I'm starting a 16-week program ending Father's Day. :goodvibes Anyone is welcome to join me if you are interested in starting a serious program and losing weight by 6/20/04. :wizard: I'm planning on shedding 40 pounds!!!! ;)

Come join, post, vent, or see my progress! Either way, I'm doing this! :o

02-28-2004, 02:12 PM
Well, looks like it's just me and my lonesome - oh well. I guess the main point is to post and if this helps or encourages at least one person out there, then I will be happy! :smug:

I'm weighing early today @ 160 lbs. Sunday will be my weigh day. There are 16 full weeks until Father's Day and that means that I need to lose 2.5 lbs. per week which I think is doable.

How will I do this? :?:

**Exercise AT least 4 times per week, up to 6 times max. :tread:
**Follow a 20-point WW diet daily. :write:
**Continue my 64 oz + water intake :rain:
**Journal entries posting intake, thoughts, progress, and any backsliding (heaven forbid) :comp:

Why Father's Day? :chin:

Well, three reasons. I do feel like a good mommy, but I can't help feeling that I sort of let my DH down in that I let myself go to some degree. :sumo: Don't get me wrong, I know he loves me a lot but he didn't sign up for someone that is always complaining about being fat :ink: and unhappy :( . So, this is for me, my son, and his Papa!! Those are three good enough reasons for me  . And of course for a more healthier lifestyle and OUTLOOK. :bubbles:

Off I go.

Did pretty good today. Went over personal WW point goal but not max for my range.

B- coffee

L-shrimp w/ scrambed eggs
light lemonade

D-Pizza (toppings only)
Michelob light
almond bites
TOTAL 25 points

No exercise today, too busy with b-day parties and watching Oscars!

03-01-2004, 03:44 PM
Hi Hula! I'll join you here too!! My breakfast this morning was a 2 egg omlet with a slice of ham, 1/2 oz shredded cheese and a BIG cup of coffee with some non dairy creamer. Lunch was a Wendy's spinach and chicken salad with a carb free dressing. Supper is up for grabs, Maybe a burger on a low carb pita.. Do they have the 'Joseph's' brand in CA? VERY low carb pita bread...only 5g Effective Carb Count in 1 WHOLE pita! Calories..60, Fat grams 1.5

03-01-2004, 05:22 PM
Welcome Lissandy! Great, low carb tips! I get bored with the same stuff I eat so maybe I'll pick up something new. They don't have Josephs brand out here but that sounds good. We have a low carb tortilla by the Tortilla Factory which has 3 net carbs per tortilla. And they just added a garlic herb flavor. How many carbs per day are you doing? I'm trying the 20 grams a day for two weeks to see what happens. Is this your first time going "low-carb"?

03-01-2004, 06:43 PM
Hi Hula and Lissandy!
Mind if I join you two? Reading your post Hula about your reasons why you chose Father's Day, actually gave me motivation to do this too. I have been complaining lots and have been unhappy and DH is getting tired of it and really wants me to be happy. My unhappiness is making him unhappy and that makes me sad. (quite the cycle, eh?)I have lost 17 pounds so far, and have recently lost all dedication to this and have been eating whatever I want and not journaling or counting points at all (I'm on WW). This is not good. I haven't gained any weight yet as a result, but I know I will very soon if I keep this up.
My goal is to lose 32 pounds in these 16 weeks, hey that works out ot 2 pounds a week. That's lots, but I will do it, I will!!!
I will do this by,
#1 having 24 points per day and journalling it
#2 exercising daily min 30 minutes
#3 drinking at least 6 cups of water a day
#4 doing situps daily

I noticed that you're going to try 20 points for 16 weeks, I thought this was only supposed to be done for 2 weeks max (you're talking about the Fast Track program right?) Do you think that this will work and not put your body into starvation mode?

Lissandy, what is your plan for this challenge?

Oops, I didn't watch Oscars, didn't even know they were on last night. Which movies did well? Best Picture?

Well, I had best get going as I have so much work to do today and I still haven't done anything. :stress:

03-01-2004, 11:30 PM
Hi Gals,

Ok, I'm so in on this!! I'm not getting the early start you did but it's just as good.

I'm doing the South Beach Diet and getting off to do my walking video. I was feeling discouraged and found our post on this.
I'm the kind that needs a helping hand and some strong motivation! I feel like this is my last chance. I'm 36 and I've been saying for the last 9 years, I'm gonna lose this weight. HELLO......
Logging off to walk away the pounds :). I'll be back tomorrow.

03-02-2004, 12:56 AM
Denise, I sure like those WATP videos. How do you like them? Well, the lady annoys the heck out of me, but oh well. I bowled tonight and had fun even though I really suck at bowling. Babies fussing, gotta go

03-02-2004, 01:03 AM
Just a question, shouldn't this thread be under the support groups forum? Maybe we could find more people there. Just a thought. I only found this through the buddies forum

03-02-2004, 01:39 AM
Wow, so much activity since I last logged on! Wecome DewCan and CanonGal!! Ya'all ready to do this?

DewCan-Your plan sounds very doable! Actually I like it better than mine. I think mine is too strict. In fact, I had 28 points today so I think I will modify my points to 20-25. I'm not familiar with the latest WW plans, I was just doing the original Winning Points since I still have the materials. Do you know what is the point range for someone weighing 160 pounds? Thanks!!! p.s. Lord of the Rings swept the Oscars.
p.s.s. I think I tried posting under "Support" originally but we can try to recruit some newbies if you want!

CanonGal-If it makes you feel any better, I've been trying to "start" a plan for longer than 9 years and have fluctuated between 130 and 190 between then! But I am seriously ready now. The important thing is that you are starting NOW and making changes. Don't worry about the early start, the challenge actually starts today (exactly 16 weeks 'til Father's Day). Welcome!!!

You know You're a Weight Watcher member when...

. You accidentally swallow toothpaste and wonder how many POINTS it had in it.
∑ You stand in the aisles at the grocery store with your WW PointsFinder figuring POINTS before you buy.
∑ You feel your collar bone/ribs/hip bones and think you need to call 911 because something must be broken.
∑ Everyone at your lunch table is asking you to figure the POINTS on their lunch.
∑ You threaten to put your cat on WW.
∑ You figure the POINTS on cough syrup.
. Your child says there are too many POINTS in something s/he doesn't want to eat!
∑ You don't want to share ANY of your food with anyone because you've measured it and know exactly how many POINTS are in it.
∑ You know where every public restroom is wherever you go . . . you need it after drinking all that water!
∑ You realize "gram" is a four letter word.
∑ You weigh yourself before and after the bathroom just to see how much of a difference it makes.
∑ You don't mind "seeing stars."
∑ You ask your WW leader to bring in a curtain so you can weigh-in naked.
∑ Your child gets an "A" in English for turning your journal in as a book report.
∑ You convince the grocery store owner to organize the food aisles according to POINTS values.
∑ You hang your 5 pound book markers from your car antenna.
∑ You replace your college diploma with your 50 lb. magnet (now which one is actually tougher to achieve?).
∑ You Calculate Activity points for Sex!
∑ You not only weigh food on your food scale, but your clothes, keys, HAIR, socks, etc
∑ People at work know when your weigh in day is because you have the same outfit on that day EVERY WEEK
∑ you call your family to the dinner table and instead of "what's for dinner?" they ask "how many points are we having for dinner?"
∑ you take a bite and then spit it out because you realize it wasn't worth the points!
∑ you mark all the food boxes in the house with points per serving
∑ you carry your journal with you wherever you go
∑ you take Molly McCheese with you to the restaurant so you don't waste your points on butter
∑ you ask your family to hide the cookies and chips so you won't be tempted
∑ Kashi becomes your favorite snack food
∑ "On The Side" become the 3 most uttered words in your vocabulary
∑ you start parking in the back of the parking lot for the extra exercise
∑ you start wondering why restaurant servings of any meal are large enough to feed 3 grown me
∑ you start wondering how many points are in bubble gum
∑ you look down at the backs of your hands and get freaked out by how skinny they look
∑ you weigh every pair of shoes you own
∑ you spend 10 minutes in Staples looking for the prettiest paperclips for your paperclip chain
∑ you want to drive to Ben & Jerry's individual houses and drown them in a vat of Chunky Monkey
∑ you take up knitting/crocheting/tatting/rughooking/paintbynumbers to keep your mind off food
∑ the thought of having a bran muffin for breakfst gets you so excited you can't fall asleep.
∑ you dance a little jig in front of the frozen foods case in the grocery store because you finally found Skinny Cows!
∑ You stop licking postage stamps when you realize they are 1 tenth of a calorie each.
∑ know in advance, by heart, what you can eat at each and every resturaunt that DH may want to go to.
∑ instead of carrying an armful of things thru the house, you intentionally made several trips to get in that extra 20 steps of walking.
∑ you smile and gaze adoringly at the produce aisle.
∑ your junk drawer at work has been revamped to include Milky Way Lites, LF granola bars, FF Pringles and lite peach cups instead of Cheetos and snickers bars.
∑ you take a big black permanent marker and not only mark the points but also write your name and "DO NOT TOUCH OR ELSE".
∑ everywhere you go, you take along two 'purses'. Your regular purse, and your Weight Watcher's Black Bag, with the point guides, Slider, and all other 'stuff' in there!
∑ you dont wear any makeup to get weighed in , fearing it will weigh too much
∑ you see really overweight people and want to tell them they can do something to change their lives!
∑ You hold up your snacks next to your kids' and warn them that eating the wrong ones will result in their demise.
∑ the jeans that you would have never dared to put in the dryer for fear that they would not make it back over your hips... are in there right now, as you hope to shrink them enough that they won't fall straight off!

03-02-2004, 10:27 AM
Good Morning everybody!! Last night we had pizza for supper...the kids had the boxed frozen kind, We had healthy ones!! 1 Josephs low carb pita, 2 tbls medium fire salsa, 1 oz shredded parm/mozzarella cheese, slivered peppers and onions, baked on a non stick cookie sheet for about 8 minutes at 400 degrees. Also tossed in 2 oz of leftover boneless pork for our proteins on the side.

This morning I had a BLT on a 1/2 Pita.. 2 slices bacon, 1/4 tomato, and some lettuce..no mayo this morning. Had my 20oz glass of water before, and my big cup of coffee after.....

03-02-2004, 10:32 AM
Oh, my plans for the challenge. I know that 2 lbs a week is probably what I will lose. My parents come home from Florida in May. I'd LIKE to be 25 lbs lighter by then and surprise them. I haven't told them what their daughter and son in law are up to. Hubby and I are also going to California the beginning of June. I'd like to be able to shop for a summer wardrobe by then!!

03-02-2004, 10:33 AM
Hey, I like the idea of moving this to support groups..we should come up with a cool name so we're easy to find....!!

03-02-2004, 02:08 PM
Hi Guys,
Good morning. Another beautiful day, and another day to be good again!

Liss-2 lbs. is good! (In fact, my estimated 2.5+ lbs per week may be too high and I probably should adjust) That pizza sounds good, I think I'll try it with my low carb tortilla! Do they have Trader Joe's Grocery Stores in your area?

Here are my updated goals, since my original "plan" needed some tweaking:

 16-WEEKS TO LOSE 30-35 POUNDS

:strong: Exercise AT least 4 times per week, up to 6 times max. This can be thru the gym, home dvds, or just walking

:write: Up to a 25-point WW diet daily (and 25 gms of carbs for 2 weeks then up to 50 gms thereafter)

:rain: Continue my 64 oz + water intake

:comp: Journal entries posting intake, thoughts, progress, and any backsliding (heaven forbid)

I'll check in later!
Hula

03-02-2004, 02:25 PM
No trader Joe's locally- closest is about 20 miles away. I went to Walmart this morning and picked up a 20 minute workout video- Denise Austin's Shrink your female fat zones..it has 2 workouts on the tape so HOPEFULLY I won't get bored.. :dizzy: I'm late for lunch and HUNGRY...Salad today with 2 slices of ham I think.....and of course the BIG glass of water!!! I'll let you know how the video goes...

03-02-2004, 02:29 PM
Thank You for the welcome. Diana, yes those tapes are a little corny but it seems to be a perfect workout for me at this point.
I'm really afraid to say I want to lose x amount of pounds by Father's Day. What if it doesn't happen. I'd be so crushed! I will commit to doing the 2 mile WATP tape 6 days a week. That's 12 miles a week. Plus sticking to the food list on the South Beach Diet.

I'm also going to be documenting this weight loss on black & white film. I'm hoping to add an artistic element to it, perhaps to show my emotion through the challenge.
Let me fine tune the rest of my goals and I'll share them as well.

03-02-2004, 02:54 PM
Hula Baloo, I have jsut finished reading "the lord of the rings" series, and now I'll watch the movies. Glad they're good. Thanks for the welcome. Points for 160 is 22 per day (I think, I'll check in my book later) This is lower than the old program as you don't build up unused points in a bank, you get them at the beginning. So you ahve 35 flexpoints for the week, you can use 5 a day, or all 35 in one day, or whatever, or you can not use them at all. People in my meetings are finding that they lose faster when they use their flexpoints, as the body burns faster (or something). There are also activity points where you are rewarded points for exercise that you can use as well. Maybe you already knew all this, sorry.
Lissandy, going on a vacation sounds fun. DH and I are going in Feb of 2005. I really need to lose by then.
I don't even know what trader joes is?
Lissandy, how did the video go?
Denise, making a film. That's super, I'm not that talented, but sounds really interesting!
Well, I have tons of work, gotta go

03-02-2004, 04:10 PM
I will admit I couldn't get thru the LOTR books until I saw the first movie. Try as I might, I just couldn't get the names and the places straight. The Fellowship really changed that for me. I absolutely LOVEthe movies and can't wait for the 3rd one to come out on DVD..I have both the extended and theater version of the first 2- I'd have had NO problem with 4 hour movies the extended versions are so good!

My Dr. recently told me that walking, tho good for our well being, is not an effective way to lose weight. I tend to agree with him if you are JUST walking and not curbing what you eat. I just finished 1/2 hours worth of Denise Austin...OMG am I out of shape...!! :tread:

03-02-2004, 06:36 PM
Don't hurt yourself with Denise. I have an old one of hers, Super Stomachs, that one kills my non-existant abs  And with the walking, I think if you eat whatever you want and walk, you probably stay the same, but eating right and walking, does bring results.
I'll have to get the LOTR videos soon Do you know when the 3 one is coming out?

03-02-2004, 06:51 PM
LOL no kidding! At one point I said no freak** way can I do that, so I repeated some of the earlier exercises. I also have some older Tony Little stuff that I like. Heck, I've spent enough time in ladies workout worlds to know what exercises to do, it's just a matter of doing it!

The rumor mill says that ROTK is coming out in May...I sure as heck hope so. Hubby and I frequently have a 'disc 2 nite'- which means we put the second disc in the DVD player in our room and promptly fall asleep! Great for those nights when there is nothing on TV!!

03-02-2004, 09:59 PM
Hi Everyone,
Just popping in for the evening. Stuck to 22 points today (thanks for the range DewCan, I'll use "22" and I appreciate the info.!!!) and 20 carbs for the day. It's only 5:45pm so I'll really have to drink a lot of water tonight so that I don't get hungry again. Will do Power 90 Sculpt workout video and watch "Lost in Translation" with DH.

Liss-Trader Joe's has a bunch of great low-carb foods so let me know if you need some suggestions next time you're out that way! The video sounds good, is there one for shrinking my whole body? :)

Canon-Yeah, I guess it's good to aim realistically but I'm sure all of us will be happy with just "losing" anything! That is so cool to document the journey on film. Good incentive to not backslide. That is very artsy!!!

DC-Wow, kudos for finishing the LOTR books. I'm the type to start reading five books at one time and then never finish. You'll love the movies. I need to watch ROTK again because there was a blackout here in the city when I saw it and I didn't get to see the ending! We all thought it was some strange, abrupt ending at first.

I'm in! I'm trying to get down to a size 12 by the end of June so the timing of this works great for me! I started WW on Jan 7th with a personal goal of an average of 2 pounds per week. Worked out great for the first 5 weeks then week 6 and 7 were just awful :( I kept on program and added extra workouts but gained a pound and a half, I was ready to cry...

I've kinda decided that a goal of averaging 2 pounds a week is unrealistic for me and setting me up for failure and I dont like failure ;)

My current goal is down 30 pounds by end of June and to be in a size 12. God I hope I can do this! I know thats still a lot but its more of an average of 1.5# per week.

Anyone have any tips on getting rid of your tummy?

03-03-2004, 01:42 AM
Hula, how did the workout go? And the movie? Rental or theatre? That's hilarious about the ending of ROTK, wouldn't that have sucked
WaterNymph, I've been thinking of cutting my tummy off, wouldn't that be nice? Were you eating all your points when you gained? How about your FP or AP?
gotta go too bed,
oh today was my first day back OP, and it went well. I had 21 points, meant to have a snack tonight, but don't feel like it, weird :dizzy: Oh what day do you all WI?
goodnight, Diana

I think cutting off my stomach is a great idea. Except for the small little fact that I really can't deal with pain.

Today, Wednesday, is my weigh in day and I'm finally seeing the results of all my working out! I'm down 4 pounds this week!!!!!!!

03-03-2004, 01:13 PM
Can I get in on this? I am new to the boards and this would be a great starting point for me. I am currently at 207 and want to be at 187 by fathers day.

I am counting calories and excercising heavily. I would love to get in on this challenge.

Congrats on your weightloss Water Nymph - that's awesome!!!!

03-03-2004, 02:44 PM
Hi Everyone,
WELCOME new members Water Nymph and AZKitty - great to have you on board!

WaterNymph-You're going to do it! Just stick to your plan, exercise and journalling and the 16-weeks will be over before we all know it. Congrats on your 4 pound jumpstart :bravo: We will all be lighter by Father's Day (whether it is 15 pounds or 40 pounds!!!) Don't cut your tummy off because you'll need it to store all of the water you're drinking :p I wanted to share something that happened with me as far as weight gain, or stagnating when starting a plan. I originally attempted my "plan" about a month ago but ended up GAINING too. So sadly, I went off the deep end and started eating again when I saw that the scale didn't move. Well, when I talked to the trainer at the gym he said that it was because of my new exercise program and that my muscles were already starting to come out and of course muscle weighs more than fat. I'm sure everyone knows this, but it is true because I felt slimmer but my scale didn't reflect it. It may take time for the body to adjust to your new exercise regimen. :chin: JUST SOMETHING TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN WE WEIGH IN!!!

AZKitty-You are so IN!!!!! Let's do this :grouphug:

DewCan-I did do the Power 90 Sculpt last night and surprised myself. And you know what, I don't want to turn back now meaning I am 100% committed to losing this fat!! I'm glad you're all here with me. We rented the movie, it was pretty good/funny. I like seeing other cultures so I enjoyed it (hubby was snoring after 30 mins. though! Good job on sticking to your points - how many are you allowed per day? My weigh in day will always be SUNDAY. How bout you?

Hope everyone else is doing fabulous!!!!

Hi everyone....I hope I am not too late. I actually began my weight loss journey again on the 29th and post elsewhere on the board. But I would love to have group to help me on my journey and having a 16 weeks goal would be great. I have lost 5 pounds since I started and I am sure its mostly water but I dont care. Here's my plan to meet my goal of 30 pound loss by father's day. (I am hoping for more but everytime I say i want to lose 45 I get a lecture so I am sticking to 30 and if I lose more than great!)

1. Give up Alcohal (big factor with me)
2. Do my 2 mile WATP six days a week. (I love this exercise)
3. Take my mutlivitamin EVERYDAY (I am bad)
4. Drinks tons of water
5. Stick to good carbs and low fat (except for salmon which is good fat, I dont want my hair to fall out)
6. Post my progress and admit any cheated as regulary as possible.

I know I can do this and I thank you all in advance for letting me join your group.

Today my meals consist of an Oatmeal protein suppliment for breakfast (I can't stand eating breakfast so I usually have it at 11 am) Lunch is Chicken (white meat only) soup with tomatoe, mushroom, onion and broccoli. Dinner is salmon with green beans.

I dont snack so that one thing I dont have to give up. Have a great day all!!!!

03-03-2004, 03:14 PM
Hello everyone I just registered today after reading your challenge. You guys inspired me to register and to follow this challenge.

I'm currently on a diet doing Low-Carb (my way). I started on Tue. 3/2 and will love to do this challenge with you all til Father'd Day. It's only been 2-days, but so far so good.

I've done Atkins/low carbing last year and lost approx 45 lbs., but in the last 2-months packed 25lbs back on and I'm very disappointed in myself. This last week I found the strength again to restart and this time I will reach my goad no matter what with your help and the God's.

I started really dieting back in Feb. 2002.

1st Beginning weight: 261 lbs.
Current Weight: 199 lbs.
Goal Weight: 140 lbs (by Father's Day)

Looking forward to hearing from you all. :) :)

03-03-2004, 04:35 PM
Welcome to all the new chicks joining this challenge!
I'm just checking in(wed 3/3). I didn't exercise yesterday, plus I hit a small bump in the road, or so it feels like it. DD had lessons I had to take her to last night before dinner, ran to the store after the lessons. Bought good things and had to buy something quick for dinner. I had a Healthy choice meal...What a tiny little snack that was, lol. I caved and had 2 small pieces of pizza also, minus the thick end crust. I was so hungry. I know part of the problem was I didn't get enough Calories/protein earlier in the day.

I'm back on track today, have logged in my breakfast into fitday.
I'm so lazy about veggies. I bought an already cut up bag of veggies last night. Plan on getting those little guys in my diet!

I started my Photo documenting this morning also. I hope to get more done this afternoon as well.

I'm not happy about going off my plan so early in the game but I'm being honest about it, which is painful, I don't want to be a failure! I must plan better for those times when I know I'll be away from home!!

How's everyone doing?

03-03-2004, 07:53 PM
I'm checking in early for the evening. A warm welcome to Trixi and Pat - glad to have you with us!! :grouphug:

Trixi-Congrats on the 5 lbs. :bravo:! Great way to start off. Your plan sounds good and you are lucky you are not a "snacker" - that will make things a whole lot easier! You've come to the right place for support and heading towards a measurable, mutual goal together.

Pat-Congrats on your 20 net pounds lost :bravo:! Don't look back, only forward to making some changes for the better. I'm doing low-carb too so we can swap ideas, etc.

Well, I did good today. Had 20 points and will probably have a light salad w/ tunafish for dinner (3 points, 3 carbs). Went to Pilates Mat class at noon, so I'm feeling pretty good! (This is progress for me, I usually self-sabotage my diet by the second day)

So, for the group we have (please tell me if I left anyone out, I hope I didn't):
Water Nymph

You guys, remember that this challenge is for support and sharing our successes, obstacles, and challenges on this journey. Never feel like you can't come here if you backslide or if you are not losing as quickly as others. I made the mistake of dropping out of a wonderful group/website last month because I was ashamed that I wasn't working out as much and not quite losing anything. Afterwards, I realized that I really did need the support to do this, which is why I wanted to start a challenge. Also, if you don't get a personalized response to a post, don't take it personally. Hi, everyone. I would like to join the group. My weight has been a struggle ever since my 20's, right after the first baby. I weigh 200lbs. now and would like to lose about 60lbs. My 40th birthday is in a couple of days and I would like to be healthier and lighter this decade. I'm having trouble trying to get started. I do good at breakfast, then it is downhill from there. Any suggestions? :?: Thanks!!!

I look foward to talking to all of you :) jelly-belly

03-03-2004, 09:22 PM
Welcome Jelly-belly, glad your here! Thank you Hula for saying this:

Also, if you don't get a personalized response to a post, don't take it personally. I fall into that bunch. I'm reading it all but find it challenging time wise to go back and make exact notations. Please don't feel bad if I don't mention someone or something specific. I will try to be an encourager for you guys while keeping myself in line.

I did my 2 mile/ 30 min. walk workout, plus 20 mins of crunches and leg lifts.

I've tracked all my eats today on fitday. The carb count seems high. I'm new to SBD so not really sure what a days carbs total up to? I'll have to research that. I've stayed within my Phase 1 limits today.

Heeelllloooo! I used to be a regular to this website, but I fell out of the habit and quit. As a result I lost my motivation and gained back some of the weight I originally lost. I would love to get back into the swing of having people who are supportive to share with. I know this website is what helped me to loose the first 60 pounds 2 years ago. I originally started at 245 one year after my daughter was born. I managed to get down to 166. Now I am back at 182. Please help me with the motivation!!!!

Good evening everyone! I made it through the day and didn't cheat once!!! I even had to do laundry after work (13 loads) and I work till six but had a late meeting so I did not get out until almost 6:30, we went and did the laundry and I got home about 8:30 (gee that was fast) and I even did my exercise. I made sure I did it right away cause I know if I would have sat down that would have been it for the night. Bad thing is I just finshed my dinner. Its late but is was only a bunch of green beans (mostly water right?) and a piece of salmon so I thats not too bad.

My diet when I stick to it consists mostly of Chicken, Fish and lots of veggies (gets boring but I dont hate the food) I can't stand fruit so I dont eat it. If I really crave I have alittle bit of cheese (no carbs) I tested my ketones after I exercised and I was burning at a moderate rate which is really good for me.

Boatingmommy: the day I got pregnant (t'was a good day) I weighed 120 and the day after I had her I weighed 180!!! and I have lost a bit here and there but never really stuck to it. I was one of those believers every time one of my "friends" told me I didnt have to lose weight I stopped. But not this time!!! I will do it and I am thankful for all the support I feel I will be getting from you guys!!! and I hope to give some in return. And since everyone else is doing I am putting my goal back upto 45 pounds by Father's day

Here's to us Father' Day Chicks

Well, I just wanted to post again before the night is over now that DD is asleep.

I started my "attempt" to lose weight after the new year, but flopped. For me it is a total mind set and I really have to make the commitment with my head before anything will happen. So, starting Monday I decided to make some changes. I keep complaining that there is no time for me to excercise. Everytime I tried to commit to doing it after dinner...dishes ...laundrey...you gals know the routine, I'd run out of time and not do anything but sit on the couch with a bowl of popcorn. The past three days I have gotten up an hour earlier and done the WATP 2 mile walk before anyone else is even out of bed. I love it! It really gets me going. Then I have been doing another aerobic tape after dinner, dishes, etc. for the bonus workout. That way if I don't get to it I at least did my 30 minutes. I have also replaced the usual lunch of sandwhich and chips with a slimfast shake. I hope it will start showing some results.

Jelly, I am not quite to 40 (36 and thinking I'll stop there) but I happened to think today that my 20 year class reunion is in two years and I really would like to hold my head high (and my tummy in) for that momentous occasion. Yikes! Where did the 18 1/2 years go?

Well, hope everyone has a positive and successful day tomorrow!

Hi everyone!

Its been a great day, starting out with a nice weigh-in that made me happy at work all day long. Went to the gym right after work, who would have thought that "I" would ever be working out on a regular basis? I hate exercise! Its been great tho, I feel so much better after working out and I know it will only help me get to my goal.

CanonGal - I love the idea of photo documenting this time. How are you doing it? Online or pictures up in your house?

Hula-Baloo - Thanks so much for starting this challenge. Its great to have somewhere to come and get AND give support!

Jelly-Belly - Welcome! One of the things that helps me keep motivated and on-track is a goal. I'm off to London for 3 weeks in July and want to look my best. Having this goal may help you out :) Good Luck!

Boatingmommy - Way to go for making time for yourself!

Question for the group - how often and for how long do you work out?

03-04-2004, 03:15 AM
Hey FDC's (Father's Day Chickies per Trixi)
We have two more new members in case you haven't read -- Welcome JellyBelly and BoatingMommy!!! Looking forward to the journey with you guys on board!

CanonGal- I'm glad you mentioned Fitday! For anyone not familiar with it http://www.fitday.com it is a service where you can track your progress, chart it out, check nutrition, exercise data and best of all it is FREE. Check it out! I've used it to track my weight loss and it is great.

WaterNymph-You're welcome but you're the one doing all the work! And you will be thanking yourself in coupla' months ;) You're doing so good already. As for my workouts, the duration really varies depending on the activity but I would say between 30 mins - 1 hour thus far.

Well, I've been navigating this website and was trying to come up with a fun way to display our progress in this challenge and here is what we can do:

When you weigh in each week, you award yourself the following "smilies" for your pound loss. For instance:

Every 1 pound= Wizard, so that will be :wizard: by typing ":w-i-z-a-r-d:" or clicking on that smiley

Two pounds = high five, :high: or typing ":h-i-g-h:" (you get the point...)

Five pounds = group hug/:grouphug:

Ten pounds = balloons/:balloons:

Fifteen pounds = group hug + ballons/:grouphug: :balloons:

Twenty Pounds = balloons/:balloons: :balloons:

Your goal = queen :queen:

Of course you don't need to type this each time you post but go to the menu bar and then to "Quick Links" and then to "Edit Signature" where you can store and update AND also keep your relevant info such as:

Signature/nickname (ex:ShrinkingWoman2004)
Your starting weight, current weight, goal weight (ex:198/177/130)
Your start date on the challenge (ex: 03/04/04)
Your plan (ex: Cabbage Soup Diet)
Your awards:
:wizard: :high:

Your weigh-in day: (ex:SUNDAY)
And of course anything else you like (Quotes and other inspirations, song lyrics, etc.)

Let me know what you guys think. Just an idea for those not already using the "Edit Signature" feature.

Good morning all!

Woke up feeling really good today. Weighed myself and other two pounds lost. That will be the last daily weigh in I do. I will now do the weekly weight in so I can get some of those rewards!!

Busy day ahead Iwill try to post more later

03-04-2004, 12:20 PM
Hi all of you FDCs (I like that). I had a good day yesterday - rather tired though.

I dreaded my workout yesterday, but I went anyway. Wenesday is leg day with my trainer (also my most dreaded workout) and then another hour on the treadmill (this time she made me do an 8% incline)...I almost cried, but feel better today.

I ate well yesterday. I actually feel myself not liking some of the foods I used to live on....I guess that's good. I ate alot of salt though, and that made me retain water today.

Trixi, I hear ya on the daily weigh in......I am a scale addict and it can be discouraging at times.....but on good days (wow, what a motivator).

Hula Baloo - quick question for you........loving the icon rewards....do you want us to start that from our start weight in our own program, or since hour start date on this challenge?

Welcome to all of our new comrades. This makes it much easier when there is a group of us relying on eachothers' support.

Jelly Belly.....I know what you mean on stumbling after breakfast. This has been my biggest problem for years. I will do good through about 10 AM....but then go on a feeding frenzy. My worst time has been at night. I might even do good through dinner....but if I break out the wine, it's all over. I've noticed in the past 9 days that since I gave up wine for Lent it has made a big difference in my self control and ability to stay on plan. As for suggestions, I have also noticed that over indulging in water....even when I don't want it, helps.

I must say...the water is a pain when I end up having to peeee every other second! That part sucks.

Oh well - I am off to my day.
See ya.

03-04-2004, 01:29 PM
Sounds like everyone is feeling pretty good, which is awesome. I, too have felt a bit better with each day and it is exhillarating. Today, I will need to follow the 20 carb, 20 points rigidly. Last night, I had some unaccounted points (rotisserie chicken) which I need to account for today. As the rule goes: "you bite it - you write it!" so here it is. (And no, you can't get by on a milkshake technicality ;) ) For workout, I will do my Power 90 Circuit dvd. Will check in this evening to post results.

Jelly-Nighttime is my most challenging. When I cook dinner for my family, I am always tempted to have what they're having. I guess the only way to get around it is to really ration your meals - save a little extra "points" or "calories" or "carbs" (not sure what plan you're on) for the rest of the day. Meaning don't blow everything at breakfast. I know it's harder than it sounds but once you start losing weight, I think you'll be more inclined to follow.

Trixi-Wow, great job. That's amazing! Keep it up. Where are we gonna put all your "smilies"? :D

AZKitty-You're doing fabulous! Regarding the awards, you can really do whatever pleases you but I guess a good way to differentiate the pounds prior to the Father's Day Challenge is to put the pounds/smileys prior to the challenge in ( )? That should work!

Hope everyone else is hanging in there too.

Inspiration of the day:
"Begin to live as you wish to live." :sunny:

03-04-2004, 01:51 PM
WaterNymph, holy *%$&#, that is great!! :cb: :cb: 4 pounds in one week, WOW> Keep it up girl, you're oing to do this!
Hula, I'm glad you're so motivated, I wish I could get some of those vibes. I'm allowed 24 points per day plus my flexpoints and activity points. I'm trying to not use all these extra points but they are there just in case ;)
Hi, and welcome Trixi, PatMartinBrim, Jelly Belly, Boating Mommy :grouphug:
Boating Mommy, what other exercise video are you doing. I liek the WATP as well.
Waternymph, I work out 30 min per day right now, but I am upping it next week as it will be a calm week (this one is very busy!!!)
Trixi, :cb: :cb: that's great, 2 pounds, jsut picture 2 punds of butter and thin that that is off your body for good!!
AZKitty, sounds like a brutal workout, but you finished it :D :D Sounds nice having a trainer.
I'm trying to journal and count points but yesterday I went out for supper, had a salad, and it came mixed in the dressing :( Now I don't know what ot count it as, I'll have to be a bit creative. I jsut realized that I haven't worked out yet today,
gotta go

03-04-2004, 01:56 PM
Good Morning Ladies!

Sounds like everyone is doing great and working hard! I'm personally getting more excited about this journey for each one of us.

My carbs added up to 45 grams yesterday. I guess that's not off the charts but seemed high compared to some other material I've read (Atkins, Protein Power).

Hula~ I like the idea of the reward system. I can't wait for Monday when I officially weigh in.

WaterNymph~I just started this photo journey yesterday. I will get more starting photos today. It's mostly for me. I always take strong notice of my weight in photos. Those have been my ah ha moments, bad overweight photos. It's also for my artistic side and having the will power to break out of my shell of shame. I want to keep a journal of this journey.I better get started.
When I hit the 20lb loss mark, I will share a before and current photo.

I wish everyone a strong healthy day.

The Top Ten signs it's time to join the Father's Day Challenge and stick to it:

10. You're watching "Finding Nemo" with your kids and you start to wonder if the sushi restaurant down the street is open yet. :hungry:

9. You lay awake at night wondering if Jared from Subway is a real person or a paid actor. :tired:

8. You change your screensaver of Brad Pitt to Jared from Subway. :comp:

7. You finally find a nice sweater that is cute AND covers your butt and you buy two of every color of them! :D

6. You can't help but wonder if those late night infomercials about losing weight are directed only at you. :?:

5. Your pantry has become a graveyard for every diet product ever created. :sorry:

4. You can't change the channel quick enough when you see the new Trimspa commercial featuring the newly skinny Anna Nicole Smith. :yikes:

3. Dinner consists of polishing off your plate of food, your husband's, and your toddler's. :ink:

2. Up until now, you thought "yoga" was the little green guy from Star Wars. :dunno:

1. Midway through your weight loss hypnosis cd, you break out singing the Quizno's Subs Hamster commercial! :mouse:

Okay, I'll admit I based some of these on personal experience :p I'll talk more later, gotta go!

03-04-2004, 03:54 PM
:^: Just checking in today with some news about the my progross. Yesterday 3/3 was a good day for me with food intake and exercising. i at under 25 grams of carbs (even though I'm trying to do no more than 20) and I did my WATP (walk away the pound) tape and also did 35minutes on the treadmill.

Today when I weight in, I had lost 1 1/2 lbs.

Lovinig this challenge and I'm feeling really good. Hope everyone is being sucessfull and accepting the challenge. :smug:

So far:
261/197/140 ;)

03-04-2004, 05:20 PM
:joker: Hula, you are too funny!!! And about that Trimspa commercial. I love to see people who are worth millions of dollars....don't ever have to cook a meal for themselve, let alone a starving husband and child..and can hire all the motivation they want talk about how it all happens with a little pill! Ha! Like I believe that load of Bologna!

Okay, done venting now! All better!

Congrats to the losers!!! Nothing better than seeing smaller numbers on the scale to give you that natural high! I wish my scale would budge. Maybe I had better quit jumping on and off of it all day long. I think it's getting pissed at me and making up larger numbers (I wish) :s: sneaky, rotten old scale!

Dew, I am also doing Minna Lessig's Emergency Workout tape. I like her style. She's motivational without the perky annoying stuff. I have a couple of her other tapes too that I did when I first started losing weight. I need to dust them off and see if I am capable of doing them without ending up in cardiac arrest! The Emergency Workout is really Latin beat, dancey style aerobics. Pretty fun, even for a workout tape. I am working from home today and really should go back to the other computer.

Work now...chat later!

03-04-2004, 08:31 PM
Good evening ALL!! Been a crazy couple of days here, I've been working 'full' days at my sub teacher job, which actually makes it easier to stick to 'the plan'! Got on the scale yesterday and discovered that after 1 1/2 weeks of low carb eating, I'm down a healthy 4 lbs!! As for all that water..when I'm home, it's okay...but school time is tough when you aren't sure WHEN you will get that Pee break!! I still down the 20 oz's before breakfast, have my coffee, and try to get thru 16- 20 oz by lunch if I dare. Then have a 12 oz diet soda with my 5 carb lunch!! I've been having turkey or ham with lettuce ( which is a freebee!) on the Joseph's pita, a side of cuke and a few grapes for lunch..tomorrw will be tuna a la lent ( even tho I'm not catholic, I do it for the family, as they are!)...Big glass of water when I walk in the door, and then one with supper. Secret to a good night sleep? No more big glasses after 6:30pm!!
Tonight was Kentucky Fried chicken- only one piece with coleslaw and a side of salad greens.. I suppose I should check the Food guide to see how badly I did, but overall today, I was REAL good. Haven't had a chance to work out since Tuesday, and tonight's not looking real promising either...well, maybe I can lift some weights while I watch TV tonight..I"m not going to sweat it just yet.
I hope all went well with EVERYONE today!!!

03-04-2004, 08:37 PM
:dizzy: A warm welcome to EVERBODY in the group! JellyBelly, I'm glad you came on over to join us!!!!! I am also a person who forgets individual stories, maybe cuz I'm missing so much at a time!!! I know we are all going to meet a goal of good healthy weight loss by Fathers' day. Always remember, we didnt' put it all ON in 3 months, we may not take it all OFF in three months, but we sure can give it a run for our money!!!

03-04-2004, 08:58 PM
Great weight loss Lissandy you must be terribly prould of yourself !!!! I had a really great day at work but when I came home a "friend" came to the door that a couple of weeks ago I saw again for the first time in about a year and a half. The last time I saw her (three weeks ago) she looked at me and said "Dale I didn't want to say anything but you sure chunked up since I saw you last" I was mortified and then she showed up again tonight. I had just exercised and showered and in my favorite granny nightgown which makes me look even bigger!!! I am not officially depressed. I was not very friendly and did not offer her anything to drink or even a seat. I puttered around the kitchen like I was REALLY busy making my daughter's dinner and she left shortly after. Man she makes me mad. This girl used to be really big but developed a huge drug problem and lost it all that way and now she's super skinny. I dont care that she skinny because of how she got there and now her life is in shambles. Maybe that's why she wanted to make me feel bad. She lost her children due to the drug problem and knows that her daughter always wants to be at my house (the father lives on the next street and my daughter and her child are best friends). I guess I shouldn't talk about her but I am really upset that she would be so cruel. Anyway thanks for letting me vent.

I hope you all have a great night and knowing that tomorrows Friday makes me feel better already.

03-04-2004, 09:24 PM
Trixi, just a quick checking in....glad to hear that you dealt with your anger by coming here to post instead of reaching for the chips or the cookies!!!! Venting is always healthier than eating away your anger. Shame on your "friend". But, she probably wanted to take you down a chunk so that she could feel better about her miserable life. Skinny isn't everything. A happy home, marriage and children to love are much more important. Chin up!

03-04-2004, 09:36 PM
Well, looks like I blew it with a 25 carb dinner tonight!! Well, even still, I know I stayed under 40 g of carbs, which according to the book I'm reading, still okay...But I just couldn't cook tonight.

What a terrible thing for your friend to say...must be something in the air. My hubby did a similar thing to me tonight, but it wasn't weight related.

That person is no friend of yours...she's just somebody who WANTS to be a friend and thinks she may be entitled to your friendship because her daughter likes you best!! That person has nothing to be proud of, but you sure do!!

03-04-2004, 09:40 PM
I'm new to the site and registered after reading the FDC thread.

I'm a lifetime WW who has fallen off the wagon. I'm still down a whole bunch of weight from where I started, but it's beginning to creep back. I'm tired of my favorite pants being tight across my hiney and I'm even more tired of listening to myself whine about it!

On Monday, 3/1 I started the program again. I'm doing it from home because I can't find time to attend meetings - this forum and the feeling of accountability is really what I need right now.

My plan:
20 points a day
30 minutes of exercise 5 days per week
jounalling religiously

CW: 156
FDC goal: 138

03-04-2004, 11:45 PM
Welcome Mahtha!Yes, you are welcome to join us. I do WW from home too along with low carb. (Actually, I just bought the whole weight watcher's kit from Ebay and use the materials since I was already familiar with how the original "points" worked.) But your plan sounds like a good one. Keep coming here for giving and getting support and you're on your way!

So, is everyone psyched about their upcoming "transformations"? I know I am! Actually, it is a combination of excited, scared, and thrilled!
It is coming back to me, how weight loss changes a lot of things. My fat for me has always been some weird security blanket. I know it sounds
crazy but I think I kind of hide behind it (or vice versa :) Well, this "blankie" has got to go and I'm ready to part with it! I know I'll be happier, more confident, maybe a little less "needy" of people and more comfortable with myself. All the obvious things but I know there will still be other challenges once I conquer this one. But I'm ready. And if like me, you are the heaviest amongst your girlfriends we may no longer be in a few short months. We will see who is super supportive or on the flipside who is "competitive" which gets interesting. Our wardrobes will be more flexible, (I'm soo looking forward to this!!) And all just in time for Summer! But most importantly, if we do this right we'll all be healthier. I'm so glad you all are here with me.

1CanonGal-45 points is not high at all and I think some people lose on that. Do you have any idea what your "carb" threshold is? I mean the number of
carbs that works for you? I'm finding that at my temporary 25 carbs per day,I'm moderately going thru ketosis. Well, at least that's what the ketostix say! I'm excited about your photojournalism! Maybe we should all take a "before" pic. I'm afraid to see myself in pics though :^:
2LissAndy-Good to see ya' back. Excellent with the 4 lbs!! Looks like some 2 high fives are in order (Please read my post#39!!)
3DewCan-I think once we start really losing, we'll all have the "vibes". Yeah, it's good not to exhaust all your points but I never count my activity points earned so maybe that's my way of staying under. Anyway, sounds like you're doing pretty good!
4AZKitty-Hey girl, I'm sure your doing well out there.
5Trixi-She's just projecting her issues out on you and she's obviously jealous of what you have or why else would she try to get in a hurtful
"jab" like that. You handled it well. Wait 'til she see's you in a few months...
6PatMartin-Wow, way to go! Don't forget to nominate yourself some "smiley" awards!! We're proud of you.
7WaterNymph-You're probably exercising right now! Hang in there girl.
8Jelly-Hey, where's our JellyBelly?
9BoatingMommy-Yeah, I know whatcha mean about Anna Nicole! And she probably earned a couple MORE million endorsing that silly pill she never used :rollpin:
10Mahtha-please read post #39 to see how to award yourself for pounds loss. You're on board!!

Hi everyone!

Its been a busy day. Stayed on program and worked out at Curves. Its funny the last few days I haven't even been hungry, I've been under my daily WW Points. Not sure if this is a good thing as everyone keeps saying you have to eat all your points to lose weight. But how do you eat them all when you just aren't hungry?

Trixi - I know this is probably really bad advise but I'd say be catty right back at her! Tell her about some problem she has. (I'm obviously thinking evil tonight ;))

Mahtha - Congrats on re-joining WW.

Hula-Baloo - I know just what you mean by the fat being a blanket. The last few years for me have been rough emotionally and it was just easier to be fat.

03-05-2004, 01:30 AM
Just checkin in at the end of the night. Had a depressing day....I'm just kind of in a funk. I hate it when that happens.

I went to the gym today, but was sick and tired of it. I didn't do a full work out and of course am kicking myself. Hopefully I am rejuvenated in the morning. I did manage to stay within 1650 calories and burned 300 at the gym.

Hey all.....on Trimspa....have any of you ever tried it? One of my friends used it and lost steadily, so I bought it.....it just seems that any diet pill like that always makes me feel wierd - jumpy...but I can't jump....you know what I mean? The jar just sits in my cubbard now.

Anyhow......I am getting sick and tired of my meals.....so I thought maybe everyone could share their alltime favorite home cooked meal that you do when you are watching your weight and your all time dine-out favorite meal that you eat when you are watching your weight.

For me - for a home cooked meal, it is Jack Daniels (Cal Tailgate) Chile. I made this when on the weightwatchers plan, so all I have right now are points....I need to convert back to calories. I thought I would share anyway. It's my mom's recipe and I LOVE it.

Cal Tailgate Chile

WW POINTSģ value | 5
Servings | 20

main meals |

2 pounds cooked (93%) lean ground beef
2 small onion(s) chopped OR 1 bag frozen chopped onions
2- 1 pound canned diced tomatoes with juice
1- 14 pound canned (Contadina)tomato paste
2 packages McKormick or Schilling (BRAND VERY IMPORTANT) Regular (not hot or mild) Chili Seasoning Mix
12 oz olive(s) drained (I either buy small or buy large and cut into halves)
1- 14 oz canned kidney beans and juice
2-14 oz cans pinto beans (one with juice and one drained (cuts down on the fart factor(I don't even know hot to spell that word  )
1/4 cup whiskey (Gotta be Jack Daniels!) :dizzy:
1/4 tsp chili powder
1 tsp table salt
1 tsp black pepper

Brown the ground beef and onions and then dump everything into a large crockpot. Stir it up and put it on high until it boils (you can do this in the morning when you are getting ready). Then turn it to low and simmer for 6 hours. Stir Occaisionally (you don't have to if you are at work). Voila. I top with soup crackers and 2% cheddar (but this obvioulsy adds points). Be careful on the JD ( 1/4 cup is perfect). Also, you can always add more chile powder later. Test it before serving.

As for dining out: It's gotta be Rubios chicken Healthmex burrito topped with salsa.......YUMMY!

Anyway - I would love some of your ideas...I am SOOOOOOOOOO sick of chicken.

Hopefully tomorrow is a better day.

I also wanted to welcome Mantha. I am so glad we all have eachother to share on this journey.

Canongal - I also love the idea of a picture diary and would love to know more about how you are doing that if you would like to share.

Hula Baloo - I dream about my transformation. I dream of the days when I could wear all the cute clothes and just can't wait to be "hot" and today I feel so "NOT" - not "hot". I feel ignored. It will be scary when I am transformed, but the confidence will feel good. I have not looked people in the eye for so long because I am so ashamed of myself. Just to be able to be nice and not angry at everyone else for my fat (when it's really me I am mad at)will be nice.

To everyone else.....sounds like you are all doing fairly well out of the gate. I only hope I can keep up....Correction...I will keep up! :D .

Till tomorrow.

03-05-2004, 01:34 AM
I'd love to join you gals on the Father's Day Challenge. I lost 45 lbs, but have gained at least 10 back and I can no longer button my pants! :o Plus I'd like to lose another 10 after that. I was doing so well, and then stress reared it's ugly little head. I've got to get back to the basics... exercise, drink my water and stop eating! You all sound so motivated. I think this is just the group I need.

03-05-2004, 01:36 AM
We welcome you Den@!

03-05-2004, 08:05 AM
A quick good morning, as the school system needs me yet again today..AZ Kitty, you just keep coming here for support..we wil be here for you. I will see if I can find some recipes for you.. As for me, I eat the 'usual' stuff while I'm counting carbs my way, but avoid anything starchy like corn, potatoes, rice, breads, etc. I am currently using a low carb pita bread for sandwiches. Bulk up on alot of greens, that helps fill the hole and not give you calories!!!! I will catch you all tonight!!

03-05-2004, 10:51 AM
Good Morning everyone..I feel much better today. ITS FRIDAY!!!!!

AZKitty...I know exactly how you feel and I am sure everyone one else who has made a committment to do this challenge has gone through the same thing. Keep at it and it will pay off. Once you notice a difference your confidence will soar. I am not sure if you like fish but my new favorite meal is Salmon fillet topped with a few shrimp cooked in lemon and Vegeta spice in the oven (covered) for 30 minutes. I eat with buttered (just alittle) asparagus and I swear when I eat it I feel like I am cheating cause its sooooooo yummy. Theres no dryness that comes with chicken if its not perfect. I hope this one helps!!! I eat butter cause besides that salmon is the only fat I get and I am a firm believer that ones needs a little fat to stay healthy.

Last night after I posted I did not reach for the chips and cookies (only cause I dont like them) but rather had 3 beers.... bad trixi! Afterwards I just had a tummy ache was was super tired so I got no enjoyment out of it. Maybe that will help keep me away from the temptation this weekend.

I hope you all have a great day and will post more tonight.

Happy Friday Everyone! I see that it's Jelly's b-day today :hb: so have a great one JB, from all of us FDC's. Well, it's almost our first weigh for a few of us, so that means we really have to try and be good thru the weekend. That probably goes for everyone since weekends ARE a challenge for most!

For me, this is really the furthest I've gotten on my "plan" in a year. I worked out 4 days/7 so far and that is progress. I'm seeing everyone else working out and that is really keeping me motivated, so thank you! Last Feb I was 182 and managed to lose 22 pounds but never followed thru on the remaining 30 pounds. I told myself that this Summer I HAVE to be at my goal weight and failure is not an option. So, that is why I'm so serious about doing this. Last Summer I was not happy at all and did not enjoy myself, in fact I avoided a lot of cool outdoorsy activities because of my weight, and I don't want to miss out anymore. I'm sure a lot of you feel the same.

Today, I will follow a 22/22 plan. Up to 22 carbs, 22 points and see how that suits me. No exercise today since I am aiming at working out Sat/Sun totalling 6/7 yay!

WaterNymph-You're tummy is already shrinking. I don't think you should use all your points if you are not hungry. It's good to build a reserve because when you are eventually hungry again, you can eat something you really want! I'm glad you understand my fat blanket, it's almost a test for me to see who has my back and who really cares about me unconditionally or something.

AZKitty-Don't be down on yourself, it is good you worked out at all. I've been in many a funk and you will get out of it. Keep your chin up. I am going to try your chili sans the beans but with a low carb tortilla , I Love JD so I'm all over that ;) When I up my carbs, I can add the beans back in. My favorite meal dining out is usually any seafood item w/ a side of veggies and I'm currently on this crazy low-carb Chinese food craving phase where I only want: either Shrimp w/ Scrambled eggs or Shrimp w/ Broccoli with NO MSG since MSG messes up your insulin/carb intake! I'll have to think about my alltime favorite homecooked meal, there are so many.

Dena-Welcome! What's your plan-o-action? Good to have you here. Your goal is 20 lbs?

Trixi-That sounds soooo yummy. Where do you get Vegeta spice?

Liss-I'm going to check online for the Joseph's Pita!

Have a great day all. I will probably check in tomorrow since I will be out tonight. Good luck to everyone.

Inspiration for the day:
Failure is only a fact when you give up. Everyone gets knocked down, the question is: Will you get back up? :sunny:

AZ Kitty- I don't know about Trimspa. If it makes you feel funky, or if you have any reservations --- don't take it! A few years ago I took Metabolife and it made me feel jittery and weird. My general advice is to try and not take anything if you can. You never know what the long-term side effects will be (case in point: Metabolife w/ "Ephedra", Fen-Phen and the major side effects.) I actually took Fen-Phen back in the days because my boss suggested it and I was soo mad after because it was highly dangerous and eventually pulled from the market. Sorry if I'm scaring you.

Favorite meals? This one's one of my all time faves:

Spray a nonstick pan with Pam. Saute some garlic. Add a handful of shrimp, a package of frozen artichoke hearts (thawed) a bunch of sliced mushrooms, a 1/4 cup or so of white wine and cook until everything is heated through. If I have enough points left I add a spoonful of grated parm (the good stuff!) This is heaven on earth served in a bed of pasta! I make it with boneless chicken breasts too, but make sure you pound them thin and cook thoroughly before adding all the other stuff. YUM!

Wow, you guys have been busy posting away. I love it!

~Den@, Welcome to the FDC.

~Hula, I can relate to what you said about the fat being a security blanket. This is true for me. Somehow I don't know why. Why would I want to hide behind a wall of unhealthy living and allow others to look down on me based on some insecurities and hurts. This has to be the moment of moving forward only. NO excuses, NO looking back, It's all forward motion from here and it will only get better. Each day of healthy living is a HUGE step in the right direction. I am very excited about the new me!!
I don't know what my carb threshold is. I'm just going to trust in this SBD and see how I fare after 2 weeks.

~AZKitty, How I'm doing the photos. Not revealing to awful much. I have used the bathroom mirror so far and done self portraits. I drapped a black cloth over the shower so it wouldn't show into the mirror.I've taken some photos of me standing on the scale hiding the weight :o . Basically all self portraits. The one thing I did reveal that I hate is this " lipoma" I have. I will have it removed hopefully this summer. It is about the size of a big lemon protruding from my waist line. I absolutely HATE the thing. It has to go!! Lipomas are fat cells gone wrong.

~Chickies, Stay strong, Plan ahead and be succesful through the weekend!!

I'm looking forward to Monday's weigh in. I did see a 2 lb loss today but Monday is what counts. Yesterday was good. I focused on drinking LOTS of water. I had about 3/4 of a gallon. I will try today for a full gallon. Yep, running to the bathroom about every 10 mins.
My upper back was very sore yesterday from the previous days workout. I pushed it hard. So I didn't do the WATP yesterday. I'm going to do it twice today! I did get a lot of house type work in if that counts for anything  .

03-05-2004, 02:37 PM
Happy Friday, Everyone! And thank you for the warm welcome. :)

Hula, you asked me about my weight loss and plans. Well, here goes. I got up to 177 lbs. and was totally miserable. Couldn't cross my legs, couldn't sit right in a chair and my clothes looked awful. I, too, didn't like to go to many functions. Then I started counting cals, exercising diligently and drinking 8 glasses of water. I lost 45 lbs. But then I just started eating again. I fell short of where I wanted to be. I'm afraid to get on the scale right now. And I have dreams of returning to where I was. Scary thought. I guess 20 lbs. is the number I'm shooting for. But most importantly, I want to get back to eating right, exercising and drinking my water. I feel so much better when I do the right thing. Plus I haven't gone shopping in a long while.

OK, for the good part, this morning I ate a slice of Trader Joe's French Toast- 130 cals of 1400 cals total, I went for a brisk walk for 30 minutes and I'm on my 3rd glass of water. I think I should start watching my carbs, too. You gals are really motivating me. Thank you! :thanks:

Happy Birthday, Jelly!!!! :hb: Hope you have fun.

Have a great weekend, everyone.
Started: 177, CW 147, goal: 127.

AZKitty - I know several people who've taken Trimspa and it doesn't make you jittery but it also doesn't make you not have to diet and exercise. Actually the people I know that are taking it, it hasn't made a difference at all. They lose when the diet and they donít lose when they donít diet. Also, when you lose weight with a pill youíre more likely to gain it all back once you stop taking the pill. I should know I think Iíve tried 90% of the diet pills out thereÖ

Den@ - Welcome to the group!

Trixi Ė Congrats on not reaching for the cookie! I know how big that is.

Hula-Baloo Ė Way to go on the 4 workout this week! Hasnít it felt great to work out? Iíve just completed my 5th straight week working out and I know I feel so much better.

You should NEVER avoid stuff because of your weight! Even if you weigh more then you want going out and enjoying yourself will help motivate you to lose even more! So go out! Enjoy life! Donít wait around for some magic number on a scale to give you permission.

CanonGal Ė 2 pounds! Iím impressed! Iíll have to try to compete with you ;) my weigh in is on Wednesday.

Hila-Baloo said something that made me think. Which one of your friends will be truly supportive and which will become jealous or just not care? Iíve already been noticing which of my friends seem to be happy for me and which havenít even mentioned the fact that Iím losing weight. Iíve been thinking its just indifference to it as most of my friends are skinny and donít understand the whole concept of actually having to watch what you eat and the need to lose weight. Its been 8 weeks since I started my new life and its already made a huge difference to not only me but my relationships with people.

My weekend challenge: Iím going to be going to Catalina Island this weekend (Sun and Mon) and I really need to stay focused on what I eat and how much exercise I get. It always seems so much harder to stay on program when youíre away from home.

03-05-2004, 03:27 PM
places" since I'm always here. Can't wait to try everyone's recipes.

1CanonGal- You nailed it: "This has to be the moment of moving forward only. NO excuses, NO looking back, It's all forward motion from here and it will only get better. Each day of healthy living is a HUGE step in the right direction. I am very excited about the new me!!"

7WaterNymph-Yeah, working out makes a huge difference in every aspect of my life! You are absolutely right about going out, seizing the day and enjoying life. I hope the rest of you gals have a similar healthy outlook like Water Nymphs!. I know I should not let my weight stop me but unfortunately it does, but that is just me. I mean, I still have fun and do a lot of fun things but I don't go for it full throttle, like rock climbing, outdoor cycling, etc. like I should. I live in a city that lots of things to do, that aren't sports-related so that is good for now. Who knows, maybe when I get to my goal weight, it won't be the complete answer - but I owe it to myself to find out. So, please - I hope I didn't get anyone down! This week has been a week of major change and awareness and I am already starting to feel the effects of making this happen. Hope you have a wonderful trip to Catalina Island!

11Good choices. I too, am a TJ gal. I absolutely love this store for just their low-carb selection. We'll have to share our favorite products.

Bye for now (really this time :)

You guys are so inspiring to read!! And you've all been posting away! That's so great!!

I just ran across these boards today - I posted a hello msg and all - and then I found this "Father's Day Challenge" - and I think it's wonderful!

I'd love to join in with you guys for this challenge!!

I have about 85-90lbs to lose before I'm around my goal weight - so not sure I'll make it completely by that date - but I'd love to give it a run for it and see how far I can get!

I have currently been just watching what I eat and exercising - several people posting here have mentioned fitday.com - so I'm going to try counting my calories there and keeping up the exercise!

Dianna77 - Welcome!

Hula-Baloo - Where in California are you? I'm in West LA.

03-05-2004, 04:56 PM
 Enjoying a little sunshine here, wish it were a little more sunshine and warmer temps, but I'll take what I can get. Doing really good for the first week. Been getting up and doing the excercises and eating way less. That is my plan. Just cutting the calories and getting the old body moving more. I have had a lot more energy this week, too. I am kinda surprised....hope it stays this way.

Gosh, you gals are all sounding so motivated. It really helps to hear that everyone else is doing so well. Makes you not want to be the one who goofs up!

Hula, I know it is hard for me too sometimes to get out there and "let it all hang out" so to speak. I go by Boatingmommy because we live our lives for camping and boating in the summer. I have been really out of shape, but tried not to let it keep me from doing the swimsuit thing. Now I am just thinking about how much MORE fun it will be to do these things in a smaller, healthier body. CAN'T WAIT!!!

W-Nymph - Catalina Island sounds so wonderful!!! Right now, anywhere but the middle of Illinois sounds wonderful!

Happy Birthday, Jelly!!! :gift:

Cannon - I was on a thread a year or two ago and the person who started it, Gennel, did a photo diary and every once in a while would post her pictures. It was AMAZING the difference in her appearance. She was a real go getter and I only hope I can stay that motivated and see those changes in myself...I hope we all will.

Well, promised the kiddo that I would be at the door waiting for her when Kindergarten lets out. HAVE A GREAT FRIDAY NIGHT EVERYONE!!!

03-05-2004, 06:52 PM
:gift: :hb: Happy Birthday JB!! Hope you ENJOY your birthday! Dont' be afraid to eat tonight- just eat sensible! Enjoy your cake, and think of those of us tonight who WISH they could be enjoying some with you!! I'm going back to my celery sticks now!!!!

WOW - you guys are really inspiring and I want to join too

I have lost weight several times in my life but just turned 50 and the thought of staying this weight is really depressing. I know I need some accountability so here I am.
I have tried many different diets, but I am such a picky eater I get bored fast
I recently bought Joyce Vedral Fat Busting videos - (light weight lifting) and started them with my 25 year old daughter

1- do the JV videos (20 min) 4-6 times a week
2- walk 30 min 4 times a week
3- Keep a food journal - watch the carbs and calories
4 - drink 6-8 glasses of water each day

Just a quick note before I go out for the evenng. Got my exercise in and feel great that I did not put it off.

Welcome to all the new people. This thread is growing strong and everyone seems really motivated.

I agree with you boatingmommy about not wanting to be the one that goofs up  Reading everyones posts got me thinking better and feeling better.

Have a great night everyone and may we all return tomorrow a little lighter and alot brighter!!!

Lissandy, you did wonderful with your loss :cb: :cb:
Trixi (Dale) I agree with BoatingMommy, you have a wonderful life and so many great things in it. Your "friend" is probably trying t omake herself feel better by putting you down. People like that aren't good to have around at all. I feel badly for her daughter (and you of course).
Hula, on the blankie, I have a very thick one and it makes me hot in the summer. Oh, I hate myself in pictures too. We got all these wedding pic done and have none up because I hate how I look.
Welcome Dena
Pat, that's great, a loss and a good one!
welcome Mahtha, you have 18 to lose and that's what I've lost so far, I just noticed it ;)
Happy B-Day Jelly Belly. :balloons: hope you had a wonderful day!
Welcome, Dianna and Deenie, now there are 2 Diana's but one has 1 'n' (me) and you have 2 'n's.
So ladies, I lost a pound this week, I'm not sure when to reward myself wit hte smilies, but I'm down just the same. I'm moving tomorrow for 2 months and I wanted to say goodbye for a while. I'm not sure how often I'll be getting on line out there. But I'll still be on my program.

03-06-2004, 10:18 AM
Good Morning, Everyone!
I'm so excited to report I had a great day yesterday. I stayed below 1400 cals, exercised and drank my 8 glasses of water. (I even took my vitamins.) :strong: The best part of all is that we went out to dinner and I ate only 1/2 of it!!! (1/2 of a small steak, 1/2 of a baked potato with steak sauce--no extra fancy stuff on it, like sour cream, etc.-- and green beans. Only ate a small piece of bread. Wow, who knew it could be done. And I had a great time, too!!! Plus I have leftovers for today.

One day under my belt and I already feel like a black cloud has been lifted from my head. I love this group! :grouphug:

Diana, good luck with your move. I know that can be stressful.

Deenie and Dianna, welcome.

Now on to the rest of the weekend. Bye for now.
Dena

:D Good Morning fellow dieters....I mean life-changers. I hope that's more accurate.

Got up and had to spend the first half an hour holding a bucket for my 5 yr old to throw-up in! Not what I had in mind for the morning. I think it is mostly sinus drainage. YUCK! Sorry to gross you gals out!

After I got her settled down and back into bed with Scooby Doo on t.v. I managed to get 45 minute workout in. I am sooooo happy. I made it through the whole week and 1 day into the weekend of getting some excercise everyday. Drank my breakfast of slimfast. Couldn't decide on what regular food to eat, so I took the easy way out. I shopped yesterday and bought grapes, pears, bananas and tons of veggies. Too bad I like the veggies smothered in ranch dip....gonna not do that this time!

Goal for Saturday....stay out of the weekend beer!!! Me and Anheuser Busch are really close...but I have to break that bond!

Hope everyone else is having a fantastic day. Think skinny! Oh, I also posted a picture, actually two, of swimsuits that I would like to order for this summer. I stuck them on the front of the refrigerator to keep me in line. That skinny B---- in the picture looks sooooo smug and happy. Oh well....something to work towards!

03-06-2004, 12:25 PM
Good morning all! The group is growing - welcome to all.
Jelly Belly - Happy belated B Day - I hope it was a great one.
Sorry I did not check in yesterday - it was a crazy day and it got away from me.

I had a fair day on my plan. I worked out, but I ate a few more calories yesterday....1800 instead of my planned 1650. I ate too much salt and did not drink enough water, so by dinner time......it was pork time. I am paying for it today with excess water. Oh well, back on the horse.

Getting ready to go to the gym this morning. It finally stopped raining here. It has been an unusually cold and wet winter here in AZ. We are all sick of it....but it looks like warm weather ahead. .....mid 80s all week....Yahooo!!!!!!! To bad I'll be out of town for half of it. Going on a business trip with the boss to San Diego and then Seattle (brrrrrrrrrr).

Today I think I am going to take advantage of the weather and do some planting in my garden. It's definately looking like spring which hopefully will continue to motivate my weightloss. I really want to feel good this summer.

All - Thanks for the food ideas. CanonGal - thanks for sharing about the photos. I think I want to try something like that.

I am checking out for now. I want to go enjoy the day while I've got it. I'll check back in tonight.

Have a great day, all! I just know we are all going to do great! :dancer:

03-06-2004, 01:02 PM
Good Morning ladies. Welcome newbies!!!!
Just a quick check in for today. I'm still holding that 2lb loss. Can't wait for Monday's official weigh in. Goals for the weekend. Keep focused! Exercise and Salads/Veggies!

Yesterday was good. Stayed on track, had plenty of water. I'm having some unusual headaches. I'm wondering if it's coming form the Aspertame? I've had a total of 2 Frescas this week, and 2 teaspoons of SF jello added into other foods for flavor? You wouldn't think that little amount would trigger such awful headaches. I'm going to rethink the use of it at any rate. I know it's not good!

~Everyone~ Stay away from those tempting weekend eats/drinks. Your great reward will come in the form of being trim and fit! And hey even a new swimsuit. I don't know about you but I want a new suit and a trip to Hawaii!! Gotta Stay Focused!
Have a healthy weekend chickies, I'll be back on Monday!

03-06-2004, 01:05 PM
Good morning everyone!!!! Not such a great morning for me....just got up (I hardly ever sleep in this late) and I am feeling the effects of last night. I had more wine than I thought I would. I did mix it with soda water and think its was about total of four glasses. Man does my head hurt now though. good thing is I did not give into the pizza monster like I usually do when I had a few and get the munchies when I get home. I came home and drank a ton of water and went to bed. I was OP for the food anyway. But I had a great evening out.

When you mentioned pitcures I remembered the ones that were taken at the pool when we visited fiances grandmother last year. I thought I looked good that day. When I saw the pitcures I was shocked. They are from very bad anlges and you see everything. The worst part was that everyone was enjoying the pool and I wouldnt get into a bathing suit due to my embarrassment. One of my goal this year is when she opens her pool I will be able to get in it and enjoy the time with my daughter she is a waterbaby. The kid won't get out until you force her.

Today's plan is to do the work I brought home and clean the house. I did not weigh myself this morning cause of last night and I didn't want to feel even more guilty. I will exercise today as well. I am trying to get up the nerve to attempt the pilates dvd I bought like three weeks ago.

Tomorrow I am going to once again cook all my meals for the week. I found that really helped with time and not have to figure out what was for dinner. I did not go off program with food or exercise all week!!!! Yay me!!!

I hope you all have a great day.

Boatingmommy I hope your daughter feels better. You can't gross me out I have a 10 year old and have been through all that. Not great fun when they feel bad. I know the minute my daughter doesn't feel well cause she sleeps forever. She hasn't had a nap since she was one, unless she was ill.

Kitty enjoy the weather!!! It is chilly and cloudy today but that beats the rain we had yesterday!!!

Hula I know you will get rid of that blankie!!!!

03-06-2004, 05:02 PM
Just in case anyone prints my chile recipe and uses it...it's 1/4 tsp. chile powder. I had a tsp in there before and your mouth would be jumpin with that amount. I just put it in the crockpot for dinner. I figured out the calories with 1.25 lbs of 96% lean meat instead of the 2. It's 156 calories per 1 cup. Just in case you are interested.

03-06-2004, 07:41 PM
Good afternoon all - thanks for the welcomes - Actually there are now 3 Dianas - I am a Diana too, my brothers still call me Deenie sometimes (my childhood nickname)

I bought Dr Phils book last week and read the intro this weekend and hope to learn somethings about myself and why I have such a difficulty in the area of weight.
anyway so far today I have done well with breakfast and lunch and writing in my journal. I bought my dress for my daughter's wedding (Apr 3) and wish it was smaller but I have to face reality.

I kept myself busy today sewing - the last of the bridesmaid dresses.
We have 5 kids - from 30 to 17 and 3 of them will have gotten married in 9 mon - one last June, one in Oct and this one in Apr - I am exhausted from helping and working full time and I know that is part of the stress eating. (of course, that can't have been my excuse for the last several years!)

Hope you all have a good weekend - I logged on this am and just reread this thread - you all really inspire me and I don't want to be mess up!

See you all tomorrow

03-06-2004, 08:33 PM
Hi Everyone,
Lots of progress here already! Surprisingly, I'm actually excited about weighing in tomorrow. Did really well this first week and am now really in the swing of things. I almost don't want to miss a day working out, which I never thought would happen.

Well, just a speed-reply to some of the posts:

Dena - Sorry I meant this to you in my other post! Good choices. I too, am a TJ gal. I absolutely love this store for just their low-carb selection. We'll have
to share our favorite products.

BoatingMommy-Wow, your summers sound awesome! You already know I'm
with you on that it will be MORE fun to enjoy yourself fully. I think I'm just physically uncomfortable sometimes doing real athletic-y stuff. Anyway, we made it through the pivotal first week, hooray. Hope your 5 y/o is better. Went thru something similar a couple weeks ago, lot's of sheet changing that night!

Trixi-Those nights out are necessary. You did great, and with no guilt in
the morning! Gives me hope.

Diana77-Welcome! Yes, definitely give the challenge a run. Even if we drop 5-10 pounds, it is more than not trying.

DeenieD-Welcome Deenie! It will be exciting to track each other's progress.
You may have to eventually change your name to TeenieD though :)

DewCan-Congrats on your loss for the week. Be sure to come back when you have a chance. I know you're going to be successful. Who know the next time ya' come back, our "blankies" will just be little knit throws! We'll miss you.

Okay, hope I didn't leave anyone out. If so, please know that I check in really fast (so I don't have to hear it from the hubby who thinks I'm online too much :p )) Have a good rest of weekend you guys. I may check in tomorrow or Monday! Can't forget my Inspiration for the day (a little late, but oh well ;)

Hi all, just found this site this week and trying to find a place to fit in. I posted my bio and posted in the WLS posts, but I'll introduce myself again.

My name is Susan, married with 3 kids 16,6 & 2). I had WLS about 10 yrs. ago and went from 287 to 152, but now am back up to 185 and not very happy about it. I'm very familiar with just about all diets, as I've been on just about every one. I'm finding that what works best for me is to follow Dr. Phill's rapid start plan. That along with exercise (2 mile Walk Away the Pounds) every morning at 5 a.m. has helped me to lose 10 lbs in Feb. Which was no easy feat, at I like to snack all day and not eat regular meals. I have replaced the chips, crackers, bread, etc. with fruits and veggies, so at least I'm not feeling too deprived. The really bad this is that I really enjoy my couple of beers after work and the kids are in bed. Big time calories I know, but after a hetic day of work, getting kids to school, picking them up, shopping, cooking, cleaning, etc. I need to relax (at least that's what I keep telling myself : ) )

Anyway, I'm here to give and receive support as I would like to lose at least 25 lbs by Father's day. I hope that's not too unrealistic.

Susan in FL

03-07-2004, 12:19 PM
Good morning all....Welcome Susan I am the same boat as you about the beer I do feel more relax after everything is done and a beer makes it even more like "ahhh what a day, glad its over" But my challenge for this week is no beer at all. last weeks challenge was get use to doing my WATP, 2 mile.

I think my scale is broken and I just bought it a few weeks ago. I really wanted a digital one but this morning I weighed myself and it said the same thing as friday (which is okay) and I feel like its just not working so I went on my old regular one Whcih I have to admit I used on day one as well, and its said three pounds less. Then I did the new one again and it said 2 pounds more than the first time (URGH) then I went on the old one again (ok you can pitcure me and laugh if you like) and it said them same thing as the first time. I hope I don't make the new one feel bad cause I am never stepping on it again! I guess the old one will be it from now

So I have chosen today to be my weigh in day (along with Hula) and I have logged my progress for this week (week one) and here goes....

I exercised 6 out of seven days (didn't do it Monday cause I wasn't sure how to get in in after work but I now know I can).

I did not cheat at all with food and only missed two meals....I never eat breakfast so doing that all week was quite a feat.

I cut down tremendously on the alcohal (going to face that one next week)

I started at 183 on Sunday and according to my renewed relationship with my old scale I am now at 173!!!! that's a ten pound loss this week!!! I know its going to slow down but man am I pleased. I always loose fast at first the big thing for me is not giving up when it slows down. Or award myself with a sinful treat.

I have also made my mini goal for my fiances birthday so I am going to add another five pounds to it and see how that goes.

I know for a fact that I could not have acheived this first week of success if I did not have you girls being there every step of the way. I thank you all and hope all of you have a great weigh in as well....and you all have been an inspiration to me....

Today's plan is to finish the housework and get some of the work I brought home done. Oh yeah I have to cook all my meals for the week as well....gee I should get on it then....have a wonderful Sunday all.

Just a quick note...I just did my BMI and the 10 pound loss put me from obese to overweight... I never thought I would be thrilled with being called overweight.....ummmm

Helloo FDC's:

Mom23-Well, you're in the right place. ;) Great group of people here and very intent on doing this. Would love to see how the Dr. Phil plan works!
Looking forward to reading your posts and sharing with you.

Trixi-I'm so excited for you!! You did great this week, and every little effort really paid off. You're such a motivator for everyone. Good job.

I hope everyone is doing well out there and sticking to their plans. I was sooo tempted yesterday to eat a bowl of guacamole w/ soy tortilla chips. It was talking to me, I'm serious. :p But I had a little, and after that I didn't really want it anymore. I guess my realtionship with food is changing. Did have two low-carb beers which hit the spot. (I love my beers too girls!)

Well, I lost 5 lbs. for the week! I realize that it may be mostly water weight but I will see how it shakes out in the next week or so. Could be also that my body is going thru ketosis? Dunno, but I'm happy with any weight loss, so I'm keeping it in perspective and forging ahead.

Good morning, all! The five year old was a mess yesterday, but is her regular self today. She's already been outside to play for a while. Thank goodness that is over with!

Had a busy morning already. Cleaned and scrubbed (on hands and knees) the kitchen and bathroom. Soaked the mini-blinds in the tub to get the years worth of grunge off! Yuck! I consider myself to be a pretty good housekeeper, but YIKES the stuff that collects on those blinds! So...that was kind-of a mini workout. Plan to do at least one workout tape later today.

Was pretty good all week and feel that it was a success, although the scale shows no weight loss. I managed to work out for at least 45 minutes everyday, an hour all but yesterday. I replaced one meal with slimfast shake, and didn't pig out. Had a hard time last night, though. My mother-in-law came to stay with the kiddo while my hubby and I went to buy bathroom fixtures, toilet, sink, paint...etc. We went to Chevy's Mexican on the way home. I tried to be good, but I know the meal I had wasn't be best choice. But, my rationalization was that I did supplement one meal with slimfast and I did do my 45 minutes of exercise. The two beers were a little over the top, but that's all the beer I had all week....so. COME ON WEEK TWO!!!

Trixi - It's too funny to hear you talk about your scale trouble. I have a digital scale. I step on it three times in the morning because the first time is always different from the next two.

Gotta go! Demanding child is beckoning!

03-07-2004, 08:21 PM
Hi guys - day 3 for me!

Trixi - congratulations for getting out of the obese category - I think I will make that one of my minigoals.

MOm23- I too am reading Dr Phils book and really trying to examine the how, why etc of my self and my addiction to food. I want this to be the LAST time I loose weight - just maintaining would be so great!

I exercised last night and this afternoon - got in all my liquid and did well eating as well as journalling About 9:30 pm I was hankering so badly for chocolate I would have eaten it had it been around - but thankfully I had none.

I have to keep self-talking - but we all CAN do this!

Just checking in....

Trixi, CONGRATULATIONS, CONGRATULATIONS, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! You go, girl. :bravo: We all know it's not easy. Keep up the great work! :cp:

Hula, wow, another loser! CONGRATULATIONS on your 5 lb loss! :cheer:
By the way, my favorite Trader Joe's item right now is their Blueberry Mango Bran muffins... 210 calories and lots of fiber. Yum. I like their French Toast, too. (Found in the freezer section.) And I love the Smart Water with electrolites for only 99 cents. Love their fruit bars, too. Man, I keep thinking up things I like. I'll mention more next time. :D What do you like?

I'm going to make my weigh in day Friday. I'm proud that I've been pretty good over the weekend, though. Lately Me and hubby seem to be stessed out a lot and then go out to eat. But I stayed within my 1400 cals, am drinking my 8 glasses of water and walking.

Till tomorrow....
Dena

So I just realized that I am totally addicted to this challenge..I might have to seek therapy eventually....I have went from one addiction to another and I am lovin it!!!!.

I got everything I needed to get done today except for the work I brought home...hey they don't pay me extra and just keep laying people off even though there is still tons of work...so I don't feel bad about it.

Got all the food cooked (decided the veggies did not taste so great after they were frozen so I will cook those daily) and cleaned the house. My daughter went with my nephew and fiance to the movies, LOTR, so they were gone most of the day...it was so relaxing and I feel about ready for bed.

Thank you all for your warm thoughts and I hope Friday it just as wonderful as you want it to be when you weigh in Dena and Deenie..Keep up the great work.

Boatingmommy I am sure that you will see a loss soon. It must be all the great exercising that you are doing...gaining muscle I bet you will see your size shrink before the scale does....either way its great!!!!

Hula....I am so happy for you and you deserve your loss sooooooooo much...This week you've worked super hard..not just on yourself but motivating us as well....thank you so much for starting this thread it really has made a huge difference for me and I am sure the others as well. I look forward to our journey together both through the good times (like today) and the bad times.

Some relationships don't last 16 weeks but I know ours will......

Until tomorrow......may we all see yesterday as yesterday and today and today as a great beginning. :)

Good Morning Everybody!!!! What a weekend!! We were so busy with 'stuff', we didn't have time for sit down meals, but at least we went low carb. Entering into week 3 today..toasted with coffee this morning. I love having this 'little secret' from my Mom.
I can't believe how fast this group has grown..It's great to have so much support when we need it!!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

JellyBelly- did you have your cake? We have a birthday party to go to this weekend..it will be nice to be able to have a small piece! I'm a serious carb addict, but I have found that after a couple of weeks, you kind of really get 'into' it, and you start to miss them less, or if I do 'cave', it is only one chip or two (no potato chips- right now all I dare have in the house is Tortilla chips!), just enough to satisfy the desire.

I have to recommend the new low carb ice cream by Breyers.. It is very smooth. We tried strawberry last week, maybe I will try chocolate next time we go shopping...

03-08-2004, 10:06 AM
Had my weigh-in today and I'm now down 3 more lbs. I'm really happy and feeling good. I havn't got any carb cravings and I'm so focused.

Eating my 20-25 grams of carbs daily and trying, trying to drink my water. Hope everyone else is doing well too.

Begin wt.=261
Current wt.=194
Goal wt.=140

Good Day!

03-08-2004, 11:16 AM
:D Yeeeehaaaahhh!!! The scale finally budged, just a bit, but it did budge! Instead of 182 it said 180.5. Only a pound and a half....but that's progress, no matter how small!

Trixi, I notice you and I are at almost the same weight. Let's go girl!!! We can do this! You are probably right about seeing the change in body before scale changes. I have been doing a light weight aerobic workout and can feel that my body is firming up. Just wish the pounds would come off a little faster for encouragement. Well, I am doing all I can for now.

Hula, way to go with 5 pounds. I always think of a 5 lb bad of potatos. You know how heavy one is to carry around the grocery store? Amazing to think that you've lost a whole bag!!!! How much less your body is carrying around! Good for you :cb: !
PatMB- You aren't too far behind Hula. 3 lbs is excellent!
Dena - you must have great will power to go out and eat and keep to your plan. Send some of those "will power vibes" my way.

Well, I hope everyone has a great monday and stays on plan!

03-08-2004, 12:04 PM
WAY TO GO Boatingmommy!!!!! and PATMB!!!! Everyone is doing great so far.

Happy Monday all. Just a quick note cause I am at work. Down another pound this morning and there will be NOOOOO alcohal this week for me at all. Next weeks challenge is going to be Decafe all the way...

Hope you all have a great day and will check in tonight.

Boatingmommy...we are almost the same....its great to take a journey with someone in the same BOAT as you (hehe)

03-08-2004, 12:35 PM

Checking in real quick for this morning. My weight is holding at a two lb loss.

Congratulations to all the LOSERS!! Way to Go!!!

I'll be back later today. Gotta Run.

03-08-2004, 03:27 PM
Good News/Bad News...

I lost 4 pounds this week but found out my scale is off by 5 so I'm a pound above where I started! :dizzy:

Oh well....just keep plugging! I've kept OP and done some sort of exercise every day so eventually I'll get there.

There are so many success stories here, I continue to be inspired by all the posts. WAY TO GO GANG! :grouphug:

03-08-2004, 06:32 PM
Hey Everyone!
I'm so mad, I just typed pretty much a novel here and bam-my computer freezes and I lose everything!

Oh well, the long and short of it! Congrats to EVERYONE on their successes. You're MY inspiration. And ya' know 15 weeks is not that long, considering what we're getting in return. I really believe we were all meant to stumble upon this website and challenge for a reason.

I will type more later but know that I'm happy for everyone, and of course proud of ya' guys.

congratulations on all the losses - I love the image of a 5 pound bag of potatoes. My dh pulls out the butter packages - each one is a pound so it can add up fast.

On that scale problem - it really doesn't matter if the scale is off if you keep weighing on the same one - the loss will be good so if you started off on the scale you still have lost.

Kudos to the person going off caffiene - I just can't do without it, esp when I am not eating sweets - so I try to limit it to about 2 or 3 a day - coffee or diet coke, etc.

My problem is I get on, get off, get on, get off of the scale. I think I keep hoping if I exhale enough it will go down LOL

Anyway this is day 4 for me and this group really has me pumped - 3 days in a row of sticking to something is good for me. I am aiming to make it the whole week!! I did my journalling, my ex-tapes, and eating OK. Weather is sunny but breezy so I think I will talk DH into a walk when he gets home.

Here's to a good evening and staying on track.

03-08-2004, 09:04 PM
Mahtha, I am also in Central Mass..! Don't worry about your scale being off- as long as you use the same one for weigh ins every week, you will be fine!! My scale is also off according to the Dr.'s office, but I like mine better!!!

My problem is now staying OFF the scale! I'm weighing myself almost every morning now..quite a change from just LOOKING at it all these years!! I will probably do a weigh in tomorrow tho and stay off until next Monday.

only 16 weeks till Father's day? Hmmm..wonder if I can be 30 lbs lighter by then? Wouldn't THAT be cool!!! You all have certainly given me something to look forward to!

I made my husband laugh the other night... I said, "Look Honey, My overhang is going away!!" The good news is, HIS is TOO!! He's really the one that started the ball rolling on this low carb program, I"m just the one who keeps us to it! ( although the raviolis the kids had tonight looked AWFUL TEMPTING until I read the carb count per serving! YIKES!)

I figure we are averaging about 25-30 carb grams a day, I"m not keeping an exact count, but based upon the labels I've been reading, we are in pretty decent shape!!

Trixie- Instead of grabbing the cold beer, try a nice icy cold glass of water- I know it's not the same, but we all know how important water is in our weight loss goals!
I think I"m averaging about 80oz's when I"m home, If I'm working for the day, I have to take it easy or I run into trouble in the kids classes!!!! I never know when I am going to get a break, so it's easier to have the big glass as soon as I walk in the door, and then have at least one more before supper, and then one with our meal. By 7pm I've got my quota!!

03-08-2004, 10:47 PM
Good evening everyone!!!! Thanks for the Kudos DeenieD but your a little early thats next weeks challenge...right now I have about four cups a day with the last one being decafe and its going to be hard...Its about 9:30 and I have not reached for the beer...I am going to make it after all (my Mary Tyler Moore impression).

Busy night at home. Made homemade stew for my daughter and mother (did that smell good) which my fiance hates, so we made him a Pizza with extra cheese and pepperoni (did that smell even better) and I had my wonderfully exciting chicken breast in tomatoes..blahhhhh. I think I had enough carbs just by sticking my nose in the thing and taking a big whiff....That's what I like to do, just smell everything...Once I was out somewhere and went up to a complete stranger and asked if I could smell her fries and gravy!!

Feeling very OP tonight...exercised, had tons of water and no beer!! I don't count my carbs cause I don't get to eat any of the ones worth counting...sniff. The only carbs I get are from the veggies and even those I only eat certain kinds...no carrots, peas, or corn. I do count my protien which I make sure I eat enough everyday. I hate sweets so that makes it easier for me I can't even stand the sweetness of certain fruits. Well thats me in a nutshell..

I agree with everyone that if you weigh yourself on the same scale than the loss is the same...I would keep that scale its being nice to you by erasing five pounds. Just imaging you will be five pounds underweight when you reach your goal and the doctor will tell you you have to lose weight.

I am getting people at work asking me if I have lost weight...I say I am trying and they turn around and say I can see it in your face...like what was I before one big fatface? very confusing. ummmm

Well I hope everyone had a great day and talk to you tomorrow!!!!

03-08-2004, 11:53 PM
Makes for a really bizarre movie title, doesn't it. I had to laugh Trixi, when you said they see it in your face. I must be a total fatface myself. The first thing that I notice when I start to lose weight is that my face gets thinner almost instantly. Not my big fat butt, like I would hope, but my face. I have this fear that my head and face are slowly shrinking and the rest of me will stay the same. I will look like big game hunter at the end of Beetlejuice. Itty bitty head, big body! YIKES!!!

Oh, let's not talk about the beer. I have the annual St. Patrick's party down on the Landing in St. Louis on Saturday. I am scared to death that I'll drink too much, which leads to eating too much....which spells DISASTER!!! We always have a great time and three or four other couple always go. We've got a room at the downtown Marriot. Can't wait, but I do so want to be good! I am really talking myself into it...gotta keep the good diet vibes going!

Hula, can't tell you how many times in the past I have totally wiped out a good screen full of me rambling on and on, only to have clumsy fingers erase it all in a second. My sympathy to you, cause I know it BITES!

Hey, don't know if you gals like to grill, but I did one of my favorites tonight. Made chicken kabobs. Marinated the chicken in Light Done Right Italian dressing. Made some skewers with fresh mushrooms, winter squash, zuchini, and boiled potatoes. I use the canned potatos, then nuke the squash and zuchini for a couple of minutes to soften them up. Let them marinade for half a day and then grill. Ooolala! Yummy!

Well, it is late and my house is covered in drywall dust. Lucky me! Get to paint the new bathroom tomorrow night. How many calories does that burn. Alot, I hope.

Skinny dreams to you all, and to all a good night! :)

03-09-2004, 12:25 AM
Well....Hula....I just experienced it. I typed a message to all of you and my computer crashed as I was going to preview it - bye bye data. Grrrrrrrr.

Well BIG congrats to all the losers! Bet you never thought you would be congratulated for being a loser........(just kidding...you know what I mean  ).

Well, I had a good weekend. I stayed on plan and worked out.......then there is today........Ugh.

Today I traveled. I did good this morning and even got in my personal training session before I flew out......but tonight in my hotel room...I am afraid I blew it. I ordered a small ceasar salad and 1 appetizer crabbed stuft prawn. I know I am over on calories. The salad was large and I ate the whole thing. The prawn...you should have seen this sauce. Ugh...I blew it. :nono:

This is the first time I have traveled since I gave up alcohol for lent and I struggled with that all afternoon....oh how I wanted a glass of wine. I love a glass of wine when I am traveling and when I got to my hotel room overlooking the ocean, a chardoney sounded sooo good. I refrained. I did not drink. I guess that is the good thing....and at least I did not drink and eat...right? Gotta look at the bright side.

Well, I am going to head to bed as I have a busy day of meetings and a late night flight tomorrow to Seattle. I am in San Diego tonight and it is GORGEOUS!

Again, KUDOS to the losers! :cp: For those who didn't - hang in there - it will come.

I am supposed to weigh in on Wednesday, but I will have to weigh in Thursday as I am not home until then.

hugs and purrrrrrs.

03-09-2004, 08:14 AM
My double chin is the first thing that goes away too. I actually LIKE it..at least it's something I can SEE on a daily basis, and it makes me feel good!!

I am 'ouncing' towards the 6 pound loss mark..slowly, slowly, slowly..but that is still okay- and totally in tune with my loss per week challenge ( 2 lbs). This is week 3 of my low carb my way plan. Last night we had italian sausages that were cooked in sauce- the kids had the ravioli, and we all had a big salad. I figure it this way, the girls are also learning that life can exist on something OTHER than potatos and rice!!

We went to Wendy's over the weekend..I am totally proud that I didn't snitch ONE fry!!!

Trixie, I picked up a book when I started this weight loss.. It's a book on low carb dieting.. It gives you great ideas of what to eat, how to prepare them, etc. I have tried some of the recipes and they're pretty good! The name of the book is the 30 day Low carb Diet Solution by Michael and Mary Eades, M.D. I have referenced it quite often for ideas, and to see what is considered 'safe'. I think I play it to the extreme, but that's okay for me right now. It gives you protein sizes, carb suggestions ( and how much you can eat of them and stay 'safe' based upon what you should be eating to lose weight) and alot of 'it's okay' stuff.

Good Morning!!
I just came back from a brisk walk, and it's an absolutely gorgeous day out. I feel goooood. I really love this challenge, and you gals are really helping me stay on my toes. :thanks: Just like everyone else, I want to stay strong for our group. I don't dare get on the scale, because I'm a slow loser and I love this feeling of strength. Sometimes that scale can make me say to heck with it all. So for now I've hidden it away in the closet where I can't see it.

AZKitty, I think you did a great job considering you are on the road!! Keep up the great work! I'm super impressed with you not drinking wine and staying strong for Lent. Before our challenge, I tried to give up in-between meals for Lent and I was strong for a week and then couldn't do it anymore. I felt so defeated and bad. So super kudos to you for staying strong!

Boatingmommy, those kabobs sound yummy. You'll be burning tons of cals painting. Have fun today. Thank you for saying I have will power, but sometimes I wonder if I do. You gals are my support. And just like everyone else here, I don't want to blow it because of our group. :grouphug:

Trixi, I know what you mean about losing weight in the face first. That's the first place I lose. My hips are always last to lose.

Hula, I hate that when I lose the message I'm about to send. I've done that a few times, where I've written to everyone just to lose it all. It's totally frustrating.

Congratulations to all losers this week. Wow how many pounds is that total? A lot!!! Let's keep at it.

Hi Lissandy, I wonder how close we are!

I've had another good day. We had snow here yesterday which killed my motivation to walk, so I dragged out my rowing machine and did that for some exercise instead of blowing it off altogether - something I would have done without hesitation in the past.

Dinner was late last night because I spent too much time at the paint store choosing colors for my weekend project. Instead of eating 1/2 a box of Cheez-Its, I had some carrot sticks and another glass of water while I waited for dinner to finish up. Fortunately, dinner was worth the wait!

I'm finding I do OK when I plan menus ahead, but I just started dating somone recently and we're not yet to that "let's hang out together" stage so when we see each other it tends to be for dinner or drinks. The drink part is OK since we always pick someplace with a great band and do a lot of dancing, but the dinner part has been tough to stay OP. Good choices. Make good choices...

I think the biggest advantage to all of this has been my childrens' awareness of eating habits. D13 is on the heavy side, and I notice she is much more aware of nutritional content and making much better choices about eating. That alone is worth the effort.

Thanks again for the continued inspiration. WE can do this!!!!!!!!!!!!

03-09-2004, 02:05 PM
Doesn't make for a very good movie title, but I'm fessing up! I was bad, bad, bad last night. My TOM started and some old friends also came over to visit the same day. I was so busy having fun and I didn't even log in my Dietminder what I had eaten until the end of the night - only to see that I ate double my daily carbs AND points (so I had 52 carbs and 50 points). I feel very gross. So, there you have your first "goof-up"! :^: But I came clean, right?

My plan for the rest of week 2 to redeem myself:
I will need to make some adjustments (like adjusting my points to 20 til Sat) and work out daily 'til Saturday because I definitely don't want any of that 5# bag of "potatoes" back!!!!!

Liss-I will check out that ice cream-saw it at the store. I had the Atkins Endulge Premium Butter Pecan and it was pretty darn good. Didn't have that bad aftertaste like the Atkins i.c. cups.

Pat-Yay, 3 gone! Do you know if you are going thru "ketosis"yet? Or are you tracking it? Just curious.

Mahtha-The scales moving in the right direction so just go by that! Good job on the 4#!

Dena-I'm interested in the Blueberry Mango Muffins, I tried the Apple ones which were pretty good! Zen Bakery also makes Fiber Cakes which have like 9 grms of fiber in each muffin. At TJ's when not going low-carb I buy the TJ brand White Cheddar pirate's booty and the Dynamo Juice (has 33% calcium!). Nowadays, my staples are: the Flax and Soy Tortilla Chips, Fresh Guacamole in the box, Fresh Mozzarella (Ovolini), I'll think of others. Feeling strong is a great feeling -- keep up the great work!

Trixi-Regarding the "fatface". Funny the things people say that are "supposed" to sound like compliments. I'm sure that person meant well. I wish people would just say things like "You look great!" plain and simple. I used to get a lot of "WOW, you lost SOOO much weight!!" "You were SOOO big before", etc. It was still hurtful to me even though it was disguised as a compliment. I don't need to tell you that you are doing great and an inspiration to us all!

Boating-LOL! That Beetlejuice visual was a funny one and kabobs sound
great-I love kabobs!! (Never thought I'd use Beetlejuice and kabobs in the same sentence by the way.) Anyway, you'll do fine on St. Patty's Day (learn from MY mistake!) May sound strange but for me having that occasional beer helps me keep it in perspective, HOW BAD I WANT THIS so that added "clarity" when I have a little "buzz" going actually helps me stay motivated.

AZKitty-I admire your strength while traveling - now that is hard! It doesn't sound like you "blew it" at all. I ate three times as much last night, so don't feel bad you are doing great.

Hellooo and keep on "clickin'!" to everyone else!!

"Think of yourself as a toy train. All toy trains de-rail now and then. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back on track."

Good Afternoon Gals,
Sorry I didn't make it back yesterday. We are aiming to put our house up for sale in two weeks. I have a ton of work ahead of me. So, yesterday I spent a good 3.5 hours in the yard doing all manner of chores. I'm sore today. I've been slacking off on my water intake. Today's goal it chugga lug!
While doing some scrubbing today I was doing some heavy thinking about this challenge. I've marked out on my calendar 3-5 week mini challenges. I'm hope I can lose 10# on each section. That would put me at 30# drop for this challenge. I started this challenge at 197. But I know my high weight was at 205 just after Christmas.

I've been reading "She's Come Undone". I'm close to finishing. I may elaborate more on that latter in regards to my own weight and food experiences.

I do feel like I'm gaining a lot more controll over food rather than the food having controll over me. A big part of that is being prepared. Which I need to get in that kitchen and make up a huge salad and thaw some chicken breast for dinner. Tonight my daughter has ice skating lesson. That got me into trouble last week. Not being prepared. Once you get to a certain point of hunger it's too late. Don't want to do that again.

It's all a mental game of controll don't you think? Were gonna do it Chickies, Were gonna do it. Focus hard and gain controll!!

If I go missing, I'm just working on the house. I'll check back in when I can.

Hi Ladies,
I've been away. I'm at my sisters now so I have access to the web again. I'd read all the posts but I don't have time, sorry :sorry:
To those that are doing well, keep it up :cb: I see that som are doing very well. And to those that are not doing that well, get going, you're doing this for you!! And for your DH for Fathers Day. If you're like me, my weight makes me unhappy nad in turn that makes my DH unhappy.
I've joined TOPS here and we'll see how that goes. I'm sure it will be good. I've been exercising here too. Well, gotta go

Good evening! Good thing these computers haven't gotten to the point where you can see the person typing. I take an artisitc flare to painting a room. I have quite the abstract configuration across the front of my shirt...my hair is slightly peachy (which is the color of the new bathroom walls), and I just found a smudge across my nose as I scratched an itch. Quite lovely! Good thing I have been doing the arm excercises with light weights. I may actually be able to lift my arms above my head tomorrow!

How are all you chickies doing? DewCan, glad to hear that you are still plugging away at it. Canon, I've never heard of that book, what's it about? And you are right, at least for me, it is a game of control. My little inner voice, (okay, so I hear voices!) keeps my in line. I have been telling myself that nothing tastes as good as being thin feels. There is no food on the face of the earth that feels as good as having someone take a second look at you. Whether it is a glance from your hubby or significant other, or just someone in passing....No food can give me that satisfaction. Or the feeling of putting on clothes that you haven't been able to wear for a while...you know the feeling....total euphoria!

Hula, don't beat yourself up. One bad night is just that...ONE bad night. All the other nights are what add up to the success you are looking for. You get back up on that horse and smack it around some! It'll take you where you want to go.

AZ, hope business is going well for you on your trip. Traveling, even for business sounds exciting.

Mahtha, glad the snow was there and not here. I did some walking last week and this weekend, but we have had cold, misty, yucky weather. The rowing machine sounds like a good alternative. Way to go taking your workout another direction! I have become queen of the workout tape. My house is too small for equipment.

Well, to anyone I missed, I wish you all a day and evening of feeling successful in your mission!

Day 5 for me and borrowing the phrase from Canongal "I do feel like I'm gaining a lot more controll over food rather than the food having controll over me. " -that is really how I feel today - I just keep getting those niggly feelings that I won't be able to.

I must say this is one of the most positive and pumped up groups I have run across.

AZ - where you here in Seattle yesterday (Mon) when we broke the temp record? 69 here in Lakewood where I am! So I got a couple hours of yard work done and a 30 min walk too - Today started off wet, but improved as the afternoon rolled around.

I am having a hard time varying my meals - but am doing well as trying to avoid breads, cereals, etc. I keep eating the same things - oh well, maybe this weekend I will have time to think some more. Next week is finals so I am busy writing them and talking to students who haven't been around all quarter and want to know now how to pass - LOL - reminds me of myself and weight - I just kept putting it on and finally woke up what do I need to do now. I pray this is the last time I have to loose weight and I will have a new way of eating and exercising so it doesn't happen

I have avoided the scale like crazy this week - so looking forward to weigh in on Friday and hoping it says something good.

See you tomorrow - and stay OP for all of us!!!
Hula - I applaud your attitude - you stumbled, but are right back on track

I gotta tell you I was feeling like crap until I read all your posts today. I don't know what it is but just reading about you all going through the same thing really helps.

I have felt super bloated all day and I know why...Either retaining water or its giving up the beer. Hula not only does it keep perspective but it also keeps me "regular" I feel as big as a boat right now. Like I ate 12 pizza's without getting the taste. I am totally tempted in getting one from the fridge and I know it sounds like an excuse but it would really help my tummy. I have searched the medicine cabinet for an alternative but nothing there. I am starting to hurt. Sorry to be gross....please forgive me.

I don't think when we were posting about goofing up its was in regards to one day of indulgence Hula. I know I was refering to not failing the challenge and giving up. I know there is going to be a time when I will give in cause its human nature to please ourselves and right now we are fighting it and hoping to change what pleases us. I personally am very jealous that you got to do it  wish it were me that had the fantastic night. Please don't let it bother you cause one night is not going to make or break you. You are way to strong for that to happen.

Boatingmommy I will always pitcure you that way now cause it sounds really cute. You must have worked really hard today!!!!!

Dewcan...great to hear from you and keep up the great work. We will be waiting whenever you have the chance to talk.

Canongal I think you goals are great and within reason as well. I know you will be successful just like the rest of us. I too hear those voices and except for today I can usually turn them around for the better but darn it my tummy is sore!!! oops sorry.

I am trying a slimming tea and if it doesn't work I am going for the beer. I need to start taking the sugar free metimucil again. I will tomorrow for sure, that seemed to help that last time but does'nt really start taking effect for a few days. Oh and I forgot to take my supplements today and if I don't take them with food I get really queasy. Well the list is just endless tonight isn't it? I do feel better though I really do. Thanks girls!!!

Hi to everyone peaking in as well!!!!!

Talk to you tomorrow...oh yeah Hula please don't ever stop giving us your final inspirational thoughts they are wonderful.

03-09-2004, 10:59 PM
Ps little note for those who are interested. I know a few of us log on around the same and I thought maybe we could set up one day a week to go in the chat room and talk about our week.....I would love it!!! What do you guys think?

03-10-2004, 01:13 AM
I apologize that this is a short post...getting ready for bed....just wanted to check in and let you know how greatful I am to be accountable to this group. I stayed on plan today and did good. I didn't eat breakfast, but I think that's a good thing when I am traveling as I tend to eat more at lunch and dinner...I had a togos sandwich for lunch, but I had the lean roast beef and vege only, on wheat. I then had a french dip for dinner with a small side salad. I tried to eat stuff that would be non-saucy and have enough protien to give me the energy I need.

Deenie...I am in Seattle tonight. I got in around 8 PM. I leave tomorrow at 5. I am here visiting Alaska Airlines' headquarters as they are a large customer of ours. Staying at the Doubltree South Center - do you know where that is? There looks to be a big mall accross the street.

Thank you all for your kind encouragement. I still feel just gross (I like that word Hula) from my porking yesterday. I swear when I get home on Thursday I am going to the gym for three hours.

I promise to comminicate better with each of you when I get back.

hugs and purrrrs.....

03-10-2004, 01:16 AM
Trying to keep up with you girls so I don't lose pace with the post.

Trixi~ Does your slimming tea have Senna leaves? I had a friend telling me about a slimming tea with Senna leaves. I'm curious to how it works. Well actually I know what it does to you. Sounds like a good booster to use for a quick flush!

Boatingmommy~ The book is by Wally Lamb. It was one of Oprah's previous book club selections. It' follows the life of a girl from the age of 4 to 40. She has faced a lot of issues in her life and develops a weight problem.
I finished reading it tonight. There is a thread on this site that talks about it I believe. I think there's a "book club" section on the main menu.

Hey everyone! I'm back in town and it looks like the group is growing!

Welcome to all the newbies. :D

This is just a quick hi, will post more later.

Good Morning!

I wanted to give a little encouragement for everyone today. I was reading over in the library and thought this would be good for those who haven't read it yet.

Also, If your only watching the scale and haven't taken your measurements, do so. Write them down. I think you'll be amazed at the inches you lose!

I'm amazed at the energy I've been having this week. I know it's because of the absence of Sugar. It's been said that sugar is a metabolic posion. I just need to constantly remind myself of that.

I hope you all have a good day!

03-10-2004, 02:06 PM
Good afternoon everyone. I feel much better today. Not so bloated as I did end up giving in and having a beer last night. I think the slimming tea helped as well. I am not sure what it is made from but I do know it's natural I will look at it when I get home.

Down 2 pounds since Sunday and I will not weigh myself anymore this week. I am putting the scale in the closet.

Just wanted to say a quick hello. Welcome back Water Nymph great to see ya!!

Post more later as I am at work now.

Hello Everyone!!

I feel great this week being so good... no sugar, exercising, drinking water, taking my vitamins, eating right. So today I rewarded myself by going shopping. They had an absolutely fantastic sale at Robinson's May Department store, and I bought a cute top. I figured I deserved it.
We will probably go out on Friday nite, and I'll wear it then, so it will remind me to eat a half portion like I did last weekend.

And the greatest thing last night, hubby told me I'm looking better!! Hey, now that's enough motivation to keep me going. :D

Our group has really helped me stay focused. We just moved into our new home a few weeks ago and sometimes I'm totally overwhelmed with it all. I love my home. I just can't find anything. Then there's the taxes that we haven't done yet. Uh oh, I'm getting overwhelmed again. :dizzy: I usually overeat when my emotions run high. This time I have more control. :)

Trixi, the chat room idea sounds great.

Let's keep at it!

Thank you everyone for the reassuring words from my Monday night debacle. I didn't like how I felt the "morning after" and it just reminded me where I didn't want to be again. I can't believe I that I actually did that so frequently
in the past!. Felt really good the past two days, went to Pilates class and ate light and well.

Canon-Thanks for the article and the book tip. That article was very helpful. I like the part that states that "Timing is key to success. You need to be at a point in your life when you're ready to take on the challenges of serious weight loss." I think that we are all very serious about this which is why this is going to be "it".

Water Nymph and DewCan-Welcome back, we missed you.

AZ Kitty-Have a safe trip home and we'll talk more later in the week!

DeenieD-You're doing so well! Good luck with your Friday weigh in and finals too!

Dena-It is great to have that added support from your hubby. I hope you have a blast Friday night, you deserve it!

Boating-Thanks for the nice words, made me feel better. Yes, the attention is so nice! Just a reminder of another "perk" of feeling and looking your best. I sure would love to look "smokin'" :smoking: instead of "extinguished" :hot: (Maybe the bag boys at the grocery store will start calling me "miss" instead
of "ma'am" again.)

Trixi-I think I have enough quotes to last us til Father's Day! Don't worry about your little beer, I think we need to really pick our battles carefully in this challenge and hey, if we are exercising and eating healthy, then we can have some rewards now and then. Hope your tummy is better. p.s. I like your IM idea!

Sounds like everyone is working on there homes - great exercise girls. Also wanted to remind all the newbies to reward themselves with smilies for their FDC weight loss (see post #39) Oh yeah, wanted to also tell you guys that I was reading my new "Self" magazine and came across a very positive little blurb in there about online support for weight loss (like we're doing). High success rate! So, we're gonna do this ya' know?!

Good evening....I am having what I consider a lazy night because I just cannot exercise tonight....my feet are killing from wearing these shoes all day and then doing laundry in them as well. I don't even think I could get my runners on. I did picked up the 3mile watp today so I am going to start it on the weekend and see if I can hack it. My challenge for the week is pretty much a failure since I am having a glass of wine right now. I am going to make it next weeks challenge again. I can do this. I started the metimucil today and hopefuly by next week it will be okay for my tummy not to need a beer or wine.

The past two days I feel like I cheated big time first with the beer and then not exercising tonight. I am going to have to be extra good. I have yet to give into my huge craving for fries and gravy (oh god I really want some) so at least with the food I am on track.

I know I am making excuses. I have lost a total of 16 pounds and I don't feel like it. My clothes are just a little looser but you would think 16 pounds would make a differernce but I don't see it at all. I am not going to give up but it is a little discouraging. I am sorry for the past two days I have been such a downer. I don't even have the energy right now to put away the laundry.

Do any of you think about this diet so much during the day that sometimes it gives you a headache and makes the days seem forever?

Oh, I also went to GNC and picked up the atkins brand of pancakes. One serving is only 3gm of carbs!!!! I am going to try it tomorrow and see how they taste. I am not a big fan of pancakes but anything with the same texture as bread is my new best friend.

Again I am already starting to feel better. I have'nt had dinner yet cause my chicken was still frozen. I think I have to turn my fridge down. I am rambling now.

Dena stay strong and just know your doing a great job. I love moving but like you I can never find anything either!!! You tell your husband from me that he should constantly tell you how special you are and maybe you can tell mine . Actually I am really lucky in that department. He has never said one negative thing about my weight and we started dating more than 40 pounds ago. He s really supported and tells me he's proud that I am doing something to make myself happier even if he doesn't think I need to lose weight. I think he's just smart enough of a guy to say things like that and I am smart enough not to beleive them! I think I will go and give him a kiss for being so great right now!!!! bye girls

:coffee: Good morning! Sorry I didn't get around to posting yesterday. Too much Martha Stewart crap going on in my life right now.

I managed to watch the food and excercised twice yesterday. Did the 2 mile WATP tape five minutes after getting out of bed, and last night did the Strength and Grace - Minna Lessig tape. I am neither strong nor graceful, and that tape just about kicked my a--! I was a heap of sweat when I got done. Watching the tape you'd think, "Aw, that's not that strenuous." Let me tell ya!!!!

Trixi, don't worry about "being a downer." That's what we're here for. Not every day is going to be a positive, upbeat day. We all are going to be frustrated at one point or another. Unfortunately, the pounds aren't going to just melt off. No pain, no gain. Well, right now you are feeling the pain. The next day might be awesome. Just know that this is the place to vent. Oh, I don't know if you are taking vitamins, but you may want to check into getting a multivitamin. With a drastic change in the diet, you might be missing out on something that is making you feel droopy. I am taking a one-a-day and it has helped immensely.

Den@, it's nice to reward yourself with a little something. I bought a couple of tops yesterday, too. Can't wait for some spring weather to wear them. Hope you did give your hubby a couple of extra smootches for the compliment. No matter the fact that we are doing this to make ourselves feel better, it's always nice for someone else to notice.

Hula, I'd settle for smoldering! Cannon, thanks for the article. I might pick up the book, but I haven't hardly read since DD was born almost 6 years ago.
Deenie, glad to hear that you feel like you are in control. Me too! I am really pumped to see this thing through, and then continue living it so the weight stays gone!

Well, I hearing the stirrings of a 5 yr. old. Gotta go, now the day is officially beginning! MAKE GOOD CHOICES TODAY!

Hi everyone! I'm having a great morning. Lost 2 pounds this week and thats with eating an ice cream cone over the weekend and it being TOM. The weekend in Catalina was awesome! I went horseback riding which I had not allowed myself to do for a very long time because of my weight. I figured it was time to stop letting my weight determine what I was allowed to do.

Sounds like everyone is doing super good!

Trixi - not a moment of my day goes by without me thinking of losing weight. Everything I put in my mouth is a conscious decision as to if its worth it. Sitting at home not exercising is a big choice. Some of my friends say I'm being too strict and exercising too much but I want this so bad its worth it to me.

03-11-2004, 01:25 PM
Just a quick note before my weigh in day tomorrow. I just came back from my walk this morning, which always makes me feel super.

Congratulations to all who lost weigh this week. Great job!!

Here's a thought... what if we all weighed in on the same day. That way we only have to look at the scale once a week and not get too obsessed with it. I prefer Friday because that means I did great during the week and then I can enjoy the weekend (even though I intend to stay within 1400 cals.)

Just a thought. In any event, I'm so proud of all of us!!!

Hi Guys,
Well, last night I had my hubby take a "before" pic of me and let's just I have lots of work to do. I will probably share the before and after pics with you guys at the end of this challenge ;) Been craving sweets lately due to TOM but I've been eating these sugar-free, zero carb "Coffee nips" and "Caramel Nips" and they really hit the spot! They also have only 30 calories and less that 1 gm of fat each in case you're interested. You can find them at any drugstore (Walgreen's, Rite Aid, etc.)

Trixi-We all have down days, don't feel alone. Mine was Tuesday. Just keep going on your plan and you WILL see a difference. May take a little while but be patient and good things will happen.

WaterNymph-Your trip sounds awesome! Did you ride on a glass bottom boat too?

Boating-Wow, twice in one day! Amazing. p.s. Yeah, just smoldering would
actually work for me too ;)

AZKitty-Welcome back. Congrats on your 1 pound!!!!!

Have a sensible day everyone! Cheers.

Just a quick note before I get back to students (UGH - this time of the quarter you wouldn't believe the excuses)

Yesterday afternoon I got my walk in, but procrastinated and didn't do the ex video until 9 pm! Yikes I sweated and needed a late shower and didn't sleep as good. Hope to do it earlier tomorrow.

I am both excited and worried about my first weigh-in tomorrow. I have been pretty faithful in my exercise goals and eating goals this week so I suspect the first loss will include water - but who cares!!

Canon - thanks for the article - this part really hit home
"In addition, make your goals "process goals," such as eating judiciously and exercising regularly, rather than "outcome goals," such as losing 50 pounds. Changing your process ó your habits ó is the key to weight loss. Make sure that your process goals are realistic, specific and measurable ó you'll walk for 30 minutes a day, five days a week."

I have usually focused on loosing so many pounds and not I am trying to do the process goals - better eating and exercising habits

Thanks to all of you for being here - it makes it much easier

Hula - I've been craving sweets too, same reason, damn TOM is a pain. I've been eating rice crispy treats since they're only 2 points I can have one a day. Amazing how everything is a point now.

I didn't go on the glass bottom boat but I did do the semi-submersible. The water was so clear you could look down into the water and see fish swimming around. Absolutely beautiful!

DeenieD Ė Good Luck on your weigh-in tomorrow. :)

03-11-2004, 03:54 PM
Hi, Hula, since you started confessing, I thought I'll join right on in. I sort of cheated yesterday 3/10 myself. The only thing is I cheated with a Low Carb Breyer's Chocolate Ice Cream. It is so so so good!!, I couldn't help myself.

Any way I had gone to the Gym and worked out very very hard about 2-hours on the cardio machines and had burned tons of calories and I was exhausted when I got home and starving to boot. I had my regular low carb diner and was chilling and then all of the sudden my regular chocolate ice cream craving kicked in and I had at least 3-4 cups with a low carb chocolate chip cookie and I over indulged myself. Boy was it ever good. Anyway this morning I got on the scale and if say I went back up to 193 (I had gone done to 192).

Anyway, I will be very very strict for the rest of this week and will no be indulging agaain anytime soon.

Well I'm checking out unitl Monday. Hope everyone are successful and strong until their next weigh in.

Start wt=261
Current wt=193
Goal wt=140

Hi Hula, the answer is no, I don't really track that. I just try and stay under 30 grams of carbs daily. I'm trying to do no more than 20-25 a day. I know this works well for me. After I get down to at least 173 lbs., I will start to add on 5-carbs a week to track where my ACE will be to continue to lose and then deduct 5-carbs back to try and reach my goal even sooner. I love this way of life (low carbing) because with all the new products, it really works for me.

Good Day!!! :^:

03-11-2004, 05:00 PM
I don't track ketones either, just keep watching the scale drop! Today seemed to be a semi-fast day for me, just didn't feel much like eating..maybe it was because I actually had the day to myself and had too much going on!
Had my morning coffee, went to WalMart, found a 2g net carb Smore's bar ( don't waste your time..I think Cardboard would have tasted better)..never really got hungry until about 3pm, so I had a salad with just spinach and iceberg lettuce with some Ceasar dressing. My water intake has been nil today....

I was able to put on a denim shirt today and actually button it all the way down without any button bulges! I'm pretty dang proud for sure!! I took a look in the mirror and said, gee, you're starting to look better!! I've got a LOOOONNNNGGGG way to go, but I'm not looking that far yet, just 10 lbs at a time.

I just want to tell everybody here THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE! I don't post everyday, but I do read the stories. It's driving me CRAZY that I'm not telling my mom and my best friend my 'dirty little secret', :sssh: so it's nice to have SOMEBODY I can share it with. I feel like we're all on our own Extreme Makeover show!!! :goodscale :cheer:

03-11-2004, 06:07 PM
Just peeking in! I will be on vacation next week (New York City) starting Thurs. so I am trying to get in my posting fixes this week :comp:

WaterNymph-Yum, rice crispie treats!!! If I could have carbs, that would be
one of the first things I put in my mouth.

PatMartin-Yeah, don't you love low-carb! I think I could live this way. To me,
it has been one of the most forgiving diets I've ever been on. Don't worry about your cheat. It was still low-carb!!!! Have you tried the Carb Countdown dairy beverage? I think it is really good with coffee. It is so exciting how many things are low-carb now. Like in the bread aisle at the store, there are many alternatives. My husband is starting to eat all my low-carb stuff, which is very funny to me since he is a stick! And my child can't tell the difference between the sugar-free stuff and the real deal. Even some of the Easter candies out there are low-carb/sugar-free. Amazing!

Liss-That is so exciting the way you are surprising everyone. What a wonderful feeling to actually be able to look forward to it instead of feeling like running the other way. I know you are going to be successful. You have that determination!

03-11-2004, 07:02 PM
Hi guys,
I just can't stay away from this place. Plus I have to post every little success I have. That's how fragile every minute is  I went to Costco and the grocery store and resisted their samples. Now that's a success for me. Just had to share. :D

Hula, we're totally going to miss you while you're on vacation. I want to hear every little detail. I'd love to go to New York sometime! Sounds great. I've been eating sugarfree candies a lot, too. What's in the air?

By the way, sorry about my silly idea this morning. I just got a little overexcited. I wasn't trying to take over or anything. Sometimes I get too creative for my own good. :dizzy: I want to thank you for coming up with this challenge. It has really helped me a lot. And thank you for taking the time to post to all of us. I know how much time it takes. :flow1:

Liss, I like that idea of being on Extreme Makeovers. Congrats to you for looking slimmer in your skirt and blouse. :bravo:

Pat, super kudos to you for being so good on the low carb plan. I'm impressed. And the fact that you got right back on your plan amazes me. I think that's a total success. :)

Till domani, morgen, manana....

Weigh in Day - Friday
FDC Start Date 3/5/04

03-11-2004, 10:37 PM
Good evening everyone. Had a much better day today. Woke up with a 2 pounds loss and loved it. I tried those pancakes today and they were really good. The only thing is I think they have alot of fat, you have to use eggs and oil and butter the pan of coarse. I am not going to make it a daily thing but it really did help with the bread craving I had.

I went to Subway today because my chicken didn't look right so I needed to buy my lunch. They have the atkins wraps there and I heard they were good. I got into a argument with the girl who made it cause she said that the honey mustard sauce was an atkins one with 0 carbs but she really gave me the one with 7 carbs and that was just the sauce. I ate it anyway and it was good but I feel like I cheated on my food. Tonight I had shrimp and green beans. Got my exercise in and got ready for tomorrow.

I did something stupid and weighed myself just after i ate dinner. I wont be doing that again! I know I keep posting I won't step on that scale but it calls me. I PROMISE this time I am not going to weigh myself until Sunday (well maybe tomorrow just to prove that what I saw tonight was just because of the time and I just ate)

Hula I am definately going to miss you next week. I do check my ketones and tonight I was burning moderate. which is pretty good for me. I love it when the little sticky gets darker.

So most of us had a bad day this week and now it can only get better!!!! I am going to stay OP from now on. I will just think about how badly I felt and hopefully that will nip the ugre in the bud.

I am so thankful the I don't like sweets and even better I haven't had TOM in almost three years. I had a hysterectomy when I was 28. I don't know what I would weigh right now if sweets were added into the mix! Today my co-worker asked me if I could pick up her some little chocolates from the store when I went to get a coffee. When I came back I said "I love you, but if you ever ask me to get you fries with gravy, I am gonna have to kill you slowly and then I might eat you as well"

Have a great night everyone and I will see ya tomorrow.

I went to Curves tonight and after my work out I was talking to one of the girls thatís a regular. She had brought in pictures of her before she started WW and Curves. It was amazing!! She had lost over 100# overall and 57 inches since she joined Curves 7 months ago. She had lost 40# prior to joining Curves.

It really inspired me to see what someone else could do is 7 short months.

I know the scale is telling me Iím losing weight and co-workers and family are commenting on my weight loss but its hard for me to see it. Iíve decided the before and after pictures are a great idea and hope to start up a mini web-page just for me to see my progress.

On a side note, I do WW online and when I entered my weight in this week they told me I was losing too fast! Iíve lost 18.5 pounds in 9 weeks. I donít see how they can consider that too fast!

03-12-2004, 04:57 AM
I just found this site yesterday and thought it was awesome! I love all the "normal everday" ecouragement you give each other! Would love to jump in on this Fathers Day challenge. I'd like to lose 18.5 pounds by then. If I am figuring it right that comes out to about 1 1/2 pounds a week. Can't say I am doing WW or low carb but am still determined as ever. I lost 45 pounds before with excercise and better diet, got pregnant, gained it all back, and am back to square one. Ugh!!! My baby is now almost 7 months old and I am ready to start this looooong and discouraging journey once again. Hopefully this time will be easier because it doesn't sound like I have to do it alone.

current weight - 186.5
178 - by fathers day
136 - ultimate goal weight!!

03-12-2004, 10:35 AM
Good morning all and happy Friday!!!!!! I am hoping today will be a good day.

Water Nymph it doesn't sould like too much to me. But than I would be happy if it was 10 pounds a week!!!! I am sure as long as your feeling fine than that's all the should matter. They say that people who lose too fast tend to put it back on. But I think as long you know that this eating healthy and exercisingprogram is a lifetime committment then you won't gain it back. Keep up the great work!!!!!

Welcome Jedi!!!!!!!!! Congratulations on the baby. I love babies lots and lots. My daughter is 10 and I miss her as a baby but she still pretty darn cute.

I am at work and its really busy for a Friday. I will post more later or tomorrow since I think I am going out tonight.

Bye all!!!!

03-12-2004, 11:25 AM
Good morning all. I am back and wanted to check in. It looks like you low carb folks are definately losing at a faster rate than me. I am on a low calorie diet and am definately losing, but clearly not as fast....I guess that is to be expected. I did Atkins two years ago and lost 15 pounds quickly, but just could not stick with it. So now I just try to watch that I don't eat too much bread and refined sugar. I guess this is the price I have to pay if I want to eat my bread.

Hula, I hope you have a wonderful vacation. To all the losers, congratulations! I hope next week I have more than a pound to report.

It is 89 degrees here in Phoenix today, so I will probably do some outside gardening late this afternoon/early evening after work. I have my session with my trainer this morning. I have been gone since Monday night and feel sluggish, so hopefully this will be a good pick me up.

My relatives are coming in tomorrow for the weekend, so I will have to be extra careful with my eating.

Well everyone, have a great Friday and I will check back in soon.

Hugs and purrrrs,

Welcome Jedi, you will like it here. Is this your first kiddo? You are doing the right thing by starting your program now as when the baby starts walking you will need so much energy to chase him (or her). I'm sure you know that but it is soo true. I think 1.5 pounds is workable! They say keep safe weight loss is between 1-2 pounds so you're right there in the middle. Be sure to read post #39 so you will know how to award yourself for pounds loss here at the FDC!

Dena-No worries at all! I didn't even see your posting and had to go back and look at it. I'm not the type to get upset over stuff like that plus all you FDC's have equal ownership and accountability in this challenge. I just typed the first thread and am grateful to have such great people join me! ;) I will probably keep my Sunday weigh day since I started exactly on Sunday and the challenge ends on a Sunday (sorry if I sound anal) I would have like to have had a Friday start instead but oh well. Hey, did you see those Mrs. Mays Almond Crunch thingy's at Costco? They are probably near the
nuts and candies. They're pretty good, and low carb! I know I sound like a low-carb product FREAK!

Trixi-I had to giggle at the thought of you arguing with the Subway person. You're funny! I can totally relate - it's like if I order a diet coke and it tastes "good" then I keep tasting it to make sure it is "diet" then I ask the person if they're sure it is "diet". And then I ask my husband to taste it. haha. So, I'm sure the net effect of your wrap was still around 12 grams so you're probably okay.

Water-I think if you feel great and haven't injured yourself working out
then your weight loss pace is fine. It doesn't sound like too much since
the recommended is 1-2 pounds per week! I guess just listen to your
body. Congrats on 18.50 pounds, that's wonderful!

Well, a sensible day to all. I weigh in Sunday and this week I'm already feeling I had too many visits from the "carbo-witch" this week (mainly due
to my TOM) so I'm hoping I did okay. My ketosis went from "large" amounts to "small"/"trace" this week so my 3 week goal is to bring it back down. Okay, I'm just thinking out loud. Cheers!

Hey guys!

I haven't posted again in a few - but have been trying to find the time too!

Congrats to all the many sucesses each of you have had this week! Sounds like everyone is staying on track pretty much! :)

As for me:

Monday - was a bad day, just felt kinda blah. My puppy was sick and spent the evening at the vet with him so I didn't get my workout in - that made me feel even more blah!

Tuesday - was much better than monday! I made my exercise goal and finally hit 4 and half miles on the eliptoglide machine! That in itself would have made my day - but I weighed myself as well and was down to 221 - not a huge difference but a difference nonetheless.

Wednesday - was another good workout day - I hit 4.52 miles and that .02 more feels like ALOT - so I was pretty happy. My workouts are my major motivation and I always feel like superwoman after finishing a good one!

Thursday - I made it to 4.55 miles - so I'm thinking of upping my level once and seeing how it goes :) I also started a 30min Ab blaster workout that my gym offers - talk about feeling your abs! I splurged a little on dinner when I went out with my husband - but I didnt really feel bad about it. I figure as long as I'm eating healthy and a lifestyle that I can keep - the weight will come off slowly and it will all work out! :p

Friday - today! I'm just having morning coffee still - and working on my philosophy paper. I'll hit the gym later this afternoon with my sister - who is an awesome workout buddy. I plan on making up missing monday with a workout on Sat - so that way I'll still get 5 days in this week of working out.

This weekend wont be too busy - we plan on taking the dogs to the park - never enough time to just chill with them it seems :p Also my puppy graduates puppy obedience class on Sunday! yay :) So that will be fun - other than that - it's homework and studying.

I hope each of you has a wonderful weekend - remember to smile and hang in there! We will suceed! :)

Good Morning everyone! Iím feeling great today. For some reason the morning after I work out I always feel extra good. Itís a great incentive to work out again, knowing it just makes me feel so good. Wow! Who would have ever thought that Iíd be happy about working out? Iíve always been the person who HATED the thought of working out!

Welcome Jedi! Its great to have another person join the group.

Trixi Ė I too would be happy, no make that ecstatic, if I lost 10#ís a week! I would actually love it if I could lose at least 3#ís a week but I realize that is probably just not possible.

AZKitty Ė I canít do the low carb thing either :( I am addicted to carbs and wouldnít know what to eat through-out the day without carbs. Although, I do need to start eating more protein. I tend to do a lot of veggies and fruit.

Hula Ė Iím sure you did better then you think and the scale will show you. Have a great time in NY this week!

Deanna77 Ė Wow! Great job on all the work outs! Do you work out with your sister every night? I have a work out buddy for Curves but I go to the regular gym by myself. I prefer going to the gym with someone but havenít been able to convince any of my friends to go to the gym with me.

I've been on every low calorie diet worth trying on and off for the last 20 odd years or so. I will tell you that this carb watching is REALLY awesome!! All it takes is the ability to find good tasting food that you WANT to eat! I haven't missed sandwiches or subs, because the low carb Pitas are AWESOME!! Last night we had hamburgers for supper in the pitas, stuffed with all the usual trimmings you would put on a burger, and a side of peppers and onion. Today for lunch I had a pita Pizza. Supper will be a shrimp stir fry with a salad on the side.

I will admit, I am getting tired of eggs, and on days I'm not working, I opt not to eat breakfast early in the morning, rather just have my coffee and wait until a bit later to eat. When I was at Walmart yesterday, I found a box of Cereal bars that only have 4gr of effective carbs...after the S'more's incident,I was leary of trying them, but guess what? They're pretty darn good!!! I"m back to WalMart tonight to get some more!!

They are made by a company called CarboRITE, and for $3.85 you get 5 bars. Available in Cinnamon (yum by the way..), strawberry and blueberry, which I am going after tonight.

I am tickled to death to see all the reward Icons popping up!! This is SO COOL!!!

Jedi, welcome to the 'group'. I'm happy you are here! Stick with us, and you will reach your goals!

Hey gals! Sounds like every one is in a really positive mood. Several ups with a few downs thrown in isn't too bad.

I don't know how bad I was for lunch. I had one of the low carb thickburger at Hardees. Was in a rush, and thought that might work. It tasted wonderful, although it was a real bugger to eat. I wore one of the tomatoes before it was over!

Gotta get some excercising in today. I took the day off because my kiddo was off school. Then she opted to go to her Maw-Maw's to spend time with her cousins this morning. I am trying to put some of the remodeling stuff away, as I am tired of looking at the mess. Getting closer to having this project done!

I'd love to comment to everyone, but don't have time right now. Will stop in later!

03-12-2004, 02:35 PM
Haven't got but a minute - will come back and read and post more later
But for my first weigh in I lost 6 pounds!!!!!
I know the first week I will loose the most, but I am pumped!!

03-12-2004, 03:38 PM
Wow, thanks for all the great welcoming from everyone! I'm glad I finally found a place where everyone is having the same troubles I am.

Trixi - I hope you have fun going out tonight!

Kitty - Sometimes family can be the worst medicine for weight loss goals. Every time I am around them I tend to go back to my "comfort zone" eating. It may sound horrible but every time I know my mother is coming over I make sure to have a very large bag of baby carrots on hand so that when I start my automatic hand-to-mouth snacking atleast it is on something good. Plus if she wants to go out to eat I'm not nearly as hungry when I get there.

Dianna - You TOTALLY should feel like superwoman after every workout! If you feel that great it makes it easier to do it again and again and....
Keep that motivation- it will inspire us all.

This is actually my second child. I also have a 5 year old boy who definately has WAY more energy than I can keep up with. Escpecially when the baby keeps me up all night. I also have two step daughters. A 15 year old who lives with us (oh my) and a 12 year old who lives about 5 hours away who comes up for spring break, christmas, whole summer vacation, etc. So I certainly have my hands full of children. Which is another reason I'd like to take off some weight. More energy and a better self image so I can set a good example. Last thing I would want to do is make them self concious of what they look like (society will do that enough).

I had my very first Curves workout last night and fell in love with it. Talk about being pumped up after. Or rather - feeling like superwoman! I can't wait to go again tonight. A few people have also recomended TOPS. Does anyone have any comments or opinions I should know about before going? I am very nervous. My first "trial" meeting with them is this wednesday. If it works out then this will be my weigh in day because I make it a point to not have a scale in my house. Otherwise I am on it every hour or after I eat ANYTHING! Not a very healthy relationship with an inatimate object.

Anyway, thanks again for the welcome. Everyone keep up the good work and hopefully your success will rub off on me as well.

Happy Friday, Everyone!!!

Just a quick note, since hubby is home today, and we have a billion things to do. But wanted to report that I lost 2 lbs. this week!!!!

Deenie, CONGRATULATIONS on your 6 lb. loss!

Have a super weekend. We're going out to dinner and I'm wearing my new top! I'm so proud of our group. We're all doing great!

I'm back
Welcome Jessica and glad to have you along! It is wonderful to see so many people sticking with their plans, and it is really great too to see those who may not have had a good day but recognized it and got back on track and DID NOT give up!!! We can do it!

Since today was my weigh in I keep track of the week up to here

Goals met:
exercized (Joyce Vedral weight tapes) 6 days of the last week :smug:
walked 3 times - wanted to get in 4 - so almost there
Journalled daily - something very new for me but gettting easier
Watched my carbs - OK except for my morning latte - skim milk has quite a few carbs, but I figure I can't cut out everything. I am finding it easier to cut out some things (no bread, potatoes, rice) than go whole hog low carb. I am also eating protien at each meal and trying to stop eating after dinner.

My problem with the goodies that many of you are finding is I eat WAY too much of them so it offsets their goodness.

Best wishes for a wonderful OP weekend!

03-12-2004, 07:08 PM
 Well, here it is...Finally Friday afternoon! Tomorrow is the dreaded St. Patrick's Festivities. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for me. I can hear the green beer calling me already! I know that I will have an awesome time. It really is just a huge party in the oldest part of the riverfront of St. Louis. We have gone every year for the past 10 or so. This year I plan to stay as OP as possible, and avoid the hangover that I usually have on Sunday afterwards! I am planning to get up first thing and do my aerobics workout. I am hoping that will help with the motivation for the day.

I am so happy to hear about everyone's losses. Six Pounds!!! Way to go Deenie, and 2 pounds it pretty exciting, too Den@. I stepped on the scale this moring and it said 179 even. That's another half a pound.

Jedi, I can sooooo relate to jumping on the scale every minute! I weighed myself in the middle of the night last night after a particularly long pee!!!! How sick is that. I know I need to quit, but I can't seem to help it.

Dianna77, sounds like you had a pretty good week, despite the puppy incident. Hope he/she is okay now. Love the animals!

AZ and WaterN - have you two tried the Healthy Life bread. It is for restricted carb dieting. It comes in wheat, sourdough, and Italian. Only 35 calories per slice 1 gram of sugar per slice. I can't do the low carb either. I just don't want to cut something out of my diet. I want to eat a variety of everything, just less. But, I figured making a few changes in the foods has to be a good thing, especially since most bread is so bad for you.

Well, everyone. I have to get dinner on the table for DH and DD. I am having a salad while they have brats and mac and cheese.

03-12-2004, 07:58 PM
Hi guys - just needed to share. I just figured out I need to loose 10 more to make it out of obese and into the overweight category. I am making this a subgoal of mine

I feel like I blew it :( I had 2 Strawberry Margaritaís at lunch = 13 points... I'm now 6.5 points over my daily allowance and its only 4:30pm....

03-12-2004, 11:52 PM
WaterNymph - don't berate yourself - just try and do well the rest of the evening - pat yourself for realizing what you did (and wish you hadn't) and get right back on program

YOU CAN DO IT ~~~~~~~

03-13-2004, 03:37 AM
Well, I couldn't sleep ladies so I thought I would update you on my night and all :)

Lissandy - thanks for sharing the low carb goodies - I'll be sure to try those!

DeenieD - Major grats on the 6lbs! You go girl! Keep up the awesome work! :cp:

Jedi - Welcome! I don't know what TOPS is - maybe you can fill me in and tell me what you think of your first meeting! :) Major congrats on the working out at Curves!! :workout: It's awesome to feel like superwoman! Remember you might not see the scale move as fast as you'd like when you're weight lifting because you're gaining muscle - so take measurements - that helped me to realize how much I'd changed my body in a little period of time!

Den@ - Congrats on the 2lbs!! :cp:

Boatingmommy - Have some fun for me too at the St. Patrick's Day Festivities! :) My puppy is much better now - was just a tummy ache it turns out - giving K.P. to a shar-pei is no fun!! But it did make him feel better :) Thanks for asking :)

Water Nymph - Don't be so hard on yourself! We're all human!! The worst thing you can do is be negative to yourself!! Just remember that tomorrow is a new day! :) You WILL suceed!! On days when the diet part doesn't go as well as planned - just try to get in an extra 10min walk or something if you can - it'll make you feel a bit better about slipping up - at least that works for me! And about your earlier question - my sis goes with me to the gym everyday - at first I had to drag her with - but now she's losing weight too and she really enjoys it!

My night was a long night!! I didnt get to the gym until nearly 7pm and even then I so didnt want to be there - I had major cramps and I felt all around icky. But after I got done and I reached my 4.5 mile mark again I felt much much better and I was glad I didnt skip it! I put stickers on my calendar for every day that I've sucessfully gotten my workout in and let me tell ya - today I really earned that sticker! :dancer:

Keep smiling ladies and have a wonderful weekend!! ;)

03-13-2004, 04:51 AM
So I had my second workout at curves tonight. This time I took my 15 year old step daughter. She does not need to lose weight but wants to tone up a bit so I thought it might be a good "bonding time". She had a lot of fun (thank goodness). We ended up going to a different location because the one I signed up at last night closes at 7 on Fridays! She was weighed and measured just like I was last night and then for the heck of it (and that I am a scale addict) we weighed me again. I know this is not possible but it said that I am 5.5 lbs lighter than yesterday. It's the same type of scale but could one be completely whacked or something? There is a big difference in 186.5 lbs and 181 lbs to someone who is trying to lose. Any ideas?

Den@, congrats on the 2 pounds. I can't wait to start fitting in to some of my old clothes again. And to buy new ones too! Being able to buy smaller clothes and knowing they will fit is motivation in itself.

boatingmommy, my fingers are crossed for you I promise. Large group functions are definately one of my weaknesses. Try to focus on having FUN and not what food you "can't" have.

Thanks for the tip Dianna. I will definately be taking measurements, especially after my miracle 5 pound loss in one day.

All I know about TOPS right now is that it is basically a support group. Taking Off Pounds Sensibly is what it stands for. They don't promote any certain diet but just give each other weekly encouragement is what I understand. I made a commitment to go to atleast one meeting before I found out about your guy's support group online. So Wednesday I will be there with bells on. I'll let ya know!

03-13-2004, 10:26 AM
Don't worry about being Obese, by the time this challenge is over, you won't be anymore!! Stop labeling yourself, That's why we are here. Besides, isn't it 6 out of 10 Americans that are consiered Obese? So, you've got plenty of company!!

Last nites' StirFry didn't happen. By the time Hubby got home I was in less than a happy mood, so we went to Wendy's for supper, where I had their Chicken BLT salad with Ceasar dressing.

I haven't started any workout 'for real' yet, only because I haven't got around to it. Once the weather is warm enough to walk outside, I will start doing that more often and probably add some hand weights.

Today is my Sis In Law's 30th birthday party. Being an italian family, I"m sure that pasta is on the menu...My mom in law makes the best Lasagna and it's gonna be tough not to over indulge!!! So, I'm making a veggie tray to bring over.

Imagine my surprise this morning when I stepped on the scale and found that I'm almost at a TEN POUND weight loss since 2/29. If I can keep this up, I will definitely meet my Father's day goal!!!!

Hubby and I also want to have a famil photo taken of us this summer. It will be nice to be SKINNY in the pics! I won't have to hide behind the kids anymore!!!!

I hope everyone has a fantastic day, and a great weekend!!

03-13-2004, 11:55 AM
Good Morning everyone :coffee: I have read through all the posts since yesterday morning and all you guys are doing sooooooo great. :bravo:

Today is one of those days where I have a ton to say but don't know where to start. Ok, lets start with how I really lost it last night. I was so bad that today I don't even want to look at myself. I just can't seem to stay on track on a friday and last night was a biggie. It all started when....

After work me and the girls (about 7 of us) usually go to the local little bar and have our friday night drink. I had avoided this last week and went home to exercise before going out. But this week my co-worker had a pretty bad week and we wanted to cheer her up so I went. I had a few wines and then my fiance came to pick me up and we went straight to the local bar in my neighbourhood (bad move) where again I had a few more wines  . The worst is yet to come. Fiance walked me home and I thought "okay that's it for the night". It was about 1 am by then and he decided that he wanted to go back. I got upset after he left and okay this is the really bad part.......I ordered lasanga and ate the whole thing along with the garlic bread. This is the first cheat for me with food. I felt horrible afterward (during I was shoveling it in so fast I couldn't think right :o ) Then of coarse being soooo full I went to bed. Why can't I behave on a Friday? So not only did I drink, I ate and I didn't exercise. I am really mad at myself  Okay! today's a new day right? and I will just have to get over last night right?

As for you girls....your are all doing so wonderfully and I am super proud of you. I wanna make my usual comments but don't know if I deserve to. Going to anyway :^:

AzKitty - 89!!!!! wow I could use a little of that weather my way! Yesterday the windchill was -12 and it was snowing. The kind of weather you feel in your bones. Gardening sounds terrific and so far away right now.

Hula - not sure if you've left yet. You have worked really hard this week and no matter what the scale says you should be really proud of yourself. You can even take some of the credit for all of us. Each pound we lose you've had something to do with it just by your astounding support and encouragement. :encore:

Dianna77 - I am really happy your puppy is doing much better and I had a giggle picturing you giving the medicine. Your doing amazing with the exercise and just showing up and making yourself do it when you don't feel like it is a huge accomplishment.

Water nymph - Two margarita's does not make a failure! Look at me and my night of gluttony. We can both put yesterday behind us and today is definately a new day! I weighed in this morning (I know I said I woudn't) and I didn't gain which I feel like I should have just for punishment!

Lissandy - I know what you mean about the eggs. I have this oatmeal protien pack that I eat every morning and I find it's the only thing I can get down in the morning. We really need to eat breakfast cause it gets your body going! But I gotta tell I am getting sick of it as well. You have done amazing since we all started this almost ten pounds gone that you will never see again. Keep up the great work!!!!!!

Boatingmommy - Your lunch sounded messy but fine! Again who am I to speak. Sounds like you are going to have a great time for St. Patrick's day. Today I would match everyone for the day :p as I am truly green and feeling the effects of my overindulgence. I know you will be fine and everyone deserves a great time out once in awhile. Apparently for me it's every friday!

DeenieD - 6lbs!!!!! weigh to go!!! I hate that word obese. It sounds so crass doesn't it? I perfer to be considered a work in progress.

Jedi - Sounds like you have your hands full and doing a great job of it. I would take the 181. Not only might you have lost that water but your body probably continued to work hard even after the exercising session. It's a great start and a huge motivator for you!! Let us know how the TOPS is. Sounds like it does what we are already doing. But who couldn't use even more support!!!

Gee, I had alot to say today! I am going to try the 3 mile WATP dvd for the first time today. I am going to also sit myself down and work on some goals for next week and this week was pretty much a right off. I hope eveyone has a great day!!!!!

Instead of going to work out last night, like I should have, the guys at work convinced me to go out. 4 beers later and I had a day that included 24 points from alcohol.... I've been trying to think of the positive parts of the day. I did not eat bad foods, even when they ordered fries, chips and spinach dip I didn't eat it. I also managed to drink at least 8 glasses of water during the day. Also, I know that I will not give up going out drinking with my friends long term. I've been cutting back on that as I've been so determined to lose weight but I know that I will wind up drinking again. I'm just going to have to find a way to work that into my plan.

This morning I got up and did a 45 min workout at Curves so I've started off today good. I'm going down to Venice Beach for the afternoon so lots more walking. Today should be a good day!

Trixi - good luck with the 3 mile WATP, let us know how you do :)

Lissandy - Congrats on the 10 pounds! Thats a huge loss in only 13 days!

Jedi - I love Curves! I do both Curves and LA Fitness and the difference between the two are huge! At Curves you get to know the people and its very comfortable to go and work out. At the gym its like you're all alone. I hope you continue to enjoy your work outs there.

Dianna77 - I love the idea of stickers. I need to go buy some. I keep a calender with my goals outlined and updates on my weight.

DeenieD - Thank you for the encouragement. :) I read that last night and it really helped.

03-13-2004, 07:35 PM
I really want to remind those who have slipped this week that we are still doing OK. If this was going to be easy, it would have happened long ago. I hope we all keep in mind that we can do it, but there will be slip ups (for all of us along the way). We just have to realize our mistake, try to identify what triggered it, and plan for what we would do differently if we get in that situation again.

Someone said fridays were the bad day for her - I dread saturdays - since they are often unstructured and unplanned there is way too many times/ways for me to be tempted. So I am constantly on edge today, just dreading what might be around the corner and the hope I can avoid a major pigout!

Congratulation to the losses this week - and congratulations to all of us who are still in this challenge. We will loose!!!!

03-13-2004, 08:01 PM
Just wanted to say how impressed I am everyone's progress and determination. I can't believe the success we've already had and the strength both physically and mentally that we all are developing. And also wanted to point out to anyone reading the posts that this challenge is "non-denominational" in the sense that all dieters are welcome regardless of the plan you're on :) I know it seems like a lot of us are on low-carb but wanted to let the non-low-carb people know that they're input is valued just as much!

AZ-Thanks, I leave next week Thurs to NY. Hope your visit with the family was fun!

Deenie-Wow, 6 pounds -wonderful!!! Keep it up.

Liss-You are low-carb product guru extroardinaire! I think I know which s'mores bar that is. If it is by CarbWise, it is nasty! I seen some of the Carbo-Rite stuff at Trader Joe's too. They changed their name from Carbo-Lite I believe. You guys, there is some REALLY good low carb chocolates by a company called rossdirect.com! It is amazing, can't tell the difference from real chocolate and there are like ten flavors. Speaking of TEN, congrats on your TEN POUNDS!! That is truly awesome.

WaterNymph-Don't worry, even if it doesn't seem like it you are making progress. Think about how much you've changed from your "old" habits and keep it in perspective. If it makes you feel any better, I went out with the girls last night and drank 5 Michelob Ultra's and one Vodka w/ Club Soda! Didn't eat anything then was starving this morning.

Boating-You're probably enjoying your green beer at this very moment. Hey, you can even have some corned beef w/ cabbage - that's a low carb meal!! You'll have to fill us in on the festivities!!

Dena-Yay on the 2-pounds!!!!Keep it up.

Diana77-Now you sound determined. Glad to have you here with us. Your puppy sounds so cute. Glad he is better. I love shar-pei. I used to have a shar-pei mixed with boxer. Now we have an American Eskimo (and two bunnies, and a hermit crab, and a fish..)

Trixi-Like I told WaterNymph, think of how much progress you have made and don't feel so bad. You can move on and use your food hangover as kind of a lesson. I think that is really going to be the key success factor in this challenge--that we're all going to make mistakes but we will keep forging ahead no matter what! We will do extra well in Week 3 to make up for our Week 2 slips!

Jedi-I think scales will drive us all mad. Don't know what to say other than pick one scale to use, like the one at home and well, if it happens that you are actually 5 pounds lighter, than that will just be "gravy" (sorry, Trixi I should eliminate that word, eh?) :^:

Enjoy the weekend everyone.

"There is no one giant step that does it. It's a lot of little steps."

Saturday night and I spent the day pampering myself out of my guilt and I made the fiance come with me to ease his guilt as well ( I am nice that way) I got my nails done (typing a little difficult untill I get use to the length) and then I got my hair coloured, went with deep red and blond highlights. I was gone from 2 this afternoon until almost ten. I had a blast though and I feel pretty. We also went shopping and I finally found the mat I need in case I ever end up trying the pilates. I also got these really cute pajama's and started easter shopping. I think I am the only mother I know who's ten year old still believes in the easter bunny! So all in all I had a total me day and now I am pooped. Tomorrow is weigh in offically and I know I am not going to do as well as the first week but I agree with you hula week three is going to make up for my slip up in week two and I am actually looking forward to getting back on track. I feel like I am missing something not being OP and its not just the guilt but I am actually turning into the person I started to be during week one. That is exciting for me.

When I got home I had a shower and slipped cause all the soap on my feetsies so I can't talk long cause I fell on my bumbum and man it hurts just sitting here, got to go find something soft to rest on. I am a clutz.

Have a wonderful night everyone and see you a little bit lighter (hopefully).

Oh yeah, Hula thank you for thinking of with me the gravy reference but it's okay...maybe even one day I will be able to look at gravy and not want to bathe it in

It was one of the hardest things I had to do but I have weighed in and it's a 2 pounds loss for me this week. Which would okay if I didn't have to increase my current weight by two pounds (I am not going to change that mid week anymore and maybe it will be less painful) I am not very pround of myself for this past weekend but I have come to terms with it and will move on from here. A lesson learned right?

This challenge is so important to me and I have created my goals for the up coming week. I have made them more hard so hopefully I will stay focused everyday instead of giving in close to the end of the week and allowing myself to have a treat. So here goes.....

1. Do the 3 miles WATP everyday (including Friday)
2. Have only 2 coffees a day that have caffine.
3. Do not weigh myself every chance I get and try to do it only next Sunday (as you know this is a hard one for me)
4. Drink my water and take my vitamins (I left them at work on Friday (along with my salmon that was suppose to be my lunch and I am not looking forward to the smell when I get in in the morning).

This week is going to hard and I am motivated to make it work. I have had actually lost four pounds this week but two came back and I don't want that to ever happen again. Right now what I am going to do is go back to the beginning of this thread and read each post again as this is where it all started for me and I was so motivated the first week and I want that back again. I hope you all have a great day and talk more tonight. For those who's weigh in is today as well , GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

nope, your're not the only one with a 10yr old who still believes in the Easter Bunny, Santa, OR even Leprechauns!! Either that or both are children are very good con artists!!!

I've been having an affair with my scale as well..gotta stop that myself, but I've been heavy for so long checking the scale almost everyday makes me feel good about all the work I'm doing.

The birthday party went fine yesterday..Mom ordered Pizza and made meatballs and salad to go with it. I ate the meatballs and lots of salad, and even managed to avoid the Birthday cake. My hubby's aunt owns a Contours workout center, now if only she could open one in our town I'd start going! I'd feel VERY guilty joining Curves now!!!

Morning everyone. Well, I lost 1 pound for the week and am grateful for even that. I could have done much better but felt like my TOM had an effect on this weeks results, specifically my hunger and activity level. I try to look at it like I lost 3 pounds each week for two weeks, totalling 6 but I need to be much more sensible next TOM.

Stats for Week 2:
Avg daily carbs: 40/over goal by 15
Avg daily points:33/over goal by 8
Activity: 3x
BF%: 33
Rating: C- :(

Goals for Week 3:
Carbs per day: 25
Points per day: 25
Activity: 4x (Sun-Weds only due to vacation)
Supplements: Multi-Vitamin and CLA supplements daily
Challenges: Staying sensible while on vacation

Good job TRIXI on you 2 pounds - not bad at all! Good luck to everyone else weighing in for Week 2.

I had a much better day yesterday! I was 7 points under for the day and I earned 11 activity points thru-out the day. Today I'm going to force myself over the the gym for an hour of cardio or 400 calories burnt, whichever comes first.

Wow, everyone is doing so great! Congrats on the losses Trixi and Hula! Youíve both done a great job.

DeenieD Ė I hope the rest of Saturday was good for you. Weekends are always the hardest for me too because I eat out so much.

03-14-2004, 06:01 PM
Wow, congrats to everyone with losses! ROCK ON!!! And everyone with slip ups I'm glad (and encouraged) by your determination of moving forward. Reading about them I feel kind of lucky that I am still in my first week and still motivated as ever. I know that I will see my day when temptations become too strong but it helps to know that it's not just me. I guess what I'm saying is Thanks for going through it first.

Hula - TOM??

Trixi - The lasagna was only your first cheat so don't forget to give yourself credit for all the hard work you put in before that. I eat when I get upset too. I'm glad you gave yourself a day of pampering. That always makes me feel good too and makes me want to do better. Oh yea... Hope your bum feels better.

Water Nymph - Good Job!! Even though you may have gone overboard with drinking you were still able to resist your friends "bad" food and stick with your water for the day. It also sounds like you have already put yourself back on track with your workout. So again - WAY TO GO! I love curves too. I used to go to Total Woman and it was not anything like the personal enviroment that I get from Curves.

DeenieD - loved what you said about "planning what do do differently if we get in that situation again". An easy answer to that is whenever you are about to cheat or are feeling upset just come here for support. I suppose that only works if you are near a computer. I have my goals written down on a small piece of paper. How much I would like to lose and how I plan on doing that. I keep that in my purse just as a reminder.

Then only thing I don't like about Curves is the hours. Only open until noon on saturday and closed on sunday. Which means I did not get to go all weekend. I took my 5 year old to the park and ran around with him for a while. I know it's not the same thing but at least I don't feel like I've completely lost on excercise for the weekend. This way I'm double pumped to get back to my workout tomorrow evening. The "original" scale that I first weighed in on is there too so maybe I'll jump on real quick to see how much that other scale was lying. So far so good with eating well - no slip ups. Only four days into it though. Last time I lost almost 50 pounds it took me nearly a year so I know how loooong this journey will be. All of the encouragement from you guys has already been a big help though - THANKS!

03-14-2004, 08:27 PM
Good evening everyone. I got everything I said was going to do today done! My house is so clean I am afraid to move in case I throw dust around. Got all my food cooked for the week and tried a few new things. This week we have halibut, chicken stir fry, Sole, Soup and I got these meatless steak strippy things that are suppose to be great (well see) Had the stir fry tonight and it was pretty good. I brought some low carb bread today as well (gee its not cheap is it?) good thing I can only have one slice at a time. Oh yeah I got ultra low fat cream cheese as well.

I finally tried the 3 mile WATP and man it's hard!!!! I figured I was having such a easy time with the 2 miles that I should be fine but maybe cause I didn't exercise in two days I had a really hard time keeping up. I feel great now but at the time I didn't think it was ever going to end!!

I have put my scale in the closet for real this time and will not take it out until Sunday. Last week was too depressing and I don't want to go through that again. So until next Sunday I will weigh the same and accept the fact that I am going to be 171 for the next 6 days. I am also going to make plans for next weekend that do not include my usual routine and hope that help's with the cheating Fridays....anyone got any ideas?

Fiance is spending the next five hours watching Wrestlemania so I am solo for the rest of the evening.

Jedi.....thanks for the warm bumbum thoughts  I feel much better now.

Hula - Congrats on the 1 pound loss even with your TOM (time if the month) I am sure next week when all the extra stuff that comes with TOM goes away your loss will be significant. Keep up the great work!!!!!!!

Some of have more to lose then others and they will tend to lose faster until we too get to that point. Just losing what we really don't need. Have a great night everyone.

03-15-2004, 01:23 AM
Well saturday evening wasn't great, but i was craving, craving all evening. Finally dh came in with 2 mini choc bars (100 cal total) and I slowly broke them in 8 pieces and let each one melt in my mouth - good thing he didn't have any more around! I did get my weights and walk in.

I am glad saturday is over - it was really tough on me. We spent this afternoon differently than usual so I did do my weights (at 9 pm and only because I promised my daughter) but no walking - just too many things came up.

I am finding out how I really don't do well with surprise days - routine days like M - F are so much easier for me - at least I take my food to work and the option to cheat means I need to go out of my way to do it. At home - yikes! I could cheat on anything, even saltines :(

I am so proud of how everyone in the is group is so positive and so pumped up and I keep rereading many of these messages - what a great group of cheerleaders - Hula, thanks for starting the challenge and OFF to a good OP week for all of us!!!!

I had a great day today. Worked out at the gym this morning and burnt 470 calories in a hour and five mins and I was under my points for the day.

DeenieD - It sounds like you did good for the weekend :) You might want to try planning your weekend days out in advance so there are less surprises.

Trixi - I'm impressed! I never get everything done I need to get done on the weekend. I also love the idea of pre-planning meals. I'll have to try that out.

Jedi - I mix cardio workouts with my Curves work outs so I can still do something on weekends.

03-15-2004, 09:47 AM
:( Well, I just wanted to stop in and let you gals know I didn't fall off the wagon Saturday. Instead I did a flying leap, head first swan dive flat on my face!!! The green beer flowed and then at midnight it was appetizer festival. Our group ordered one of every appetizer and pigged out in the hotel bar. Not good. I weighed myself this morning and was back to 181! Holy S#$!***!!!

I did get up and did the WATP 2 mile walk right away. Had a cup of oatmeal for breakfast and have a Slimfast lined up for lunch. I'll stop back in later for longer chat!

Everyone have a great day! Back to work and OP for me!

03-15-2004, 11:07 AM
Morning FDC's:
Sounds like everyone, including myself had a very challenging weekend 2. Might have been because we all did so well Week 1 that we got a little comfy and of course all the other external factors didn't help. :o But just try to remember what would have happened if you weren't on a program, would you just keep going in the downward spiral OR would you bounce back like you're already doing! So, I guess I'm just trying to remind everyone to keep it in perspective. I think we're all doing very well under the circumstances

I feel okay with Week 3 so far. Went to Cardio Kickboxing yesterday (human torture) and had 30 points instead of 25. Today I will do my Power90 sculpt and 25 points. I'm concerned about my willpower on my trip since I already had a dream about having a frozen hot chocolate at a place called Serendipity 3 in Manhattan. Not to mention the Cosmos's a la "Sex & the City". Hopefully I will fair well and report back lighter.

Boating-Your back on track again so no worries. You might have retained a
lot of water from the appetizers so it might not be as bad as ya' think.
Remember, we all had a bad day last week. :(

Trixi-You're "spa" day sounds great. Those little rewards are just the
thing us girls need sometimes. Hey, I thought my hubby is the only person
in the world who'll watch certain TV programs in 5 hour stretches (like College Basketball and NASCAR!) Drives me crazy. :dizzy:

Water-Wow, 11 ACTIVITY points? That would take me a full week to achieve. That's great, AND you came in under-points (I always seem to
exhaust all of mine plus some. :hun:

Jedi-TOM is Time of the Month. Now if someone can explain OP and DH.
Is it "on program" and "domestic husband" :?: Not sure.

Deenie-Surprise days are always going to be there, I think we'll eventually
learn how to manage them. I agree it is hard, but I think once we lose most of our weight we're not going to want to regress to our old habits.
And re your appreciation, just wanted to say Thank YOU for joining us!

Hope everyone else is having a great Monday so far!

Good Morning Everyone!

Ugghh...It's been a busy last week with no hope for it slowing down either. I hit a few bumps in the road by choice. By the middle of last week I was so bloated! For NO reason, the day before I had had plenty of water, had been eating healthy, etc...etc...
Thursday night I caved in and had popcorn with Smart Balance Spread. Friday Night I ate whatever DH brought home from the store for him and the kids. Let's see...2 pieces of friend chicken, tortilla chips with salsa and some Breyers low carb chocolate ice cream and last night I had some nasty mac N cheese with chili......

With all manual labor I've been doing I should be okay! The kids and I have unloaded 2 pickup truck loads of woodchips and put them down on a 100ft. driveway flowerbed. Painted an arbor. Planted new grass on the side of the house. Loaded and hauled away some old wood. Not to mention the inside repairs and daily chores.....

Ok...Confessions out in the open.....I"m not weighing in today! We'll see what loss I have next Monday!

It's back to work for me again this week, finishing up some staining of window sills, placing some new molding, mowing & edging the grass. I'll have to organize and clean the garage, then there's the house cleaning before the realtor comes. A lot of this work is falling on my shoulders because DH is working overtime including Sat. I'll def. be ready for a vacation, which should keep my mind set on healthy eating and focused on the weight loss.

While I didn't make the best choices it could have been worse.

03-15-2004, 01:35 PM
I am in my office easting lunch right now...so just a quick note. I agree with you about last week being a killer Hula....it certaining was for me. I did go back over all the posts and found my motivation again. I will stick to my goals for the week. Talk more later...

FYI Op (yes on program) DH (darling Husband) DS (darling son) and so on

03-15-2004, 02:49 PM
Another one checking in after a challenging week. TOM, combined with a crazy schedule and some half-baked idea that this would be a good time to strip wallpaper and paint my office left me eating pizza and take out and not exercising enough. No loss, but hey, no gain either.

Today brings a new week where I've made a promise to myself to stay within my points, drink my water, and exercise at least 4X.

Thanks all for sharing your struggles, it makes things so much easier to know I'm not alone and that just because real life gets in the way sometimes that's no reason to *give up* and go back to okd eating habits.

03-15-2004, 09:11 PM
Good evening all....another Monday almost over. Had a pretty good day today stayed op with food and vitamins. I didn't get my exercise in today cause I am pretty tired but will definately do it tomorrow. I am burning again so thats good news.

It is going to be a better week for us all.....We just have to find the same motivation we had the first week. By supporting each other we can do it!!!!!

I am not going out on St. Patrick's day so I can stay OP. I think my fiance will go out but me I am going to be a good girl. I need to lose this weight and all the little self gratifiscation I have given myself has put me behind. I have to stop thinking that I have sixteen weeks to do this instead of thinking that every minute op counts.

I hope you all have a wonderful evening and will talk more tomorrow.

03-15-2004, 10:54 PM
I am sitting here typing this feeling like a beached whale - I really blew it. I was ok for breakfast, and lunch wasn't bad, but at the dept meeting today I ate several LARGE cookies, that were full of junk.

I got home and was even more ravinous. After unloading my woes on dh I did eat protien for dinner and I did do my weight video - but I got back into that thinking - "long ways off - looks so good - etc"

Reflecting back on the meeting, I realize I really am a can't eat just one gal. I could have pigged out on the whole box - except I needed to leave some for others :)

Well - tomorrow is another day - hopefully more OP

03-16-2004, 12:51 AM
Hi everyone. Just checking in after a long day. The weekend with my relatives was a struggle, but I did OK. I laxed a bit with my calories, but nothing too horrible. I got back on a strict plan today and managed to make it to the gym.

I hadn't touched base all weekend so just wanted to check in and let you all know I am still in this....more tomorrow.

03-16-2004, 09:50 AM
:coffee: Good Morning! Well, I worked at it very hard yesterday and the scale was back to 180 this morning. Going to do it again today! Still have to make up the other three pounds, but that is going to happen, I AM GOING TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

Got the JCPENNEY swimsuit catalog out and looked through it for motivation. That seems to work somewhat for me. All those skinny chicks looking so great and confident. That's what I want! Just 5 more days till the first day of spring! Yippee!!! Warmed weather can't get here soon enough. Although with warmer weather comes lighter and less clothing :o . Gotta get these pounds off!

Well, everyone locate their motivation. Mine was hiding in the pantry behind the Kashi Go Lean cereal. I yanked it out of there and put it in my pocket for the day! Hope everyone has a good one!

03-16-2004, 11:29 AM
Good Morning FDC's. Just checking in very quickly. Don't know about you girls but I'm learning a lot about myself and this challenge is turning out to be a period of introspection along with everything else.

Case in point: I realized that I subconsciously eat a lot when my house is a mess! Yesterday, I had a bad day overall - didn't get a job I interviewed for and was sore from kickboxing so I didn't exercise AND the house was a bit of a mess SO I consequently ended up going over points. Okay, so I've identified the behavior that needs to change: Emotional eating!

Case in point 2:
The scale is controlling my life! So, I vow along with some of you gals to stay away from that heap of metal until I weigh in each week. When it is a low number boy the birds are chirping, I'm superwoman and think I can end world hunger and win a nobel peace prize. But when it's on the high end of the spectrum.....I'm a loser, probably the cause of world hunger, and basically that little sad animated character from the Zoloft commercial. :( Therefore, I vow to not be scalebound moving forward! :smug:

I will write more later. I'm OP today, got exercise in and just need to follow thru with an acceptable number of points. I want to thank you girls for being there for this life changing period. You are the true pillar of strength!

"I am beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring me down"

03-16-2004, 03:47 PM
Wow - sounds like everyone had a full weekend! Everyday is unstructured for me since I am home all day with the kids. This makes it very challenging.

CanonGal - That sounds like some seriously intense labor. Good Luck! You are welcome to come to my house next!

Trixi - The self gratification will be so much bigger when it's because of losing this weight instead of small indulgences on the way. We just have to get there to realize it. Before getting pregnant I was at my goal weight and the feelings of accomplishment, self worth, and overall confidence was better than I had even imagined (which I didn't think was possible). Remembering how that felt is some of what keeps me going this time. Knowing that feeling is so much better than the candy bar staring at me in the checkout line makes it a little easier to resist.

DeanieD - I am not a "just eat one gal" myself either. As a child my mother was intensly strict about our food so my brother, sister, and myself all became closet eaters. As soon as mom wasn't looking it was a game to see how much I could eat without her knowing about it. Talk about bad habits! I've been known to polish off an entire 6 pack of blueberry crumb muffins in one sitting washed down with chocolate milk. I really had to change my way of thinking for this obstacle. Especially since I am so sensitive about people telling me what I CAN and CAN'T have. If someone at work brings donuts in, for example, I have to think I CAN have as many of those as I choose but I CHOOSE to say no thank. Maybe it is just the feeling of control.

AZKitty - Glad to see that I am not the only one not on the low-carb train (no offense anyone). If you have any low fat hints, suggestions, or recipes my ears (and mouth) are wide open.

BoatingMommy - Maybe you could cut some of the skinny swimsuit girls out and stick them on your fridge just as a reminder. I have even taken it so far as to tape them to specific foods inside the fridge. Yes, my tub of butter would not be complete without the skinny model on top!

Hula - I don't even have a scale in my house anymore!
I honestly was listening to the song Beautiful as I was reading your post! I make it a point to play that song everyday - I love it!

I went back to the Curves that has my "original scale". The evil one saying 186.5 this time it said 179.5. 7 pounds in 5 days? I called my doctor who said that it could partially due to the fact that I am still nursing my baby. I've just been eating so much crap that I haven't given myself a chance to take advantage of the weight loss aspect of it. My plan was to stop nursing next week though! My baby will be 7 months and we finally got her to take a bottle. Maybe I'll push it to the end of next week so I can utilize this for the rest of this week as well as next. It almost feels like cheating though.

Everyone - have an awesome day! Staying OP can only get easier with time!

03-16-2004, 04:05 PM
I just wanted to check in for this week. I'm only down 1 more pount to 193lbs. now. I'm a little disappointed, but I'm not no where near to giving because I lost and did not gain any weight.

This week is starting off a little slow for me, but by Wed. 3/17 I'm hoping to be full steam ahead and very very positive about this challenge.

Hope everyone else is more successful, but most importantly, staying focus.

Begin Wt.=261
Current Wt.=193
Goal Wt.=140 (or 130)

Good Day!! ;)

I think I am getting sick....darn it...I hate when you get the feeling and you just know......grrrrrrrrr. I took some Echinacia this morning...let's hope it helps, but right now...I just don't feel good. :?:

I weigh in tomorrow and the scale is not showing much - we shall see. It is so frustrating sometimes when we work so hard at the gym and eat well and ....zilch. Like, what is that? CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN THAT TO ME? What do I have to do? Eat lettuce? Live on bird seed?

Boy am I encouraging today or what?

I think I feel fat today. Yup, I definately feel fat today. It's a fact. Big, Fat, Me. I don't even want to get dressed today. If I get dressed I will have to put on clothes. I will try on the clothes I want to wear, they won't fit, and I'll have to put back on my fat clothes. Maybe I should just go buy a tent. That's it, I'll march right into the store and ask for some assistance in choosing a tent that fits. :rollpin:

I just had to get that out. I hope I am better tomorrow. Sometimes if I vent like this and go back and read it, it makes me laugh. I just read this post I just wrote, I laughed  ...I think I am better now.

Thought maybe some of you could relate... :grouphug:

03-16-2004, 04:49 PM

Gotcha there!!! I do have skinny chicks on the fridge! The one is wearing the swimsuit I would like to buy. Very cute tankini with kind-of a psychedelic print. Very cute! The little voices in my head are mostly keeping me away from the BAD, VERY EVIL foods in the fridge. I also tossed out some of the bad stuff just so it wouldn't be a temptation. Thanks for thinking of me and for your ideas!!! You are a great help.

03-16-2004, 06:03 PM
For all you work out gurus- Muscle weighs more than fat!! If you are going to be working out everyday, don't expect your weight to plummet- just keep an eye on the tape measure and see how you're doing!!

Hubby is away so my diet is crashing..it's so much easier to grab some cheese and crackers for supper when he's not around..before you know it, I've eaten more of them than I should. Granted, I'm only averaging about 40gr Carbs a day, but still, I feel guilty. I think I'm getting pre-TOM cravings..The golden arches are calling me.......and it's snowing here in MA, isn't THAT lovely...GRRRRRR....

Boatingmommy - donít worry about what you did wrong on Saturday, think about what you did right. You got right back on track the next day! That in itself is an accomplishment.

Hula - I agree with you, we all have to concentrate on what our goal is and as long as we do that we'll be ok.

CanonGal - It sounds like you are burning off everything you eat so I wouldn't worry about the few carbs you ate. :)

Trixi - I have also made decisions not to go places that I know will make me go off program. Going out drinking is one of my biggest challenges. :(

DeenieD - you did NOT blow it! you only at two cookies and the rest of the day was perfect. You even exercised! Most diet programs allow for a little extra one day. Think about your positives for the day!

Jedi - Congrats on the 7 pounds! I'd kill to lose that much in 5 days ;)

AZKitty - I know what you mean about the scale not moving like you expect it too. It seems to me that if I work out 5 days a week and stay on program that scale should be dropping fast! Unfortunately, thatís not the way it works :( Everyone keeps telling me I'll wake up one day and be able to see the difference, I just hope that day is soon!

Iím having a pretty good day, havenít really been hungry so thatís a help. Tomorrow is my weigh-in day and Iím kinda nervous. I had a bad night Friday and Iím hoping it wonít effect my weigh-in. This is the first week since I joined WW that Iíve used almost ALL my flex points (and all in one night :( ) I also find that I weigh more the morning after I work out and Iím going to Curves tonight. Does anyone else find that they weigh more after a work out?

03-16-2004, 09:13 PM
:( Well, things are not exactly going as planned tonight. I did a pretty good job eating today. For dinner I made a pot roast with carrots and potatoes. I had just a half of a small potato. I did put a little gravey on it, but very little. About half an hour afterwards my tummy totally started to churn and I have had to run to the bathroom several times now. YIKES! Maybe I am suddenly alergic to gravy. Trixi, don't faint! ( I know how much you love gravy). I tried to do my aerobics tape, but had to stop for various body functions. HELP!!! :?: Well, I will just have to do extra tomorrow and leave it at that.

Water Nymph - Thanks for the uplifting words. I am pretty proud of myself for not turning the one day goof-up into a weeks worth of tragedy. I keep telling myself that eventually I want to get to a point in my life where I can eat "non-diet" food occasionally and not panic about each little morsel.

I think that is probably to some extent a goal for all of us. We are not giving up cookies, or chocolate, or even fries and gravey FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES. I mean, I don't want to say that I'll never enjoy the taste of, oh, say oreo cookies, ever again in my life. I just want to get to a point with my body and my will power that I can occasionally have an oreo, and not be at the point where I look in the bag only to find I ate the whole first row without knowing it. I guess what I am trying to say is that we are all learning to deal with accountability. Everyone of us that has posted is doing our best to be accountable for our eating. For me, that is something I haven't done for several years. Boy, did that sound like a sermon, or what? Sorry for the heavy moment. Just remember, a cookie here or there isn't the ruination of your new life. You are all making bigger changes that should allow for an occasional cookie.

Lissandy - I wish the scale was moving, but you are right. I am noticing the changes in my pants, and that feels good! Back away from the golden arches - do not go into the light...I mean arches!

AZ - Hope you get to feeling better soon. Feeling sick sucks the happiness out of a person...so I hope you get some good rest and recuperate.

Hula - I need to join "Scale Junkies Annonymous"! (doesn't make for a good acronym - couldn't think of anything funny). I wish I had the will power to stay off of it for a week. I should make that a mini-goal....but wait....I can hear it calling to me....I need some serious intervention!!! :dizzy:

Well, to everyone else, hope you are finding your inner strength. We can do this!

03-16-2004, 11:03 PM
I did better today but was craving somethings. I did much better on my eating - at least it was balanced and not mainly junk food like yesterday. I did walk about an hour and I *should* (and now that I have told you) do my weight videos.

I am glad to see so many encouragements coming in and I think we still have a lot of us trying to do this

Hoping for the scales to move - - - - :)

03-16-2004, 11:37 PM
Almost 10:30 and I stayed completely OP all day (well I could have drank more water) Once again it was laundry night and I got home about 8:30 then exercised, the 3 mile even ( found it a bit easier than the first time). Ate dinner, okay it was little late but I only had a piece of halibut and some asparagus so I guess thats not so bad.

The worse part of the day was at the laundry mat. In order to make sure my daughter has dinner we usually get her a turkey sandwich from Tim Hortons and she eats it while she does her homework and I do the laundry. But I gave her a turkey sandwich for lunch so my fiance (I am just gonna call him Shawn from now on okay? being thats his name and all) went and got her Kentucky Fried Chicken and it smelled soooooooooooo good. She had fries with gravy too.....sniff....I took her gravy and put it right up to my nose and held it there for a good two minutes :o but I didn't eat any of it, just tortured myself is all and got some looks from the other people doing their laundry.

I agree that I don't want to think that I am never going to eat gravy again but when I do, it won't be with every meal at any time of the day. I want to be able to say to myself "Self, we should have some gravy today" I know I am an idiot about the gravy. I go on and on and on...it's all about the gravy girls.

Sounds like a few of you are feeling the way I did on the weekend and it will pass. I am feeling so much better and very proud of myself for not misbehaving. Tomorrow when I wake up and won't have to say okay this is the first day I will be good again.

My boss made me go get her beef patties today!!! and my co-worker who is on this site as well and doing South Beach allowed herself pizza today!!! She is almost at her goal weight and looks fantastic. I can't wait until my pizza day.

Scale Addicts??? pick me...I keep saying I am not going to step on that stupid thing and I did put it away yesterday but again this morning I was on it. No change and that sucked. I hope its the exercising and while I am use to seeing the scale gradually go down, if my clothes keep getting looser I will have to find happiness in that. One day I am probably going to be a clothes addict and just keep trying everything on to see if its looser and than I will forget about the scale (different method, same result...addiction to seeing change to keep motivated).

I hope everyone has a better day tomorrow and everything looks brighter for you all.........WE ARE GOING TO DO THIS!!!!!!! WE ALREADY ARE!!!!!!!

03-17-2004, 09:03 AM
:coffee: :D :coffee: GOOD MORNING!!!! Don't know how to convey how excited I am!!! Got on that stupid scale this morning and it said 176.5!!!! Of course I got on...then off ...on again. and so on for a couple of minutes. I went downstairs and said something to my husband and he said, "Well, I recalibrated it yesterday after moving it around so much with the remodeling." I am so happy...I am so happy...I am so happy! :smug:

Well, there's my motivation for the day! Hope you all have a great, fantastic, wonderful day!

Well I am jumping back on the weight loss band wagon. Actually I am taking the BFL 12 week challenge and that brings me almost to fathers day. My start date is March 21st I am starting on a sunday cause I want my free day to be on a Saturday. Not sure what my stats say right now but I will update them on Sunday morning. I am going to go back and read all the previous posts to get to know you all.

Good Luck and have a great day.

03-17-2004, 11:38 AM
you all are such an inspiration!

for those that are 200 + , how much time did you spend exercising when yo first started??

My WW weigh day is Saturday, my first weigh this week, I can hardly wait to "officially" start.

03-17-2004, 01:10 PM
Boatingmommy - WAY TO GO!!!!!!!! I wish I had good news to report. This weeks weigh in I am the same. nothing lost for me. I don't know if its' the TOM coming up in a few days or what. I have been so good. I am going to kick it up a notch this next two weeks....perhaps less weights and more cardio. I am also going to drowned myself in water as I feel a bit behind in my loss this month. I am wavering on changing my plan back to a low carb... I just know I can't do low carb forever...this is the challenge.

Welcome to the new gals.

Trixi - Oh can I relate to the KFC gravy story! Sometimes smelling it can be just as good (well maybe not, but close).

Hula - I think you go on vaca tomorrow - have a blast!

Still sick, but baring it - wish me luck in my workout today. I don't think I have ever worked out when I was sick. Today I will.

Check back in soon. I am going to go drink some water and see if I can't get that scale to move.
hugs and purrs,

Welcome to the newbies - glad to have you along!

Boatingmommy you said
I think that is probably to some extent a goal for all of us.

This is so true. I keep telling myself, this is not a diet, but a new way of life - better eating, more movement, and trying not to label myself a failure if I am Off program once in a while. Thanks for the reminder!

03-17-2004, 05:52 PM
Hey FDC's :) . I read the posts and it was very uplifting (some even comical..AzKitty :p ) Congrats on the losses you guys! (Sorry I can't respond to each one but believe me I've read 'em all.) I am in awe over the drive and motivation our group has. :cp:

Welcome to the Newbies: Hockey Chick and RyzMom! This is a great little "cafe" :coffee2: to share our successes, ups-and-downs, and of course, challenges. We're making this happen and pleased to have you on board!!!

Well, I'm finally off to my much needed vacation! I always think about you all and how well we're all doing - even if we sometimes don't realize it. If it weren't for each other, I'm sure many of us would still be "starting tomorrow"! So, we're making great strides and slowly but surely making this happen.

Good luck everyone and I'll be checking in and weighing in on Monday instead of Sunday. I am planning on being a good girl and got to thinking that even if I lost 1 pound per week, I'd be pretty darn happy.

Cheers to all and have a wonderful week. :goodluck:

Hi everyone :)

I weighed in this morning and lost 1 pound. Not bad I'm thinking.

will post more later :D

03-17-2004, 08:45 PM
Howdy chickies! Night is falling....and so are the numbers on our scales!!!

Well, had a pretty good day. Did a pretty good job with the food. Breakfast - 1 cup Kashi cereal w/ 1/2 cup skim milk
Lunch - 2 egg omlet with mushrooms, onions and green peppers mixed in. Plus a piece of last night's pot roast
Dinner - huge salad and 1 slice peperoni pizza
For snack at 2:00 p.m. I had a handful of dried fruit and almond trail mix.

I did my 45 minute Strength and Grace video workout and sweated my buns off!!! I love that workout. Very intense without the huffing and puffing. I can feel the difference in my muscles.

Hula - Hope you have a great mini-vacation. Enjoy!

Water N - One pound less you have to worry about. Every ONE leads to 5...10...15.

DeenieD - Glad you didn't think I was getting to wordy. Sometimes I worry that I'm sounding *****y or preachy instead of supportive, which is what I really want to be.

ryz mom - Glad to have you along. I started out at 245 lbs 4 yrs ago. I lost the first 65 pounds by working out 5 days a week for a half and hour each time. Make sure it is something you can learn to enjoy. For me it is aerobic videos. Love to get up and dance.

Hockeychic - since you haven't officially started yet you might want to take stock of what's in your fridge and pantry. Make sure that there are some healthy alternatives in there. If possible get rid or anything too tempting that you know you tend to not be able to put down. Good luck, we are with you!

Trixi - It is too funny to picture you sniffy gravey! Good for you for only sniffing. Is that kind of like the Bill Clinton thing...." I puffed, but I didn't inhale?" You sniffed but you didn't consume. I have seen lots of crazy things at the laundry mat...but....

AZ - Your dedication is very noteworthy. I hope you made it through your workout despite the poor health. Keep getting better.

Okay, I have wasted enough time...gotta go be a mother for a while.

Hugs to all!

03-17-2004, 08:47 PM
Good evening everyone!!!!! Welcome Hockychic (glad to see you over here as well) I have found great motivation on this thread I know you will enjoy.

Looks like we all got our motivation back on track. Waternymph GREAT JOB!!!!!!

Stayed op again today and very happy....had "the girls" at work going out for St. Patrick's day and begging me to go with for "just one" and what did I do I said "no way, jose, I am going shoe shopping cause my feet kill me half way through my work out". This was quite the feat to say no, expecially since they kept asking every five minutes and I have never said no before. I figured I am going to use boatingmommys satuarday experience and pretend I was there (so I am taking half the blame okay boatingmommy?) So I have already celebrated this holiday right?

I went and bought the shoes and than Shawn asked if I wanted to "pick up" anything for tonight (which means beer) and I said "no thank you I am fine" proud of me? I sure am! I am going to have dinner soon watch Surviour and Extreme Makeover, have a shower and say nighty night.

No exercise today I am going to do it every other day now and hope to see a loss soon. I think I might be putting my body into shock exercising everyday and its just starting to store everything I eat. (that's what someone told me anyway)

Everyone is doing sooooo great. Hula have an amazing time and we will be thinking of you as well. Mostly saying things like "shoot that girl gets to take a vacation and we are all stuck here!" seriously have fun!!!!!

Good Night all!!!!!

03-17-2004, 08:53 PM
OPPS....Rysmom WELCOME...I think we are all pretty much dedicated to eating right (whatever program we are on) and getting the exercise in. Have to do what works for you and keep at it. We all have slip ups and that's what we are here for. SUPPORT and boy I have received more than I have given with this thread.

Just jump on it and stay with us cause were all here for the long run!!!!!

03-18-2004, 08:47 AM
Hey girls! Haven't had a chance to write back for a couple days - baby has had a fever. I still have been reading everyday though. I was still able to go to the gym both Mon and Tue and last night was my first TOPS meeting. It was also my LAST. Not that it wasn't supportive it just wasn't for me. It went very very slow and if I am going to take an hour out of my schedule it is going to have to be woth it. Maybe I will reserve that night for one extra long workout since it is in the middle of the week. Besides, I have gotten 100 times more support in here from you guys!
I resisted the scale Tuesday when I went to work out. I need to pick a specific weigh in day so it's not so random. What is encouraging though is that I am definately feeling a difference in my clothes already!!!! ROCK ON!!!!

Congrats on the 1 pound loss for both WaterNymph and Patmartinbrim!! WooHoooo!

Hula - Heck, 1 pound a wee works out to be a whopping 52 pounds in a year! That is something I think we could all handle. Have extra fun for all of us while you are vacationing. We are all jealous.

BoatingMommy - glad to hear you have girls on your fridge too. Congrats on the 3 pound loss - that is awesome!

AZKitty - I hate having "fat" days. WHere it doesnt' matter if you've lost for the week you just feel FAT! There is definately a seperation of Fat clothes and clothes that I would like to fit into again. Sometimes looking at them is encouraging. The problem comes when I try them on too soon and they waaaay super do not fit. Hope you get more inspired for the rest of the week.

Trixi - Awesome job for staying OP! Way to go on resisting the tempation of going out with the girls. There will be a day where we know we can go out and we will have all the willpower in the world but in the meantime it was encouraging to see that you know your limitations. Encouraging to know that I will not die if I say no thank you to things. Did you find shoes for working out? I just did that last week. I am very very picky when it comes to shoes. Went to Big 5, Fred Meyer, JC Penny, .... and couldn't find anything I thought was cute as well as something that would give me enough support. Then I was at Target buying socks (which convienently are located next to the shoes) and found the perfect pair. Never would I have thought to look at Target since I think their shoe selection sucks but I think these are the best feeling tennis shoes I have ever owned and for only $25! The brand is Freestlye and you literally feel like jumping as soon as you put them on. I am not exaggerating because I took my 15 year old step daughter to buy the same pair and she had a very similar reaction. "wow I feel like I want to go work out". Thought is was funny - sorry to ramble.

I think Thursdays will be my "official" weigh in day from now on (partially because that means I will be able to weigh in today). Think good thoughts tonight for me. Hopefully all my hard work is paying off in a way that I will be able to see in scale numbers.

03-18-2004, 10:24 AM
Good morning everyone!!!! I took someone's advice (can't remember who) and started taking my measurements on Sunday. I have being feeling like nothing is working cause the scale has not shown a loss this week. So this morning I showed a 1 pound loss which is two for this week but I am use to losing much faster and was really depressed this morning so I took out the measurement tape and after having a very personal conversation with it "please you would kindly show some sort of result cause your friend the scale is just not cooperating and you could be my new best friend if you play your cards right" I measured my hips and waist. I have lost 2 1/2 inches on my hips!!!!! and 1 1/2 from my waist!!!!! So I guess someone was right and the scale is going to my mother in laws house (two blocks away) and I will go over there once a week (Sunday) and weigh in. I am not going to give up my exercise like I contemplated but will be even more diligent about doing it.

I hope you girls have a great day. Jedi I am glad the baby is feeling better and yes I found the shoes I like at The Bay and will use them tonight and hopefully not get the cramp in my toes that has been happing with my others.

Talk more tonight!!!!

I've discovered this weird phenomenon. If I weigh myself the morning after I work out I will weigh at least a pound more then on the morning after I donít work out. Tuesday night is a normal heavy work out for me and Wednesday morning is my normal weigh-in day. When I weigh in on Wednesday I will show a small loss for the week. Wednesday day evening is either no work out or a very short one. Thursday morning when I weigh-in Iíll be at least 1 pound less. This make NO sense to me! Now I know I shouldnít be stepping on the scale both days but its hard not to.

Has anyone else who works out experienced this?

03-18-2004, 12:49 PM
Just a quick "hello" to everyone before I go for my walk this morning. Sorry I haven't been around the last few days, but my hubby was pretty ill. We even ended up going to the doctor and then him going for several tests. I was pretty worried about him, since he is never sick. I think it must be the tremendous stress from his job and trying to settle into our new house and a bunch of other stresses in our life right now. A lot hit us at once. One of the doctor's recommendations was to eat more vegetables and drink more water and to eat right. I guess that's important for all of us. He is at a normal weight and looks good, so I didn't think I ever had to worry about him.

OK, I've got to get going. Just had to stop by and let you know I was thinking about you all.

Tomorrow is my weigh in.

Hi all... I'd like to join if you don't mind. I've looked over the weeks and I'd like to lose 28 pounds by Father's Day. That would put me at 125....my ultimate goal. And Father's day (Almost the beginning of summer would be the perfect date for me to be at my ideal weight).

I've been dieting since late october and working out since september. So far I've been cheat free for almost 4 days...(those darn girl scout cookies!)

Hope you all don't mind if I join...I'm going to go update my signature!

03-18-2004, 04:58 PM
Lori, Glad to have you aboard! If that's a current picture, I think you look GREAT!
I've been doing a low carb plan for coming up on four weeks now. I've lost 10 lbs, and seem to be stalling a bit, but I"m not discouraged- I know it can happen sometimes..course it doesn't help if I snack on cheeze and crackers either, but I'm pretty consistant at staying under 40 carbs for the day.

Glad you joined us!

03-18-2004, 05:48 PM
Glad to have you join us Lori and I agree your pics looks great.

Water Nymph - my daughter claims that too - she will only weigh on Mondays - since she takes Sun off her training. It might depend if you easily put on water weight - some people's bodies hold water pretty easily. Mine doesn't - in fact I rarely weigh more than a pound difference from morning to evening or day to day. My problem is I love to sneak a peak at the scale between weigh ins and then hate myself. I could weigh 20 times a day!! If I just step on it lightly - - or lean forward a little - - or exhale and hold my breath - - LOL

Glad to see so many people posting losses and even better posting they are sticking with the program and resisting temptation - WAY TO GO.

I just finished grading finals and putting grades in the computer so time for a nap - weigh in is tomorrow -- Here's for hoping for a loss

03-18-2004, 10:29 PM
Good evening all!!!!

Had a lousy day today at work. When I got home I didn't want to do my exercise but made myself and I feel better now that I did. Who would have ever thought that exercise gets rid of stress.

I have been logging onto Fitday and my calorie intake is really low around 600 a day. Do you guys think that with the exercise and eating I am not getting enough? I am not sure if I should bump it up abit or not. Tonight I didn't eat one of my pre-cooked meals. I had a hamburger (without the bun) with veggie cheese on it and a tomatoe with a little light done right cucumber dressing (1 teaspoon) it was sooooooo yummy.

Those inches lost have really given me encouragement to continue the exercising even with the stupid scale stalling.

Okay...remember when I said I was going to figure out something to do this weekend so I wouldn't misbehave? Well, nix that!! it's Shawn's birthday on Monday and Friday he wants to go out and "the girls" found out so their coming too. I am going to try to behave most of the night and will definately not eat badly. But the drinking is going to be an issue. I did find that low carb beer and it doesn't taste so bad. My plan is to skip the after work thing and let them meet up with us afterward so I can go home and exercise before going out and that will mean less drinking for me. Good plan huh? See if I stick to it.

Welcome Lory I also think you look fantastic and you will look even more amazing once you think you do!!! It's all relative right? I keep saying to myself that I will bring a picture into work so I can scan it. I was going to do a spoof of before and during and then do and after (the before one would be when I was happy about my weight and the during would be now and hopefully the after will be just like the before) i will put a string on my finger and try to remember for the morning.

Den I am sorry to hear about your hubby...we will all pray he gets better real fast!!!! Make him eat right and drink that water!!!! Soon you will have to make appointments to use the bathroom

Lissandy Ten pounds it amazing and it will continue your going great....tell those cheese and crackers to behave (well the crackers anyway, cheese not so bad).

Waternymph I have found the same thing with the exercising and weight thing I am trying to give up the scale (for awhile I was thinking about stopping the exercise and then put myself in check)

Well tomorrows Friday and weigh in is Sunday for me I think I might hold off until Monday like Hula. Will see how the weekend goes.

03-19-2004, 01:48 AM
Lori AS - good to have you in the group.

This is going to be a quick one - had a good day today....on plan all day, yahoo!

Trixi - Your weightloss is awesome, but you gotta eat a little more. Your body is not getting the nutrients it needs just to function without any movement. 600 Calories is WAY too low for healthy weightloss. At 169 pounds, 1200 is a minimum OK level (maybe even a bit low) and certainly low if you excercise alot. This is your journey, so you need to do what feels right to you, but your body will become exhausted soon if you do not pick up your calorie intake at least a little bit.

One idea would be to go look up your BMR (Basal Medibolic Rate). This is the number of calories your body needs to eat, breathe, digest food, etc. That will be the minimum calories you should eat while dieting. There are several BMR calculators on the web. Anyway - I hope this helps a bit. You will actually get a better metabolism by eating a bit more.

I am no expert and am losing much more slowly than you - but I do encourage you to eat a bit more cuz we all wanta see you looking slim AND healthy and FABULOUS DARLING.

Bye for now

03-19-2004, 03:09 AM
Real Quick
Got called in to work tonight so that meant no workout and the gym. That is two days in a row! What's worse is that today was my weigh in day since it is exactly one week ago that I started this journey. I'm going tomorrow so I'll weigh then. Maybe one extra day will be in my favor! Have a good night!!!

03-19-2004, 08:18 AM
Thank you all for the welcome and compliments. I actually just posted my before and current pictures on another thread here (http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34892&page=5)...

I think you are right in that I have to finally be happy with myself. I stalled last month because I was happy with the weight I had lost to date. When I realized that I was sabatoging my own efforts I started getting more OP. Now, I've been on plan for several weeks (minus 1 or 2 accidents) and I'm stalled again. It's frustrating, but I can tell the inches are diminishing because clothes are getting looser.

I think it's just tough because when we set goals they are in lbs and when that scale stops moving it's frustrating!

Ok, going to start "cheat-free" day number 5!!! Have a ball today girlies! :)

03-19-2004, 09:13 AM
Good morning! Kinda in a rush, got started late with the morning workout and now I have to hustle. Did both 2 mile watp video yesterday and my 45 minute aerobic workout. Can you believe the scale went up a pound this morning? Maybe I should drop the weights for a while. Anyways...

Trixi - I agree with AZ. You need to eat some more calories, good calories. Your body will eventually go into starvation mode if you aren't getting enough and will store what fat it can instead of giving it up more easily.

I wish I had time to write more. Keep your eyes on the goals you have set and have a great Friday!

03-19-2004, 10:40 AM
Good morning everyone!!!!!!!

Thanks for the food advise I agree but don't know what I should eat. I will do some more research on good calories to eat that are low carb.

Today I feel great as I have shown another pound loss and my clothes fit loose today!! I feel like a million bucks and want to feel this way tomorrow as well so I am going to try and remember that tonight when we go out.

I have met my mini goal for Shawn's b-day and have made a new one for Easter. I like to little goals as well as this 16 week one.

I hope everyone has a good day and will post more tomorrow, hopefully with no bad news.

03-19-2004, 01:30 PM
Congrats to all you losers and a big WTG to everyone for staying so motivated and upbeat!

I've been doing well with my eating and my water, but that exercise thing just isn't happening. The weather has been nasty so I haven't been out to walk at all. I'm impressed with how many of you are talking about success with the WATP videos so I'm making it my mission to get them this weekend so I have no more excuses! (Will I have any luck at a place like Wal-Mart? I'd rather not order online or I'll use the excuse that they're not here yet for another week!)

Weigh in is Monday and I'm determined to see a difference in the scale this week. I'm going out with a crowd tonight so I've made a game plan to have a very late lunch and a sensible dinner so I'm not tempted to graze on appetizers. I've saved enough points for a couple of glasses of wine and am planning to dance away a few calories. :dancer:

Wishing everyone a fun and OP weekend.

03-19-2004, 04:41 PM
I blew it today - ate almost a whole box of GS cookies - what made me do that???

And it is only noon!

03-19-2004, 04:46 PM
Just checking in on this beautiful Friday afternoon. I took the day off and had a great morning. I got up, had coffee, worked out with my trainer at 10 and had a healthy lunch. I am getting ready to go lay in the pool. It is 93 here today and just amazing. I am going to start my tan. .....I will fall asleep and dream of my slim, tan, self.....SOON!

I am still a bit frustrated that I am just not losing much weight. I am eating an amount of calories that should allow for at least 1.5-2 lbs per week. and that ain't happen'n. I am convinced it is all of the weight lifting. :strong: I am losing inches. It is still frustrating. I am staying on plan though. I haven't goofed up. I count every calorie. I hope one morning I wake up, get on the scale and BOOM, down in pounds.

You all help keep me motivated. I did not gain these 70 pounds in a year and I just have to remember it could take me a year to lose them.

Anyways. You all are great encouragement to me. I am so greatful for these boards. :grouphug:

I started a new vitamin plan the other day. I was actually quite happy with the Mega vitamin I was taking. I also take Mega B125 and a B12 sublingual. I had my aunt in town though and she was telling me about these vitamins that my aunt and uncle have been taking. They just looked amazing for their age. Like they had lost 10 years since the last time I had seen them. And their energy...my word...... so I had them shipped and am trying them. They are made by Mannatech (online web site) and have some funky ingredients (bovine testes? :yikes: ) but what the heck. None of what is in them looks too out of the ordinary (except the bovine ;-)....that's a bit wierd....hope I don't start growing hoofs). Anyway. I do feel a bit more bounce in my step. We shall see.

Well, off to the pool.....I hope you all have a fantastic weekend.
hugs and purrs,

03-19-2004, 08:33 PM
Happy Friday, Everyone!!!

Down another pound. Yaaaahoooooo!!

Trixi, I want to thank you for your thoughtfulness and kind words. Hubby is back to work, on a couple of different medications and will see a specialist in a couple of weeks. Things are starting to get back to normal. The doctor had me worried for a while.

I rejoined my gym, so it's back to the treadmill and elliptical for me.

Kitty, great job with the exercise. Muscle does weigh more than fat. You are probably losing inches and look great!

Mahtha, have fun tonite and good luck on the scale on Monday.

Hula, how are ya? I bought salmon sushi and water with electrolytes at Trader's today.

Boatingmommy, I love your exercise routine. Hang in there. I know the inches are melting away.

Have a super weekend, everyone!

Hey all!!!!!! It's Saturday morning and it's blah outside and my insides feel the same. Again I was a bad girl last night but I don't have the guilt. I was talking to someone last night and came to the conculsion that this is definately a lifesytle change but there are a few things I don't want to change about me and what I enjoy. One of those being a Friday night out with my friends. I use to go out more and have stopped doing that but these Friday's are the only real socializing I do anymore and I don't want to be a hermit. I would love to be able to go out and cut down on the amount I drink but I think that's a gradual thing that I will have to train myself to do. I just don't want to feel guilty cause I chose to go out and play.

Yesterday was a really amazing day for me. In the afternoon on my lunch I had decided to go out and get Shawn's birthday present and went to the Eaton Centre (which is the biggest mall we have here in Toronto) and was trying to figure out what to get him and passed by my favorite store (Reitmans) I love this store cause they have a line of clothing called Encore which is clothing for plus sizes that look like regular clothing and not moomoo's. So I went in to see if there was anything new that I might like and started to try on some things. I found these great pants that look like jeans but are really slacks. I tried them on the they fit perfectly I hadn't looked a size until after I tried the on and I only did cause they were more snug then I thought they should be and when I looked at the size they were a 14!!!!!! I went from an 18 to a 14!!! I was gleeful in the store and I really wanted the pants and needed a shirt to go with it so I started trying some on and the sales girl came up to the dressing room cause she saw that I was having trouble finding a shirt and she said to me "I really don't think you need the Encore line why not try on some things from the regular selection and just go with an large or extra large!!!! I was going to kiss her. I knew she was telling me the truth and not just trying to flatter me cause I always have the same sales girl and last time she was showing me only things from the Encore line!!!!!!!!!!! I was in heaven for the rest of the day. I bought three shirts and my new favorite pants. I went back to the office and told my co-worker about my shopping experience and she has been really supportive about my dieting and wanted me to go try them on and show her. So I did and when I changed everyone in the office said how great I looked and it really showed how much weight I have lost and I should throw my old outfits out right away cause they didn't do me justice!!!!!! I can't tell you how happy I was yesterday I finally felt like this was all worth it and I am not going to give up until I reach my goal.

I never did change out of the outfit and after work when we went to the local bar (I know I said I was going home to exercise but you really did beleive me do you?) everyone there complimented me as well. It was a total me night and I had a great time even my mother in law said how fantasic I looked.

I wish everyone of you girls who have helped me out with this on going struggle gets to have one of those days really soon (today would be great) It is really an ego and motivation booster for me and you all deserve it just as much!!!!

I did go overboard last night with the drinking and when we got home we ordered two small pizzas and in the past I would have eaten my whole entire small pizza but last night I only had 2 slices and did not eat the crust. So while I was off program I did not go as far I would have in the past. I am not going to feel bad about it either that was yesterday and today is a whole new day. I did not weigh myself this morning cause I want this good feeling to stay with me and I am not stepping on that scale until Monday so if I stay the same with a 3 pound loss for the week then I will just have to accept that won't I?

Okay enough about me!!!!!! Deenie - Everyone needs some "cookie" time and try not to feel too bad about it. You've lost 8 pounds and you are doing a great job.

Azkitty - Let me know how the vitamins work out and if you do grow hoofs you won't have to worry about buying shoes any more!!!!!! Imagine the amount of money you will save during your life time!!!

Den - I am happy that your husband is getting better and it's great that they have found out what could be wrong. The worst part is not knowing isn't it?

To everyone else I hope you all have a great Saturday and hopefully the weather is better there then here. Feels like Fall right now.

How exciting and congratulations on the new size and new clothes!!

I've been reading the DR Phil book and one of the things he really thinks is important is exactly what you are talking about - a lifestyle change, not a diet. I think you are right on the mark. You need to make changes, be aware and also know when you may be doing things that won't help the weight loss, but what will you do to offset it.

Another thing he suggests is getting rid of ALL too big clothes. ONe, so you won't have anything to wear is you gain weight, but more importantly to help your self-esteem. YOu need to feel pretty at any weight and dress nicely so you do feel good. Sounds like it is working for you!!

I woke up about 2 am with a mother of migraines - yikes - it is still bad after 2 doses of meds and it is now noon. Maybe from the overdose of cookies - hum,,,,,

Anyway have a great day

CONRATULATIONS ON GOING DOWN SEVERAL SIZES!! That's so great that your office co-workers are supportive, too. Keep up the great work! You're an inspiration to us all. :bravo: Have a great weekend (and don't be a hermit.) :)

Hi, it's me Diana (DewCan), I'm on someone else's computer and it's a hassle to change the login name. Hope you're all doing well. I'm missing you ladies. I gained a pound last week, I don't know why, and am really frustrated with that. To those who are succeeding keep it going. Well gotta go, one fingered typing is too hard.

Hi there. Thanks Trixie for inviting me to join! i have looked through some of the posts and you all look very motivated which is just what i need right now!
I will cut and paste my intro below
<< Motivated to Lose and need some support!

I am super super motivated to lose this weight and i need some people to bust a$$ with me to do it. i would like a group who will do challenges and weigh ins and keep me motivated!
Here is my story...
I am a stay at home mom to 3 children. My oldest is 5 and then i have an almost 2 year old and a 7 month old. After my first I got down to a size 6 and then steadied around an 8. i stayed an 8 until i got pregnant with iour middle child. I gained 65 pounds and never lost it. Within 6 months i was pregnant again and did the same thing.
i am the absolute heabviest I have ever been at 214 lbs and NEED to lose this weight.
My goal is to be a size 6-8 by summer.
I know it sounds over ambitious but i have done it once (after my first pregnancy) and I know i can do it again.
I need supermotivated women (and men too) to help keep this motivation level up where it is now.
Any takers?
I promise to give great challenges, share great recipes, motivate you and you will lose weight with me
Jenn 220/214/145>>

I am VERY motivated to lose, so joining 3 weeks late won't be a problem as long as none of you mind! I know how to do this weightloss thing and know it works soooooo, I will be losing with the best of ya!

So far what I am doing is
*drinking at LEAST 8 glasses of water (usually in the form of Crystal Light) a day
*I have give up soda, sweets etc
*3 meals and 2 healthy snacks a day
*gradual inclusion of an exercise program'I am getting a new gym membership on monday:) I am so exited to get back into it.

My mini goal is to lose 5 more pounds by April 1st
My father's day goal will be a whopping 40 pounds so about 3 pounds a week! I know it is a long shot but I will work hard to try to reach it!

Thank you for letting me join you!

Fathers Day challenge weights

03-21-2004, 11:32 AM
DewCan - We miss you very much as well and hope you come back "full time" real soon!!!!

Jenn - I am so glad that you decided to join us!!!! I think your going to give us just as much as we will give you. The one thing I have found with this challenge and the women who have joined so far is that whatever your goals are for father's day they are not set in stone and we never lecture about if we think it's doable or not. In the beginning my goal was for 40 pounds as well and if I posted that anywhere else I might have been bombarded with how unreasonable that is, but not here. We all know what our own bodies can do and how we can do it. Some of us are doing low-carb, low fat, more exercise well I can go on but you will see just from our posts. I am doing low-carb and my exericse is the 3 mile WATP dvd.

The one thing I have learned by being in this challenge is that everyoone here is motivated to lose and stick to the father's day date (hopefully afterward I won't have to go cold turkey from you girls and we will have a post father's day challenge as well) So once again welcome we look forward to you input as well.

Thanks to you all for the congrats on my new size. This is the time of the week that I must make new goals for next week. I didn't do to great with the exercise last week so one of my goals is to get more in. Okay here goes....

Week Four Goals

More Water (I gotta get it in me!!!)

Exercise at least five times this week (I am going to try and get up an hour earlier so I can do it in the morning instead of worrying if dinner will be ready at a decent hour and than having to exercise before bed)

Intake at least 400 more calories a day (I have been getting to little)

Cut down on the coffee and when I do drink it do it with milk instead of my powdered creamer (2 grams of carbs each coffee I have !!!!!!!!)

So here we go on to week four!!! Have a great Sunday all!!!!

03-21-2004, 12:29 PM
Wow, i could never do low carb!!!!
I was actually expectinga lot of you can't lose that much weight and be healthy, but i know I can because I did it before being pregnant. I have a lot of weight that does not belong on my body so it goes quickly.
My trouble is one i get down to 160 or 170 the scale moves way way way too slowly.

My trick for getting all of my water is crystal light. I make one container of it first thing in the mornin and carry my water bottle filled with it. I can't get enough now! It only has 40 calories of all 64 ounces and i know I wouldn't drink water otherwise:)

03-21-2004, 11:23 PM
Gee, It was quiet here this weekend I hope everyone is okay!!!!

I got everything done today (except the cleaning of the house) my food for the week is cooked and I have added more calories i.e. honey garlic chicken breast in stead of plain. I exercised and feel great about it.

Hot mamma I feel lucky that I don't need to give up the sweets or pop cause I never liked them to begin with. I am coffee, tea and beer drinker and the only other thing I like to drink is the water. But I know it's harder for others who are use to fruity or pop like drinks. I said this before but I don't know what I would look like now if I had a sweet tooth!!!

I am glad your so motivated and I feel that as long as you stay that way that is what really helps the weight loss. You got to feel it to beleive it!!! Keep up the great work.

Well spring is here and it certainly doe not feel like it here but I am looking forward to it. I am bringing my pictures into work tomorrow and will post them. They are pretty bad. They were taken at Shawn's (my fiance, for Jenn) grandmothers pool this past summer and are in really bad angles. I have put them on my fridge to remind me what I don't want to be anymore. I am still trying to locate the ones where I was just starting to gain weight but still looked okay....totally a big difference!!!! I will post those when I find them :)

Going to take my measurements tomorrow morning and post them as well. I took them last Sunday for the first time and I think I will do them once a week from now on. I have gotten rid of the beer in the house and even the empties so they don't remind me that I am NOT GOING TO DRINK FOR AT LEAST TWO WEEKS!!!! I screamed that in hopes that I will listen this time. Shawn and I have agreed to stop for awhile. The goal is until my b-day which is May 21 but I am starting with two weeks as you all already know what a challenge this has been for me already.

Oh yeah!!! Den I am sorry I never did say Congratulations on the pound loss!!!!! your doing a great job!!!!! especially with worrying about hubby!!! stress is the worst enemy for weight loss...as well as Krispy kreme donuts  or fries with gravy (which I had yesterday and they really weren't so great, I think I like to miss them more then I like to eat them)

Hopefully everyone will peek in tomorrow and post alittle.....Hula comes back and maybe she will tell us how great her trip was....can't wait to hear the details!!!!!

03-22-2004, 11:00 AM

What a week. Scale is STUCK.. I'm sure of it. I started little workouts this week using light weights, but I don't think that is why it got stuck..just gonna have to work a bit harder, that's all. I think TOM may be early this month, so what else is new? Maybe when I look better I will cycle better..must be this getting old thing.

Oh well, I guess it happens to all of us....as long as you are all here to help me get thru it I'll be fine!!

Trixie, I'm INSANELY jealous of you and so proud at the same time!! I tried on a pair of shorts yesteday :yikes:  , but at least they fit..now if I can lose the jelly belly that's showing so profusely I'll feel better. I know I will, and I started an old Tony Little AB's video this morning to help. I couple that with leg exercises 'in between' while I am waiting to move on to the next exercise..this way I get in a 20minute work out..heck, it's a start.

Hope everybody is doing great- it sure looks like you all are!

03-22-2004, 01:03 PM

Man have I been struggling emotionally with this! Today is my weight in day. I'm the same. Thank goodness, It could have been worse. With the work I've managed not to gain. I think I caved because of all the STRESS!
OK, done whinning~ I'm pulling myself up by the boot straps and hopefully I have a new motivation to keep me going in the right path. Besides all the right reasons to be healthy and make a new lifestyle for myself, I want to look good for our family vacation!

TOM is creeping up on me, which makes me a huge cry baby. I had a spell last night. It's so pathetic what sets me off. So, I woke up with swollen eyes and look like Cr*p.
I KNOW my weight and health are directly related to my hormonal issues and how I feel.

Is anyone else dealing with these issues? Can we talk about it! It, being the "D" word that hits like a brick sometimes. I feel so ugly and unattractive. The world is so full of beautiful people and then I catch a glimps of myself in the mirror and I crack!

I'm sorry for going off with my emotional weakness today. I just need to get it off my chest.
Were hoping to go to Fl. in May. It's been a while since we've had a real get away trip. This would be so fun with the kids. The plan would be Orlando & St. Pete/Clearwater area. The beach/bathing suit issues are scarring me to death. If I don't stay focused I'm going to hate myself for being so stupid and giving into my emotions.

03-22-2004, 02:20 PM
:coffee: HAPPY MONDAY!!!!! I am sooooooooo happy today. I got on the scale and I think someone finally started the motor on that thing cuz it's started to move....FINALLY!!!!!!! 204.5 today. I am praying that this stays off through my weigh-in on Wednesday.

I feel badly for not checking in all weekend but it was just amazingly gorgeous here in AZ. I layed in the pool all weekend (it was 97 degrees in AZ). :flow2:

It was a bit depressing digging out the old bathing suit (ugh) :faint: but ya gotta start somewhere. A tan always helps the fat look less....well......FAT....at least I think so.

CanonGal...I can RELATE. I will just be walking around the house or sitting reading or something and then just BURST into tears  for absolutely no reason. I feel like a freak and then that makes me laugh....then when I really start thinking I'm nuts I begin crying and laughing at the same time. I am an absolute koooook at that TOM.....and for me that TOM is right now.....so I'm with ya sista'...! :grouphug:

Welcome hot mama.

Trixi - I TOTALLY relate on the drinking thing. I have given it up for lent (through Easter) and it has been one of the hardest things I have ever done because that is my way to unwind at the end of the day - a nice glass of wine. I can not WAIT :bomb: to have a glass of wine on Easter. I do think that everything in moderation is OK. I thought that the lack of booze in my diet would have helped speed up my weightloss, but it didn't...so you can bet I won't be giving that up again ;-)!

Well - wish me luck in keeping these pounds off through weigh-in on Wednesday. More later.....

03-22-2004, 02:39 PM
I'm down another pound which sounds like good news, but I've been working hard to stay OP and the results just aren't showing. It's averaging 2 pounds a week, I guess realistically I can't expect more more than that (but I can hope, right?)

Thanks all for the WATP advice. I bought the DVDs Saturday night and did both the 1 and 2 mile walks yesterday. I'll do the 3 today and try to do that at least 5X/week. I have no more excuses about weather, etc. I WILL EXERCISE! I'm hoping this will really jump start both the loss of weight and inches for me. I'm SO tired of not being able to find clothes that fit.

03-22-2004, 03:34 PM
Goooood Morning, Everyone!
I just came back from my brisk walk, and naturally, I always feel better. This last week I've been changing the way I eat. So maybe that's helping my morale a bit. I'm trying to eat more fish, less carbs, lots of veggies, no sugar and more than 8 glasses of water. Eating fish is different for me, so I give myself 2 stars! :flow1: :flow1: (I don't know how to do stars.)
My doc told me to start eating sushi, which I thought would be horrible. And now I actually crave it! Also, I rejoined my gym, so I am pretty proud of myself. :D

Mahtha, congrats to you on losing a pound. I know how you feel about it being so slow. I've been losing slowly, too. But hang in there. We can cheer each other on. :bravo:

AZ, congrats to you for losing this week. And how great to be laying by the pool!! I live in fabulous Las Vegas and the weather here has been wonderful, too. I agree about the tan thing. When I have a tan, I always feel healthier and thinner.

Canongal, I can totally relate to stress, eating, then feeling ugly. I still have to find another outlet for when I'm totally stressed, cause eating isn't cutting it. :dizzy: Lately, I'm trying to do other things when the craving hits. I try to keep busy inbetween meals and not eat. It's not always easy, but it's getting better. :)

Liss, congrats to you on doing Tony Little Tapes!

Trixi, Super congrats to you for giving up the booze for a while. I can't believe how a drink or two can really add on those pounds. At least you don't live here in fabulous Las Vegas where the booze is always flowing.
Kudos to you!

Hot Mama, Welcome to our group! You sound like you have a great plan. Keep up the great work!!

Have a great week, everyone!
Dena

Oh my! So much has happened since I logged on last. I was gone for the entire weekend so I haven't had a chance to peek in. I stopped nursing my baby as of Friday morning at 9:00 so it has also been a very painful weekend as well. Which certainly meant no working out since I could barely move. I'm sure my weight is waaay up just because of the "extra" in my chest. Maybe it will go down once I'm all dried up. What is bothering me most though is my knees. Maybe it is from not working out for two years and then jumping into it full throttle but I can barely walk. I haven't worked out since last Tuesday. I was hoping that they would feel better but they only have gotten worse. Any suggestions on what is going on and what I can do about it? I don't really feel like I'm doing very well unless I'm going to the gym. Very frustrated and very much in pain. - HELP!

03-22-2004, 06:13 PM
Howdy gals! Gosh, so much reading to catch up on after not checking in since Saturday morn. There is so much going on with everybody. I was in the final stages of finishing up the new bathroom (we gutted and remodeled/enlarged our master bath the past 6 weeks, for those who are coming in late.) I got towels, towel bars, soap dishes....all the expensive little crap that you think you have to have!

Trixie - I am so happy for you! New clothes, in a SMALLER size, are sooooo much fun. And a night full of compliments to boot...YOU GO GIRL!!!

Hot Mama - You motivate us...we'll do our best to motivate you. That's what this is all about. No judgement calls....just support and friendship.

Mahtha - from everything I've read and studies 2 pounds a week is the healthiest way to lose it... and also have a better chance a keeping it off it you do it safely, which unfortunatly means slowly sometimes. I know it's frustrating, but chin up! It's gonna happen!

AZ - Good thing these computers don't teleport people yet. I'd have been beside you at the pool. I would have made you look really good cause I am super pasty white at this time of year. NEED SUN!!!

Cannon - Honey, everyone gets depressed. Vent, go ahead. Get it out. Then put a smile on your face. We're here for ya.

Den@ - Sounds like you are doing great. I loved the flowers - kinda "spingish". Glad the hubby is better and sounds like you are heading down the right path.

Well, I have got to go get the kiddo! I promise to check in later and see what everyone else is doing!

03-22-2004, 07:24 PM
How old is your baby? Weaning is HARD and painfull! Good luck! When I weaned my daughter weight melted off of me like butter! I have never been able to lsoe weight while nursing though (I know it is the opposite normally). i think for me nursing I was/am always hungry and it drains me physically so I have no energy for weightloss.

I don't know who the previous poster was talking about WATP but i am laughing right now!
I had never heard of it and saw it the other day and bought it and I LOVE IT!
With 3 kids under 5 (and 2 under 2 ) I have a hard time fitting in working out at home but 15 minutes at a time is sooo doable! I am trying to do the one mile 2x a day or the 2 mile once a day. I pair that with walking or running for 15-30 minutes outside (although it is 7 degrees here...back to the single digits:( )

Sorry anyone i missed but it will take me a while to hget that hang of the board:)

I had a decent day except that my children are driving me absolutely crazy!!!!! We went on vacation to Disney and got back last week and I have regained ZERO control over them! They are off schedules and it is catching up to all of us...so I don't feel bad about the chocolate cake I ate. I had about 1/2 a normal slice when normally feeling this stressed I would have had at least 3 pieces.
AND I left one bite on my plate just so I could know that I could do it:)
Cheesy I know!!!!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome:)

Do you all have challenges each week or weigh ins?

03-22-2004, 08:47 PM
I was getting discouraged - seems like I am doing the right things - exercise (walking and weights), better eating (about 1000 cal and mostly cutting out junk food) and the scale hasn't budged. I know this about myself - I really want to see quick results! LOL

Glad to see you joined us Jenn

congratulations to all the losers this week - my dh keeps telling me at least I didn't gain!

see you all tomorrow
I can't remember who said they had it but honey garlic chicken breast sounds yummy

03-22-2004, 10:16 PM
Good evening everyone...glad to see you all back.

I think most of you are feeling exactly the same way I was last week until I finally measured myself...(I don't have the TOM excuse...just your usual case of depression) I hope it all picks up for you really soon. Try to tell yourself that at least you are doing something and everyday that you do is another day you didn't allow yourself to gain.

I know about wanting to see results fast...I wanna wake up tomorrow skinny and with a boob lift!!!! Oh shoot I forgot to scan my pics...

I was soooooo busy at work all day I never did eat my oatmeal and had to chow down my lunch... the chicken wasn't so bad. It was not dripping in honey garlic. Just a brand with the flavour so I can add more calories but not too many  Tonight dinner was halbut and green beans.... congrats on getting more fish!!!!!

Well my neice just showed up to wish Shawn a happy b-day so I gotta go for now....

Hello, my name is Linda and I just joined this site today. I would love to join your Fathers Day Challenge. I started eating healthy on the 18th of Feb this year and have lost a total of 11.5 pounds. I follow the WW plan on my own, I do the points and I count calories, fat gms, and fiber. I journal on a daily basis. I have to, otherwise the food will sneak up on you. I mean every little bite. So please send me the information I need to get started on your Challenge, Linda

03-23-2004, 07:11 AM
I don't remember who was saying ONLY a pound but I will never forget being shown how much a pound actually is. Take a package of butter (the 4 sticks) and imagine it on your body. THAT IS A POUND!!!!!
I was in the grocery store and picked up a 3 pound bag of apples and realized I had lost 9 pounds so picked up 2 more and it was heavy! I couldn't believe I had been carrying that around! And to think i have 65 to go!

Hi Linda! Welcome! just joined this group a couple of days ago so i don't have much to offer as far as the challenge goes but everyone here is very supportive:)
I posted my intro a few post back. I am down 9 pounds, I am journaling, cutting back calories and walkig...I am also doing the Walking away the pounds videos.
I have a HUGE overall goal of about 65 more pounds by the end of the summer so i am in it for the long haul:)
Good luck!!!!

I know how it feels when the scale won't budge!!!!! Can I give you a couple of pointers? Do you do any weight training? I find weight training to be the single most important element in weightloss for me. By building lean muscle your metabolism JUMPS! Try getting some small handheld weights and trying a little.
Also, staying consistently at 1000 won't keep you losing weight:( I have been stuck in that rut and by ADDING calories I lost weight!
When you stay below 1200 your body thinks it is starving to death and actually holds on to the fat. I am sure you know this already but I am speaking form experience on this one. I never would have believed it was true until it happened to me:)
Sorry if I am offering unwanted advice but I wanted to share what woprked for me when the scale wouldn't budge. After having my daughter 5 years ago I went from a size 16 to a size 6 in about 4 months so i have tried and tested most anythig out there:) Now 2 more pregnancies later I am doing it all over again.

I am down another 2 this morning. Which makes 9 pounds so far since I started being serious! I am hoping to be down at least another 3 by the end of the month:)
I can tell my bra is fitting a little looser otherwise i really don't see a huge difference. I can not wait for my clothes to start being so big!

I keep looking at all the clothing I want when I am skinnya nd it is soooo motivating to me! :dizzy:

Morning Gals!

Jessica, I can make a few suggestions about the knees, but I don't know if they will help- I was given some exercises by a PT last summer when I had a really sore knee and they helped.

1. place a ball between your knees ( kids playground ball is about the perfect size-10" give or take) or a rolled up towel and place your back flat against the wall- your feet should be parallell to your shoulders, and out about 18". slide down the wall to the point that your thighs are almost parallel to the floor and slide back up ( don't drop the ball) Rep 20 times.

2. leg drops ( use the stairs or a stepper if you have one).. balance on one leg ( use a wall if you have to) and using the strength of that leg, drop the other on off the back of the step, and lift it back up

3. side leg lifts. Using one of those exercise bands, while standing.

These worked for me for strengthing the muscles around the knees. But be careful as you are still in that 'rubbery post natal' stage..take it SLOW and don't overdue. You can do more harm than good by overworking stretched tissues.. I've been there and have the surgery scar to prove it!!

03-23-2004, 10:06 AM
Oh, my....I had this huge post this morning and now it is gone. I wonder what happened to it

03-23-2004, 10:31 AM
Good morning everyone!!!!

I am at work and will be here for the next eleven hours. I have so much work to catch up on and I don't have any meetings today so hopefully it will be productive. Brought breakfast, lunch and dinner so I don't eat to late. Can't see myself exercising tonight but oh well. I got it in last night and will do it again tomorrow...and so on.

For the newbies!!!! We usually make our goals and then chose a weigh in day once a week. If you go back to either post 37 or 39 (I can never remember which one) then you will see how the award system works for every pound lost. It's a great motivator when you get to change your signature line and add a reward (do it even if's it's one pound or ten pounds)

I hope you all have a great day and congrats to the losers!!!!!

03-23-2004, 11:41 AM
Hi ladies, Sounds like your all still doing well and are very motivated. Because I get on this site so seldom, I can't respond to everyone, but it doesn't mean that I'm not thinking of you. Dale, thanks for missing me ;) and Canongirl, I'm so with you. My weight problem is due to my emotional and hormonal problems big time!!! I really have to work with that. It must be getting close to that TOM for me too as I had a really rough day yesterday. Or maybe it was just a bad day and today will be better.
Well, I lost 2.75 pounds this week, and had a not so good eating week. Last week I had a pretty good eating week and gained a pound, weird, but I'm happy. I have now lost 20 pounds since last August, slow and steady, but I will get there. I have to keep readjusting my goals, how annoying.
I'm still exercising daily, so at least I do that consistantly. I do 30-60 minutes per day. I am going ot start doing the WW program again, I've been off lately. Well last week I did 3 days and then fell off the wagon and I hope to stay on it this week!!
Keep it up ladies, we will get there :spin:

....that is if "OP" now means completely "OFF PROGRAM"! :^:

Well, I've read thru the posts and WOW you guys are stronger than ever. Lots of weight loss smilies, FABULOUS!!!! I really need to get back here and back on program.

I had so much fun in NYC and to put it mildly, my willpower was nowhere to be found. I think I actually forgot to pack it in my suitcase. The food and restaurants were amazing and the shopping incredible. I got a facial, and papaya pineapple body scrub, had high tea, went to some clubs (one had a mermaid in a beautiful gigantic fish tank!) and did I mention the shopping? It is crazy. I haven't been to NYC in a few years and forgot how indulgent it could make a person that has those tendencies already :o . Those that have been there know what I mean :dizzy:

I realized that I really need to be here with you guys to stay OP. I felt like
I tapped a little into that downward eating spiral and it would probably continue if I didn't log back in here today. I weighed myself and need to give back two smilies (sorry guys) for the week. The good news is that when I got to NY everyone noticed that I had been working out. They said I looked "longer" so to everyone here you may not notice it on the scale but there is a major difference when you work out! So, no vacations for a while and back on track for the remainder of the challenge.

Welcome to the newbies, LORI, Hot Mama, Lynnda Maree!!! Don't worry about starting late as long as you're here.

I will respond to everyone's posts a little more thoroughly once I'm back in the swing of things here! Didn't want you guys to have to read through five pages of my rambling. ;)

Good Morning All,

Feeling better already now that aunt flo is here. Going to focus hard today on the good things I can do for myself. Planning a salad for lunch and a good workout, which I haven't been doing.

Hula~ a facial and a pineapple body scrub.....Sounds fantastic!!

I was watching Discovery Health last night and saw a woman my age (37) have some gentle work done on her face. OH my goodness, she looked so good!! Makes me want to freshen up my tired self. Which is exactly what I need to do on a lighter scale that is. I need to get a new cute hair cut and do some pampering so I feel cute!
I'm rattling on......Have a good day.

:( Hey, I checked in here earlier and typed a post and I came back to check things out and couldn't find my post??? Wonder what caused that. Oh well.

Just got done doing the Mina Lessig "Strength and Grace" fitness tape. That kicks my butt everytime. I am getting to where I can do the whole tape without stopping at a few of the harder sections and watching while I pant in misery. That's progress. I really like this tape if anyone is looking for something different. It combines classic yoga postures with some pilates. I can feel the changes it is making in my stomach muscles (something I forgot I had).

I'd love to stay and chat, but I have a ton of things to do around the house.

Everyone have a good day tomorrow.

Disney? New York? New Master bath? Swimming pool?!!! I am feeling deprived!!! Me hear stuck in the Cold Canadian weather working eleven hours and eating rabbit food!!! Just kidding  All things considering I had a pretty good day. Gots lots of work done and don't feel so overwhelmed now. I didn't eat my dinner at work so I just finished and it's almost ten...bad trixi

Day 2 of no alcohal and 12 more to go.....I feel pretty good about it so far.

Hula I am so glad you back and hey for the amount of fun you had what's a couple of pounds now that your back...I missed you tons!!! Even a little worried that you didn't post on Monday. But I am a freak like that. It's good to know your raring to get back on track.

Boatingmommy sounds like you had a full weekend. I would love to be able to have my bathroom done but we are renting this house right now and it's just not worth it. Can I come over? That exercise you talked about sounds great. My mother is actually moving out of the apartment in the basement and we are going to turn it into a workout / recreation / storage apartment so I can do my exercise in the mornng and not have to kick anyone out of my bedroom cause I am too embarassed, so I will have more time to work out. I think I will look into that one. Going to one day actually try the pilates dvd I bought about three weeks ago. Still getting use to the 3 mile WATP

Canongal - glad your feeling better and please lay it on us anytime that's what were here for right? I know I have done my share of venting to you guys.

Hot_mamma - whats going to be your weigh in day so we can see all the awards your gonna get? The advise you gave eariler is great and keep it coming.

Scale is moving slowly for me as well and it can be very discouraging especially on workout days....I am trying to stay off of it or just before I get on I feel my smaller hips and then notice my tummy looks flatter and then whatever the scale says I don't care (unless of coarse it's a loss). I am just gonna keep on moving and eventually the scale will move with me. I tried to post my pics but I am computer dumb and didn't want our IT at work to see how awful I look (yet I am going to post them on the internet...hmmm) so I didn't ask him for help.

Have a wonderful night everyone.

Just checking in - it's been a crazy day. Tomorrow is weigh in. I kept the pounds off today...but who knows with that crazy scale - only good thoughts....it's just hours away.

I worked out today, but was too exhausted after weights to do my normal cardio - not sure what was going on there.

Trixi - I will be coming up to enjoy some of your lovely weather on April 13th. My headquarters is in Toronto and we are having our regular pow wow. Perhaps I can bring you Canadians some sunshine, ehy? ;-).

Well - more in the morning....Oh please scale, be nice!
hugs and purrs,

Hot mama - thanks for the advice. Right now I am doing Joyce Vedral tapes with 2, 3, and 5 lb weights - upper MWF and lower T, Th and then trying to walk for an hour 4 days a week. WA weather doesn't always cooperate though!

I really cut the calories and then the last few days I have been up at 1500 - my parents came for dinner today (stir fry) and I did well, but ate more than I wanted and am very full.

Do you stay at a particular calorie level or did you mean to vary the calorie level day to day?

The scale has been stuck at the same number for 10 days! I am one of those people who (even though official weigh is is Fri) weigh daily and hardly ever change from am to pm - I carry very little water weight.

I am sure open to advice and hope someone can help me feel motivated - I think that is what is the first to go when the scale doesn't move!

Welcome to the newbies

Trixie: I will have Friday be my weigh in day.

Deenie: I heard of a trick to dieting although i am sure it isn't too healthy in the long run and i have never tried it the theory sounds right. It takes 3 days for your body to go into starvation mode so eat 2 days at you low low level and then the third day eat about 2000 calories as sort of a reset button. Who knows, it sounds good but I try to make a change that I will be able to stick to.
Multiply your body weight by 15 and it is how many calories your body is using to maintain your weight. Since 3500 calories is a pound adjust your calorie intake accordingly:)

I am up a pound this morning. I have done so well that I know it isn't my eating or exercise causing it. I need to stop weighing myself every morning! I also have a cheap scale that goes by full pounds only and I need to invest in a decent one, maybe the body fat scale:)

Good job everyone!

Good morning!

Just wanted to pop in and say...I've lost nothing! I seem to be stuck for the last two weeks. I was getting discouraged, but it seems as though my skin is getting tighter! I think my body has taken a break for my skin to catch up!

Anyway, just wanted to say I feel your pain Deenie! Have a great day!

Good morning! Just got done doing the first 30 minutes of the Emergency Workout tape. Boy am I a sweaty mess! But I feel good about getting it done. Kiddo is still sleeping, for a few more minutes anyways.

My scale is stuck, too. I have been at 177. for the past week or so. I know how everyone else is feeling. It is so much more rewarding if the numbers are heading downward. But, I am not going to be discouraged and do something stupid to sabotage my work! I am SUPERWOMAN and I will overcome the Evil Food Demons, kick the butts of the Wicked Workout Woes, mangles the....well you guys get the point. I WILL NOT GIVE UP!!!! :strong:

Uh oh, the child has emerged at the bottom of the stairs...time to step into "MommyMode".

Be good to yourselves!

Well, this is getting frustrating. I have tried to add a few more carbs into my diet ( up from 40/day) and the scale is frozen. Is it due to TOM, the exercise program, the moon? So this morning, I took a GOOD look at myself. Now, I still have a long way to go, but I stood in front of the mirror this morning and tried to find something positive...Lets see, the roll under the bra line is smaller..well, that's good. Lets see how last years suit looks...Well, the waist is smaller, but now I have umbrella hips..gonna have to work on that. Lets look at my face..double chin is gone....I don't have to be careful about how I position head to make sure I don't have an extra one....Legs...well, they've always looked awful..no such thing as not touching at the top in THIS house... maybe a million leg lifts and a butcher knife.....got a needle and thread around here somewhere....

Lets get dressed..well, don't have to SSSSTTTRREEETTCCHHHH anymore to button my jeans...the belly shelf doesn't show as much, they fit much better now....

So guys, when you start to get discouraged, REALLY take a good look at yourself...you will see that it IS working, just not as quickly as most of us would like. Keep in mind it didn't take us just 16 weeks to put it on..it's gonna take some time to take it off and KEEP it off.

Okay,my words of wisdom for the day.. I"m going to have a glass of water now...!!!

You guys are the best! I've kept within my points, made sure to drink all my water, and done my WATP faithfully. I'm not seeing the scale move like I wished, but I noticed this morning my yoga pants fit like yoga pants again rather than leggings! WOO HOO!

I pulled out a pair of shorts I really like and have decided to use those as my motivation. My goal is to be able to wear those this summer AND FEEL GOOD IN THEM. I'll try them on every week or so and I think the changes in the way they fit will really keep me moving even if the scale isn't showing me what I want to see.

I'm having a house full of company tonight (long story) with lots of wine and appetizers. I've made my meal plan for the day, saved some points for munchies, and decided which appetizers (and how many) I can have tonight. Weeks ago this would have been really difficult for me - now I realize how little time it will take to backslide and I'M NOT GOING THERE.

Congrats to all for working toward personal goals and many thanks for the constant support and motivation from you all.
