100 lb. Club - Weekly Chatter for the week starting 2/2

02-02-2004, 09:22 PM
Well, it's 7:21 and I must say I'm surprised to be starting this thread... :dizzy:

How did everyone make it through the SB? How was SURVIVOR? It's too early for me to make any brash decisions, but let's just say....

RUPERT AND RUDY TO THE TOP!!!!!!! :D   :smug: :D

02-02-2004, 09:52 PM
Survivor was a bit interesting. I'm trying to figure what's up w/ Richard Hatch ... besides the parading around naked routine ... his strategy is to sit back and do nothing?!?!

Also, I'm disappointed that w/ the team that went to tribal council, the non-winners appear to be intent on ditching the winners first.

Although Apryl, I have to agree, I'm glad to see Rudy and Rupert make the alliance!!

02-02-2004, 11:19 PM
Ok, so I changed this to a weekly thread. I see what some folks mean about it being hard to catch up!! I TOTALLY missed out on April's 4.0!! Now that's NEWS!!! Congrats Missy!!!!! :D SO we'll try this for a while. I think what we need to realize is it's ok to just stop in and say Hi, it's cold and I'm alive.

I had a good weekend. Jacob was an angel at the dentist. We went and saw Big Fish today. It was good. More like a rental.

I think survivor is cool because I already know everyone. I don't know who I am for. All I know is that I must look like Alicia!!! Do you think it would be Ok to make her my avitar. Would anyone be confused in June?? I mean look at this picture!! This girl is buff. Ok, so she is a personal trainer. But that girl blows me away!!

Went to the Y today. Can't decide. I know I should join. But.
1. 13 minutes away, that wastes 26 min just in travel.
2. I don't get home until 4:45 and then if I go to the Y, it'll be after 6:00 before we get home. Dinner is supposed to be at 6:00. I don't see Jacob making it until 7:00. That also takes up any fun time with Jacob and I barely get to see him as it is. Bath is at 7:30, bed at 8:30.
3. 48.00 a month.

1. I really think that lifing weights is for me and I already pay 29.00 a month for Curves which this would be replacing. HELP!!!!!

02-02-2004, 11:39 PM
Yes to the weekly chats!! Plus I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name "Weekly Chatter" it's so cute. :D

Thanks Sandi :-) Hmmm..... not sure what to do about the gyms. Call me crazy, but I'm leaning towards Curves because you'll get to see Jacob more and it's cheaper. Just an outsiders point of view. :D

Yep, I got the old 4.0 last week for 2nd quarter and 2nd semester. :D Go Apryl! Go Apryl! Go Apryl! *happy dance*

Goodnight everyone!!!!!!!!

02-03-2004, 12:29 AM
I missed the 4.0, too. All right, Apryl! Great job! I'm just so proud of you. I think we should all go to your graduation. Make sure you can get enough tickets! :)

Glad Jacob was good at the dentist, Sandi--it's always touch-and-go with the little ones. My kids went to a great pediatric dentist who looked like a Grandma, and acted like one, too. They loved her. She always took their photo in the dentist chair every six months--you could see how tall they were getting just by seeing those photos.

I'm thinking Curves for the same reason Apryl gives. However, I am a Y member and love it. They're starting a new women's only weight training class at my Y and I signed up. As I get off the rest of the weight (hopefully virgin pounds will start coming off soon!), I want to see some actual muscle definition in my arms and legs, and I need a pro to teach me how to do that. I already do weight machines twice a week, but I know I need more.

My daughter is now on her ship, a destroyer in Norfolk, VA. She's going "underway" (it's a Navy term she keeps using that must mean they're taking the ship out for a spin) next week for five days. She spent Saturday in the engine room, and the chief engineer was so impressed with her hard work that he said she should think about a career as a naval engineer. No way, says she! She spent hours trying to get the grease out from under her fingernails and she doesn't want to be doing that every day. My daughter is such a girly girl!

02-03-2004, 01:15 AM
Hi all...it's so cold and I'm sick of the snow. They're predicting more for later this week. Grrr. Now that I'm all excited about starting a walk/jog training schedule. I'm not in a hurry to get that started though, the race I want to run isn't til August. I'll be doing the same distance in May, but will be walking most, jogging some.

I am going to do some outside activity tomorrow. I'm planning to walk to and from my WW meeting. I'll bundle up enough to stay warm I feel so much better when I do that.

Apryl--way to go on the 4.0!!! You Rock!

Sandi--I don't know what I'd do in your shoes. But I agree that I'd like to look like Alica...think I can manage that by my class reunion in June? Not if I eat a white chocolate reeses pb cup, package of peanut m&ms and a cherry mash everyday between now and then. I went to get fresco tacos at Taco Bell and ended up at the gas station...oops.

Have a great week all!

02-03-2004, 08:37 AM
Sandi, I'd go with curves if I was you. It's closer, cheaper, you'll get to spend more time with Jacob, it won't throw your whole routine out of whack, and it's still a great workout. It seems to me that the cons outway the pros so now you have to ask yourself which one you'd rather do, and see if enduring the cons will be worth it to make yourself happy.

02-03-2004, 08:47 AM
Hi everyone! April I missed your 4.0 too! Way to go, girl!!!

Daners.. I hear ya about the snow we were outside at 5am doing the 5 MORE inches we got last night. If it's not snowing it's sub zero temps. There's no winning.

Sandi - Personally I love the Y. Plus they give you a personal training program - Free! that really helps. Is the $48 for the family or just yourself? Here, in Green Bay I think it's $50 for the family.

Haven't been too good on the diet... this needs to improve. I may not make Valentine's goal... I don't really care how slow I lose it.... just as long as I lose it! Ya know?

02-03-2004, 12:00 PM
Hi everyone,

Sandi, I know you are making a hard decision. I have two little ones. Some folks need to go out to a gym and if that is you, keep on going. I have found that I can use free weights in my basement and also do exercise videos, treadmill and elliptical while my kids play in the playroom attached to where I exercise. They have been awesome in learning the routine and are great about not interrupting. My little one even has mastered tae-bo moves and uses them all over the place. She came out of the toy room with a fisher price flashlight in her hand going " 1 - 2 - 3 - 4" while slowly lifting the weight aka flashlight over her head. Tooooooo cute! Models a way of life they will need to participate in too. On the days that I work, I get up really early or use my lunch hour so I am not away from the kids for too long. I know it is hard, but you will come up with the right decision for you and your family. The hour or so you take away from your time with you son will be the years that you add to your life to spend with him. The awesome thing is that you are really motivated and as a result will keep up with taking care of yourself. Look out survivor girls, here comes Sandi!

I know, winter must end soon so we can all get back to living again. The cold weather and snow just make you want to bunk down in the basement in front of the fire and tv with comforting warm foods. I am struggling right now with food but continueing with exercise. I am not making horrible choices, I just want warm things and eat too much. But, maybe there is something to hibernating. The bears do it! Seems to me they eat a great deal before going in to a deep sleep in the deep freeze. Yeah, I will try and justify anything.

Hope this finds you all well. Have a great week.

02-03-2004, 12:21 PM
Jenaya....why is it that we can justify anything. And we are so good at too!!! LOL I am in the need for warm things too...so I started making my very own hot cocoa...and it is sugar free too.....so...easy. I will post the link soon.

Sandi...I don't know....I think Iwould tend to go with the Y....because the Y has a great child care site at mine....and Jacob can participate in some of the things offered like swimming and stuff. I made a promise to myself, that once I get into a great work out program at home (that is what february is for) I wil branch out to our local Y. Good luck deciding. When does your Curves membership end?

Dana....slow and steady always wins the race...that is my motto!!! But it is always nice to keep making those minigoals to get focused in the big goal!!!!!

Apryl....I like the name too....but I am still getting used to the weekly thread ;) Maybe I can make this thing work...hehehehhehehhehe

Sheila, how long has your girly girl daughter been in the Navy???

I will check back later....have a great day!!!!!

02-03-2004, 12:39 PM
Hey ladies! How is everyones day going? I am making homemade chili today and it smells soooo gooood! I have never made it myself before but there is a first time for everything. Its a little high in carbs for what i usually eat but they are good carbs, no sugar and I used turkey burger too. Now my problem is to stop myself from tasting it everytime i stir it....

02-03-2004, 02:49 PM
Julie - Isn't Chili the absolute best?! It has everything you need to keep you satisfied - warm, comfort type food appeal, lots of low cal, low fat veggies, beans and lean meat for protein, and spices to make it all so tasty -- mmmmm, good stick to yer ribs meal!

Whatever decision you make Sandi, Curves or the Y, the fact that it's a decision about something healthy and helpful in your goal is the greatest thing! Keep it up and you'll soon be deciding between new outfits (in lower sizes!!) :)

I have to admit I'm bad and have been going to the Survivor spoiler boards (they've been right on the last few series, having the benefit of secret sources). I can't say I'm happy about the predicted final two :(, but I can't wait to see it all played out. My fruit dip was a great hit at the Survivor party, but I was annoyed when some of the guys were dipping cookie bars into the dip instead of fruit!

More snow today...it's so depressing, especially when you consider that the worst is yet to come. February always seems to be the coldest month of the year here. When I was a kid we'd always go to Florida for March break, but one wonderful year we went for my birthday...I'll never forget waking up on Valentine's Day to glorious weather and a dip in the ocean...sigh....

When I read about your "girly girl" Sheila it made me think of poor Goldie Hawn in Private Benjamin :)

Well, best get back to work. I spent this lunch hour speed walking through the underground shopping concourse system of downtown Toronto (sure, I get a few stares as I fly by in my suit and running shoes, but I just give'm a big smile and go on my merry way). I forgot to bring my perfect Weight Watchers point lunch, but on my journey picked up a very satisfactory salad with grilled chicken and fat-free yogurt dressing from a health food take-out. Actually, it was sooo good I still felt hungry, so I came here to write instead of eat (more). It worked :D

02-03-2004, 06:46 PM
Sandi, I'm a huge fan of the Y, because it is great for the whole family and for the same price, I'm able to take the kids swimming there all summer, but it's all about what works for you. If you're really having doubts about the Y and about it taking time away from Jacob, then you probably won't be as diligent about going as you will be at Curves. Making these lifestyle changes is hard enough, but if it throws your whole schedule off track then it will be almost impossible to stick with it.

Apryl, I don't think I ever did get to tell you how proud I am of you! Keep up the great work girl!

Jill, I'm so proud of you for not letting the fact that you didn't have your lunch with you throw you off track! You are definitely back on track and staying strong!

Julie, the chili does sound wonderful! I'd love to see your recipe. There are so many different ways to make chili and I love to try new ways.

Jenaya, your little one sounds so cute! You should be really proud that you're already teaching her about a healthy life style and she's learning so much by your example. We can talk all we want, but what they really end up learning from is our actions.

I hope everyone is having a great week. It's cold here too, with another storm due to move in tonight. The kids are hoping for a second snow day this week. As if one wasn't enough!!

02-03-2004, 07:18 PM
Mothergoose the chili came out superb. It was really simple too:

2lbs Turkey burger
2 cans dark red kidney beans
2 cans garlic tomato paste
2 cans crushed tomatos
1 whole green pepper
2 onions
6 cloves garlic
1tsp basil
2 tsp chili powder
1tsp oregano
3-4 cups V-8

I browned the turkey and garlic then added the onion and pepper in the frying pan. Cooked those until tender. Add all other ingredients in the crock pot and simmered all day. Spinkled with some shredded cheese and a dolop of sour cream.

02-03-2004, 11:46 PM
Yummy Julie....i will have to try this!!!!!!

02-03-2004, 11:55 PM
Me too! Sounds delicious... I had some sort of Southwestern Chowder for dinner at our local health food bistro. (I love it there. If, *ahem* WHEN you come to my graduation, we're going there. It is so tasty and healthy.) It was tomatoes, corn, a few potato chunks, multi-peppers, and some other stuff, all pretty spicy. It was excellent.

terrific pig
02-04-2004, 12:21 AM
That chili recipe sounds great, Julie! Thanks for sharing. Well, I went to my second ceramics class tonight and it was much better than the first one. When I came home from that one, I was sooo discouraged- felt like I had three left thumbs. My sweetie's comic strip is running on a test basis in our local paper, the Providence Journal. If enough people email or call the paper to say they like the strip, it will be a regular feature.

Good nighe, everybody

02-04-2004, 12:42 AM
Sandi ... I hear you on wanting to spend time w/ Jacob. It's really a tough decision.

With my dh working out of state, I barely have time to breath outside of work and I can't accomplish much personal stuff during lunch, cuz I take a shorter break now in order to get my time in. Basically, my day goes like this up at 6:15, get self and two kids ready to go out. Pack lunches and backpacks. Leave at 8. Drop oldest off at his school at 8:10 (and it's only a mile a way ... but he's only in first grade, there's main streets w/out crossing guards, so he can't walk alone and I don't have time to walk there and back!) Then my second is due at school at 8:30. Sometimes we get there early and wait for it to open. But she's only in pre-k ... I have to go in w/ her, help her hang up her coat, etc. Then it's off to work and if I'm LUCKY I'm there before 9. I work until about 4:50 and then rush to pick up my dd at her sitter by 5:30 and then go get my son at his afterschool program. Home to heat up dinner (I cook on weekends and mainly microwave during the week) ... homework, kids' showers (not every night in winter --- we all have dry skin), phone call to Dad, stories bed, then I do a bit of work to make up for any time I didn't get in during the day. When I'm sure the kids are asleep, I try to do an exercise video then some Internet time and bed for me. It's tough and I can't join a gym or anything cuz it would mean even MORE time away from my kiddos.

I can't wait for warmer weather ... a least then, maybe we'll be able to bypass nightly TV and spend some time outdoors or something!!

BUT ... I have to say it was warmer today, warm enough for FROST on the car this morning and rain tonight. Tomorrow it might hit 40 degrees!!! YAY!!!

02-04-2004, 01:07 AM
Steph.....Just reading your post makes me tired and that is ONLY reading one day of it!!! My goodness....how long has your DH worked out of state? When do you guys het to see him? Is it really hard on your kids, and of course you? My DH is an accountant, and this is his busiest time of year (taxes).....and after rading your post, I will not complain anymore. My kiddos don't get to see him during the week, since he leaves before they wake up and come home when they are sleeping. But, at least I know it will end and things will get back to "normal" after April 15th. Man, I give you so much credit. You sound very organized!!!!

02-04-2004, 08:52 AM
I have such amazing memories of walking through the underground in downtown Toronto!! It's amazing how far you can go! - they are like lost tunnels. I had a boyfriend that we used to meet in the "underground" once a week at "lunch" (wow.. those are great memories!!!) I would walk from union station to the Eaton Center underground - (I used to work at the buying office of Eatons - when there was one!!)

There are also all kinds of tunnels.. dark tunnels around UofT.

Where do you work downtown? I really miss Toronto. Home sweet Home!

02-04-2004, 11:04 AM
I forgot to post what a serving is and how many calories i figured that chili to be! I logged all the ingrediants into fit day and took the total and divided it by 8 so the whole recipe makes 8-2 cup servings.

Calories-382, Fat-9, Carbs-52 but some of it is fiber and good carbs :) , Protein-27.

02-04-2004, 11:12 AM
Wow, thanks Julie! It sounds wonderful!

02-04-2004, 11:33 AM
hello all, i'm very behind. but glad it's a weekly thread. i want to make that chili, too.

i'm really sick. i've been sick since last wednesday. no voice since sunday. (this drives me nuts. i talk a LOT. natures way of telling me to slow down?) i haven't been on the computer much, just posting diary entries and then heading back to bed.

as far as weightloss is concerned, i'm not working on it at all. i can't workout, lest i get sicker, and my eating has been sporadic at best. but junk food, when i do eat. so who knows?

02-04-2004, 02:52 PM
Holly, I hope you're feeling better soon...being sick is miserable.

MotherGoose--I knew you were getting close to your goal, but somehow missed how close you are! What an inspiration!

Okay, so I've come to accept the fact that it's going to be cold and snowy until at least my birthday. Well, that's not exactly true, since my b-day is in August, but that's sure what it feels like around here. I even had to buy more long underwear this week because the temps have been single digits for nearly 2 weeks. This morning it was actually 11.

Things are going well food wise this week. I peaked at my scale this morning, and was down 3 from my last weigh-in. I'm using that as motivation to do well the rest of the week, instead of a pass to eat what I want the rest of the week, which is all too often the case.

I have become addicted to Taco Bell! The crunchy tacos fresco style are only 3 points. I love them!

02-04-2004, 05:22 PM
I'm definitely going to try that chili too, it sounds wonderful and anything I can eat two whole cups of, be full and end up under 400 calories 9 grams of fat is for me! Besides the fact that I absolutely love chili anyway! :dancer:

Holly, sorry to hear you've been feeling yucky, I wasn't doing so well week before last so I can certainly sympathize with not being on plan.

I did my first work out at Curves on Monday and my second today. They are absolutely wonderful, I love them! I feel wonderful and they complimented me on how strong and limber I am! :strong: :cloud9:

I'm horrible with names, but the woman who was debating between Curves and the Y, I would definitely recommend Curves, just because I love it so much, but I know there is a lot more involved in the decision and it will be a hard one. I'm lucky because my mom can watch my boys for me when I'm at work and working out (I'm single so I don't have a hubby for that) and I know they're in good hands. I hope your decision goes well.

Hope y'all are doing well this week and staying on plan, I've not been eating incredibly well, but I'm going to get better, started today good and going to stay that way! :cheer:

02-04-2004, 05:40 PM
holly i really hope you get to feeling better. cezanne congrats on the curves workout. i use to go to one about 2 years ago and of course i quit that diet experience and so i let my membership expire. i really enjoyed it at the time and lost weight and inches. i now belong to a gym and enjoy it just as much.

02-04-2004, 07:35 PM
Ooooh Holly! Hope you're doing better. Get well soon!!!!!

I have another idea. This thing is going to get SO long in a week. Why don't we make them on Mondays and Thursdays or something. I'd be willing to remember/do that if no one else wants to. :D

02-04-2004, 09:56 PM
My beautiful baby is rolling around on a blanket on the floor, showing off his new tongued rasberries. He just added the tongue a couple of weeks ago.

Elijah is also proud to announce the appearance of his first tooth.

It's a good day to be a mommy!

02-04-2004, 11:03 PM
Got any new pics to show off Angi? Oh...of the baby that is ;)

02-05-2004, 12:46 AM
Okay, so I've come to accept the fact that it's going to be cold and snowy until at least my birthday. Well, that's not exactly true, since my b-day is in August, :dizzy:

Holly --- be better!!

Angie -- congratulation to Elijah on his first tooth :D I'd love to see a picture of your precious boy if you don't mine posting one. You may not remember me ... I haven't been here for a while, but I also have a "baby" who we adopted from Korea, he turned 7  in December.

Jill ... I remember those tunnels in Toronto. In the 1980s, my husband worked for the Canadian Consulate here in Boston as a "film librarian" and I accompanied him to an animationfestival there. Also, the company I used to work for had an office in Toronto. I don't remember the exact address, but we would get off the subway and go directly into the office w/out ever stepping outdoors.

Gina -- you asked about my husband working out of state ... he was laid off in November of 2002. Work in the Boston area is difficult to find. He took a contract in Hartford CT last year developing and delivering training about the healthcare privacy laws (HIPAA). He was there from the beginning of Feb to the end of May of 2003. And during that time, I managed to gain back all the weight I lost in January of that year plus a bit more!!! He was home with the kids after that ... and he wasn't feeling well, only he didn't realize he was really sickat the time (long story) ... but I'm happy to report his health is good now. He started Jan 5 on a new contract, working as a "data architect" for a company in Groton Conn. Usually he leaves on Monday morning, comes home on Wednesday night, goes back Thursday morning and returns Friday night. Most likely this will last through June. If they want to extend his contract, he plans to ask if he can do some work from home or perhaps from the Cambridge office.

It's difficult, but it's what we gotta do for now. The kids have adjusted and I'm doing a decent job of not stress eating. My house isn't all too neat ... but thanks to a weekly house-cleaner, it's reasonably clean, but it's tough keeping up w/ the clutter -- I'm just not home enough to deal with it!

02-05-2004, 01:06 AM
Well I am kinda new to this site and this is my first time posting in weekly chatt so here it goes.............

02-05-2004, 01:11 AM
This one was taken this morning. We just lowered the crib, but it looks like we're going to have to do it again soon . . .he is getting ready to pull up!

terrific pig
02-05-2004, 08:21 AM
Angi, he is a doll! What a lovely age - everyday is a new adventure. I sure miss those days, now that my 'baby' is 16. Best of everyting to you and your family.

02-05-2004, 09:33 AM
Angi-Elijah is adorable! Any day is a good day to be a Mommy!

Apryl -I think that your idea is a good one!

Holly-I hope you are feeling better and make sure you get your fluids in. Maybe some warm tea?

Step-Even when my hubbys home he might as well not be! I never seem to be able to get my house spotless so i dont even try anymore. I keep the dishes washed and things picked up but i dont try for spotless anymore.

I hope everyone else is doing well and staying warm! I walked my son to school this morning and i was FREEZING by the time i got home. I thought me ears would fall off! Yesterday when i went to pick the littlest one up from preschool I JOGGED for about 1/4 of a mile and it was downhill but i still JOGGED! And i felt like such and idiot!

02-05-2004, 09:41 AM
Way to go Julie!!! That's so exciting! I know what you mean about the cold!

Angi-He's adorable! It's amazing how quickly they get to doing things like that.

Well, for the first time in my grown up life--all 6 years of it. I have a snow day. They closed all the schools in town. Usually the city school doesn't close, in fact the super. was on tv a couple of weeks ago saying "we will always be open"...the church office isn't open if city school closes. Darn! At least I have some work that I brought home yesterday to work on. I think I'm going back to bed first.

I did the New York City Ballet workout last night, it's awesome! The warm up is a little tricky in some parts, but other than that. I love it! I'm a little sore today, but that just shows it actually worked me!

Have a good day!

02-05-2004, 09:56 AM
Julie, but didn't it feel so great to run!!!! My son likes me to race with him every day on the way into school, and I know I look dumb, but it's fun, he loves it, and darn it I'm just so thrilled to be able to run that I don't care! Enjoy it!

Angi, he just gets cuter and cuter!

Step, my DH is a truck driver. He leaves for 8-10 days at a time and leaves me home with all 6 kids. Well, only 5 of the kids still live at home, but 18 year olds have constant drama surrounding them, so she's over every day with her latest crisis. Believe it or not, it does get easier. Never easy, but definitely easier. Hang in there and just remember that we're here to help you through it. Post often so we know how you're doing. I agree with kimmber, you have to make time for yourself. It's not easy to find the time for yourself, but you just have to do it to keep yourself sane and healthy.

Daners, enjoy your snow day!

On my way to the Y, will check in soon. Have a great day everyone!!

02-05-2004, 10:43 AM
Good Morning all!!!

So I ended up joining the Y. It's $48.00 for the whole family and then things like swiiming for Jacob go down from $54.00 to $18.00. It's really what I wanted to do and it's time I quit making excuses!! I had my orienation last night where they show you all the machines and I am very excited. I also signed Jacob up for swimming lessons which will be every Tues/Thurs so hopefully that commitment will force me to go to the Y anyway and I'll workout before his class. This is really going to make our lives much more busy and crazed, but I hope this will help us become a more "active" family. Once I really get going, I think I may hire a trainer and see her once a month to tweak my weight lifting program. Tonight I am going to pull out my step and do some step-aerobics.

Steve is on vacation this week and they are coming to work today to have lunch with me. I am so excited!! :D

Sheila - How cool that your daughter is in the Navy. I bet you miss her. My brother and I have always lived within 15 min from my mom. And Steve's family is the same way. everyone lives within 15 min. Jacob can never move away. I just didn't grow up that way.

Daners - I think your race goal is very exciting. It's always fun to work towards something like that. Don't you just LOVE snow days!!! :D

Jill - Fruit Dip - Recipe please???

Terrific Pig - SO glad to see that you are enjoying your ceramics class. I love crafts!! I am cross-stitching bibs for a baby shower on the 22nd and when I finish those I am going to start dabbling in beading. ANy news on your sweetie's strip??

Step - all I can say is OMG!!!! That is one busy schedule!! Wow, you are amazing. I think I'd be planting my butt on the couch and passing out.

Holly - Sorry you are not feeling well. Get some rest. Hope you feel better soon.

Angi - Congrats on the new tooth!!! And his new picture is adorable!! Do you cross-stitch? I cross-stitched the cutest thing for Jacob's first haircut (yes, I just finished it)

Kimmber - welcome!! You did great!!

Morning all!

Step: I hate HIPAA - I work in medical insurance and personally I think it's overkill. There are some days I wish my dh worked out of state  funny how the grass is always greener, eh?

Holly: how are you doing? feeling better?

Dana: yummy Taco Bell... so what kind do you get exactly? meat hardshell fricso style?

Angi: What a cutie pie! I remember when Sara first stood up in the crib.. she giggled. It's so wonderful when they learn new things - they are just so proud of themselves!

I'm off to a candle lite party tonight - first time to one of these. I've also decided to become a longaberger consultant. Doing it for selfish reasons.. I want the discount! So if any of you want any I will give you my discount!

Have a great day.. and stay warm!

02-05-2004, 11:05 AM
Dana - I might have to take you up on that!!! I want to buy my Dad the 2 pie server wrought iron piece that is being discontinued this month. Let's PM!!!!

02-05-2004, 11:10 AM

02-05-2004, 11:41 AM
hey guys. a quick post before work (i can't really call in sick anymore).

i was feeling better last night, and i ate a ton of junk. some peanut butter and honey on bread, some stale cips... what was i thinking? and this morning, my throat hurts again and i am coughing up the yucky stuff. but i just had a nice toasted bagel and some juice. i've been drinking tea at work, too. i know i'm on the "getting better" side of things, it's just... i've been sick for a FULL WEEK today! that's a long time for me, i don't usually have such a problem.

david's made me promise that i won't workout until the first day AFTER i feel completely better. so that will be like, monday. i think.

it's funny, i now have no idea where i'm at for the month, numbers wise. i could be up cuz of junk. i could be down cuz of sickness. heh. so i'll just do my best until i weigh at the end of the month (the 25th).

quick hello to everyone -- sandi, the Y is a fun place, angi, i still can't believe you have your baby, i'm so happy for you, everyone in the snow -- i can't even imagine, i'm freezing cold right now and i live in CA... well, at least i live near SF which IS cold, not like goddess jessica's southern pocket of warmth!

hasta everyone,

Hello to everyone hope you all are having a wonderful day. It is still pretty cold out today and sleeting here. That surely makes for a lazy day :tired: and i havent worked out since monday I just cant seem to get it together all this cold weather makes me feel so drained. But I got in some house cleaning today and planning to get my workout in this evening after the Hubby gets in to take the kids to a ball game at school, being alone seems to make it eaiser to concertrate on what I need to get done.

Oh yes I have a question:

Looking for info on eating plans some of you list Thin Within, But I cant seem to get on the website. What would some of you recommend, so I can do some research on this?

02-05-2004, 02:05 PM
Geez this week is dragging...funny how when you're eating everything in sight the days fly by and next thing you know the week's up and it's time to weigh in at Weight Watchers and you dread seeing the numbers. Now that I'm back to "behaving" the week is crawling and I count every minute to my next meal. If I can make it through today and tomorrow though I should have have some good results on the scale Saturday morning, to motivate me so I'll try to keep that in mind. I also have to remember that as time goes by "behaving" becomes normal routine and gets easier :)

Angi, he's absolutely adorable (hmmm, haven't I already said that several times? ;)) At that age it really does bring home how fast they grow when the changes are so noticeable after only a couple of months. He's looks to be a very contented li'l fella for sure.

I really have to hand it to all you moms (stay-at-home and otherwise), especially those with young children. I don't know where you find the time and energy to fit into one day all the things you must do and then manage to eke out some time for yourselves. As difficult as it may be to do, you HAVE to find that "me" time for the sake of your mental sanity, emotional health and physical betterment. It all seems so long ago for me (my baby's 25), but when I think back to how I worked, did housework and laundry, got her to skating and gymnastic lessons, helped with homework, went to parent-teacher interviews, arranged for creative playtime, etc. etc. I have to marvel at it all, and I only had ONE! We truly are a breed of superwomen!!

Sandi, the fruit dip recipe is a couple of pages back, but because it's so simple I'll repeat it: Take one box of coconut-cream pie filling (not instant, the kind you'd normally cook) and pour it into a large carton of fat-free sour cream. Mix well and refrigerate overnight. It's to die for.

Glad you're on the mend Holly - probably the combination of being sick and not eating as wisely as you normally would've will cancel each other out and there won't be any damage. Focus on getting your strength back!

I'm going to make a pot of that chili on Saturday. I'm going to have a houseful and I think it'll pass the "we don't have to eat diet food just because you are, do we?" test. I love not telling people they're eating low cal, low fat and just plain healthy food until after the fact! I WILL get in dessert for them though, I'll just get something I don't care for (now THAT should take up a good part of the day) :)

I feel like such a wimp for complaining about the bitter cold and snow here, especially now that a few of you know I work downtown and can avoid it during the work day. I go from my house right into my garage, drive to the GO Train, park underground and take the stairs to the covered platform, sit in a heated train right to the station, and then walk through the underground tunnel right to the elevators of my office. I don't even need at coat! Well, if there's heavy snow I DO have to shovel out my driveway first, so I would be exposed...but I really shouldn't complain, other than I can't do my nightly 2km walks and 5km walks on the weekend because I can't stand the wind and cold and the treadmill is such a poor substitute (excuses, excuses, right?) I can't wait for spring when I can walk trails in fresh air with a light sweater to guard from the cool breeze, sigh....

Well, time to eat my delicious whole wheat pita filled with tuna, alfalpha sprouts, cucumbers, tomatoes and fat-free dressing and have my dessert of canteloupe and seedless grapes. Mmmmmmm.

Ths is why I dislike the weekly thread. It's 3 pages & I don't have time to read everything & respond to it all. :( (But since my boss is doing a training, I will tryyyyyy)

02-05-2004, 02:22 PM
I have another idea. This thing is going to get SO long in a week. Why don't we make them on Mondays and Thursdays or something. I'd be willing to remember/do that if no one else wants to. :D

I think I love you!!!!!

02-05-2004, 02:28 PM
I was wondering where that pretty face was.....she is hiding at work!

02-05-2004, 03:34 PM
Sandi: Good for you on joining the Y. Jacob will have so much fun there, and you & Steve will too.

Sheila: Your girly-girl needs a nailbrush!! I'd be lost w/o mine! My mom has the Military Ball this weekend w/my stepdad, I've been slated as her makeup & manicure girl. :)

Apryl: Congrats on the 4.0, girlie!!! I think the only 4.0 I got in high school was my blood-alcohol level. j/k *rim shot* Also, careful whatcha wish for w/your graduation invitation, you do realize I'm only an 8 hour drive away? ROAD TRIIIIIPPPPP!!!!!!!

Jenaya: I like what you said about bears hibernating. My friend's little girl & I were hanging out, and a commercial for Brother Bear came on & the little bear said: "Coda! Co-duh!" So I giggled that I was like a bear in the mornings, and said, "Maybe you should call me Auntie Coda instead of Auntie Aimee." Darned if she isn't still calling me Auntie Coda 3 months later! Kids!

Step: I will never again complain about not having enough time to do anything. I got tired just reading about your day, too!

Mothergoose: You still don't look old enough to have an 18 y/o. Guess I'll have to take your word for it!

Daners: Can you link me up for the NYC Ballet tape? That sounds interesting.

Holly: Hope you're feeling better soon! Being sick sucks, I am finally feeling better from all that crap in December. Guh. *send chicken soup vibes your way*

Angi: How could one little man BE so cute? :)

Juliebaby: Yes, yes, here I am. ;) By the time I get home & done w/the gym, I barely lurk, let alone post. Your chili sounds yummy & good for you on the jogging! The other thing is, my firewall at home logs me out of 3FC just as I hit 'submit' to post something good, so I pretty much gave up. I will have to have more patience, I miss you gals (&guys)!

Everyone else:

As for me, I've been doing great, hitting the gym almost every night, if not then exercising at home. They fired my trainer!!! He cancelled his first 3 appts w/me, I guess it caught up w/him. I heard the head trainer talking about it last week--he cancels appts ALL THE TIME, they are noticing more now cause it's the beginning of the year, ppl are doing their New Years Resolutions thing. He was also putting down hours that he was not there for. Also, when he did my initial consultation, he didn't measure my body fat, or see what my endurance was (what I saw the new trainer doing w/ppl the other night), so now I'm kinda glad he's gone. Cute or not, he wasn't right for the part. Oh well, I can only hope she hires someone even cuter as his replacement.

I never got into Survivor, but The Apprentice is on tonight!!! My friend is coming over for dinner & then we'll watch that. We love it! We applauded when they canned Sammy. Tonight I want Omarosa or Tammy gone.

There is a large blizzard-like snowstorm scheduled to start around 6 tonight, wish me luck on getting in here tomorrow!

Boss just walked by, gotta split!

It's www.thinwithinonline.com

If that still doesn't work, let me know.

SAPF- Thanks!! I certainly do feel old enough!! Here's a picture of my oldest and my youngest together-

Sandi, Good for you for joining the Y! I know my whole family loves it. All of the boys, even my 4 year old, play soccer, basketball, football, and baseball at the Y. It keeps me busy every night of the week, but I'm glad that they're active and not sitting home. During the summer we swim there almost every day.

02-05-2004, 08:34 PM
I got fired about 2 hours ago, along w/another girl. There were a few others let go as well.

I think my boss was more upset than I was. They really forced her hand, from the sounds of it. We all knew it was coming, I guess I can breathe a sigh of relief about not knowing when the guillotine is coming down.

And now I don't have to worry about making it into work through a nasty snowstorm.

[QUOTE=SuchAPrettyFace I think the only 4.0 I got in high school was my blood-alcohol level. j/k *rim shot* [/QUOTE]

Your comment to Apryl was classic! Sounds like my weekend in New Orleans :)
Sorry to hear you were fired. Are you doing alright?

Here's the address for the NYC Ballet Workout on Amazon...
Nevermind, the link I tried to make didin't work...here's plan B, just go to Amazon and search under DVD or VHS and type in "New York City Ballet Workout", and they'll come up. There are two, and I don't know if the 2nd is more advanced or just different, I'll find out one of these days, I have them both. Mom gave them to me for Christmas.

Okay, so I'll quit complaining about the snow. I was so productive at home today, I was amazed! My kitchen is clean. I cleaned out the fridge and all the cabinets and got caught up on the dishes. Now that everything is all tidied up, it makes me want to cook up a storm! I'm going to try and stop eating out so much.

I also got out and bought groceries, I ate up 14 points while I was out, but that's all I'd eaten today, and it wasn't all bad choices, and included some veggies.

Tonight I think I'm going to try something different with some cauliflower. I read somewhere about slicing it in 1/4 inch slices, making a pretty lacy pattern, then brushing with a little oil and baking. Sounds good, a mess to make, but still good. We'll see how ambitious I get.

They cancelled my WW meeting for tomorrow morning, darn it! I'll be going on Saturday for sure.

Dana, at Taco Bell I usually get 2 Fresco Style Crunchy Tacos (beef) for 3 points each and sometimes also an order of Pintos Fresco Style for 2 points. Not too bad, and super filling!

Have a lovely evening all!

terrific pig

Sandi, thanks for asking about the comic strip! Mark's been interviewed over the phone a couple of times this week by newspapers carrying the strip. Also a full page ad in Editor and Publisher, a monthly trade magazine. Lots of fan emails, too. Things are going well in Spot the Frog land.

Sorry about your job, SAPF - hope you can take some time to figure out what you want to do next without worrying too much.

Holly - hope you feel better!

02-05-2004, 11:14 PM
Angie and Mother goose ... what great looking kids you have. Angie ... about Elijah pulling up ... my son was a very cautious, tentative baby (and he's VERY coordinated and loves sports now) ... but when he learned how to pull up, he didn't know how to get down ... so for like 3 or 4 weeks, he'd pull up -- sometimes in the middle of the night -- and then yell for somebody to come help him down.   My daughter never did that ... she'd just let go and crash land!

SAPF ... so sorry to hear about your job. Yuck!!!

Thanks to all for the comments on my schedule. It won't be forever and basically you do what ya gotta do, ya know?!?!?

02-05-2004, 11:27 PM
Hi Everyone,

SAPF - I am so sorry to hear about your work. It sounds like you were expecting it so it isn't a shock - but still not a fun thing to go through. Now, you can hibernate too! Coda girl...that is cute. I hope a wonderful job comes your way soon. Whenever a door closes a window opens, good luck to you!

I hope everyone is doing well. I am in the middle of a stressful time at work and I am finding non-food ways to cope. No motivation other than wanting to be healthy. Snow, cold and wishing for spring. I know I shouldn't complain. It has just been snowy and cold since October and I can't see April soon enough. It is supposed to get to -10 this weekend. A very nice relief from the -52, -35 and -40 stuff. Maybe I can finally go skiing. Yipee! Anywhere outside of the house would be nice. Imagine, seeing one's breath before it turns to an icicle, I can hardly wait.

These kidlet pictures are so beautiful Angi and Kim. I also find it hard to believe that you have an 18 year old, Kim. You don't look too much older than that yourself. Angi, what a joyful time in your life. Full tongue raspberry, what a smart smart baby! I remember those days, they go so fast. Enjoy!

Hope everyone is having a great week. I must run and iron clothes - yuk! Then elliptical trainer, then fall into bed and get up and do it all over again tomorrow.

02-05-2004, 11:52 PM
OK, start posting your replies on the OTHER (Thursday Chatter) thread! :) Have a good one!
