Last night at the store I picked up a few items for our official start to Phase 2 tomorrow. I bought the most delicious looking pears and have them sitting in the window sill ripining and looking very juicy and yummy and I can't wait for tomorrow so I can have one!! Have I mentioned: YUMMMMY!
So, I just went to double-check the phase 2 food list and it doesn't say to have pears, but it doesn't say to avoid pears.
Here are the recommendations for easing into Phase 2, according to Dr. Agatston:
FRUIT:
1 fruit serving allowed daily to begin, gradually increased to 3 total servings for the day.
Fruit Choices (with suggested serving sizes):
Apples, 1 small
Apricots, 4 fresh or 7 dried halves
Banana, small to medium
Blueberries, 3/4 cup
Cantaloupe, 1/4 or 1 cup chunks
Cherries, 12
Grapefruit, 1/2
Grapes, 15
Kiwi, 1
Mangoes, 1/2
Oranges, 1
Peaches, 1 medium
Pears, 1 medium
Plums, 2
Strawberries, 3/4 cup
BTW, pears are AMAZING with a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese. I used to eat that regularly before I ever got on SBD. Very tasty!
ughhhh....might be good, but makes me sick to think of it. It's like peanutbutter and bananas, or pickles and ice cream. I'm sure I have some weird tastes for things, but that's one I've never heard of! At least it's OP and you like it though, right?
Laurie!!! That is exactly what I had for breakfast this morning -- YUMMY! I finally found the laughing cow cheese at Wal-Mart (I got the light) and I had never had it before and it was EXCELLENT! So, I had it with a pear and a yummy chicken sausage for BF. Best BF ever!
While we're on the subject, what's a good caloric intake for BF? I just want to double-check it!
I'm glad you like it, Lauren! Every time I have it, I feel so French! From what I understand, they are very fond of soft cheese, fruit, and bread as a meal. And a glass of wine or two. You have to love a culture that has a course dedicated just to cheese!
As for calorie intake, I would think it would depend on you, your eating habits, etc. Some people need a big breakfast to get through the morning and have smaller meals later, others eat small breakfasts and big dinners. Though it appears to be healthier to eat more in the morning and less at night, I think it really is up to you. You might find some good ideas in the FAQ for the phases...one of the threads gives specific guidelines on how much to eat for each meal.
I used to eat fruit and cheese all the time as a snack but I haven't since I started SBD. One day maybe I'll treat myself to a pear or an apple with some cheese. I bought some light swiss cheese last night and it is very yum.
Fruit and cheese is excellent and so French. Grapes with bue cheese are to die for!
I never thought of using Laughing Cow with a pear. I used to eat Brie with pears but have given it up for a while. Cheddar with apples - yum!
I do like apples and cheddar too -- yum!! I love fruit and cheese! Assuming a pear is about 100 calories, I think this breakfast comes to about 235 calories and I love it!! So much better than eggs and such a treat! Very frenchy.
Nelie -- I like that idea!! I love bell peppers. I rally like being in Phase 2 and having a few more options, though. I really think I am starting to get used to this diet!
Lauren, I'm glad you are liking it. You know when I read the book and read about people being fearful of going off of Phase 1, I thought Dr A was crazy. Not that I am fearful, but I like Phase 1 a lot and stay there for what seems to be most of the time. I know I need to jolt my body a bit from time to time so I would say I have 2-3 Phase 2 days a week, meaning I'll eat 1 phase 2 item. I haven't had fruit in months and I don't miss it but I may have to buy an apple or something one of these days to put in my salad, I keep meaning to do that but I forget. Things like bell peppers and grape tomatoes help satisfy my sweet tooth which is good
