WW Clubs and Groups - 50 or more pounds, #56View Full Version : 50 or more pounds, #56 texaslady 03-28-2001, 09:03 AM If you have 50 or more pounds to lose, jump on in and join us! You will be sure to get a warm welcome! :) texaslady 03-28-2001, 09:24 AM Well, its been raining solid since yesterday afternoon about 3:00. Not just raining - POURING! Ands its cold, too - high only in low 50's. We are so close to sea level that once again, the city is flooded. The bldg where I work is right on a bayou and right now it is way out of its banks. There's an Omni hotel right behind us and the bayou has flowed into their swimming pool and lobby and I see no lights on over there - guess they have evacuated all the guests to somewhere else. We are supposed to get more rain today - although it had stopped on the drive in this am - but damage had already been done with many street closings due to high water. It recedes around here pretty fast too so maybe this break we are having now will help clear the roads - but it may be bad again by this afternoon. What a mess. Happy spring. Jan - guess you got this rain before we did! Are you floating away yet? The berry trifle sounds wonderful! I ordered the Pirates Booty and it came yesterday! I ordered 2 cases so I have LOTS of it now! :D I think I will order an assortment next time - those Potato Flyers you had were good, too. Yes, dd's fiance liked the house too and they actually put a bid in on it yesterday. Now they are waiting to hear from the Seller - they figure she will counter their offer but they are willing to go a little higher so maybe it will work out. I told them TODAY would be good time to go check out the back yard to see if it drains properly! Its too cold for me, too! Can't wait for our nice weather to return. Carol - When I was having so much trouble with the bursitis in my shoulder, the first thing the dr. had me do was get rid of my shoulder purse. Fact, I haven't carried one for many years now. I just buy purses with the short handles so I resist the temptation to hoise it on my sore shoulder. Looks like you are having the same kind of spring we are this week! Yuck. Liz - Glad to have you checking in. Yep - gottta go to that meeting and face the music to keep from spiraling downhill! That's the first step in being successful, you know. Just get right back up on the horse. Joyce - Texas is condering legislation to limit young teens' driving (e.g. how many others can be in the car, hours they can drive, etc.) I think it is a WONDERFUL idea! Kids believe they are indestructable - but of course, they aren't. And putting them behind the wheel when they don't have the maturity or experience to make good judgments just isn't a good idea. When my dd got her license at 16, I had Mom restrictions too. The one I remember most is that she had a "box" of an area where she could drive without notifying me where she was going. The "sides" of the box were major streets in our part of town and it was about 5 miles across the "box" - of course, it included the high school. If she went anywhere else, we had to know about it. It worked really well, actually. Patti - Wow, you are on a roll, girl! Over 11 pounds in 3 weeks is wonderful! Congratulations! I'm with Carol on the snowcones - I don't see how they could be too bad a choice. If you make them yourself, you can limit the syrup and count that by measuring how much goes on. Gee, we have lots families with graduates this year! My dd is officially getting her Master's Degree May 12 so I guess that counts too! Nancy - Good going on your loss too! You are hanging in there so well! Once spring arrives (No, 40 degrees to me is NOT spring!), you will be able to get out and about more and burn some more calories - although I suspect those 8 year olds take care of that, too! :D Saara - School is almost out for you and with the school semester will go the Statistics! Yea!! Sorry you had to leave your kitties elsewhere but I know you feel better knowing they are happy in their new home. Sure makes for an "empty" house without our pets. I still find myself "listening" for my beagle and she's been gone for almost 3 years now. Well, girls, gotta go and get to work. Have a great day and will check in again later. gmalil 03-28-2001, 11:06 AM Good morning! it is supposed to be about 80 degrees here in the L.A. area today! We're going to have a warm week! Makes me feel a bit guilty when I read of all you being so cold and wet! Texaslady, I agree with you, it is a good idea for your dd and fiance to check out that house when it is raining and flooding! sounds like you really have it bad, I'm so sorry! It's a good thing that your dd got her pictures taken before this hit!! Is her name Kristen, or is that Janet's dd? I get so confused, I need more notes. :?: Is your strawberry freezer jam recipe made with sugar, or low sugar?? i know that such a recipe exists, I would like to find it. the strawberries that I have had this year are so sweet, I won't need much sugar, I'm sure! Carol It is amazing how easy it can be to adjust to a smaller purse, I used to have awful sholder problems! But I get along fine with a smaller one now, with just the neccessities. Nancy I guess it would depend on how much and how sweet the syrup is that you put on those sno-cones, but i agree with the others, they can't be too bad. Enjoy! liz good for you for facing the scales! It is sure not easy for me, sometimes! But I sure do need it! Janet, your trifle sounds delish! I will give it a try when we have compamny next week. dh's brother and wife will be here for 4 or 5 days. You asked me about our brown outs, which could be a long subject, but basically.... the out of state power companies that we buy our power from have raised the prices because all of a sudden several power plants that are 'out of service for unscheduled maintenance'. We are in the process of building plants in Calif., but have had to sign long term contracts with the other states, so will have to pay outrageous prices, even after outr plants are in operation. I have heard that there are ways to avoid shutting down critical places like hospitals, but have also heard that patients are assured of back-up generators. Which I don't trust! When my little granddaughter was still in the ICU area of the burn center, several years ago, the power went out for about 20 minutes, and no generator kicked in! there were 2 patients in her room that had to be 'bagged', because their oxygen was not working. I was glad I was there to comfort dgd during that time. I have never sung so many verses to "there was an old lady who swallowed a fly" in all my life! But I digress! And ramble! must run! Look at the time! ~~~~ JOYce NawlinsLady 03-28-2001, 11:30 AM Hi everyone, My son's HS symphonic band had a performance last night and they won sweepstakes - which is all superiors. They were AWESOME!! The retirement luncheon is today and I am looking forward to the grilled fish!! JOYce - Yes, New Orleans is great. I am born and raised here and I know it gets alot of bad publicity - you know -- the CITY OF SIN!! But I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. The beauty and the history of the city are just great. Also, on the driving thing - my son didn't get his permit until August of last year. He was 17 and he kept his permit for awhile. He got in alot of practice with Mom and Dad in the car. That was the most stressful thing I have had to do yet. Hand over my keys to my baby!! But he has his own car now and he loves it and he is very responsible and calls me to let me know where he is all the time. Well I'll try to get back on later. Big Congrats to all the losers!!! Keep the faith!! Patti xstitchingal 03-28-2001, 05:26 PM Good Afternoon Everyone!! Well, I made it to my meeting today. I was really expecting to have gained or to maintain, I did not expect to finally hit my 10% or any of that good stuff. So I was a little nervous. But I got there got on the scale and told my leader to please tell me something good. And it worked, she did. I lost 2.1 pounds. Over my 10%! I was so happy I danced. Good thing I was the first one there. :D Someday when I get closer to my goal I will tell all my family how much I have lost. Right now I am just not ready to share that, does that sound silly? My mom, sister and niece met me before my meeting, but it was a short visit. My mom was not feeling well, so they drove back to my sisters. It was nice to have lunch out with the girls! We had a foggy day, but it was about 30 degrees, so it was pretty nice. Someday summer will come here and then I can get outside. I feel so trapped. I try to walk (as well as do my exercise bike) when I can just as some extra exercise. It is so nice to smell the fresh air, hear the birds (soon they'll be back), and just get to feel the wonder of being outside. Anyway, I ramble on... Well everyone, I better get a move on dh will be home in a few minutes and I need to show him all my treats. Talk to you all later. Rebecca  PS...Funny story...lost my sunglasses two weeks ago, so I bought a new pair. Well, at my meeting today AFTER I was feeling pretty good about reaching that goal, I saw them sitting on the counter. :) My leader said that my day couldn't get any better...I have to agree, it has been wonderful! gmalil 03-28-2001, 08:18 PM CONGRATS REBECCA!!! I feel the same way about not telling others how much I weigh. I have been worried about reaching 10%, because I figured they would tell how much that was and then DUH! people could figure it out...but last week i watched as someone got he s and no specific poundage was mentioned. Very nice, I thought! keep up the good work. ~~~~~ JOYce texaslady 03-29-2001, 09:10 AM WAY TO GO, REBECCA!!!!! We are so proud of you for reaching your 10%! At my meeting, the leader is always very cautious and never "tells" how much weight someone has lost - especially someone who has lost their 10% - that way no one knows unless you want them to and you tell them yourself! Well, the rain let up yesterday but everything is still pretty flooded - but at least all the streets are open again. That's a good thing! My dd & her fiance signed a contract for the house. The Seller countered their offer only $1000 above what they had bid, so they decided to take it and not quibble. Now they have to get it inspected and do the final loan approval steps. They don't have to close until May 31 - their apartment lease is up July 1 so it should all work out really well timewise. I hope they haven't jumped into something too quickly - but they did do a lot of research and carefully budgeted for the mortgage payment. Gotta go for now. Everyone have a great Thursday! NawlinsLady 03-29-2001, 10:42 AM Rebecca - That is wonderful!!! Good for you!!! I can imagine how excited you were. I have 6.6 more to go to my 10% and I am really looking forward to it. And girl - I lose a pair of sunglasses a week it seems like. I just cannot keep track of them. So - I've learned that I can never buy expensive ones.... TexasLady - I think the rain left there and came straight here yesterday. It was awful and it is STILL cool and dreary. I wish it would get warm. I like my hot, humid weather much more than cold. Wow, I am excited for your daughter. My husband and I are going to start looking for a house soon. We are with my Dad right now. We sold my husbands house and stayed with my Dad to save a little. But now that both kids (my son and my step-daughter (she lives with her Mom)) are graduating from Catholic High Schools, we are going to have plenty enough to cover a mortgage payment. Boy that high school tuition was more than the college they are going to go to. But it was worth it. The public schools here leave a little to be desired. I'll talk to everyone later. Have a great OP day. Bye, Patti Rymsh 03-29-2001, 07:50 PM Hi everyone from drizzly, wet, cold Maryland! This is NOT my idea of spring!! Liz, I can definitely relate to what you said about doing things you never expected to be doing. I've never tackled a car battery, but in the almost 6 years that I've been separated and totally on my own I've acquired some skills I never expected to have, that's for sure. My most memorable accomplishment was trapping a mouse. I have a terror of the things- I break out in a cold sweat when I touch a mouse trap in a package on the shelf at a store. But shortly after I moved into my apartment I saw signs of a mouse under my sink. So, being determined not to ask for help from either my exdh or my sil, I managed to catch him! And I lived to tell the tale!:D Amazing what we can do if we have to! I hope you get some time to relax this weekend after your busy week! Texaslady, it sounds like you've had some awful weather in your neck of the woods! I hope the worst is over. How nice that your dd and her df found a house they liked so easily!!!What's it like? You're right about heavy purses- but after my ortho doctor told me my purse probably weighed more than the 10 pounds I'm permitted to lift, I of course had to weigh it- and it's only 3lbs 3 ounces! The shoulder bag's a better option for me because of the type of back thing I have, supposedly. Who knows? Joyce, send me some of your sunshine, will you? Maybe it will be a pick-me-up! How awful to have your electricity rates going up so drastically- especially with summer around the corner. Patti, congrats to your son's symphony band and their outstanding performance!Have fun searching for a house- that's so exciting! Rebecca, way to go, girl!!! :):) That 10% mark is such an exciting milestone! I've never minded telling people how much I've lost- but I don't tell anyone what I way. Maybe after I get my last 20 pounds off I will- I don't know. What's everyone got planned for the weekend? I'm off tomorrow because I'm already into overtime this week, so I decided it was time for an escape from the real world. So, I'm taking a cheap weekend away to the PA Dutch area and will also do some "window shopping" in the many outlets there. I found a very reasonable motel that's supposed to be nice- hopefully it is. I'm not crazy about going away by myself, but if I want to get away I have no choice but for it to be by myself, so I picked a spot with lots of "one person" stuff I can do. And I'll take books and crosswords and the math puzzles I love, and maybe I'll come back with a lowered stress level! My exdh called, just in case I happened to turn on the news. There was a big tornado in the county where my little Florida house is this morning, but it missed the development where our places are by about a mile, thank God. About 80 homes were destroyed and a couple horses killed, but no human lives lost, fortunately. Scarey stuff. Well, I'd better run. I've got a lot to do this evening if I want to leave in the morning. Have a good weekend, everyone. Carol justliz 03-30-2001, 07:10 AM Morning everyone, from the wet state of New Jersey!. Rain is pouring down in sheets. My celler is leaking because of it so I guess my next skill is to learn how to repair celler walls. i am so excited. I went back to my meeting yesterday to face the music. Even though I have been op since Monday I figured that I would be paying the price for last weeks six day binge. I only gained .6. Yeah! Carol , have fun in PA. On of the things that I am planning to do in my new singledom is to start traveling. I never could have afforded it while the skank was around so I have made that one of my priorities. I plan to go to England in the fall and am going by myself. Rebecca:way to go on your loss! It doesn't sound silly. I have not told a single soul about the amount of weight I have lost (of course except for everyone here) because I didn't want anyone adding to my current weight (which I also never shared) so they would not add it up and figure how much I used to weigh. Texaslady, good luck on the house hunting. That's always so exciting. Keep us posted. Gotta run. Everone have a great weekend. I am going to an orienteering event this weekend. That is also something that I always wanted to do (kind of a race in the woods where they plat a course in the woods and you follow it with a compas and get a card stamped at checkpoints along the way) I have never been before so I talked a friend into going with me since I don't know what to expect and I needed someone to getme over the hurdle of the first one. Of course this friend is in Mass where I used to live so I am going up there this weekend. Bye for now! Rymsh 04-01-2001, 07:19 PM Hi everyone! We've been a quiet site for the past few days- everyone must have had a busy weekend. I enjoyed my little getaway to Lancaster. I picked up one sweater for myself and a ton of stuff for you-know-who at the outlets. I also checked out some of the Amish tourist stuff, and drove around the countryside. I had thought about taking an Amish buggy ride, but the weather wasn't too pleasant. I actually ate in a nice restaurant alone too- I'm getting so daring! I was in my room before dark- I don't do roaming in unknown territory alone at night- I can get lost going around the block, and at night I'm even worse. All in all it was a relaxing couple of days- I probably shouldn't have spent the money, but I felt it was necessary. Liz, good for you for only picking up .6 after your bad week- you must have done better than you thought for at least part of it. How was your "orienteering" weekend? That's something Ive never heard of. I'd probably be lost beyond return- I have the most awful sense of direction!!!! I'm impressed that you are planning a trip to England alone in the fall! Well, I have some laundry to finish up, and daylight saving time or not, I still have to get up at 4 AM, so I think I'll run. Have a good op Monday, everyone. Carol  gmalil 04-01-2001, 08:05 PM Hi Carol! It sounds like you had a great time! good for you for being so brave. Actually I enjoy going places by myself sometimes, because I can do just what I want to do! dh has been going to make our reservations for New Orleans all weekend, but hasn't yet, maybe tonight. I might have to bug him a bit. :) I had two of my younger grandkids Friday night and all day Saturday, so they kept me pretty busy, 9 and 11, but they like to keep busy, we molded clay fruits and dragonflies from clay, and then I showed them how to pour ceramic slip into molds, they thought that was great fun...I may have 2 apprentices on hand. Linda and I are going to Michaels tomorrow to check out some soap making kits, and on Tuesday my company arrives, so will be a busy week. I did not do well with my point counting last week, this week will hopefully be much better, even with company. bye for now  ~~~~ JOYce texaslady 04-01-2001, 09:14 PM Sure has been quiet in here this week-end! Well, our weather was absolutely gorgeous yesterday and today - got into the 80's! :D I spent most of the day yesterday in my kitchen re-lining my pantry with shelf paper. Well, of course that entailed taking every single item out and putting it back. Man, I found stuff I had forgotten was in there! Needless to say, a lot of it wound up in the trash! But my walk-in pantry looks so awesome now! That's a job I have been procrastinating and the old shelf paper looked SO BAD!!!! Course, getting up and down on the little step ladder aggravated muscles I hadn't used in a while so I paid for it last night! Oh well, a job well done! :) Spent part of today at my Mom's and part of it at my dd's. She & fiance are so excited about the new house. We went to a home supply store to poke around and she saw so many things she "would love to have!" I reminded her that any extra $ would now almost always go to "something for the house" and that it takes lots of years to get everything purchased and the way you want it. She just wants instant gratification!! Carol - I am glad you got away for a week-end and good for you for going it alone! Like Joyce said, I love going somewhere by myself because you can do exactly what you want to do! Don't have to please anyone but yourself. Hope the weather was decent. Joyce - Hang in there with your company and don't lose sight of the program. You are off to a good start again now! Gotta go. Tomorrow can't be Monday again already!! justliz 04-02-2001, 06:29 AM Morning, everyone! Carol: your trip sounds wonderful. I have heard that it is a beautiful area to visit. I hope you are all relaxed and ready for the new week. Joyce: Do you make soaps? i have always wanted to try that. I take it from the post that you do ceramics. That sounds like fun too. Texaslady: Kudos to you for cleaning that pantry. Mine looms dark in the background (actually my whole house looms dark in the background) Don't you feel a sense of accompishment? My friend and I went to the orienteering meet this weekend and I absolutely loved it. We walked the trail and of course did the easiest one that never left a main trail. But it was so much fun and I am learning to read one of those maps. Have to get myself a compas. I really enjoy being outdoors. Now I want to learn to birdwatch Have a great day everyone. saarao 04-02-2001, 08:39 AM Hi! I'm still computerless at home, and haven't had the time to sit in the computerlab (which I hate to do anyways), so I'm sorry I haven't checked in for a while. I had a great weekend, work and parties... that's all I seem to be doing now. Well, I have a test coming up on Friday and I have studied for it a bit too. Statistics is almost over, one more time on wednesday! :D I couldn't be happier... The sun is shining, and the temps are getting higher, about 35 in the morning, but about 50 in the afternoon. So now I can wear my cool rubberjacket. I have so much selfconfidence these days, it's amazing. The weightloss is a big part of it... I just feel great! I hope you all share these feelings with me! well, gotta run. Have a great day! Saara. gmalil 04-02-2001, 11:15 AM Hi from 'drizzly' sunny California! Our weather is so wierd!! it goes from a scorching 82 on Saturday to drizzles today, still supposed to be warm, just yukky! liz I have made a few soaps, just using the block of soapstuff from Michaels and some cherub molds, and at Xmas I embedded some things in snowglobe soaps... not my favorite! And yes I enjoy doing ceramics, also making porcelain dolls. My dh decided when I started making the dolls that I needed my own kiln, so I have a pretty nice set up and able to do my own firings, which saves some money, although he is afraid we will have one of those famous rolling brown outs in the midst of a fire. I do almost all of my firing after we go to bed though, which is not when they have them I really enjoy making the ceramic eggs this time of year, and have sold some thru a local shop. I also put names on them and use them for placecards for Easter dinner. (always a hit) I have some 'not so good'photos of them on my Homepage, I'll send you a PM with the address. In case you would like to take a peak. Must get with it! much to do today! . I have a truck load of cans to recycle before meeting Linda for our soap shopping and then have to finish last minute sprucing up the place for company. ;) Have a great OP day! This is a quiet Monday morrning!! Where is everybody?!?! Bye  ~~~ JOYce JanetMae 04-02-2001, 04:01 PM Hi all! Sorry to be awol, but things have been really hectic, lots of grant deadlines and such, and moving into a new office. Texaslady, I'm so glad your dd found her house! What an exciting time for her. Sounds like she made a good deal, too! Way to go, cleaning out that pantry; isn't it a great feeling to get something organized? I used to keep things *so* cluttered it was unreal, but now that we've spent a little time making permanent "places" for the stuff we need, and throwing what we don't, I find I have much more peace of mind. Our historical society is having a huge garage sale in May, so that gives me another good opportunity to clean up! Patti, how was the retirement luncheon? I agree with you about New Orleans; it's unique, and just has an aura about it. Are you and your dh going to look for a house near downtown, like in the Garden District? Rebecca, way to go on the ten percent! :) Hope your Mom is feeling better now? And no, it doesn't sound silly at all not to tell people how much you've lost; I don't share that outside this group, and my dh. It's amazing how many people will ask outright, though! I usually say "not quite enough, yet, but I feel so much better now." That clues people in w/out offending them, I hope... Carol, your weekend sounded great! Wish I could have been there with you; I love antique stores and mills. And I'm so glad to hear that you're taking some time for yourself; you put in way too much overtime. Re: that tornado, whew, glad it missed your house in Florida! JOYce, now you're making soap too?! Is there anything you can't do? I am so amazed at all your talents. You know, I met a lady at a country fair in Nova Scotia who was selling her homemade soaps; they were just wonderful, and I bought a bag full as gifts. She said she was on an Internet discussion list for soapmakers; isn't the 'net great? Saara, your words are like sunshine, I can't read them without smiling and feeling better myself. So glad to hear your statistics class is almost over! Liz, the orienteering trip sounded like great fun! What a clever way to exercise both mind and body. Did you and your friend camp out? And you're going to start birdwatching too? That sounds like fun; there are lots of "birders" down in S.Texas, too. You'll have to come down here some day and see what you can spot! Do you know, we have a pair of Great Horned Owls nesting behind our house? They're huge, and make such a resonating "hoo hoo" each evening. Janet, how are things going in Mississippi? Had some friends over for dinner last night, and tried out a new recipe on them, Lemon Grass Lobster Soup. No fat at all. It was absolutely wonderful, if I do say so myself! Will post that tonight from home. Everyone have a great Monday! Jan Rymsh 04-03-2001, 04:40 AM Good morning ladies!! Are you all adjusting to the time change? I expected to be bothered by it this year since I get up so early, but so far it hasn't been a problem. Of course, I am the perpetual morning person! Joyce, when are you and dh going to New Orleans? If you said, it slipped by me somehow. I can't believe you make soaps too! You are such a talented lady! I've always wished I could do that sort o thing. I have a question to ask you- I'll send you a p.m. Enjoy your company- and try to find some time to relax too! Texaslady, send me your 80"s!! Please!!! We're back in the 30's today, although yesterday was pleasant in the mid 50's. But I'm ready for a REAL spring! This cold weather is downright depressing! I can almost feel your dd's excitement with her new house- first houses are so special! I laughed at your comment about her wanting "instant gratification"! That seems to be pretty typical of our daughters' generation- I see it with my "kids" all the time too! Want it yesterday!!! Liz, I'm glad you enjoyed your orienteering adventure! Birdwatching sounds like fun, but I don't know if I could be still and quiet long enough to not scare then away! Saara, I'm sorry to here that your computer is still ailing, but I'm glad you're keeping in touch with us anyhow! Any word on the Finnish test or the exchange thing? I'm glad you're finally geting some warmer weather and sunshine! Enjoy your new self confidence- and your jacket!!! Jan, it sounds like your life just keeps getting busier and busier!!Lemongrass Lobster soup sounds delicious- let us know where you post it! Did you see the 3fc recipe of the day today for crab and asparagus casserole? That sounds so good to me- I think I'll try it this weekend. Janet, where are you hiding? Is your body surviving daylight savings time? I know you said you aren't a morning person anyway! How's Motley doing? Patti, how was the retirement luncheon? Were you able to stick to your good and healthy intentions? Hi to Rebecca, both Nancies, kendra and anyone I may have inadvertently forgotten at this early hour! Have a great day, everyone. Carol justliz 04-03-2001, 07:16 AM Morning everyone! Back to work today. Had yesterday off and was able to get a little more done in the house. I am trying to get as much done as I can so that when the good weather finally gets here I can spend time outside. So Texaslady, if you can send some of those old sun rays myway I would really appreciate it. JanetMae, that owl sound so beautiful. I have to admit that I know nothing about birds except that the cats and I plan to do a lot of bird watching this year. I did sign up for my "birding for Beginners" at the nearest NJ Audobon refuge. Joyce, I am looking forward to seeing your porcelin on your webpage. I am always so jealous of creative people. I don't have a creative bone in my body. Gotta run and catch up on all my emails from yesterday. Everyone have a great day texaslady 04-03-2001, 09:05 AM Good morning, girls! Saara - I can tell you are feeling so much better about your self image! It definitely comes through in your postings. Only one more statistics class - whoo hoo! When do classes end for you there? Pretty soon, I bet. Won't be long now. Joyce - your musings about your ceramics kind of makes me miss it! I used to do it a LOT when ex-dh was still in the military. Haven't done anything in years but I always loved it - still do, I guess. :) My next craft project is gel candles. I wanted to make them as favors for dd's wedding in October but her step-mother wanted to do something to help so we let her make a different favor than the gel candles. But I do think I will make some "mock champagne" candles in wine glasses to give to each of the wedding party and anyone else who contributes in some way. I have never made them, but it doesn't look too hard from what I can tell from the web sites I have been lurking on. Oh, and thanks for the little injection of "Texas" you sent to me via e-mail. It made me smile and tap my toes! Jan - You are once again a very busy lady! Gosh, teaching is going to seem "tame" to you when you don't have so much rushing around to do. When do you "officially" leave your current position? And you find time to good such amazing meals too??? I'm jealous. I guess I have the time, I am just too lazy to cook after I get home. I do sometimes cook on week-ends, though, when I get a burst of "Betty Crocker"! :D Carol - Wish I could send you some of our weather! It was 75 when I left the house this morning before daylight! But muggy, muggy, muggy! Typical weather for this Humidity City! Supposed to be in mid 80's today w/chance of showers this afternoon. You can just about copycat that weather report everyday this week per the weatherguy. Are you still traveling to Virginia several times a week! I am keeping my fingers crossed that spring makes it to your part of the world before long. Winter is TOO depressing, I agree. Liz - Seems you are off and running on your own now! I am so proud of you for trying new things! That's a big plus for single-ness! Will try to push some of our Texas weather up north for you, too! Spring always seems like such a good time for new beginnings - whatever they be! Patti - Haven't heard from you in a few days! How's it going? I didn't have private school tuition to pay in high school but my dd attended a private university and talk about $$$$$!!! Good thing her Dad chipped in half or she would have a whole batch of student loans right now instead of buying a new house! Went over to the new house last night to meet the Inspection guy and see what he had to say about the place. He found several "problems" but none were major - and almost 100% of the things SHOULD be repaired/replaced/redone by the builder since the house is less than one year old. For instance, the doorbell didn't work, there were a couple loose shingles on the roof, the AC vents weren't all cooling the same (air flow problem), the starter wasn't working on the gas log fireplace, and there was a vent pipe left unattached in the attic. Because she purchased the house new, I am guessing the Seller never paid for an inspection so she wouldn't know some of these things. The only problem I see will be getting the Seller to contact the builder to get the things done since she is now residing in California. The inspector even realized that she never even had the telephone line connected! The wires are just hanging loose outside the side of the house! The phone company will have to string a line to the nearest pole. She really didn't live in the house very long and I am guessing she depended on a cell phone for communication. Gotta go. Have a great day! Will check in again later. NawlinsLady 04-03-2001, 11:31 AM Hi everyone, Well 2.8 more pounds gone forever!!! My total is up to 14.2!!! This just seems TOOO easy this time. And still NO soft drinks......I'm amazing myself. And yes I did behave myself at the luncheon. The grilled catfish was wonderful. It was blackened and really spicy! TexasLady - I'd love to live in the garden district - but it is vvvverrry expensive. We are probably going to stay on the Westbank of the Mississippi River since my husband and I both work on that side. It is finally warm here. And the strawberry festival is this weekend in Pontchatoula. We usually go - but....there is so much food there. But I know I can handle it. My office crew is going to a local seafood restaurant this Thursday night. I can't wait for the crawfish, crabs and shrimp. Well, my son registered for college Saturday. He is going in the fall but got to do early registration because of his high ACT score. He got all of the classes he wanted and also took a writing test and got 3 hours of English credit just for writing a paper. So he will start with Sophomore English. He is going to major in Fine Arts - Studio. He wants to be a graphic artist. Joyce - I love to do ceramics. I used to go to a class here but the girl gave it up. I'd love to start again. Right now I'm into scrapbooking and card making using dry embossing and rubber stamping. I used to do cross stitch and have loads of stuff that I need to get rid of to make room for my new hobbies. I have carpal tunnel just bad enough to keep me from cross stitching. Well, hope everyone is doing great OP!! Talk to you all later. Patti justliz 04-04-2001, 06:29 AM Good morning again! Patti: I am clapping for you and your 2.8 lbs! Way to go! I wish I had your will power when I go out. Tomorrow I have to take the customers for their "entertainment". We limo them into New York for dinner and a play. I love the restaurant that we take them to and can't even visualize being op there! They have a preset menu there (customers get to pick from each section) and not one thing is even anywhere near a good choice. And look at me rambling so much about this food! Ponchatoula! What a great name. It made me start thinking about the differences in region. In norther NJ we have names like Mahwah and HoHokus and Waldwick. The Indian influence combined with the German settlers. Texaslady; What are gel candles? They sound kind of neat. You seem to have some of that creative juices flowing in your veins too! Joyce: I went to your webpage and your ceramics are beautiful as is your family. Jan: Could you send me some of that Lobster soup! Is is hard to make? I am always looking for something easy and different to have when the cooking bug hits me. Not that it does too often, but it does occasionally Carol:I'm with you being a morning person. of course it does make it difficult on the other end of the day when I am ready to go to bed at 9pm. Saara: Your happiness absolutely jumped out of the computer. You go girl! Have to run now. Hi to everyone I missed. xstitchingal 04-04-2001, 11:36 AM Good Morning Everyone! Well, I left for my meeting and had to turn around. We are having freezing rain and the roads are very slick. I decided to wait and see if it gets nicer this afternoon and then my dh and I can go and I can hit the evening meeting. Although, I know that the outcome at the weigh in will not be that great...guess I felt like I was invicible since I hit my 10%! I ate like a crazy woman. Just finally got under control yesterday. Scary. Anyway, if I do go, I hope that it isn't as bad as I am suspecting... Saara- Congrats on the jacket! Wear it with pride!! :D I know what you mean about the self-confidence with weight loss. I find myself smiling more and I am more outgoing towards people. Guess if we feel good about ourselves, we radiate it to all those around us! Jan- That soup sounds wonderful! I love trying new recipes, don't you? Sometimes I have major flops, but sometimes you find that one that will forever be a family favorite. Patti- Congrats on the 2.8! You are doing wonderfully!! You sound like you love to craft. I do too. I scrapbook (am doing one for my mom and dad, with all their 30th anniversary stuffs and pics from their trip to Hawaii), I am thinking about doing one with all the pictures of "before" and "after" with this weight loss trip when I reach my goal. That way I have some thing to look back on. I also cross-stitch. I love it, I find it so relaxing and then when I see the finished product, I feel pretty good about myself. I am a junky though, I have more stuff and I just keep buying and buying and never seem to get it all done...:o Well everyone, I guess I better get a move on. You all have a great day and I will talk to you later. Rebecca  Rymsh 04-04-2001, 07:50 PM Hi everyone! Just wanted to touch base- it's been a very long day in a very long week, so this will be short! Patti, hooray for you an th 2.8 pound loss!! I wish I could say the same- I'm in a holding pattern! You are really doing great! Liz, good luck on surviving the dinner and play! Just jump right back op tomorrow! Texaslady, your candles sound wonderful!! You are so talented!! I'm envious! I'm in VA 3 days this week- resulting in the first 3 days this week being 12 hours long each plus the commute. :dizzy:This too shall pass! Rebecca, now don't go getting carried away with yourself now that you've reached your 10%!! Hang in there! Sorry about your freezing rain, but I'm glad it missed us. Our upcoming weekend is supposed to be lovely and springlike. Janet, WHERE ARE YOU??!! Ladies, I hate to run, but I'm so tired I can't think straight. Hi to everyone I missed. I'll talk to you all later. Carol xstitchingal 04-05-2001, 08:58 AM Good Morning Everyone! Just a quick note to let you know that I did make it to my meeting. I didn't get a chance to stay for the whole thing, but I did weigh-in and had a chat with my leader. I lost .4 and I am VERY happy with that. I was expecting a gain, so a loss was very nice to see. :) But I better go. I have an appointment to get my hair cut. You all have a great day, keep up the great work everyone!! Talk to you later. Rebecca  texaslady 04-05-2001, 09:09 AM Happy Thursday everyone - and you KNOW what' s the best thing about Thursday, don't you? Tomorrow's FRIDAY! Rebecca - Congrats on your loss this week! It's always a pleasant surprise to have a loss when you expect a gain. Unfortunately, for me anyway, that gain usually comes the NEXT week! :( Just as I am patting myself on the back for losing even though I wasn't OP, it "catches up" with me the next week. So make your plan now to get back and stay OP so you will have a super week next time. It is so hard for me to visualize your icy weather - gosh, it was 73 here this am when I left for work BEFORE DAYLIGHT. And 100% humidity - so sticky, sticky, sticky. We have some kind of haze hanging over the city which the news said was coming from Mexico. Of course, add that in to the usual pollution and its pretty thick! Liz - Gel candles are those made with a gel wax (which is clear) as opposed to regular wax which is opague. You can purchase the gel ready-made or mix it yourself. You just heat it and pour into the container with a wick and any objects you wish to imbed in the gel. For instances, those jar candles which look like "home made preserves" usually are made with some gel. Also I have seen gel candles poured into fish bowls which look like water and you can imbed glass fish, shells, etc in them to look like a mini fish tank. I plan to color the wax a champagne color and pour it into champagne glasses to make a candle for the wedding attendants. We will add a strawberry and decorate the glass stem with ribbon and a little thank you message. The are really cute. Carol - Sorry to hear that you are so tired and having to travel so much. You must be careful or you will find yourself flat on your back again! The doctors USUALLY know what they are talking about :D - so don't overdo now. And tomorrow is a better day........... At least it seems you will have a nice weather week-end. Good weather always seems to pick up everyone's spirits. I may actually try to cook something this week-end. I bought a pound of oven roasted turkey breast at the deli last week-end and I have been existing off of turkey sandwiches each night. Getting a little tired of it so guess its time for a change. Maybe something warm and nutrition - now THERE'S a thought! Time for me to go and get back to work. Hi to everyone - gmalil 04-05-2001, 11:21 AM Good morning, just a quick note. texaslady your gel candles sound like they will be quite lovely! I look forward to seeing gorgeous pictures of the whole event! I think it is great that your dd and fiance have found there new home ...how exciting! I remember our first! <<<<sigh>>>> Jan have you posted the soup recipe? I didn't see it yesterday when I looked. It sounds so good! CarolI agree with texaslady, be careful with all your traveling that you don't get your back out of whack! :nono: OUCH! rebecca it sounds like you are doing great! good for you! It's good, at least for me, to at least weigh in, when I can't stay for the whole meeting. Our company is here, it is a rare occasion for all 4 brothers to get together. We spent all afternoon and evening at b-i-l's home yesterday, the brother's all ended up in the computer room , solving the worlds problems and reminiscing, it was such a joy to here their laughter as they told tales on each other! We wives just stayed in the living room and played Mexican train dominoes, we had a good time! today we are going into L.A. to see the Gene Autry museum with them. My sil that is visiiting from OR is a painter and she enjoys seeing the artwork and we have never seen this place, it is supposed to be really nice and is not too awfullly far away. I do ramble... must go and fix breakfast... folks are beginning to stir. :) Have a good day. ~~~~~~~~ JOYce Rymsh 04-05-2001, 04:14 PM Joyce & Texaslady, do you guys have crystal balls or something?? :?: The back, as you both forecast, is indeed "out" again. I worked this morning, and I'm "flat on my back" this afternoon hoping it will ease up because I can't miss work these days! If it's not 1 thing it's 10 others, isn't it? Rebecca, congrats on the .4 loss!!! Joyce, I'm glad you are enjoying your company! I'll bet the Gene Autry museum will be fun- I loved him when I was grwing up. Texaslady, finally it sounds like our weather will be nicer than yours! Our weekend is supposed to b beautiful- thanks to a front from Texas, they say! :D Sunshine and highs in the 70's, close to 80 by Sunday. Now if I can just get this back to cooperate so I can enjoy it!! Hi to Jan,Janet, 2 Nancies, Liz, Janet, Kendra, Saara and anyone I may have forgotten! Have a good weekend, everyone! Carol Kudzu 04-05-2001, 05:56 PM Hi y'all...sorry to be away so long, but things have been hectic here. I've started a post everyday at work, but never got to finish and I've intended to post at night but haven't even turned the computer on at home. There have been a flurry of activities relating to graduation next month, and we have been busy making sure that all college forms are ready. Krysten is being awarded several scholarships and they all have forms and deadlines to adhere to. I feel like my head is spinning :spin: sometimes trying to remember everything. I'm going to miss all of these activities and excitement when DD starts college. I know that she will still need me, but I know that it's going to be different. She had her senior prom last Saturday and we had so much fun getting ready for that. Her dress last year was fully beaded and fitted, but the one this year was very different. She calls it her "Cinderella" dress. She had even bought glitter to wear in her hair and she and our hairdresser had so much fun "playing." Rita (our hairdresser) is a friend of mine, and she had glitter all over her when she got through. All the glitter reminded me of that time Krysten had flag/guard competition in Memphis and I had glitter in my car for days and days from DD and all her friends. I didn't think I would ever get it all out. Her boyfriend's prom is next week (he goes to a different school), so we get to play dress-up one more time. My mother and I even got invited out to eat with them and their friends before the prom last weekend. Of course, my mother ended up treating everyone so there may have been another motive for that invitation. :s: Everything is going great on the weight-loss front. This was my third week back OP, and I had lost 9 pounds as of Monday. I have slipped a little this week, so I will probably show a gain next week. I also have a party to go to Friday night, and there will be lots of tempting food there. I'll just have to plan ahead and leave plenty of points for that night. Carol, I am so sorry that your back is out again. Rest this weekend and take care of yourself. I know that your DD has your precious grandson to take care of, but can she come over and lend a hand? You've got to get well so that we can paint the town when I fly up there. We are both such wild women! Liz, that orienteering weekend sounded like so much fun. I love things like that, but had never heard of that before. I admire you for planning a trip to England on your own. I haven't even mastered the art of dining out by myself. Of course, I'm ONLY 46, so maybe I will be braver by the time I grow up! :D Patti, I have a lowfat cookbook that has some wonderful recipes that you might be interested in...crawfish etoufee (sp?), several creole recipes, etc. The cookbook gives the fiber, calories and fat content so it would be easy to figure out the points. Let me know if you have any favorites that you want me to look up. Rebecca, way to go on your loss...especially when you were expecting a gain. I've given up trying to predict what my body is going to do each week, but sometimes I get a pleasant surprise. It's a great feeling. Speaking of great feelings, it is so great to know that you are so happy lately Saara. I agree that your happiness just jumped out of the computer. It made my day! :) Texaslady, I've seen those gel candles. They will make lovely gifts. You are so creative and talented. I try, but it's a struggle! Jan, have you started your new class yet...or will it start next year? Tell your dad and DH hi for me! JOYce, enjoy your company. It's so nice when whole familes can get together, but I know how difficult it is when everyone is spread out and busy with their own lives. I envy you having your own kiln. I used to do ceramics and loved it, but it got to be a hassle trying to take things back and forth to have them fired. Well, I had better get back to work. It's almost time to go. Yeah!! This has been a long week. Hi to everyone I've missed...Nancy, Nancy, Kendra...have I missed anyone else?? We have had beautiful weather this week, but it is supposed to rain this weekend. We did have bad storms last night and parts of the state flooded after getting up to 12 inches in just a few hours. I got a little apprehensive because the sky had that same look yesterday that it did on the day of the tornado. This is our bad time for tornadoes and I think I will have a new found respect for them this year. Have a great Friday! Janet (Kudzu) texaslady 04-06-2001, 12:32 PM Morning, everyone. IT'S FRIDAY!!!! :D Carol - Uh-oh! I was afraid of that! No crystal ball here but I know you have been working extra hours and stressing too! I think the combination is probably what has gotten you down. I hope with some rest you will be bouncing around again soon. Janet - Proms are SUCH FUN! Lucky you get to do two of them - and the dress gets worn one more time! We had a lot of fun during my dd's prom, too. Its kind of a rehearsal for a wedding (prom x 20!). But my dd & her date would have dropped dead before they would have invited me along for dinner - even if I WAS paying! Congrats on the scale loss too! That's great news. Joyce - Guess Melissa's prom should be coming up soon, too, right? Glad you are having fun at your family reunion. How long since you were all together last? Patti - You have a senior, too! Is he going to prom? If so, is everything ready? I guess its not as big a deal for a son as a daughter - tho there is still the tux thing (at least the guys here wear tuxes for prom but guess it could be different elsewhere). Jan - Where are you? Still busy with the move? Not too many big plans for the week-end. Guess dd and I will go furniture shopping. Her favorite furniture store is going out of business (and NOT because she didn't support it over the past 5 years!) and she is hoping to find some good bargains for the new house. And the spending begins................ They are under contract for the house and have had an inspection done. They are waiting to see if the builder will fix the glitches. I don't think that will be a problem, but you never know until its done! Closing is currently set for May 1 - it could be a few days later if the loan paperwork isn't complete by then. Hope you all have a great week-end! Take care. NJNancy 04-07-2001, 07:46 AM Hi everyone, No, I did not fall off the face of the earth. I was just busy... like everyone else here on the board! I had birthday party part 2 for the family. The food was easy: baked ziti and chicken the day and night before. Family carried in salads. But my girls wanted a complete birthday celebration all over again, complete with streamer decorations and a cake cut and decorated like a butterfly. It was wonderful, but it sure added to my list of things to do. And of course, the money gifts they received were burning a hole in their pockets, so we just HAD to go shopping!! Actually they thought long and hard on what they wanted. But it got stretched to two separate days of shopping. One reason being the CD they wanted was not to be released for 3 more days! Willie Nelson's song "On the Road Again" sure is a mother's theme song!! They will be making their First Communion on May 12 and my sister and I decided to make their veils from scratch, which ended up being easy, especially because dear sister has a serger and is such a creative talent!! But it was still running around. But we sure had fun the four of us, my sister and I plus my two girls, when we had the girls try on their complete outfit! Lots of giggles. It made me think of proms and weddings to come! Fun to fuss and dress up. And of course I remind the girls of the solemnity of the sacrament and service. But like any 8 year old, my older daughter is concentrating on the cash gifts she hopes to receive!!! Speaking of cash... Walmart is a lifesaver. That's where I got the dresses... They look like Victorian tea dresses: gorgeous lace with sheen, drop waist, shawl collar. And only $20!!! Stockings were $3, shoes on sale for $9, slips still fit from last Easter, and the headpieces for $7 of materials. I spent less on two girls than some spend on one! And my girls look wonderful. Thank you Walmart!! It's my favorite store. I even have a favorite cashier who remembers me!! In the meantime, on the WW front, I received my 10 pound ribbon last week!! I back slid a pound and a half this week... oops. My leader blamed it on water retention (which it could have been because I had Now sour cream and onion chips the night before... how dumb, I know better). I also blamed it on cream cheese... oh did I have a hankering for it this week!! I counted the points a couple of times, but...... So I called my gain "cream cheese retention!!" But the craving is past and onward I go!! What a joy it has been reading the posts. I really savored the local stories everyone has been sharing... the power brown outs, the tornados, the humidity, town names, local foods (don't think I've EVER had a crawfish!! lol), floods, driving requirements (gulp... my baby will be getting his permit in November!). Oh, one more big piece of excitment-- I shopped for and ordered a new computer!! It will be the third on our family network. It is a souped up gaming machine for my boys. I am going to pass my 5.5 year old workhorse 200 MHz/Pentium 1 machine to the girls, I'll get the 3 year old 400 MHz/Pentium 2, and the boys are getting the 1200 MHz/Pentium 4 system. It's a screamer of a machine which is what you need for games. The 200 has been fine for Internet and email. But I see it slow down on Word 2000. Also, I am testing out some bookkeeping software. I might start up some part time work at home. The computer is our Spring Break treat. Some folks go on vacation... we buy computers!! We are all excited, especially since the boys will now be able to play two computer games they received at Christmas, but could not play on the slower speed machine!! Christmas in April! We expected it to be delivered next Friday, but I just checked the order status and it is on it's way!!! Could be here as early as Tuesday!! Our weekend will be spent on getting ready. It feels good to post and share with everyone. Sorry if I went on too long. Have a great weekend, everyone.
