I'm back to my wicked old ways of waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to get back to sleep. :dz:
I'm thinking a cup of regular coffee is in my very near future.
I did really well yesterday...not perfect, but good enough that I'm down one of the 5 pounds that I'd gained from my all time low. :) Thank you to those who gave encouragement! Much, much appreciated.
I'm hoping that today will be just as good.
Hope you all have a great day on the Beach! Look out for those sharks...Did you hear about the Aussie guy who got attacked this week? :yikes:

Good morning, Mamacita, and chicks to come.
Whew, yesterday was a day of posting! I can't possibly repond to everyone! Darn wrist is extra sore this morning for some reason. The doc says to expect pain for 3-4 weeks as it heals. The splint is hot and my skeeter bites underneath are itch! :( Crab! Crab! Crab! Whine! Whine!
½ the Hyper Pypers dropped in last night. It seems that every time Glen has a tiff with Margo, he and his son John come for a visit. They did not bring Lucy's sister, Bailey, so the visit was not too insane! Hersh and Lucy adore the Pypers. Luckily we didn't have any beer in the house or Glen would still be here! Glen wanted to take me out for a boat ride in his new super-powered boat. I sure don't want to be bumped around so was able to use the wrist as an excuse.
This morning I am off to the Library (after an undulgent bath). The window guys are supposed to come after lunch but I suspect they'll be delayed until tomorrow. Moël cut down hydrangeas to clear paths into the windows. What a growth of them! I made bouquets for the neighbours with orange lilies and purple Creeping Bellflower but there is still a wagonload to be composted.
The tub is full so I'm outta here!
By the way, you'll notice I am not commenting on being on or off Programme. I was attacked by a butterscotch sundae at teh DQ yesterday afternoon. Not my fault! Sarah insisted on treating me after I drove her to her interview!
How is your day shaping up? :cofdate:

Morning Mama and Ruth!
Just rolled out of bed myself, today was supposed to be a "Mommy" Day with DD at preschool, but she was running a fever for the good part of yesterday. She seems fine this morning, but needs to be fever free for 24 hours, so no go! Oh well...... I have really gotten to enjoy my Tuesdays and Thursdays this summer. Sadly, summer is coming to a quick close as I go back to school on the 28th. :(
Have meals planned for the week, just need to make it to the grocery store. Fortunately I have chicken breast and salmon already in my freezer, so the bill shouldn't reach insane heights. I am trying a few new recipes in addition to our household favorite- Taco Bake. :chef:
I have my annual exam with my OBGYN today- always fun! I am curious to see what my weight is on an "official" doctor's scale and compare it to this time last year.
Have a fabulous day! :flow2:

Mamacita, I've got all kinds of drugs here I can mail you that will send you right off to sleep.
I hope you get back on track with your sleeping soon... bad sleep patterns can be so difficult to break.
And congratulations on the pound! :hat:
Oh, Ruth. :( You and your poor wrist. You're not a complainer, so I know it must be really bad. Hugs for you and dear Harry... :grouphug:
Karen, I'm glad your little love is better. It's so frightening when our children are ill.
I hope your exam goes well!
I'm going to Mom and Dad's today. Someone from palliative care is going over to assess Dad for pain management.
I'm going to load up my car with some more stuff for their place in the city. They should be moving into the city in about two weeks, which'll make it much easier on my sister and I in terms of driving. Right now it's a 40 minute drive out to their place in the country. Not that I resent the drive, but it'll be nice just to walk a few blocks to their new place.
Oh! I went to my second OA meeting last night. It was great! I'm right back on track again. :) I've lost two of the four pounds I packed on at the cottage. :hat:
Have a great day, girls! Love and hugs to all... :grouphug:

Morning Mama, Ruth and Kiko, and the rest of the sleepy heads. What a great day again today it must be a record to have two sunny days in a row and hot as well. My dad just left with my youngest daughter they are off to the driving range and then a day of golfing she is so excited. She has been dying to learn how to golf and I can't so Grampie is the teacher.
Ruth- you are such a wonderful person making bouquets for your neighbours. I am sorry that your wrist is still hurting and then to have itchy bug bites as well you must be going insane.
Mama- sorry to hear that you are not sleeping well are you feeling a little bit like this  this morning. I hate it when I don't sleep I end up being really witchy my family just stays out of my way. Hope you sleep better today. Congrats on the pound. Wish I could get my butt back on track.
Kiko- Glad you wee one is feeling better. But sorry to hear you lost you mommy day. They are so important to have, we really don't get as many as we deserve. I wish I would take the time to plan for the week. I really need to sit down and make myself do that.
Well I must go and try to acomplish something today. :^: Well chicks have a great day.

Hey Ellis we were posting at the same time. Hugs to your family when you see them today. Look at the drive as a little me time. Play some calming music and enjoy the time. Take care. Glad to hear that you are back on track. Come on down and give me a kick in the @$$.

Good morning all! It's shaping up to be another HOT, HUMID south Georgia summer day :hot: --I think DS and I will be spending much of it at the pool!
Well, Day 1, Phase 1 is history and I survived! Even walked past a pan of brownies on the kitchen counter without looking back :cp: (although, they seem to be calling my name this morning--maybe my DS and his buddies would like them for breakfast--I'm such a good mother!) Also, started a run/walk program last night--30 minutes on the local park trail!
Question about a product you may know about: Coca-Cola makes a drink called Minute Maid Light--it's a juice drink, different flavors...i prefer the lemonade. Anyway, it's 5 calories, no sugar, 1 carb. I know I can't drink this all day, every day but occasionally I just need something a little sweet and this seems to do the trick. What do you guys think? :crossed:
Here's to another glorious day of just being alive!! :flow2:

Good morning, ladies!
Not much to say today - my boss is back from vacation, and there is lots to do.
I bullied DH into going to the dentist yesterday - he broke his upper bridge about a year ago, and, being a strong-minded man who doesn't like dentists, he let us live with "old toothless" for the past year. I finally told him that I hated living with an old man who looked like that! I do understand about the pain, but I didn't think this could be good for him. The dentist says he has a raging infection in there, and has put him on antibiotics, so he is going to feel much better, as well as being back to his handsome self. MEN! I'm far too vain to not take care of my teeth.
Kid's coming home on Friday. I can hardly wait - the house is so quiet, I hate it.

Hi everyone
Well, what is going on here today? Not much. I made the GLORIOUS Ethiopian Chicken recipe for supper last night....I even dreamed about that recipe last week (I dreamed that I added half a jar of marmalade to the pot and it was fantastic, and a chef who was there congratulated me on my culinary creativity.....)
Went to starbucks today and had soy milk iced chai tea. I was happy with it until I became suspicious of how sweet it was and sneaked a look at the carton....they use sweetened soy milk! Sweetened with apple juice!! Grrr. No wonder it was tasty. Now I have to detox off of that.
Ruth, I hope your arm gets better soon. It sounds horribly painful.
bye for now everyone

Ruth - Sorry to hear your wrist is bothering you so much. We'll make sure to welcome the many newcomers so you can concentrate your posts on the questions we can't answer. You need to rest that wrist.
Karen - Sorry about your daughter. I know my son got sick less often as he got older so hopefully your daughter will be the same way. You mention school. Are you a teacher?
I tried a wonderful recipe last night with swordfish, shrimp, Rotel tomatoes and whole wheat egg noodles. I WILL find time to post it soon as well as the salmon recipe since some don't have the cookbook.

Good morning, everyone! :sunny:
Mamacita: so sorry about your sleeping troubles! That can be so hard! Congrats on your pound lost! :high:
Ruth: your poor wrist! :grouphug: I'm sending lots of healing prayers your way. Hope you can feel better soon. Mosquitos! My arch enemies! The one thing I have found that truly helps with the darn bites is ice! I wonder if you can stick a few ice chips under your splint? ;) You are a sweetheart to make bouquets for your neighbors. I bet they were glorious! :D
Kiko, glad your daughter is feeling better, sorry about the Mommy day, though. What classes will you be taking? Good luck at the OB/GYN!
Ellis, you're making me jealous! ;) I have to skip OA tonight to do Vacation Bible School...so glad you are enjoying it, though. :grouphug: I really hope the care people can assist your dad with pain management. He (and you) are in my prayers. It will be so nice when you can just pop over and visit with your dad! What a blessing you are to help with all the moving and painting!
BBQ Skewer (Little Chick): I'm sure you don't need any kicks! Good for your DD to learn to golf...I have no idea how!
Wendy, you are a :queen: for denying those brownies! Good for you! :goodvibes: :high: I fully agree with using boys as trash compactors for non OP food! It's a good thing! The Minute Maid Light is probably fine, just treat it like Crystal Light...no more than 2 glasses a day count as part of your water intake. (You can drink more, just don't count is as part of your water for the day). Also, the calories count towards your sweet treat total for the day (75 cals).
Sue, did he tell you it was "just a sprain"? Men! They are so afraid of doctors! Glad he's getting it taken care of. My boss is back to...so less time on the boards for me!
Clovey, don't you hate it when sugar sneaks into your food and you are trying so hard to be good??? *grrrrr* I bet it will do less damage than you think. Just throw some protein into the the next meal to make sure. How's the cottage hunting/buying going?
We had the Chicken, Apple, and Walnut salad from the SBD cookbook, made with mayo instead of Italian dressing. I had mine in a pita, which was delicious! Very good...I recommend it! Tonight we are having the raspberry chicken salad. Should be tasty. :T
Did the first night of VBS last night. It was a blast! We have 20 kids ranging in age from Kindergarten to fourth grade. They were well behaved (for kids), and really enjoyed the craft we did. The one we are doing tonight is going to require their following my directions...not sure how well that's going to go over, but we're going to try it. Would love your prayers that I can help them do this fun craft without frustrating them!
Well, better get back to work or I'll get nothing done before lunch! ;) Have a wonderful day on the beach!

Barb Yup, I teach fifth grade in Plano. :) I cannot believe we will be going back soon. This summer has flown by! Is your son going into first grade?
Plano does have great schools. I work in Plano so many of my coworker's kids are in Plano schools. My son is going into second grade in Richardson. He turns 7 on Friday so he is young for his grade. He got into REACH last year and had a wonderful time studying different -ologies. He's been reading A to Z mysteries this summer for his summer reading. Math and science are his favorite subjects. He likes me to make out a worksheet with three digit addition and subtraction problems with carrying and we are starting on multiplication. Richardson doesn't start until Aug 19th so we still have some time left to play.

I have lazed around all morning. Did get the bed made and started some laundry. I always have good visions of things I want to do on my days off, well, today the vision is out the window. I did work in the garden last night and ate my first garden califlower, dirt and all. It was yummy. I envy you chickies that live in a warm climate. My corn is about thigh high, my cucumber plants are finally growing a bit and my tomatoes are starting to look they are on steriods. Maybe tomatoes by the first week in August.
Had a baked yam last night, pretty dang tasty. Grilled chicken breast and a salad. Ran last night for two miles and plan on doing a million situps today. OK, I'll settle for 50.
Hope you are drinking lots of water in this hot weather. We are seeing a ton of kidney stones in the ER. It's a gimmee when it's hot like this. People just don't drink enough water.
Well, girls ya'll behave or at least have fun not behaving! Do something nice for yourself....like a pedicure and toenail polish with polkadots or something. (who did that? It sounded cute)

RN Mom, how did you make that baked yam? I'm going to try it this weekend, and though I think I know what to do with baking it (prick it with a fork, then stick it in the oven), I'm not sure what you put on it when it comes out! Smart Balance and salt? Cinnamon? Sour Cream? Not sure... :chin:
I did the polka dots! :hyper: They are very fun! There are tools to make the dots that L'Oreal (or Revlon or someone) put out this summer, along with white and black polish and a bevy of other coordinating colors. I just got the tool (you could use a toothpick, though) and used my own colors. Fun!

Hi Ladies -
Another busy day on the Federal Marriage Amendment front. I am scoffing down some PIZZA [yes pizza] and thought I would post.
I am not even getting on a scale until Sunday! But I can't not eat. Did that yesterday and it hurt me in the long run [instant mashed potatoes from roomie's stash anyone?].
Huge headaches too -- Phase 1 or Work? Who knows! I need to stop stressing and go food shopping. Maybe tonight and will pre-pack my lunch. In the meantime, I need to get back to work [and the gym and to do laundry...]
I am going to have a lot of reading to do after this week is over but hope you are all doing better than I am!

Hi everyone,
Not having a good OP day but it could be worse. My husband is having a terrible time at the office, his boss had a horrible car accident and things are crazy and to top it off he's sick. I'm finally getting better, I had what he had last week and am still taking prednisone. I'm amazed that I'm doing as well as I am.
I wash the yams, poke holes in them, wrap in foil and bake until they're soft at 350. Sometimes, I'll microwave them first to get things started and finish them in the oven.
Sounds good. I need to go to the grocery store.
I love the minute maid light too. I think we can count it as our 75 calories of nonsweets.
Have a great day!

Hey all,
I don't think I can copy everyone's name like some people have, i'll just try and blanket all the subjects! Mosquito bites can be healed quicker with rubbing alcohol! It dries them out. It might sting if you've been scartching but, I'm one of those freaks who puts rubbing alcohol on open cuts. ;) (softball for life! hehe)
And Jenne, I can say stolen potatos! I can say "took packets of Easy Mac from college roomate" too.
Anyway, I had a pretty good day so far. Day 2; Phase I. I actually cooked last night! A little beef cutlet and some spinach. I had to use a little soy sauch to get the spinach down (Guess i need to work on my vegetable intake) but other than that, I was suprised I didn't burn the apartment down. I even made some for my boyfriend but I boiled him a potato....blasted spud. :dizzy:
Today I had a garden salad with a hamburger patty on it. I thought it might make eating a salad a bit easier. It was pretty good. I got Fat Free Ranch dressing and it was alright. 11 carbs but I didn't eat it all. I'm wondering what to make for dinner.
I have a question also, kind of like the Minute maid one. Is Diet Sprite okay to have? Its like 0 calories, 0 carbs, 0 sugar and some sodium..would you gals think its okay for Phase I and II?
I hope everyone has a good day!

Hi everyone!
Boy you all sound so busy!! I am lazy. I just got out of bed about an hour and a half ago!! I was up ealier to get hubby off to work at 4am!! I end up staying awake for a couple of hours then go back to bed for a while.
Day one went great. Day two on the beach is good so far. I love omlets so I have no problem with breakfast. I do miss toast though. :dizzy:
Today I have to go mow the 4 1/2 acres of lawn in our yard. It is soooo hot!! It is 97 degrees with a heat index of 105-110. Think I will take lots of breaks and drink lots of water. Fortunately we do have a riding lawn mower. Wish it would quit raining so much so the grass would quit growing so fast!!
Ruth - I understand about wrist problems. Did you break it? I broke my left wrist in November 2002 from falling down my now husbands basement stairs. I had to have a metal plate put in and all. It still bothers me after typing for a while or doing lots of things with my hands. Hope yours feels better soon.
Laurie - Are you all doing the "Son Games" for VBS like we are? We are having ours at 9 am!! I worked with crafts yesterday and will be there tomorrow and Friday. We aren't doing any of the crafts in the curriculum. We made our own.
Well, hope you all have a wonderful day at the beach. It's off to the lawn mower for me!

Glad you are doing so well.
As for the Ranch dressing, you would be better off with regular. They add a lot of sugar to the fat free kind. Regular has more fat, but only 2g of carbs.
Diet Sprite is fine. I drink Diet Pepsi and Diet Dr Pepper. Just watch how much. Make sure you are getting plenty of water as well and don't just drink soda all day.
I am making beef kabobs on the grill for dinner. I don't know why I have to wait till I am on a diet to make stuff like this! I will be having a big salad as well with it. Plus I have lots of cucumbers from my garden and put those with some onion in vinegar and water. Yummy!!
I am going to try some kind of tuna salad for lunch I think. I usually put miracle whip, mustard and pickles in my tuna. I know I can't have the miracle whip so will try something else.
Have a great day!! :dancer:

Candy, we're doing "Lava Lava Island" from Harcourt Brace for our VBS. It's a hoot! We're mostly doing the crafts from the book, but also a couple of our own, too. A couple of other churches in the area are doing it too, and it's neat to see how different each group's take on it is! What are the "Son Games" like? Sounds awesome!
Usagi, about the dressing, Candy is totally right. But for both of you, remember that we don't have to worry about the carbs. They really don't matter in things like this! It's the sugar you need to watch. You can have any dressing that meets these two requirements:
Does not have any ingredients that have the word "hydrogenated" in them
Has 3, 2, 1, or 0 grams of sugar (i.e. 3 g. or less)
Other than dairy, stay away from reduced fat items, in general, because when they take out the fat, they add....sugar! :faint: Oy! It's everywhere...Ruth just mentioned last week that they even add it to some canned beans! Craziness...
And any diet soda is fine, though you need to watch the caffeinated ones. Two servings of caffeine a day (I'm bad about this...). I love the Diet Pepsi Vanilla and the Diet Coke with Lime. They both make me feel like I'm having a dessert, and the Lime one is a great substitute for a margarita when you're eating Mexican. Not at all the same, but it makes me feel less of a longing, you know? :D

Laurie Thanks for the salad dressing info, I was actually going to ask about it today. Do we need to look at fat grams as well?

Exam was good, he is pleased with my health and weight loss progress. Grocery shopping is done, DD is down for a nap..... AHHHHH....

That's a good question, but hard, Karen! :chin: In the GFGCG, full fat (regular) dressings are "limited", whicle reduced fat are allowed. On the other hand, we are only having two Tbsp. at a time. So, I would look at the fat numbers. If they are over 6g, I would be wary and maybe look for a less fatty version. Still, if the fats are good and you are having only 2 Tbsp, it doesn't sound that bad. So use your best judgement, I think. Ruth, do you have any other ideas?

Laurie,
The SonGames are modeled after the upcoming Olympics. It is sports based. I haven't really seen the curriculum except for the crafts. I am really just a "helper". The kids seem to be enjoying it and it seems all the churches around here are doing the same one. Isn't that interesting how your churches are doing the same?
As for dressing. I am just doing Olive oil and vinegar with some Mrs. Dash spices. It is yummy!
