View Full Version : NSVs for September

I thought I'd try to make myself feel better (or possibly worse) by trying on some clothes I couldn't fit into at the beginning of the summer. I tried on a pair of Gap shorts in a size 10 that I bought while on vacation because they were cheap. They are my weight loss gauge shorts. Well, to my surprise, I got them up, buttoned and zipped, no problem. They're too tight in the butt, and too short for me to wear in public even when they become loose enough to wear, but I am so happy that I could fit into a size 10. :)

Shelia... That is totally AWESOME!! I am so sure that in just a few more weeks or even days, they will fit beautifully! You are a wonderful inspiration!!

09-03-2004, 12:33 AM
Well, darn it, I posted and something happened and my post was lost in cyberspace somewhere. So, here I go again.

Sheila, you should be so proud of yourself. A size 10 is amazing! You are getting so slim. Gretchen too!! Last time I was in that size was 9th grade. I am so looking forward to being where you two are at. You give me hope. Thank you for that.

Here is mine. I noticed that my bras were starting to get a little big. To my surprise I have went from a 42D to a 40C. That pleases me since I really wanted to be a C cup. I hope I don't go down any further but if I do there is not a whole lot I can do about it. I've not been in this bra size since junior high. Also, I don't have any major sagging going on. I was a little worried that I might but so far so good. Who's to say that later on it will happen but for now I'm happy with how they are looking. Ok, enough about my boobs. :)

09-03-2004, 01:07 AM
Well, Tammy, at least it's a non-scale victory! I'm very happy for your loss. And here's to no droopage! :high: Very inspiring.

09-03-2004, 01:19 AM
Yes, great boobies are inspiring if I do say so myself. Now, as for my inner thigh that's not very inspiring. Throw me some inspiration would ya Sarah.

09-03-2004, 12:45 PM
WTG Shelia. That is so awesome--I can't remember when I wore 10s ever. I agree that you are an inspiration to us all.

Tammy--I've gone down in that department as well just not sure how much.

As for me, I walked 2 miles last night.

09-03-2004, 07:45 PM
Sheila - you must feel fantastic being in a size 10....congratulations, you've worked really hard, and you deserve it!

Tammy - LOL, you enjoy those non-saggy boobs, girl! Me, I've gone from a 40 JJ to a 32 G......I could not believe it when I got into a 32....as to the cup size, well, smaller would be better, but I don't think thats gonna happen.....the women in my family are large-chested, so I'lle just have to grin and bear it!

My NSV is really a late August one, but what the ****....I went to a party and saw friends I hadn't seen in six months or so....and some of them more than 18 months.....EVERYONE told me I looked fantastic.....I mean, it was embarassing, all those compliments flying about. Made me feel great, tho!

09-05-2004, 03:45 AM
my nsv for the last several months happened a few nights ago.
my mom took me shopping and i got this really cute pair of capri pants.
they are a size large (12/14) and they fit!!! they are stretchy but i dont care. they fit!!!! LOL normally i buy about an 18 or 20 and by the time
i wear them a few times they look like i'm wearing a balloon so i decided to go smaller
and that just happens to be the size that was there so i decided what the heck.

congrats on the shrinking boobs you guys!!! that's just awesome! i can't wait to get this weight back off so i can have normal sized boobs again. right now i'm a 42 DDD... but that's after i put those 24 pounds back on.

sheila a size 10 is wonderful!!!

Well done girls! I love reading NSVs, and getting them too, as they take attention away from the blasted scale, and also they promote positive feelings and self-confidence.

My latest one is that I have found a class at my gym that I really love (tried yoga, it just wasn't for me). It's called 'sleek physique' and is a mix of step, aerobics with hand weights and abs work.

I'm always shattered by the end of it, but the instructor is great and really keeps the class working hard.

As I really hate exercise machines, (so far have just been swimming daily) I'm really pleased to have found a strength/cardio class I can go to twice a week - just off in a minute..on a Sunday!! (previously unheard of lol)

09-05-2004, 12:14 PM
Sheila, congratulations! Size 10 must seem like a dream.

Tammy, LOL, you are a riot. But it IS a victory... big boobs are a sag (uh, i mean drag  ).

Dawnyal, 2 miles, yay! These boots were made for walkin', right?

Shelley, congratulations! You should be proud.

Katey, great job on finding a fun class! And Sunday exercise in itself is a huuuge victory, isn't it? :-D

I don't know why but I usually seem to miss this thread - but it's really great to see all these small victories!

Tammy - I hear you on the boob thing! Wow, the weight is really dropping off you!

Claire - 32G ? wow, your back must be really slim! It must have felt GREAT to have all those compliments, you deserve them!

Dawnyal - 2 miles is great - well done!

Katey - good for you on finding an exercise that you enjoy - it will make such a difference to your weight loss!

Shelly - Congrats on the smaller pants! it's what it's all about isn't it! ;)

Sheila - you have lost soooo much weight and are getting close to your target now! Size 10? That is amazing

I suppose my nsv is similar to Katey's - I've discovered an exercise that I REALLY enjoy and actually look forward to doing! :yikes: It is swimming! I put off going for years because of the whole swimming costume thing - but i finally went about 6 weeks ago, and now there is no stopping me! With all other exercise there has been an element of forcing myself to go, knowing that i will feel great afterwards, but with swimming I can't wait to go, and I miss it on the days I don't go! So I'm really happy that I've finally got the exercise part sorted, and the calorie counting seems to be agreeing with me, so for the first time in my life, I'm actually thinking 'hey, I can really do this!' Now that really is a victory! :hat:

Hey Amanda

Just want to say I am totally with you on the swimming thing! I love it - and I really miss it if I don't go for a few days.....there's something about being in the water, and the rythym of the strokes which I find really stress-relieving. I often go first thing in the morning, and swim for half an hour, and use the time to think about the day ahead, plan for it etc......so Enjoy!

09-06-2004, 01:55 PM
Amanda and Claire, I totally agree with you about swimming, I go before work and have a swim for half an hour, and it sets me up for the day.. it's so relaxing, doesn't feel like exercise at all!

Amanda, if you've discovered you love swimming I'd recommend doing an aqua aerobics class too if they offer them. I put off going to aerobics for ages, because I was self conscious about leaping around in a roomful of people, but with aqua aerobics, your body is mostly underwater, so I didn't find it embarrassing at all.

And it's so much fun, and gentle on the body too because the water gives support.

09-06-2004, 04:41 PM
I love my water aerobics class, too. Don't you find that the resistance gives you a lot better workout than land aerobics? My instructor does HIIT, which I find a lot of fun, but I feel like a limp dishrag after I get out of the water. A good feeling, however. :)

09-07-2004, 03:14 PM
I know, it's amazing really. I'm always surprised at how tired I am after a class, because when I'm actually in the water, it doesn't feel too hard.

My pool does do an aqua-aerobics class, but it finishes at 9.30pm which is too late for me to walk back on my own, as I have to go down some very isolated footpaths to get there and back.

I do a few leg raises in the pool as that is the only thing i can remember from when I used to go about 10 years ago - but I get a few funny looks!

My partner is unwell at the moment and doesn't go out much, but when he is better maybe I'll try to persuade him to walk me there and back!

Amanda x

09-08-2004, 02:18 PM
You could also try jogging a few lengths of the pool too (don't worry about funny looks, to each their own!!)

I've got another NSV, me and DP were out shopping, and he said I don't waddle when I walk anymore, I strut...STRUT!!!

I certainly didn't realise I was doing it

Amanda Panda
09-09-2004, 12:38 PM
hey Katey!

I'd be strutting too if I'd lost 53lb!! ;)

It's really good for me to know that both you and Claire, who are both avid swimmers have both lost really significant amounts of weight - it gives me real hope that if I keep doing what I am doing, then the weight WILL come off.

I went swimming today again - might try the jogging next time!

Just keep at it Amanda, if you eat healthily and exercise you will lose weight and get fitter.
Swimming for me is something I enjoy, which is probably why I've been doing it so often, and it has helped me on my weight-loss plan.

It's a bit of a cliche, but a true one I think, that if you enjoy something, then you are likely to stick at it.

09-11-2004, 11:55 AM
She's right, Amanda! Swimming and pilates are the exercise things I enjoy most......and I find swimming the easiest thing to build into my daily routine - if I don't go for a couple of days, I really notice. As Katy says - eat healthily, do exercise that you enjoy, and you will lose the weight.....not quite as easy as it sounds, I know, but just keep plugging away and it will happen!

09-12-2004, 11:57 PM
I am so proud of you guys!!! WOW!

I am buying size 12 that fit comfortably, even in jeans. I am totally happy with that.

The real NSV I had was over vacation. Walking in the morning with my mother in law (They met us on vacation 1/2 way through). She is a size 4 in shape woman let me tell you. We went walking and I am a really brisk high intensity walker (Which before, I could barely walk half fast). She kept telling me she could barely keep up with me! She could not believe the endurance level change since I lost weight and she told me that I am really looking fit! What a compliment. That made my day!

09-13-2004, 01:37 PM
Well done Gretchen, that must have felt great. It's little things like that, which are unexpected compared to fitting into smaller clothes, that make you realise how far you've come.

09-13-2004, 04:54 PM
I have a small NSV. Today when I tried my Leslie Dvd again, i got to 15 mins and to the 3/4th of a mile mark! At 17 mins she starts the cool down, so I am hoping that by the end of the week, I can do the whole thing,.. if not this week, then definitely next week,..whoohoo. Remember when i started on Aug 12 i could barely do 5-6 mins? :-) Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

09-27-2004, 04:49 PM
Since I didn't see any movement on the scale this week, I thought I'd post something here to bring it back up to the front! :)

I had a nice NSV today. I was looking through my old fall clothes for something to wear to the office this week, and I tried on this shirt I wore a lot last fall. The second I looked in the mirror, I started laughing (and almost crying!). The very shirt that was tight through the arms and bust last year was just HANGING on me. In fact, what used to be three-quarter length sleeves somehow seemed to have morphed into extra-long full-length sleeves!

It felt good, let me tell you. I used to say my big hammy arms were one of my least favorite parts of my body, and strangely, they've been one of the first things to go.

Next step: just a few items of clothing that aren't sack-like (don't want to get too much, because I plan on shrinking some more!)

09-27-2004, 05:05 PM
I don't have a NSV just yet...but I just want to say CONGRATS to all of you!!! You are doing a terriffic job!!!!

09-27-2004, 05:13 PM
I agree, very impressive everyone! I've gone down a size in trousers.

09-27-2004, 11:27 PM
Yay! I love NSVs! Great job everyone! I have 2 amazing NSVs this month. Today I actually wore, for the first time since junior high school, SIZE 9 JUNIORS LEVIS 519 JEANS....

I **heart** Stairmaster!

09-27-2004, 11:45 PM
(1) I'm in a size 16 pants most of the time now (sometimes an 18 is better, but more often than not it's a 16!) (Down from a 26/28.)
(2) I bought two size 14/16 knit tops, thinking at $6.00 they're too good to pass up, and eventually I'll be able to wear them. I didn't try them on at the store, and when I got home I was SO EXCITED to find that they fit perfectly!! I swear they don't even fit snugly! :dizzy:
(3) I got scared witless (and then jumped up and down joyfully) when my diamond commitment ring literally fell off my finger 3 days ago. (Guess I shouldn't put off resizing it any longer!)

09-28-2004, 02:08 PM
Congratulations, everyone! What wonderful NSVs! It's always so much fun to buy something knowing that sometime it will fit, then discovering it fits right now.

Speaking from experience, Sarah, you will need to resize a couple more times. I resized once already after I lost my wedding ring (and luckily found it in the lining of my DHs coat pocket three weeks later), then it fell off again about three months later. Now it's in a drawer waiting until the day I hit goal.

09-28-2004, 08:01 PM
Congrats Sarah! Those are great NSVs. I know how it feels to have your ring fall off. Mine kept falling off at work - I talk with my hands and kept flinging it across the room by accident. Have it sized so it's pretty tight. A month after I had my ring resized I had to do it again.

09-28-2004, 10:55 PM
Some recent NSVs for me are...

1) Putting one of my favorite jeans into the "give away" pile (*sniff*), they used to be really tight on me.
2) Wearing a pair of jeans I couldn't fit over my butt a few months ago and them being actually a little loose!
3) Buying a pair of XL exercise pants and them fitting along with buying an XL hoodie for wearing to the gym on colder days
4) Doing 25 minutes on the elliptical
5) Doing lots of jumping jacks and other high intensity cardio activities during an exercise class (this one happened today and made me so happy)

That is all I can think of for now

09-29-2004, 01:29 AM
I have some small victories, not as great as the rest of you , but im geting there.

1): was looking over my exercise calender and I have walked the equivalent of 11.5 miles, which is alot for me, since before, I didnt move around at all!
2): I still have fat everywhere else, but my leg muscles are rock hard,..whoohoo! Its just a matter of time before I get muscles other places too.
3): This weekend, when hubby and I were setting up my candle booth, he made a comment, that I didnt have to sit down as much and he thought my endurance was much better! Of course i had terrible headache and chest pains and after we got home, i ate a low fat subway sandwich and felt much better. I think the greasy fries at the fall festival actually upset my body, which just blows my mind!
4): I'm not sure yet, but I think my face is actually getting thinner, seems like I can feel more "bones" in my face, but it may just be me, being optimistic,..
5): I asked mom my to get me a cold bottle of water at the fall festival, since she was going for soda. She looks at me like I am crazy and says " you sure you dont want a soda?" and i said happily,"nope, get me water!" I have had no soda since aug 11:-) I only miss it once in a blue moon, but for the most part, I dont miss it.

Yay for us!!!

09-29-2004, 06:38 AM
yesterday i noticed the beginning of teeny tiny baby lumps forming on my biceps!!!! i think i'm starting to get muscles!!!!

09-29-2004, 07:26 PM
I was going to be late for an important meeting today......I ran twice to make the trains I needed to catch.........and didn't get out of breath.......that felt so great!
