nice to know there are people who we can talk with about the journey...the good, the bad, and the ugly! But mostly the good, and the change in our self-esteem!
Rhroo
Size 6!!!!!! HOLY SMOKES!!!! WOW!!!! DOUBLE WOW!!!!
You go girl! I haven't been that size since 7th grade! ha ha ha. Hope you will continue to support those of us who need mentors like yourself!

Have you been back to your endocrinologist since you started SB? I'm interested in what he might say about your weight being stationary. Are you drinking your 64 ounces of water daily? I know I have a hard time chugging that much down, but I'm working on it. I know when I do drink more water, the weight comes off easier. I realize that not everyone can respond to my questions, and I'm greatful when they have the time and can. Sometimes it's just as good to get people thinking about different things, sharing, etc. I thankful to have such a wonderful group of woman to talk with! :)

Do you live near Gatorgal? I think there is only one other SB besides Lara in Ca, and she lives in San Jose, which is in No. Cal. I think I need to get a map of the US and those little push-pins to keep track of where everyone is! Did you say you are from Tenn? How did you get to Florida?O.K......I know, I'm at my limit for question-asking:rolleyes:
Well, I need to get ready for the day! It's payday today, so I think I will treat myself and buy the SB Cookbook.
We had the enchiladas recipe that was posted and it was delicious! I'm sorry I can't remember who posted it, off the top of my head!
I'll check in with you FANSTASTIC woman later!!!
Thanks for all your support and just plain ol' being there!:D

Afternoon:wave:
Plans got changed and I ended up staying home. Decided there really wasn't a need to travel up to Broward today and that it was more important to get the house cleaned. Really have been working on the kitchen and just have a bit left before I wash the tile floor. I really hate cleaning, by the time I turn around, it's a mess again and I get so frustrated that it makes me hate cleaning that much more!
I figured out something not only important, but interesting. When I figure how many calories I burn walking each week, and how many calories less I eat than I would to maintain my current weight, I see where it will take me about 11 days to lose 1lb-that's considering no other hormonal factors come into place, but with factors, at this point, I'll be lucky to be able to lose 2-2.5lbs a month. I have to realize as I get close to the goal I've set that I'm not going to drop the average of 5lbs a month like I was months ago.
Last night I made my own chart on graph paper and it's quite interesting, I wish I had a scanner so you could all see it. anyhow-I began it from Oct. of last year. On Oct.1 I was 158, Oct 31 I was 153.5. Last month, I started the month at 133 and ended it at 131.5, just lost 1 1/2lbs last month. This month I started back at the same weight I started in March, 133, so who knows what this month may bring at the end of it. From the looks of it, I'll be lucky if I get to goal at the end of the month, looks more like June. Just thought I'd share that little bit of info:)
LDBOND, That's a lot of money for just 18 gallons of gas-but were not far behind you. That's a nice letter you sent to that lady:) You asked what's happened to some of the gals on the board, a few that you mentioned are still with us, lurking more than posting (you all know who you are!) while others, like Annette have decided to do something else. I don't know where Glory is, she hasn't answered my e-mail and it's sorta unlike her not to at least respond. I try to contact people who are MIA for a while. Anyone who has posted their BIO on the latest BIO BOARD is on my mailing list, (at least those who had at least ventured onto the board at least once or twice). Unfortunately, I can't go running after everyone. I use to, but I found that not only do I not have the time to keep up with everyone's comings and goings. Everyone knows that no matter what, they are welcome here at any time:)
CAT, hope you have a wonderful time away and a great Mother's Day with your Mom. I would tell you the best one to ask about gifs would be BOB, she has the best ones! I look in google for sites, but haven't found much that I'd think were worth passing on. Good for you on keeping the log, it will definitely help! There are some good sites you can utilize to help you look up foods-check out the TIPS & TOOLS BOARD for the links.
NANCE, I'm 5 feet 1 1/2" tall-that 1/2 inch means a lot when you're short!
I'll check in later- back to the kitchen! Hope all who celebrate, have a Happy Mother's Day this Sunday.

What is Agave Nectar? I see it in many of your recipes here but I have never seen it in any food store :?: I did a search of your forum on the word but all I got was a bunch of recipes calling for it. Would someone please tell me what it is and where you all find it?
Thanks

Happy Friday!
We had storms here last night so I didn't even boot up the 'puter. Tired of rain, seems like one nice day, two gray days.
ThatGirl - agave nectar comes from a type of cactus (I see it is used in Tequiza Beer and, I think, tequilla). It kind of looks like honey, but is thinner. It is used as a substitute for sugar on SB as it doesn't have the high glycemic number that sugar has. I have found it at a local food coop that specializes in natural foods. I believe Whole Food stores may carry it, also.
Deb - When I was at the food coop yesterday, I noticed a brand of tea called Tazo. Since you mention the Tazo Orange Tea, I decided to try it. It is quite interesting. I made it into iced tea. Really a unique flavor - I did add some agave to it. Could this be the same thing that you have at Starbucks?
Solshine - This may be redundant, but have you had your thyroid checked? It was probably part of your medical workup for the PCOS, but just in case it wasn't done, you might want to talk to the doctor about it. Like PCOS, doctors aren't always well versed on thyroid implications. (I'm not in the medical field, but my husband has thyroid problems, so I have read some info regarding it and it seems like it is often overlooked as a reason.)
Lots of thought-provoking discussions on the forum. I like to read other views on weight loss journeys. I often have a "light bulb" (as Oprah would say) moment when I'm reading through the posts. Sorry I don't respond to each of you--I'm just not finding enough time these days to sit and type more than I already am. Wish I was retired! There was a little ditty going around about "Wish I was a bear" 'cause you're supposed to put on weight for the winter, you get to hibernate in the winter, your spouse expects you to have hair on your legs, and the mama bears are expected to swat the kids when they misbehave! I can relate to that wish!
Have a wonderful Mother's Day on Sunday. Kids or not, all of you deserve a special day!

Rhoo--I like baseball when I want to take a nap. LOL
Nance--Nope--No HRT. My choice. I still have all my parts and there was in increased risk for cancer on HRT. I do take Fosamax for bone strength. My theory has always been to try to ignore any “female stuff” like PMS, Hot flashes, etc. It helped, but I still had some trouble with hot flashes, esp. at night. I’m past all that now, except occasionally I’m still not sure if it is me, or if the room is really warm. Usually it is the room.
BOB lives in a town on the west coast of FL, right on the Gulf of Mexico. SolShine lives in my town, and actually, before her building became the victim of a sink hole, worked about 7 minutes from my house. We live in the center of the state, in the Orlando area. Disney World is about 45 minutes south of my house.
ThatGirl--Agave Nectar is a sweetener made from agave cactus juice that is OK on SB because it does not cause an abnormal rise in blood sugar like cane sugar does. You can find it at some health food stores. Might be able to buy it off the web.

I just got home from out "card day" and thats where the scale is and i ran to it! LOL can u say addicted! I was happy with that stupid number i am back to 140.0 yeah!! I really wanted 139 but i really don't deserve it! Next week for sure. Today i did awsome there (fridays have been bad!) I had a wendys taco salad -no chips! no dressing - and thats it! just one little picky taste of some "cookies" my sister in law feels like she has to bring everyweek! Anyway this will be a good week for me i am determined. I didn't get to work out -again i was soooo tired. Tomorrow is our last over time day and things will be back to "normal" next week!
Gator -baseball is not boring!! LOL i like all sports -no golf, tennis, or race cars -sorry i find those are good for naps.
Deb- sounds like you'll be there in no time! LOL right huh?! I feel like i should be cutting down my calories to lose the last 5 lbs but i don't wanna!!!!
Nance- thanks for the wooo hooo! I have to blame the excersise for that number! I also will still be around when i get to goal because this is forever for me -no going back! I have recieved alot of support for the WW chat too i have made some friends in there the last year and they helped me alot!! SOOO i am here for ya!!!!
catlover- Have a great week end. I hope you can get mom motivated to get back out more. I have no idea how. You sound like your going to have a good time.
ldblond- boy do i agree with your whole post! No matter how much anyone has to lose it is still hard. I have a best friend who is losing too (she is down 86 lbs) we email each other and walk together sometimes it really has helped both of us ( http://community-2.webtv.net/PERRFAM/Iamwomanhearmeroar ) thats her web page with pics of both of us if you didnt see it yet. As far as the Sweet potato all i did was cut up two potatos with the skin, in strips or you can do circles then brushed them with olive oil sprinkled some salt all over them baked at 350 they cook in less than 45 minutes. Keep it up girl! I bet 150 feels better than 180!! you rock girl! Gas here is 1.71 for regular.
Frog- WOW you sound like you had a great time! i want to know if there are pics in that bathing suit? Did u see your sister? what did she say about the bod? 150 will be nothing now that the vacation is out of the way! 10's and 12's wooooo hoooooo!!!

Couple of questions, because I'm a newbie and I can ask!
What does "dh" mean-I'm assuming "dear husband" or "darling husband"?
How do you get a cute little picture by your name? I have a clip art cd. I might be able to do this!
If I send you pictures of me, do you have a scanner, and if so, are you able to get them connected to my bio if anyone is interested in seeing the "before" Nancy pictures? If you don't want to give out your home address, I completely understand, so don't feel funny.
If that's the case, I can find someone with a scanner and do an attachment.
Thanks,
Nancy :)

Hi SB buddies :D Just a QUICK post for now. I want to reply back to the posts, but just one in particular I couldn't resist right now.....
Lara, I thought it was cute when you asked what DH means:lol: It's an abbreviation for Dear Husband, IL means In Law(MIL- mother-in-law, FIL - father-in-law).
Your pep talk had alot of good points, and I always appreciate it when any of you remind me about what the over-all results will be!!!!! BUT, I gotta correct one thing - sorry for being vain, here - I have lost 15lbs so far. I was 140lb when I started this WOE. And with everyone's continued motivation, I will really work at the last 10lbs. I am so glad for you to have people around you that pay you the compliments that you so deserve. That sounds like a great way to start Mother's Day weekend, don't you think:D?????
Gotta get in the shower... We are going to Musashi's tonight with our best friends to celebrate their son's 17th bday:spin: Oh, yes their son will be there too,
Check back later, gators.

Hi just checking in. Thanks for the feedback on OA, there is a meeting tomorrow and I'm very nervous about it.
Well I went back to the gym today! Do you know I was actually AFRAID to get back on the treadmill? What is up with that? (This is the first time this week I've exercised.) Well I forgot to prehydrate (too late once I get on the treadmill...get horrible side pains from the cold water) and ate eggs for breakfast beforehand, so I had this idea that I couldn't do very well. But really it was just my attitude. Bad attitude aside, I did it, putting in a reasonable though not respectable 34:37 for 3 miles.
I feel like I've been letting things slip. I HAVE been letting things slip. My runs, my abs, my food (I haven't deviated from my plan but haven't been real sharp either) my housecleaning and WORST OF ALL my toenails! Starting to feel generally all around yucky even though I haven't been eating badly, which just goes to show, that all of these little daily habits tie in together. It's not just about food.
Also weighed in. Was relieved that I was still at last week's best reading of 157. I've always thought that the minute I stop running I'll gain a pound a day. The scale is pretty whacko anyway.
Gotta run!
Love,
Chris

Whew! Finally finished the grading! I'm kinda teery eyed since this will be the first time in 17 years I'll be out of the classroom for an extended length of time. I know I'm gonna miss it, but I'm also lookign forward to doing new things too.
I'm back down to 249 this morning. That's just one pound off my low. I really need to go shopping for some clothes--especially jeans. Everything is so big on me now! Even some of the slacks I bought in November are starting to bag--and I havent' bought any new jeans at all since July so I am really in danger that they might fall off one day.
I've been trying to wait because I'm going to New York next month and want to shop there. But I may have to break down and get a few things before I go. I'm taking my 13 year old niece and I think she'd be mortified if my pants fell off in the middle of the airport (13 year olds are so easily embarrassed).
Frog--I'm jealous of all the time you are spending at the NC beaches. I'm going to Kinston next weekend for my nieces' dance recitals but hope to get to the beach before I head back to Auburn. I'm looking forward to meeting you when you come to Columbus!
Deb--I'm with you on OA. I went for a while, but it didn't do anything for me. I could see that it seemed to be a lifeline for some folks, but ultimately I just couldn't work those steps.
BOB--you know we love you no matter what--whether you tell us your weight or your measurements. I balked at putting them on the web myself, but I've been working very hard on not being ashamed of my body--no matter what size. For me, telling someone is part of that. But here's the deal--ya'll know more than the people who know me on a face to face basis. I will tell them how much I lost--but not where I started and where I am now. That's information I will only share with you!
Everyone else--It's been a long week and I'm exhausted. I think I might rent a movie tonight and just relax! Know I'm thinking about you and will check in tomorrow or Sunday.

Evening Gals!
Just a quickie. Kitchen is just about done, just have to tackle the table-everything looks great. I pity the first fool who messes it up-the wrath of Mother will attack!!!!
THAT GIRL, I see many have already answered your question. Just a little more from me...the only 2 names I can find for Agave Nectar are Sweet Cactus Farms & Cucamonga. Only place I can find it is WHOLE FOODS. I use it measure for measure in place of honey-it's wonderful-also great for pancakes instead of syrup. Thanks for lurking!!:)
KAREN, how I wish I could find a food co-op down here, they just don't have them. Yes, the tea is TAZO, WILD SWEET ORANGE is the flavor, I believe. It's the only tea I've ever been able to drink without any added sweetener. Do you mind me asking how much you had to pay for it??
RHROO, glad to see the scale's behaving for you! You don't have to cut down on your calories, just get some more exercise!! See, simple solutions!!!!
NANCE, even if you were on the board forever, you can always ask questions!! You already answered your own question on DH:) To get the picture by your name, go to PROFILE then go to EDIT OPTIONS, go down where you'll see AVATAR and click on that, it will let you upload your picture and then put it in the proper place. I don't have a scanner but QUILTER does. If you can get it scanned and can e-mail it to me, I can easily get it up there for you. LMK! (let me know)
SPARKLE, why be nervous. Maybe it's not nervousness, but more of a sense that you are going to something you really don't believe in?:?: Hey, we all have days with bad attitudes, and being woman, we are entitled. I didn't feel like walking today, but I did, not fast, not long, but I did-that's the important part. I don't think you are truly neglecting yourself, I think you may be trying to get things you've wanted to do for a while (website) done and put everything else aside-you were trying to do way too much before. This now is normalcy!!
FILLISE, now you can take some time and smell the roses, enjoy this time!! How fun to look for jeans in smaller sizes-that makes shopping fun, it's when we have to buy them bigger that is the pits! Let us know what movie you rent if you do-always open for suggestions!!!
I'll check in with you all later!
Have a great weekend!

Hi everyone!
I'm finally able to post something instead of reading. I can't believe how tired I've been. Going to bed by 9pm every night and still being tired. I should start to feel better soon though. I have been only taking 1/2 my dose of Thyroid medication since November because I don't have insurance yet. Well, I finally broke down and went to the doctor today. He gave my a new prescription and I can now get back to normal. Maybe now I'll actually be able to lose weight and feel like a normal person.
Nancy: I think it was you that asked if any of us had fears of losing weight? Yes! I have a few fears. One is the fear of having skin hanging all over. But I think the biggest reason and the one that keeps holding me back is: Recently (1.5 years ago), I was divorced after 25 years of marriage (that in it's self was a real confidence stealer). Now that I am single again, naturally I want to be able to find a companion to do things with and to be friends with. I have not even thought about dating since I was 19 years old (I'm 46 now). That is a long time span there. I think the fear of letting someone else get close to me and walking away again is the biggest challenge I have to get over. Once I do that and feel like I have some self worth, I will probably be more successful in losing this weight.
It sounds like everyone has been doing great. I have missed getting on my computer every night to read. I am still struggling along though and reading what you all have to say helps me to keep trying.
Thanks
Cheri

EVENING EVERYBUDDY!! :D
FROGGIE THANKS FOR MISSING ME!! I've been doing good without my ciggys but right now I'm really wanting to smoke!! BUT I WON'T!!! IT WILL PASS...
So glad you had a good time on your trip...Everyone can't wait to go to the beach...ME??? I never think about going and it's just down the street!! I can't wait to get to the mountains!!! Which I will be doing in another week and a half!
LARA I've bumped the AOL BUDDY LIST to the top of the SB DIRECTORY PAGE...EVERYONE WHO HASN'T PUT THEIR AOL BUDDY NAME ON THE BOARD, DO IT HERE!!
Yes, food does taste better, and the people that smoke at work, I can smell it and I DON"T LIKE IT!!!
A Southern LADY NEVER WEARS WHITE BEFORE MEMORIAL DAY, or AFTER LABOR DAY!! It just isn't done.
Kinda like "us Southern Ladies don't sweat....we perspire!"
In my ancestors day....ladies didn't even wear white gloves out of season...then they started pushing it by wearing bone color then came off white...(yes, there is a difference)
When I was a "little" girl..we didn't even get to wear white patton leather shoes at Easter...but after Memorial Day, out they came, and we wore them to church or parties.
I still refer to black patton leather as "Easter shoes" and remark as such to people who wear them...
NO LINEN BEFORE EASTER OR AFTER LABOR DAY...AND NO WHITE PANTS, SKIRTS, DRESSES ETC....in the same time period...
I could go on and on about it, but it boils down to SOUTHERN MANNERS and what us "MAGNOLIA GALS" have been taught. If I've left anything out, any of you Magnolias feel free to jump in...
FLA IS NOT A SOUTHERN STATE!!!!
CAT You come on in this wagon...I've got the wide load sign on the back end!!!
NANCYOriginally from KY...JUST A BIG TENNESSEE FOOTBALL FAN but if I had my druthers...I would live in Knoxville...I just love that town!
Been in FLA since 1988...Been coming to Sarasota since I was three yrs old...it's still a small town with just a little over 50,000 people....but I do miss the mountains and get a little teary every time they pop up in front of me.
CHRIS Did I tell you that I went to OA two weeks ago? I agree with DEB.....NOT FOR ME AT ALL...I was so depressed when I left there...I'm sure it works for some people, just not me..
Ladies...the INSIDER is on, and it's such a good movie..
My Niece's husband works for BROWN & WILLIAMSON in Louisville and if you have never seen this movie...IT'S DEFINATELY ONE TO RENT!!! PLUS IT'S A TRUE STOREY!
WHO asked about gifS? I'll get some addresses together this weekend and put them on the board. I have such fun with these...I find them everywhere!
Nance, I got the pix under my name from the web. If you type in “GIF’s” in a search engine, you will have a big choice of a variety of sites where you can select any pix you want. I got my pix off of another board--actually a gator board!!! I found that for most pix if you just click on them until they are selected and then down load them, you can use those for under your name. The only caveat is that they can only be a certain size, which you will find out if you try to load something too big.
BOB--Thank good ness FL is not a southern state. I just wear what I want to. usually i wear sandels year-round if the weather is not too cold. I never wear white because it doesn’t look good on me, but I wear bone anytime. I’m a southern girl in all aspects but this one. Even born in KY, graduated from HS in NC and lived in FL (not a southern state) since 1960.
Went to a banquet tonight. Had shrimp cocktail, salad, baked chicken, no dessert. The band was so loud that no one could talk. It took them 2 hours to serve the food. We were served at 9:45. Then left after we ate.
I also went to OA for a while. I’m already a believer in a “higher power”, but my higher power is not so nebulous as theirs. He has a Name. I had a very hard time finding anyone who was interested in spending any time in helping me through any steps, and I discovered a lot of really disfunctional folks there. It also seemed to me to be another group on a diet--no sugar or white flour. SB is the same thing, without going to a meeting and intoning “Hello, I’m a compulsive overeater.” I finally dropped out.
Gotta go. Bedtime.

This will have to be quick, as it is 6:30 AM, and I have to be at a meeting at 8:00. Yes, on Saturday!!! It seems things keep coming up with my name on them. I definitely need help with the word "NO"!!! LOL
I went to the new GYN on Wednesday. Really liked him. As it turns out I have FINALLY lost the yeasties!!! Yeah! but, I now have a bacterial infection. But, the medication he gave me should rid that after five days.
So, now, I guess I am on SB for the "health" of it!!! :) :) :)
It feels so good to know that I have finally controlled this thing. I know it wasn't life-threatening or anything, but I just never felt "healthy". I am going to appreciate every day, just a little more.
Well, gotta go...
I'll catch up on the posts soon, hopefully tomorrow.
Happy Mother's Day to all you GREAT Moms out there. I'll be spending it with my mom...my sister is serving boiled crawfish, so no problems with being on SB
there...
Enjoy your Saturday for me...

Hello Everyone:wave:
I have my morning coffee and am ready to roll....almost!
Fillise
I understand the emotions you are going through with ayour career change. Before I went back to school to get into the medical field, I had worked at the same company for 11 years. It was hard to leave, but you know what? The friends you made along the way will ALWAYS be your friends! Good luck with the transition. Everything will be fine! :)
Debbie
Thanks for the information. I am going to see if I can get this picture thing conquered this weekend! We have a rule of thumb we loosely go by at the doctors office I work in for heigth and weight. For a 5" woman you start at 100 lbs., for every inch over, you add 5 pounds.
So for example, I am 5'8", I should weigh 140 pounds.
Of course age, bone size, child-birthing years also factor in, so I know that 150 pounds is more realistic for me.
You sound like you have picked a reasonable goal to achieve! Keep up the great work!
Cheri45
Thank you for sharing with me your fears. I too have a fear that when I loose my weight, that my stomach skin will not stretch back into place. My doctor says that it will, so since I haven't accomplished my goal yet, I have no reason NOT to believe him! I could probably talk to you for hours about the love-life stuff! I am on my 2nd marriage, and believe me, I know the thoughts running thru you head! I thought who is going to want to marry a divorced overweight Mom with two kids, but you know what? Some guy in Kansas named Dan did! We actually met on line as "pen-pals" in the normal people section. I had 7 pen-pals at the time, male and female, and Dan and I just seemed to hit it off! First we talked on line for MONTHS, then we graduated to phone calls, then he finally announced one day, he was coming out to meet me in person and 1 year one month later there was a WEDDING! So keep your chin up. There are alot of GOOD men out there. Keep working on your weight, your self-esteem will eventually heal and get better, do alot of smiling, and put your trust in God!
BOB
Thanks for the info. on the SB Buddy List. I will see if I can get that mastered! One of my best friends is from Kentucky! We have such a good time together, lots of laughing and fun! Must be all that fresh air and green grass that you guys get growing up there!

Thanks for the info. on the pics. I have a Microsoft publisher cd at work, I think I will kidnap and bring home. I am determined to have something by my name like the rest of you gals!
WELL.......Here is my report from last night!. We went out for dinner and tried a new place I hadn't been to. I ordered Prime Rib. The offered about 15 different varieties of potatoes to go with it on the side, and I managed to get the words out "Can I have double vegetables instead, please?:^: The waitress said "Sure" and came back out with 2 servings of CARROTS!! I kindly asked her if there were any OTHER vegetables and she brought me out Swiss Chard. To me, that's right up there with LIMA BEANS:nono: So I ate my meat, brought home 1/3 of it for Floyd, the cutest little puppy in the whole wide world, and treated myself afterwards with a SF NF small yogurt for surviving a night out! Any of you gals that know the power of the spud will applause the courage it took to say "NO".:D
I have a comment re: OA
I know the program is based on the 10 step program. Even though I've never attended a meeting, I have my own prayer I say. "One meal at a time!;)

GOOD SATURDAY MORNING EVERYONE!
Just got home from doing garage sales. Actually found some decent stuff out there today. My best find was a man's gold with diamond
ring. It has a few little diamonds in a crown that's a stamped piece and the ring around it is actually free-form. Lady wanted $25, I got it for $15. Got a crap load of old Vegetarian Times and Cooking Light magazines too. A bunch of other stuff as well. Finnished in time, came home with $3.00
CONFESSION TIME Yesterday, I ate like there was no tomorrow-like a flippin pig! I don't know what got in to me. Eli and I went to Outback for dinner-I ALWAYS get the salmon there, last night I got steak! He was shocked! I also ate the outside of the pumpernickle bread, I like the crusty part. I even splurged and ate 3 pieces of the bloomin onion (okay, stop laughing, that's a splurge for me!) Way too many carbs and probably fat-I think I surprised myself!
NOW FOR SOME PRAISE Felt so guilty about last night that this morning I got up at my usual school day time and decided to walk 3.5 miles before hitting the garage sales-I NEVER walk on Saturdays! Eli doesn't even believe me that I went (he was already at work)-it's so unlike me, but then again, eating like I did yesterday is unlike me as well:^:
CHERI, I hope that you will be feeling better once you begin taking the full dosage of your meds. The weight loss is secondary to feeling better.:)
KAREN, you're so sweet to offer about the tea, but luckily, I can get it for free. Instead of bringing his pound of coffee home, he can bring a box of tea instead. One of the perks! I'll have to check to see how that price is compared to locally, may be a tad more. You should be able to find TAZO in WHOLE FOODS if you have one near you.
BOB, what's with the linen deal? Not that I like or wear linen, but it's all over the stores down here. Thanks for posting the gif sites-you're always such a big help!! Okay, have we got use to asking to sit in the non-smoking section yet?????
GATOR, I'm with you, down here we wear what we want, when we want!!!
ICESKATE, glad you GYN went well and you liked him-hoping I have the same outcome Monday morning. I'm sure you'll be feeing back to normal in no time. It's great SB has helped you-the weight loss will be secondary, but just imagine how healthy you are going to be and how well you will feel in due time-all the while eating good foods and not starving yourself in the meantime!
NANCE, enjoyed the caht today:) Oh Lord, 5 foot at 100 and 5 pounds for each inch would only give me about 107lbs-NO WAY! I'd be a nothing!!! Are you sure about that???? The charts I've been reviewing show that 129 is the high in my range, that I could go down more, but I figured being close to 40, I'd start high and go down from there. 107 doesn't seem realistic at all to me:eek: Thanks for sharing how you and Dan met-that's a great story!!!! Congrats on eating out last night, you did us proud! I'm surprised that they didn't offer sweet potatoes-many places nowadays do. I too have learned to ask what the veggie is before ordering it!
Well, I'm gone for now-I'll check in with you all later tonight. Again, to all the Mom's out there-have a wonderful Mother's day, and for those of you who aren't Mom's but will be celebrating the day with your Mom's, enjoy the precious time together!!

I got your message. The rule is with the weight thing is that there are other things that you have to take into consideration...like I said, bone size, if you've had children, etc. The number is the base basically, but there is usually anywhere from a 15 pound variance.
I work at a doctors office that is family pratice and sports medicine. Both of the doctors are health nuts and are lean and mean. Their body fat is like 16-17%.
The go mountain biking out in the desert, etc!
I think everyone knows what weight they look good at, and feel healthy at. I've weighed 125 before and it's too thin for me. That was before children, and I know I will never weigh that weight again. You know what's best for you, there are so many different guidlines to follow it's ridiculous! Look at the food pyramid on ALL packaging. We used to follow that and look where it got us! :)
P.S. It was nice to talk to you too!
P.S.S. I'm going to try to attach my original selection for my icon, if it doesn't work, neither one of us will be surprised!

BOB--I am an army brat and was born in Louisville, Ky. I graduated from Fayetteville Sr. High in Fayetteville, NC, where my step dad was stationed at Ft. Bragg. Lived there for 2 years. Came to UF the year I graduated and have been in the sunshine state ever since.
As for linen, it is too hot and muggy in FL to wear linen only in the winter. Actually, linen does better in Fl in the winter, when our weather is like everyone elses summer. I wear linen when ever I feel like it.
Deb--you and I are kindred spirits regarding what to wear.
For all you long-to-be mothers who are having a little bit of trouble with the holiday tomorrow, my thoughts and heart is with you. We were married for 7 years before we adopted our 2 kids, and I know how I felt when everyone made such a big deal on MD, and I felt like a fifth wheel. I would say that we are “wired” to ultimately desire to have offspring, but when that doesn’t happen it can be frustrating and heart breaking. I’ve been there. But for those of you experiencing some of these emotions, never forget that your significance doesn’t rest in your ability to reproduce, but in whether or not you invest yourself in others. You were made for a very special purpose and you may have more of an impact in the lives of people God brings into your life than those who are biologically related. So, chin up, believe in yourself, and look for how you can be used to make an eternal difference in the lives of those in your sphere of influence.
Well, I’m gonna go. I LOVE my new ‘puter and it is really fun to play around with it. But my DH is beginning to feel left out. He is watching the boob toob right now, and I’m not much of a TV watcher. But I’ll go and be a good little wifey.
Take care, and will talk tomorrow, maybe.

I don't think anyone could sum it up any better than you just did about MD being awkward for those of us with no childeren. For years, I actually dreaded going to church on that Sunday, mainly for that reason, along with many unresolved memories of my own mother. With the Lord's help alot of the pain has been healed. DH and I never had children, and I ended up having a hysterectomy at 36. Again with the Lord's help, I am at peace with how things have turned out. Yes, I am human and sometimes feel down that we didn't create a child, or have sad thoughts about my mother, but I a human and will admit that is all the more reason I am blessed to have the Lord in my life. I hope I am not coming across preachy. I somehow just got caught up in divulging some of my inner thoughts.
Like Gator points out, mothers, mothers-to-be, or mothers-not-to-be, for that matter all women, I feel as though tomorrow is a day of celebration for all of us. None of us realize how we all can touch a child's life in some way, for the better. Isn't that really what's important???? We are planting seeds that, for all we know, will be day produce a very fruitful person.
Ok, ok.. enough philosphy. Have a GREAT DAY, TOMORROW, LADIES:angel:

GOOD SUNDAY MORNING EVERYONE!
It's a gorgeous day here in Miami and the day is starting out just perfect for me.
Just got back from my 4.5 miles. I pushed myself a little more and jogged a few more paces in each small stretch I do. I know I got in more than a mile today. This gives me a total of 27.5 miles this week.
What a wonderful Mother's Day present I've been able to give to MYSELF. I knew it would be good last night when I stepped on the scale AT NIGHT and saw that I weighed only a 1/2lb more than I did in the morning (usually it's about 2lbs), this morning I WEIGHED IN AT 130.5!!!!! Back to my low again!!!!! YIPEEEEE!!!!! What a sight for these sore eyes! Just pray that it keeps going down this time-this takes me back to losing those 1.5lbs to make goal!!!!!:spin: :)
I forgot to mention my STUPIDITY yesterday. When I was out at garage sales, don't ask me how, surely I wasn't paying to close attention to what I was doing, but I hit my head on the edge of the van door, hurt like the dickens and I have a nice purple lump on my forehead that still hurts like the dickens! Look up the word STUPID and you'll see my picture there.
Got an e-mail from an old friend yesterday-what a shocker. Haven't seen her probably since Michael was a baby. She found me registered on Classmates.com-waiting for an e-mail back to see what a good time would be for a gabfest!
I got my care package from Trader Joes. My parents returned a little poorer from Vegas on Friday with everything I had asked for (except the olive oil wasn't extra virgin:( ) The DROSTE 72% DARK CHOCOLATE PASTILLES were a low $1.59! I got my tomato splash, which is what I was happiest about. So now, I'm set for a few months!!!
We are going to my Grandparents house for lunch today. Let's see if she can behave herself today-there's always some comment about someone's weight when we go there-usually it's directed to me, but lets see what she pulls today. I'm making hummus to take-thank goodness I talked my Mother into making her famous TACO SALAD. She'll give me mine before she puts in the tortilla chips (recipe IS on the recipe board!).
NANCE, thanks for the weight chart explanation. What I'd REALLY like to find out is what is the best way to determine your bone structure size. One thing tells me I'm a medium frame, another a large frame, there was even one I saw that was with using your waist, that was much too confusing to try and figure out. I guess, like you said, it's really what you are comfortable at that you should determine what your size should be, within a reasonable range. Forget about knowing my body fat-that's much too depressing to even think about!
GATOR, Nance's pig isn't a pig, it's a hampster!!!!!
BOB, hey girl, we were on the same wave length, I too bought some new boulder holders! Buy 2 on sale at 30% off, had a coupon for an additional 20% off and get another one free by mail (with $3 shipping), not too shabby. Reeboks, hey, that's about as good as I did on mine, $13.50 a pair for Reeboks that were originally $90+ dollars. Sounds like you had a grand ol time at the mall yesterday! Wait til I take you around here should you EVER decide to come and visit! We'd spell TROUBLE big time! Hope you have a nice dinner at Longhorn, watch out for bugs in the salad! Nope , I didn't eat my entire steak, it was huge, but I ate more than 1/2, which is really unusual for me! Trust me, I surprised not only Eli, but myself as well. And yes, definite 10-4 on that sweet potato. Acutally, even though I'm not crazy about LH, I do like the sweet potatoes there better than OB! ENJOY yourself today!!!
AMSER, your post, so nicely said. I rank Mother's AND Teacher's right up there together, both nurture and teach such important lessons in all children's lives. I honestly believe everything is destined and things happen for a reason, whether we understand those reasons or not. All women, whether they are Mother's or not should be honored today, for being women, for being the nurturers, the true friends, the ones who you can find a sympathetic ear, and countless other wonderful traits. Being a Mother is wonderful (though it does have it's trying times, that's for sure!), but being a woman is really what it's all about:) BTW, I love your quote at the end of your posts!!!
Okay gals, I've cooled down and now need to go get a few things done before I go get in the shower and start getting ready. I'll check in with you all sometime later on today. I'm sure with the holiday, the board will be pretty quiet today, as it's been for most of this weekend. Please don't forget, TOMORROW STARTS THE NEW WEEKLY SUPPORT BOARD and it's MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY tomorrow, so find those wonderful quotes and words of wisdom to post tomorrow!!!!
Happy Day to you all!!!!:)

Happy Sunday Everyone:D
I've had a good but tiring weekend. We cooked steaks on the grill last night and had brocoli and salad. I really enjoy my backyard, deck and screened in porch. My little piece of heaven is sitting on the deck. We have woods behind our house and a creek that runs through the back of our property. It is very peaceful.
There is another group of people that Mother's Day and Father's day is very tough on. For me it is tough because I don't have either of my parents. So for everyone that struggles with this day because either they are not mothers or they don't have their mothers any longer...I'm thinking of you! Make the most of the day and look at the positive things around you!
Well I am still fluctuating between 139 and 136...I don't think I will ever get to 135 and stay there. Maybe my body is trying to tell me something?
See ya'll tomorrow.

DEB WHAT HAPPENED???? to everyone coming to your house for MDAY??
ANNA I LOVE BACKYARDS LIKE YOURS!!! What do you think about the "vote" to ban high school football in your state? PRETTY STUPID if you ask me!
ANNE Enjoy your Sunday. I don't have any children either, but joy in my Brother's two have given me everything but the pain of childbirth...They are grown now, but we are very close and I thank THE MAKER every day for them!
Off to Barnes & Noble to lurk in the aisles for a bit...then to the grocery to gather some veggies...we're not going until late afternoon to eat and when a baseball game is on the tube.....YOU DON'T BOTHER MY MOTHER!!!

Hi Gals!
I actually missed you gals, and felt weird that I didn't do my tradtional A.M. with coffee board posting today.
My brothers, one of my sisters, and my fam took my Mom out today for breakfast. It's almost 1:30 and I'm still full! Had Huervos Rancheros (sp?) was delicious.
Since the family came down this weekend, I cooked a complete SB meal last night!. For an appetizer I made Debs Olive Garden Artichoke Spinach dip, dinner was Quilters Honey Butter Sweet potatoes, Solshines Company Chicken, Debs Spinach Custard, and for dessert BOB's Triple Layered Jello. Then I had to go over the top, since I finally found AGAVE NECTAR!!!!! and ATTEMPTED to make Deb's Oatmeal lace cookies........the only disaster of the evening. First I made the 1st batch "on the cookie tray", then I clued in you said to put them on parchment paper...which I didn't have, so I used wax paper, and they stuck like glue!!! The flavor was delicious though, and I just scraped it all up with a spatula and will use it like a granola topping on some cereal!

It's an angry hampster....now I'll have to find another picture!!! Did I mention I spent 5 hours on line just to find something that fit?!?!?!?! I had picked out some many other funny things, but they were too big!
At least I am practically a pro a clip art now! :)

I saw the Drost at Trader Joes yesterday, but I have to much fear to stick chocolate in my mouth at this time.
I do have a method to measure your bone size(from the doctors office). You take your right hand and use your thumb and 3rd finger and wrap it around your left wrist.
If your fingers don't touch, you're big boned, if they touch, you medium boned, and if your fingers overlap, your small boned.

Your a Goddess!!!! 139-136.......That's awesome! What was your starting weight?
Well....the family just arrived.... I'll catch up with you all later.

Evening All:)
Lunch was easy, my Aunt & Uncle came down from WPB (ballot capital of the world) and brought all the food, my Grandparents didn't have to do a thing. There was even stuff I could eat! My Mom made the taco salad so I had some of that, had a 1/4 of a pump. bagel with just a piece of lox, a slice of turkey breast and some of my hummus. They brought the biggest napoleans I had ever seen in my life, a huge cheesecake, tons of candy and my Mom made her delicious red velvet cake-(of course, none of that was an issue-I treated myself to Carbolite afterwards). My Aunt even brought baggies-she's too prepared. The food was excellent (there was much more than I mentioned above). They are quite wealthy, so money is no object to them and they only get the best-my Uncle must really love her, he gave her the most gorgeous ring I've ever seen. It's called a cushion cut diamond, it's sorta square, but with rounded corners, like a chair cushion, with 2 diamonds on the side. The cushion diamond alone is 5.73 carats and the side diamonds are 1 carat each-CAN YOU IMAGINE! It's so nice that they really love each other, and have money to boot. For me, I married for love, never money-but darn, it would be great to have both!!!
It was really nice at lunch though. My Grandparents live on the Gables Waterway and we went in the back, right next to their dock wall was a manatee. Then we saw another one with a baby!!! I love those gentle creatures! During the winter months, you can see a ton of them.
BEACH, sounds like you live in such a pretty area, peaceful and tranquil, nothing like where I live! I one day would love to live in a smaller town with lots of land and my neighbors not right on top of me. I have always said, when the kids graduate, I'm outta here - 5 more years to go! That will give me 45 years in Miami-I think by then I'm due for a change-****, I'm due now, but can't leave just yet!
BOB, well, I really didn't want to have everyone here, so I waited til Friday to make mention of it, and my GM decided it was too much trouble to change the plans-FINE WITH ME!!!! Seeing the manatees was worth going there. She pretty much behaved herself-she's starting to lose it, so I think she probably thought she had said something about my weight and forgot about it!
NANCE, so how were all the dishes you made, besides the cookies? Do try to make the zuchinni loaf cake while you have the agave (BTW, contrats on finding some!!!!), it's really delicious!!! How was the food received by others? Did they like it as well? As for the Droste, I honestly don't recommend for newbies to have chocolate. I didn't have my first piece until March 8th, almost a year into being OP. Many people see that they are allowed chocolate on SB and start with it right away, never allowing their body to detox from the sugars and it makes them have cravings. In Montignacs book, it's not recommended until maintenance. On the measuring, I read the second finger, but if it's the third, then I'm medium boned, second large boned-hey, does long fingernails help??:)
Okay gals, I'll see you all tomorrow!!
Nite!
