I found a brand here which is low salt and coincidentally sugar free!!!...on the package tho it is listed as 0.7 carbs for 80 grams which is about 3-4 slices.......and I count it as such or round up if I have more! Froufy:) StarPrincess 02-09-2004, 04:48 PM Yikes! Then I bet none of us are eating 0 carb bacon. The producers don't have to put down percentages so they just say 0 carbs. I'll start counting 1 for every 4 slices. Froufy 02-09-2004, 07:11 PM ...and i was so jealous - thinking why couldn't I find 0 carb bacon!!! I bet most bacon does have a few carbs - and I think 1 carb for 4-5 medium slices should be about right?? (in my book two eggs (1.2) and my sf bacon (.8) equals a nice 2 carb breakfast!....which is still pretty good!). Froufy:) P.S. I will now confess that I have been known to eat raw bacon? Will something bad happen to me???? cathyxxx 02-09-2004, 08:28 PM Good Evening Ladies! I started Induction today. Also, I have just been going by the package, which says 0 carbs. I know that they don't have to put down percentages, but I double-checked on Fitday. I did not know that! duh! that's why I'm here cause I need the help! I went back and edited the carbs for Monday and posted them correctly (I think) Thanks! cathy StarPrincess 02-11-2004, 11:28 AM Hi Cathy! So not meaning to pick on you here.....do those shakes have sugar alcohols in them? I know you've seen me :censored: about them often enough. I'm just curious :D Breakfast: Coffee w/splenda - 2 (can't believe I can drink French Roast w/only 1 pkt! Thanks Froufy!) String cheese - 1 Lunch: Ham & turkey wrap - 7 Peanut butter - 2.5 Snack: Peanut butter (loving that stuff right now!) 2.5 Dinner: Steak - 0 Jicima Orange Salad - 2 Grilled zucchini w/basil and lemon - 2 Bad-ness: 2 glasses of wine - 4 Total: 23  cathyxxx 02-11-2004, 02:41 PM Hey Star! I know you're not picking on me girlie! I'm here cause I need all the help I can get. I want this to work, and it is so hard for me to even lose a pound, that I sure don't want to do anything wrong. I went to atkins.com and looked up the Advantage Shake under their products and tried to copy the ingredient list to post here, but it won't let me copy it. But I don't see any sugar alcohols. The main ingredients they list are "water, calcium caseinate, soybean oil, whey protein concentrate, cellulose gel" splenda & some other flavorings. But the shake was just ok. It left an after taste that I did not care for, so after induction I will make my own protein shakes with my 100% whey protein powder from GNC Pro Performance that has 4 grams of carbs in a scoop (if I remember right). It's just that a protein shake seems to work better for me in the mornings, rather than eggs and bacon. For some reason just protein in the mornings doesn't seem to settle well with me??? I thought about trying some string cheese for breakfast, but I'm trying to stay away from cheese as much as possible to see if that helps with the weightloss. Please keep checking my food log and keep me straight. I'll post today's later tonight. Thanks, cathy StarPrincess 02-11-2004, 02:50 PM Good to know! I used to do the shakes all the time for breakfast, but then I decided they were too expensive and just liquid for breakfast left me hungry too soon. I'm no an egg person, so I tend to stick with cheese around 7 in the morning and then sausage around 9 or 10. How weird am I? :dizzy: cathyxxx 02-11-2004, 02:54 PM not weird at all! that sounds good to me! yesterday and today I had deer sausage for a snack around 10:30 or so. I just can't cook or eat that stuff earlier then that. But I sure could eat a big ole piece of wheat toast at 8 am! matter of fact I could eat 2 of them1 :yikes: jdoggmartin 02-11-2004, 03:43 PM Breakfast: Coffee with cream and sweetner -- 3 Cheddar -- 1 Lunch: Salad -- 3 Spanish meat dish -- 5 (?) May try the "breakfast protein platter" from McDonald's tomorrow for breakfast (there is a big m downstairs in the mall of my office tower)..... I did take a "peek" at the scale this morning - looking good so far - but I don't want to say anything just yet! Froufy:) cathyxxx 02-11-2004, 09:57 PM Wednesday, 2/11 Atkins Induction Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs w/ crumbled bacon - 2 2 coffee w/4 splenda and 2 tbsp cream - 7 Snack: Homemade Deer Sausage Lunch: 1 cup salad & dressing - 3 grilled chicken caff free diet coke (gotta go buy some diet rite) Snack: sf jello Supper: homemade protein shake - 4 3 pkts splenda - 3 Water: 80 oz Exercise: none *sigh* but there is always tomorrow Total Carbs: 19 I know that my homemade protein shake is not really on induction, but we had to work a Valentine Banquet tonight at church for 100 teenagers. I thought there would at least be meat and salad for me, but the meat was "sloppy joe" and the salad was a "fruit salad" so there was nothing I could eat while I was there. By the time I got home at 9 tonight I was starving and just whipped up a quick protein shake. I'm still under 20 carbs for today, so hopefully it will be ok??? It was the best I could do. :-( ***I just corrected my carbs for my coffee. I keep forgetting that each cup has 1 carb. Theo'sgirl 02-11-2004, 10:39 PM Cathy I am sure that is fine...good job on not eating the sloppy Joe and fruit salad even though you were hungry!!! Delis don't typically show this, but if you get the pre-packaged stuff it typically says: ingredients: pork bacon, sugar, sodium nitrate which is why I have not eaten bacon yet--it has sugar and sodium nitrate unless you get the special health food store stuff. StarPrincess 02-12-2004, 09:51 AM Tried experimental sides yesterday night. mmmmmmmmmm yummy! Breakfast: Cheddar - .5 Jicima orange salad - 2 Sausage - 0 Lunch: Buffalo Wings - 1.5 More jicima orange salad - 1 Peanut butter - 2 Snack: Cream cheese pancakes - 3 Peanut butter - 2 Dinner: Baked salmon w/pesto - 2 Grilled zuchinni w/basil and lemon - 2 Snack: Peanut butter - 2 Total = 18 No more buying peanut butter!!! Ugh - not feeling good today! :( Breakfast: Extra sharp cheddar - .5 Sausage - 0 Lunch: Cheeseburger - 2 Jicama orange salad - 2 Dinner: Steak salad at Steak escape - 5 Evil popcorn attack - 10 Total = 19.5 cathyxxx 02-13-2004, 11:23 AM Hey Star - well I'm really guessing at the carbs on the coleslaw. I looked at fitday.com and 1 tablespoon of homemade coleslaw is almost 1 carb. I know I had at least 8 tablespoons of it. This is how I made it tho: 2 Cups of shredded cabbage - 4 5 pks splenda - 5 2 teaspoons celery salt 2 Tablespoons heavy cream - 2 1 Tablespoon water 1/2 cup mayo (so that totals 11 and I ate half, so that would be 6) StarPrincess 02-13-2004, 11:58 AM Gotcha. I make a super-simplified version of coleslaw that tastes pretty decent and is much lower in the carbs. 1 cup Shredded cabbage (or broccoli slaw mix) 1/3 cup Mayo 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar 1 or 2 pkt of splenda I'm guessing on the amounts there. I only add enough mayo to coat everything lightly. It's good and much lower in the carbs. Just an idea for you ;) cathyxxx 02-13-2004, 02:29 PM Sounds great Star! I will give it a try! Thanks, cathy Leenie 02-13-2004, 02:44 PM Mayo has carbs ? Hellmans doesn't, give that one a try. Also, I'm not sure if celery salt has carbs, you used 2 tsp ? wow is it really salty ? StarPrincess 02-13-2004, 02:46 PM my mayo doesn't have carbs either. Are you using 'light'? cathyxxx 02-13-2004, 03:23 PM ok duh - i was looking up the carbs for my Kraft Mayo in my little book (I don't have the jar here) and looked up light Kraft Mayo. I use real mayo - so that was 0 carbs. Leenie - yes I used 2 tsp celery salt - I didn't find it salty at all, but I loved the flavor. I've never tried celery salt before! yum! But it was still worth every carb! The best coleslaw I've ever made! I'm gonna go fix the carbs for yesterday (again)....eventually I'll get this straight. Thanks! cathyxxx 02-13-2004, 03:30 PM Friday, 12/13 Atkins Induction Breakfast: 2 coffee w/4 splenda & cream - 7 cheesecake - 4 Lunch: chicken coleslaw - 6 Snack: sf jello Supper: grilled fish salad & dressing - 3 Water: 72 oz Exercise: none today Total carbs: 20 Leenie 02-13-2004, 09:00 PM Cathy your doing wonderful !! I somehow missed your salmon question! I'm a big fan of baking and easy cleanup, so I tend to get a filet and cook it in a foil lined pan for easy clean up. Here's some of my favorites: Spread a thin layer of mayo over the top of the filet and then sprinkle with lemon pepper or seasoning salt. (mayo keeps the fish moist) Cover the top of the filet with a generous amount of pesto. (the oil will keep the fish moist). Spread a thin layer of mayo over the top and then cover with thin slices of lemon. For this one, use the foil to make a sealed packet. You can add capers after it's finished cooking if you like. I tend to bake everything at 400 degrees. Depending on the size of your filet, it takes 15-20 minutes to cook. The trick is to not overcook it - the moisture retaining ingredients help with this. Also, if you have a choice, wild and fresh is always better than farm raised or frozen. I won't use frozen at all. It tastes too 'fishy' to me. Hope that helps!
