You'll be sure to get a warm welcome. :) Rymsh 04-07-2001, 03:36 PM Hi everyone! How is your weekend going? We're having beautiful spring weather. This is the weekend of the Washington, D.C. Cherry Blossom Featival, and the blossoms are in full bloom right on cue. When I weighed in yesterday, I had lost 2 pounds :)- the 2 I had picked up a month or so ago and had been hanging on to. I was rather pleasantly surprised, to say the least, since my exercise ability is zero for the past 7 weeks with this back thing. Janet, it sounds like your life is a whirlwind right now! All your daughter's prom and graduation activities sound like such fun! Is your dd wearing the same gown to Tim's prom as she did to hers? I hope so, for the sake of your wallet! Post some pictures for us! Congratulations on your weight loss- you're on a real roll now, my friend! Texaslady, I hope you have a good time furniture shopping with your dd. Getting things together for a first house is such fun!!! It's also fun to shop when you can help someone else spend their money! :D How are the wedding plans coming? NJNancy, it was good to hear from you! I was beginning to think we'd lost you! That sounds like quite a powerful new computer you've ordered- should be fun! I swear, computers are almost obsolete when you take them out of the store these days! I got mine something like 3 months ago and it's 633- and now that's nothing!! Plenty for me, though, especially compared to the 264 I replaced. It's been a quiet day. I had my carpets cleaned- finally gave up on my dear sil doing it as he's promised every weekend since last August. And I put some flowers out on my patio- I think it'll stay warm enough now that it's safe. I doubt if I'll see my little sweetie this weekend- my exdh is up, so my dd doesn't need me as a babysitter- grandpa gets the nod. Well, I'd better run. Have a pleasant Palm Sunday, everyone. Carol  JanetMae 04-07-2001, 03:42 PM Hi all! Again, sorry to be gone a while; still moving stuff into the new office, and got interrupted by all kinds of things. Went to Austin yesterday to get lots of surplus computers for the school; even snagged 3 good Powerbooks! (Mac laptops). Pretty tiring, though, lugging all that stuff around. Probably earned some exercise points, though! Carol, so sorry to hear your back is giving you trouble again; hope you're feeling a little better today! We're probably posting together right now, as I just saw you start this new thread. Nancy, sounds like you're really busy, but what fun! Congrats on your ten pound ribbon; that's great. I'm like you, Wal Mart definitely has the bargains; those dresses sound lovely! Janet, my new classes start next August, and I can hardly wait! We are advertising for my replacement right now, and have an excellent candidate who might take the job; I'm keeping my fingers crossed! He'll come down here after Easter to meet with us. Congrats to your dd on those scholarships; how wonderful! JOYce, sounds like you are having a great time with your house guests! Oh, and I finally posted the soup recipe, under WW soups. I might make it again soon, but with shrimp. (Down here, lobster is expensive and hard to find.) Rebecca, congrats on your half pound loss! Liz, how did the evening with the clients go, in the city? I haven't been to NYC in so many years, I guess when my sister lived in Manhattan and I stayed with her, as a teenager. I loved every minute. What play did you see? Oh, and re: the soup, it was very easy to make, and quick! I finally posted the recipe, btw. Patti, way to go on the 2.8 pounds! Did you go to the strawberry festival today? We have one nearby, in Poteet, but I've never been to it. Good for you, having confidence that you can go there and stay OP! I know you will! Texaslady, thanks, I do love to cook, and to have people over; maybe next year I'll have more time for that, I hope! I leave this position on June 8, and will start the new job in mid-August. Right now, Sat., I'm up at school trying to catch up on some reports, and moving a few boxes into the new office. Would much rather be at the beach, though! Hi to Nancy in TC, Saara, and Kendra; hope all is well! Regards, Jan Rymsh 04-07-2001, 06:16 PM OOPS! Looks like I spelled "pounds" wrong when I started this thread! :o Sorry, guys!!! Guess you know what I meant, though! Carol gmalil 04-08-2001, 11:14 AM Good morning! What a beautiful sunshiny Palm Sunday we have in Southern Calif!!. The air is all clean from a couple days of rain. Linda called and asked that we be greeters at church this morning since she is not feeling well, so am up here egging the girls on, they hate to get up even 15 minutes early!! Just not programmed into their teenage system. We are having "Easter dinner" today for the girls, their half sister and dad, since they will leave next Sat to visit their sister. Melissa was in shock when she realized that she would not be her for Easter dinner. We need to shop tomorrow for that prom dress, so it is ready to go, when she returns..actually, the prom is not til mid-May. I weighed in yesterday, and found a few extra pounds from my company and shenanigans. We had chinese the day before WI though, and that is always good for a gain, so I figure it will come off fast. compamy is gone, and things are back to 'normal'. Jan, You must be very excited to get back into your classroom! How exciting! Where do you get lemongrass for the soup? Carol, get some rest while grandpa is doing the babysitting, I know it must be hard for you to share, but it is good for your back! I must get going and get that ham in the oven, and get to church!! Have a great day!! ~~~~~~~ JOYce JanetMae 04-08-2001, 03:05 PM JOYce, sounds like you have a busy day planned! And thanks, yes, I'm really looking forward to teaching again; it's where my heart is. Re: the lemon grass, I grow it in my garden, but you can also get it in the fresh herbs section at some groceries. Sorry to hear about your small gain, but you're probably right, some of that could be from the salt in the Chinese food. I know you'll take it right back off, though! Remember to drink lots of water! Carol, we were posting at the same time yesterday, so I didn't get to tell you *kudos* on losing two pounds! :) That's terrific! And I know it's especially hard to do that when you can't exercise, so you must have been following program really well. How's the back feeling today? Hope you were able to get some rest over the weekend. It's a lovely day here in Texas, maybe a bit hot. DH and I walked a couple of miles at the school track this morning, then I played piano at church, and am back in my office again doing paperwork. Ick. Saara, are you through with your statistics class now? How is your summer shaping up? Hi to Texaslady, Janet, Liz, Rebecca, Nancy, Nancy in TC, Kendra, and Patti; hope your weekend is going great! What does everyone plan to do for Easter weekend? Regards, Jan Rymsh 04-08-2001, 03:42 PM Hi all! I hope everyone is having a pleasant Sunday. We've got sunshine this afternoon, but the temps are only in the mid 50's instead of the upper 70's as forecast. I don't know about these weather persons sometimes! :?: Jan, my back is still pretty "iffy"- it's ok till I walk more than a few yards. I have been taking it easy- nothing else to do anyhow! :) I've had a pretty bad cold since Friday also, compliments of a coworker, so that was good incentive to stay put and rest my back. This body of mine is just falling apart these days! It sounds like you and dh had a nice weekend. How's your dear dad doing? Please give him my regards. I'm going to my dd's for Easter dinner- I offered to cook, but she wants to, which doesn't exactly break my heart! :D Joyce, chinese food is a trigger and a point buster for me! I love the stuff and lose all self control! But as Jan said, it is loaded with sodium, so I'm sure you'll make up for the slight gain in no time. I hope Linda is feeling better- tell her to stop in one of these days and let us know what she's up to! Hi Janet,Saara,Texaslady,Nancy x2, Liz, Kendra- did I miss anyone? Have a good op Monday, everyone. Carol NawlinsLady 04-09-2001, 11:35 AM Hi Girls! It is finally warm here and I love it!!! I am still staying OP, although I am a little worried about tonight's weigh in because it is that old TOM and it might throw me off a bit. Oh well, if so, I'll know it isn't anything that I did. Actually we didn't get to go to the strawberry festival, hubby had to work. But we did get to do a little shopping for graduation - shoes and stuff for DH and DS. TexasLady - yes my son's prom is May 18th and we are in full swing with the plans. We have a limo bus reserved that holds 10 couples. Boys still have alot to get - limo, tux, flowers, dinner. They also have a mass the Saturday before graduation. We got his announcements and all of that good stuff on Friday, so I need to pull out my addresses from my wedding and my sister does calligraphy and she offered to hand address them for me. And now that he actually has his classes for college scheduled he is REALLY excited about that. Janet - Thanks for the offer of the recipes. The etouffe sounds good. I'd like to see that if it is not too much trouble. I would love it if they had a low fat shrimp remoulade - but I don't know if that is possible!! Well, I'll get back on tonight or tomorrow and let you know the verdict from weigh in. I'm still soft drink and chocolate free for 5 weeks now. Stay strong everyone!!! Patti gmalil 04-09-2001, 02:39 PM Patti, I just wanted to mention that I finally decided that taking a limo is a really good and safe things for kids to do for proms and such. here n Calif, they always go so far away, down the freeways to get to the events, that I was concerned about the traffic and safety. so we all chip in, even the girls pay their share of the limo, it makes for 'peace of mind' for dear old grandma. I hope your weigh in goes well. My cold has returned with a vengence!! dh insisted that I call the doctor, (he loses sleep with my coughing at night:( ) so I have an appt for tomorrow. It has been almost 3 months since this stuff started, never totally going away. I have too many projects going to be sick!! My computer mouse 'died', I need dh to investigate the cause and solution. so am using his computer today. I'm so lucky that I am able to do that. i felt so isolated when I turned the puter on and the cursor wouldn't move! bye for now, I need to get to the post office and get some things mailed. have a great OP day, everyone. ~~~~ JOYce texaslady 04-09-2001, 03:31 PM Well, its Monday again! Phooey! Joyce - I am sorry about the demise of your mouse! I hope he can be revived - or at least replaced - soon! Its amazing how our computers have become such a big part of our lives, isn't it? Who would have thought? Did Melissa get her prom dress? Tell us about it. You need to take care of that cold - you've had it way too long now. Patti - Sounds like your graduation plans are all under control, too! Its such an exciting time for the kids. I am also sure that all our seniors are now just "marking time" til classes are over. Even I remember how I felt that senior year - just weeks before graduation - when I couldn't WAIT for the days to pass! My dd felt the same way when she was a senior in high school. They are so anxious to get on with the "rest of their lives"! Carol - Doesn't sound like you are doing just a whole heck of a lot better. But I am sure you went to work anyway. Life doesn't stop, but maybe you can slow it down a little so that you can recover! I KNOW that you are thrilled with that 2 pound loss! Congratulations. Jan - That's wonderful that you already have a "fish" on the line for your replacement. I know it will make you feel better if a qualified person can take over. You mentioned your last day was in early June and school starts in August..... does this mean you actually are going to have a couple months "off"???? If so, that's just fantastic! I know your Dad and your dh will be delighted - you, too, of course! Your soup sounds good. I didn't cook a thing this week-end, despite my good intentions! Seems I live off of sandwiches! Not good, I know, but there are worse choices! :D Nancy - good to hear from you! Congrats to you for your 10 pounds! What an excellent start! Sounds like you are in continual birthday party mode! Went shopping with dd on Saturday and she & fiance bought an armoire, curio cabinet and bookcase for the new house. They were shopping at that liquidation sale I was telling you about and just as they wrapped up their list of items, they spotted a big mirror (about 4 x 6 feet big, beveled with an oak frame) marked down to $178. They told the salesman to add it to their list of purchases, and instead he gave it to them for free since they had already gotten the other things. They were pleased as could be with their "bonus" item. We arranged for delivery of the big items but future sil was carrying the mirror out of the store when cop at the front door asked for our sales receipt. We told him the store had "given it to us" and he just laughed - until he saw the receipt & it was true! :D Will go for now. Have a good day and will check in again later. Rymsh 04-09-2001, 05:46 PM Hi everyone! Well, summer's here now! It went up to 88 degrees today! This weather is really crazy!! Patti, you're the name I forgot in my last 2 posts!!! :o I'm so sorry!!How did your weigh in go today? Big congrats for staying off the sodas and chocolate for 5 weeks!! Joyce, I'm with your dh- you need to get yourself to the doctor! That cold shouldn't be hanging on that long! You need to kick back and relax once in a while!!Sorry about your computer mouse!! We do get attached to these computers, don't we? I sent you a follow up email last week- hope you got it. I just found out that a few things I emailed to a friend of mine got lost in lala land somewhere! Texaslady, it sounds like you all had a wonderful time at the furniture liquidation, and how nice of them to give your dd and her fiance the mirror for free! This is such an exciting time for them! You're right- I did go to work- back, nasty cold and all. We've got a nurse in the hospital, another out with a cold tomorrow and this is the busy season in an allergist's office! Besides, I don't have much sick leave. The back is much better today, seriously, due to the quiet weekend. Jan, I'm curious too- will you actually get all that time off between jobs??? I sure hope so- you work much too hard, and you deserve a break!! Sounds like a good time for you and dh to take a vacation! Say hi to dh for me too, by the way! My little sweetie is just walking all over the place now- he really thinks he's hot stuff, the little !! He's actually going to need a haircut soon, too! I'd like to take him to get his picture taken again, if his little nose ever stops running!! Well, I've got to run- it's bedtime!!! Hi to everyone, and talk to you all tomorrow. Carol NawlinsLady 04-10-2001, 10:18 AM Good Morning!! Well my weigh in went fine....I lost .8....which was really good according to the girl doing the weighing. She said I really should have seen a gain with the TOM thing. I'm satisfied. So my 5 week total is 15 lbs. Just 3 more to my 10%. Maybe I can do that this week. JOYce - Oh yes......limos are good. All us nervous Moms really pushed for this limo bus. The boys didn't mind though. I think they really enjoy being in a large group anyway. Hope you get your cold cleared up. It seems like the cough is always the last symptom to hang on. TexasLady - My son knows exactly how many days he has left of school. They start exams soon and their last day is May 5th. I still can't believe my "little boy" is grown. He turned 18 on Saturday. I brought him a chocolate chip cookie cake to work at the Palace Theater. They demolished it within minutes. Wow your daughter got a good deal. The mirror sounds wonderful. I love those big mirrors. You can do so much with them. At my meeting last night our leader gave us a list of all of the popular Easter candy and the point values. I'm not a big candy eater, but if anyone wants to know any of them, just let me know. Well, I'll talk to all of you ladies soon. Keep up all of the good work - together we can all succeed!!! Patti xstitchingal 04-10-2001, 03:22 PM Good Afternoon Everybody!! Let's see what is going on around here. Nothing. Yep, that's pretty much the extent of my excitment! I did start a scrapbook that is titled, "My Weight Loss Journey". I am getting some pictures developed of me now that I have lost my 10%. I am a little nervous to see them, what if I look the same as when I began? Anyway, the scrapbook should help me at those times when I am feeling a little discouraged and will be a great "brag" book when I finally reach my goal! :D Remember when I told you guys that I got an Ab Roller? Well, I have to report that after using it for a couple of weeks now, every other day and just doing it a few times, I am seeing results. No kidding! I am actually starting to see my tummy tightening. And let me tell you something, it feels great!! I also did my measurements, and since the last time I did them (Feb. 26) I have lost 5 1/2 inches more!! WOW!! I guess sometimes it helps to see those inches when the pounds don't seem to be coming off as quickly as we would like. :) But I better go. I am also doing a scrapbook for my mom and dad with all their 30th anniversary pictures, and pictures from their trip to Hawaii in it. So I better get busy... You all have a great week and know that no matter what we are all success stories in the making!! Rebecca  saarao 04-11-2001, 08:32 AM Hi everyone! I still haven't got my pc fixed... so here I am at the univ. computer lab again. Statistics class is over, but I do have to retake the Finnish test. I still have several tests, and a few lectures. I think I'll still attend 2 courses that each last a week or so. One this month and one in May. I don't have any special summer plans, I'll just keep working at the video store and hopefully have plenty of fun... Still no news from the exchange, several other students have been offered placements, but they're still looking for a place for me. Last weekend I went to Tallinn, Estonia w/ my Dad, his wife, my 2 aunts, uncle and cousin. It was great! It's a beautiful city. We went to the ballet and saw Romeo and Juliet. We ate at great restaurants on both days, and really had a good time. The best thing of all for me was that my Dad paid for it all, I just got to enjoy myself. Well, I really need to get going again. I'll be working all Easter (double pay for friday, sunday and monday :) ), but I'll try to find some time to come and post more. I've missed you all! Have a good day! Saara. xstitchingal 04-11-2001, 03:38 PM Good Afternoon Everyone! Boy, I sure will be glad when summer gets here. We are having rain/snow mix right now and the wind is howling. It was sure a long drive home from my meeting. At least the roads weren't icy! I just have to share with all of you...at weigh in today, I lost 3.8! I was just as shocked as my leader. :D So I am feeling like I am on cloud nine. Maybe this time it will work, in fact, I know it will! I will succeed!!!!! But I better go get some lunch! You all have a great day!!!!! Rebecca  gmalil 04-11-2001, 03:55 PM :spin: WOO-HOO!! Rebecca! Weigh to go!! Congrats on that great loss! sorry about your yukky weather! I see that the REd river is rising again, hope that won't effect you. My daughter was in Grand Forks in the last flood, and had to move home for a couple of months. While she was here, her car was destroyed by a hailstorm in ND. It was not a good year for her! I'm sure that she is not missing ND, in view of present weather! Hopefully, my WI on Saturday will show a loss! I'm doing much better point-wise, this week. The doctor agreed that 3 months was too long to be coughing, he ordered a chest x-ray and an antibiotic. so, we shall see, what happens now. We did get Melissa's prom dress! she had shopped with a friend and came home to report that she had found the PERECT dress! when we went back to get it, she tried on 2 others, but loved her perfect 'princess' dress! It was toooo easy! She got her accessories at the same store, and we went to Penneys and found the 'perfect' shoes! I am very pleased with her choices!! (Pictures next month!) :) bye ~~~~ JOYce texaslady 04-11-2001, 05:27 PM Didn't want you guys to think I had deserted you! I just haven't had two moments together to post until now. Just wanted to say Hi and congrats to Rebecca for her fantastic loss this week!!! Hope Carol & Joyce are getting better with their ailments, too. Too many aches and pains go with those of us approaching "senior" years! :) Jan & Janet - Where are you? Gotta go and get some stuff finished up here before I get on the road back home again. Have to go pick up my income tax stuff on the way home - big yuck! :p Everyone take care. Will try to stay longer tomorrow. Rymsh 04-11-2001, 06:33 PM Hi everyone! Hope it's been a good day. Rebecca, HOORAY for you!! :D What a fantastic loss!!! What did you do differently to give you that big a drop? I'm sorry you're still having such lousy wintery weather! It'll be summer by the time you guys get spring! Are any of the flooding problems ND is having near you? Patti, congrats to you too on your loss!! That 10% is so close- you'll be there in no time! Saara, sorry your computer is still on the disabled list, but I'm glad you got a chance to check in from the school computer. I hope you hear about the exchange program soon- I know you must be anxious. Good luck on the Finnish retake! It sounds like you had a wonderful time at the ballet! And going with a family group like that made it even better, I'm sure. Wow- double time all weekend! That's great! Maybe it'll be slow and you can even catch up on some movies while earning the big bucks! Joyce, I'm so glad you went to the doctor! Let us know how the chest xray turns out. I can't wait to see the pictures of Melissa in her "perfect" outfit! What a great time she'll have! Janet, I saw on the news that there was a tornado in Warrensburg, MS- is that anywhere near you? I hope not! You've had more than your share of those! Texaslady, thanks SO much for the "senior years" wisdom! You really know how to cheer a girl up! Actually, this week I feel like I'm about 112!:)I hope your busy week slows down a little. Do you get any extra time off for the holiday? Hi to Jan, both Nancies and Liz. Kendra, are you still with us? Well, since my life this week is less than exciting and would bore y'all to death, I'll pass on passing it on and just wish you all a pleasant Thursday! Talk to you all later. Carol xstitchingal 04-12-2001, 08:45 AM Good Morning Everyone!! JOYce- No, the flooding won't really effect me, I am in South Central ND so we will have some flooding of our own, but not from the Red River. We are lucky there, but we have lots of small ponds, sloughs, etc. that will be flooding. Not as destructive as the Red River, but still bad enough. Carol- I don't know what I did differently. I really tried to stay under my high end of points this week. I really watched and made sure I did not go over. I allowed myself to go over on the weekend since I had points to spare in my bank. I dunno what I did, but I hope I can do it again. :D Took some pictures in yesterday to get developed and am rather nervous about seeing them. What if I can't see a difference? What if I look like I did before? It will make all this work seem rather pointless. I know that it sounds silly, but I would like to see a difference. Ya know? Its hard to see it when you look at the same face in the mirror everyday. Guess I will just have to wait until next week to see the results. Nothing much else here. I hope you all have a great day and a wonderful Easter!! Rebecca  JanetMae 04-12-2001, 06:38 PM Hi all! Again, sorry to be so late posting, but this has been one of those weeks. We're finally all moved in to the new office, but we've also had to help the entire administration move into their new building and get the network running for them again; lots of little glitches, but finally, all solved. Whew. Carol, so sorry to hear you're still feeling ill; and you had to work all week, no less. Do you at least get Good Friday off, so you can rest? Thanks for asking about Dad; he's doing fine, can't wait to see my other sister tomorrow. Rebecca, whooee, 3.8 pounds! That's amazing; way to go!! Hope the summer weather is just around the corner for you; I know you're getting tired of the snow and ice. But you'll have such pleasant weather in July, when we're baking down here! That's a great idea you had about the pictures; I'm sure you'll see quite a difference. JOYce, I hope that antibiotic is making you feel better already; keep us posted on what the doctor tells you re: the xray. I'm so glad you went; your dh is right, 3 months is too long. Patti, 15 pounds in five weeks is fantastic! Congrats on this week's loss, and for nixing the colas and chocolate; you are doing so well. Texaslady, glad your dd made such a good deal on the furniture! Re: time off, yes, it'll be wonderful; sometimes it seems like I live up here at school. I'm not looking forward to the surgery I'll be having over the summer, (hysterectomy), but at least I'll have plenty of time to recuperate! Maybe I'll finally have time to put a few photo albums together and learn some new software for my classes next year. Saara, what a wonderful trip your Dad treated you to! Sounds just lovely. Good news about the double pay, too! I hope you hear soon about your placement in the U.S.; sure would be wonderful if we could all plan a get-together next year. I went to my mtg Tues, and lost 2.2! Finally! I have been on such a long plateau, losing and gaining the same quarter of a pound for weeks; thought I'd never break through. Maybe lifting all these computers and boxes has helped! I never could have done that two years ago, or if I'd tried, I'd have nearly killed myself. Guess I'd better get moving; need to tidy up at Dad's house before my sister comes. His once-a-week housekeeper had to quit, and I'm desperately seeking a replacement. Oh well, at least it's more exercise! Hi to Nancy, Nancy in TC, Janet, and Kendra; have a great op weekend! Regards, Jan Rymsh 04-13-2001, 05:02 AM Good morning! Happy Friday the 13th! I'm not really superstitious, but the way the past week or 2 has been here, I'm not sure I'm ready to tempt fate! :D Rebecca, get yourself out a "before" picture (if and put it beside the new ones when they come in and I bet you'll notice a big difference!! Even so, you know by your clothes and how you feel that there's a big difference! When I had a really good week (or a bad one!), I'd look back on that journal to see exactly what I ate- sometimes I find something I was doing differently that I wasn't even aware of. I'm glad you aren't in the major flooding area! Jan, -2.2!!! That is just FANTASTIC! Omigosh!! That puts you less than 5 pounds from goal, doesn't it? You look so great- you should be really proud of yourself! We're not off for Good Friday- I work in Virginia. I'm hoping the traffic is light, both with workers and with travelers. Good luck in finding a housekeeper for your dad- you sure don't need to add that chore to your already too hectic schedule! Enjoy your sister's visit this weekend. Janet, where are you, girl?? Oh- I forgot to tell you all that I tried the "asparagus crab casserole" that was 3fc recipe of the day last Friday. It's was really good, even though I had left off the almonds and used fat free parmesan and imitation crab. It's only 4 points a serving (a little less, I guess, the way I made it). This should be a quiet wekeend. I plan to go to Trader Joe's today after work, and then to put Easter flowers on my son's grave. Saturday is catch up and errand day, since I was too sick all week to do anything but work and go to bed. Sunday my dd is cooking dinner- just the 3 of them, my exdh and me. I'm in charge of bringing dessert. Hi Texaslady,Joyce,Saara,Patti,Liz, Nancy,Nancy and Kendra. Have a wonderful Easter, everyone! Carol texaslady 04-13-2001, 08:43 AM Good Morning, everyone! TGIF! I have been so busy this week I forgot today was Friday the 13th! Oh well, I am not superstitious anyway. I have to work a half day today and on the way in this morning, I had the thought that someone had shut down the city and forgot to tell me! I drove on stretches of road and didn't see a single car! I cannot tell you HOW WEIRD that is in a city this size! But it sure was nice! Jan - I am doing the happy dance for your big loss this week! You are SO CLOSE to goal! Glad your other sister is coming for a visit - I know you AND your Dad will be thrilled to see her. Good luck on finding a housekeeper....... That would be real high on my priority list, I can tell you. When exactly are you planning on having your surgery? Carol - Have a nice relaxing week-end. You need one. I am jealous that you actually cooked something new last week-end. I just HAVE to start doing that again. I have gotten so lazy about my dinners - consequently I don't stay within my points very well. I eat way too many carbs - I do know that! Rebecca - Hang on to those before pics! I had the hardest time digging some up for the get-together we had at Jan's because I seldom allowed anyone to take pics of me 75 pounds ago. I'm a little better now - but will be much better when the rest of the weight is gone. I was once again astonished at my "befores" when I did find them........who knew I had gotten so big??? (Well, apparently everyone who ever saw me!) Saara - Wow, school is almost out for you. Congrats. Have fun working this summer and saving up all your money. I still have my fingers crossed for you to come to the States but sounds like hope is fleeting. I do really like your attitude about the whole thing - what new self-confidence you are showing! Joyce - How are you feeling now? Hope your cough is on its way outta here and that the drugs are helping. You need a restful week-end too after all your company - hope you are going to be able to have one and not have to do a lot of cooking and cleaning up. Patti - Wow, you are doing SO WELL with the program! You sound like you are in amazement yourself at how well you have done! All of us here know how well it works IF WE LET IT. Congratulations and keep on keeping on! My plans for Easter are minimal. My cousin is hosting dinner for the family on Sunday - having fajitas! Yum! Not your standard Easter fare, I guess, but we just love it! She always does something out of the ordinary, and she gets no complaints from the Peanut Gallery! Everyone have a great holiday week-end. Hi to all those who haven't checked in for a while and to anyone who might be lurking. If you are browing our thread, please come out and join us!! justliz 04-14-2001, 05:19 AM I am back and I feel like I am coming back with my tail between my legs. Congrats to Patti, Rebecca and Jan and everyone else who had such great losses this week. Whoo whoo! What a great feeling! I can't seem to stay op for more than one day at a time. I do really good and then the next day I seem to be so hungry all the time I can't get my mind off of food. I have been trying to figure out the difference between days and can't for the life of me decide what it is. I have decided that I am trying to do too much all at once. A million chores to do at home, work is of course overwhelming, and I can't seem to get anything done. And now I feel like all I do is whine when I post here. Honestly, I am not such a negative person and this feeling sorry for myself makes me feel even worse about myself.. mmmm Now that is a lightening bolt. Maybe that's the root cause. Interesting, and I'll have to think about that. In the meantime, I promise to kick myself in the butt if I start to whine again. Anyway, I need some ideas for breakfast that I can bring with me and eat at work. I am tired of the same old thing. I usually either have Kashi or Oat bran. I am trying to increase the protein and figure breakfast is a good place to start. Any suggestions? I hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend. I am going over to my brother's house. Since sil is a terrible cook shouldn't be too hard to not overeat. LOL Rymsh 04-14-2001, 06:36 AM Good morning! We are in for an absolutely beautiful weekend (or so they say!) with sunshine, blue skies and temps in the mid 60's to mid 70's :). Spring is sprung! Liz, don't get discouraged, and don't beat yourself up about it or you'll just make it worse! If you fall off, jump back on right away. You can't fail unless you stop trying. Take it one day- or one hour, or one minute- at a time! And don't worry anout "whining"- feel free. We've all been there, and we all want to help you through the tough times. You asked about portable breakfast stuff. I like to mis Kashi with FF yogurt (I love Dannon's ff vanilla]. Throw some fruit on top, like strawberries- yummy! Low fat granola bars (my favorites are Quaker chocolate chunk) are only 2 points. And if you get bored with breakfast foods, what's wrong with a sandwich for breakfast? FF turkey on low fat whole wheat or multigrain bread with ff mayo and/or mustard is only 2 points- even if you throw lettuce and tomato on it. FF hot chocolate (I like Swiss Miss with marshmallows) is only a point or 2, and warm liquids help you feel full faster. Have you tried Kashi Go Lean bars? They are 5 points, but they are big, sweet and chewy (so you have to eat them slowly) and definitely fill a sweet tooth. When I'm home, I like to make myself an omlette with egg beaters- I put in onion, mushrooms, tomato, and a little ff chese sometimes. Only 2 points, and I add a couple pieces of toast for one point more. I read somewhere that you should eat something as soon as you get up to kick start your metabolism. If time is a factor, grab something quick like a low fat cinnamon graham cracker (1 point) and a cup of herbal tea and take the rest of your breakfast to work. I also find that I do better if I eat something every 2 or 3 hours- I read that helps keep your metabolism up too. I usually take an orange or an apple, baby carrots, graham crackers, ff pretzels or similar low point snacks to keep at work. And of course the water is important. Often when you are "always hungry", your body is really thirsty, which is why whatever you eat you still want more. Dottie Weight Loss Zone http://www.dottisweightlosszone.com has some good pointers and a big thing on one point foods somewhere. Wow! I need to shut up now, don't I? Texaslady, our traffic Friday morning was just the opposite of yours!! Some commuters, but lots of getaway traffic! The MD-DC-VA area all exits on holidays! Enjoy your fajita feast on Easter! Have a great weekend, everyone. Carol  JanetMae 04-14-2001, 09:54 AM Liz, don't feel bad about sharing your concerns here; that's part of what this group is about! Carol had some great suggestions for breakfast; all I can think of to add is to try breakfast tacos (homemade only!). Tia Rosa wheat tortillas are big and only one point; you can fill them with almost anything. Lowfat sausage, egg whites and 2% cheese, leftover baked potato and crisp bacon, w/salsa. Portable and low point. Also, re: being hungry, a book I bought at the grocery the other day lists the "10 Most Satisfying Foods" as potatoes, fish, oatmeal, oranges, apples, whole wheat pasta, beefsteak, grapes, air-popped popcorn, and bran cereal. Hope that helps! Carol, I'm so glad you're getting some spring weather, finally! Hope you have a great Easter with your dd, sil, ex, and little darlin'. I'll bet he's fascinated by all the Easter decorations! Are you doing an egg hunt for him? Texaslady, thanks, I'm less than 7 from goal now; am going to try really hard to keep losing instead of coasting over the next few weeks. Re: the surgery, haven't scheduled it exactly, but am aiming for mid-June. So y'all are having fajitas for Easter dinner! That sounds great. Do you get Tia Rosa tortillas locally? Did you know their white corn tortillas are TWO for one point?!! Isn't that incredible? Gotta run! Hi to Saara, Janet, Rebecca, JOYce, the two Nancys, and Kendra. Have a great Easter weekend, and let's all remember that those chocolate rabbits will not disappear from the face of the earth, and they're not all that points-worthy anyway! Regards, Jan Rymsh 04-15-2001, 04:57 PM I hope everyone has had a great weekend and a blessed Easter. It's been a good but quiet weekend here. The weather's been nice- starting to rain now, but it's been perfect until this point. Saturday I watched my little sweetie for a few hours while my dd ran errands and took their lab to the vet. My sil and exdh were at home doing fence repair 101, so Grandma got the babysitting nod. Broke my heart, too! He just gets cuter every day, and he and Grandma are bestest buddies. We played and went for walks and snuggled. What a little  he is! Today (Easter) I went to my dd's for dinner- she cooked a turkey and it was delicious! The little guy got a bunch of E. Bunny gifts, of course. He really liked the marshmallow peeps I got my exdh best, though!! :D It was a nice day. Jan, we didn't do an egg hunt, but they had one at the church where my dd is organist after the service, and he and his daddy found a couple eggs there! When I was little my parents used to hide jelly beans in the house, and I'd search for them. Every now and then my mom would forget where one was hidden and we'd find it several weeks later while cleaning off a bookshelf or whatever. Well, I've run my mouth too much already, so I'd better run. Have a good op Monday, everyone! Make Monday's lunch the hard boiled eggs, not the chocolate ones! :) Carol justliz 04-16-2001, 07:25 AM Morning everyone! Thanks for all the suggetions! I am so glad I joined this group. I made my shopping list and plan to stop on the way home from work today. This is just a quick note to say thanks . Busy day ahead and I gotta run! NawlinsLady 04-16-2001, 10:06 AM Happy Easter Everyone! Hope everyone had a great weekend. We went to my sister's and my mother-in-law's. But I'm happy to report not one piece of Easter candy passed through these lips!!! And I was surrounded by it. My husband and son are very big candy lovers. I am more of a salty snack lover. DH really made me feel great this weekend. We were walking around in a store and he had his arm around me and he said, "Hey I don't have anything to grab onto any more." And I said "That is exactly what I want to hear!!" I really do see the difference. Those rolls that used to hang over the sides of my waist are completely gone. I know that is from exercising too. It was just so good hearing it come from him and I could see the true surprise in his face and knew he was sincere. Rebecca - Congratulations on your terrific loss!! It is a great feeling isn't it!!! I have a Torso Track and I love it. My husband also uses it but for Christmas he wanted an Ab Slide because he thought it would help him more to be able to move from side to side. But I just use the Torso Track and I can tell the difference big time. Jan - Congrats for breaking that plateau! Persistence pays off!! TexasLady - Mmmmmm I LOVE fajitas. In fact last week my DH and I went out to Roadhouse and that is what I had. They were great. I don't know if I like the meat or the onions and peppers better. Sometimes I just put onions and peppers on my GF Grill and eat those by themselves. Well my weigh-in is tonight. I hope I got to my 10%, but that would be a 3 lb loss so, I'm not sure. I think I lost some, but I'm not sure how much. I'll let you all know. Hi to everyone and keep the faith!! Patti JanetMae 04-16-2001, 11:01 AM Carol, sounds like you had a wonderful Easter weekend! So glad the weather held out. Is your back feeling better? Is the cold completely gone now? Patti, way to go, not even having *one* piece of Easter candy! Your dh sounds like a real sweetie, too; what a nice compliment that was. And what a nice surprise for him, too, discovering what a difference your efforts are making! Good luck at wi tonight, and remember, even if the 10% doesn't happen tonight, it *will* happen, and more. There are lots of nice surprises on the road ahead for you. Enjoy the journey! Liz, hope you have a good day in spite of all the things on your to-do list! Remember to drink lots of water, and don't get too busy to eat breakfast and lunch. (Skipping breakfast and often lunch, too, were major factors in my unhealthy former lifestyle. Now my days are just as busy, but I've put myself a little higher on the priority scale.) We had a quiet but pleasant Easter weekend. Went out to the ranch Sat. and got lots of exercise paddling the boat around the lake. Dh bbq'd chicken over mesquite wood (and we both burned more calories collecting all the wood!). Sunday, after my walk, I fixed salad, smoked turkey, grilled sweet potatoes and portobello mushrooms, and an asparagus pasta thing I made up. I used to hate sweet potatoes in that gooey marshmallow recipe that's so popular; but grilled, they were terrific! I marinated them in orange juice and balsamic vinegar first, then used my Foreman-style grill on them for 20 minutes (cut 1/2 inch thick so the grill marks would show.) It's like a whole different vegetable! Rebecca, how are the scrapbooks coming? JOYce, is your cold better now that you're seeing the doctor? Texaslady, did you enjoy your fajitas at Easter? Do y'all put anything different on yours? Saara, hope you're not working too hard, even w/the double pay! Be sure to take some time for yourself, too. Any word on the exchange program? Hi to Nancy, Nancy in TC, and Kendra; hope all is well! Drop in and say hi when you can. Regards, Jan Kudzu 04-16-2001, 04:27 PM Hi...I hope everyone had a wonderful and Blessed Easter! I'm sorry to be away for so long...again...but there just never seem to be enough hours in the day to get everything done. I know others here feel the same way. I do try to lurk when I can so that I can keep up with everyone. We had a wonderful Easter weekend. DD and I went to dinner and the ballet with a friend of mine Saturday night, and we really enjoyed that. On the way home, we noticed that police cars were blocking the road to our neighborhood. It seems that a tornado had come through shortly after we left and knocked down power and phone poles and lines. We ended up having to go all around the world to get home...on narrow back roads through the dark woods. Krysten isn't crazy about the dark, so she was not a happy camper. When we got home we still had to dye Easter eggs, so there we sat at midnight dying Easter eggs by candlelight. It was actually fun, and they turned out very pretty. The power and phones came back on about 3:00 am so we made it to church on time. It even stopped raining just long enough for us to get inside the church and back out again. What is it with me and tornadoes lately?? At least I wasn't in the middle of this one. It blew the roof off a nearby nursing home and there were a lot of scared elderly people... from what I've heard. That breaks my heart...I love older people and I hate to even think about them being frightened like that. There is a small airport across from the nursing home, and some planes were completely destroyed, so I think we were lucky to be gone. I have to go to a meeting now, but I wanted to check in while I had a couple of minutes. Liz, I have been having the same problems as you lately. One day staying OP will seem like a breeze, and the next I want to eat everything that doesn't eat me first. I just try to take it one meal at a time, and not look back when I don't do as well as I would like. You have gotten some great suggestions from everyone here, and I intend to try some of them myself. Patti, I admire you so much for all your willpower...especially with the soft drinks. My daughter and I gave up soft drinks for Lent a couple of years ago, but that is the only time I have tried to do that. I don't usually drink more than one a day, but I enjoy that one tremendously. Now we have Easter candy coming out of our ears, so hopefully I will be able to steer clear of it. I'm not much of a sweets eater either, but the way I've been eating lately who knows what I will be craving next. I am going to post that low fat recipe that we talked about for you soon, but the cookbook is at home and I've been trying to post from work since my computer at home freezes up so much. I'll let you know when I get it done. Oh...and what a sweet husband you have. I know his comment made you feel like all your hard work has been worth it! Congratulations to all the "losers." Everyone is doing great! I'll try to post again one day this week. Tonight Krysten, her boyfriend and I are going bowling with another friend of mine who is in town for the week. I haven't bowled in years, but I used to love it. I'm sure I will provide a lot of entertainment and a very comical sight for the others to watch. Hi to everyone!! Talk to y'all soon! Janet (Kudzu) Rymsh 04-16-2001, 06:48 PM Hi everyone! I hope it was a good Monday. We had rain all day, but it's clear now. Tomorrow we are actually supposed to geta little "conversational snow"!! Enough already, weather guys!!! Liz, how'd your grocery shopping trip go? I know you'll be back in the groove in no time. Patti, good luck at your weigh in!! Congrats on avoiding the Easter candy. I'm like you, though- I can leave chocolate alone pretty easily- it's the salty stuff that gets me in trouble! I too have a Torso Track, and I love it. I'm just getting back into it gently- had to avoid it due to the back flare up a couple weeks ago. What a wonderful, supportive guy your dh is!!! That kind of heartfelt compliment can motivate you all the more, bless him. Jan, I'm doing fine now, thanks. Unfortunately, though, I gained a pound back- the doctor had put me on prednisone as well as an antibiotic due to the bronchitis flaring up my asthma. Oh well- it'll go again now that I'm off the stuff. It sounds like you had a lovely Easter weekend!!!! Tell me about the asparagus pasta you made- I am an asparagus fanatic! Janet, what is it with these tornadoes and you?? Thank heaven you didn't suffer any damage, or more to the point that you weren't out driving in your neighborhod when it hit. What did they do with the elderly residents of the nursing home? Have fun bowling! I haven't been for 7 or 8 years I guess- I never was any good, but I really used to enjoy it. Texaslady, where are you? I missed reading your morning post!! How was your Easter? I got some Easter pictures developed today- there's some real cute ones. Once I get the ones my dd took too I'll post a couple of them. I've got to run. Have a good evening, everyone. Talk to you later. Carol gmalil 04-17-2001, 12:18 AM just a quick check in.. I lost .8 pound at Saturdays WI. :) My chest x-ray is normal and my cough is about gone. :) The girls are safe in OK at their sisters, I'm sure they are having a ball. We are just bumming around and taking it easy. TTYS ~~~ Joyce saarao 04-17-2001, 08:54 AM Hello all of you lovely ladies! Well, my Easter went by fast. I was working every day, and it was really busy too. We had this offer that all the movies were 1/2 the normal price, so lots of people came... I didn't do much else, basically just hanged out at my house and enjoyed myself. Almost all of my friends were gone this weekend, each visiting their families, so there was no parties going on... The weather has been so nice for the past few weeks, sunny and dry, but the on Sunday we got a bit more than just "conversational snow". Gosh, it snowed all day, and it was this icky wet snow too... Must have gotten like 5 inches of it! But today is great again, sunny, and almost all of the snow hasd melted, so I think the winter is finally gone. :) I'm really waiting for the summer!!! About the exchange, I'm more and more certain every day that I will not get placed. So I'm already making plans to come and visit next year... My (host)sister in California should be graduating from college next year, so I don't know yet if I should try to come to her graduation, or maybe go to California for Christmas... but whenever I'll go, I'm also planning to travel around a bit. So I'm hoping I can visit some of you along the way... I guess I'll have to start making plans during the summer... I reall need to get my computer fixed soon! Sitting here in the computer lab with all these people is really annoying... So I'd better get going again. Believe me I think about all of you a lot more than I post these days! Have a great Tuesday! Saara. NawlinsLady 04-17-2001, 09:07 AM Good Morning!!! Well I did it!! I got my keychain!! You know I didn't think I would be as excited as I was, but I couldn't wait for her to announce it - I felt like a little kid! There was another girl that made it last night also, and I was just as excited for her. I lost 3.4 this week for a total of 18.4. I feel like I have really accomplished something. I work in a department with 13 guys and they are also so excited for me and are being very supportive. They each check with me on Tuesday morning to see how I am doing. One of them said this morning, "It's hard to do though isn't it?" and I had to be honest and say "not really". I can say truthfully that I haven't felt deprived of anything since I started. I still eat whenever I want, go out to dinner quite a bit with DH and friends and I don't feel like "poor pitiful Patti that can't have anything good". I have felt that way in the past when I have tried to lose weight but this time is different. I get what I want - but the things I want have just changed. I'm going to list my "numbers" at the bottom, but I'm not sure if I know the order. I think it is starting weight, current weight, goal weight. Let me know if I am wrong. I want to thank each and every one of you for all of your support and friendliness. I really feel welcome here and you have helped me more than I can say!! Thanks, Patti started on 3/5/01 183.2/164.8/119 texaslady 04-17-2001, 09:25 AM Good morning, girls! Sorry I didn't get around to posting yesterday. I had good intentions, but that was about it! I am so glad everyone had a lovely Easter. We did too. It was almost uncomfortably HOT here on Sunday - got into the low 90's! We were all scrambling for the air conditioning! However, we got a cold front yesterday that brought us huge thunderstorms and hail and much cooler temps - supposed to be in the 40's tonight! Can you believe it? Well, that's our normal spring weather. Carol - So glad that you are doing much better with your back now. But I am not sure you should be doing any "Torso Tracking" right now. You probably should be giving your back some time to recouperate. I am guessing it is probably still pretty mad at you for stressing it out! Hopefully, you will lose that pound once you stop taking the medication. Medication is sometimes a double edged sword! Joyce - Also glad to hear that you are feeling better too! You have been battling that crud for a really long time. Congrats on your loss this week! I am so proud of you. Your story about hiding jelly beans made me think of my own. When we were kids, we would take turn hiding "real" hardboiled Easter eggs all over the yard and in the flowerbeds. I guess I don't have to tell you what the "unfound" ones smelled like weeks later! Think your Mom was wise to hide jelly beans instead! Liz - I am sorry you are having so much trouble with staying OP. I can DEFINITELY identify! I have gotten so lazy about it. I don't gain, but I sure don't lose. Everyday I say to myself - THIS is the day I will stay absolutely OP! Sometimes I do, and sometimes I don't! I have GOT to get into motion again if I want to lose another 20 pounds before dd's wedding in October!! Anyway, in answer to your breakfast ideas, my staple is a cup of hot herbal tea (I love cranberry-apple) and an English muffin with a touch of peanut butter and honey. The p. butter seems to help me make it through the morning without getting serious munchies - guess its the protein. I also keep packets of instant oatmeal in my desk drawer and low fat pancakes in the freezer (I use sugar free syrup). You just keep on haning in there. It will all click for you again. Saara - Good to hear from you again! Sorry about the exchange program this year, but we are all anxious for you to come visit the States when you can! Maybe we can plan the Second Annual 3FC Get Together for when you will be here! All that snow - I truly couldn't stand it this late in the "spring"! Guess its all what you are used to having! Is school out yet? If not, how much longer do you have classes? Jan - Boy, you have been so busy. You deserve that summer vacation! Did you find a housekeeper for your Dad yet? Talk about your ranch makes me so sorry that we didn't get a chance to see it when we were there in March. There just wasn't enough hours in the week-end - and, of course, the weather didn't cooperate very well either. Patti - Wow, you resisted all the usual Easter temtations in fine order! You are so lucky to have a support dh to pass along that wonderful motivation on your weight loss! You are doing so well - we are all proud of you. We had chicken and beef fajitas but my cousin had a big pot of cooked onions and poblano (sp?) peppers alongside for embellishments! Yum. Janet - Remind me not to come to Mississippi anytime soon! Your weather has sure been violent this year. We got a dose of some yesterday. When the cold front hit our 90 degree tempeeratures, something had to give. We had huge thunderstorms with hail, wind & lightening all over the place. Did a lot of damage to cars (mine is in a garage, thank goodness) and trees. Of course, many traffic lights were out too. You don't even WANT to know how long it took me to drive my 25 mile commute yesterday! Glad you were spared the tornado this time - AGAIN!. Hopefully that will be the last for a while. Rebecca - How did your pictures turn out? Hope your weather is at least getting sort of spring-like. Wish I could ship you some of ours! Better go now girls. I am sure this long post put us on a second page - sorry about that. Bye for now. vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
