100 lb. Club - Anyone interested in doing the Rapid Start Plan?

04-20-2004, 11:09 AM
I picked up Dr. Phil's book "The Ultimate Weight Solution Food Guide" and would like to try the rapid start plan. I was just wondering if anyone else wanted to do it with me? If you don't know much about dr phil basically it is a low carb plan to get rid of those carb addictions. You eat a protein with each meal, lots of veggies and fruits, a few servings of low fat dairy and a carb serving at breakfast. These are just the bare bones, if there are a few people interested in trying it and they don't have the book I will provide more info. I'm not interested in making this a high maintenance thing, you'd don't have to log on everyday to say what you ate or whatever (only if you want to). For those who are interested I would just like to have an idea when you would like to start (it goes for 14 days maximum) and what your weight is on the day we start. It would be great to see everyone lose a few pounds to get us going.

Please let me know ASAP. I would like to get going in a couple of days. Thanks!

Jen I'd love to give it a shot. I sent you a PM about it.

04-20-2004, 11:11 PM
I've had a couple of people PM me about doing this program with me and it seems like Thursday is a good day to get started. I'm going to post again tomorrow with some more specifics about the program. If you are still kind of mulling it over and don't have the book I will be very happy to answer any questions and give you as much info as I can out of the book. Also there is some info on www.drphil.com under weight loss challenge then click on weight loss shows then click on "dr. phil's booty camp" then click on 'for menus click here' and there is some sample menus which might give you a good idea what it is all about. Basically you eat 1 protein serving, fruits, vegs with each meal and you get 2 dairy servings a day and 1 carb serving at breakfast. You eat 3 meals a day and 2 snacks, lots of water and you can drink tea, coffee, diet pop etc.

Anyway I will post a bit more tomorrow here and then after that whoever is going to do this with me starting on Thursday can just PM me.

-you can eat unlimited amounts of nonstarchy vegetables, either raw or cooked from fresh or frozen

What are foods I can eat?

Condiments - catsup or ketchup (1 tablespoon), gelatin (sugar-free), herbs and spices, horseradish, mustard, sugar substitutes, taco sauce (3 tablespoons), vinegar (all varieties) **it doesn't say anything about how much of these you can have (other than the ketchup and taco sauce) so I'm going to have to guess they are freebies**

So I think I have covered a fair bit here, please PM me if there is something you don't understand or have a question about. The plan starts tomorrow, Thursday April 22 and the last day will be Wednesday May 5. Those who are doing the plan please PM me with your weight tomorrow and hopefully we'll see some great results over 2 weeks. Also don't give up if you have a day or 2 where it doesn't go perfectly. These things happen and we are only human, if I make it through without going nuts and eating a box of donuts it will be a miracle. ;)

04-21-2004, 01:00 PM
sounds cool.. why not? :)
when do you want to start? tomorrow.. how about monday?? ;)

04-21-2004, 02:24 PM
The other people who have already PM'd me about it indicated that they wanted to start april 22. I didn't want to start on a monday because I didn't want to have an excuse to binge over the weekend and I wanted a couple of days underway before the weekend hit. So if you want to do the plan and start on Monday that is fine too. I posted this yesterday to start Thursday because I wanted a couple of days to get organized and buy some veggies which are sadly lacking in my fridge.

If there is anyone else who wants to join up with this small but determined group please either post here or PM me. If you don't mind also I would like a beginning weight just so you can see how well you did on the plan.

Well Jen and all of the others, today is the day! are you all ready?

I think for breakfast I will have High fibre cereal with skim milk and a banana and 2 egg whites....No sure what i'll have for the other meals....We are going grocery shopping tomorrow so I will stock up on veggies and fruit.

I feel that the hardest part about this is going to be not going to be able to have soup...I always have soup for lunch or supper...but I'll give it a try, wish me luck!!

Have a Great First Day On the RSP!!!

04-22-2004, 11:00 AM
All I had for breakfast was the high fiber cereal and milk. I've had a really sore throat lately and feel like I am coming down with something so I'm just not that hungry. I'll probably have a piece of fruit in a bit and just have 2 protein servings at lunch. I'm not hungry at all, I'm having a hard time swallowing with this throat.

Really you can turn any meal into a salad, just chop up the meat and throw it on a big plate of mixed greens. I had a really great salad the other day that was grilled chicken, spinach, a small amount of bacon bits, hardboiled egg, cheese and all topped with a honey mustard dressing. It was so yummy!

hi all
today is the day.I think i know why i never lost weight.I never ate enough.I have a hard time getting down all the food.I was always a real light eater.I had 1 egg white,a small amount of hash browns,1/2 orange, soy milk and coffee.I hope that was ok.I hope you get to feeling better jen.Good luck to you all. This will be fun.I will check in later.sheila

Hi everyone,

Amanda, you can have soup. You will just have to make it yourself. Jen, I think these are all allowed. Here is my recipe

Chicken broth (defatted, low sodium) homemade or store bought
carrots, celery, onion and any other nonstarch veggie you like (zucchini, green beans, spinach)
cooked chopped turkey or chicken

Bring broth and veggies to a boil, then simmer until veggies are cooked. Added cooked meat of your preference in the last five to ten minutes of cooking (turkey and chicken will crumble and fall apart if cooked too long) Mix up a big batch and enjoy! It really is yummy and filling. If you want extra flavour, add some Mrs. Dash garlic and herb blend.

Another soup I like is "Cream of Broccoli". Microwave broccoli with a little bit of water until tender - transfer into a blender and add milk and puree. Add a tsp of margarine, salt, pepper and Mrs. Dash to taste. Heat in microwave and serve.

Hope that helps! This is an easy plan to follow, we just need to be creative in how we serve the food because it is so different from how you may be eating now.

I had (believe it or not) sweet potatoes and lean beef for breakfast, with skim milk and strawberries. For lunch, I am having a salad with chicken and non-fat, non-sugar yogurt. For supper stir fried pork tenderloin with green and red peppers, onions and greek seasoning and lemon juice. It is really good served over a bed of lettuce. Snacks are fruit and cauliflower.

Have a great day everyone!

Absolutely you can have soup, just have to use fat free broth and make it yourself. Great recipe Jenaya!

So I had a so-so day. Did even make it through the first day :( without blowing it. But hey that is life. I totally screwed up lunch, I probably actually didn't eat too many calories but it was all carbs. I stuck right to the plan for supper though. It's the first day, I'm cutting myself a little slack. Take it day by day.

I've been trying to lose weight forever it seems like and only gained. Never lost significant amounts of weight so I hope this will jump start me a bit. I'm a RN, work part-time, have a 2 year old son and have been married 11 years this Oct. Mostly my hobbies are reading, gardening and scrapbooking.

Take care everyone. Good luck tomorrow. We can do it!

I am feeling a bit better today, got started on some antibiotics yesterday, looks like strep throat. I have a bit of a stuffy nose but this is completely unlike any cold or sore throat I have ever had before. I've never got this long with a sore throat and the glands in my neck are so swollen and tender that the rest of my neck and shoulders hurt too. also very sore along my jaw and into my ears. I don't have an ear infection thank goodness but they are not draining properly because of my sore throat. It's hard to eat much or even drink much unless it is room temperature. Cold water hurts too much.

About this plan. Okay this is going to be difficult to follow because I would guess most of us are REALLY used to eating carbs like bread, cookies, pasta etc, etc. Hey let's face it, we wouldn't be here in the 100 lbs club if we didn't have some food issues. The best thing I can say is to do your best. Work on staying away from those carbs but if you slip up, you slip up. I slipped up on the first day for crying out loud but I've been on track today. Let's keep in touch on how it is going.

04-23-2004, 02:20 PM
Good Morning Everyone!!!

I have a question, :?: :?: :?: that new Atkin bread would that be fine? like could we have two slices instead of one? I think so...

Well so far is going good, hopefully a lot better then yesturday.... :D

JEN I hope you feel better....being sick really sucks, make sure you drink lots of water ;)

Have A Great Day!!!!
Amanda

04-24-2004, 11:21 AM
Hi everyone. How are you all doing now.I have been sticking with this.I got up this morning and weighed.Guess what?I lost 1 pound.Yeahhhh I am now at 216.I love counting calories. It is so much easyer for me.Let me know how you guys are doing.I dont know if i can post later. The grand kids stay here on saturdays and they are on the puter a lot.Good luck guys:)

jen i sure hope you get to feeling better.I know what it feels like as most of my life i have delt with bad sore throats and ear ache. You need rest and chicken broth:) Take care sheila

04-26-2004, 09:10 AM
Hi all. Well the good news is that I am feeling so much better. I feel like a new human being. The bad news is that I indulged my feeling ill by being so far off the plan it isn't funny. Okay so I had a bad couple of days, today I am feeling very positive and back on track. I'm so glad to hear that others have stayed focused and managed to get through the past few days successfully. You guys inspire me!

Amanda, I can't say that I know much about the bread right now. I will have a look in Dr.Phil's book and post back later today on what he says.

04-26-2004, 10:56 AM
Just checking my local library website. Dr.Phil's book (ultimate wt loss) has 125 holds on it! Wow. Also noticed that he has a cookbook coming out, well it's probably already out by now but the library hasn't got it yet. It is on order with them so I put a hold on it just to have a look. I"m not much into cookbooks but there might be some good ideas in it.

Amanda - I had a look through my food guide and I think the idea is to cut out bread altogether at this phase of the plan and eat whole grains in the whole state or in some sort of cereal. However you have to do what you think is best for you. I'm hardly the voice of Dr. Phil and certainly not perfect myself. (not after what I ate this past weekend!) So I think that as long as it is fairly low carb and low fat you are probably fine with a slice or 2 of bread early in the day.

04-26-2004, 12:29 PM
Hi folks,

It was tough not to weigh myself this week but I vowed I wasn't going to weigh in until the end of the two weeks and that is what I am going to do. My weekend went well. I didn't get as much spring cleaning done as what needs to be done but I was dragged out from work last week.

The eating is going well. Foreman Grill is always my best friend. I was never a person to really like vegetables all that much and it is funny because they are the staples of my diet now. Interesting how we can change when we want to. All is well, trying to stick to the program and excited to see what the two week induction does to my weight. By the way, I haven't read the book - what happens after the two weeks? I assume you just add a few more carbs back in but I am not sure. If any of you very wise women know the answer to this question, please drop a line.

Keep going ladies, we can do this!

Hi guys
I am just checking in.I am doing good.I have been sticking to it.I havn't had a problem yet.I got the book at wall mart the other day.I am so glad that i finially decided to do this.I can just see myself a year from now:) I am mostly doing this to get my blood pressure down and to have better health. My boyfriend and i are doing it together. He has high chosterol and needs to get it down. How are you guys doing? Are you having any problems? post and let me know how you are all doing.sheila

04-29-2004, 08:24 AM
I wasn't going to give in and weigh myself until the end of the 2 weeks but yesterday at work I stepped on a scale and imagine to my surprise that it was a few pounds less that what I started at a week ago. So I decided I would weigh in today and guess what!!! I have lost 5 lbs!!! I know that it isn't because I'm dehydrated (as has happened with me before) and it is actually that time of the month so normally I retain water like mad and I"m usually up 5 lbs. I felt like crying this morning after weighing in and I had to post right away and let everyone know that it does work!!! Gosh and I had a few days where I didn't even do that great. Imagine what I might have lost if I had been on plan those days? Well this is a huge motivator to really stick to the plan. I hope everyone else is doing well. If I can do it, then so can you!

04-29-2004, 02:41 PM
Wow! Congratulations, Jen! Give yourself a big pat on the back. You're doing super!

05-04-2004, 01:11 PM
Hi all. Well this 2 week program is starting to wind up, tomorrow (May 5) will be the last day and then Thursday I hope you will weigh in and either post how you have done or PM me. I'd like to know how everyone did. I know right now there about 3 or 4 of us that are still on the plan and I wanted to know if you wanted to continue on with the next phase of dr. phil's plan. If so and you don't have a book I will post here what the next phase entails (mostly just adding another carb and some other things you can have ie fruit juices) and we can go from there. Personally I was going to go on to the next phase for 2 weeks and see how that goes. If I am not losing then I might go back to the rapid start plan for another 2 weeks. Dr. Phil recommends just going on it for 2 weeks at a time but if I am perfectly honest it's not like I have been following it right to the letter! But I'll give the other one a try first and see how it goes.

So how is everyone doing? What is your evaluation of the plan so far? I think it has really helped me cut back on my snacking because if I think I want something to snack on like a cookie I can usually cut myself off before I eat it by thinking to myself "that's not on the plan" and then I start thinking how I will just feel worse after I eat it and that I'm not really hungry anyways. Also I think eating more veggies has been really great. I don't think I've ever eaten this many veggies in my life! Also drinking more water too and that has helped me a lot in other ways too I think.

Take care all and let me know what you would like to do after Wednesday. Thanks.

05-05-2004, 11:22 AM
I have had that new virus that was going around.I finially after a week got rid of it thanks to the people on the tech tv board.:) I forget what i started out at :o but i now weigh 213 so i think i lost some.I will write it down next time.I am going to continue on with this plan.I like it better then any other.Jen you are doing great. You should be so proud.Keep up the good work.Hope to hear how the others are doing also.sheila

05-05-2004, 10:36 PM
Hi all. I'm just going to do a really quick post for what is going on for phase 2 of dr.phil's plan, if anyone has questions please ask here or PM me.

You may include to the other foods already listed: fruit juice, canned fruit (packed in water), canned veggies, soups, whole grains in the form of: bread, muffins, crackers, whole wheat and spinach pasta, nuts and seeds, reduced fat peanut butter.

The meal plan is the same as before except you can add a starchy carbohydrate at lunch. Also you can replace your fruit serving with fruit juice or canned fruit. Nuts and seeds and reduced fat peanut butter count as fat servings. The whole grains and the foods I listed would count as starchy carbohydrates.

Looking forward to weighing in tomorrow and posting some good results!

Sheila - you gave me a beginning weight of 218 when we started 2 weeks ago so therefore you have lost!!

05-06-2004, 04:37 PM
I finished up at 228, so that is a loss of 6 lbs over 2 weeks. Considering that I didn't 100% stick to the plan I think that is a pretty good start. How did everyone else do?

05-06-2004, 10:53 PM
Yeah, I busted into the 260's finallllllllllly!!!! I am down five pounds on the program. Thanks for the motivation Jen. Let's keep going.
