South Beach Diet - Tuesday on the Beach Chat
04-13-2004, 08:31 AM
Hello everyone! I am back! And audaciously starting the thread for the day as everyone over there seems to be asleep, I assume in a sugar coma from chocolate eggs?? :nono:
Well, I have been away on a mini holiday and then off on a retreat for easter, and both were lovely. Now I am back, and back on phase one as well as I am a bit off the programme. The mini holiday was a bit, um, cakey. And then the retreat was vegan, and therefore rather ricey and rather pasta-y. So I need to get back on the straight and narrow, but it feels easy enough after my lovely :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes meditation break.
Well, I have to rush off to the allotment to check the seeds, and then I have to go off to work. On and on...

Good morning, Chickies! :coffee:
No sugar coma here, Clovey. But yesterday was dd's birthday :hb: , so I did cheat a bit and have a small slice of flourless chocolate cake. Sugar-wise, it wasn't as bad as it could have been, but it was a cheat none-the-less. I was amazed to wake up and see that the scale hadn't inched upward. Whew! Feel like I dodged a bullet there.
Birthday supper was totally ON program, though. Very lean steak cooked on the grill, a half a sweet potato, and some asparagus with lemon juice. Yum!
Clovey, glad you enjoyed your mini holiday and retreat. It's always nice to get away, isn't it? We're planning a long weekend in August at the beach. Hopefully, a little place off the coast from Savannah called Tybee Island. I love it there.
Well, off to suck some blood. HAGD everyone

Clovey! Glad you're back! I've been browsing around the site waiting for someone to start the AM thread. Hope your seedlings fared well while you were away.
I made an appointment at Curves for Thursday, and I will probably join then. Gals there looked like they were having fun. If I have to exercise, may as well have fun doing it.
Can't get anything done outside today as it's raining again. It's a good day to curl up with a book and a pot of tea, and just be lazy.
Have a great day, everyone!
04-13-2004, 08:53 AM
Morning Mamacita, you snuck in ahead of me! Have you tried the "Bean Cake" recipe? I'm going to make it today, along with the Ethiopian Chicken. That sounds really yummy!
04-13-2004, 08:55 AM
Nope, haven't tried it...please report back how it is...I'm suspicious of anything that has the words Bean and Cake in the same recipe.
Ok, I'm REALLY out of here now.
04-13-2004, 08:58 AM
Quick flyby....I should be at the Greeenhouse in 1 minute! Can you tell I'm back to alleged normal? See you later.
04-13-2004, 09:08 AM
Welcome back, Clovey! We missed you!

Good mornin chickies! I'm back as well. I am ready for some time at home! I've missed everyone. Looks like you all are doin well and we all survived the evil chocolate rabbit. I have to say I did not have one stinkin piece of easter candy. Nothin short of a miracle for me. My sil had plenty of it sittin around her house Sunday but I steered cleared of it for once! Didn't have a total op weekend but no total blow out either. ok I'm off to get this day goin. Get all our laundry from the w-end done. Yes I know way to much fun for one person. teehee Have an OP day all!
04-13-2004, 10:15 AM
Rain, rain, and more rain for me this week. At least rain is better then snow! I didn't eat too terribly Off Plan this weekend, but I feel bloated and enormous and I am not getting on the scale. It should be TOM but it hasn't shown up yet! Hmmmmm. It could be stress because I have been very stressed out. Oh well. You chicks have a good OP day, I'm off to do school work!
04-13-2004, 10:25 AM
Morning chickies I too am back on the wagon. I didn't fair well over the week-end darn chocolate it is my one weakness.. I did get on the scales today and
this was my reaction :yikes: Well that was enough to say ok girlfriend get your butt back on track. (Dam Easter Bunny he should only give out carrots.)
Well I will be back later as my sister just called to chat about the wedding. Be back soon. :coffee:
04-13-2004, 10:38 AM
Morning, Chicks!! Dear heavens, but it's CRAPPY outside! They're calling for t-storms and damaging winds! Um, isn't it April? April showers is one thing, this is just rediculous. Despite the crappy weather, I've been good. I am back on P1.5 track (the strawberries are just too tempting) and feeling SO much better than when the carb monster had a hold of me.
I'm trying to swith to tea instead of coffee these days... arg. I need my coffee... I'm just not nice without it! Anyhoo... I've got reports to do and charts to build and ebay items to look after.... Ya'll have a TERRIFIC day! It seems we've been collectively doing ok about getting back on track... GOOD JOB LADIES!!!
04-13-2004, 11:58 AM
I just got the chillin's off to school, ran down to the Dr's office to laser my face and do some microdermabrasion. (I work for him and we have those little aesthetic machines) I've been pampering myself when I can, cause no one else is going to do it for me!
Welcome back Clovey, did miss you and your posts. Sounds like eveyone else is doing well at staying away from temptation. Even if you did have an Easter splurge...think of how much worse it could have been if you hadn't been playing at the Beach!!!
Well, off to exercise. I promised myself no fun until the exercise is done.
04-13-2004, 12:15 PM
Hi everyone and welcome back Clovey...
Like many, I had a few sweets over the weekend but I am back on program. I did limit the quantities from what I would have had in the old days, so that is progress.
The scale is a little stalled, but we shall see now that I am back to what I was doing before.
We had a passover seder for 16 (and then the dishwasher broke). The next day, as is our tradition, we took the leftover gefilte fish and chopped liver to a family easter picnic. Are we covering all bases or what?
Well, I am off to work as I slept in a little so need to hustle. Just wanted to check in. Have a good day everybody.
04-13-2004, 12:17 PM
CrystalCaity - I was in your neck of the woods yesterday giving a presentation at Howard University. The guy I drove with had his car towed!!! What should have been maybe a 3 hour trip for a casual presentation turned out to be an 8 hour ordeal in the pouring rain! It's been miserable weather here in Baltimore too!
Things are going well today though! Where's SunshineLady? I look forward to her perky messages on these dreary days. :flow2:
Hope everyone has a great day and I'll check in later!
04-13-2004, 01:01 PM
Imarah- I feel ya! My dad's firehouse is right around the corner from Howard, so at least I don't have to worry there. 9:30 club is right around the corner, too. But anywhere in the city that's not close to a firehouse, I'm always worried. If they didn't have 27 different signs everywhere telling you conflicting parking info, it wouldn't be such a hassel!! What an awful day to get stuck in the city! I'm so sorry! I must say, the very WORST place to have your car towed is in Washington, DC...

Dragging my feet today, back on phase one and no weight loss yesterday (what happened to the eleven pounds in a week pattern?) and exercise, exercise, exercise. DH got home from his game yesterday, my SIL called me from the ballpark and apparently all the sibs got into a big blowout fight...and I missed it. My family is a mix of science-based atheists/pagans and traditional latin mass pre-Vatican II Catholics (sometimes even within the nuclear realm) so needless to say there is dissention, and some of us are settled an hour or so away from others and some of us are closer to parents than others, and there has been some very, very tense air. I thought on Easter when we all got together and lubricated with wine that there might be some spirited talk I could sit back and listen to, but NO, it had to get interesting at the ballpark instead, which I missed. Ah. Oh well. Sometimes I need things to get interesting. I'm a suburban mother married for eight years with two kids. Can I get some drama here? Please?
Anyway, it has been gorgeous outside but there is rain in the forecast. RAIN?? Please!! This is California!! Where is my 86 degree weather? Where did it go?
Have a great op day chicks,
04-13-2004, 01:29 PM
 Your family sounds like such a party! Please see if someone had a camcorder!
You think you want more excitement?
04-13-2004, 01:51 PM
Moonmirror - I think we're related! Except everyone in my family lives very close and we STILL e-mail everyday. We have religion battles all the time. You want excitement? I can start forwarding!! LOL
Actually, I'll admit, I like the heat of the conversations myself sometimes. It's nice to have a family that can get so spitting mad and insulting and then spend SO much time together. I guess we're strangely lucky!
04-13-2004, 04:18 PM
Oh, yes, I love the heated discussions! It makes things very, very interesting. My DH and I are of differing philosophies ourselves, so you know if I had to marry someone totally different that I like things mixed up a little.
I can't even IMAGINE how it went at the ballpark...and no camcorder  and me sitting in the house stone cold sober, on phase one, cleaning. Could I at LEAST get some juicy family gossip around here? Pul-eeze!!!
04-13-2004, 05:07 PM
Well, that was a busy few hours! I "worked" in the Greenhouse for four hours this morning and have spent the rest of the time catching up on my semi-neglected life! Phone calls are returned, bills are paid and appointments are made and I'm feeling back to normal, aside from white poop from the barium! Sorry! TMI!
I may be the only person on here who LOST weight over Passover and Easter but I really don't recommend my method! :yikes: The weight will probably pop back on as I get back to normal eating. My followup with the surgeon is next Thursday (22) and I am going to just ignore this whole gut thing until then and concentrate on my signature!
Today's gift was a lovely bouquet of pansies picked in the Greenhouse. They just HAD to be picked to ****** the blooms until it's time to start selling - mid-May in this climate! It's raining but Kevin is working away out in the dry barn making me new barn doors. The old one was a metal overhead and he's replacing it with wooden ones like the original. My little barn was built by my Daddy in 1928 and it will be great to see it restored. And yes, Kevin did show up when he said he'd be here! Another gift! Do you think he has reformed? :gift: :gift:
We are out of candles for the dinnertable and Scotch so I am going to brave the rain and go to the market. I have to maintain some sort of Martha lifestyle to go with my pansy bouquet!
Have a great Tuesday - remains of the day - and please, first person in here in the AM, start us up. It was great to see Clovey back but I know some of us were in here earlier.

Well, shoot -- FTOTB wouldn't come up on my work computer -- think Uncle Sam suspects something? Household is on Day 2 -- nobody's cheated. But whoa, it's hard to find "legal" food at the fly-by lunch places around DC. I ordered a "grilled chicken breast" and got a breaded, fried slab of crap. Skipped that and got a huge salad -- so filling I almost forgot my snack. Spouse is not comfortable eating this much less -- and so different -- but he's a trooper -- he's stickng with it so far. Sister went grocery shopping and filled the kitchen with South Beach fare. She's downstairs cooking up a storm -- we're going to make it through this two weeks if it's the last thing we do. Off to the gym after dinner -- it's been too nuts at work to slip away. I'm dying to find out what I weigh -- I figure if it's less than 165, I've lost pounds. Haven't weighed myself for a while, but the last time was 167 a few weeks back. I figure I was at about 165 when we started. :?:
BTW, can we up spouse's amount if it's all Phase I -- I mean, the guy is 6'3" and definitely needs more than we gils do! Thanks for any guidance!
04-14-2004, 08:50 AM
Natter, FEED the man or he'll get snarly! He definitely can eat lots more than we chicks.
