Bad Fats...Good Fats....????
Is anyone else confused by the good fat vs bad fat guidlelines on SBD? My understanding......saturated fats (animal fats - the ones that solidify) are BAD. Polyunsaturated are ok? bad? Polyunsaturated fats are found in vegetagble oils like corn, safflower, soybean and most margarines and salad dressings. Polyunsaturated oils that have been altered - usually by high heat are known as trans fats. These appear as "partially hydronated" on food lables and are to be avoided like the plague. Polyunsaturated in nuts are GOOD. Monosaturated are GOOD (ie: canola oil, olive oil). Omega 3 Polyunsaturated are BEST of ALL. (fish oils, and flax seed)
Some vege oils are high in saturated oils (normally associated with animal fats.)..palm, palm kernal and coconut oils. BAD
Agatston refers to "I Can't Believe it's not Butter" appearing to endorse it, yet it has 4.5 g polyunsturated fat vs somehthing like Blue Bonnet that has 3 g. What is the recommended choice? Margarine? Butter? Any particular brand?
Anyone have any simple do and don't rules on fat they follow?
