soooo. now that we're back on line, let's catch up with what we've done over the weekend...

an hour hike on saturday, and despite all my good intentions, i never made it to the gym.

and yesterday was a rest day [with 4 loads of laundry, the grocery store, and a trip to the mall!!!!]

today... an hour walk with poochie, and i'm planning to be at the gym tonight, but as i type this, i'm realizing that I FORGOT TO PUT MY CLEAN GYM STUFF AND TOWEL IN THE CAR!!!!!!

drat drat drat drat drat drat. that means a stop at home. i'm doomed!!!! HELP!!!!!

Hello Jif...glad to hear that you forget to put your clean stuff in the car. You've reassured me tremendously. I give myself a hard time when I'm not organised enough to exercise. I thought that my "amnesia" was selective and that I was really just trying to avoid the gym but judging from the posts you are so 100% committed to the journey that I guess it is possible just to forget! Like Sigmund says "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar!"
Thanks again Jiffy...you're my role model in all of this...
Heather
ps Saturday and today...4 miles on the bike...3 miles on the treadmill...15 lat. rolls and 15 reps on the chest press...then a wee swim and to finish it off nicely...a big red face and a lot of sweating...it's not a lot but I believe that there's more in me!

Yesterday...fairly brisk walk on an absolutely beautiful. sunny day...approx 3 miles

I just had too much fun this weekend to exercise anything but my mouth! Laughing, not talking. I went on a weekend outing with 6 of my cyberfriends I met here at 3FC on the 300+ thread. We had a great time and all 7 of us got along well and it was so much fun to actually meet the people we "chat" with on line all the time.

But today was business as usual and I did my mile walk and hour water aerobics. Tomorrow will be water walking.

barb.. those ladies are some of the nicest folks i've ever seen.. tell more!!!!!

and heather. hmmmm. not quite sure what to say, except that i've devised this system so that i have NO EXCUSES to avoid the gym. and it all centers on NOT GOING HOME AFTER WORK!!! once i sit down in that comfy chair, i'm doomed. it's all over. so after a long day at that nasty job, the last thing i ever want to do is go to the gym. but i do. there's too much at stake.

but believe me, i'm really in it for the steam room and whirlpool afterwards!!! the rewards..

you're doing a GREAT job. and remember.. just a little bit more on a regular basis. ya gotta start small and work your way up. and YOU'RE DOING IT!!!!!

Jiff you can read all about the wonderful weekend on the 300+ threads, mostly 518.519 & 520. And don't forget to check out the picture page.

But I am your opposite about the gym/health club/wherever-you -go -to exercise. If I don't do it early, before I go to work, it doesn't get done. I have much too many excuses after work, too tired, too stressed, have something more importiant/more fun to do. Get the Picture. So it's up in the morning, pack my bag with my work clothes, exercise, shower & dress for work. Of course I'll admit it's much easier since I don't get to work until about 11:00, but even when I had a job where Iworked for other people and had to be at work at 8:00 or 8:30 I was at the club no later than 6:00. Did that for Years...

i RAN over to those threads yesterday, barb, and i'm so glad you all got together. and can i come to the next one??? please?? i always feel like i'm an honorary member, even though i haven't posted for a long time.

and you're right about the gym schedule. we have to work it into our lives no matter what. and in whatever way works for us. i do best with cardio [walk or hike] in the AM and weights at night. when i first started, since i couldn't walk very far, i could only do the bike or swim, and that meant that i was often at the gym TWICE A DAY!!!!!

and so, for today, an hour walk with the dog. but we ran into an old family friend and talked for awhile, so it took longer than usual. and by the time we got home, mom had gone for a manicure with peachie and LOCKED THE HOUSE!!!! yes, i had to break in. i took the screen off the back window and reached the lock on the back door. and then replaced the screen [but it DOES have to go back to the hardware store because they actually know how to do those things. no one in my family is actually capable of fixing things!!!!, at least i didn't break a nail!!!!]

and of course i went to the hardware store to ask if they could just fix it really quickly when i brought it in. the owner is someone who went to school with our brother, so he knows us all... and he chuckled, but he also said that i'd done a GOOD JOB!!!!!

high praise indeed.

it's always something, isn't it... and now peachie is gonna read this and wonder why i left without my keys. and i'm wondering that same thing!!!!

My week seems to be going like some of yours. I had intentions of going to the gym on Sunday and Monday night. But one night company came, and the next night I waited to leave until the grandson got home from the circus. Made him and my son some supper, and then it was too late to go to the gym, they closed in a hour. Drats.

Tonight was my night I told myself. I was going hell or high water. Well, it didn't work out again. My daughther and son were both off, and they decided to take me out to dinner for my birthday. I did get a nice massage as a gift this afternoon. It is starting to look kind of dim as far as the gym this week. Tommorrow is the actual birthday, and my darling husband has made plans for after work. Guess I need to spend time with him as well. I already got his gift, and it was a replacement diamond and wedding band Replacement for the ones the other daughter stoled and pawned for drug money, so it has been an emotional and busy week. The only excercise for me this week is opening gifts and wiping the tears! But I'll keep trying later this week, I really do want to go to the gym hmmm maybe Thursday!

Hiya Kel,
That Chickadee chick is doing great! I go check out what's going on with you over at the LC board sometimes and it sounds like you have your hands full with the SH and kids and life in general. You go girl!

Guess what y'all? (Sit down Jif!) I joined the local gym today. I joined Curves last year, but it is a long way away, and I always find excuses not to go. The gym I joined is more expensive, but much more convenient. I am on a quest to make me the best, fittest Chickadee I can be. And, if that means being a bit selfish and spending time and money on me then that's what I'm going to do. I'm so excited. I used to work out at this gym a number of years ago and can't wait to start on Monday. I even have a trainer helping me to show me the best way to get started again. Cool, huh?

That's all for now,
Ms. Chick

Chickadee! I'm so proud of you - that is great news about the gym membership! Can't wait to hear about your progress.

Yes, the last year in my life has been very challenging but we are coming out of it stronger, calmer, happier, closer. (well, at least that is true for the kids and I!)

Did you see that our Dottie is back in the fold? We are just tickled pink to have her back! lol

Hey Dottie! Nice to see you again. And doesn't Kel look cute when she's tickled pink?

Welp, I worked out on the elliptical trainer for 30 minutes today and also did a bunch of upper body weight work. I am going to be very, very sore I'm sure, but GOOD FOR ME! The only bad part was I caught sight of my very fluffy butt while I was working out and am going to try to avoid that sight again for a while. ;)

Good for you on your 37 minutes on the Gazelle Pookster. We are talking about an exercise machine here aren't we, not a wild animal?

I did 25 minutes on the elliptical yesterday and some upper body weight work too. Also, I was shown the ropes at my gym's 60 minute circuit training workout. I think I'll try it tomorrow, although I'm a tad intimidated! I tend to go to the gym when I can be by myself so I'll feel better if no one's watching. What on earth have I gotten myself into?

pookie!!! chickadeedeedeedee!!! i'm so proud of you two!!!

but chickadee... honey.. i'm beginning to think that you're not the real one that we all know and love.. where is the woman who avoided exercise? where is the woman that made hell freeze over when she went for a walk a couple of weeks ago????

now ladies, i've been a posting slug, and a bit of an exercise slug as well... something happened over the weekend.. every time i started to walk, even a block, i got extremely exhausted. exercising didn't energize me, it just made me feel weak. so please forgive me for not doing it..

and on monday, i managed a 45 minute walk in the morning, but that exhaustion returned at night, so i didn't go to the gym.

but YESTERDAY i got back on track. and hour + walk and then almost all the weights [i was still dragging].

much better today.. and hour + walk this morning, and then another 45 minutes this evening. and doggie and i got caught in the thunderstorm. so it was a hot shower and now i'm sitting here in my bright red penguin jammies. quite a fashion plate!!! complete with red slippers. and i just finished a nice mug of tea.

Still on track and walking and water aerobics...I lost another pound this week!

Hiya Goils,
Today I worked out for about an hour and 15 minutes. I did the circuit training routine at my gym. At first I thought, hey, this is a piece of cake (so to speak). By the end, I was pooped. I have always been very strong, so I found that I need a little more weight on some of the apparatus/apparati/apparatuses? I will do cardio tomorrow and back to the circuit with weights on Monday. That'll be four times at the gym this week. Yay for me!

And, just to set the record straight Madame Jifferina, I used to love to exercise but got too self-conscious about it the bigger I got. So now I just figure...umm, actually I can't type what I think in my head because it would break all the rules. Anyway, if someone looks crossways at me, I'm liable to just say "bite me"!

Pookerella, way to go on the 40 pounds. That's incredible and you haven't even had surgery yet. And, just so you know, I ADORE Esther Williams movies. My daughter and I pretend to be her in the pool. We are such goofs.

Jiff - are your iron levels good? When I get anemic, that's how I feel. Also, are your thyroid levels okey-dokey? They can wreak havoc when they're out of whack. This is something I know from personal experience. Red penguin pjs are always appropo. (I have absolutely no idea if that spelling's even close!) I, of course, also own a pair.

Later gators,
Chickadee

MOAN.....don't make me run....I like only wearing one bra.

My goal is to do two miles in under 34 minutes. This morning I was 35 seconds away. I'll try again this evening to break it.

My not jiff sister got me a heart monitor to wear. It is a cool little gadget that staps around under your bra and then you wear a watch thing. Much more reliable than the treadmill one. Now I can monitor my heart rate without fear of getting it jacked up too high. Maybe running IS in my future after all.

note to jiff....in one of my more exciting heart episodes NOT while on the treadmill...I was just sitting on the couch, my heart rate went up to 164 and then I did the nose thing and it dived to 69 in two seconds....is that control or what? :D
