Hi - I'm pretty new to this board. Usually just lurking....

Tomorrow will be my 3rd re-start of Phase I. I have been doing very well decreasing my overall carb consumption, but I keep falling off the wagon in terms of the guidelines of Phase I. I guess I forget that it is only for 2 weeks and I start to think "god, I *need* some fruit" etc., then I give up. I think if I can stick it out, Phase II will be very comfortable for me.

I want very much to do this plan because I am IR and extremely overweight following months of bedrest and a new baby. I have never had this much weight to lose - it's daunting. I believe this to be a very sound, healthy eating plan - I just need to *do* it.

Anyone else starting over? Maybe if I had to check in with a buddy I would feel some accountability and stick with the program.

Ok - back to lurking.

Daisy -
I understand exactly what you are saying. I started over a week ago, after starting & stopping too many times to count. I gained 65 lbs (yikes!!!) when I was pregnant with my son. I went from 115 to 181 & here I am 5 years later. I did lose all but 10-15 lbs which I struggle with up & down (right now I would be way UP). Still not sure why I gained sooo much pregnancy weight, but that's another story -- the nightly bowls of cereal and ice cream may have contributed :). My son was 10 lbs & I'm only 5'3".

I bet a lot of your weight will come off even without phase 1, just follow a normal eating plan without any junk or sugar. But, if you can stick out phase 1 for a week, you'll be so excited about your results that it may motivate you to keep going.

How old is your baby?

I'll be your buddy, too.

Anne

Thanks so much, guys!

I would love to have a start-over buddy. Today I am eating well, but not strictly phase I; more like II or III - which is still better than simply eating whatever I want. I could do Friday, Sat. or Sunday for a re-start and just stay on Phase II for now.... just let me know....

What I think I need to do is go shopping for lots of legal foods. Also, I find that the ff/sf jello just makes me nuts with cravings etc. so I should stay away from it for a while.

Anne: thanks so much for the support. DS is just 5 months. He was nearly 3 weeks early and just 6 pounds (I had a lot of complications during pregnancy), so I can't blame him for gaining so much. Although 3 months of strict bed-rest during the 3rd trimester didn't help, however.

At this point, 5 months later, I feel I should have lost a lot of the baby weight - I am actually embarassed to tell people how old he is, since I am still using him as a convenient excuse for being overweight. On a more positive note, he is absolutely scrumptious and, as far as I can tell, munching on his belly and thighs is calorie-free. :p

Anyway, thanks for making me feel so welcome - let me know when you all want to start Phase I again and I am on-board.

Daisy, don't be embarrassed. I still have 60 pounds to lose from my last pregnancy, and my baby is eight years old.

Daisy,
I just wanted to let you know how I was doing. My DH is an absolute Juice addict. We were going through 2 gallons of OJ a week if I was lucky, some weeks we bought more.

And, I kinda believe that 28 days of doing something and it becomes habit. Tomorrow is my 28th day, and honestly we don't have to run past the frozen pizzas and avoid the deli b/c it's near the bread.

We're doing really great, and I can't believe the junk I used to eat. So I'm confident if you make changes and stick to them you can do it.

My DH has reached his goal weight already, but he is sticking to it. We've noticed other changes besides the weight loss. I feel much better (the first 14 days are hard to feel very good for some folks), my skin is clearer, and I think I'm sleeping better. I feel like my relationship with my DH is even better than ever because we work as a team, and support each other. He even decided to buy Omega3 capsules, because he felt that fish and spinach were soooo helpful in the way he felt about dealing with stress etc.

So congratulations on your beautiful baby, and jump on.

;)

Daisy -

5 months? It took me at least 2 years to feel "normal" weight again. At LEAST! I have friends who basically wore their pre-pregnancy jeans home from the hospital and here I was wearing a size 14 for the first time in my life when my son was 6 months old. It was hard but looking back I realize how much time I wasted worrying about my weight and my looks when all that should have mattered was my baby. So give yourself some time. My sister was the same way, it took her three years to lose all the weight. You should never be embarassed about yourself - you have an amazing baby and its nobody's business how much weight you've gained/lost yet.

I think women always expect to lose the weight in 12 weeks because that's what all the books say. When in reality, it can and does take much longer for many women and that's O.K. too!

Ellis: you crack me up! :D

I was telling DH that I am still going to have the "baby weight" on when DS is 20....

Pebbles - you sound like you are having great success. Thanks for the support. Which Omega-3 capsules do you like? I was thinking that DH and I should take those....

Lessismore: you are right: I should be focusing on DS and enjoying him instead of being sad about my weight. And I *do* enjoy him - we have a blast. Probably if I would just chill out, I would be able to get started on SBD and do well.

Ok, well, tomorrow, Sat., is my start-over date. See you then!

Thanks so much, guys.
