G'day all,

Hope those of you who are having a long weekend are enjoying yourselves. We did not have a long weekend but yesterday was Father's Day and we had a nice day.
It was nice to 'see' Lily drop in and pleased you are well and your house is spic & span :D ;)

The world news has been just awful. The cruelty of the terrorists in the Russian saga is just beyond belief. I don't quite know what sort of sympathy for their cause they would expect after doing what they did to the children that were held hostage.
Hurricane Frances seems to have abated and the damage is perhaps not as bad as that caused by hurricane Charlie. Nevertheless, it would seem it will still be a while before all the damage has been repaired.
Hope Ann & Karen will soon be in touch to let us know all is well with them.

Our visit to our financial advisor on Saturday was good and we now know that we would be OK financially if Lucent and him were to part company.
He left for Sydney this morning feeling great that he will now call their bluff and tell them that we will NOT re-locate to Sydney.
I would be very surprised if they were to tell him he is no longer required but no-one is irreplaceable so who knows.

Some more good news, a small loss again this week!!

Stay happy and well all.....

Cheers
Maria

Starting weight: 94.9 kg
goal weight: 72 kg :cloud9:
todays weight 86.6kg :)
.3 from last week :)
total loss till now 8.3 kg :goodscale

HI All,

Maria stay firm. Don't blame you for not wanting to relocate. You must be getting tired of all this. Congrats on the lb loss.

Slavika I couldn't live in your house with all those goodies around. They would be calling my name constantly. I admire you for not giving in. I don't even care for chips but if they are here I will nibble on them.

Ann your honeymooners will have a honeymoon to remember won't they? Hope you and Karen are safe this time around. I heard this morning that Frances is heading for the panhandle.

Lily glad you are doing so well on the Core program. I am still figuring it out. Sometimes [well most of the time] I don't realize I am full and keep stuffing. I am working on that. Do you eat the ffcheese that tastes like cardboard? This week I am working on cutting down on the bread and see how that works.

Trudy I knew what a splotch was. I am very good at getting them-a lot of my clothes have splotches on them. I love to go to our zoo and see the white tigers. A long time ago I was a zoo volunteer.

Glenda-good to hear from you.

Been doing some yard work and getting sore muscles from it. I guess that should be telling me something. Been digging up daylillies and moving stuff around that needed to be divided. Enjoying the long weekend. We went to a cookout yesterday and it sure was hot and humid.

Hi Everybody :)

Karen and Ann I sure have been thinking about you two over the weekend. I hope you and those close and dear to you weathered Hurricane Frances and that your homes are ok too. Karen you have certainly seen the worst possible kind of weather in Florida since you and DH moved there, so now I hope you get to enjoy the beauty of Florida and their usual wonderful weather. I know that cleanup in some areas is going to take a long time, as well as getting power back. I can hardly wait to hear from you both. :grouphug:
Maria Congrats to you on your weight loss. Good for you!! :cheer:
Glenda I agree with Trudy you sure do have a great sense of humour. So you were an english teacher in another life.........why did you give teaching up?
Lily nice seeing you. Sounds like you are relaxing a little over this long weekend. GOOD!
Peggy I have to get outside and do a bit of yard work too. I want cut off the rest of my rhubarb and package it up and freeze it and my rose bushes have to pruned BADLY too. We have had so much rain it's really difficult to do any gardening. :(
We came back from the lake last night as DH back is still bothering him and he just wanted to come home and sleep in his own little "beddie". We had the "International Dinner" at the lake yesterday. There was about 40 or 50 of us, including the little munchkins. There was so much food and such good food. My friend deep fried a 15# turkey, and I did several racks of Greek Dry Ribs. Together we made a Ukrainian dish with bread dough and beet leaves. You take a walnut sized amount of bread dough and wrap a fresh beet leaf around it. When you have finished rolling them up you place them in a roaster and bake. You make up a sauce by frying a couple of large chopped onions, in about 1/2 lb of BUTTER, then adding 1 quart of WHIPPING CREAM and continue cooking. You then add lots of fresh dill and a little bit of flour to thicken the sauce and finally pore this mixture over the Beet Buns. In Ukrainian they are called.."Ba-lob-ish-ka". Now without even counting the bread dough, I figured that the whipping cream and butter came to 112 points. The reason I am telling you gals all this, is because I stood on my scale this morning and I was 3 lbs UP. :rollpin:  I didn't even mention the cabbage rolls, spare ribs in BBQ sauce, pasta salads, Oriental chicken, oh yes, the lovely salmon pate which I made "Lavash" for at home and took it out to the lake. There was also Lasagne and some Mexican type dishes and also a couple of Dutch dishes. I baked Lemon Cookies/Chocolate Chip/shortbread and the easy to make Praline Cookies. There were other dessert type things but not many. My little granddaughter (with her Mom's help) made a Pumpkin loaf.
I will go to Weight Watcher's tomorrow and face the music well face the scale :D and get all the information on the new program and work on getting on track again. I told you gals....I do worse on program when I am not at home. GRRR
Bye for now.

Slavika: SOunds like you had fun tho :) That Ba-lob-ish-ka sounds good. But sure sounds like alot of work to make to.

Peggy. When I use cheese I use low fat. Dont like the fat free. I also use Kraft Single FF its not bad for omelettes and things like that. but I wouldnt eat it on a sandwich :)

We are going out to lunch today.

Later!

I had a lovely, well written, informative and very witty post all ready to submit when I decided to add an attachment and then ..... poof.... it all went  Can anyone tell me what to do to add an attachment to my post. Maria you always do that, please advise me.
We are all hoping to get some good news from Karen & Ann, I heard on CNN that Tampa has flooding. It is one thing to watch these things on TV, but when someone we know is involved, it is hard not to worry. And now, Hurrican Ivan might hit Florida too, time will tell with that one. What a year we have all had. It seems like everyone's weather has been unusual. The wonderful long hot summers we usually get, was replaced with cool, rainy weather. BC had the temps we are used to. The fruit from BC was not good this year, Safeway would advertise fruit, just to turn it away when it arrived. I guess it was just too hot there. I saw the movie "THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW", it was about global warming that the scientists have been warning us about, only this happens instantly. Did you see it Glenda? Canada was covered with 20 feet of snow and ice, and instant ice age.
Maria I too am sicked with what is going on in Russia, those poor childrens faces just haunted me. Our newspaper had pages and pages of the tragedy. I don't blame you for now wanting to move to Sydney. It must be reassuring not to be left with no options and being able to refuse the move.
Slavika I didn't go to the International Dinner and I gained 3 lbs... :eating2: Are you sure our WW is going to start the Core Program tomorrow?... hummmm, maybe I will to to the meeting. I will definitely see you for :coffee2: Tomorrow my DD has to see her doctor and luckily for me, the office is near my home. She will drop the little  at our place while she is gone.
Lily I have to know, would macaroni & cheese be considered core if I used regular cheddar cheese and skim milk? The answer to this question might determine whether or not I go back to WW.
Peggy I do believe the tigers were from the Columbus Zoo in Ohio. They were just awesome. If I can add an attachment to my post :chin: I will post the picture.

TTFN, see you later... :twirly:

G'day all,

For some reason I did not receive notification that there were new posts.
I just came to check on Trudy's photo and then found all the new posts!

Peggy Is it our age, dh and I seem to have more and more 'splotches' on our clothes these days ;) :D
That would have been a great volunteer job at the zoo!

Slavika your description of the International Dinner made my mouth water, I am surprised you are only up 3 lbs! You may still be in for a pleasant surprise tomorrow at the weigh-in and will not be up as much as you think :crossed:

Loved Trudy's photos and look forward to more of the same attached to her posts!

DH is back in Sydney and they have accepted our decision, he will be commuting till the end of October when this project is finished, after that who knows.
I might go over for a little while to give him a break of the commuting.
Our dd in Melbourne is moving house and I really want to go and see her as well. I will just have to work out something.

Hope we hear from Karen & Ann soon and all is well with them and their families.

Cheers
Maria

Trudy: Granddog is to cute! I love her!
Sorry it took me so long to answer your email. But send me your Moms Mac and cheese I will try and revise it for you. And go back you might be suprised. And I am here to help. Just might take me a few days to answer. I forget my email

Maria: Well thats good news for now. Hope it works out in the end. My fingers are crossed for you.

From hearing the news it might be a while before we hear from Karen and Ann :( Power is out and another storm on the way. :( Hope they are ok! :?:

Maria What can I say, you are truly an artist. :bravo: The picture you sent this morning with the beautiful frame around my grand-pooch is so cute. My DD came over this morning and she just loved it too. I made it my desk top and showed to the ... she said "my puppy" blew a kiss and leaned in for a hug. We are printing it off, I will put mine in the album and DD is going to display hers. I am going to send it to our friends on the board so they can see your handi-work too. Also, thanks for the addy you sent, I am going to check that out thoroughly, who knows there might be something there I can work with.
Well, I went to WW and listened to The Core presentation. It looks interesting, I will give it a try and see what happens. I have points to count for today, because I went to A & W BEFORE the meeting and to Slavika's after... not exactly sure how many points, I will figure it out later.
Lily I think you are right about not hearing from Karen or Ann for a few days. The TV coverage I saw, looked bad. Since the hurricane had been down-graded I didn't think it would do so much damage.
I bought whole wheat macaroni, but couldn't get the velvetta cheese, I think I will use my Light Kraft Cracker Barrel Old and count points on it.

I had better go and do my points and read the WW info booklet very carefully :mag:, bye for now..

G'day everyone,

Thank you for your kind words Trudy and I am glad you like the picture I sent.
The frame your grand-dog is in is one of my favourite photo frames I have at home. I took out the photo and scanned the frame and then put your grand-dog into the scanned framed.
Not really that clever just thinking a little outside the square :D ;)

It is a lovely sunny day here after some very cold and wet weather.

See ya tomorrow,

Cheers

Just a quick check in. We are alright. No damage. There was some to the park. Also it took a while for us to get home because of some flooding in the park. We came home yesterday and were able to have someone ferry us in to our house. it is fine. We got power last night boy how we take that one for granted. We are now washing and getting ready for the next round. We will be leaving again if need be already have a hotel lined up.
Back later. I haven't tried to call Ann yet.

I have been so worried about Karen and Ann. It was great to hear from them and know that so far, everything is okay. I have prayed that the damage won't be extensive. The older I get the more I seem to hurt regarding such horrendous news stories as the Russian terrorist attack, especially the little kids. Sometimes I don't know where to take all the hurt, so I will declare a moratorium from all news stories. Seems like running away from it, but I just almost can't handle even thinking about it all. I do pray for these people and know how easily it could be us. Just kind of a hopeless feeling. I would never be a good social worker, would I?

Many years ago I was an English teacher. I quit to have children (which was a difficult proposition for us) and did not want to go back to that much stress. I went to work at OSU for just a cushion, and now it is much more important to us all. Sometimes I think I should have remained teaching, but I didn't.....second guessing is no good, is it?

Slavika, the way you cook! I am so impressed, can't say it enough. That food you described--I gained 5 pounds reading the receipes.

Maria, I am so glad your DH has decided he "could" quit. Gives you so much freedom, doesn't it? Your picture of Trudy's grand-doggie was so pretty. Such a pretty frame.

Well, hope you all are doing fine. The Core program sounds great if you can do it. Someone told me that if you eat out, it isn't the program for you. That seems to be my life these days. So, the flex points program is for me.

Hi Everybody :)

Karen it was just super to come here today and see your post. I am so happy that you and DH are fine and so is your home. I hope that we will be hearing from Ann soon. :)
Maria nice job on Trudy's granddogs picture. She sure is a cute puppy. :D
Well everybody, I did go to WW yesterday and it was much better then I thought it would be. Instead of the 3# up that I thought I would be I had a gain of .8. :goodscale
That was a really nice surprise. I am not certain as to what happened. Maybe my scale was wrong when I weighed myself at home Monday morning. It might have had something to do with the fact that KICKED it. hee hee  We got all the information on the new Core program. I think it is a little bit too restrictive for me and I will stick with the points system. I know the points program fairly well, and usually do pretty good on it. I may give the Core program a try one week just to see how I do on it. Our Leader said that the weight losses were comparable with the two programs.......you didn't lose more with one then the other.
Time for me to make some dinner. Talk to you all soon. :)

Trudy
09-08-2004, 07:47 PM
Karen so good to hear that your home is still intact and you weathered this storm. You will be a pro after this season is over.
Glenda I am with you on the "bad news" every day. My DH likes to watch the news at 11:00pm every night. I usually leave then to start getting ready for bed, it just just too hard to watch and then expect to sleep. I am trying Core, I will see where it takes me.
Slavika and I thought that our WW leader was a bit rattled yesterday, trying to juggle all her papers and answer the questions. She has only been on it for 3 weeks. There was a lot of confusion among the members.
Maria You must always be thinking to come up with scanning a frame. No wonder your little business venture is doing so well.
I hope that Ann checks in with us soon.
Did anyone see Oprah today? She looks just fabulous, I wonder how she lost her weight? He show was good too, about aging and what foods to eat and what to avoid, and what can cause wrinkles. I wish she had transcripts (free) on her web site.

Bye bye.. :comp:

Hello, Ladies! Do you all remember me from ---- let's see -- could it be 6 YEARS!!!??? I cannot believe you gals are still visiting daily online! A few of you were my weight-loss, cyber friends in '99 and 2000 -- Lily, Slavika, Trudy, Peggy, Karen. Those were familiar as I scanned the thread. I have recommitted to WW last week. I would rejoin at least once a year, with no lasting results. I hope to shed 20 pounds this go-round. Have you all reached goal and maintaining?

I don't seem to have alot of computer "play time" these days, but I may drop by occasionally. Slavika, as I recall, you and Ann and I got this "Feisty & Sexy 50-60 yr olds" started many moons ago! Is the "Ann" y'all are speaking of the "original Ann"?

Really good to see you all!

Hi Josie what a surprise to "see" you here. :) I think when we first got all together and started the "50 - 60" board it was in the fall of 1999 as that was around the time I got my computer. If I remember correctly didn't you have a job doing some typing at home? Are you still working at that? How have you and your DH been?
My weight was up a bit and I managed to get most of it off but I still have 8# to go to get back to my goal weight but I am going to Weight Watchers. Trudy and I still have Tea Time every Tuesday after Weight Watchers......and I guess you read on the board that Karen and her DH have retired and moved to Florida just a short while ago.
Lily is always very busy but does manage to pop in every once in awhile to say hello to us. The gal Ann that we have posting with us now is not the Ann that you remember. Our friend Ann that has been posting with us for some time now also lives in Florida not to far from where Karen is. We haven't heard from her in a couple of days, but likely her power is down. We hope to hear from her soon. Peggy is in the process of trying to sell her home so she is busy these days too.
Good for you for getting back to WW. Are you going to try the new Core program?
Well it's late but I wanted to say hello to you....."talk" to you soon. Bye for now. :)

Trudy
09-09-2004, 05:14 PM
Good to see you back Josie... has it been that long? Yes, Slavika and I are still doing the same thing  Every time I gain some weight I haul myself back to a meeting. I am trying Core program this time around. I hope you drop in on us from time to time. It is always great to get new ideas from old friends.
I went to a Body Flex class today, :workout: all weights. I had a heck of a time lifting the 9 and 12 lb bars, a month ago I was up to 15 lbs. YIKES, you sure can lose it fast if you don't keep it up.
It is Thursday, and of course our hearts were set on a Wendy's burger :cbg: ... habits die hard. I had to make this work somehow, since I allow myself 5 points a day out of the 35 points for the week. A single is 9 points, less 1 point for the mayo, don't like it. Then I took off the bottom 1/2 of the bun - less 2 points (I hope), and just ate 3/4 of the burger, gave the other 1/4 to DH. This comes to 4 1/2 points. I am not a big french fry person, so just I had 5 fries. What do you think Lily? As for my long anticipated Macaroni & Cheese I have decided to make it with 3 oz of whole wheat uncooked macaroni and 3 oz of plain macaroni 5 points. I just can't eat that much whole wheat, it bothers me. I will grate some Cracker Barrel Old cheese and use skim milk, add some chopped green peppers, skim milk and some strained canned tomatoes.... top it off with some sprinkled paprika and I will have the dish my Mom used to make. Not sure how much cheese to put in but 30g = 99 cal = 2 points, so I will be careful. Maybe 4 oz ?? I only want enough macaroni & cheese for 4 servings, we will have 2 servings each :eating2: .
  Some people plan for their vacations for 6 months... right Slavika? I take that long with a meal...
See you later... :stars:

G'day all,

Karen thanks so much for letting us know all is well, hope we soon hear from Ann

Glenda I almost agree with you regarding a moratorium on all this misery. Down our end of the world we have been shocked by the bombing outside the Australian Embassy in Jakarta yesterday :( .

Slavika you must have been thrilled with your weigh-in. It is strange when you expect to have lost, you don't and when you expect to have gained, you haven't or only a small amount :dizzy:

Trudy I think it is amazing how quickly you 'loose' it and how quickly you do get your strength back with the weights. I really like weights, it makes me feel good and makes me feel that I am strengthening my arm muscles and maybe they won't look quite so wobbly this summer ;) :D

I don't remember you Josie eventhough we joined 3fc around the same time. For quite a while I used to post on the 'Daily Thread' before finding this group. The 2 people that stand out in my mind is 'Rupert's Mom' and a lady called 'Pat' from Alaska, her husband was quite ill at that time.
Do any of you remember these 2 ladies? I think the 'Ann' you referred to was 'Eaglesong', would that be right??????

Finally got my house 'ship-shape' before dh comes home tonight from Sydney.
I am getting worse and I get distracted all the time. Today as I was sweeping my verandah, I thought my garden is looking so colourful that I took some photos. Then the flowers I had cut and put in a vase also invited to be photographed. So an hour later, I got some really nice shots I will share some with you but still a messy house :(
Got going again and dd rang for a chat, got going again and then my sister-in-law dropped by.
Now 7 hours later, I am posting this in a clean and nice smelling house :) :)

See ya all......

Cheers
Maria

Hi all: We are fine. A little hot and tired, but we finally got our power
back last night. :cp::cp::cp: It was nice to have a cool nights sleep. We didn't have much more damage. Lost a few more shingles, and a piece of aluminum from the front porch. Finally the insurance adjuster is coming next week. They had so much worse cases than ours, we just needed to wait.

We did lose most of the food in our freezer and fridge. I hated to throw some of the stuff out, but it is not smart to take any chances. we did some shopping today, so we can eat, but don't intend to do any stocking up until we know what Ivan is going to do.

I did sort of try and catch up with everyone, but can't remember everything so won't make any comments until I can read again. Now that we have air I can sort of catch up on house work, etc. It was just too hot and sticky to do anything before this. I aappreciated all your thoughts and prayers, and don't stop. Maybe Ivan will turn. He sounds like a particularly viscious one. The poor Grenadians had such a hit. I don't want to wish that sort of devastation on anyone, but we sure have had enough.

Karen: Am glad that all is well with you. Such an introduction to Florida living, but believe me, it is not always like this.

Will write more later, and tell you about our shelter experience, and our honeymooners. Ann

Hi Everybody :)

I am going to go to the lake this evening and will spend the weekend with my friend. Her DH went on a fishing trip and my DH's back is still not great and he opted to stay in the city and babysit the grandchildren tomorrow night (and the weather is not very nice anyway). He will come out to the lake on Sunday and then we will come home together. :) I was happy to see your post Ann and know that you are safe. I guess now we have to wait and see what Ivan will do. :(
I pray it does not touch any part of Florida.
Your "honeymooners", are certainly going to have a story to tell their friends and relatives when they get home. :)
Bye for now.

Ann so glad to see you are back with us, without sustaining any more damage. We are all keeping our fingers crossed :crossed: that Ivan will turn. It is leaving a lot of heartache behind.
Maria Couldn't believe the news last night regarding the Australian Embassy in Jakarta. I am sure your countrymen are upset over this. your pictures are just lovely, the colors are so bright. I wish our summer was starting instead of ending.
Slavika by the time I got to my :comp: today, I realized you were gone on your fun weekend. I am sure the two of you are going to have a great time without the men.
My muscles are sore today and I am following the rules :coach: DO NOT WORK THE SAME MUSCLES TWO DAYS IN A ROW. So today, I did a step aerobic class and some abs.
Time for my mocha :coffee2: .. it is going to cost me 2 points so I will savor it.

See you gals later.. :df:

All, I am taking off all next week, mainly to do NOTHING. Gonna pretend I am retired and will have teatime, sleep late, and rest. Of course, probably babysit too, but that is the fun part of life.

Just had a thought about your honeymooners, Ann. They are the only people I know who can say the earth (the trees, the houses, etc) really did move for them (and many others) on their honeymoon. Their love must be strong.

Ann it was good to come here and find that you are ok. No more damage is a good thing. I had decided if you didn't post today I was going to call. Have not wanted to bother you just in case you got hit for more damage. We are leaving early Sunday morning. If Ivan hits I'll not be here to watch this time around. I keep hearing how this never happens. I beginning to worry about snow in the winter now . I think I have seen more rain in the last month than I ever have before. Well maybe it did rain like that in Panama but I was 13 then and can't remember that far back.

I'll check in again tomorrow.

PS:

Question do you know if a ceral that has 1 gram of sugar could be core?
I will call the 800 number monday. But thought you might know. I found one at TJ's that was 90 Cal 0 fat 8 fiber and 1 sugar. Most every thing else you pick up is 6 or more and they never clarified this.

Hi everyone: Here it is September 11th, and there have been some great remembrances for us to see. I think of the slogan 'Lest we forget'

Now for our adventure. At least we will be more prepared if we have to go again. On Saturday afternoon the four of us started out with two cars, Didn't want to leave any home in case we lost our carport. We had blankets pillows, air mattress, card table, chairs, food cooler and each of us had a bag with our personal stuff, like toothbrush, face cloth and towel, etc. Bottled water, cards, and reading material. Once we staked out our spot on the floor, and got all set up, then we just waited. But we had to be there early, because if one waits until things start, then it is too late.

We played cards, read, visited with other people, took our dog for a walk outside. She was very good, The best dog in the place. didn't bark once, and I can't say that about some of the others. Our honeymoon couple went out and bought personal pizzas for each of us. The folks in charge of the shelter also made an enormous pot of veggie soup, so each person who wanted some had a bowl of it. There was enough left for Sunday noon. So you can guess how much she made. There were nearly 200 people there at it's height. This was in the gymnasium of our church school.

When it came time for lights out, that was sort of a joke. Everything was dim, but some of the kids who had been drinking lots of Mountain Dew - high caffiene- couldn't sleep, so they were up and running around, and parents didn't do much to keep them down and quiet. Some people had portable small T.V's and kept them running all night, and not everyone turned the sound down. There was one man way down at the other end of the gym from us who snored so loud it practically rattled the rafters. Never ever heard anyone snore like that.:yikes: About 2:00a.m. we all got giggling, as it was so ridiculous. Then a couple of older ladies next to us, lost the air in their mattress, down to the floor, so they got out their pump, which was a noisy hair dryer, to re-inflate. All the time they are laughing as they figured they were'nt making any more noise than the snorer.

Our honeymooners were sleeping on a couple of lawn lounge chairs, but they didn't do much sleeping. I think Chris (husband and DH 2nd cousin) was up most of the night watching everything that was going on all around. He laughed about a really big lady on the other side of us, sneaking cornchips in the middle of the night. I think he had fun watching.

About 2:30 someone walked by the barker dogs, and they set up a din. So as you can see - never a dull moment. Sunday a.m. people were quiet, and the kids who were up most of the night were sleeping. They didn't turn the lights up until nearly noon. We did have a church service upstairs in the same building about 11:00a.m.

We munched on our sandwiches, hardboiled eggs, soup, and rested or napped most of the day. They made spaghetti for everyone who wanted it, with fruit, and some bread. So we didn't go hungry.Things began to get calmer about 5:00p.m. Sunday, and we decided that the worst was over so we came home. To no power. But at least it was dark and even with the wind and rain, fairly quiet in comparison.

Originally, our honeymooners were supposed to fly out on Friday at 12:50 but the airport closed at 12:00, so canceled. So they had no choice but to see it through with us. Then they had reservations for Mon. Cancelled, but they did manage to get a flight on Tuesday a.m.

As you can no doubt tell, we had an EXPERIENCE. Don't want to have to repeat it, but if Ivan the Terrible does come this way, that is where we'll be once again. At least there are friends around, you can't hear what is happening outside, and you are safe. Not all bad.

Karen: Where are you going? I think that driving in the great traffic, would be more stressful for me than staying here and doing the shelter thing. I have heard that in so many instances this whole thing, has brought out the best in people but has also brought out the worst in others, and it mostly seems to be connected to cars, or the telephone where the people that are being called can only take messages, etc. and they don't deserve to be yelled at.

Hope you all have a nice weekend. Not sure when I'll get back, since we are watching Ivan. God bless, and keep the prayers coming our way. Ann

G'day all,

Thank you Ann for telling us about your experience in the shelter.
I thought it was very funny but I guess not quite so funny if you were there or if you have to do it again if Ivan decides to pay you a visit!
I cannot imagine anyone having any sleep with TV's going, air mattrasses deflating, person snoring, hyper kids and dogs!
The honeymooners will be re-living their experience for many years to come!

A cool day here today, we had a great time at the football yesterday, ds team won the Grand Final, the last one was won 18 years ago so you can imagine the celebrations!
DS was chosen as best player of the match, which was great.
This morning I changed my Singapore website with the photos we took at the football yesterday.

Hope you are all having a good weekend.

Cheers
Maria

G'day all,

Back again on this, my official weigh-in day!

I am very happy to report a loss of 1.2 kg :spin:

I have been doing things slightly different, using my points for fruit instead of a carbohydrate food of equal points.
I have also tried to limit 'bad' carbs after midday. Being on my own during the week, I have a stir fry everynight consisting of a little meat and HEAPS of veggies.
Who knows if that is the difference in the substantial loss this week.

Busy day.....talk to you later.....

Cheers
Maria

Starting weight: 94.9 kg :(
goal weight: 72 kg :cloud9:
todays weight 85.4 kg :encore:
1.2kg from last week :goodscale

Hello Everybody :)

I was going to start a new thread and do you think I remember how.......YIKES, maybe Maria you could remind me.
Maria your garden looks so pretty with all the flowers in bloom. Congrats on the GREAT weight loss of 2.6# well done!! :high: :cheer:
Tomorrow I go to Weight Watchers and hope I have a good loss. Being at the lake this weekend with my friend I had to be careful not to get into the snacking. The weather wasn't very good so we spent the time indoors watching movies, playing games and talking. We have been friends for over 30 years and STILL we find lots to talk about.
Ann thanks for sharing your experiences at the shelter. I can see that trying to get any sleep would have been almost impossible, but it kept everybody safe including the fur-faced members of the family. :)
Lily it seems like such a small amount of sugar......but our Leader didn't mention anything like that....she just read the literature on the program and that said "no sweetened cereal". I will ask her tomorrow when I am there and let you know....maybe by then you will have the information too and could share it with us.
Karen after you stocked your freezer so nicely did you lose a lot of the stuff?
I have forgotten if you were without power like Ann?
Trudy has a computer problem so she will be off line for awhile. I don't think she is too impressed with Windows XP Professional. :(
Glenda I hope that you have thoroughly relaxing week and only "move" if you want to. LOL LOL :D
Talk to you all soon, and hope that Hurricane Ivan doesn't come near any of you. :)

We are all heaving a sigh of relief here in Central Fl. as Ivan seems to have deserted us. I'm sorry for the folks along the gulf coast and the Fl panhandle, but I'm not sure if the mental health of Central Floridians could have stood much more.

About the only thing one could do in our shelter experience, was to find the funny side and laugh. Otherwise it would have been too easy to be come an old grouch.

The busy season is starting up again. I am helping with the choir at our church and our first practice for Christmas is tonight. Also am in a womens Bible study, which meets on Tuesday nights. Soon I'll have to start rehearsals with our chorus here in the park. I haven't even thought about what we are going to sing - just that it will be Christmas music. But all the prez. worries are on someone elses shoulders, and I am very happy for that. And she is doing a really good job.

A friend gave me a recipe for Protein Power Soup, and I am making it today. It is supposed to help in weight loss. So we will see. For a week you eat a sensible breakfast, low in Carbs, and then for the other two meals you have 2cup servings of the soup. You can also have a couple of snacks during the day, is you feel hungry. I thought maybe that would give me a jump start before I get back to WW. I am not happy with what I have gained and would like to get the metabolism working again. Time will tell, I guess. All the 'Hurricane snacking' hasn't helped at all.

Slavika: Sounds like you and your friend had a nice weekend. Sorry Trudy is having problems with her computer. I go to KimKomando.com for computer questions. She is answering a lot of questions about EX.P.I think there seem to be a lot of difficulties with that program.

Glenda: have a lovely week off.

Maria: Congrats on the weight loss. You are doing something right. Isn't is tough to have to change everything one has always eaten, and know that y ou have to basically stay that way for the rest of your days. Once in a while I just have to have some Peanut MMs. Bad, I know, but that is just my necessary evil, I guess.

My soup smells really good. I hope it will do the jump start and let me lose a bit. I'll let you know. 'See' you later. Ann
