O.k. let me start out my telling how great I did yesterday. I got up yesterday morning (after reading about dr.phil's rapid start plan) have a very nutritous breakfast. I dropped my daughter off at daycare and I proceeded to school. After my first class I went to the fitness center and did a really good workout on the treadmill and the elliptical. I worked out for an hour. After that I had a half of a turkey sandwich and lots of water. I got home at about 4p.m.and cooked dinner. And at 5p.m. i started eating. The worst part of it is that i could not stop eating. After that I had a couple skittles and about 10 p.m. i had the audacity to eat tostitos and salsa. Knowing good and well i was not hungry. I was just bored. And there were plenty things i could have been doing around my house. I just feel like this is becoming a very serious problem. I am afriad that I can't control my eating. I think that is why every time i work out for 3 days and then the following week i get onto the scale, I have gained weight. I don't mind the exercise but's not doing any good when I go home and eat everything in site. Someone please help me if you have experienced this problem or you know someone that has PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!
Thanks For Listening.

Hello Miss McCoy:
I'm just a newbie and not sure how much help I'll be but, I have experienced exactly what your going through.......eating out of boredom! Let me ask.....are you watching TV at night while you eat? Maybe if you took up a hobbie like knitting....it would give you something to do with your hands and always keep ice cold water beside you.....this might help. Or if you feel the need to nibble, keep cut up carrot and celery sticks handy.......this is all easy for me to say! :)
Just hang in there!!!
Trish
Eating out of boredom is one of my biggest problems. Also I tend to eat a lot in front of the tv or while reading. It is hard to break these habits but you've got to find something that works like telling yourself that you won't eat after 6 or 7 pm particularly after you've had a dinner that was enough to fill you up. I know it is hard to tell yourself these things and stick to it. Get rid of all the crap food in your cupboards and then you won't have any junk to snack on. Dr Phil has some strategies on his book about things to do when you eat mindlessly. Maybe that is something you could look at and see what might work for you.

Hi! I can very much relate! I have packed on about fifty pounds in the last year just by eating out of habit. I love to nibble while on the computer. I have found that chewing on crushed ice helps. I think that it satisfies my need to be always putting something into my mouth! :) Jill

Thanks everyone, for all your great ideas. I think that I need a hobby. And to stop eating at a certain time. As dr.phil says i need to prioritize myself. If you plan your meals and sent guidelines i should not have any room for screw ups. I will go at this again today.

I brush my teeth right after my meal and i chew gum to keep that minty flavor between meals. I makes me FEEL like I am eating (kinda) and it makes me not wanna muck up my pretty teeth after I brush. I have only slipped a couple of times after my last meal and that was more out of lack of control than anything. I am a TV eater. The snacking on the computer is a no no but I am guilty of that too. So the ice chips thing helps me as well there. Good luckk and keep us posted!

Hi there,
If I am reading your post correctly, you had breakfast and then did a pretty heavy workout (I consider 1 hour darn good!) and only had 1/2 a turkey sandwich for lunch!?!?! My goodness, you must've been starving. Personally by dinner I would have binged a million times more than your chips and salsa. I do not think that is adequate food whatsoever - so your body was eating the high fat foods at night because it was a biological response. Try upping your nutrition throughout the day, especially when you have extra activity. Good luck :)

Cindy,
I think you correct when you say that I binge because I have not eaten adequately throughout the day. I have ahd this problem all of my life. There was only two meals either i would skip breakfast and eat only lunch and dinner or i would eat breakfast and dinner and nothing in between. That's why I pig out at dinner time. I have been told by a nutritionalist that dinner should be my lightest meal of the day because most of us don't do much activity after dinner to burn off some of those calories. I am finding out alot of things about my eating habits that i never really knew that they exsisted. But that is why I am here, to learn and lose.lol. Thanks for the support. I will keep everyone posted.

I might suggest trying to get your eating under control, and finding out what works for you there, and THEN adding in exercise. Tackling all of it at once really is hard. I understand about the working out and then ravenous eating. Whenever I work out, I seem to eat more extra calories than I burned afterwards. I havent really figured out how to handle this yet but Ill get back to you when I find the magic answer. Good luck!!

Ya know, I had a hard time with that too when I first started working out now that I think about it. I tried drinking extra water afterwards but that didn't cut the hunger out. So I ate a small lunch before I worked out (which I still do) and had a small lunch AFTER I worked out. In all it was a combination of one whole lunch calorie wise, but it helped curve that hunger. It also works for morning work outs. Anyway, once again that was just my 2 cents.

The trainer where I work out asked me once if I ate breakfast before I came in and I had, and he then said I should have a small amount of carbs when I get home. The key, I think is not to starve ourselves, but to keep our body fueled in a wise way. That may be a little different for each of us, I guess.

Perhaps eating six small meals would work for you? Basically speaking, you'd *always* be eating, but if you planned your meals through out the day, maybe you'd get that physical need and the psychological need?
Just an idea... :flow2:
