Default Had my first appt. but PCP is being a pain

Hi All,

Figures...I finally get into a surg. to check stuff out and my computer dies the same day. GRRR! Couldn't read the board .

I'm still giving this some heavy thought and I got into see my reg. doc today so he could give me referrals. Is this normal? The surg. gave me a list of the tests that I need to get done but said I needed to get the referrals from my reg doc. My reg. doc took a look at the list and started to question why I needed some of the stuff. He also doesn't want to do any of the blood work until I'm scheduled for the surg. Not sure if this is right or not.......guess I'll have to call the surg. office for clarification.

The surgical coordinator suggested spending money on the nutritionist they listed. She's not covered by my insurance. I think this is a good idea..any advice on what to do with that appointment? Questions? Etc? I wish the surg. had a more cohesive practice...i.e. all the nec. specialists under one room, know what I mean?

Oh well, taking it one day at a time I guess.

Glad to see the Pookie is up and around .

Deb

I can understand why he would want to wait on the blood work. That should be done within a week before surgery. If you got it done say 6 months ahead of time, things could change over that period of time. You could become anemic for example, which could lead to sever bleeding during surgery. If your electrolytes were off you could have problems with your heart working right under anesthesia.

I'm not sure what to tell you about the nutrition appointment. I had my surgery done in a military hospital. All the nutrition appointment is with them is a class.

Good luck with your surgery!!!

I did all of my test about 3 months before surgery. My insurance would not cover the any of the pre-screening of PT, Nutritionalist or the behavorist. I was lucky and had to do them all the same day. Just different offices in the same building. Hang in there they like to make us run around alot before surgery. Maybe it's their way of making us start excersize! LOL
