Default SBD and Lactose Intolerance

I am planning to start the South Beach Diet with my Mom tomorrow (we have to do a grocery shop!), but we are both lactose intolerant.

Since many of the snacks and some of the meals are based around dairy products, does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone done this who is lactose intolerant and had success?

I can eat some cheese - goats milk and sheeps milk, and drink lactose-free milk, so I am not at a total loss. I can also eat lactose-lowered yogurt - but it is mixed with fruit in a cup which seems to be a no-no on Phase 1.

Thanks for any help!

Welcome to The Beach. Dairy products are allowed but not necessary on this plan. The menus are suggestions, not orders! There are lots of other things besides dairy that can be used as snacks. Check out the Recipe section for roasted chick peas and things like hummus with veggies. Soy based products are great - they even make cheese.

Default lactose intolerant on the beach TOO!

yeah, someone else who is on the south beach who is lactose!! i am doing it, and want a friend!! anyways, i use a lot of soy based products- the cheese is really good.. and i love tofu as well.. other than that, i have been popping a whole lot of lactaid but even that is not enough- there are ways to go around it though if you cant have your dairy.. good luck! lets keep in touch and let each other know of any good recipes -milk free of course!
