Well night #2 and I'm still tring to get the sleep cycle turn around. But feeling surprisingly good. I'm starting to feel like I have a bit more energy. That's going to be a real plus working this outage. I haven't jumped on the scale in 2 weeks, so not really sure what it will show. Right now I'm trying to concentrate more on the way I'm feeling. And how the cloths may be fitting.
I've always found in the past that the scale seemed to be my down fall. I'd obcess over the number and not how I was feeling. So I'll wait awhile before I take that step. :dizzy:
How is everyone doing with the challange. Any new results, or new tricks. Thanksgiving is right around the corner. So lets hear those sucess storys.
hope everyone is doing well.

Hi, Deb - Looks like we're alone for the moment. Great work on stayinng OP. :cb: I think you're smart not to let the scale be your measurement right now. I'm still having trouble getting on the wagon. I do alright during the day but then I blow it at night. Last night was especially bad and I ended up getting a bag of grease from Micky D's. Feel lousy today. That should teach me. :rollpin: Take Care.

Rosetta don't give in, remember to just keep trying. I had a little slip my self today. This schedule is starting to take it's toll. When you first get started your body dosn't know when to eat or sleep. This morning I woke up around 11:00 and was starving, but still sleepy. So I went to the kitchen, fixed myself a PBJ ate it and went back to sleep. I'm really kicking myself right now. But I'm just going to try to move on and not dwell on it. :(
Hope everyone will not have any trouble following us over :?:
Mean while you hang in there, I'll be thinking about you tonight and sending good vibes your way.

Hi All,
I know I haven't been around for awhile, but after getting my blood test results my doctor said I really needed to get off atkins. My body like my mothers did, produces sooo much cholesterol and my shot thru the roof from bad to OMG! So I'm back to WW. I joined last thurs. A friend of mine at work joined tues and I went to get weighed after only 5 days (and I wasn't very good on the weekend at all) and I lost 1.4lbs. I feel like that no carb stress is off me, but I do still try to avoid the whites (potatoes, rice, flour etc..) but I still haven't licked it. But believe it or not, even with carbs back in, the numbers are starting to inch down a little. I'm also trying to exercise at least 4 mornings a week to start. My husband bought me a gazelle ultra. I've only used it once but it's pretty cool. I can watch the early morning news without blasting the tv because it's so quite(the :tread: makes so much noise) I could only do 20 minutes but it's a start.
Deb, how are you feeling since starting the diabetic atkins? And how's work?
I know you work some killer hours.
Pat, I'm trying to remember the last thread, but I think you went off lipitor. What happened? They just started me again. I was on it before and went off because of shoulder and arm pain, but the doctor said to give it a chance again as the benefits outweigh those side effects which usually ease up some, so we'll see. Are you on something else with better results. (and I wonder if it's in my head, it's only been 4 days and I swear my shoulders and arms hurt already)
Rosey, sounds like your doing great. WW is a great program. I'm not counting carbs though. Still having trouble sticking to points. I blow it at night during dinner. If I didn't have to cook I probably wouldn't eat, but once I make it, I eat it, even the stuff I shouldn't have. It's been a little worse lately. My cycle is all screwed up. Think it's peri-menapause(sp?) aaahhhh
Well, I know I've missed some posts, and responses. I will try to jump back in. I still think this is a great group here. Welcome to the newbies.

Hey gang :tired: Still hanging in there but man am I beat. The good news is tonight will be the last in a week and then a get 1 whole night off. Thank goodness this is only going to last a couple of more weeks. WE hope :crossed: I'm still watching the carbs but have to admit its harder with this goofy schedule. Any tips on how to make it easier would be great. And also how not to become bored with the whole thing. I'm starting to crave something different. I'm hoping this will not be the undoing of me :(
Rosey aren't we glad one piece of pie won't win the war. I know all to well sometimes they just call out to you and you can't resist.
Pat hope your feeling better and the cholesterol is doing ok. Try watching you fatty foods that should help.
Donna keep us posted on how the WW is working I may need a switch.
Well everyone have a good night.

Hi all. Took some time off to clear my head. Helped a little but I'm still struggling. Hopefully, this week will be better. My biggest problem is at night so I've decided that I'm going to eat low cal earlier in the day (lots of little meals) and then have slim fast at night and see if that keeps me away from temptation. I don't like to cook just for myself so I tend to get takeout meals so opening a can is much easier.
Donna - good luck with WW. That may be good for you longterm with some modifications for diabetes. I take Lipitor and have no side effects. I took Zocor before that with no problem. I switched because my ins. stopped covering Zocor. How's that Gazelle? Is it as easy to use as it looks on tv?
Rosey: Forget the pie. Just get back on the wagon and keep going to Curves. I think you're already feeling the positive results. How're those crafts going?
Deb: Maybe it's time to weigh yourself to see how the program is going. It's a risk but if you've lost weight then you may be motivated to stay on lo-carb for awhile longer. Have you tried making up a bunch of little snacks to take to work? Cut up veggies, a little piece of laughing cow low calorie cheese, pieces of fruit, etc. Hang in there.

Hey everyone, I know I've been MIA for a couple of days. Had a day off and was helping hubby paint the house. Then it's been back to work and the hecktic schedule. Hopefully this is only going to last another couple of weeks.
Rosetta by the time I get home the only thing I want to get on these days is the bed. But I did notice that my shirts seem to have a little more room in them. And it felt good. So I'm still pluging along, and not feeling like I'm craving the carbs as much anymore. But I do miss my rice. That's one thing we're big on in Louisianna. But oh well.
Hope everyone is still with us. I really like hearing from all you gals.

:) Hi Deb. I've been reading but just haven't felt like posting. The others will come back eventually -- or new ones will join. Saw the doc yesterday and weighed in. As bad as I thought. Time to get serious. How are you doing? If your clothes are getting loose that's a good sign. Keep it up. I'm not a rice eater but I have a hard time giving up bread, especially sandwiches. And bagels - our office has bagels & cream cheese every Friday and I'm having a hard time ignoring them. Sort of sets me up for the weekend. Are you celebrating Halloween? I'm not looking forward to Monday because people usually bring in their leftover candy and I'm a fool for bite size Snickers, etc. Well, I'm going to pass that up this year. :p I hope you get some rest this weekend and don't have to do more housepainting. WOW I thought everyone fell off the face of the earth. Glad to hear from everyone. Tonight I've got one heck of a pounding headache. But trying to work through it. Eating has been ok. But I'm just not really hungry much on this screwed up shift.
Pat 5 pounds is great. You know every pound counts with our numbers and thats half way to the challange. :bravo:
Homebound don't let the GTT get you down if it comes back positive. We are here and have all been through the same thing. you've got lots of support here. :crossed:
Rosey I wish I had your energy. At the rate you move you should weigh 97 lbs. Keep up the work at curves, if its getting easier then you're doing something right. :strong:
Rosetta I'm still painting on that dang house. Don't let yourself stay in the dumps. Try bringing something else to have with everyone on Friday in place of the bagles. Low cal meat and cheese wraps are good, and you would be surprized they make a great breakfast. You can even make them with a lite cream cheese and that way you'd still have half of your bagle combo. And you wouldn't have to cook a thing. I'm thinking of ya. :flow2:

Hi everybody,
I know I haven't been around much. Lot's of stress around here. My dear uncle who lived with my family my entire life(up until 7yrs ago when he moved into assisted living across the street from me) was in the hospital the last few weeks and passed thursday nite. It took me 2 weeks to get him out of the VA hospital in the Bronx(he did not want to be there) and back up to the VA near me( where he worked and retired from) I finally got him up here wed of last week and he was only supposed to be there for 2 wks rehabilitation(he had a foley cath) Well, he died very peacefully at the age of 88 reading a Mary Higgins Clark novel. I visited him the nite he passed and he seemed ok accept for he was a little stressed from all the tests and the thought of all the docs they wanted him to see(he hadn't been to a doc in 59yrs) So I think he just wanted to go. The wake was today and the funeral is tomorrow morning. He only has one brother left. (out of 10 siblings) So I've been handling everything as his brother is flat on his back. So I haven't been following any plan. And tonight the :) got me and now I feel :o
I'm glad everyone sounds like they are doing well.
Rosey with the energy of a white tornado.
Deb, the pace you keep makes me tired. What do you think of the diabetic atkins? Sounds like it's working.
Pat, 5lbs!! woo hoo :cp:
Rosetta, we both have to get up, brush ourselves off and get going. :coach:
Well, I hope everyone had a good weekend.

Hi, all. I'm staying late at the office to netsurf and my fingers are frozen. The diet soda doesn't help, but... I'm back OP today. Brought my lunches to work for the week so I don't "forget" one and end up with a sandwich. I've been peeing all day so I must have lost a few pounds of water.
Pat - wow. 5 lbs. Way to go! I wish I had some of your energy. That's one of the motivations to lose weight. I'm tired all the time.
Rosey - Aren't you happy you stuck with Curves? You're feeling the payoff now.
Joanne - sorry you're not feeling well. Hope your GTT is negative, but if not, as Deb said, you have support here.
Donna - So sorry about your uncle. Even though he had a long life it's still sad to see someone go. I bet you're exhausted from all the arrangements you've had to make. I know you'll get back OP when things calm down.
Deb - I hope your headache is gone. Sounds like your work schedule is working to your advantage foodwise. Congratulations on staying OP.

Hi, Deb. Your tiredness might come fromt he screwy schedule. However, it may help if you take a daily vitamin to cover anything missing from your diet. As to your --ahem-- Pat has a good idea about water. I don't know what the malitol is but it's probably like metamucil or other such things on the drugstore shelf. You might also consider getting some wheat or oat bran and putting a couple of spoonfuls in your juice or some other liquid. I've bought some oat bran for that purpose and also eat Kavli crackers or Ry Crisp with my meals. It helps. Anyway, I hope you get over this problem soon and are back to your old self.
I've managed to stay op so far today. My problem is I wake up during the night and am so hungry I can't get back to sleep. I eat as late as possible but that doesn't seem to help. Maybe I'll get some nonfat milk and drink a glass when I wake up. :moo:

Well here to say things are finally moving along.   And boy am I glad.
Rosetta I've never been much for taking vitamins But you may have something. In fact I used to not take many pills at all. But we all know that's now a thing of the past. So what's one more.
I have been adding a few carbs back into the diet. Not many but I think I had cut back way to far. Right now I'm at 30 gr. a day. Trying to eat smarter so I get the bigest bang for the buck so to speak. And have noticed that I feeling a little better than before. I think cutting back to far and keeping the long hours may have put my system into stress mode. So I'm trying the check and adjust thing right now.
Did finally get on the scale and lost 6 pounds. I'm glad I haven't been a slave to the scale. I know in the past it just always messed with my head if I didn't see the scale move everyday. I know that's not realistic, but try telling that to a woman of size.
Donna hope your feeling much better, and I still have you in my thoughts and prayers.
Rosetta and Pat thanks for the tips. Hope everyone is doing well.
Love ya,

Deb - :bravo: for losing those 6 pesky pounds. You're well on your way to the Thanksgiving Challenge goal. Glad you're feeling better. Good idea to add back in some carbs if you're feeling squiffy. I slept a little better last night but am hungry all the time. :hun: Although I'm not following Atkins my low calorie diet is pretty low carb and low fat and I'm getting cravings for bread and butter. sigh. But today is day three and I've been op so far. As for vitamins, I take a daily Centrum Silver and just count it out with my weekly pills. Am thinking of adding those calcium chews too, but I'll check out the calorie count first.
Keep on trucking (as we said in the '70s).

Hi all:Rosey, I'm thinking Cherry pie!   Your drink recipe sounds intriguing. Doesn't the caffeine keep you awake? You might want to start keeping a food journal to see how much you're eating. There may be something sneaking in there that's keeping you from losing. I guess your winter has arrived. The only snowy winter I have experienced was the year I lived in Iowa. that was enough for me. Our winter has arrived early too. Cold (like 50 degrees  ) and some rain. Yippee! I've been OP for the 4th day in a row. Feel better. The weekend will be the test. Hope you had a good workout at Curves.
Alana - are you taking any medications? That will make a difference in how you lose weight. Glucophage (Metformin) will help you lose, but all the others, like Actos, Glucotrol, etc., make it difficult, but not impossible to lose. As for diet, the guidelines for diabetics are somewhat vague, but basically it means eating frequent small meals and controlling the carbs and fats. There are websites with good information, such as the American Diabetes Association. Both WebMD and Dr.Weil.com have special sections for diabetes information. I have a lot of weight to lose so I'm doing a low calorie diet, keeping the GI in mind. Deb (2round) has recently started Atkins for diabetics. Do you have a nutritionist available in your health plan? That might be a place to start. Exercise is very important, something I need to address. keep coming back to this thread and let us know how you're doing.
As for the tracker, I got the instructions from another thread, I don't recall which one. anyway, go to tracker.com, copy the instructions in "v bulletins" (this is the first one you come to) come back to 3fc, click "quick links" then "edit signature" and paste tracker in there. I think you have to go back and recopy and paste every time you want to change the number.
Deb - how ya doing?

Hi, all. Rosey, I bet you make great snowmen. I don't do crafts. Have taken classes in pottery and off-loom weaving, but I don't have any talent there. The most crafty thing I do is occasionally color mandalas as a form of meditation. I used to write, but don't have the energy these days. If I were locked up all winter I'd probably go nuts or become a tv junkie. :dizzy:
Deb, good going with your MIL. Of course you can continue. I made it through the weekend with only minor slips. Down about 4 lbs, I think. (my weigh-in is complicated). I should know for sure how much I've lost by next week. Hi DonnaD,
I just wanted to pop in (I'm usually a lurker) and ask you if it had ever been suggested that you supplement with CoQ10 while you're taking lipitor.
Lipitor is a statin and it's been commonly associated with muscle pain and weakness. Although some Dr.s say this is hooey... most people I know say once they added the CoQ10 into their diet, their pain eventually went away. Don't let the Dr. tell you it's all in your head either... ;)
I'll pop back out to lurker mode, but if you just google on statins and CoQ10 you will find lots of info.
Good luck to you!

Thanks for the reminder sbbo. Actually Co-Enzyme Q is one of the supplements recommended for diabetics, along with chromium and, I think, Lycopene. Dr.Weil.com has info for diabetics and recommends this. Co-Enzyme Q is good for the heart. I take Lipitor but haven's experienced any problems. Have been thinking about Co-E Q for awhile. It's expensive and you have to be careful taht you're getting what you pay for.

I'm trying to use mostly the GI way of eating.
I gained past my SW and by 3 lbs and lost 2 back off. My BP has been around 130/77 and today it was 116/67. I'm so excited! My sugar is still more that I like.
Do you eat carbs in the evening(potatoes, etc)?
If you do should I cut it off so many hours before bed?

Rosetta I've never heard of Co-E-Q. What is it, and why is it a good thing for diabetics. I'm still so new to this that there are tons of things for me to learn. A 5 min. doc appt. every 6 months is not teaching me what I need to know.
Today in the bathroom I actully noticed I can reach areas that have been hard to reach with more easy. I know I've lost, But not sure how much. :D
Maybe time to revisit the scale. I just think I'm doing so much better by not obcessing over it.
It's a great idea to have your food at work for lunch. Sounds like you just need to vary the menu a bit. I know you don't like to cook. But I've found that when I fix my meals and vacuum seal the leftovers in single portions it helps me stay on track even when I'm not in the mood to cook. ;)
Well I found out tonight that next week will be my last week on the night shift. I am ready to get back to the world. And DH even misses me a bit. He cooked today, and even cleaned up afterward. I was amazed. :sunny:

Hi, all. Oldwriter, lurkers are welcome. I lurk at other forums, too, including the 100 club. Here we are all trying to lose weight and deal with our diabetes. None of us has the perfect program, but working with the GI is a good start. WTG on your blood pressure! As for blood sugar, mine has gone down since I've been on a relatively strict diet the past two weeks, although my morning numbers are still high. I've been counting calories rather than carbs and I'm afraid I eat dinner late - 9ish. That may explain the high a.m. numbers. I get home late (deliberately) because otherwise I would eat two lean cuisine dinners instead of one. Also, I can't get to sleep if I'm hungry. It's probably not a good idea to eat a whole bunch of carbs before you go to bed. If you cook, load up on low-GI vegs and minimize the potatoes, etc. I would suggest adding a planned snack later that will satisfy you. Keep posting and let us know how you're doing.
Deb - WTG on the reach problem! :D I'm sure you've lost a good bit of weight, but if you feel better not looking at the scale, there's no reason to. Co-Enzyme Q-10 is a powerful antioxidant, which means it counteracts free radicals (the stuff that causes disease). Most doctors won't mention it because it's a supplement and considered alternative therapy, but I've heard enough good things about it to consider it. I just don't want to start taking it then stop. I really recommend Dr.Weil.com. I suscribe to his newsletter. This month is National Diabetes Awareness month so he's highlighting that. Thanks for the food tips. I should do more cooking, and if I can figure out how to do it once a week, I will. I'm thinking of making a chopped salad to bring to work for the week. For dinner, I've been relying on Lean Cuisine and Healthy Choice. It's easy for me, especially since I have real problems with portion control. I budget in a small glass of red wine to wash it down with so it's not too unpleasant. They now have a line of low carb meals too. That's great that you see the end of the nightshift. Give DH a great big kiss to reinforce his helpful behavior. :D

Rosetta WTG :bravo: Just keep hanging in there. After a couple of weeks you won't even feel hungry anymore. Your body is going through an adjustment right now. Just watch out for all the sodium in the pre-packaged dinners. But if they help you stay OP. Just compensate by cutting the salt elsewhere. Boy wouldn't it be a drag to get your blood suger down, just to see your BP go up. Some days you just can't win.
Pat just don't let the stress of the extra hours get to you. Do a little planing ahead on meals if you can.
Old writer Glad you can find us of some help. I also say watch those carbs. It's really working for me right now. Not that I don't eat carbs. But I keep them to a limit of 2 servings per day, and really watch the portion size. I really think the portion size is the key. It's so easy to get a little heavy handed with the carbs because it takes so little to really add up. Here lately I've started trying new things like turnips instead of potatoes. When boiled they really taste almost the same, or so I tell myself. Give it a try, you might be surprized.
Well I hate to get to long winded. So I'm out for now. Everyone have a great weekend.

Hi everyone,
Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers.
Things are pretty much back to normal. We have a nasty cold going thru the house over the week and a half(started at the wake) But everyone is feeling better. I'm still not feeling quite right but I think it's a combo of the cold, allergies, TOM just finishing and also just finishing my first week of SBD induction. Sometimes the drop in carbs initially makes for headaches and such. I've been feeling a little dizzy but it not low BS, it's still pretty high though I'm down 6.5lbs in 5 days. (that reminds me to change the ticker.)
Rosetta, sorry I didn't post here til today and just saw your post for instructions. But I see Deb explained it well. Sounds like the calorie counting is working for you. I hate concentrating on food so much. Of course we're hungry, we have to think about food all the time. How much, low carb, low fat, what time.....aggghhhh! But keep plugging away. We all have to. My morning readings are still high and my carbs are very low but exercise has been non existant because I haven't been feeling well. Got to get the butt in gear. :coach:
Deb, Sounds like your doing well OP. Are you still doing diabetic Atkins? So glad your going to start days again. woo hoo!
Pat, Deb is right. Try not to stress too much. I've been stressing alot with my middle son and some other crap going on. Sometimes I think I can't take anymore and I stop and think of what I have and it gets me back to reality. I'm luckier than I think. But when you need to vent, come here. Everyone is great here and will listen anytime you need. We're here for ya chickadee :grouphug:
SBBO, thanks for the info on the CoQ10. I've heard of it but never looked too far into it. I will ask the doc about it also. Thanks again.
Rosey, Oh Rosey, Snow, storms...I just don't know how you do it. I get so depressed and lazy in the winter and here you are going to curves and so much energy. You are part of my winter inspiration. Thank you. ;)

Rosey glad you got through. We have missed your energy. As far as Thanksgiving, this yaer I'm kind of left to what ever the family will be fixing. This outage will take me right up to the holiday and cooking will be out of the question. My main goal is to make wise choices, and watch portion sizes. I will allow for 1 sweet item, after all it's the holidays.
Donna I'm glad to hear that things are getting back to normal for your family. You are right about the having to think about food all the time. It's enough to make you crazy. But you've done well so far you can get back in the groove.
I'm hoping everyone is doing well and keep those readings down. Till later.

HI, good to hear from everyone. Pat - it must be hard to go from parttime to fulltime work. You might want to try having just one meal OP, whichever one is the easiest. Donna, you've been through a lot but seem to be doing well to have stayed on SB for a week! Don't let TOM talk you into carb loading. :cb: 6.5 lbs! Rosey - snowbound -- I hope you get out to Curves -- you're doing so well. I'm going to a restaurant on Thanksgiving so will have built-in portion control and no seconds. I'm going to enjoy myself. Deb -- great news about the 11 lbs. :cp: :dancer: :balloons: I knew you were getting somewhere! I hope the tendonitis goes away soon. It's a b----h. I have chronic tendonitis in my right shoulder and left achilles, which makes it very hard to exercise. :( O, by the way, I, too have met the Thanksgiving challenge - another 6 lbs gone. Yippee!.

hi everyone. i am new to this site. i am so glad i found you all. i am type one diabetic of 21 years. i am 25 years old, so i have had diabetes most of my life. i am currently 145 pounds, and trying to hit 120-125 pounds. it is soooo hard. i run, but as most of us, i have to eat to replenish low boodsugARS. sometimes all i can do is cry from the frustration. i am really tired alot, i use an unsulin pump, and try to run as often as i can, which is usually 3 times a week. not enough. does anyone else suffer from teh high bloodsugars after working out? and the lows during? its like a battle i dont know if i can win. but i am really glad i see i am not alone. god bless you all. and thank you for having me

Rosey - Whoopie - you're definitely on the right track. You must have great eyes to do all that fine work. Bet those ornaments are terrific! My mother once made some out of eggshells, draining the eggs through a hole in the top, drying them out, then cutting out a hole in one side where she put angel hair and little stickers to make a scene. Painted them gold and ran a string through the hole in the top to hang them. I didn't inherent her craft ability.
Stephanie - welcome to our thread. I am Type 2 and am currently taking 3 drugs to control my blood sugar. I have been OP (on diet program) for almost three weeks and along with some weight loss, my sugars have been going down. Because of orthopedic problems, I haven't been exercising, but I'm going to change that soon and then will have to be more concerned with low blood sugar. I have a couple of suggestions for you. Maybe since running is bringing down your sugar too far, you might want to consider switching to walking for awhile and doing it every day or most days. This may be easier on you and you might not get so tired. As to eating, you may be eating more than you think you are. Try keeping a food diary for a week or so, adding up calories. The result might surprise you. I would also suggest that you check out one of the calorie calculators (WebMD has one) and figure out how many calories you need to maintain your desired weight, say 125. Then plan your diet around that number and divide it in to small meals so that you are prepared for the times when your sugar gets too low. If you continue to be tired and you can't find a reason for it, you probably should check with your doctor. In the meantime, please come here often. This is a place where you can receive and give support. :goodvibes
Deb - Great news. Here's something for your boss:

I belong to Peta and just about every other concerned animal rights org. on the west coast. I was told I have type2 diabetes in July of this year and have been kind of in shock ever since, I need to lose about 30 pounds to get where I`m supposed to be, and the older I get the harder it is.I`ll be 60 this next year.Would love to be a part of your group. Hi Stephanie, Welcome aboard. We have a great group here. I am type II and
ashamed to say, not controlling it well. But I'm trying. I just am not consistent. It's understandable, your frustration. You have been living with this since your a child. You're actually one of the many strong brave people out there who have grown up with a disease that many of us can't even deal with a much less severe version of. I give you so much credit and admiration. Makes me feel silly for ever complaining. I've been trying to deal with type 2 for less than 10 yrs as an adult and so many children grow up with type I. So a great big :grouphug: to you. I think running 3 x a week is great. I know even a small 20 min low impact workout helps my readings. I've been going on the gazelle for 20 min about 5 days a week and see improvements. Of course I will need to increase the time & intensity over the next few weeks, but sometimes it gets to a point where it seems you would have to increase it to a point that theres no time or you lose interest. But I feel some is better than none. So maybe walking as Rosetta suggested is worth a try and then throw in a run every couple of day. Remember, the less you have to lose, the harder it is. I know 20 lbs seems like alot, but slow and steady you'll get there.
Rosey, Congrats on all the success. Your doing just great. I was reading about you doing the precise work for the ornaments and thinking about the change in my eyesight over the last few weeks. I went to the eye doc last march and my reading vision took such a slight dip that he actually said it wasn't worth it to get prescription glasses, that the weak 1.25 magnifiers at the drug store would be fine if I needed them, which I didn't. Well over the last month I've noticed more and more that I absolutely need them. It actually scared me enough to call and move up my yearly appt. I was so nervous the girl at the doctors office had him call me. He said in my mid 40's(I'll be 45 in a couple months) my reading vision could worsen in a matter of weeks, that sadly that's how it happens. I've just been spoiled I guess, never needing glasses till now. But I'm going to get them checked in a couple of weeks anyway. He said it could wait but since I'm nervous, I'm going.
Deb aka Lefty, How's it going? I hope everything is healing well. I haven't had the success you've had but I'm close. Definitely lost. Made it thru 12 days induction and then a slight breakdown. Had a muffin. It did trigger a binge but I fought it. Didn't touch anything else. That's been my biggest issue in the past. Once I blow it I figure What the heck, and eat whatever. I'm still fighting it this morning, it's amazing how hard it is. Don't let that boss get to you. We've got some real crap going on at work. My ex-supervisor is leaving in a month(and she's off for the next 2 weeks) woo hoo!! :cb: But they are moving everyone around and cross training. (because the refuse to hire anyone) so it looks like some stressful times ahead(of course around the holidays.) Well, time will tell. I have to do what they want. Need the paycheck. I don't live to work. I work to live.
Hey Rosetta You have a good weekend too! And three weeks on program deserves a great big WOO HOO! :cp:
Hey Pat, glad to hear your back OP. It's a constant battle isn't it? but we have to keep trying. I'm cooking for Thanksgiving. Nothing fancy. It's all guys in my house and with them it's quantity not quality  I have a couple of frozen pies. Stove Top stuffing which they love, I'll make a big batch of mashies that they love, baked sweet potato for me and several different veggies. The hard part will be the cranberry sauce and stuffing. Need to have a little. But I'm going to skip the pie. I'm going to expirament with pumpkin this week. I'm going to try and make the filling with splenda and use no pie crust. That with some FF cool whip would be great. I wonder if I need to bake it sitting in a pan of water like a custard. Well, I guess that's why it's called expiramenting  I am looking forward to leftover white meat. Great for lunches. The guys usually kill the stuffing and bread.
Welcome Meadowlark. You raise birds? cool. We have an African Gray. He is so funny. But he doesn't like to come out of his cage. Once in a blue moon I get him out to give him a shower. We probably didn't train him right when we got him. My husband bought him. We both worked full time and at the time had 3 young boys we were raising. He got attention as far as the household was hopping all the time(boy did he pick up some bad habits :o ) But we love him. Though he is such a slob. What kind of birds do you raise?

I was supposed to have next week off but at 7:30 this morning, roofers showed up on the building next door to my apartment house and starting hammering and running their infernal machines. They plan to be there next week. No point in my staying home to hear that. So I'm in a foul mood today since I thought I was going to have 11 straight days to veg. Happy Thanksgiving to you all and to the lurkers, too!

Welcome, H. Are you taking medications. If you can get by without them that is the best. Exercise is also important for controlling blood sugar. Does your health plan provide for counseling with a diabetes nurse or nutritionist? that's a good place to start. We're all here for support and enouragement. Post often.

Well I joined this website over 2 years ago but sort of fell off LOL
I had my first fasting blood glucose test last week and I was 7.7 (normal here in New Zealand is 3.5 - 6
I had another test yesterday morning and am waiting to hear what it is. If it is not above 7 then I will have to do a GTT.
Gosh this waiting for results is sooooo hard!!!
I am 34, living in New Zealand, married to the most wonderful man in the whole world.
We have a cockatiel named Smukke who is our wee baby :)
Even if my numbers are not so high this test I am still going to act like and eat like a diabetic to prevent myself from getting it as long as possible.
I hope to get to know you all a lot better :D

I FINALLY had my blood work done yesterday. My Dr. ordered just a fasting blood sugar for now-I guess he'll follow up with a GTT if he feels it's warrented. I'm still doing pretty well with my food-had a couple of down days recently, but I'm back on track.
H: I'm glad you're here. This is a great thread, and you'll find a lot of love and support here.
Hope everyone is doing well. :grouphug: HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

well if the standard testing is two tests over 7 then I am a diabetic. My first one was 7.7 and my yesterdays one was 7.1 (here in NZ normal range is 3.5 - 6)
Better but not great.
I am going to see the doc on Monday and for some reason the nurse still thinks I need a GTT
So I guess I am official and you will all see a lot more of me as my fingers love to talk LOL

I have been basically been going through denial and ran across your board. Just wanted to introduce myself and if it is OK with everyone join in some in the discussions.
I have about 140 lbs. to lose so I am a little overwhelmed. The doctor did not put me on meds yet but I am told if I don't get with the program that meds are the next step.

Hi everyone,
Hi new gals, Loofah & Crime girl,
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Of course all plans of behaving went out the window. I haven't take a BS because I'm afraid to. I do well for a couple of weeks and then just fall apart. I get cramps and cravings(think menapaus has started) and I just don't stay on program. This has got to stop. I'm killing myself. I think the low carbing is a problem. The cravings go away if I have none, but as soon as I increase them, they come right back and into a binge I go. I guess that's why the doc said to just follow WW. But I'm always looking for the quick loss. Obviously that's why slow and steady win the race.
Well, I'm trying to get into the holiday spirit. Need to get the xmas stuff down from the attic. I'm usually the one who does the decorating.
Pat, glad you enjoyed your mini vac, you deserve. OP except for water. Big kudo's to you :cp:
Crime girl, do yourself a huge favor and try to get with the program NOW! I've been on meds for yrs and cant get it together. I have alot to lose also.
I've read the drugs lose their effect after taking them for yrs and I think I'm to that point. There is alot of support here. I wish I had this support yrs ago when I found out I had type II because I was young and didn't take it seriously from the get go.
Well, I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Well- I am happy for the support and hopefully I can get with it and not make things worse. I have to admit , it was more fun ignoring it ( ) but I guess the harder you work the greater the reward.

Thank you everyone as well :D I go to the doc tomorrow about the blood test results so that will be interesting. I have a feeling he will send me for a GTT anyway. I am going to talk to him about giving me a perscription for a meter and strips - I want to find out exactly what the things I am eating is doing to my blood sugar. I am getting sick of waiting around for all these tests - i just want to get started in managing my health.
I am still eating healthily - I am wondering if I am actually eating enough - with eating less carbs, low fat, not too high protein there is not a lot left ROFL

Loofah I'm glad you have started with the healthy eating, That's going to be the key to your success. And 6 pounds is a great start. :bravo: Make sure to keep everyone posted we love to cheer eachother on. :cheer:
Crime girl we have all been to the place where you are now. It's hard to accept that your whole life has to change. Ad even harder to do on your own. So I'm glad you found us. Coming here has helped me a great deal and it can help you to. And It's ok to vent. That's what we're here for. :^:

Like you, I've been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and I have a thyroid problem on top of things. I have 50+ lbs. to lose. My doctor recommended sugar busters to me and on this site there is a sugar busters board. I think that will be helpful. I'm not on meds yet so diet and exercise plus cutting sugar out may be the ticket. Good luck to you!

Thanks Cyl for the kind words and suggestion- I am going to look at the sugar busters board today. I started reading at the American Diabetes site and following the "diabetes pyramid" already but I am still scared I am doing something wrong. Reading all the damage diabetes can cause I think freaked me out!
Anyway- glad to be on board now and will probably be on a lot because honestly this makes me stay on track so much better.
Hope you all have a great day!

I have just been really trying to read labels at this time & watch the grams of sugar & carbs that I eat. But as I said, it is a little overwhelming. I do work out at a gym 3x's a week, I have been doing that for a LONG time!!!!

Hi everyone. Glad to see we all survived the holiday without too much damage. I indulged a little, but not too crazily. My Saturday WI showed I had maintained my 12 lb. loss. I'm back OP today. I'm working on getting some exercise in, slowly. One good thing -- my morning blood sugar the last couple of a.m.'s has been way down - that's a first for me. (Hope it doesn't mean my meter is going bad  )
Rosey and Pat - Sounds like you both had fun holidays.
Deb - You sound rested. I'm sure some more poundage will fly off soon. You've been a real trooper! :flow1:
Donna - don't get discouraged. I know it's easy to binge. I found myself heading that way over the holiday but I didn't have anything around to binge on so I was safe. You might want to try weight watchers, or just do a simple low calorie diet. Load up on vegs and protein and ration the bread and potatoes. Have you consulted with your doctor about the meds? Maybe he can change them. Keep taking your blood sugar, even when you know you've been binging, so you'll have something to compare it to when you've been good. And keep posting. We're here to support you.
Joanne - glad you're staying OP. Keep it up.
H - good for you that you're exercising. The longer you can stay off meds, the better off you are. I was off them 5 years ago, but now I'm back on. And they're expensive! The nutritionist may help you get on track in eating.
Loofah - welcome to our group. A 7 on the A1c is high here in the states, too. Mine has been hovering between 6 and 7. I've been good for a month and my daily sugars have gone down quite a bit. I do another test next week so I'm hoping for a big improvement. Diet and exercise are the keys to lowering blood sugar and losing weight. Not that its easy. What you might want to do is count calories and try to distribute them over the day so that you're eating several small meals instead of two or three big ones. This keeps the blood sugar even and cuts the cravings. Keep posting and let us know how're your doing.
Crimegirl, welcome. I know having diabetes is scary, but it's manageable. Glad you checked the American Diabetes Assn. website. That's a good place to start. We look forward to your posts.
Cyl, welcome to you, too. Keep us posted on how you're doing with sugar busters. I've given up desserts (except on Thanksgiving) which is a big thing for me, but I can't give up the sugar in my morning tea. (hate substitutes)Well, I think i've caught up with everybody. TTYA

So far I've resisted, but if See's candy shows up, I'm in trouble. My goal for this month is to hold onto what I've already accomplished and then start in earnest again after the holidays. Just what I needed today, all this positive reinforcement. I am doing pretty good with the small changes that the nutritionist gave me. Baby steps....I like it that way, it does not seem so overwhelming. At this point I am not so concerned about loosing weight, just getting my sugar down.
Rosey...good luck with the knee. I have had MANY orthopedic problems, if it is stiff & it has been 48 hours or more since the injury, try heat to help with the discomfort.

Hi everyone. Since I'm taking next week off, I had to do a whole week's work in one day. Attorneys are like that. Anyway, H. glad you are making some progress. Meadow, I know it's very confusing on what to eat. Rather than try to buy special foods, work with normal foods. Eat a lot of veggies and a moderate amount of fresh fruit. When you eat bread and cereal, make it whole grain, since complex carbs are better for everyone, especially diabetics. Eat enough protein and a small amount of fats. Start slowly and you'll work something out.
I'm on vacation next week, which means I won't have access to a computer. I'll drop by if I get to Kinko's. Otherwise, have a good week and keep on truckin'. :dancer:

Well I can understand the frustration of trying to adopt a new life style at this time of year. It's hard to begin with and the holidays make it even tougher. But H when you get up in the mornings vowing to do better your on the right track. It a sign that your really trying to help yourself instead of doing nothing at all. So you just keep on making that vow in the morning and you'll start to see changes. After all we're all here to root you on. :cheer:

As for my self I've been really busy with Holiday prep, after all the long hours I kinda got caught at the last minute trying to pull it all together. But staying busy is helping me not focas so much on food. Not really taking any weight off right now. But not gaining, so I'm happy for that.
I have gotten a little bored with the low carb thing. So trying to maybe tweek this diet a little. Cut back on the fat, and add a few good carbs just to vary the foods a little more.

 Hi, everyone. I've returned from a week of relaxing and trying not to eat. sigh. I had lost 3 more lbs. as of the Saturday before my vacation, making a total of 14 since the beginning of November. Alas, at last Saturday's weigh-in, I had gained back 2. And I really hadn't strayed much from the diet, keeping mostly around 1300-1500 calories, and at the worst still under 2000. I've been writing down everything I eat with the calorie count. I don't understand why I should have put on two lbs. Tonight I feel like eating something I've given up. I'm not too hungry, just ate an apple, but I want comfort food. I'll try to save the urge till tomorrow when our office has our Christmas lunch. The food is pre-ordered and there will be wine. I'll try not to pig out on bread and butter. Anyway, my blood sugar is still really low, for me. I should be happy about that. I had my A1c last week and will get the results on Thursday when I see the doc. I think I'm going to ask him if I can give Actos for awhile to see if I can lose more weight.
I've caught up on everybody's posts.
Deb, you seem in a better frame of mind. Yep, we're all trying to hang on until after the holiday minefield. Glad you finally finished that house painting. Did you ice your hand? that might help if its the tendonitis.
Loofah, hooray for you, exercising 2 hours a day. that should show some results and make you feel better. If that's making you hungry, try a low calorie snack and see if that helps.
H - Pat's right about checking for sugar, even in low fat frozen yogurt. Are you just wanting to eat in the afternoons, or is your energy flagging? You might try keeping low calorie snacks around at work, i.e., small apples, cup of soup, hard boiled eggs, etc. to eat when you're hungry. There's also small snackbars made especially for diabetics which provide energy and satisfy a sweet tooth. You can get them at Walgreen's. They also make meal replacement bars as well.
Joanne - congratulations on your blood sugar. You must be doing something right. I hope your family problems resolve themselves. In the meantime, we're here for you.
Pat - glad to hear from you. Hope you get all your chores and errands done without too much stress.
Rosey - thatagirl. Keep up those trips to Curves and baby that knee. You have the right attitude about the holiday temptations. Regarding those three supplements that aid diabetes, see drweil.com. He has information on them on his website and other information about natural ways to cope with diabetes.
Whew! Time to go buy my Lean Cuisine dinners.

H - forgot to mention, the name of the snackbars is Glucerna.
I was just going to ask you what it was called. Doing ok. My dietician said the frozen yogurt was ok, but sometimes the fat free stuff has more sugar & you could be better off with full fat. I have been bringing my lunch & snacks with me. The nutritionist suggested I add more snacks because I leave my house at 6:30a & get home at 7:30p, with an hour on the train in the moning & evening (and that is when I am not in classes after work) so I am starving in the afternoon, early evening. I got some Pria bars which are made by Powerbar (I think) but I looked at the label & am a little concerned. Maybe I will try the others.
Keep on going everyone, and I want to thank you for your support & advice.

I just got the results of my GTT-and it shows that I'm NOT diabetic! :D I know I'm still at risk because of my weight and medical history, but for now I'm just going to keep watching my carbs and portion sizes. I can't exercise yet, but when I get this cast off, I'll be going into rehab-HARD work! I'll still be dropping in to say hi. Thanks everyone just for being here :grouphug: !

Well, I didn't make it straight to the Lean Cuisine last night. I got off the bus and happened to pass a Japanese Restaurant that has very good combo dinners. Well ... chicken & salmon teryaki, vegetable tempura. Yum. the tempura was the worst. At today's lunch I didn't eat any bread and actually left most of the mashed potatoes. Did eat the ice cream though. So it's back to Lean Cuisine tonight. Sigh.
H - You put in a long day. Glad you're working with a nutritionist. You'll come up with the solution to your hunger.
Joanne - way to go, girl! You're on the right track to prevent yourself from getting diabetes. Do keep posting here, we'll miss you if you don't. :goodvibes

Good morning :coffee: First I'd like to tell Joanne I'm so happy for you. And Rosetta is right If I had done some thing years ago when I knew I was at risk, I would not be in this fix today. With My family history and My weight I knew the risk and chose to belive it would not happen to me. Well what a Dummy I was. Don't let that happen to you.
Rosetta your doing a great job with making the small scarifices. Sometimes thats the key to success. :cp:
Helen you are really doing a great job of making the change in lifestyle. And after awhile many things will become habit. And good habits will make for good health. You go girl. :cb:
Tonight me and the girls have our white elephant christmas with each other. We all get together at a local Mexican cafe. Eat and do the gift thing. I'm going to try and be really good all day to give myself a little breather tonight. Man I'm glad Christmas is almost done. I really need to get back on track. :(

Hi, just like everyone else, I'm loosening up a bit. Some See's candy (chocolates) floated my way and I had to indulge, but limited my intake. (could eat a whole box  ) Saw the doc today, my cholestorol is down and the good cholesterol is up. A1c was 6.3 which is in the control range. He's happy, I'm happy. Know I've put on a couple of pounds, but what can you do? The end is two weeks away so I'll just pick my way through the offerings and try to be careful.
Deb - How did the dinner go? Sounds like fun.
Rosey - You seem to be having a grand time and you have the right attitude about celebrating.

Hi all. Well the dinner went pretty well. I limited myself to a small Tamale dinner and was quite satisfied afterward. Then we had the gift exchange and all had a good time. Now it's getting ready to visit the family in Texas for Christmas and I'll be home free after that.
Rosetta your doing fine. Even I cannot resist a piece of chocolate now and then. It is my true weakness.
Rosey I must say you are in the holiday spirit. I love Christmas too. I just wish I had more time to prepare this year.
Hope everyone else is doing fine and we hear from you all soon.

Am really stressed out. :stress: Anyone got a Valium! Anyway, will try not to turn this into an excuse for a food fest.
Deb, glad you had a good time at your dinner. I know you can make it through the trip home okay.

Good Morning :coffee: Man miss a couple of days and the posts go crazy.
Rosetta I'm sorry you got hit on the bus. What a creep. But glad you are focused and not going to let it spoil all your hard work. Just be careful of your readings, as stress can be a real bummer on your readings. Try doing something soothing like a long bubble bath by candel light, even a glass of wine might be nice. Love you girl and hang tough. :D
Rosey I can tell you are a regular Misses Clause. :D I'm glad your having so much fun for the hoildays. And also glad the knee is doing much better.
Homebound a walking cast :cb: Yipee I know your ready to do flips. What a great Christmas present.
Loofah My hats off to you for making the good choices on food. :cp: It always makes us feel good inside when we know we are doing the right things, and your doing great. ;)
Pat I hope your kitty is doing better. Mine came home with a leg all cut up yesterday. He's a tom and sometimes tends to get into trouble. But he was happy to sleep at the foot of my bed a soak up all the attention last night. But I'm still a litte worried about the leg. As for you make sure your putting good carbs into the diet. And some high fiber should help with that cholesterol and triglycerides. ;)
Well guess I'm doing fine and got a little winded so I'm out till later.
Hugs to all. :D

Hi all. Well, I had a bad weekend. All stressed, depressed and angry at what happened and all the aggravation I'm going through. Have to spend Christmas Eve at the Dept. of Motor Vehicles getting a new I.D. Had to go to Macy's Saturday to mail an xmas gift and realized I couldn't do any shopping because all my credit cards are cancelled. Fortunately I had already completed my gift shopping, but there is always something I want for myself...o well. Friday night I was feeling so sorry for myself so I bought a piece of good cheese and a bunch of fresh dungeness crab meat and had a big salad with lots of blue cheese dressing. needless to say I didn't want to weigh myself the next morning, so I didn't. yesterday I wanted to pig out, but was to anxious to eat so was somewhat controlled (except for the 4 chocolate truffles I scarfed down). I tried to make up it all today by bringing Slimfast for lunch, but then had to go out on an errand and there was the deli... Well, Scarlett, tomorrow is another day. :sball2:
Deb and Pat - sorry about your kitties. Deb, keep an I on that leg and hope it doesn't get infected. I had a tom who used to get in fights. finally had to get him fixed after he came home with a broken pallet.
Rosey - you must be a really fun person to be around at holiday time. Keep up your good spirits!
H - Stay away from that sugar.
Loofah - great going. keep it up.

Loofah - you seem to be one of the few people who hasn't been waylaid by the Christmas fairies and led astray. Congratulations - you'll be in onederland in no time.
Carol and Joanne - I feel your pain. Yep, I've been off the wagon too. Temptations were hitting me both at home and at work and I've been feeling sorry for myself because of all the hassle of trying to replace things I lost in the wallet theft that I gave in to temptation. :eating2: then I had butter in the house for the first time in months to cook my special Christmas dinner and well -- it found its way into my daily eating until it was gone. Rosey-don't worry about mil -sometimes as we age we forget to have manners and patience b/c we see the end looming every day. All they may have is their own little space to worry about and forget that others are busy and don't have time to help them right now. I find myself losing patience when waiting for something. It isn't the only the young that want things figured in a microwave minute. Try to overlook her and remember we will be a crusty minded old fart someday too. I'm halfway there already.
She is a weath of things already learned tho and could be a help to you in other ways, as long as she doesn't try to take over. She may be feeling bad today that she crabbed at you. Just a idea. I've had a few disagreement with my bf's mom. I try to remain calm an watch what I say in return, and she calms down later after thinking it over. She rehashes years old stuff & makes herself miserable. My mom gave me advise that stuck with me. "Only one person at a time shouild make a fool of themselves." :)
Have a blessed day all. Carol
