100 lb. Club - Non Scale Victories for July

View Full Version : Non Scale Victories for July

Wow! Hard to believe it's July already.

Today I was running around and didn't get any lunch. I went into a store with the full intention of getting a sandwich, but I started thinking about how many Weight Watcher points were in that sandwich, and I got a Kashi GoLean bar instead. I don't want to make a habit of substituting something like that for a real meal, but I was happy that I chose that over a calorie-laden sandwich.

Way to go Sheila!

Today was our last day of Day Camp at church, and the lady who took care of lunches for the team each day ordered personal pan pizzas for the team today, and asked me if I wanted one too, or a small thin crust. I just said no thanks. Ate half a bagel instead. I can usually pass up pizza, but I went to WW this morning, so I could have used that as an excuse to have the pizza, but I didn't. Knowing that I have to go on Tuesday night or Wednesday at noon before vacation.

There's that, and then the other one I have is kind of silly, but there's a guy I'm kind of interested in, and he has shown some signs of maybe being interested too. And for the first time ever, in my life I think, I haven't decided that it's totally impossible for him to be interested in me on some level.

Good job, both of you!!

I went shopping for my mom the other day and had all sorts of wild ideas of what junk food I could buy for myself while she was paying. I passed, luckily, and got a box of Matzo- even though I'm not jewish. hehe, i just really like it! It's crunchy and a huge square is only 100 calories. Most of the time when I feel like eating i relaly want the chomp chomp sound.. gum doesn't do that. I'm strange. haha. Yeah, but my victory is that I skipped over the potato chip aisle completely and only briefly considered Chex mix (my mortal enemy!)

Good luck with the guy, Daners. We have the same name! And my friends call me daners too. hahaha.

07-03-2004, 12:51 AM
djs-Dana that's awesome. The two little boys that I nanny for part time call me Daners, the five year old started it when he was learning to talk. It's the only nickname I've ever had that really stuck and I didn't mind. There are three Danas on the board now.

I have no idea what will happen with the guy, he IMed me yesterday, said we should get together when I'm in town next time. Don't want to be overly optimistic, but sounds like fun to me. Might have something to report in a week or so.

Keep up the great work, and keep posting the NSV's...every victory deserves to be celebrated!

wow! I've never known so many Dana's!!!! How cool!!

me? I'm just letting myself everyday that I don't have permission to eat like a pig since I'm now pregnant. More fruits and veggies.
I do need to drink more milk - without chocolate cake!

(who has never been called Daners!)

Dana (Charbar)--Congratulations on your pregnancy!! It's such an exciting time--I hope you enjoy the journey to motherhood. Is this your first??

I've really tried to be more aware of my decisions foodwise. Seems I often have this robotic reaction to unhealthy food. I just eat what someone offers me and don't even consider politely passing on it. It's definitely something I know I need to work on--but acknowledging the problem is half the battle, right? On a more positive note I did get out and walk for 40 minutes this morning (4:40 a.m - 5:20 a.m.). It's been so hot and humid here and I've found this is the best time to walk--relatively cool and the dog nor I get overheated. Plus it's quiet and allows me time to clear my head before taking on the day. I consider getting my butt in gear a major NSV--I've been talking about doing it long enough. Time to stop talking and start walking!

Today I went shopping and bought ALL my clothes in the Juniors Section! Yippee!

07-05-2004, 05:10 PM
I've never met so many danas either. :) Actually for the first time last semester, I had another Dana in a class with me. Never thought that would happen!!
Dana-who-has-never-been-called-Daners, congratulations on your pregnancy! Will it be your first?
Daners, the guy definitely sounds like he's interested. Good luck with that and keep us posted!
Gretchen, congratulations! I once got down to around your CW and remember the joy of the juniors section. What did you buy?

07-05-2004, 06:10 PM
Well Dana-- since you asked... :) I bought a pair of blue jeans, blue jean shorts, the hipster kind woo woo, a blue jean skirt (all size 13!!) and 2 loungy outfits!

I have gone out to restaurants several times in the last week, and each time, I ate on plan, and several times, I couldn't finish what was on my plate, and either brought it home or just sent it back (which is a huge accomplishment for me, because I've had to learn not to finish everything on my plate just cause it's there and it tastes good).

I also got into my hiphugger jeans that I bought in Houston but were way too tight before - now they fit awesome! :)

Today, for the first time in my adult life, I wore a swimming suit in public. And I actually didn't die of embarrassment, go figure. ;) This is huge for me considering I've always had and continue to have some pretty major body image issues. I spent so long hiding behind the fat and using it as an excuse to not do things I was uncomfortable with. So now I've decided that the only way I can truly be free of the burden of the excess pounds I carried for so long, is to take risks I wouldn't normally take, however small they may be, and try living this life that I've worked so hard to change. I think I really focused too much on fixing the outside during this, and now I'm trying to play catch up to heal the inside as well. Who knew how much this journey would actually entail when I first embarked on it almost two years ago.

Congrats to all of you fine ladies!!! What big accomplishments! :bravo:

But, there's 2 of you I need to address as you've done huge things this month...

Raelynn - You GO girl! Restaurants are my biggest obstacle and 80% I end up cheating... Good for you! You have willpower! :grouphug:

Beverly - I am soooooo proud of you! What a major accomplishment and you deserve a huge pat on the back! I bet it feels great now that you've taken that step.. You've come so far and have done so much! Congrats again! You amaze me every day and are a true inspiration to me! :cheer:

As for me, no NSV for July yet... but once one happens, you'll all be the first to know. ;)

I've never known so many Danas either. We could have a little club :)

This weekend I spent time at both my mom's and my dad's, both usually very hard times foodwise, and I lost! And that's even from a morning weight to an evening weight. Went to three bbq's this weekend, and was just much more careful about what and how much I put on my plate, and reminded myself of how much I want to do this.

:D YAY, I finally have a NSV!! Today DH and I went to my fav Mexican resturant for lunch. I had only 6 chips ( 1 serving)with salsa, and passed up the queso completly! Then, when I ordered, I had my usual fajitas, but I requested no sourcream, no cheese, no guac, and no refried beans!! AND...instead of diet coke like I usually have, I drank 3 big glasses of water with lemon! I nearly floated out of there! I was so proud of me!!! :D

07-07-2004, 09:49 PM
Congrats Everyone!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

07-07-2004, 09:51 PM
i just shocked myself. my mom sent me out for french fries for last minute overnight guests, and i wanted to stop by dunkin donuts on the way back. then I thought about how well I did today and how many extra calories that I don't need are in the cream, not to mention the sugar... so I told myself "I'll make green tea at home instead." yay!

edit: i stole one french fry. but i really meant it when i said "just this one."

07-07-2004, 09:56 PM
Hey Dana that's great! That really and truly is a victory. And one french fry is ok as long as you can control that! Good for you! Keep up the good work.... :)

07-07-2004, 10:58 PM
aw, thanks Gretchen! that was really nice of you. :)

07-07-2004, 11:03 PM
Alright, I've add my first July NSV - TOM is very quickly approaching (over the next couple days), and I was starving after work today... All afternoon, I debated getting pizza or just doing fast food... Then I got home, and had to run to the Mini-Food Mart next door to get an onion and I walked the chip aisle and stared at the ice cream... BUT, i didn't give in! :) I came home, made whole wheat pasta w/ extra lean spaghetti sauce and now I'm full!

07-08-2004, 06:06 AM
Way to go Celina - that's a great breakthrough. Its a strong woman who choses home-cooked pasta over pizza!

So other than my Great Shopping Triumphs......I bought a pair of size 18 (UK) jeans yesterday......and have seriously been shopping-until-I-have-been-dropping.....and really enjoying it....and mainly size 20 (UK)....lots of bright colours....my other NSV is I went to a salsa bar with some friends, and took a class last night......and loved it.....I love to dance.....sure, I was the biggest (and possibly oldest...LOL) person there, but I didn't really think about that. And I didn't get tired! In fact, one of the friends I was with got tired before I did......There is no way, 9 months ago, I could have danced that long and not got tired.....

07-08-2004, 02:03 PM
Lots of great NSVs and we're not even halfway done with the month!!!

My mom has a really pretty lavender dress either a size 22 or 24. Well after I got home from having William I tried it on, thinking that it would fit me since dresses tend to run large--NOT THIS ONE!!! I couldn't even get it to go over my hips.
So last week I was over at her house, rummaging her closet and saw this dress. I decided to try it on and low and behold it fits perfectly. It is a bit loose but if it wasn't then all my rolls would be showing. I plan on wearing it to work tomorrow and I'll try and take a pic of it if I remember.

07-08-2004, 08:17 PM
way to go Dawnyal.....and we want pictures, please!!!

07-09-2004, 12:26 AM
Dawnyal - I want pictures girlfriend!! :)

And ladies I must say, we're having a great month already (and its only the 8th), look at all the NSV's already! :bravo: to all!

07-21-2004, 06:36 PM
I have two to report (work and life have been super busy this week so I've just now had a moment)
1) I'm officially in VFT for the first time in about 8 years :smug:

2) I bought 2 pair of size 22 shorts (one pair is a bit snug) I figure if I can zip and button them in the dressing room, then they are worth buying so I've gone down about 2 1/2 sizes (I say 2 1/2 since I was busting out of my 26s when I started)

07-22-2004, 01:44 AM
Dawynal - That must have felt great! :cp: YAY FOR YOU!

My newest is that I've stuck with the gym for 2.5 weeks straight now, only missing 3 days... for proper rest of course ;) And I'm already starting to be able to increase my time a little on certain machines! :strong: Look at me go...

Had to come back and edit... I remembered a huge one from today.. We had a 3 hour meeting at work today and at the very start my manager handed out lil' bags of chocolates (including Cookies & Cream)... I let these chocolates sit in front of me for the whole meeting (almost slipped once, and the girl sitting next to me who I share office space with stopped me!), then I let them sit on my desk for the last 2 hours of my day... even brought them home.. still untouched and handed them to Steve when I was leaving for the gym and told him to eat them before I came back!!! :D I'm very proud of this... I didn't just eat them cuz they were there... and I didn't eat them at all, and I was starving!

Way to go Celina! That IS an accomplishment! Will power is something that I need to aquire...can I have some of yours? I am VERY proud of you!

07-27-2004, 11:27 PM
Had an exciting thing happen to me at the gym tonight, so I thought I'd share...
I got there and as I passed the fitness room on the way to change into my workout clothes, the good treadmills were available, and all but one of the others, the place was nearly empty.
So I change quickly and head back to the fitness room. Ugh. Every treadmill is taken, even the junky one that the whole room can hear you walk on, nevermind jogging. But there is an eliptical machine open. I hate that beast. Had never done more than 5 minutes on it. Tonight I did 3 miles, right at 30 minutes. And it felt like a much better workout on my thighs. I have tamed the eliptical beast :)

07-28-2004, 12:34 AM
Congratulations, I know how awesome that can feel. I haven't been doing the elliptical lately because of my knee injury and the fact that i enjoy weight training oh so much more. I do think it is the best cardio machine ever invented but it takes a while to build up the stamina for it.

07-28-2004, 02:30 AM

Lady - I hear ya on the Elliptical.. The first time I stepped on that thing, I wondered who the **** would invent something that could make you feel like you were dying?! However, I know have battled the eliptical beast too and can do upwards of 20 minutes. I do at least 10 mins-20 mins everytime I go to the gym.... Now, my next obstacle is the Stepper, I can't do more than 3 minutes on that tortureous machine... :dizzy:

07-28-2004, 11:56 AM

I used to FORCE myself to do 10 minutes as a "warmup," and the thingy said that I had walked 33 flights. Boy did it feel like I walked up the entire empire state buidling on spiral stairs! I HATE that evil thing! And I couldn't drag myself to do it because it got to the point that I was procrastinating going to the gym because I didn't want to do my "time" :)

What does everyone usually do for cardio?
