Amarantha! 2 hours---you are the queen~ :D

Yesterday [Friday] I did a 15 min. dumbell routine and a 55 min. cardio/sculpt video.
My food scene was alittle shaky yesterday but here 'tis:

coffee w/ ff 1/2 and 1/2
rice-veg-egg 'quiche'

1/2 pc. spanokopita
1/2 c. couscous w/ peas
salad w/ ff Italian
5 choc. kisses**2 almond cookies
[This was a lunch I made at work for the art class.]

bean burrito [from Taco Bell]
peppermint patty

I'm very low lately on fruit and vegs. I'm trying to whittle down the food I have in the pantry and refrigerator before we go to the beach next week, that is, I don't want to shop before then, so I have to dig in and get a little more creative.

Good Morn' all...

Just slightly overwhelmed at this point with things in general....haven't even been keeping up with the multitudinous posts. Goal for this week....to do something I WANT to do each day. Am declaring a zone of selfishness. Took a bath last night and read in the tub. Today's zone TBA later! Gators!

Hmmm, I'll have to start taking notes just to do this as I can scarcely remember

1 serving Oatmeal w/ 2% milk = 150 + 50? = 200

1 viactiv (20 cal)

1/3 cup lowfat cottage cheese w/1slice pineapple - 110 + 20 = 130
Slimfast meal bar (220)

No added salt pretzels (110)

8 fishsticks - 300 -
1/2 cup naked macaroni - 100?
salad w/dressing (lite) 150?

another viactiv -20

thin sliver of layer cake (very thin but did it satisfy!) - 200?

1 serving Kashi Heart to Heart - 110

1660 or so - under 1800 anyway which is my "sort of" goal.

Looks like I'm low on veggies/fruits today as well but the salad was a good sized one so maybe not. I really don't count calories, just try to make good choices overall. And yes, for me, the cake was a "good choice" as long as I'm able to limit it and today I didn't have my ice cream.

Hmmm. Naked macaroni ... :)

Vowing not to clog up this thread with multitudenious rambling but wanted to give out a rousing :cheer: for everyone's efforts and a :thanks: for coming to the new, improved food and exercise palace parlor! Yowza!

My goal today is to finish my 390 minutes and stay on track on food. I'll be back w/report! :coffee:

Here I am, just as advertised. I've formulated my plan of action. I'm maintaining a copy of a list of behaviors I want to do every day and will judge my success for each on a scale of 1-10. Interesting, as I was thinking about it I realized a lot of this stuff I "forget" to do, or don't give a moment's thought, but so many of them can be counted upon to make every day a better place to live. And I'm so much more likely to do them if I have to come back and say how I did. Here we go:

Aerobic exercise: 7 (walk to and from gym, circuit training)
Flexibility exercise: 6 (20 mins. chi qong)
Strenth training: 10 (circuit training)
Energy work: 8 (chi qong, tai chi)
Eat only at table when alone:
Eat only when hungry:
80+ ounces of water:
No white stuff:
Vitamins:
Meditate: 8
Journal: 8
Fun:
Socialize:
Prayer: 8
9 fruits/veggies:

I'll come back and edit in how I've done. Off to a dinner party tonight, so I must be extra cautious.

Hi Ceara!

Arabella, thanks for sharing your list. I'm inspired to do one for myself!

Didn't get around to working out today; it was a long day at work, so I resolve to get up extra early tomorrow morning.

Here's today's food:

coffee w/ ff 1/2 and 1/2
rice-egg-veg. casserole
1 lo-fat corn muffin

1/2 pc. veg. lasagna
salad w/ ff Italian
1/2 espresso brownie [this took a lot of courage--I love these!]

2 ww buns--2 veg. hotdogs w/ mustard, ketchup, onions
1/2 c. baked beans
lo-fat ice cream sandwich

Okay, this is it. Tomorrow I vow to consume a decent amount of fruits and veggies! :)

Amarantha2
03-13-2004, 11:52 PM
I'm resolving to get more vege and fruit tomorrow, too, Eydie! But at least I threw out the turbinado sugar today AND ate 7 protein/carb balanced meals ... well, the donut wasn't good but I DID balance it. Also found low carb yogurt ... a byproduct of the Atkins movement to which I DON'T subscribe but I'm getting a benefit from some of the products. In BFL (which I'm NOT doing, just stealing ideas from), yogurt is a carb (which I don't agree with) but with the low carb stuff I'm using it as a protein. More than you'all wanted to know but ...

Good morning, all! I triumphed at the party -- 3 small organic potato chips before dinner (which was delish, Indian & pretty WW-friendly) and --- well, maybe 3 glasses of wine was more than I needed, but not catastrophic. Yay! I'm going to add on a small triumph category, to give myself credits for little extras like deciding to do an extra loop on the boardwalk or eating prunes when I craved something sweet (did that yesterday!) Here's the final:

Aerobic exercise: 7 (walk to and from gym, circuit training)
Flexibility exercise: 6 (20 mins. chi qong)

My goal today was to get some of my 390 exercise minutes in and I've already run/walk 30 so that's done. Having lost a half pound and FINALLY broken into the 140s (no applause, please), I'm working on a healthy breakfast and will be back tonight (or earlier) with my day's report!!! Happy St. Pat's Day! I thought of putting cottage cheese in, Eydie, and kind of wish I had. Since you mentioned it, also, I think a variety of vege would be good ... some grated carrots and mushrooms in addition to the spinach. I can't believe how good this is, though.

Arabella, I'm being influenced by thy goals as well ... I'm vowing never to eat while writing ... when I did all my writing in newsrooms for years and years I got into the bad habit of always eating at the computer at 2 a.m. when we all ordered pizza and generally throughout the day ... it was an eat/work fiesta all the time. At home writing alone it's been worse, so now I'm stopping and relaxing each time I have one of the mini meals! It's helping.

Also helping is this thread ... reporting on each day has made a big difference and I hope we continue ... thanks to all for participating!!! I'll be back ... seeing new dentist today and rather excited that she might actually help me! Sorry, that last was not a food/exercise-related comment

Started out well w/Kashi cereal and 2% milk.

Then had shepherd's pie which would have been high but Ok. I ended up eating all of dh's french fries too. I don't even like french fries usually but theirs were very good, esp w/malt vinegar.

So I tried to save the day w/lite eating afterwards. Better than bingeing but not good enough to make it an a+ day.

Good to be home....

I missed reporting in every day. Maybe if I could've checked in I would've behaved better! :o :^: :o The good news is it's nothing like the gastronomic debauchery of my past, but it was absolute food orgy by my standards today. So I'm feeling a little puffy because of it. Too much Indian food and too many sweets. No matter, I'll deal with it this week when I go completely back on program. That was fun, but my old frame can only take so much.

So, it's official---Spring is upon us. Happy Equinox!!! :D

And happy equinox to thee Eydie and Anagramatic and Arabella and Wildfire and Ceara and Dollar and whatever other :queen: s have posted on this thread!!!! I'm back from a grueling day covering a fiesta and posting early also and shutting down the computer as I'm TIRED! Did ok, not the most nutritious of days and there WAS that caramel frappacino, but it was quite hot and I'm still not feeling well and walked all day and had left my cooler of food in the office, sooooo when they delayed one event I wanted to shoot, I absolutely had to have the drink to keep going ... except coffee is dehydrating so I'd have been better off finding something else, except there wasn't anything ... so ... the following is a partial list. I may have something else later but won't post it ... I'm thinking the frappacino is higher than I've put it but that's what's in the calorie book, sooooo ... exercise was walking around all day, although sometimes I sat down ... but I at least got enough in to reach my 390 minutes for the week and I'm starting a new three-week initiative tomorrow after I weigh in and see where I am.

Yo, yo, yo and yo!!!! :balloons: The weight o' the amazing and fantastic Empress Amarantha hath NOT changed in a seven-day!!! She be smilin' about that with her Irish eyes, Queens, as this meaneth that she did NOT go back into the 150s!!! Huzzah!!! No applause, please. Just send flowers!!! :flow1:

But seriously folkes and folkettes, my new Ultima Initiative (aka personal challenge) begins today. Weight loss goal is 146. The initiative focuses on health, weight and fitness but includes a list of subgoals that will bring life into balance so's I CAN focus on health, weight and fitness. I will complete the Ultima Initiative in two phases, evaluating and mayhap setting new parameters when I reach Phase II. I will continue to report here everyday unless work or illness force me to skip a day or so or if the computer dies or all my compadres on this thread decide to give it up and if they do, I shall send the Fierce Fitness Compliance Crone (FFCC) after them!!! :rollpin: :fr: :yikes: Likewise if Amarantha tries to give up or give in or makes a bunch of stupid excuses, the FFCC will come after her as well and chase her back to Ultima Land (where the sky be always blueth with fleecy white clouds and the grass smelleth sweet and the wind bloweth cooly through sylvan pastures and balanced blood sugar and sensible weight maintenance/loss be the rule o' the day for the fabulously fit population)!!!!!

Ok, my personal Ultima Initiative containeth the following directives to Amarantha (aka ORDERS :drill: ) ... Exercise 400 minutes per week, eat a weekly average of no more than 1800 calories (thus allowing for CHEATING :cp: on some days :cp: )!!!

Subgoals (which are NOT mandatory, just a good idea) are to continue to strive for the healthy balanced carb/protein mini meal lifestyle, continue to meet all my life committments and unexpected challenges and not use them as a reason to gain weight and do beadwork every day!

That is all, over and out! I'll be back with my food/exercise report anon!

Hello,
Just as promised on the other thread I am here to assert that I will eat well, journal, exercise and meet my goal of 140 by the summer solstice. 13 weeks. 13 pounds. Easy math.

So far I am off to a good start today. Tofu scramble with brown rice and broccoli and some tahini toast. And coffee of course.

I will be back later for the lunch report.

Yowza, we have our legal eagle :queen: Z in the house!!!! :cp: And she be taking aim at the summer solstice!!! Huzzah!!! Great goals, Zadie, and thanks for sharing!!!

Likewise thanks as always to :queen: Anagramatic for that Sunday report ... looks as though thou didst well, Anagram!!!! Huzzah!!!!

I'm doing an early exercise report because before I forget ... did one hour towards my 400 weekly minutes: 20 walk/run on treadmill, 40 weights, total body with core focus! Unfortunately, it's getting somewhat warm here in good ol' AZ and after gym I was moved to have a DQ caramel sundae ... full menu report tonight!!!

:queen: E, where be thee? :queen: Arabella the Wood Nymph? :queen: Ceara? All other regular and semi-regular food/exercise thread journalisimos? Let's go, our wonderful goals await and it's almost summer!!! We need to stick to our gunneths, post our efforts and inspire each other ... (P.S., that last message is from the phantom FFCC aka Fierce Fitness Compliance Crone, not Amarantha, who'd really rather eat dulce de leche sundaes and read magazines all day rather than work out!)

OKEY DOKEY!

It's supposed to rain for the next 3 days so I played ball with the heathens early...before the ground unfroze and became soggy, and I have cut some fresh pussy willows....they look so fuzzy...

Still have only a glimmer in mine eye re: exercise. Motivation where be thou? Thee? Canna make up me mind.

We had a water event here last Tuesday...one of the pipes in the upper bathroom sprang a little pinhole and DH had to clear out the vanity, so while it is cleared we are painting it so I must be off! That will be some movement.

Hopefully I can curb my eating everything in sight behavior today.

Amarantha hath had a small victory over  Food herownself. Though she vowed to do this only once a week, her treats are getting to be once a day (which is kinda ok). Depression hit after gym and a nap and the realization she hath no work assignments (good also) and no life, so she hied off to DQ AGAIN for a SMALL caramel sundae. Ate the caramel and half the ice cream and THREW THE REST AWAY (thus bringing the calorie count to where it's really supposed to be)!!!

I think I topped 2000 today and that's a nono - but no binging or gorging. I twice today was in places which had for sale (and right there on the counter) homemade peanut butter easter eggs. I passed them up, royal folk< and that's a toughie for me>. And they'll only be around for a few more weeks, so it's now or never. I think last year I did buy two that the E.B. left for me on Easter. Not sure. I think I'll try to do without them this year. Am I strong enough? Also have not yet succumbed to the call of the jelly beans.

Well, Eydie, feeleth not like the Lone Rangerette in the emotional eating 'cause I did it, too!

Anagramatic, feeleth not alone in topping 2000 'cause, well, you weren't the only one (report below)!!! :coffee: Congrats on passing up the homemade Easter candy ... I personally did NOT pass on candy eggs and that's gotta stop 'cause it's a long time until Easter ... I think, actually I don't know when Easter is this year ... we need the holiday challenges back, methinks!!! Your pb smoothie soundeth good ... cottage cheese is so useful ... I used to make a lowfat cheesecake with it ... might try it again soon.

Here's my report. I really like this thread. It's interesting to report it here every night because when I just journal it in my own hard drive or in a notebook for myself I don't really look at it again. And journaling it in a separate journal on the 3FC journal forum is just kind of pointless and lonely. I feel this way we share a conversation about our eating and exercise.

From looking at today, I see I'm eating too much protein and not enough produce. Also the sugary treats have to go. I'm noticing that when I stick to BFL clean eating I have a hard time eating enough calories but when I stick in even a few sugary treats, I have a hard time controlling calories. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure why I have weight and health problems!

Speaking of emotional eating - I'm fighting the urge right now. I FEEL like having something like a whole rye bagel w/peanut butter. For the third morning in a row, RA is so rough I'm ready to call for prednisone. Don't want to for obvious weight gain reasons. But toughing it out is tougher sometimes than others. I also had more applesauce last night because I required another pill (which clearly says take with food). I did not take it with food, had the applesauce when I developed stomach problems and then went to bed early so I'd be asleep until they went away.

Okay, I think I'll have oatmeal. Right? Right!

Hello all!

Sorry to hear eveyrone is struggling the past few days but at least I know its not just me....
In fact, is it full moon??

Yesterday I had to struggle ... so many times, the idea of "eat till you're sick to your stomach" came to mind.... ??? ....
but I do realize, this was triggered by emotions, being tired, etc....
Amazing what we do almost by just reflex when we are not feeling ourselves...

And I give myself a big gold star for sitting thru a "brunch" of all but one item that was safe for me....( boxes of donuts, cookies, muffins, pepperoni, homemade banna pudding, homemade sticky buns.....

I grabbed three or four flex points of cheese and drank water and coffee....Luckily, I noticecd two other ladies were doing the same as I was... just avoiding...smiling, talking...

And you know what else I noticed?? Most of the "slim" people, filled their plate moderately, ate slowly and DID NOT refill....

Which again, makes me wonder why I am so affected by "supersize" and "all you can eat" mentality and so many at the brunch were not..... or were they quietly working their plan????
This certainly was not a LO CARB brunch....

***
The cottage cheese smoothie sounds interesting...have to take a look...

Food for yesterday..

1 C dry whole grain cereal
3/4 c raspberries
2 c coffee

1 small apple

1 med ww pita
2 c salad (romaine, gr onion, tomato, feta, b olives)
1 T greek dressing
The above was stuffed into pita and then my mouth!

1 1/2 c cooked cabbage
1 cooked onion
1 baked potato
1 tsp butter
2 slices cottage roll(like corned beef...pickled and done in crock pot)

1 BIG glass red wine
1 small glass white wine.
OOPS

But again I did not eat after 7!
And actually drank 600 ml of water...what a shocker!

This weekend is the dogshow from HADES....I work it as a club member and there are some people in this club...actually only 2...they appear larger than life in more ways than one...whom I don't like to associate with. I guess the good thing is that I can't get down to the food room easily...as chief ring steward I need to be at the rings...so maybe I'll luck out on the food front!

Off and running....lots of dumb things goin' on!

We seem to be in a spring slump...or is it plunge to the bottom....I know I've been incredibly depressed...and feel like I'm barely treading water some days...how some ever the frogs are singing to beat the band, and the birds are incredible. If we don't make our own pleasure and take pleasure in the small things, we will just keep going down! Bootstraps ladies! Pull 'em up! :drill: So I say for the next 4 days :coach: ...that would be Monday...we each find one pleasurable thing...no matter how small...and :write: it here. One never knows how ones own impressions may make another's day. You guys make mine every morning!

Looks SO healthy, Ceara. Don't let the bigger than lifers goad you to undo yesterday's good work.

Well, the nice weather will certainly be one of my good things for today. Will be doing a little yard work (a very little probably) and smelling the roses or whatever while I'm out there.

I like the idea of a holiday (Easter - 4/11) sprint, Empress. Might bring back a few AWOLers though I assume it's just LIFE keeping them away just now. There does seem to be a trend towards having a tough time with it all lately. Maybe the sprint would reinvigorate us. In the meantime, I'll cling to the bootstraps as Ceara reminds. And strap me back on the wagon, and continually use my Fresh Start cards and enjoy all the good company.

Yo!!!! It be good to see all the posties on this thread!!! Sis boom bah, indeed!!!! :cheer: Congrats to the intrepid Kaylets for weathering the Brunch From Heck and sticking to a sensible eating style!!! Excellent work, :queen: K!!!! :encore:

Cheers also to Ceara for her great eating day yesterday and good advice ... Sword Bearer, I hereby am taking the bootstraps pledge and pulling out the penultimate Fresh Start card!!!! NOTHING CAN KEEP US ALL FROM MOVING FORWARD AND ACCOMPLISHING OUR GOALS!!! HUZZAH! :drill:

Huzzah also to Anagramatic who's ready for an EASTER SPRINT!!! I am also, Anagram!!! Thanks for reminding me of the date, which as thou seeist unless thou hast disabled the sigs, coincides with my personal Ultimate Challenge weight goal!!! I'm proposing we START NOW and ALL declare an Easter Sprint Weight goal. I'm proposing we have another thread just for declaring and reporting our Easter Sprint goals. I'm proposing that this be a WEIGHT challenge BUT reminding everyone that declaring what weight thou wanteth to be at by Easter INCLUDES THE CONCEPT OF MAINTENANCE (or gain if anyone wants to do that)!!! I'm thinking if we put it on a separate thread, we wouldn't have to post there all the time, just on weigh-ins or if we need to report or ask for support IN THAT ONE WEIGHT BY EASTER GOAL ONLY, no real conversation. We could then continue as we are on this thread and the palace thread, as they all seemingly have different focuses and purposes.

I hate to be pushy and realize I start too many threads but TO BE FRANK, I dinna want to weight to get this sprint going as time's short, me hearties. If we want to be at a certain weight by Easter (including a maintenance weight), we gotta call in the troops, man the lifeboats and hop on the Easter train (to mix a metaphor or two)!!! So I'm gonna post this thing NOW and also put a notice on the palace thread and hope everyone will forgive my overly pushy and aggressive nature!!!

Will be back with my exercise/food report ... the Easter sprint shouldn't take the place of our continuing reporting here and discussion at the palace, dinna ye think?

Yo, Eydie!!!! Looks like a tasty and nutritious day!!!! :cheer: Agreement here about Starbuck's ... I just don't go there!!! Last week when I worked the fiesta and got kind of sick waiting around in the heat, I had an icy caramel frappucino ... wasn't Starbuck's but soooooo wonderful! However, coffee is a really bad choice when overheated in the Arizona sun (dehydrates) and the sugar and fat probably didn't help either, but my those things are good! :sigh: Must not think about it or I'll be putting on my track shoes and heading for the nearest SB! :coffee:

Reporting that in the interest of the Easter sprint, I ran/walked around neighborhood for one hour today and reached my weekly goal of 400 minutes. Next week I'm going to cut out the 2-hour aerobics/yoga/tai chi combo class that I've been slipping in on two of my weight days and get down to business again ... I need to lift weights! It's going to be harder to get the 400 minutes but I WILL DO IT AND REACH MY EASTER GOAL!!!! Hippitty Hoppitty!

Tried to make a bulgar salad today ... got the idea from one of the Saturday cooking shows. Didn't realize you only have to soak the bulgar, not cook it. But after I soaked it for awhile (since I've never had it before), it didn't seem promising so I'm saving the bulgar for Old Dog. Mixed some in her food and she loved it. I tasted the wheat and it's good, just not what I wanted today. I was going to mix grape tomatoes, cold salmon and a little ranch dressing (or some kind of dressing). I still may do it. On the cooking show, the chef mixed the bulgar (which is also called wheatberries), grilled corn, lemon, oil and some other vege things and it looked good. He served it with grilled Cornish game hens.

Ok, I'll be back with my damage report later. Have pmd my recipe for fixed-up natural peanut butter to Easter sprint participants (I think) and that seems to be the bulk of my eating today ... I knew after the second stop for pb cups that I needed to get some healthier pb in my system FAST!!!

Eydie: Thy menu soundeth good. I was going to make a healthy breakfast sandwich this a.m. along the lines thou had yesterday but now I'm ready for something less healthy and am going out!!

Lost 1.5 due to the faithfulness of all thee regular posters and the motivation of the bunny thread!!!

Re, the pb, I take a jar of natural pb (no sugar, salt trans fat or anything else, just old-fashioned ground up pb, I use the chunkiest I can find) and pour off some (not all) of the oil, put in a half or whole packet Splenda (or could use a drop of honey) and stir and refrigerate as recommended on the label. This tastes amazingly like the commercially processed pb with trans fat, salt and sugar. I count whatever calories are on the label (or not on the label if I've ground it myself at the health food store), but because I've poured off some oil (usually about two tablespoons, which still leaves enough to make the pb a good consistency), it's actually somewhat lower in cal, not to mention fat, although it IS healthy fat ... as long as your pb DOES NOT HAVE TRANS FAT!

That said, I WANT SOME SUGAR AND AM GOING TO GO TO THE CARWASH AND A DRIVE THROUGH AND THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO IT!!!

Like this color!

Yes I've survived the show....it went fine. The larger than life 2 were their usual selves, gotta give them points for consistency I guess. Yes nobody died, nobody got bit and we are all still talking to whomever is important to us. Such is life. I was so beat last night...had a play rehearsal at 7... lots of laughs...but my eyes kept crossing...fell into bed and didn't move until 5:30.

Played ball with heathens this morn, have perused the flowerbeds. The beautiful thing I saw yesterday was at 6:30 am as I was backing outta the drive...I have some varigated crocus flowering at the end of the drive and a deep purple icicle pansy...had to drive back in a look before I left. Used that image to keep me calm all day.

T'days is 2 deep purple arctic iris' which haven't flowered for a couple years...they were offended when I moved them. They are looking gorgeous!

You don't wanna know what I ate this weekend....suffice to say that it wasn't bad food choices..just too early and then too late in the pm...had some wonderful stuffed salmon though...the lunch room was way far away, so I always debated on whether I had time to leave the show rings, and did I really feel that hungry to justify walking that far?

Today my boots are strapped on and my seat belt is firmly fastened...see ya on the wagon!

Brekkie...2 c coffee
3/4 c raspberries
1/2 c mixed grain cereal

Am off to eat it!

Grrr...I'm tired of these low-grade crud I have. Worst thing is I get tired so easily and suddenly. When it happens I have to find a place to rest NOW! And my knee is hurting too. I don't know what that's about---but it's really affecting my workouts. Wah! I feel like I'm falling apart. And I'm craving chocolate.

Other than that, things are fine! :D

Amarantha2
03-29-2004, 08:21 PM
Eydie, take my advice, GET SOME CHOCOLATE!!!!

I really think you need and deserve some. Get a chocolate bunnie as a tribute to the hippy hoppy Easter challenge and a reaffirmation that we can rest and enjoy some treats even though we're aboard that bunny challenge train!!! :jig: :s: And, chocolate has antioxidants, lest we forget!!! So it could cure the low grade thing you're going through!!! And you need time off from your workouts also, so what better way to honor thy body than to rest and eat some antioxidants? :)

Having said all that about treat tributes, I'm making my report early again in hopes that I stop eating!!! Today was all about eating out ... my friends (retired ex-editor and husband) are leaving Arizona (again, they keep coming back and leaving, although they aren't snowbirds, they don't like it here and insist they're only here for family reasons) and I had a nice lunch with them at a fancy Mexican restaurant. I also had breakfast out after gym and tried to make good choices and to "fix" the  food. We ended up sharing all the food as I had mistakenly ordered raw tuna (something I just don't eat) but my ex-editor ate it and everyone gave me part of theirs, so I really didn't eat all that much. As always chips (evil), salsa (angelic), and guacamole (healthy) forced themselves upon me but I did rather well in limiting it to what I considered an ounce of chips and 3 T of guacamole, which was the best I've ever eaten. I loved the restaurant and spending time with this quixotic couple!

So, here's the damage:

Tomorrow I'm vowing to go outside for a run before going to work in mountains. Plan to reduce calories to the 1600s.

I'm going to post this on all the CCRRMM threads because I read it today and it really hit me, not that I have to necessarily run for exercise or exercise at 5 a.m., but that it IS necessary to do it (and to eat right) whether I really feel like it or not, UNLESS I prefer life at 247 pounds. I can't afford to wait until I feel like it. If not now, when? ... 'I've been running every morning at 5am for about 13 years now--and never ONCE has it been easy to get up and do it. Thirteen years and never once! ... Why do I keep doing it? It is the fastest, most efficient and effective way for me to keep my weight down ...' Hello all!

Speaking of choc bunnies....WW's leader touched upon that subject last night...
I realize her point was to encourage folks to be flexible in their choices, plan ahead, use activity points... but actually suggested if worse came to worse...
eat a whole bunny and be done w/ it....
Well, I just smiled as I know what would happen to me...
But there are folks in the class who are very new to this whole game and I am sure felt reassurance that it would be "OK" ... that they could have candy and still be on plan....

And there was a real discussion on how you can increase the size of a Peep by putting it in the microwave for a few seconds...
I can't help but wonder who would have had that idea? I would've never thought of that....

But then again.... it wouldnt have had time to get near any kitchen appliance.....it would be eaten long b/4 we got to the kitchen!

hee hee

But what it would do to me! I'd still be craving, falling, craving, etc, etc, till the fall.....

Amarantha, as far a lo-cal or lo-fat pie crust, I use Lite butter when making pie crust. Land 'O Lakes makes it--it's butter with half the fat removed somehow. It's really good. OR you could even used grated potatoes---you can buy them already grated in the dairy section of most supermarkets; I think the brand is 'Simply Potatoes'.

Ok, guys, I just posted on an EFL (Eating for Life, a BFL plan) thread that Suzanne has started on the general diet plans forum and I'm saying it again (more forcefully here amongst my compadres) I'M SICK AND TIRED OF S****ING AROUND AND I'M GOING TO BE STRICTER IN FOLLOWING EFL!!! I say "stricter" because while I advocate this WOE, I believe there are a number of useful whole grains, proteins and fat items that aren't exactly on ol' Bill's authorized list of "right foods" ... so I decide what foods are authorized. But except for my free day (or emergencies), I'm not considering junk food as authorized. Still counting calories as before and doing my regular exercise program.

Eydie, thanks for the pie crust idea. I'm thinking whole wheat would be good with the lite butter?

I'm kind of getting to like whole wheat better than the white stuff! I think that's progress?

Saving a pm, I'll just address this to Eydie (but others may read it, 'cause I REALLY MEAN IT, remember that SO program we talked about ... well, I've decided I'm going to cut that out as well as it's time I could be spending a) exercising, b) working productively to further my life c) cooking healthy foods or d) talking to the :queen: s!!!!

That's a good way to do it, Anagram, posting instead of jotting. I find I use my spreadsheet throughout the day if I'm home and it's loads easier than writing things down.

Ok, in the interest of full disclosure here, I have to report that at approximately 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, long after posting my report, the binge  got into the house and attacked me with my HEALTHY EFL food. It was so fast and furious, I didn't even notice how much I had and didn't log anything. So I'm zeroing out that day on my spreadsheet and moving forward! At least it wasn't those dang pb cups!!! Has everyone noticed that 3FC has the nutritional info from Starbucks? Check it out. Their whipped cream must be from the infernal dairies of ****! It really adds a lot of calories and fat---I'll never have it again, The whipped cream, that is. I'll have my ultra-sweet frappicino straight, please! :coffee:

Well, I had hard drive and/or server problems and couldn't get on here yesterday and as a result fell off the EFL wagon and went hog wild and I couldn't even tell you what I ate. Will post my weigh-in (probably will be up) and start journaling and posting menus again tomorrow!!! Exercise Friday was 110 minutes (10 recument bike, 10 :tread: 60 weights w/trainer and a 30-minute walk in evening). Today was a wimpy 10 minutes of yoga in a deserted newsroom between interviews ... I won't make my 400 minutes of exercise, but it's close.

I know we're not really replying to each other on this thread but feel I should contribute since my journaling went away for awhile, so forgive me!

Everyone's doing great and posting away. Kaylets, it'll be great to have thee journaling with us at least on the weekends (though seeing thee here every day would be best for us IMO) ... :roflmao: at pouring ketchup on the chips!!!

Arabella: Huzzah on the campaign lunch and also the good handling of flexpoints!!! :cp:

Anagram: Mixing the kashi w/Cheerios sounds delicious! I need to try that! Oh dear, though, do they have pb cup Healthy Choice? I'm dead! Going to have to find that and bring some home for my EFL free day ... which is going to be Sunday even if I have been off the wagon.

Eydie, thank heavens someone else doesn't know how many calories they had recently ... I feel better!

Ceara: Congratulations on thy really great day Friday (or Thursday, anyway it was the stew day) ... do you have a recipe for the stew? That sounds so good ...

:queen: s, I'm really going to get going on posting daily to this thread. The combination not only of journaling but reporting in to a group on my menus has obviously helped me a lot ... the evidence being that when I couldn't get on, I just mentally went away and started the recreational eating and the stuffing down of my emotions with too much unhealthy food again. It only took a few hours before I lost the feeling of being connected with this journaling group and started wandering alone in the food universe.

Hopefully we'll be able to keep this thread going ... and hopefully anyone who feels it's getting too long will just jump in and start a new one and hopefully we'll even get more :queen: s (or neighbors) in here.

IN FUTURE, I PLEDGE TO RETURN TO JUST JOURNALING AND WILL NOT PONTIFICATE AND RAMBLE ON MUCH!

Later ...

Sis boom bah! :cheer:

Yes, Empress, they really do and it is sinfully delicious at 120 calories a half cup serving. I always seem to need the additional teaspoon from the carton after I've filled my dish - that always seems so extra tasty.

Find it hard to get in that flavor sometimes, in fact I got last one this time. It was on sale though ($3.99) and pretty picked over. Has really helped my pb craving. And has more calcium than the pb eggs.

I feel like I've done OK today eating-wise.

Breakfast: cubed, fried potatoes topped with s. cream, cheese, scallions and tomatoes, washed down with one of those super-thick, all juice/puree bottled drinks. Num.

Not great, both meals fatty, carb-y and probably high-cal, but simple, wholesome food and I'm flyin' high on my veggie servings. AND, I didn't get chips with the sandwich. AND, I'm doing great water-wise.

Well, a funny thing happened re posting my menu, I cleared out the spreadsheet I use to log and report my menus and forgot to post yesterday's food ... I'm not archiving the menus at the moment. Anyway, I did have the two pb cups but everything else was on track for BFL and there were two vege servings and two fruit ... still need more but that was good (for me). I had a crabcake (lowfat) and bought more Myoplex Lite bars because I realized the pb cups happened because I didn't have any of the bars ... these bars are a good quality product but they do have fructose in them, which I'd rather not eat, but apparently it's those or pb cups and bars fit BFL, so ...

Calories were 1580, exercise reported above. I'll post today's menu as usual!!!

Gotta work!!!

Me again, sorry, overposting ... I just posted this on the BFL thread:

"Guys, due to technical difficulties (e.g, an uncontrollable lust for dulce de leche), I'm having yet another off program day and am going to try to do well tomorrow and Saturday, but am really cancelling my official EFL start day until Sunday. I do my weight management in three-week "initiatives" and am starting a new one on Easter."

I'll share with thou :queen: s that the dulce de leche came about after I had a mini argument with a woman in Walmart. She called me "dear" ... ugh! Anyone in that situation would obviously have done exactly as I did ... go on a dulce de leche binge.

I'm keeping track of calories and will post my report tonight. It won't be pretty 'cause I'm NOT done eating!

anagram
04-08-2004, 06:16 PM
And "honey" would have been even worse. Ugh!! I've sort of blown it a bit today too. Details to follow.

Oatmeal w/2% milk
Lofat yogurt
BOWL of cauliflower, broccoli, carrots
Whole wheat toast w/ very little apricot preserve
Slimabear
Walnuts (more than I should have)

Dinner will be ham and salad. Then there will be more, probably.

I know the walnuts are good for one in moderation but I'm pretty sure I exceeded moderation. Will not be beating me up though because they're such an occasional item in my diet and it wasn't like I ate the whole bag or anything (1# bags - too much for even me). May abate my pb cravings for a while.

No real exercise other than walking in grocery store where I stalwartly resisted buying delicious muffins when I entered that dangerous area to pick up two donuts for dh. sob.

This is a repost because of course I messed something up.

And "honey" would have been worse. Ugh!! A dulce la leche moment to be sure. I've done some off plan eating too. Details to follow.

oatmeal w/2 % milk
2 viactivs
lofat yogurt
BOWL of cauliflower, broccoli, carrots
whole wheat toast (1) w/very little apricot preserve
pb cup ice cream
WALNUTS (while I know they're good for one in moderation, I think I exceeded moderation but will not be beating me up because it wasn't all that many and I so seldom do add them to my diet - may even abate my pb craving)
ham and broccoli slaw w/only a little lite dressing
Sliver of carrot cake

Passed up some delicious looking muffings today while in grocery store picking out donuts and a carrot cake for dh. Store was my only exercise today. sob

Broc w/lf cheese sauce, corn 120
EAS van CC shake 100

EAS van CC shake 100
Myoplex Lite bar 190

And MUCH more ...

Calories? Your guess is as good as mine.

What's really funny about this day is that I was only really satisfied with the salmon meal and I am still craving the salmon, so if I'd had a double portion of that, the whole bad eating evening wouldn't have happened.

I just watched PBS' Frontline "Diet Wars" that Suzanne mentions in the announcements and it was really a good outline of how our society has come to this place regarding weight-related disease ... and it seemed to reach the same conclusion I have about the best way to eat and how important it is to get and keep the weight off.

So I'm going to just keep on doing it, regardless of the slipups! Avanti, guys!

Ceara emerges from the fog....(see details on Bunny Trail). :coffee:

She has no clue about what she has eaten in the past week. Certainly no time to cruise kitchen for nibblies or sweeties. Too stressed. Also only walked for 2 days sometime before last Friday. I think. Tongue constantly feels coated...either I am sick, or the water change here is affecting me. There is an open cantaloupe in the fridge...which was breakfast yesterday, tuna stuffed pita w/ lite Hellmann's, onion and romaine for lunch, and a potluck for dinner...a modified Seder meal at the church...where I was quite circumspect I believe...no sweets, jellos or pastas...just meat and salad.

Oh and multitudinous :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: in there somewhere.

I must be sick!!!!

Or just not hungry!!!

I'm sick!!!!! I'm never NOT hungry....although this lack of desire is kinda nice.

Am off now to investigate that cantaloupe for brekkie now....

Ta-Rah....fogs and mists are lifting! And many posts to read I see!

Yo!!! Great work on the concert, WN!!! That's a good example of what IMO everyone should do (me included) ... seize the day and enjoy life whilst we may!

Eydie, the spinach-onion pizza sounds delicious ... spinach is so good. I hated it as a kid because no one ever gave me anything but the limp, awful canned stuff ... it was years before I discovered fresh spinach existed and that it also made a great cooking ingredient!! There used to be a restaurant in one of the historic towns in my area (it was in the building where they filmed the movie Murphy's Law) and the woman who owned it (it's sold now) made wonderful egg salad with fresh spinach in it. It was to die for! Congrats on a good day!!!

Ceara, IMO vacuuming Chinese beetles (whatever they are) sounds highly strenous and definitely counts as exercise!!! Thou art intrepid!!! :cp:

Adding 40 min. yoga to my exercise report ... total 115 minutes ... feel very relaxed doing the Wae Lana tapes at night.

So, little NSV here. Last night instead of the sort of planned raspberry hot chocolate I had some 2% milk instead for a grand savings of perhaps 50 calories. Just wasn't in a chocolate mood.

So breakfast was a mix of Kashi cereals and I won't be keeping track over the next two days. Not planning to overeat but when not reporting I'm sure I'll eat more than when I'm planning to submit it. So put me down for two days probably O(ff)P and then I'll check in Monday for my gazillionth Fresh Start Card.

Ok, Anagramatic, the palace hath put you down for two days off program and a fresh start card Monday!!!!

Hope :queen: K has a lot of those on hand, or at least another one for me, because I've been eating like the proverbial equine all day, thus ruining my chances of a good final weigh-in for the Easter challenge. No exercise either but I'm starting fresh tomorrow.

:queen: E, thy menu looks exemplary as usual (and delicious)!!! :cheer:

No real report as I stopped logging about noon ... had some Myoplex bars, EAS shakes AND two giant bp cups (white chocolate) plus a dulce de leche milk and several tablespoons of my "fixed" natural pb (which calmed me down ... I had yet another argument with a store clerk today)!!!

Starting my new initiative, I have to reflect that all the arguments I'm having with people are probably in part (there are more things bothering me but this thread is about food/exercise) because I tried to do BFL when I'm really not up to it. So I will return to my BFL-like calorie counting with occasional counted in treats along the way for my new initiative. If my weight's up tomorrow (likely), then so be it and I'm ready to continue the journey. If it's down I'll do the happy bunny hop!!!

I WILL SUCCEED!!!

I'll be back tomorrow with a real menu report!!! Huzzah!

Amarantha2
04-11-2004, 12:53 PM
Yokay!!!! I was gonna slack off today (it being Easter n' all) but  Scale shocked me into reality and I posted a May Day sprint thread for anyone who wants to hop on ... let's all keep reporting in here and keep the bunny thread open until everyone's reported!!!!

EDITING MY PERSONAL CHALLENGE AFTER THINKIN' IT OVER!!!I'm starting a new three week initiative of just calorie counting and trying to do my best. I'm setting my exercise goal at 300 minutes this week because of the extra assignments out of town plus the minor (jaw) surgery on Wednesday. For the second week, I'm going for 400 minutes and for the third week 420!

Will not be doing BFL but will try to eat healthy food with an occasional treat when needed. Am logging menus and calorie counts on spreadsheets and aiming for A WEEKLY AVERAGE OF 1500-1800, so it can go up or down. Will report daily menus here unless it's not feasible.

POSTED A MAY DAY SPRINT FOR ANYONE INTERESTED and also hoping to get final reports from anyone who posted a goal on the bunny thread!!!!!

Yowza!!! Bye! Menu below, or above, or somewhere!

Unfortunately, the addlepated maiden hath locked the kitchen and put the key in her apron pocket before scuttling off to the village nightspots, so Amarantha be having to take the "pledge" and not eat anymore calories until at least midnight, when her eating day officially begineth, though waiting until daylight would be better, still we can't have everything, can we :queen: s?

Amarantha, your comment about waiting until daylight reminds me of this old one-liner: "I've always been a light eater.....when it gets light, I start eating!"

It's Monday, and I really need to faithfully count calories and NOT go above 1500. I just feel like I'm letting myself off the hook too much lately. And be more 'sincere' with my workouts--again letting myself off the hook.

Anyway, time to catch up with my menus!

Saturday:
coffee w/ ff 1/2 and 1/2
grapefruit/orange juice [fresh! We love our juicer!]

pizza bagel [sauce, vegs, cheese on Asiago bagel]
sm. Slimfast bar

Salad [spinach, vegs, veg. 'chicken', ff ranch]
strawberries w/ ff vanilla pudding

snacks: pear/ apple juice
Snickers 'Marathon' bar

Sunday:

4 corn-pecan pancakes w/ maple syrup, cooked pears

carrot/ celery/apple juice

1 1/2 millet patties [these are good--I'll post the recipe sometime.]

Well, Eydie, in the interest of full disclosure again, I didn't even wait until midnight. Had a few more items (not sure what they were now) and ended up at 1960. I'm actually thinking of doing what some Weight Watchers people do and run my eating day from 10 p.m. to 10 p.m. ... there's times I kind of do this anyway ... I just carry over any extras to the next day's balance ... this works kind of well ... seems to fit my crazy lifestyle.

I'm going to be very vigilant now, too, and am off to gym early as I have to travel today. Be back tonight!

This queen has had another of those "don't ask" weekends. I must get my trips to dd's under control foodwise. Another one coming up Friday/Saturday. This time I'm not even sure I tried. Obviously one reason I'm not losing.

So it's a Slimfast start again this Monday.

I went to gym yesterday but got into conversations and only got 20 minutes of shoulder work and a little treadmill in ... then I was doing well on eating but traveled all over the freakin' state and it just got away from me and I have no idea what I ate but it was a lot and not of good quality!!!! So my report is ... (to quote my :queen: ly compadre Anagramatic) :

Yo! Eydie, wouldst thou be willing to part with the recipe for the millet patties? I'm thinking these'd be great for an EFL carb dish. Unless it be a secret! :)

Anagramatic, I got some Skinny Cow pb cup ice cream sandwiches ... they're not bad, although I don't really like the SC sandwiches ... used to like the ice cream bars. They also now have Skinny Cow sf ice cream flavors packed in cartons ... one is peanut butter cookie dough! I resisted because I don't really like ice cream in cartons ... too messy!

Anyhow, here's my report. I decided to take another day off from exercise but did try to walk on treadmill at gym. It didn't work, so decided just to focus on getting back on a good eating track. I am firmly closing the door to the kitchen for the night (well, it doesn't have a door, but you get the concept)!!!

I can't tell you how much journaling with thou wonderful :queen: s has helped since we've started this thread. Let's keep going ...

Here's the recipe for millet patties!

1 cup millet
1/2 tbsp.oil
3 cups boiling water
1 tsp. salt
3/4 cup minced or grated carrot
3/4 cup miced onion
3/4 cup flour [I used whole wheat]

Saute millet in oil in medium saucepan 2-3 minutes. Add boiling water--simmer 35 minutes. Add vegetables and simmer 5 more minutes.Transfer to large bowl, add flour and mix well. Form into patties and cook on a griddle until browned on both sides. Makes about 12---they freeze well.

You can vary this recipe a lot; add herbs, dredge them in cornmeal before cooking them, etc. It's one of those old veg hippie recipes. I've had them beside eggs in the morning, and topped with salsa, or tomato sauce or cheese. Enjoy!

Going ahead and reporting 30 minutes of weights in gym. I'm wondering if it be time for us to graduate to a new thread for this journaling enterprise? Just a thought as it's getting harder for me to open it ...

Anyhow, I'm not journaling, but since this is the food thread I'm just posting my random food thought here, apropos of nothing:

This should really be on the food thread, but again, I'm here now ... I just pitched the low carb bread ... it tasted like a cross between cardboard and bacon ... got some wonderful low cal 100 percent whole wheat put out by the same company and the difference is amazing ... let's face it, :queen: s, bread is SUPPOSED to have carbohydrates!!!

Ok, I fell for the Woman's World diet cover again (I know, they sensationalize every diet plan that comes around the pike and act as if they just discovered it)!!! Anyhow, it had the usual "somebody lost a zillion pounds on the new miracle plan" thing, which turned out to be the plan of some weight loss clinic in CA or somewhere ... the main point of my even bringing this up is that this plan suggested using low carb eating as a "rocket" for fat burning ... you stay at 50 grams of carbs (good quality) for the first three days and every Monday, then stay at 100 or below the rest of the time ... otherwise, it seems to be just a healthy, moderate calorie plan. I was looking at this and realized (as I've realized before) that as much as I rail against Atkins (and I do, but not usually on here), I've been eating pretty low on the glycemic index myself for months (except on my several times a week binges) and calling it BFL! And I have actually lost weight.

So I like this "rocket" idea a little bit ... but I have a question that I'm asking myself, what does it signify, if anything, that Dr. A himself was mayhap overweight and died of heart disease, as is rumored, although I have no idea if that is really true and it is denied by his family.

Ok, I shall stop clogging up this otherwise pristine journaling thread with ramblings and go exercise! I'll be back with a more focused report this evening!

In the meantime, tonight I will be doing a book talk (on a book I hate) and a zinger (on a book I loved...what's wrong with this picture??????) and imbibing on red wine :o . [color=red]Ok, here's my Monday report: There isn't one!!! At the gym, I overheard a conversation wherein a Somewhat Fit Person told another SFP that he'd taken three days off to just feed his body all the junk food it wanted, thus resetting his metabolism and conquering his cravings and that he'd started to lose weight again almost immediately after starting to eat clean again. So I decided to take one of my days off again and eat everything I wanted ... I'm talking Pizza Hut here and dulce de leche ... not sure I'm done yet. It would defeat the purpose if I counted the calories, so like last week, I'll just remove this day from the week's average.

I did 55 minutes of weights at gym (total body with a concentration on upper, increased poundages slightly on all exercises) and 5 min :tread: !!!!

Amarantha, so what do you think about that idea of eating junk to shake up your metabolism? It definitely has an appeal, but I'm afraid that I'd never come back! That was my main problem with BFL---I just couldn't handle 'free day'.

allowing me a snack yet before bedtime but not yet hungry enough for it.

No specific exercise today beyond a few stretches as feeling bum. Prior three days very off plan but not so outrageously so that I felt bad about it. Might just say I fed my metabolism and cravings. Trouble is I don't lose the weight when I go back op.

Amarantha2
04-27-2004, 12:55 AM
Eydie, I personally think the shaking up of the metabolism thing has a lot of merit. Bodybuilders call it "calorie cycling," I think. It's sort of on the same lines as the free day in BFL or the Wendy plan. When I lost the bulk of my weight, I always was surprised that when I would overeat for awhile, it tended to move me off plateaus. I also have a bit of trouble getting back on track, though, but that may be because I still try to control the free day (NOT going to do it for three days :yikes: ), count calories, journal it, average it in. The secret may be to block it off from the rest of life and that's what I'm gonna do ... I am rather sick of food right now and should be able to get op tomorrow ... trouble is, I still don't feel I've eaten whatever it is I'm craving ... I just don't know what it is that will satisfy me ... I'm noticing that I'm kind of doing a day on, day off thingie here for the last few weeks, but I need to eat sensibly the rest of the week ... this was a good experimental day for me, though.

Anagramatic, even if you don't lose any weight, maybe your three days of feeding metabolism and cravings was good for thee in the long run ... hope you enjoyed it ... have a good evening!!!!

Later ...
